got a new laptop on sale yayy 😎 hopefully a zoom meeting will no longer threaten to wipe out my whole machine
#32 GB RAM 1 TB SSD and new generation processor which is what i’m most excited about#the display is nicer than my current laptop (edge-to-edge makes it look way bigger than what i have)#only stuff i take issue with is touchscreen (though i don’t rly use mine anyway) and windows 11 but i can make it habitable#first order of business is wiping mcafee off the thing and making windows 11 as habitable as possible#starting fresh on this thing i’m so excited#my very first lenovo of my own for $799 plus tax!#imagine… i’m going to be writing my dissertation on this thang#thank you G-ERTI (old laptop) for your service (high school and undergrad) 🫡#7 years of use with zoom meetings almost daily my first year of undergrad is not bad indeed#i think with the 16 GB RAM it was really starting to struggle in the past year#and then sometimes it wouldn’t let me log in bc i ‘hadn’t installed a drive’#battery life wasn’t the greatest this past year or two#plus the display was starting to go too#better to start fresh knowing i will be doing things that require more memory and power#all the software i’m using now needs a more powerful machine to run it#the whole laptop is backed up to an external drive i might screw around with ubuntu on it at last when windows 10 reaches end of service#em speaks

tis an unfortunate truth of life that getting up early sucks so much. like soooooo much. and yet, being productive before lunch feels so fucking good and powerful. so one must bear the gauntlet of waking up early in order to feel good from doing stuff early. alas. they should make a better system.

ive been wondering why ive been coughing and feeling shitty the past several days and worried I was sick. but I think it was my partner's laptop battery swelling and possibly releasing toxic gases or smth bc once we took it to be disposed of we both started feeling a lot better 💀
#genuinely freaked out when she pointed it out#bc it was sooo bad looking#popped a lot of the chasis lol#ive never had this happen before and like this is my old laptop so its kinda crazy lol#it works without the battery luckily just being plugged in#ordered myself a new laptop anyways since mine has been having a lot of issues and I need smth beefier for 3d stuff#which ive been wanting to get into more#and ill use my current one for school next year after I send it in with the warranty its still under#the person who fixed my laptops keyboard broke a lot of other minor things#like it cant connect to wifi without an adapter and the mousepad doesn't work#and it freezes a lot#ive put up with it bc i cant afford to wait while its shipped out for repair bc of my job#but if i have a new laptop I can wait the month or however long it'll take to get it fixed properly#and maybe if it comes down to it I can just sell it after its fixed#i spend 80% of most waking days on my laptop so I think its a justifiable expense

had like 1 free day spent it hollow knighting and also applying for insurance and replacing card and getting new sim card. looked at the post i made abt like...research and stuff (the one w the video) and i literally do not recall writing it bc i was like blackout drunk when i made it. anyway im ok but i need to Do Things i want more time to Do Things !!
#i missed it sm ....#i truly needed bc ive been so exhausted recently that i felt like...blunted mentally almost? like i couldnt think clearly or function etc#like even simple problems were taking too much effort to solve. and i think i just needed a break. anyways#got super drunk lost phone n wallet in uber who then someone stole but its alright bc insurance yay#anyway i have to travel again tmrw which is not good i truly need a few moments to be productive outside of research#like i need to code and also do my uni work but like...literally quite literally No Time ! and my laptops battery died recently#which actually hinders me sm bc working on like...free moments like in trains or cafes is no longer an option#i need a high wattage plug socket available at all times to use laptop#anyways despite all that im kinda content.#also having a cat helps a lot#anyway hollow knight is rly good even tho sometimes i have skill issues !

need to shell out for a new laptop before the end of the year - for a lot of reasons but mainly bc support ending for win8.1 makes fixing the current beast rather pointless :/ (and. admittedly. there is a lot to fix. she's old and she has suffered.)
but my current beastie is from the last gen of laptops with a disc drive and the thought of using an external/usb disc drive is enough to make me cry tears of blood
#really though it is time to upgrade#and i hate to say it because she /runs/ fine it's all hardware issues w parts that can absolutely be replaced#but if i can't use it to run the programs i need then shelling out the money for those parts would ultimately be a waste#but also the fact that this machine that runs fine is no longer worth fixing bc some google-based bullshit just won't support win8.1 anymor#is ALSO a fucking waste & a pile of planned obsolescence bullshit! and i hate it!#but uh. even though she runs fine and she totally does. she does need. uh.#new keyboard (only 1/3 of keys work; currently use usb keyboard)#new trackpad ribbon cable (trackpad does not currently work; using external usb mouse)#new power button and connecting ribbon cable (turning it on involves opening it up and causing an intentional short-circuit every time.)#(a problem largely solved by simply never turning her completely off- except she also needs)#a new battery (current battery does not charge at all; machine needs to be constantly plugged in or it shuts down immediately)#...ok i might be the 'this is fine' dog about this#but i am still upset! that i will no longer have a disc drive inside my damn laptop.#that's the disc drive's natural habitat; that's where it should be; it's weird and offputting to have it connected via usb!#ack. why do tech companies fuck everything up.#and that's without getting into the way new devices offer less harddrive space so people will use the fucking cloud or whatever???#yeah sorry no i'm not using your goddamn data mining corporate off-site storage i want to keep my shit on my own goddamn machine#go to actual hell if you're trying to sell me a pc with less than at least 500GB of storage i swear to fuck#...in essence you could say the whole process is leaving me rather grumpy

i don’t know if it’s just the particular flavor of fucked that my phone is, or if the site truly is just horribly optimized, but lately I have not been able to collect void essence or read the plot comic on mobile
