why do I have to do like seven things for a single stitch

my grandma has taught me how to crochet on three separate occasions and for some reason even though I never forget how to knit, all knowledge of crochet vanishes from my mind the second I'm not doing it

but now my cousin has given me this crochet kit for Christmas so I guess I better go to Youtube and figure this out
