You angrily erase the pencil lines, the bits of rubber flying across your desk as you brush them away, ignoring the way your paper frays under the constant friction. You tilt your head like a bird, studying the pose of the man in your drawing. Maybe it’s the hands that are throwing you off, they look just slightly too small, but no, you’ve redrawn them four times and they still look the same. It isn’t the eyes either, you tried those too. You stand to get a better perspective of the drawing and sigh. Your headphones rest easily over your head, steadily feeding your ears your current favourite song. You hum along, letting your body sway a little to the beat as you reach across your desk for your inking pens.
The clock on the wall reads 3:47 AM, but there’s no way that’s right, because you certainly haven’t been sitting and working for that long...but the last of the tea in the bottom of your mug as long gone cold, and your back aches from hunching over your sketchpad. You sit back in your chair, and reach over your head to stretch your arms and yawn. One last look at the drawing makes you close the book, finished for the night. You’ll work on it tomorrow - after all, here at the sanctum, you have all the time in the world.
You pull your headphones off and put them down with your phone on the desk, next to some small succulents. A cool, fresh breeze blows in from the open window, where there’s the last embers of a stick of incense wafting the smell of lemongrass into your room. The gentle ringing of windchimes somewhere in the tree outside fills your ears as you change yourself into more comfortable clothes for bed.
It’s then you sense something, a presence, and you look at the doorway to see a light creeping in from underneath. You freeze, and the floorboard outside your room creaks, before a gentle tapping sounds on the wood. That could only be one person.
Intuition wins as you open your door to meet the familiar eyes of the sorcerer you’ve come to know and love.
“Stephen,” you whisper, and step aside to let him inside. He accepts, gracefully sweeping past you in a long, dark robe that covers his sleeping clothes. He’s holding a candle holder with a long wicked candle on it, and you laugh quietly, trying not to wake any of the sleeping students up who share the sanctum. “You look like Ebenezer Scrooge,” you tell him, and he laughs along with you, protecting the flame from his breath.
“I came to check on you.” He admits with kind eyes. “Why are you still up?”
“Why are you still up?” You counter, though you know very well why. It’s practically a sixth sense to him - being able to tell when you’re awake at erratic hours. You’re convinced it’s some sort of spell, but he swears up and down it’s plain intuition.
Stephen switches the holder between hands as his fingers are shaking lightly. “I feel your restlessness through the walls.” He moves to reach around you, and places the candle down on your table. He then takes your hands in his. “Come stay with me tonight.”
You rub your thumbs along the surgery scars on his fingers, looking at your intertwined digits. His hands are cold, but it doesn’t seem to bother him. The offer is a sweet one - and he means so well. What's lovely about living at the sanctum with Stephen is the independence he gives you. While you and him are officially together, you have your own room, and it’s clear that you’re welcome to spend as much time in his space as your own. Having that place to yourself is nice when you want to spend some time alone, whether it’s drawing, sleeping, reading, or listening to your music. But it’s always wonderful to return to Stephen’s bed.
“Sure,” you offer him a warm smile and pick the candle up for him. Your other hand rests in the crook of his elbow, and the two of you exit the room and stroll down the corridor, carefully toeing the creaking wood floors. Up a flight of stairs is Stephen’s room, which is familiar and smells just like him; the room smells like warmth.
You let him go as he blows out the candle and returns it to its place on the shelf, and you move across the room to the large bed. There’s plants hanging from the ceiling (which were placed there for your benefit), and stacks of books that litter the floor and the desk. You spot his Eye of Agamotto hanging from the bedpost on his side, and while he fiddles with some papers at his desk that had fallen to the floor, you scoop up the necklace and run your fingers along its intricate designs as you wait for him in bed.
Stephen gives up on his disorganized notes, mumbling something about it being a tomorrow project, and pads over to you. He watches you intently as he shrugs off his robe, revealing a plain set of gray tunic and pants underneath. Plain as it may be, he looks so handsome, the gray on his temples shining in the dim light and a bit of hair falling into his eyes, and the divet at the nape of his throat peeking out from his top. You climb on your knees and inch forward on the bed until you’re face to face with the sorcerer, placing the necklace around his neck before taking his hands in yours again.
You can’t stop smiling, and Stephen gives you an amused smile. “What?”
“I love you,” you remind him, and you release one hand to bring a palm to his face.
“I love you too,” he whispers, before bringing his lips to yours in a soft kiss, the faint taste of his toothpaste on his breath. He pulls away to mumble your name, before pressing his forehead to yours. “But you need to start getting to bed at a reasonable time. Do you have any idea how bad that is for your health? You can-”
“You’re a surgeon, and a magician, not a..a..” You interrupt, but the word you’re looking for escapes your mouth. “A sleep doctor!”
“A somnologist?” He asks, a smirk on his lips and you playfully smack his chest before falling back into the pillows, with Stephen not far behind. He lays down and you snuggle up against him, tangling your legs with his and pulling the blanket over the two of you.
You’re quiet for a few minutes before you chuckle quietly. “I’ll start going to bed earlier, I promise.” He doesn't respond and you tilt your head upwards. “Stephen?’
When he still doesn’t you prop yourself on your elbow to get a look at his face and find him already fast asleep. You’re about to scold him before you catch his clock on his bedside table, and it’s past 4:00. Quietly, you squirm back into his hold and rest your head against his chest, bringing one hand up to play with the Eye again. Tomorrow, you decide, you will sleep in and let Stephen study and train, and when you wake up, you will make tea and lunch for the two of you so you can picnic in the back field, under the blossom tree and in view of the mountain range. Under the sun, with the person you love and cherish.
Your thoughts stay drifting upon the sea of promise and joy that will come tomorrow as you slowly fall into slumber, safe in the arms of the powerful sorcerer you call home.

OC List
I've been meaning to get a list & summary of my ocs for a while--because it's hard to do WIP/ Oc asks when no one knows anything about my characters--and I want to share some of my babies.
Note: I'll be keeping descriptions short as possible, so this post isn't the length of a novel 😂. My Ocs will be divided up by my two current WIPs: The Healer's Chalice, and Forged in Fire. Although I won't list all my ocs; it would take too long, and most aren't all that developed just yet.
Most information about Forged in Fire will be on my side blog (@vyrianathehalfling) since it's a Skyrim fic.
