Striking Ontario College Faculty Reject Latest Offer
“Ontario college students aren't headed back to the classroom anytime soon, after striking faculty voted against the latest contract offer. The results of a two-day vote were made public late Thursday morning.”
“Premier Kathleen Wynne issued a statement after word of the vote broke, saying students have ‘been in the middle of this strike for too long, and it's not fair.’ The premier will meet will representatives from both sides Thursday afternoon ‘to discuss how we can resolve this situation immediately and get students back to class where they belong. We are looking at all of our options, but I am hopeful that an agreement to return students to class immediately can be reached by the parties.’ ... Wynne ... [says] she supports the collective bargaining process, and wants both sides to come to an agreement.”
“Some 12,000 college faculty, including professors, instructors, counsellors and librarians, have been on strike since Oct. 16, leaving about 500,000 students in fear for their school year.”

Students launch class action lawsuit against Ontario’s colleges
“A proposed class action lawsuit over Ontario’s ongoing college strike has been launched on behalf of students affected by the labour dispute. The legal action comes as striking faculty who’ve been off the job for about a month began to vote today on a contract offer.”
“Law firm Charney Lawyers filed the proposed class action against the province’s 24 colleges today, saying 14 students have come forward to potentially stand as representative plaintiffs. The notice of action alleges the colleges breached contracts with students by failing to provide vocational training and a full term of classes.”
