PHA launches botanical garden project in Murree
LAHORE, June 23:
The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) of Lahore has begun work on establishing a cutting-edge botanical garden in the picturesque hill station of Murree, confirmed its director general on Sunday.
Set against the backdrop of the majestic Himalayan foothills, this 10-acre facility will showcase a variety of gardens, including Japanese Sakura and perfume gardens, a giant water lily pond, and a tunnel adorned with Wisteria trees of different varieties and colors, said Muhammad Tahir Wattoo.
This ambitious project, poised to be the country’s first of its kind, will also offer public amenities such as a children’s play area, zip lines, sky bridges, a glow-in-the-dark garden, and dedicated parking, he said.
PHA also operates a botanical garden near Jallo Park in Lahore, covering 80 acres. Around 30 acres feature diverse landscapes and attractions for visitors, including Rose, Bonsai, and Cactus Gardens, a creeper-covered tunnel, a Rhizotron for viewing plant roots, tree houses, gazebos, a Treetop Walkway, and the popular Butterfly House, the DG added.
Highlighting the new garden’s floral diversity, Mr. Wattoo mentioned it would feature dazzling flowers like Tulips, Tiger Lily, and Geranium, typically found in mountainous tropical regions.
He noted Murree’s unique climate accelerates the growth period of Tulips by at least two months compared to urban centers like Lahore, which could help conserve foreign exchange by cultivating the national flower of the Netherlands.
Additionally, PHA plans to host a groundbreaking Tulip exhibition in Lahore this December to celebrate the flower’s rich cultural history.
Mr Wattoo recalled that Tulips originated from lilies in East Asia 21 million years ago, later cultivated in Kazakhstan and used as food by nomads. In Persia from the 11th century, Tulips symbolised the start of spring, celebrated for their beauty in art and poetry long before gaining fame in the Netherlands.
“Visitors can expect to embark on educational journeys through themed gardens, each representing distinct ecosystems from around the globe,” the director general said. He emphasised that the initiative underscores the Punjab government’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable tourism development.
The botanical garden is expected to open its gates to the public later this year, he concluded.
Separately, the PHA has also decorated the main thoroughfares of Lahore, including Jail Road, The Mall, Johar Town, and Canal, with colorful light structures twinkling like stars on the ground. Ring and crescent-shaped light installations positioned along these roads offer a stunning spectacle at night.

I woke up late and then had my morning chai and got ready to leave for the salon and to see Maria. I skipped showering. Ubered to the salon and read thru the way; ring road drives are my favourite. it was peaceful and Lahore looked lovely in the sun. Uber driver was a sweet man who loved to talk a lot and gave me unsolicited advice on how Uber drivers can cheat people playing with card.
I went to the salon and got my hair washed and braided. Ayesha, Dua’s friend, came over and ayesha mama and Misha mama together tried to convince me to give the CSS and crafted my career for me. then Maria came to the salon and met mama and we both went to readings and sat at fasana and journaled and made mood boards on Pinterest. Then we went to Gaia and had a whole meal of sushi. I got dropped back to salon and mama and Misha mama weren’t there I just sat at the main desk and vibed. Then I walked to the cakery and noor was seeing a girl in a park nearby, she walked to cakery and we ubered home together. She talked and talked about her student and work and I could listen to her for hours.
I came home and ibrahim made me coffee and then I started my meetings. Noor left soon, and I caught up on work thru the night and did some self care.

Lahore, January 07:
Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi reached Bund Road to review progress being made on the Controlled Access Corridor Bund Road project tonight. CM conducted a detailed visit of approximately 8 km long project and reviewed progress being made on the whole project for two hours. Mohsin Naqvi stated that there is a dire need to speed up pace of work on the project. CM directed to complete the project by 31st January. He inspected the ongoing construction work from Babu Sabu up to Saggian under package 2 and from Saggian up to Niazi Chowk under package 1.CM directed both the contractors to further accelerate pace of work adding that the design of a nullah along with the project should be prepared forthwith. Mohsin Naqvi while seeking a plan of the construction and restoration of the surrounding roads stated that coming 7 days are highly crucial and the pace of work should be expedited.He directed the Deputy Commissioner, CTO and concerned officials for the prompt resolution of traffic issues.Chief Engineer LDA and both the contractors gave a detailed briefing to the CM about progress being made on the project. CM while talking with the media during his visit to the Controlled Access Corridor Bund Road project apprised that the whole team is working day and night for the completion of this project which should be duly acknowledged. The citizens are facing traffic problems due to Bund Road project but this project is meant for the facilitation of citizens. All concerned officials including the Deputy Commissioner and CTO are striving to their utmost so that the citizens have to face minimum problems.Traffic will have to be closed for few days for early completion of the project on which we apologise in advance. The Lyari Expressway project was approximately of the same magnitude which was completed in 7 years. We are striving to complete this project in 3 months. CM informed that 55 percent on the one phase and 40 percent work on the other phase of the project has been completed. Hopefully, the Bund Road project will be completed by 31st January. The Ring Road will be completed with the completion of Bund Road project. Multan Road will be linked with the Bund Road project and a circle will be formed. The circle of Ring Road will be completed for the first time in Lahore with the completion of Bund Road project. In reply to a question, CM stated that we are reviewing the weather condition till 9th January and will make a decision about the educational institutions afterwards. The caretaker government will keep on displaying its performance till its last hour. The police personnel have been awarded one uniform each and we are trying to award them second uniform as well. Hopefully, the next government will work hard. In reply to another question, CM stated that we admit defeat with regard to encroachments and sometimes one has to accept defeat. Provincial Ministers Amir Mir, Azfar Ali Nasir, Deputy Commissioner, MD WASA, CTO and concerned officials were also present on the occasion.
