GOSH DARNIT! This was why living in a village so dang far away from Edo City made things a smidge more tricky when it came to being on time-- ESPECIALLY WHEN IT CAME TO HER FRIEND'S BIRTHDAY!

If Kagura would look on over to the Northern Street, she will see a cloud of dust beginning to pick up in size. And soon enough, a pair of familiar silvery pigtails flailing in the wind itself, along with a couple of other things!

As fast as her legs could carry her, Itsuki was rushing on towards Snack House Otose. With balloons, a big ol' package of her friend's favorite snacks, as well as a lil' something handmade from her! And she could only hope that they aren't mashed to a pulp, by the time she reaches her poor friend-in-waiting.

"K-Ka... Kagura... sis!" Itsuki's head hung low as she loudly tried to catch her breath. As she stands right in front of the redhead, she gives herself a moment first-- before lifting her sweaty, smiling face up to her. Handing the gifts over to her friend, as she lets out a whooping (But still pretty breathless): "HAPPI BIRTHDAY, SIS!!!"

She would pull you into a big ol' hug too if she could, but it might be best to save that for later, once she wasn't so dang gross and sweaty!

"... Uhm sorry fer bein' so late! Ah wanted ta make sure ah had this done fer ya!" Gesturing towards one of the packaged gifts in question, inside was a vibrant red Ainu robe that Itsuki had made entirely by hand! With accents of white, yellow, blue and some pink on there as well, which Itsuki had of course picked based on Kagura's usual wardrobe. "Ah hope ya like it! It's great fer the cold weather-- but it's also made ta protect ya against EVIL SPIRITS! ... Uhm sorry ta say it can't protect ya against BUTTHEADS like dat one bro, but... ahhhhh know ya don't need it~" She then dissolves into a fit of giggles upon saying that, "... c'mon! Try it on, sis!"

She had just came back from visiting Princess Soyo. A nice little fun day after her birthday, where she had showed her friend the prizes her brother won her during their trip to the amusement park. Kagura hadn't been expecting to see a cloud of smoke though, much less see Itsuki appear within it. The sight took the Yato by surprise, blue eyes blinking curiously. More importantly, Kagura was really happy to just see her again!

Although, the young Yato worries just a smidge when seeing how out of breath her friend was. ''Are you alright?'' She'd immediately ask in concern, but saw all the things Itsuki was carrying and realized why the girl had been in such a hurry.

''Hehe, thanks Itsuki!'' She was given a beaming smile, appreciative and not really caring about her friend being a day late. It would've been nice if Itsuki had been at her party, although she would've seen the mess that turned into. It still would've been nice to have her there regardless. ''Don't worry about that, it's okay! I would love to have you at my party next year though! If you don't mind a couple others being there....'' Kagura looked at the stuff her friend had brought, the Ainu robe was what made her mouth open agape, looking in awe.

''This is so pretty!!!!! It looks handmade, did you make this?!'' Hearing it could protect her from evil spirits but not buttheads made her laugh. Although, it sounded like Itsuki bumped into the Shinsengumi bastard Kagura had hinted about. Very unfortunate. ''Be careful sis, you have to watch out for yourself you know?'' When she was told to try on the robe, Kagura didn't have to be told twice. She excitedly went ahead and slipped it on, looking over herself and really liking the way it looked on her.

''I love this so much! I'm definitely wearing it, especially since it's getting windy already.'' Even if Itsuki wouldn't had wanted to, Kagura ends up hugging her anyway.

''Thank you!!!! I can't wait until your birthday so I can get you something too. Maybe one day you can come over, and play video games with me and my brother. Although he's, as you say... a butthead. But one I don't mind USUALLY-''

That would be fun, plus she just wanted an opportunity to hang out with Itsuki more!

Happy birthday to the best Senran girl!!

Hibari deserves way better than this admittedly but 2024 has been one hell (derogatory) of a year so far and it's not even been a full 2 months yet. I haven't even really felt like myself until the past week, admittedly, and only recently begun feeling like drawing again even more recently. I basically slammed this out in a fraction of the time it usually takes me to do art. I hope Hibari finds this offering to her adorableness adequate.

I actually like seeing the quieter, less staged images of characters instead of full poses, and I wish we got to see that more often. The Senran Kagura Wiki states Hibari's hobby is video games and even if the wiki is wrong, we see her playing Pokemon Go in PBS so I'd like to see her playing video games more instead of it constantly being the usuals like Murasaki and Mirai. Perhaps even having a video game get together with the usuals? That could be real cute.

