Talk about the butterfly effect.
I know everyone has written a review on how good the drama is and how the actors have embodied the roles. However, can we talk about just episode one.
Everything in Yi Jae life would have turned out much better in a sense if he hadn't witnessed that man's death. That one thing was what literally spiraled everything out of place. Because he became traumatised he messed up in the interview.
It was almost like a bad omen. Everything after that kept going wrong. And we can literally see that DEATH was gripping unto Yi Jae since that scene. The dying man's grip on his blazer was soooo strong and felt very ominous to me at least.
So yea, everything after that one encounter with death set up the events that occurred after.
Which had me thinking what if? What if he hadn't encountered death that day? What would've happened? So that was just something I found very very intriguing.

DEATH'S GAME: PART 1
GENRES: Drama, Supernatural
SUMMARY: Caught in a game of punishing resurrection, a man who took his own life tries to find meaning in hanging on.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Pillar demons, citron tea, hundreds of cover letters, finding meaning in the mundane, fated connections, bullies, prison, male models, car chases, MMA, chair-fighting, gut-wrenching regret, hopelessness, redemption, and a dizzying number of A-list celebrities.
HOT TAKE: Episode 4 of this show broke me, hard. Although the plot is simple and a bit repetitive, every single acting performance is stellar. The character connections made with each new story gives the overarching experience real depth and emotion, and I can't wait for the second part coming in 2024.

Alchemy of Souls (Seasons 1 & 2)
Year : 2022 | Country : KR | Nb of episodes: 30
My rate: 9/10
Synopsis :
Set in a fictional country called Daeho that does not exist in history or on maps, it is about the love and growth of young mages as they overcome their twisted fates due to a forbidden magic spell known as the "alchemy of souls", which allows souls to switch bodies.
It follows the story of an elite assassin named Naksu, whose soul is accidentally trapped inside the weak body of Mu Deok—Jang Uk's servant from a powerful and noble mage family in the country. The young master of the Jang Family, Jang Uk, holds a dark secret about his scandalous birth. He wants the formidable assassin to help change his destiny.
Main cast :
Lee Jae Wook as Jang Uk
Jung So Min as Mu Deok
Hwang Min Hyun as Seo Yul
Shin Sung Ho as Go Won
Yoo Joon Sang as Park Jin
Oh Na Ra as Kim Do Ju
Arin as Jin Cho Yeon
Yoo In Soo as Park Dang Gu
Go Youn Jung as Naksu/Cho Yeong/ Jin Bu Yeon
My thoughts on this drama :
I hadn't loved a Korean drama so much in ages. Wow! Everything is so so good in this one. The casting is amazing, for both seasons. Although I understand their choice to switch actresses for the main lead in season two, it still felt a bit jarring at first.
The story is fantastic, and the actors all aced their roles. The season two felt like the opposite to season one (Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow is the subtitle of the season/part 2). It was sometimes a bit hard to follow, but the story is amazing and very satisfying.

A thought just crossed my mind! What if Jang Uk finds out that Buyeon is Naksu only on the last episode of this drama but it's only when he's too late because he finds out who she is when she's on the brink of death as he's holding her close while she takes her final breaths. ☠️
Ooohh the fandom will be in TEARS I say. But it would be (beautifully) devastating. The perfect tragedy of not recognizing that the person you've been longing for has been right in front of you the whole time, but only realizing that when you fucking lose them (again) on the spot. The type of gut-wrenching angst you can't beat.
Tumblr media
(Also, that would be a terrible ending.)

Alchemy of Souls 2, Ep 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Why did they lock up such an incredible priestess? What crime are you guilty of? -...Being alive... ...existing in this world... ...I am guilty of existing in this world when I should not...
Another story is starting now. Both are not aware of sharing the same past nor the feelings, buried in last 3 years...
SCREENSHOTS AT THE BOTTOM!
Daeho has changed in last 3 years. Not only country but most important, people. We won't see the same Danggu, with blond hair, always the sweetest one. Both his hair and personality has changed. He became a head of Songrim after Park Jin step down and took all the blame for what has happened 3 years ago. Seo Yul is not there. He was sent by his uncle to the Seoho Fortress. Meanwhile JangUk is an outlaw. Used by the royals to kill soul shifters. Living alone and fighting with the power of stone inside him. Hated by community as someone who shouldn't exist. He died once.
Then we have Jinyowon family...
After Naksu's death, they were the one who regained Mudeok's body. However, her petrified body couldn't survive. We still don't know how exactly this happened, but Naksu's original body has resurrected with a soul inside. Soul without memory. Jin mother decided it's her BuYeon, daughter which she was looking for for years...
So that was just summary of changes, of course it's many more but I don't want to write a whole book about first episode haha
And yes, there is many to discuss. Let's start with BuYeon. Many were afraid she won't give the justice to the character - but look at that! I love her from the first seconds! She is rebellious, she is manipulative. She doesn't have memory or mage powers but she could see stone in JangUk! And their every encounter was like a blast haha they have this similar energy which I couldn't find in Mudeok. Now, they don't know each other, there is no tense, she is just looking for freedom and he is the best candidate. He is looking for freedom, she can be useful to get rid of the stone.
When mother said about the wedding with Seo, I felt shivers. Does she wants to make Yul a husband? Naksu and Yul? Oh my God! My heart broken straight away because we all know how Yul was and definitely is still in pain.
Crown Prince, my man...I am afraid he is manipulated by JinMu already, maybe not fully but let's hope he won't go to JM side.
Master Lee, everywhere he is, he flips the situation upside down. Having his own script and making sure everything is going according to his plan haha I really enjoy it!
Last scene!
OMG BuYeon is so straight forward haha and when she said "let's go my husband", it sound same as "let's go my pupil" by Mudeok and UK notice that. We could see his face frozen for a second. Also, there was many references to season 1. For ex. BuYeon saying she is the most beautiful: "...I turn heads wherever I go" that was definitely reference to Naksu's "wherever I go, heads are falling down".
And there was few more...
But for now I'll stop, this post is already long and if you reached to this point, thank you! And if you like it, please leave a heart or a comment. I am very open for any discussion!
Have a lovely evening/morning!

Alchemy of Souls. Season 1-2 7/8
Story: 7
Acting: 10
Chemistry: 6-10
Comparable to: Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (kdrama); Ever Night (cdrama)
Oof this is such a hard one to judge. In some aspects I totally love this and other aspects I wanted to throw my remote at my screen. I was more of a season one was ten times better then then season two type of person. For one thing different female leads. Who in their right minds decides to write out Jung So Min and cast someone different! Don’t get me wrong, Go Young Jung is an okay actress, but when you have already shot 20 episodes of a drama with a character and an actress who had an amazing chemistry with the main lead it’s hard to replace it with someone new. Nevertheless that was strike one for me, strike two was the change of pace of everything, it felt draggy and repetitive, the tired old cliche memory loss trope didn’t help either. I did watch season 2 just with the fast forward button, since season one was amazing and I wanted to see how everything would be wrapped up. Was I disappointed slightly, yeah slightly, but overall it was still not bad, season one left a pretty darn good impression.
