In the first three years of the 1930s, Einstein visited the U.S. to teach at the California Institute of Technology, Caltech. During his first visit, this founder of the War Resisters League, counselled young people: "If only two per cent of those assigned to military service [refused to fight], governments would be powerless. They would not dare send such a large number of people to jail" (page 21). Interactions with the Left moved Einstein away from the belief that war resulted from the wiles of aggressive men toward the view that war served the economic interests of the powerful and the rich. In 1932, Einstein told an audience at Caltech: "At a time when we are rich in consumable goods and means of production as in no previous generation before us, a great part of humanity suffers severe want; production and consumption falter to an increasing degree, and confidence in public institutions has sunk as never before. It is not in intelligence that we lack for overcoming evil, but in unselfish, responsible devotion [to] the common weal" (page 21). When the Nazis took power in 1933, Einstein was in the U.S. Unable to return to his home in Germany, the scientist settled in the U.S., at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, for the remainder of his life. The U.S. government's interest in Einstein develops from this time onward and the FBI begins to accumulate evidence to deport Einstein as an "undesirable alien" with close to 2,000 pages of documentation. It was first released in 1983, after being heavily censored, but was subsequently turned over after a request under the Freedom of Information Act by Jerome and the Public Citizen Litigation Group. Einstein knew that he was under surveillance, as he told the Polish Ambassador to the U.S. at a dinner in 1948: "I suppose you must realise by now that the U.S. is no longer a free country, that undoubtedly our conversation is being recorded. This room is wired, and my house is closely watched" (page 93).

Today in history, April 14, 1471: the death of John Neville, First Marquess of Montagu:
"John Neville, 1st Marquess of Montagu KG (c.1431 – 14 April 1471) was, until his final years, a Yorkist leader in the Wars of the Roses, brother of Warwick the Kingmaker and perhaps best known for eliminating Lancastrian resistance in the north of England in the first three years of the reign of King Edward IV. Captured twice, he was released twice.
Following the final crushing of the Lancastrian resistance, Montague's role focussed on diplomacy and peace keeping. In June 1465 he was commissioned to contract marriages "between English and Scottish subjects" as welll as to treat for a perpetual peace with Scotland, as a result of which, Montague returned the captured duke of Albany to Scotland, for which he was paid fifty mark. It was during this time (Hicks has suggested around January 1465) that Montague and Lord Scales were requested by the Duke of Brittany to accompany a force of 3,000 Breton archers supplied by him, for the 'League of the Public Weal' against Louis XI of France. However, due to commitments in the north with Warwick, Montague ended up taking no part in this campaign.
In 1465 Montague received the main grant of the Percy earldom of Northumberland estates, and the following year he was granted the Constableships and honors of Knaresborough and Pontefract castles on 25th March 1466, which Warwick and before him their father, and previously held, and also the castles of Tickhill, Snaith, and Dunstanburgh. This was to repay his arrears in back wages from his Wardenship of the East March, from an indenture of 1st June 1463. On the same day he was made Steward of the duchy of Lancaster (north of the Trent), and it was from the profits of the duchy that his wages were coming from, amounting to approximately £1,000.
The Wardens were the military guardians of the border from the late fourteenth-century, and their salaries made them the highest-paid among Crown officers, but this was inclusive of the cost of raising troops and maintaining defence. This has also been described as controlling ‘private armies raised at the Crown’s expense.’ By the mid-fifteenth century, the Wardenship of the East March was the most important of the two northern marcher lordships. Marcher Wardens were granted the right to recruit by their being ‘explicitly’ exempted from the 1468 Statute of Livery, which restrained- or attempted to restrain- retaining. For Montague, however, was allowed to continue retaining in times of peace as well as war. At this point Humphrey Neville was still on the run, and Montague required troops to be raised on various occasions; in 1467, for example, Beverley sent him troops to deal with Humphrey's resistance.
In 1467, as part of his brother’s plan for a closer relationship with the French, John and Isabelle accompanied Warwick in escorting the French King’s envoys to Canterbury. However, by this time, it was being rumoured that Warwick was moving towards supporting the House of Lancaster, as a result of disatisfaction over the king's marriage to Elizabeth Woodville and his pursuit of an anti-French foreign policy. In 1469, Warwick orgaised Robin of Redesdale's rebellion against Edward IV in Yorkshire and in July that year the king's brother George, Duke of Clarence married Warwick's daughter Isabelle whilst anchored off Calais; this was in direct defiance of the king's own wishes. It seems that Montague, however, reacted strongly agaonst his brother's machinations, and, unlike him, was satisfied with his current position.