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!!!

January 28th is my birthday, dubbed Meimiday several years ago by my friends (I think it was hojo who started it). For those years, I would spend all day watching streams from said friends playing games for my birthday entertainment. Over a decade ago, however, when asked what I’d like to see I kinda just went “Why don’t you just beat some games?” and so the festivities truly began. Most of us frequent the Backloggery, so it’s kinda easy to see why it has snowballed~

I do not write anything past romance at the moment! - Sorry!

Kamui's birthday 2024

Before Kamui and Kagura had rekindled their sibling relationship, he didn't bother with his birthdays like when he was a kid. The only thing that had been on his mind was getting stronger. Things like birthdays seemed unnecessary for him. It had only brought back painful memories too of the birthdays he celebrated with his mother.

Now though, Kamui didn't really have a choice in the matter since it was Kagura that called him up and demanded he visit her. Truthfully, he had forgotten the day of his birthday given how many years he didn't celebrate it. The only reason he had realized it was coming up was with how she kept trying to ask him what kind of stuff he liked in not very subtle ways.

In all honesty, he thought it was cute. She was putting in so much effort because of that locket he gave her for her birthday back in November. Kamui recalls the way Kagura actually cried when he gave her that, then hugged him. He didn't expect such a reaction but it made him happy. Despite how mean he could be to her, he still cared a lot about her. Whenever they would spend time with each other, it made Kamui realize how much he had missed her over the years. Kagura obviously felt the same given the hell she went through for them to have this kind of relationship again.

"Hello?" Kamui dropped by the Odd Jobs place, where Kagura lived. Usually he'd think at least Gintoki would be around, but the poor guy deemed anytime Kagura's big brother visited as a good time to find a place to hide given the countless attempts to initiate a fight with him.

Since no one was around, he went ahead and rummaged through the fridge since he was hungry after the trip here.

"Ooooh, strawberry milk!" He saw the carton, and it said 'Property of Gintoki' written on it but that didn't stop him from grabbing it and downing it within seconds. There had been a few cartons and he really loved strawberry flavored things sooo.....

They were all emptied. Cartons tossed to the ground. There were a few other things in there as well, like onigiri, dangos, etc. Well, now they were gone. Lovingly placed inside his stomach.

Soon he'd feel an aggressive yank on his cape that startled him, and forced him out the fridge and onto the ground. A hand slammed the fridge shut.

Kamui looked up, surprised when seeing his little sister glaring down at him. "I'd appreciate it if you didn't eat all of our food, stupid."

He'd wipe the rice sticking to the sides of his face, shamelessly grinning up at her. "I was hungry, couldn't help it.''

''Get up before I decide to kick you in the head.'' She'd say with her arms crossed, glaring daggers at him. He did listen and stood up.

''You're soooo mean little sister.'' He faked a hurt looking expression,

''You're not one to talk big brother.'' Kagura spoke mockingly, with an eye roll. He laughed but then felt himself being pulled by the arm and pushed down on the sofa to sit.

''Alright, stay there. Don't eat or break anything, got it?'' She commanded, Kagura looked pretty serious so he knew to not disobey. He'd just smile innocently.

''Of course, of course. You know I always behave when coming over!'' Cue an annoyed huff when Kamui said that from Kagura,

''Yeah, keep telling yourself that. There's a reason Gin-chan is nowhere in sight when you visit.''

''Awww, is he afraid of me? Guess the so called fearsome white demon is actually a coward.'' Kamui looked amused while swinging his legs as he sat on the sofa.

''No, you're just annoying and violent. Anyway.....'' She went to the closet, rummaging through some stuff. Eventually she pulled out something that looked like a glass bowl?

Kamui stared over at her curiously, she carefully walked back over to him and placed the glass bowl on the small coffee table in front of him. He leaned in to look at it, and then his eyes widen.

''It's a terrarium. I made it myself. Of when we all lived on Rakuyo together. Me, you, mami and papi.'' Kagura went down on her knees, so she could glance closely at the terrarium. It had tiny versions of of everyone, and their house when they lived in the slums. The flower their mother loved was all around their home too, it was an extra detail she added since they both loved giving that flower their to mother all the time.

