I hate how painfully ironically poetic lolita is. Dolores Haze died a nymphet. She was never able to grow into a woman, instead she’s forever lolita, immortalized by death and never aging.

It all comes full circle and in the end- humbert humbert fucking won. It’s now romanticized as tragic beautiful love story, a charming french man falls in love with his dream girl, a nymphet seductress. When really it’s a gothic horror, a cautionary tale about a child who is repeatedly raped and abused by a man that is supposed to be a father figure, a guardian, a protector. The “charming french man” is a stupid annoying oui oui baguette wannabe poet that never shuts up, and the “nymphet seductress ” is a 12 year old child who dresses like a tomboy and likes to play in the dirt and read comics.

Seeing all the media surrounding this book and then reading it made me question if we read the same book. The lolita tags on tumblr are full of posts made by creepy old men or teenage girls who romanticise and glorify the abuse dolores went through. This is exactly what humbert humbert wanted- for the story to be viewed from his unreliable narrow perspective and we’re seeing that happen. Posts about fucking older men are tagged with dolores haze- a child sexual assault victim who’s also a comfort character for people went through the same shit. Can you not get it through your thick skull how disrespectful it is? She’s not your nymphet seductress she’s a child abuse victim.