On 27 October 1468, Henry Percy, had taken his oath of fealty to the King, and had been released from the Tower. The following year saw the return of Robin of Redesdale and another rebellion on behalf of Warwick. Montague ws forced to come down from the Scottish border to suppress it; this he did, but, one historian has suggested, albeit that he 'allowed the leaders to escape… ensuring that the rebellion could rise again’ at a more opportune moment. Almost immediately, Montague was forced to crush another rebellion, this time lead by a Robin of Holderness, but calling for the return of Percy to the Northumberland earldom. The Redesdale rebels soon reformed into an army big enough to march south and defeat a royal force at the Battle of Edgecote Moor on 26 July 1469. King Edward still accepted that Montagu was uninvolved in his brother’s rebellion, and in the event, Montague was the only Nevile to accompany the king on his journey from the north back to London.
However, it was while Edward was in York that he ordered the rehabilitation of Henry Percy to his family earldom on 27 March 1470. On the same day John was elevated to the Marquisate of Montague, and now outranked his brother- an earl- in the English peerage. Historians have since questioned, however, whether his new title had the gravitas that his previous earldom had had, and have even suggested that the king was 'walking a tightrope' as to whether Montague would actualy accept it or not. To compensate him for the loss of the Percy estates Montague was granted the lands of the dead Earl of Devon, and Montague's son, George was created Duke of Bedford. These were substantial estates, providing an income of at least £600 per annum. Montague was to be the new regional magnate- as he been in the north- to fill an existing power vacuum.
Montague, though, was not happy with the new arrangements, and Kng Edward has been held responsible for turning Montague from a friend to an enemy. Warkworth’s Chronicle describes him as condemning these grants to him as 'a [mag]pyes] nest.' Montagu had been on the Scottish border since at least January 1470. Following unrest in Lincolnshire and the subsequent Lincolnshire rebellion, the king marched from London to crush the rising. This he did at the Battle of Empingham. Following the battle, Edward headed north where he was met by Montague and Northumberland at Doncaster. Warwick and Clarence's involvement in the Lncolnshire uprising had by now been established, and they fled to Calais. Further trouble broke out in the summer of 1470 in the north, with friends and relatives of Warwick in open rebellipon. The new earl of Northumberland was unable to put down these risings, so the king, once again marched north to deal with it personally. Modern historians generally consider that these rebellions were a deliberate trap, instigated by Warwick and Clarence from Calais. On 24 June 1470 the Wardenship of the East March was stripped from Montagu and given to Percy. Edawrd was still in the north with Percy when he received word that the Warwick and Clarence had landed landed in Dartmouth.
The king awaited Montague at Doncaster, who was in the north raising a substantial force in Edward's name. Edward waited; but on 29 September 1470, marching to the King, Montague declared for Warwick. His last-minute, surprise defection from the king has been called'decisive.' The king was trapped; disbanding his army, and with a few followers, he escaped to King's Lynn, sailing for Burgundy on 24 October.
On 3 October, with Edward IV in exile, [[Henry Vi was released from the Tower and returned to the throne by Warwick. Almost immediately, Montague was granted the wardship of the executed earl of Worcester's heir and estates, as well as of the young Lord Clifford. He was reappointed to the Wardenship of the East March, with its salary, on 22 October 1470.
However, Montagu did not profit from the new regime as he probably expected to. He did not regain the earldom of Northumberland. Further, he lost some of the Courtney lands that had come with his Marquisate to the newly returned earl of Devon. Montague had no active role in government, and does not seem to have sat in Council, although he was appointed Chamberlain to the King’s Household. Although he was confirmed in command of the new King’s forces in the north and in possession of the manor of Wressle on 21 March 1471, he did not regain any other Percy estates. Indeed, it has been suggested that his loyalty might still have been suspect by the newly-arrived Lancastrians: having been summoned to the November 1470 parliament, Polydor Virgil states that he had to apologise there for his prior support of Edward. Montague even had to pay cash for the king's pardon. which he only received after making a lengthy speech, declaring that he had only remained faithful to Edward out of fear.