A friend of Kagura's had given her the idea, and she worked on it for a while. It took forever buying the materials. Kagura never did anything like this before either. Hell, she had bandages around all her fingers because some of the material pricked her skin. She wanted to make sure everything was perfect.

''Oh and I also made this.'' She handed him a card she made herself. Just like when they were younger. When Kamui looked at it, the front had rabbits on it, all resembling their family. Not just them though, it also included Kagura's earth family, and she also included Abuto.

Kamui opened it up and looked inside to see what she wrote:

Hey Kamui, happy birthday,

This is your first birthday we get to celebrate together since... well... everything that happened. I know I was really happy to celebrate my birthday with you. Honestly, you really didn't have to do all of that. Getting me a super expensive locket, and then spending all that money when taking me to the arcade with you? Idiot.

It was fun though. You're annoying but I really have a lot of fun whenever you visit. I always look forward to it, and kind of wish you'd move here so I can see you more often. You should consider that one day, I mean.... there's plenty of samurai you can fight here you know. You have that bitch from the Shinsengumi who I fully support you killing.

Anyway, I'm.... really happy to have you in my life again. I missed you a lot. I hope you know you're really important to me. I want you to take care of yourself, and care more about yourself. If anything were to happen to you..... It'll hurt a lot. So stop being stupid.

Let's just have fun today. I planned stuff out for us. I wanna make sure you enjoy your birthday to the fullest. Like you did for me on my birthday.

Kamui closed the card, and swallowed thickly. He'd look away as one of his bandaged covered hands covered his mouth. The card made him feel so many things at once. He'd start sniffling despite his efforts to prevent himself from crying.

''Cry baby.'' Kagura's insult broke the silence and she'd just look at him with a smug smirk.

He'd look back at her when taking his hand off his mouth, ''I'll kill you.''

''I'd like to see you try, when you're sitting there bawling like a little kid.''

The both of them just laughed it off, before Kamui sighed. ''Thanks. I always really liked whenever you made me things by hand.''

Kagura blinked at him surprise, ''Wait, really?''

He nods smiling, ''I still have the ones you made when we were younger. Your drawing skills were awful then, and they're awful now.'' Kamui looked at the front of the card with a snicker.

Kagura glared at him, ''If it's so awful give it back.''

''No.''

Kagura reached to try and grab it but Kamui held it out of her reach when standing up.

''Nah, I'm keeping it forever.'' He flicked her forehead, which was strong enough to force her back pretty far and make her fall.

Kagura huffed in defeat, ''You're really annoying, and here I thought we could have a nice time at that restaurant you wanted to go to. I stole Gin-chan's wallet and everything.''

Odd Jobs got paid pretty well during a recent job, and Kagura immediately took everything before Gintoki had a chance to dump it on gambling and sweets. Mainly because Kamui's birthday had been coming up.

''......Do you mean the one with the really spicy curry?'' He'd question, putting the card down on the table next to the terrarium.

''Yes.'' Kagura stood up, holding the wallet out which was fattened with plenty of cash within it.

''You should be nice to me if you wanna go there today.'' She smiled deviously at him.

Kamui walked over to her with the most fake smile she's ever seen on him.

''C'mon, would my adorable sister pleaseeeee show some mercy to her brother.'' He'd ruffle her hair and Kagura just gave him the most disgusted look afterwards.

''Don't do that. Stop. I'm going to puke.'' When he was nice like that, it made her want to gag. It was so cringey.

He sighs, then actually wears a more genuine smile. ''Whatever. But I am really happy after the stuff you gave me. Thanks a lot.''

Kagura put the wallet away in her pocket. ''Yeah, yeah. Let's just go. Afterwards we're coming back here for your party, I even invited that Abuto guy. You're close with him right?''

Kamui gave her a weird look, ''Abuto? No. He's just my vice commander, nothing else.''

She looked at him skeptically but knew there was no point fighting him on this. ''Anyway-''

She started leaving with him,

''Did you know during my fight with him, I took off half of that guy's ear?'' When Kagura mentioned that Kamui tried to hold back his laughter but failed.

''Seriously? That was you? I kept wondering what happened but every time I asked, he never answered.''

''Yeah, really wish I did more damage to that guy.''

''I ended up taking one of his arm's off.''

''Seriously? Why is it ALWAYS an arm you end up taking off? First papi, now this guy?''

''Blame him for stopping my fight with Housen, I was having fun when him and one of my other men had the nerve to jump in.''