The Healer's Chalice | Urban Fantasy
Brief summary: Alia Thorne discovers that she has mystical powers and goes to Briar Academy, a safe haven for her to discover and hone her abilities. But she's soon to learn that this arcane world isn't as perfect as it seems; something dark is awakening, and Alia must learn to trust in her friends and in herself to fight it. (More about it here)
Current tag list: @maxgraybooks, @ally-thorne, @cawolters, @nobeerreviews, @albatris, @rainbow-writers, @embarrassingwriter, @creativebloon. (I haven't posted WIP stuff for a while, so let me know if you want to be added/ removed from the list :D)
Characters
Alia Thorne - 14-19. She and her twin, Eliza, were raised by their mother in the suburbs of Seattle until a house fire* leaves their mother in a coma. Alia and Eliza are left to the foster system, and eventually the two get separated; at 13, Alia comes into the care of Angela Parks**, a Seattle police officer. (Some more info here)
*It only appeared as a house fire, but Alia later learns that her abilities--or the world she's connected to--had something to do with it.
**Angela's last name is still in the works
--
Eliza Thorne - 14-19. I'm still working out some of the specifics, but sometime after she is taken into the care of their aunt Katherine. She goes to attend Briar Academy as well, having a similar aptitude for the arcane, and both her and Alia work together to find a way to heal their mother.
--
Max Hunter* - 15-20. Roughly a year older than Alia, and though they both start out as rivals, they become fast friends. Max lives with their grandmother in the Seattle area, enjoys ballet and throwing knives, and is low-key the Mother Hen of their friends at BA.
*Max is nonbinary, and I haven't written enough to be certain on Max's prefered pronouns. So I'll do they/them for now...

Brief summary: In the years after her mother's murder, Vyri has built a quiet life for herself as a blacksmith in the hold capital of Whiterun. But an assassin draws her out of her sanctuary--and into the grasp of the infamous Thalmor*. Vyri manages to escape, yet finds herself caught up between the Empire, the Stormcloaks, and--Dragons?
Reaching the Riften Ratways just got all the more difficult.
No current tag list
(*Vyri's mother, Ruby, was a former member of the Blades, and was under their thumb as a political asset. Although they are aware her mother is dead -- slight spoiler -- they act unawares, trying to manipulate Vyri.)
Characters
Vyriana "Vyri" Oakenfire - 19. Born in Markarth, raised in the Imperial City until her mother was murdered. After escaping the Thalmor, and somehow finding herself named Dragonborn, Vyri heads for Riften to hide away in the Ratways--but with little coin, she has little choice but to do jobs for the Thieves Guild in return. Later she learns that her sister Amirah has gone missing after a vampire attack--somehow becoming witness to two prophecys and a treachurous Guild Master (not necessarily in that order). And, perhaps, romance.
--
Amirah Taviri - 23. Amirah was born and raised in a small cottage near Whiterun; her mother a healer & her father a blacksmith. She and her family take in Vyri after she comes to Skyrim, and the two become as close as sisters. Amirah attends the College of Winterhold, but joins the Vigilants of Stendarr* after her parents die in a vampire attack.
Amirah is later captured by vampires. (Enter the Dawnguard questline.)
*She doesn't learn of Isran/ Dawnguard until later, otherwise she would have joined
--
Niran Uulaila - 18. Niran was born and raised in the Imperial City. She's eventually blackmailed by the Thalmor to track down Vyriana (a childhood friend) and lure her into a trap. After (briefly) aiding Vyri, Niran goes into hiding as well, and joins the Dark Brotherhood.
--
Ezebewe "Ez" - 21. He was born on a farm in Falkreath, where he lives until a werewolf kills his sister Lavinia. After his revenge - and becoming a Champion of Hircine - Ez seeks out the Companions, the most honorable of warriors he knows of.

Author Ask Game
I was tagged by @spell-cleaver, so here we go!
Author name: shadowsong26, or shadowsong26x. Or just shadowsong, but on my sites/whatever I have some part of the number.
Fandoms you write for: At the moment, primarily Star Wars (as well as some original stuff), but I’m trying to get back into some of my BSG fic. Apart from those two, my prior main fandoms that I did a lot of writing for were Supernatural, ATLA, and HP, but I’ve done bits and pieces for MCU, miscellaneous crossovers with other things, way back when I did some Dragonlance and LOTR and Wheel of Time...
Where you post: At the moment, mostly AO3 for fanfic stuff. And my writing tumblr.
Most popular one shot: Judging purely by hit count on the stuff that’s been crossposted to AO3 (since that’s easiest to track) - for Star Wars, either The Magic of Midwinter or To his family, send him. Which, incidentally, was the first thing I wrote when I came back to this fandom, lol. Uh. Sanctuary also did pretty well, I think. Most of my SPN fic never got that popular, but some of my ATLA one-shots got a fair number of hits, as well.
Most popular multi-chapter: Precipice, by a wide, wide, wide margin, lol. Uh. Leaving that one outlier aside, Distaff is the next most popular, followed by These Three Remain and then Asajj Ventress and Her Tiny Time-Travelling Conscience. For my non-SW stuff, The Promises of Angels did fairly well for a very long genfic about a tertiary character who (at the time I wrote it) had been dead for five seasons...
Favourite story you wrote: GDI. I hate this kind of question, lol. Uh. I’m still fairly proud of Promises, which I mentioned earlier--at the time, it was the longest contiguous story I’d ever written. Precipice has its ups and downs, but I still love it and have no intention of leaving that AU/timeline anytime soon. The Devoted turned out really well, I thought. Looking back at most of the stuff I have out there, there’s bits I would change, to make things more cohesive/coherent/whatever, but I like what I did with a lot of my stuff. ...also, my AU outlines are a blast, I really should update one of them/write another...
Story you were nervous to post: Lord. Uh. Mostly the more niche/self-indulgent things (or...things that I’m concerned will come across as self-indulgent*?) and/or unusual formats--so, crossposting Ventress to AO3; some of the Jedi of Valdemar bits; the portions of Precipice that deal with Lavinia. It’s Like Deja Vu (All Over Again), too. I was waffling about some of the way chapter 2 plays out. Oh, and Sanctuary, mostly because I don’t hang out in the ST corner of the fandom very much so writing Rey was a little weird for me, but I think it turned out okay?
*Because, while I’ve long since decided to stop feeling guilty/ashamed of such things, I like getting good responses when I share my work??? And I don’t like getting bad ones. So putting that kind of stuff up in a place where it’s intended to reach a wider audience can still be a little nervous-making, if that makes sense.
How do you choose your titles: Oh, all kinds of places. Words that sound cool/feel appropriate, various quotations...I think I did a list on some of my title sources at one point...aha, here it is!
Do you outline: Not..really, no, lol. Like, for Precipice, I sort of have a vague idea of the Major Plot Points that happen in most of the arcs, but I don’t really have it written down anywhere. I had a kind of outline for Heaven on Their Minds, I think; and when I’m working on a Big Bang project or something else with a Deadline, sometimes I’ll have placeholder chapter/scene titles in there? (Like, in The Devoted, there was The Heist(tm), and Obi-Wan and Padme Cannot Ethically Seduce Anakin, and Bail is In Trouble, and Dramatic Confession Scene(tm), etc., but nothing like a Formal Outline. ...come to think of it, I do that with Precipice, too. But not usually very far in advance, just when I’m actually sitting down to organize the next two-three chapters/scenes/plot point/whatever. Oh, I do have kind of an outline for Jedi of Valdemar, mostly because it’s an enormous timeline and I wanted to get the order/relative dating/ages straight. But that’s not super detailed.