Montague, having responsibility for the defence of the north, received various commissions of array, which reflected the government's knowledge that King Edward was equipping a Burgundian-backed fleet in order to re-invade. Montague was to raise men from all across the north. On 14 March 1471, King Edward landed at Ravenspur, on the coast of Yorkshire; he had intended to land in East Anglia, but this had been established as being unsafe. Montague, it has been suggested, could have 'snuffed out' Edward's army almost immediately had he moved fast enough. Montague was in Pontefract Castle as Edward passed by (where even his castle bailiff deserted him for the returning king, taking the castle's funds with him). Montague's army, composed of local militias, was probably in the region of several thousand men, between 6,000 and 7,000,and increased as he trailed Edward south. Montague arrived at Coventry, where the earl of Warwick was camped, in early April 1471; this was probably the day after Clarence had defected back to his brother Edward, and taken his army with him.
By 12 April 1471, Montagu, with his brother Warwick and the duke of Exeter, the earl of Essex, and Viscount Beaumont were approaching London with their army.
Edward, having arrived in London on 11 April and been reunited with his queen, met Montague and Warwick a few miles north of london, outside the village of Barnet. It is possible that he commanded a smaller army, perhaps of only 9,000 men, and probably no more than 14,000. The anonymous author of the pro-Yorkist Historie of the Arrivall of Edward IV in England puts Warwick's and Montague's army at around
The battle was a 'confused affair' and fought in fog. It has been suggested that it was Montagu who persuaded Warwick to fight on foot at Barnet, leaving the horses tethered at the rear, in order to demonstrate their commitment to the cause by taking the same risks as the common soldier. Montagu probably controlled the centre battle of Warwick’s army, facing Edward’s own section, on the Great North Road from Barnet to St. Albans. Warkworth’s Chronicle states that Warwick had an army of 20,000 men and that the battle beginning at 0400, lasted until ten o’clock that morning. Contemporaries have favourably described Montague's martial skill at Barnet. Philippe de Commines called him as 'a very courageous knight,' and the Burgundian observer Jean de Waurin wrote that, in thick of the fighting, Montagu was 'cutting off arms and heads like a hero of romance.'
The earl of Oxford, commanding the right wing of the Neville army, broke the opposing Yorkist line, under William, Lord Hastings, early in the battle. Oxford's men proceeded to chase the fleeing soldiers, and ended up looting away from the battlefield. Oxford managed to regroup his men, but, returning to the battlefield, as James Ross has put it,'disaster struck.' In the time him and his force had been absent, the line of battle had shifted almost ninety degrees, so instead of returning to attack Edward's rear, he crashed into Montagu's section. The fog prevented identification, and Oxford's men fought with Montague's. Montague may, one chronicler suggests, have mistakenly seen Oxford's 'Streaming star' banner as the king's 'Sunne in splendour,' and thus believe tht the earl had gone over to York. Recently though, one historian has pointed out that, in fact, Oxford had never previously used such a cognizance, and it was more prosaically just a case of men confused by fog.
At some point, possibly around this time, Montague was killed; he was certainly dead before his brother. The Arrivall chronicler states this occurred 'in plain battle,' and in the thick of the fighting, rather than in the rout that later followed.
The bodies of Warwick and Montagu were laid out ‘on the morrow after’ and ‘openly shewed and naked’ in St. Paul’s, to prevent rumour starting that they had in fact survived the battle; Warkworth too said that the King personally directed this, and arraged for the corpses 'to be put in a cart… to be laid in the church of Paul’s, on the pavement, that every man might see them; and so they lay for three or four days' before granting permission to their brother George for their burial at Bisham Priory."

Someone has to say it.
It’s gotten to the point of ridiculousness to be honest, and now someone needs to just come out in public and put the words on the table and flip the sand timer over.
The Flyers need a change.
And I’m not just talking about a nominal change like calling up the speedy Danick Martel to add a little juice to the offense, I mean something big. Something impactful. Something that would grab headlines.
It could be a big trade, but with the roster already one of the youngest in the NHL, that wouldn’t make much sense.
So, maybe the organization needs to look elsewhere. Maybe it needs to look at the coach.
And I know I’m not the only one who thinks this way.
Even the players are starting to subtly suggest that they are in a stagnant pattern of systemic hell that is stunting growth of such a young team rather than fostering it.
Brian Elliott has been around the sport for a long time, so when he, as one of the team’s elder statesmen says something that can be interpreted as a warning shot across the coach’s bow, then maybe someone higher up needs to take notice.
So here, Ron Hextall, I will serve up his comment for you on a platter to do with it as you will:
“It’s the definition of insanity when you keep doing the same thing over and over again. We’ve got to change some things and we’ve got to talk about it, because these are big points and they can come back and hurt us.”