''Housen?! Why the hell.....''

''Why not? I thought it'd be a fun fight. He was probably stronger than me at the time, buuuuut I wanted to challenge myself.''

They had kept chattering on with each other while heading to the restaurant, but after Kamui said that, Kagura stopped walking. She'd stare at the ground.

Kamui stopped as well, giving her a confused look until she finally spoke,

''.....If you keep doing that, you might die you know.''

He'd blink a few times, before exhibiting irritation. ''I usually win all my fights, it's not a big deal.''

''What if you go against someone who's way too strong for you? What then? Sure you learned and taught me Qiqong so we could alter our age and live longer but you could still die if you're injured too much, and you're always so reckless and you.....'' She started crying, sniffling and covering her eyes with her arm.

Kamui didn't expect his sister to start bawling like that, he stared at her surprised. He'd awkwardly rub the back of his head, ''You always tell me to go die anyway, woudn't that make you happier?''

He had been trying to lighten the mood by saying that, but he only made it worse. Kagura ripped her arm from in front of her eyes, glaring at him while tears fell down her face.

''You're an idiot! You KNOW whenever we tell each other that it's never serious! I didn't go through hell to get you back into my life JUST to tell you to kill yourself, what the hell is wrong with you?! There's seriously something wrong with y-'' She went to punch him but Kamui grabbed her fist and looked down at her,

''You know, sometimes, I do kind of wish I'd die during a fight.'' His words carried weight to them, yet he wore that usual smile of his, or rather the mask he'd give everyone.

''I wish that a lot actually.''

It didn't do anything to stop Kagura from crying though. If anything, it looked like his words hurt her more. ''...Why...? I don't want you to die. I want to celebrate more birthdays with you, I already missed so many of yours. Every time your birthday would pass, it'd hurt a lot... I'd think about when we were kids.... I'd think about that maybe I could have stopped you, maybe talked you out of leaving.... I'd blame myself a lot. We lost mami, but I also lost you. I lost two people.....''

She'd tremble, bringing her arm down when he let go of her. ''The big brother who took care of me when I was sick, when I was lonely, when I was bullied......''

Kagura looked up at him pleadingly, ''I know I sound selfish because you're hurting but... you continue keeping these things inside. We're family aren't we? Let me be there for you. C'mon Kamui. I don't want to lose you permanently.''

Her words cut deep, and it really rendered him silent. His features faltered, and he'd frown. Averting from her gaze, he'd sigh.

''Hey... how about once everything is over with today, I'll sit and talk to you. How about that?''It wasn't as if he hadn't tried opening up before, but he found it to be really difficult. He'd always end up getting pissed off or certain things were just too hard for him to speak about. He could always try again, for her sake and for his own.

''Really? Are you serious?'' She'd sniffle, trying to wipe her eyes with her sleeve. She'd look up at him hopefully.

''Yeah. She'd want that too right?'' Kamui asked before looking over at her,

''Of course she would! She loved you a lot, stupid! If not for me, do it for her! She wouldn't want you to join her anytime soon!'' Kagura would huff, though eventually smile after she settled down.

''So could you try and be more careful?''

''Yeah, yeah.... alright. Whatever. Can we just go get some curry? It's MY special day right?'' Kamui said with annoyance, ''I'm really hungry still.''

Kagura puffed out her cheeks, ''Don't forget who's going to be paying tonight. I don't have to get you anything and could just leave you starving while I eat like a queen.''

''We can always start the day with me bruising your face you know. Do you really want that?'' Cue the malicious smile he'd wear after saying that,

She faked a sniffle, ''My big brother is so abusive. Trying to ruin the beautiful face I inherited from mami. How dare you.....!''

Kagura was such a pain in the ass.

They went to the restaurant after that to celebrate Kamui's birthday. He couldn't help feeling grateful for her, since at the very least he knew she'd be the only person in the universe who would never give up on him.

No matter what.

‘’Shinpachi. You didn’t invite Umibozu, right?’’

Shinpachi stopped wrapping his gift to look over at Gintoki, ‘’Was I not supposed to?’’

Dread immediately crosses Gintoki’s features, a weary sigh as his face was buried into his hands. ‘’Idiot, Kagura said she was going to split her birthday into two. One day for Kamui to visit and one day for Umibozu since Kamui still hates the baldy.’’