Complete: Uhm. Well, in SW, mostly my oneshots. These Three Remain is complete. Deja Vu is technically complete, but I might do a sequel at some point? The Devoted, I have more stories to tell in that universe, though the individual fic itself is complete. The Phoenix I actually do plan to write sequels to, and have them vaguely planned out (The Hercinia will be sort of two parallel storylines, one on the planet and one with Luke and Vader; or possibly three, since the two of them will be mostly split up. The Caladrius will bring everything back together, probably, though I haven’t worked all the details out.)
In progress: Precipice, Distaff, Asajj Ventress and Her Tiny Time-Traveling Conscience; in addition to the probably-continued AU worlds mentioned above, Auxiliaries and Jedi of Valdemar universes (Auxiliaries, at the moment, has only been posted to tumblr, not AO3). Some unposted things, such as our faces like a mirror; a few things in other fandoms (Serenissima, for one; I’m considering rewriting For Sorrow Sung and/or actually getting my notes for The Other Battlestar into some kind of postable fic format, but we’ll see.)
Coming soon: Uh. Well, like I said, our faces like a mirror; I’ll do something for next year’s SWBB; more in various established AUs; probably another AU outline at some point...
Upcoming story you are most excited to write: All. Of. Them. <--I’m just gonna leave @spell-cleaver’s answer here because Mood.
Do you accept prompts: Yes! Preferably at my writing tumblr (shadowsong26fic). I do prompt calls every so often (usually for holidays or for Bonus Fics celebrating specific milestones), and I’ll sometimes reblog prompt lists/memes and the like, but I am always open for prompts. It’s just if I haven’t made a specific call or whatever, there’s no promises on when I’ll fill it. I reserve the right to refuse prompts, if it’s something I don’t feel comfortable writing or something I don’t think I can do justice, but you can always feel free to send me an ask if there’s something you’d like to see from me!
Tagging anyone who wants to do it!

H, I and P? For the fanfic ask
Hi there!
H: How would you describe your style?
So, there was a meme that was going around tumblr a while back, basically ‘your one writing Quirk/Bad Habit is now the name of your band.’ I’m still rather proud of my answer which was something along the lines of: “Hi! We’re the Neverending Sentences, and we’ll be here all night!”
….yeah. XD
Pretty sure I never met a semicolon I didn’t like. Also en/em-dashes. And ellipses…I know there as Thing where people tend to only use one of the above but I am Greedy and I use them all. Loooooots of run-on sentences.
Which I think ties into the fact that–a lot of what I write, in terms of the narration, tends to be fairly internal-world focused, I think? Occasionally bordering on stream-of-consciousness, almost. Which leads to the fact that almost everything I write is close-third with rotating POVs. Outside of oneshots (i.e., Sanctuary), I think pretty much everything I write uses at least two POVs. Oh, and Deja Vu, kind of, although I bring in a second POV for the epilogue/reveal.
The one exception is something that hasn’t come out yet–our faces like a mirror (a story about Bo-Katan I’m working on that will hopefully but probably not start coming out before the new Clone Wars episodes potentially Joss half of it) is going to break a lot of patterns for me, because this story pretty much needs to be told in first person.
I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?
I am a sucker for hurt/comfort/whump-fic. I mean, it does need to center around specific characters (i.e., I’m not really interested in Obi-Wan whump, which is sad, because like 80% of the PT-era H/C fic I’ve found is focused on him), and go in specific directions (i.e., which person is being hurt and which is doing the comforting matters a lot to me). But, yeah. Within those parameters, give me all of the soap-opera-bullshit, taking-bullets-for-each-other, I’m-totally-not-bleeding-out-there-are-More-Important-Things-to-worry-about…this creeps into some of my writing, but I tend to mostly keep it to myself/a fairly small circle. But I read it when I can find it with characters I want it from.
Also, I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m…basically pathologically incapable of not creating a bunch of OCs? Like, I think the only fandom I’ve been Invested in where I didn’t was probably Person of Interest, but I mostly use that for crossovers, anyway.
But, yeah–I mean, there’s Lavinia and Dr. Naar and Moonshot and the various apprentices in Precipice, and there will be more in future arcs; also, I mentioned our faces like a mirror above and that will involve several OCs…I posted some snippets a couple days ago about the family I built up for Kallus (three of his and Zeb’s kids are actually my friend’s OC’s; but his sister, her three sons, and the fourth kid are mine.) There are more, but those are just the ones I’ve written/talked about here.
That being said, apart from plot-necessary OCs (and Lavinia), I tend to not share a whole lot of the stuff I write with OCs outside of a small circle who I know would enjoy it. Not because of guilt (I try not to feel guilty about my pleasures, especially in a fandom context), but because what I do is pretty self-indulgent and I know it’s not for everyone.
And then there’s Avatar…XD
P: Are you what George R. R. Martin would call an “architect” or a “gardener”? (How much do you plan in advance, versus letting the story unfold as you go?)
Gardener. Deeeeeefinitely a gardener. Like, I generally have a vague layout for the garden, so to speak–I know what I want to plant there and roughly where the different flowers/veggies/whatever should go, buuuuut I definitely make things up as I go. Precipice is actually way more solidly-plotted than most things I write, but I still have some gaps in the next seven arcs, and part of why I slowed down a bit for a while was that I had some major gaps in arcs Five and Six.
Distaff has stalled for similar reasons–I mean, partly because I did stuff out of order (Obi-Wan needs to do some stuff before leaving for Utapau, but I already did the Opera House because I’m dumb), but also because there’s three or four different ways I could go with the rest of it and I keep waffling, lol.
I also have a bunch of white space in our faces like a mirror, and one of the reasons I haven’t gotten around to fleshing out my Bail Unfucks the Timeline AU is because of all the white space there.
Basically, for like 99% of my fic (that’s longer than a one-shot, at least), I have a general idea of Major Plot Points, but a lot of the ‘how I get there’ is super vague until I actually sit down and do it. Which does lead to stalling out and a bunch of half-finished WIPs, but when it works, I think I get some pretty cool stuff out of it?
Ask me writing questions!

How did Lavinia react to the sanctuary being ransacked, and eventually finding Gabriella's corpse on the table? How did she feel about Astrid?