Now, he said that in response to a question about poor play in overtime – which bit the Flyers in the back side again yesterday for their seventh straight loss, but Elliott’s feelings – which are shared by others in the room by the way – aren’t just specific to overtime.
You don’t lose seven straight games because of one repeated problem in overtime. The problem runs far deeper than that.
Although there is the coach trying to put a happy spin on the same recurring problems after every loss.
“I think it’s seven out of our last 10 that we’ve gotten at least a point,” Dave Hakstol said. “Five of those are OT or shootout losses. So again today it was a close hockey game all the way through.”
Did this guy seriously just try to spin a seven game losing streak into the positive of garnering points in seven of the last 10 games?
I jokingly said this BEFORE THE FLYERS EVEN LOST YESTERDAY:
So, if the Flyers lose this one, and make it seven straight, I wonder if Hakstol will remind us they have earned points in four-of-five?
— AntSanPhilly (@AntSanPhilly) November 24, 2017
And then he did. I couldn’t believe it.
I can’t believe he did it… but he did. Hakstol said they have points in 7 of 10. He’s Nero. He really is.
— AntSanPhilly (@AntSanPhilly) November 25, 2017
And why, even though it’s factually correct, can you not go to this well coach? I’ll give you a list after the jump:
OK coach. Here’s why that “points in 7 of 10” doesn’t fly with anyone:
Your team is in last place in the Metropolitan Division.
You have played 23 games and have only won consecutive games once.
You have blown a two-goal lead four times this season.
You’ve been shutout five times this season.
You’ve only won eight games. Only two teams have less – Buffalo and Arizona. and the Coyotes beat you head-to-head, for what it’s worth.
The Power Play is mediocre – ranking in the bottom half of the league at 18.9% (17th)
The Penalty Kill is dreadful – it’s still 28th in the league, but the percentage went down again yesterday to 74.7%.
Your top line excluded, the other skaters on your team have combined to only score 35 goals in 23 games.
Maybe Hakstol recognizes it himself and is trying to go into spin control mode as an effort to save his own hide – which is why he says ridiculous things like they have seven points in the last 10 games.
But even if that’s the case, it’s only window dressing because he hasn’t been able to solve the real problem.
So what’s the real problem?
The problem is this team is not well-coached for the NHL game. There are far too many odd-man rushes – Wayne Simmonds lamented that following the loss to Vancouver on Tuesday. And he wasn’t just talking about 2-on-1s… he went so far as to say there are too many 4-on-3s.
That means that it’s the system that is allowing forwards to get caught deep. It’s a system where defensemen don’t know the right time to pinch. It’s a system where forwards don’t have the time necessary to get back and help.
It’s a system that is broken.
All the flash and speed the Flyers showed with a hot start is now missing. Hakstol was a one-trick pony this season. He had a great idea to start the season, it worked for awhile, but then the league caught on to what the Flyers were doing and adjusted… and the Flyers haven’t adjusted back.
Yeah, they’re still getting their shots, so their advanced stats don’t look terrible, but the problem is, the Flyers are too small and trying to play a possession-oriented game.
This is a two-fold issue. This one falls on the coach for not instituting a system that befits his roster but it also falls on the General Manager for putting together a team that is too small (they are the third-smallest team in the NHL).
This isn’t asking for a return to the old days when they were big, plodding, bruising players – that doesn’t work in today’s NHL at all.
But, another of Simmonds’ laments has been that guys aren’t getting in front of the net. They aren’t going into the greasy areas to get loose pucks and score goals. Heck, most goals are scored in and around the net. Aside from Simmonds and Sean Couturier, who’s going there? Nobody.
Some of that might be on the players for an unwillingness to go there, but the rest of it is on the coach. He has to motivate and instruct his players to get there.
And if he is, and they aren’t listening, then it might be time for a different voice.
Ask yourself, have young players progressed at all under Hakstol’s guidance?
Shayne Gostisbehere has taken a step backward. Travis Konecny can’t seem to break through. Nolan Patrick looks a little lost (although his sample size is small). Travis Sanheim shows flashes, but also looks uncertain at times. Jordan Weal has been a disappointment. I can go on and on.
It’s likely that whatever message he’s touting is not getting through.
Look, the Flyers are competitive. They may have lost 15 of 23 games this season, but with the exception of a couple, they could have just as easily won about a dozen of their losses.
So, they aren’t the worst team in the NHL.
But they are a team that looks the same year-after-year under Hakstol. And while GMs are usually given a longer window than three years to shape a team, coaches are not.