Shinpachi smiles nervously, realizing his mistake. ‘’Ahaha… sorry Gin-san.’’ He rubs the back of his head, knowing the apartment likely wouldn’t still be standing later. But he had hoped Kamui would be mature, for once. However, it was an unlikely thing to happen.

Gintoki would only groan, plopping on the couch with an irritated look. ‘’The old lady is going to kill me.’’

 As if on cue, Kamui broke down the sliding door with his weight. Due to his hands being full of food, and various things he had bought Kagura while he was away. ‘’Hello ~!’’ His greeting was cheerful as per usual, although his gaze met with Gintoki’s who looked pretty pissed off.

‘’Ooooh, mr. samurai is looking pretty upset. Well, not my problem. Hahaha!’’ He beams cheerfully. His care for either Gintoki or Shinpachi was very little, having only come for his sister’s birthday. Gintoki’s mood seemed to only sour because of his attitude. Shinpachi was sweating anxiously retreating to the couch near Gintoki. Kamui wasn’t paying attention, just humming to himself as he’d act like he owned the apartment and started using the small kitchen. It’s not like anyone had the gall to speak up about it anyway, everyone in the room was intimidated by him especially because he'd occasionally get too punch happy.

‘’K-Kamui-san… Kagura-chan should be here soon. She’s been with the princess for most of the morning.’’ Shinpachi would say, hoping his information would be helpful for him. 

Kamui would pause, placing down the bowl he was going to use for baking Kagura’s cake to give Shinpachi that usual fake smile he’d give everyone. ‘’Did I ask? I’d rather not be spoken to by a loser who jerks off to idols, and hentai manga. I texted Kagura right before coming over. I already know. Now shut up, and don’t disturb me again. Or else.’’ His words carry a dangerous edge, despite his cheerful tone. It was enough to hit Shinpachi where it hurt, and immediately turns back to Gintoki looking like he was about to cry, meanwhile the one next to him looked like he was holding back laughter. At least it was an improvement in his mood.

After that, Kamui then went ahead and baked Kagura’s cake on his own. He was going to make a bunch of dishes once Kagura came back. Not wanting any of it to get cold before she got a chance to eat. Yatos usually ate a lot, so the amount of food he was going to cook made sense. Plus, was the reason Gintoki was barely managing to survive while living with Kagura. Once the cake was done he took it out and started smearing chocolate frosting on it. He went through the trouble of baking a chocolate seaweed flavored cake by hand. He had practiced a couple times beforehand to make sure it tasted good. At least for Kagura. 

 Kamui had decorated the cake with little rabbits, then placed the candles. It looked extremely well done, as if he was a professional. He looked pleased with his own work.

Given everything Kamui was doing, one wouldn’t even believe Kagura and him tend to fight all the time.

‘’Gin-san, does he hate us?’’ Shinpachi would whisper over to Gintoki,

Gintoki looks at Shinpachi then over at Kamui who was now sitting across from them on the other couch wrapping the gifts he bought for Kagura, ‘’Yo, Kamui. Shinpachi wants to know if you hate us or not.’’ Meanwhile Shinpachi starts panicking.

Kamui hadn’t bothered to look up while he continued, ‘’If I saw the glasses wearing virgin getting stabbed, beaten and tortured, I’d stand there watching and laugh at him.’’

There was a tense silence before Shinpachi would mutter under his breath despairingly, ‘’Why did he only mention how he felt about me….?’’

After a few minutes, all the presents he got Kagura are wrapped. He lets out a relieved sigh right before yawning, then his eyes dart to Gintoki. He didn’t really have anything else to do until Kagura came back, having finished everything within a short timespan.

‘’Mr. Samurai, can we fi-’’

‘’No.’’

‘’Eh? Why not? You’re pretty lame.’’

‘’Save the violence for when you’re not in my apartment, fighting obsessed dumbass.’’ Gintoki’s words led to Kamui irritably clicking his tongue, yet decided to not initiate anything himself for once. Likely trying to behave on Kagura’s birthday.

‘’What happened to the door?’’ Gintoki and Shinpachi exchanged concerned looks when hearing someone at the entrance, and quickly stood up to rush over. Like they thought, it was Umibozu. Kamui hadn’t noticed just yet is what they assume, having been on his phone texting Kagura.

‘’U-Umibozu-san…. You should come back another day! I got the date wrong, it was a simple mistake! A mistake!’’