Okay so i just wrote a whole fucking fic for this ask, its the first time ive ever written anything that wasnt for school and i really hope you like it bc im lowkey proud of it. Also big thanks to @awesomeundertalelover3 for helping me out!
Alright kids, enjoy just over 3000 words of badly written but surprisingly sad angst
tw for death, blood, gore, angst
Lavinia’s Death Incarnate
The moment Maro revealed that the sanctuary was gonna be ruined, she shot him in the heart. She didn’t even give him the rest of his stupid speech, she just fuckin shot him. And then she started running. She quickly took out the rest of the guards as she ran and she just booked to the sanctuary. When she saw the flames she had to force herself to not break down then and there because she HAD to find Gabriella. She NEEDED to find the rest of her family. Besides Brynjolf? They’re all she has.She saw Festus first. The man was pinned to the tree and her rage got closer to a breaking point. She quickly ran up and laid his body on the ground with shaking hands, promising she would mourn him later, but for now, she had to see who in her family remained. If Gabriella was alive. She got in and she saw Veezara first. she saw him curled on the ground dead and she just broke. Her rage took over and all she saw was red. In her rage and grief, she took out every invader from the rooms at the top of the stairs and the entire main room. Then she heard Nazir fighting and her vision cleared to try and find him, get to him because she knew he was alive, she could hear him. Then she saw Arnbjorn. She saw that there was a dead guard, whether she or the werewolf killed it she had no idea. And then her eyes travelled up to Arnbjorn in his beast form. She could barely keep herself from going into a rage again. She was standing above him, about to reach down to touch his fur, if she had, she would have surely broken down. Just before she did, she heard Nazir again and went to find him.
But then she found Gabriella.
She was rushing to find Him and then she saw her. Her love, her life, her beautiful Gabriella. She saw her and she just.. broke. She couldn't hear or see anything but her love, lying dead on a table. She staggered over so she could see Gabriella's face. Her girlfriend has always said she thought she might die soon but Lavinia always thought she would have been able to stop it. But here she was, laying on a table, blood leaking through her robes and yet, she looked like she had accepted it. Her eyes shut and her face relaxed. She almost looked asleep.
Lavina stood beside the body of her love while her home burned around her and that was it. All those years of building herself stronger so she would never break again and yet this was what broke her all over again. She took Gabriella’s cold hand and fell over the table with a scream of anguish. So loud, so full of emotion that Nazir and the guards he was fighting stopped in their tracks. It was a scream so raw and full of grief that would haunt Nazir for months.
Nazir was first to get back to the fight. He had realized the scream belonged to Lavinia and he knew she had found Gabriella. He used the guards shock to his advantage and quickly stabbed one through the stomach and then slashed the other across the throat. He quickly made his way back to the dining room where he saw a terrible sight.
Lavinia had collapsed with her head on Gabriella's chest and held the dunmers cold hand to the other side of her face. Her green eyes wide but unseeing, blinded by grief and tears. Half of her face was covered in Gabriella’s blood from a wound on her chest but she didn't notice. She just focused on the feeling of her beloveds soft chest and hand, holding her just she would when they would share a bed.
When Lavinia was remembering the betrayal of mercer or the death of her adoptive parents. Gabriella would run her long nails down Lavinia's cheek and hum while the bosmers tears would stop flowing and she would drift into a dreamless sleep. But now Gabriella wasn't humming. Her long nails weren't running down Lavinia’s cheek and she would never be able to dry her tears again.
Nazir almost didn’t want to disturb her, he wanted to let her be with her girlfriend and grieve in peace but he knew that the room would be falling soon and there would be more guards arriving soon. He tried calling her name but she didn't seem to notice, she didn't move or even look at him. The dead woman's blood was starting to get in Lavinia's red hair that the dunmer had loved so much. Nazir heard the bang of a rock falling in cicero's room and he knew that they needed to start moving.
He walked over so he was in Lavinia's line of sight but her blank expression didn't change, she just held Gabriella's hand to her face even closer. Nazir sighed and crouched down to try and make eye contact with the woman lying over the table.
“Lavinia we need to go. The sanctuary is collapsing.”
She didn't answer him, her teary eyes just flicked to look into her best friends eyes before looking back down into nothing. Nazir saw in her eyes and it was like all the grief of every betrayal, every kill, every death that she had ever experienced was pouring out in just one look and he had to look away. She just stared into nothing until he reached out to touch her face and she jolted up so she was shielding Gabriella from him.
“Don’t touch her!” she screamed. She no longer saw her best friend, she just saw another person trying to hurt her love. “Don't touch her or I swear by sithis there will be nothing left of you.”
Nazir just stared at her while she defended the corpse of her beloved and realizing her dagger was on the ground he made a decision.
“I love you Lavinia, so don't hate me for this.” and then he rushed to quickly drag her into his arms while she struggled. She screeched and scratched and struggles while he dragged her away from the table. He got to the stair and she was still screaming and trying to go back to Gabriella, she couldn't leave her there, she couldn't let her go.
She started begging and sobbing, “I can’t leave her, I won't let her be alone! Please let me go I need her!” she continued like this till Nazir shifted so he could grab her jaw with one hand. “Dammit, Lavinia stop it! She's gone!” He yelled in her face and looked right into her wide, frantic eyes. She froze in his arms and finally made eye contact with him again.
And then she whispered, “I can’t be alone again.”
He moved his hand from her jaw to her cheek. “You have me, Lavinia. You have me and Babette and Brynjolf and the night mother. We will never leave you alone.”
She searched his face for any sign that he might be lying and when she found nothing she went limp in his arms and whispered “okay.” into his chest. He adjusted her in his arms and made his way towards the coffin room, searching for a way out. He got there and the exit back to the main room was all blocked up.“Dammit. Blocked.” Lavinia looked u from his chest to see the closed off entrance and then buried her face back into his robes, feeling hopeless."Hush child, I will help you" a smooth and low voice called from inside Lavinia's head. It was terrifying but ... calming. It seemed to know what to do and with what Lavina was going through, she needed that kind of guidance. "Come to me, Embrace me, child... I will save you. I am the only thing that can save you" If she was in her right mind, she would’ve never listened but her grief was clouding her judgement."Nazir put me down." Nazir was going to argue but stopped when he saw the look in Lavina’s eyes. With a quiet nod, he set her down and watched her closely as she steadied herself."Yes my Listener. Join me." The sarcophagus doors creak open and she heard Nazir's sound of surprise."Embrace me my child.”
She desperately wanted to listen to that comforting voice but she looked back to Nazir who was staring at the coffin doors. She looked back to the night mother.
“What about Nazir,” she said quietly. No answer.
“Dammit, what about Nazir! I can’t just let him die!” She yelled at the mummified body of her night mother. She was about to start yelling more when she felt Nazir’s hand on her shoulder. She turned to him and he looked her in the eyes.