NHL coaches have been fired for a lot less than the product we are seeing on the ice from the Flyers right now, who haven’t lost this many games in a row since 2007-08.
And yes, there is an argument to be made that these Flyers are rebuilding and patience should be had much like it was for the 76ers.
But there was no talk of rebuild here. Hextall has said that he has thought he had a playoff team before each of the past three seasons.
If he had come out and said, “Hey, we’re rebuilding and this is going to take time,” we’d be having a different conversation right now.
But his expectation was for better. And it’s just not happening.
A change is needed. Soon.

When you follow sports long enough, you learn that you always have to expect the unexpected.
Sometimes a game will change thanks to something that you swear you’ve never seen before.
None of that was the case for the Flyers on the ice last night.
Nope. Things were pretty much just what we’ve seen before:
Lots of shots, not enough goals, mistakes, untimely penalties, bad goaltending and a fifth straight loss, this time 5-2 to the Vancouver Canucks.
But, that doesn’t mean there wasn’t something unexpected that took place off the ice.
It wasn’t from the players, who all were sounding the same frustrated tone you would expect. No one kicking over tables, or spitting fire and brimstone at the state of the team.
So as we trudged down the long hall to the coach’s press conference area, which on most nights feels like walking the Green Mile since we are usually on our way to an interview death sentence, the premise of this takeaways piece was starting to formulate.
This team is broken. Their failures are systemic. It needs a new look. A change of some sort, personnel-wise or otherwise. This team plays like shampoo directions – lather, rinse, repeat.
But then it happened, without warning, and it came so far out of left field that it put aside all preconceived notions about how Tuesday’s loss to Vancouver was going to be forever chronicled.
Dave Hakstol provided frank and accurate insight.
For once, the coach didn’t come across as smug, or as bothered by the questions being fired at him. Instead, he told you what was happening. What was wrong. He identified mistakes being made. He called out his goaltender. He questioned his own coaching decision. He was as as blunt and honest as I’ve ever seen him.
Does this mean he’s turned over a new leaf? That we can expect a change from stubborn stoicism to something more Ken Hitchcockian (more on him later by the way)?
No.
But we want to celebrate this version of Dave Hakstol so much that we’re going to turn over these takeaways to him.
That’s right. Today’s takeaways are brought to you by Dave Hakstol (as well as Cozzi Jewelers).
Take it away, Dave!
1) “Tonight it’s not about the offense side of the game it’s about the hardness without the puck.”
Amen Brother Hak! Preach to the congregation!
It’s easy to sit back and watch a game of hockey, track scoring plays, chances, and puck possession. What’s not as easy to track, and sometimes not even easy to see – especially if you watch the game on TV – is what guys do when they don’t have the puck. And that’s where a lot of fault lies with the Flyers.
It’s not going hard to the net and taking away the goalie’s eyes, knowing you run the the risk of getting hit with a shot or get a stick to the small of the back. Just ask Wayne Simmonds.
“We got to get in front of the goalie,” he said. “If the goalie sees it, he’s going to stop it. You got to battle for second and third opportunities. That’s how you score in this league. You take one shot the goalie is going to see it and stop it. I take a stick in the back every power play. If I’m going to be there, I have to be willing to take physical abuse. That’s the way it is.”
To the heat map:
Look where the Flyers were shooting from and look where the Canucks were shooting from. Big difference eh?
But it’s not just in front of the net either. The Flyers lose a lot of board battles on 50/50 pucks. That’s more about determination than anything else. That’s the old “look yourself in the mirror” type play.
The Flyers need to play with an edge sometimes. They used to always play with an edge, but never had the team speed to keep up with the opposition. Now they have decent speed, but no edge. Take Simmonds out of the mix, and who’s the edgiest player in the lineup? It was Radko Gudas, but he’s out of action for three weeks after being over-suspended. Maybe the next guy is Robert Hagg? And he’s as level-headed as they come.
And don’t confuse an edge with intensity. The Flyers have a lot of intense players, from the Captain on down, but they don’t play with any physicality and it’s noticeable. And when it’s this noticeable, they are an easy team to play against.
2) “Our biggest issue is that we give up too many easy opportunities…”
Shall I show them some examples Dave?
There’s this:
#GottaSeeIt: Daniel Sedin gets a breakaway and shows off his 37 year old hands! http://pic.twitter.com/5PQlwuwOy6
— Sportsnet (@Sportsnet) November 22, 2017
and this:
Jordan Weal's turnover leads to a Boeser goal. http://pic.twitter.com/l5mKDBOOwg
— Sons of Penn (@SonsofPenn) November 22, 2017
On the first goal, Brandon Manning and Shayne Gostisbehere have a miscommunication and both are out of position which allows Daniel Sedin to have his breakaway.