‘’Yeah, you should come back tomorrow. That’ll be better.’’ Gintoki and Shinpachi were desperate to get him to leave, not wanting a fight to happen between him and Kamui.

Umibozu looked between the two, confused. ‘’I know it’s my little girl’s birthday, why the hell would I come another day? What the hell is wrong with you two?!’’

‘’It’s earth tradition to celebrate the day after your actual birthday!’’ Shinpachi was making up lies, hoping he’d be convinced. Gintoki went along with it,

‘’That’s right! So be a good dad, and come back tomorrow!’’ Unease filled the smiles on both their faces, unfortunately for them Umibozu wasn’t too easy to fool. A miracle given how stupid his kids were.

‘’Nonsense. Kagura has told me about birthdays she’s celebrated with her friends in letters she sent me, and never mentioned anything about that. Get out the way.’’ Umibozu would say, not the least bit convinced. Gintoki and Shinpachi would continue blocking the entrance but he was still stronger and kept pushing them back. Eventually, he’d notice the cake Kamui had displayed on the table between the two couches.

“Gin, did you bake that cake for Kagura yourself?” Umibozu would as he went to taste a little of the frosting. Gintoki sweated, and just like he thought, a knife was stabbed through Umibozu’s hand without remorse when he got close to the cake. Causing him to wince in pain.

“I have a rule that anything I make for Kagura, is for her and only her.” Kamui smiles up at him before removing the knife, skillfully moving it between his fingers.

“Oh, did you forget I know how to cook and bake?” He quirks a mocking brow, “Although, I guess you wouldn't know period since you were never home when I was taking care of people you should've been taking care of. At 8 years old.” Kamui’s laughter was so nonchalant, as if his words didn't immediately make the room tense and uncomfortable. He didn't care though..

“Don't touch her cake. She's coming in a few minutes, I was going to be nice and not try to kill you today, but if you piss me off enough I may just cover the apartment in your blood.” He stood up so he could start cooking the other food,

“You can't stop being a spiteful brat for once?” Weariness fills Umibozu's words as clutched onto his wound, although it wasn't as bad as previous injuries he's gotten. A stab in the hand doesn't quite match up to getting his arms torn off, and being nearly sliced in half.

 Kamui would turn to look at him, “Oooh, you're expecting me to idolize you like when I was a kid? You're nothing to me now, so don't hold your breath for that to ever happen again.” 

After that, he focused on cooking. Surprisingly, not prolonging the conflict with his father. Who had sat on the couch mumbling angrily to himself. Gintoki and Shinpachi were just relieved that no fighting happened, aside from that.

 Not long after all the food was done, Kagura had come home with Soyo. They both look down at the door on the floor, exchanging looks with each other. When they got inside, Kagura would grin when seeing her brother. He may be a jerk a lot of the time but he constantly made an effort to be present in her life now, ever since she traveled with him during those two years.

“Ka-” The joy faltered when she saw Umibozu too, and wondered how the apartment was still intact. She glared over at Shinpachi, looking really pissed. Kagura gave him one job, and he couldn't even do that. 

“I'm sorry Kagura-chan, I think Umibozu-san would've come today had I invited him or not.” Shinpachi still felt bad though. Kagura just sighed knowing nothing could be done about it now. Gintoki gave her a reassuring head pat.

“Your brother hasn't started anything though. He did stab your father for nearly touching your cake earlier, but other than that they haven't talked at all.” Gintoki's words made her look at the samurai dumbfounded. Usually Kamui acted really petty and spiteful whenever their father was around, so him actually being on his best behavior was so surprising. Kagura really couldn't believe it. The stabbing was to be expected, but the fact that Kamui didn’t immediately initiate a fight…..

 He really was putting in an effort for her birthday.

 When she turned, Kamui had already brought her cake and the suddenness made Soyo yelp and back away but Kamui didn't care enough to pay mind to the fear she still held of him. 

“Blow out the candles, idiot.” 

 Kamui would tell her while lighting the candles on the birthday cake. His smile was surprisingly genuine, which Kagura can easily tell. She looked at him astounded at this sudden maturity.

“Hurry the hell up before I slam the cake in your face.” Someone was growing impatient, and Kagura scowled at him.

“It's my birthday, I can take as long as I want, asshole!” Kagura huffs, crossing her arms over her chest.

“Someone stop them before a sibling spat breaks out.” Could be heard in the distance.