“Go. If she says you will be safe in there then that's where you need to be.”
“What about you” she started rambling. “You said I had you, you said I wouldn’t lose you dammit Nazir. I can't lose you, not when I already lost her, I can't do this.” Nazir cut her off by dragging her into an embrace. He held her to his chest as she sobbed and he whispered into her hair.
“It doesn't matter what happens to me. You are the listener, you will keep the brotherhood alive. I love you, Lavinia.”
And with that, the man kissed her head and pushed her into the coffin.
She started screaming but he shut the door before she could escape. She screamed her lungs out and scratched at the coffin doors, not hearing Nazir’s apologies and goodbyes before the cave rumbled and the coffin fell backwards through the stained glass. She felt it hit the lake below and sink into the soft sand and the water. It was pitch black and she was screaming Nazir's name until the night mother spoke“Sleep, my child. Accept my embrace and sleep.” and as Lavinia tried to fight it, she got quieter and drowsier until she fell into a dreamless sleep.
When Lavinia woke up she didn't have even a second before it all rushed back, ending with her realizing Nazir was most likely dead. She was just about to start panicking when she heard it. The voice of one of her best friends, Babette, the childlike voice sounding urgent.
“Hurry Nazir! I’m telling you she’s in there!”
“Nazir..” she thought, “He couldn't have survived…”And then she heard him.
“I’m going as fast as I can, you stupid she-devil, I don't see you helping.”Lavinia was about to start screaming for them, suddenly feeling very claustrophobic inside the coffin. Before she could scream she heard the night mother, she could no longer hear her friends, only the night mothers voice.
"You must speak with Astrid. Here, in the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary."And then the night mothers voice faded away as she felt the coffin being dragged from the water. She heard Nazir's strained voice as he pulled her up the rocks
“One more…pull… yeah!”Babette spoke again, sounding even more urgent, having heard Lavinia awakening with her heightened senses.
“Can you get it open”“I think so, just hold on a moment.”Lavinia heard a few more grunts and then the doors of the coffin were opened and she shot into a sitting position. Before she could do anything, Babette had thrown her small body at her and was hugging her tight.
“I came back and the sanctuary was burning.” Babette cried into her neck “And then when I got inside I found Nazir and got him out, he said you were okay but I thought...”Lavinia finally wrapped her arms around Babette and reassured her that she was okay. She didn't really feel any relief anymore. She didn't feel anything. She just knew she had to find Astrid and she felt the night mothers pull to Astrid and Arnbjorn’s shared room. She dragged herself out of the coffin and immediately stood, needing to get there as soon as she could. She was about to start walking when nazir grabbed her arm.
“Lavinia, you should sit down, you look exhausted.” Lavinia wouldn't even look in his eyes.
“Let me go, Nazir. Astrid is alive and I need to find her,” she said coldly. He knew she was mad at him and wanted to talk to her but their leader still being alive that was more important. He let her go and trailed behind her as she made her way to the stairs.
She basically had to drag herself up them, her muscles screaming but she could barely feel it. She didn't feel anything but the urgency to get u the stair and see Astrid. The woman who invited her to join the family. The woman who kept everyone organized and getting along. The woman she trusted and respected. When she got to the room she saw that the wardrobe had opened to a secret room and she knew that's where Astrid was, all the while Babette and Nazir trailed behind her, not saying a word. The sight she saw when she went in would be one that would never leave her. It would haunt her nightmares for years to come, be yet another source of her anguish when she tried to sleep. Astrid's body laid out, burned to expose flesh and muscle, almost unrecognizable. The whole room smelled of burned flesh and blood. Around Astrid lie the items of the black sacrament, items that Lavinia now knew well. And then she saw movement. She saw Astrid's breathing. And then she spoke.
She cried out her sins, everything she had done to her family. How she exposed them and got most of them killed. How she was just another person that Lavinia trusted, betraying her without a second thought. Lavinia remained silent as she desperately explained that the sacrament was for her death. How Lavinia needed to kill her so she may be judged by sithis.
Lavinia wanted to scream at her, get angry at her for all she had caused, yell until her lungs gave out and then scream some more. But she didn't. She looked over the ceremony before her and picked up the blade of woe. She moved so she was straddling Astrid's stomach hearing her hiss as Lavinia's armour made contact with her raw burnt flesh. She gently lifted Astrid's head, feeling burnt flesh move and shift under her hand but she didn't care. She brought Astrid to look her in the eyes and Astrid saw. She saw the raw pain and grief and sadness in Lavinia's eyes and she regretted it all. And then Lavinia leaned down to the mangled flesh of where her ear used to be and she whispered.
“I will kill you but it will not be mercy. It will not be to end your suffering, especially since you have been the cause of the endless suffering I will endure for the rest of my life living without her. This is for the night mother, this is for sithis, and this is for my Gabriella. Goodbye, you traitorous bitch.”
And she leaned back and stabbed Astrid in the middle of her chest and she screamed. She dragged the blade out, skin dragging back on the serrated edges as she lunged it back in on the right side. And then the middle again. And then lower. Always missing her heart, wanting her to feel her death instead of just dying.
She didn't hear Astrid whisper her thanks as she died, she just kept shoving the blade into the mangled body over and over until she heard Babette yelling and nazir dragging her off the body. Once she was off Astrid's body she stopped struggling. And slid out nazirs arms, fleeing down the stairs only to get to the bottom and stop.
She just stared at the rubble that used to be her home. She didn't know when Babette got to her side or grabbed her hand, but she held it as they stared into the smoke and rocks. They were silent until nazir came to take her other hand, and she turned and slapped him across the face.
“Sithis Lavinia what was that for!” he exclaimed. She slapped him again before screaming at him.
“How could you! How could you push me in that coffin, alone! I thought you were dead dammit! How could you do that to me, Nazir!” She managed to sob out the last words before she fell to her knees and curled in on herself, crying. She heard him sigh from above her and sit down beside her.
“I needed to know you would be safe Lavinia. I was okay with dying as long as you would survive.”
Her crying subsided to hiccups from her balled u form. Then she felt Babette's small hand on her back.“I would have done the exact same thing. Just as you would have done for use. Just as Gabriella would have done for you.”
At the mention of Gabriella's name, her entire chest exploded in pain and grief, before she launched herself into Nazir's lap, dragging Babette with her so they were both sitting between his outstretched legs, and his back was up against the wall. She balled her hand up in his robes and the other in Babettes skirts as she cried into his chest. Looking at each other, Nazir and Babette were finally overcome by their own grief. Babette pressed her face into Lavinia's hair, and nazir held them both tight as he cried into the top of their heads.