Frankly, that Ghost Bear-Man Dog was a bad pairing of half-animal nicknamed defensemen all night.
On the second goal, yeah, Weal turned it over, but the mistake here is both defensemen changing at the same time. You just can’t do that, right Hak?
“Obviously you just have to have one D to get the change you can’t have two guys going,” Hakstol said. “That is just the reality of it. So yeah, if we get the puck deep it doesn’t matter as a group of D back there you just have to have one guy come and make a smart line change there.”
Whether that was on Travis Sanheim or Mark Alt is not certain as you can see by the video they both went at the same time, but it appears the Flyers are going to put it on Alt.
Alt was carrying his own equipment out the door after the game as he heads back to the Lehigh Valley. Sam Morin has been recalled and will likely make his season debut tonight against the Islanders.
But it’s not even about individuals, these struggles are team-related and need to be addressed.
“These are just bad judgement I guess,” Simmonds said. “If a D is pinching the forwards have to be back and we have to be back for our D to pinch, so it’s bad judgment.”
3) “Somewhere, fairly or unfairly we need a save from our goaltender.”
I already miss the days when the hoi polloi of Flyers Twitter were screaming for Michal Neuvirth to start regularly for the Flyers.
Michal Neuvirth has had some good games this year. And he’s had some terrible games this year. While I wouldn’t count last night as terrible, it certainly was on that side of the sliding scale.
Look, the Flyers make so many mistakes that they put a lot of pressure on their goalies. But hockey is a game of mistakes and a lot of times goalies need to erase those mistakes with a save. Some of those chances were tough for Neuvirth last night… but he’s got to make a save from time to time. Hakstol is right.
“I wasn’t as good as I need to be, so the coach made a change,” Neuvirth said.
But, before that he said this:
“It’s difficult not skating and having three days off over the weekend and only having one practice. It’s difficult, but I need to be better.”
He was sort of hinting the time off is what caused him to not be sharp, wasn’t he? Looking for an excuse, wasn’t he?
“That one was on me,” Hakstol said about waiting too long to pull Neuvirth. “I should have done that after the third goal to give our team the best opportunity. Once it gets to four it’s tough to get out of that hole. Our guys tried in the third period but I think the change after three would have been, maybe would have been the spark that our team would have needed. Hindsight is 20/20.”
I’m betting Neuvirth doesn’t get a start for a bit here….
4) “We have to put the work ethic, the preparation and the togetherness back into our game.”
Hakstol actually said this twice – which means it’s important enough to him that he notices it’s missing.
But really, let’s break down what he’s saying:
The team is lacking work ethic – that’s an indictment of the highest order. It’s suggesting they aren’t playing hard enough. It’s a suggestion that the players are more apt to be passengers on a bus that nobody seems to be driving. That’s pretty damning.
The team is lacking preparation – that’s on nobody but the coaching staff. Hakstol needs to get his own house in order. If a team isn’t prepared, then it’s all on his shoulders.
The team is lacking togetherness – When guys are going rogue in hockey and not pulling on the same rope, that’s a major issue. Teams that aren’t buying in to each other don’t succeed.
The fact that Hakstol said this twice is the most damning thing from an ugly game. Usually when these are issues in sports, major changes are made. I’m starting to wonder if Ron Hextall is doing his best Nero impression and simply fiddling while Rome is burning.
Thanks for all the insight tonight Hak. It looks good on you.
5) Loose pucks
Matt Read cleared waivers and was sent back to the Phantoms. Replacing him is Danick Martel, who was the Phantoms leading scorer. Unlike Read though, I don’t expect Martel to be sitting in the press box at games. He’ll likely make his NHL debut tonight in Brooklyn.
Ivan Provorov and Jake Voracek scored the goals. That means with the exception of the top line, Flyers forwards have just one goal in the past six games.
Brock Boeser is a heck of a player for Vancouver. Hakstol recruited him to North Dakota, but never had a chance to coach him. So, the Flyers coach does have an eye for young talent.
My favorite story of the day was this gem from Dallas Stars coach Ken Hitchcock. It’s just one small example as to why I tell people all the time that Hitch was my favorite coach to cover in my nearly 20 years being around this sport. He’s blunt. He’s honest. and sees through all the bull crap the league tries to submit the public too.
