i think get why this scene was cut, iirc the episode its in was pretty packed as it was. but its super interesting that this is almost where they went with layla?? still i think the show's short span benefited overall by having her be more easily accepting of marc's DID and less uhhhh. marlene

BUT this is reason 1927482 of why i think season one couldve used a couple more episodes!!! the interaction itself here is really raw i liked it alot. now that i think about it i super wish marc and layla went and beefed it about why he hid his DID. cos imo scenes like this are really way more encompassing of moon knight's overall themes than others that we got

plus if layla started out like That and then had a full proper character arc i would probably love her that much more!!! that being said i also think i'd end up fighting alot more of her haters on reddit so maybe this is for the better

the interactions between Marc/Layla really hit different for me when I watch them now after having been married (and mentally ill) for a while.

i love steven and I love jake, but I understand marc. it's such a paradoxical feeling: you're deep in love with the person you trust most in the world. you've made vows to each other. you're a team, a well-oiled machine. and yet you're deeply afraid that your spouse will one day decide you were not what they signed up for because of mental illness. it's a mess of trauma, and shame, stigma, and fear of abandonment. you feel guilty because you know that you shouldn't feel this way. your spouse is safe. but you're still waiting for the other shoe to drop.

there are plot reasons why marc ran away from layla, of course. khonshu supposedly wanting her as his avatar and all that. but it also reads as a maladaptive coping mechanism to me. he was having trouble controlling his switches. maybe he was afraid that Layla finding out about steven would be the other shoe dropping. marc ran to avoid the rejection and abandonment he felt was inevitable. that's the trauma brain in charge. yet he still aches for layla.