They cried for a long time. They cried for each other, they cried for their home, for their family. For Arnbjorn and Veezara and Festus. They cried for Gabriella, Lavinia even sobbing her name into Nazir's chest as she grieved, they even cried for Astrid, her death and the pain of her betrayal.
It would be a long time before they moved. Lavinia would be the first to stop crying but only because she exhausted herself into a deep sleep. Next would be Babette, her childlike cries finally stopping as Lavinia’s steady breaths calmed her down. Nazir took the longest. Babette eventually had to drag his face down to look at her and get him to start breathing normally again. When everyone was done crying, Babette gestured at Nazir to pick up their listener and he gently got her into his arms.
With one last look at everything they used to be, the left. Set up Shadowmere with a cart, laid Lavinia down in it with her head in Babette's lap, and they were off to the Dawnstar sanctuary with nothing but the clothes on their back and grief they will have for years.

This list will be updated as and when I remember to. My fanfiction is primarily hosted on AO3 (though I do have an old FFN account if you can find it), but I figured this would be a good idea/make things easier to find, especially for the content that’s Tumblr-exclusive, as well as my original fiction which is hosted elsewhere.
Stories marked with an * are complete.
My AO3
Star Wars:
Precipice
An AU in which Anakin Skywalker does not follow Mace Windu and the others to Palpatine’s office after they leave to arrest the Chancellor. As a result, he doesn’t get that final push over the edge, and doesn’t Fall.
…well, that’s where it starts, anyway. Our Heroes reunite with some old friends and pick up some new ones; Sidious find substitute apprentices…the story continues on for several years after the breakpoint, with the Rebellion gradually taking shape and the twins growing up, as well.
Content warnings for war, genocide, strongly implied child abuse (not from any of Our Heroes; Palpatine is raising a child), the Emperor is a POV character.
On AO3
Bonus Fic 1: Father’s Day; Untitled*
Bonus Fic 2: 100k; Margins*
Bonus Fic 3: One Year Anniversary; Secrets*
Bonus Fic 4: Valentine’s Day; All My Love, - A*
Bonus Fic 5: Mother’s Day; Untitled*
Meta, answered asks, deleted scenes, etc., can be found in the Precipice Verse tag
Updates (theoretically/ideally) approximately once every week/two weeks, usually somewhere between Thursday and Sunday night.
I have been on semi-hiatus for the past few months due to getting super-busy at work and then Moving, but I’m planning to get back on track for June, so we should be back to regular updates in the near future! ::...knocks on wood::
Distaff
In which Anakin Skywalker is a cis lady and the twins' gestating parent.
This story’s working title was The Crack AU That Takes Itself Too Seriously. In essence, Anakin Skywalker is a cis girl. So is Padme. Anakin still somehow gets pregnant. She is very confused. Everyone is very confused. And then ROTS happens...
Content warnings for war/violence; also, while no one is, has been, or will be assaulted, the topic of sexual assault does come up a couple times. I believe I’ve left a note on all the chapters where it comes up.
On AO3
Bonus Fic: Mother’s Day; Untitled*
Meta, answered asks, etc., can be found in the Distaff tag
Updates as and when I complete material, does not have a fixed schedule.
Masks
A near-canon AU in which Emperor Palpatine has a daughter.
An In Spite of a Nail AU, for the most part; though I tend to operate in a blended Legends/official canon. For those of you who follow Precipice, this is essentially Lavinia’s story if she existed in a canon-aligned timeline, rather than a true AU.
On AO3
Meta, answered asks, etc., can be found in the Masks Verse tag
CURRENTLY ON HIATUS
Auxiliaries
This is an AU in which Queen Amidala’s ship stopped someplace other than Tatooine for repairs. (The rest of TPM goes basically as in canon–someone else blew up the control ship, I’m sort of handwaving that detail, at least for now).
Eventual ObiAniDala; either Anakin-centered vee or full triad, I haven’t decided. There will also be at least one key OC involved, though I haven’t actually introduced her yet. This is the most divergent timeline I’ve written (or probably will write) for SW, but I have a lot of fun with it.
Auxiliaries is a little different from how my other stories are structured, in that it’ll be told as a series of short fics/vignettes in the overall AU (the title of which will be explained in later sections), not necessarily in chronological order.
General content warnings for war/violence/slavery; anything else that comes up in a specific story will be tagged accordingly.
A Day at the Races: Part One; Part Two [upcoming]; Part Three [upcoming]
Around three years after the Naboo Crisis, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi is sent on a mission to Malastare, and meets a certain champion podracer for the first time…
Bout*
Five years after meeting Anakin Skywalker on Malastare, Obi-Wan is back at the Temple, observing a senior initiate saber class.
Updates as and when I complete material, does not have a fixed schedule.
The Phoenix
About halfway between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Luke and Vader crash onto a planet that is essentially a typical fantasy world.
A crossover with my original fantasy world, The Farglass Cycle
Content warnings for some body horror, slavery, impending genocide, some mostly oblique references to previous genocide, other violence.
On AO3*
On Dreamwidth*
In theory, there are two other parts to this story, working titles The Caladrius and The Hercinia. I do intend to put them up eventually and have been poking at them off and on, but do not have an estimated completion/start date or anything at this time. So it’s less a hiatus and more a…waiting for the next season to start, I guess…?
AU Outlines
Heralds of Star Wars (Jedi of Valdemar?)
Crossover/fusion with the Heralds of Valdemar series.
The Rabbit Hole AU: Part One; Part Two
Temple-raised Palpatine
Bail Unfucks the Timeline
Exactly what it says on the tin.
Distaff Variant 1a
A Distaff AU in which Palpatine’s solution to the problems presented by Anakin’s pregnancy is to poison her and induce a miscarriage because yes I do in fact write AUs for my AUs. CW for discussion of miscarriage/abortion, as well as the same as the main/actual story.
Ventress and Her Tiny Time-Travelling Conscience: Part One; Part Two
In which ten/twelve-year-old Luke Skywalker walks through a Magic Canyon and lands about a year/year and a half before the end of the Clone Wars.
Everyone Is Time-Travelling and No One Will Admit It
Okay, okay, so the title is a little bit disingenuous; the entire PT trio is time-travelling (but they’re the only ones), Anakin and Obi-Wan have told each other but no one else, and Padme is keeping things entirely to herself. CW for some portions that could read as suicidal ideation (i.e., the last like ten minutes of the animated BatB movie ‘maybe it’s better this way,’ with a side of Act Five of Cyrano de Bergerac.)
(Also, I may end up redoing/reworking this one at some point)
Distaff Variant 2
A distaff AU in which Anakin decides to go to Utapau with Obi-Wan. Which, if she weren’t, y’know, pregnant, would probably have been the best possible thing for her to do...
Let’s Go Steal a Crossover: Part One (Background); Part Two [Upcoming]
A crossover between an AU of Masks!Verse (specifically, the Lavinia Organa AU, the background for which is described in Part One above) and Leverage.
You can also check out the AU Outlines tag
One-Shots:
Sanctuary: Tumblr; AO3*
Rey wants to find her place in all of this. When she finds a reference to Mortis in one of Luke's books, it seems as good good place as any to start looking…
To his family, send him*
In a world where Shmi survived, Obi-Wan brings Luke to safety.
It’s Like Déjà Vu (All Over Again)*
Three days ago, Padme Amidala closed her eyes for the last time in a sterile white room on an asteroid at the edge of nowhere. Three days ago, she opened them again in a sleek, chrome starship, watching Dorme put the finishing touches on Corde’s headdress, her own weighted braids a comforting blanket on her back.
Padme decides to change things, decides she can save Anakin this time. Except, as time passes, she starts to realize things aren’t happening exactly the way she remembers…
Content warnings for war, violence, referenced genocide, referenced murder, these two dorks and their AOTC angst…
The Magic of Midwinter*
A little more than a year after the start of the Clone Wars, Padme, Obi-Wan, and Anakin celebrate Naboo's Midwinter together.
Written for JediFest 2017 December Drabbles exchange; Prompt: ObiAniDala, Holiday
These Three Remain*
Immediately after the Festival of Light (and Obi-Wan's stint undercover as bounty hunter Rako Hardeen), Anakin and Padme leave Coruscant on impulse, in response to an anonymous tip sent to Padme's office about vital intelligence hidden in a cache of stolen goods. But things go terribly wrong, and they find themselves stranded and injured, with limited resources and no one knowing exactly where they are.
Meanwhile, back on Coruscant, when Padme and Anakin don't return as planned, Obi-Wan does everything he can to find them and bring them home.
Their situation, dire though it is, forces the three of them to process everything that just happened, and what it might mean for their relationship, moving forward.
Written for SWBB 2018.
Untitled Mother’s Day Ficlet*
Quick, meditative little ficlet about Shmi and Anakin and lullabyes/bedtime stories.
Original Fiction:
The Farglass Cycle
This one is very difficult to summarize. It’s a big, sprawling fantasy world with loads and loads of characters. The main plot has to do with a war with Feredar, one of the major nations on the continent. Principal characters involve certain members of the Feredar royal family, members of the royal family of the City of Glass, who are primarily fire-mages; a water-mage pirate captain and her lover and sister; a water-mage who was held captive in Feredar...The war is kicked off when a prince from Glass goes into Feredar as a spy, to find out if the situation there regarding the enslavement of mages is serious enough to justify a war.
Content warnings for war, violence, slavery, impending genocide. There’s also a serial killer subplot, and some espionage and murder.
(...I need to get better at summarizing things...)
This archive, as a note, is incredibly out of date—I think I last updated it in December of 2014.
Lux
It’s the thirtieth century, and the Biblical Apocalypse is about to begin. Translator Mariko Anders gets swept up in the action when she meets and falls in love with the titular Lux, an Alien whose species she can’t quite identify. There’s also an immortal wandering around who periodically gets his memories erased, a sprawling human Family that traces itself back a thousand years, the newly-awakened Horsemen, the Antichrist and the Second Coming are growing up in hiding, and, of course, angels—some terrifying, some warm, some a little bit of both.
Basically: the Apocalypse. In Space.
(With lesbians.)
(Archive last updated in December of 2014.)
Battlestar Galactica:
Serenissima
Joseph Adama is the Doge of Venice, which is in graceful decline from its peak of maritime economic and naval power. His younger grandson, Zak, has recently eloped to King Louis' court in France with one Kara Thrace, and a dangerous politician, Thomas Zarek, is soon to return from a twenty-year exile related to the untimely death of a previous Doge.
Between Don Zarek's imminent return and the likely imminent increase in the Serene Republic's long-standing rivalry with the Ottoman Empire, Doge Adama wants to shore up a few alliances. He arranges for Laura Roslin, a widowed noblewoman, to marry his similarly-widowed son, Commander William Adama. His elder grandson, Lee Adama, is likewise engaged to the young daughter of Cardinal Gaius Baltar. The first wedding is to take place immediately, the second in approximately a year.
In Istanbul, the Sultan, John Cavil, is indeed scheming and preparing to launch a massive attack on Venice, while internal politics within his own family and court may not be quite as clear-cut as he thinks. There are spies everywhere, and nothing is certain but that looming problems foreign and domestic promise trouble for the Serene Republic in days to come...
A Total AU set in Baroque Venice, somewhere between 1650 and 1750. One key OC is involved, because I like my OCs. Cowritten with tigerkat24.
Currently more or less on hiatus.
For Sorrow Sung
Nineteen days before Baltar's trial is set to begin, a teenage girl is shot just outside of Dogsville. Helo investigates.
CURRENTLY ON HIATUS
Nothing AO3; Livejournal*
Alternate ending to Crossroads: you never know how you'll meet the end until there's nowhere left to run.
End of Line*
Poetry; stream-of-consciousness in prison, persona poem.
[I believe that’s everything I actually posted; I may update this if I find something else digging through my archives. I know I wrote some bits that I never posted anywhere for various reasons]
Supernatural:
Note: I’ve more or less fallen out of this fandom, so pretty much everything listed here can be considered on semi-permanent hiatus; though I’m happy to discuss them if anyone’s interested.
Heaven on Their Minds
An In Spite of a Nail AU where Judas Iscariot is a key player.
Arc One: Livejournal; AO3*
While Castiel tracks Crowley down, looking for the Colt, Bobby finds a reference to a Weapon that can banish anything. Seeing a shot at a Plan B, Sam and Dean go to meet with a professor who might be able to help them track it down. From there, they are put on the trail of Judas Iscariot, who is not exactly what history claimed he was.
Arc Two*
It's been eighteen months since Lucifer and Michael were trapped in the Cage, and Sam now has his soul back at last, but things aren't going as smoothly as hoped. With the war between Raphael and Castiel heating up, Gabriel scrambling to keep his old lies from coming back to haunt him, Judas AWOL, and whispers about Purgatory floating around, it isn't going to be easy to keep things from totally falling apart at the seams. Again.
Then, one day, Dean gets a call from Jo about an old friend wandering back into their lives...
Arc Three*
Gabriel is struggling to control the chaos in Heaven in the wake of Castiel’s destruction. Meanwhile, with Castiel gone, his wall gone, Lucifer and Leviathan everywhere, Sam gets closer to Judas. After all, no one knows psychic pain, and guilt, and the long, hard road to redemption, better than the two of them.
Sidestories
These are bits and pieces that take place in the Heaven on Their Minds universe, but, for various reasons, didn’t make it into the main story. All of the ones up there take place either prior to or during Arc One, but reference a significant spoiler.
There were further arcs planned, but I don’t anticipate them turning up, due to the aforementioned falling out of the fandom.
The Promises of Angels: Livejournal; AO3*
Nick has never been anything more than a pawn, and he knows that--but even a pawn, strategically placed, can change the game for everyone.
It's a world full of angels, demons, and humans all fighting for control of the board. And while all he's really playing for is what he was promised in the first place--peace that never seems to come--Nick finds himself dragged back into a high-stakes game he can't afford to lose. No matter how much he wants to break free, it becomes increasingly clear that something buried deep inside him has changed, in ways he can't possibly understand; ways that just might keep him involved in the horrors that Heaven and Hell both inflict on humanity and, in the end, make things better--or worse. Along the way, there are friends and foes, wardens and protectors, and those who would try to use him to shape the future they want to see...
This is canon compliant until, depending on how you’re counting, Swan Song or Goodbye, Stranger; most of what happens up through Goodbye, Stranger could theoretically happen alongside canon events/doesn’t contradict anything we see onscreen, but sets up the significant AU from that point on.
There were originally sequels planned, but as I’ve largely fallen out of this fandom, I doubt they’ll materialize.
Cartography Verse
Named for the Seanan McGuire song.
Moving On*
While Dean is in Purgatory and Sam is in Texas, Jody joins a grief support group and stumbles onto a case. Canon-compliant through 10x23.
Compliance*
Three years after meeting Nick, Jody learns the rest of his story. Canon-compliant through 10x23.
Fragments: Livejournal; AO3*
In an attempt to talk Sam out of seeking Lucifer’s help with the Darkness, Dean tracks down the next best thing on Earth--Nick. As it turns out, he’s closer than they think, and the trace of Grace left in him when he was dispossessed may be vital to defeating the Darkness. Unfortunately, Sam and Dean are not the only ones chasing Archangel fragments, and at least one other person on the trail seems willing to kill Nick to get what they need...
the summers die; one by one: Livejournal; AO3*
The aftermath of Hammer of the Gods. CW for discussion of canonical character death.
Avatar: the Last Airbender
UNDER CONSTRUCTION. I’ve more or less fallen out of this fandom, as well, though there’s a chance I’ll get back to it at some point. Almost everything I wrote was one-shots, and they’re scattered around in several different places. I don’t expect to put out any new content in this fandom for the foreseeable future.
I’ll probably dig around and put together a specific link list at some point, but for now, a lot of it is on AO3, some of it is on my LJ, under the avatar tag
Miscellania
Lighter than a Feather*
Wheel of Time fanfic; The night after Rand and Nynaeve cleanse the taint from saidin, Mazrim Taim goes to deal with an Asha'man who recently snapped. CW for murder and saidin-taint madness. Some alternate character interpretations, as well. Spoilers through Winter’s Heart.
This was originally going to be the springoff point for a much longer AU. I don’t know if I’ll ever write it, even if I fall back into this fandom, but I may take some of the concepts/plans and file the serial numbers off for an original fantasy story.
The Epic Crossover RP OF DOOM
(I linked the Tumblr tag because it’s easier)
A crossover between Precipice, Marvel/MCU, BSG, The West Wing, Castle (technically), Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, The Daisy Dalrymple Mysteries, Thin Man, Thrilling Adventure Hour: Beyond Belief, and The Phantom of the Opera.
Cowritten/RP’d with tigerkat24. OCs abound.
The Blood to be Repaid*
A crossover between The Farglass Cycle and Pirates of the Carribean
Support of Family*
Sequel to The Blood to be Repaid
The Hands of Cain*
A crossover between The Farglass Cycle and Criminal Minds

A and I for fic ask
Hiya!
I was already answered here!
A: How did you come up with the title to [insert fic]?
I get titles from a lot of different places–I legit don’t remember where Precipice’s title came from, I think it just sounded cool? In hindsight, it doesn’t actually have a whole lot to do with the story itself, but I still like it. And then there’s themed naming for when I plan to break off later arcs into their own bits–Promises and Protectors, though I’m not sure which will be which. (If I do end up doing an Arc 7.5, to set up some of the stuff I need for the second section, I might call that Preludes? IDK, still considering.)
When I was starting to plan out Precipice, I was also working on a story that was basically a much-closer-to-canon In Spite of a Nail AU where Lavinia existed, and that had a similar naming pattern. Masks covers the OT/Galactic Civil War; Machinations was going to cover the next ten-fifteen years, and Martyrs was going to line up with a blend of the canon ST and some Legends stuff. That title was a lot more obvious–Masks dealt a lot with Lavinia and metaphorical masks, since she is trained as a spy/manipulator/diplomat/basically a Hand with the added considerations of Official Rank; and Vader was a primary character. Machinations dealt with the Imperial Remnant and actually ending the war, and Martyrs fit the theme naming and dealt with some relevant plot points.
Auxiliaries, which I’ve posted a couple snippets of here, is an AU that breaks off as of TPM, where they never went to Tatooine. It’s so named because Anakin, Kitster, and my OC Vika (who is a medic because those two need one) are working as smugglers/bounty hunters/whatever and end up being recruited by Obi-Wan during the Clone War.
It’s Like Deja Vu (All Over Again) is just a good title for a time-travel fic, lol. And also hints at the twist in the epilogue.
These Three Remain came from Corinthians (Love is patient; love is kind; etc.)
The Devoted, I think you might’ve actually been one of the people I talked about this with? But it came down to the story had these themes of love and obligation, and devotion covers both of those nicely.
our faces like a mirror comes from the song Antebellum, by Vienna Teng, which is a very Satine song in my head.
To his family, send him is of course a direct quote.
Sanctuary, I think just came from the idea of Mortis being a place out of time, sort of? I’m not sure I can put it into words, but that one was always called Sanctuary.
Most of my AU outlines are pretty Exactly What It Says On The Tin, when I have titles for them.
The Phoenix is an Obvious Metaphor, to the point where I considered changing the title, but it worked too well XD
ETA because I forgot it earlier—Distaff was suggested by a friend, and I liked it/it fit.
That…covers all the SW stuff I’ve posted/discussed here, I think? My fic for other fandoms/my original stuff tends to be pretty similar–either descriptive or metaphorical or from a quote. I.e., Serenissima for BSG because it’s a Baroque Venice AU; For Sorrow Sung is a quote from King Lear; The Farglass Cycle (originally called Feredar) is so named because the overall/broad/if I made this a Proper Fantasy Saga would be about the history of what eventually became known as the Farglass Empire, rather than just the Feredar War which led to Feredar and the Kingdom of the City of Glass being united under one ruling family. And so on.
Ask me writing questions!