“Since I'm such an asshole, I'll be sure to return all the stuff I got.” Kamui would gesture towards the pile of wrapped gift boxes which made her eyes widen.

“But aren't you poor as hell?! You barely make enough money to eat, how did you manage to-” Before she could finish publicly calling him out, the cake Kamui made was very much slammed hard into her face which startled the princess as she looked between the two.

“You never know when to shut up, do you? Learn to keep things to yourself stupid sister.” Kamui got pissed, having started cracking his fingers.

Kagura stood there shocked, face covered in frosting and cake that slowly spilled to the floor. Once she processed what happened, she wiped the cake off her face and attacked him leading to a brawl between the two. Various things ended up getting broken in the crossfire, even the table with all the food Kamui cooked Kagura ended up destroyed, some of the gift boxes got thrown about, but it was only when the TV ended up getting punched through because Kagura dodged one of Kamui's punches did Gintoki finally break. Crouching into a ball with his hands buried into his palms yelling and sobbing. Shinpachi gave him a comforting pat on the back with a sympathetic smile. Soyo was hiding behind both of them, clinging onto Shinpachi’s kimono.

Kamui would eventually pause in the middle of their fight after slamming her head into the wall, acting as if this was the most normal thing in the world. For the two of them, it pretty much was. “Oh yeah,” He dug into his pocket and pulled out two tickets to a nearby amusement park.

“I also got these, since you like rollercoasters.” He let her go, and because of their fight the entire apartment was now trashed.

“Woah, really?” Kagura took the tickets from him, seeing it was unlimited for every ride for the entire day. It occurred to her that Kamui spent a lot of money but she was not saying anything this time. At least, not right now.

“Let's go then.” Kamui and Kagura then leave, seeming to not care what became of Gintoki's apartment after their spat. Kamui didn't start a fight with Umibozu.

But him starting one with Kagura was something everyone was so used to, they didn't think it'd pose a problem.

Gintoki sighed, sitting on the only couch that managed to survive a Yato sibling fight. “Umibozu, you really should've pulled out.”

Umibozu had watched the whole thing and seemed pretty amused by it, “I'm glad to see those two get along so well.” He only laughs with a proud smile.

“How the hell does getting along involve trashing my whole apartment?!” Gintoki looked over at him, fed up with this guy's entire bloodline. His sperm was cursed.

“Umibozu-san, did you get Kagura-chan any gift for her birthday too?” Shinpachi couldn't help his curiosity, since Umibozu arrived empty handed.

“Of course I did, who do you think I am?” Umibozu felt insulted that it was even thought that he'd come without a gift for his precious little girl.

“A terrible father for one. Neglectful. Lacking proper discipline methods given how awful your son is-” Gintoki got punched hard enough to keep quiet after that.

Soon enough, a large gift would arrive in front of the apartment. Outside. It was pretty easy to see given the multiple holes in the walls from the monster siblings. The gift wasn't even small enough to fit inside, and it really showed that Yatos lived- no, more like this family in particular lived in a whole other universe from everyone else.

“What happened to the princess?” Gintoki asked, clutching his aching, bruised up face.

“She called Nobume-san to pick her up since she didn't want to stay.” None of them were surprised about that. But at least she got to spend half of the day with Kagura.

Meanwhile, at the amusement park the siblings were enjoying themselves. It was a little later in the day, so they didn’t need to carry their umbrellas the whole time. They rode on the wildest, scariest rollercoasters multiple times looking like they were having the time of their lives meanwhile others came off the rollercoasters dizzy and nauseous.

 Kamui and Kagura decided to play some of the games there too, and Kagura would pout since Kamui was stupidly better at her in all of them. They got so many prizes, that eventually he had to buy a bag to store them all in. Although she did glance over at him a few times, and noticed he had bags under his eyes. It made an uncomfortable feeling fill her stomach. Unease. She had thoughtlessly pointed out how poor he usually was in front of everyone.

So, how hard did he work to get her all of that stuff? Kagura would've been happy with just a new outfit or just him cooking her favorite meal. Yet, he went so overboard. She felt bad. What a stupid brother. Stupid and reckless……

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Kamui ended up catching her looking at him after he bought food for them. They sat down for a momentary break, eating a couple bowls of takoyaki.

Kagura was quick to look away, frowning, “You’re such an idiot…” She'd eat another takoyaki ball from her bowl, yet she felt guilt which made swallowing it difficult.

‘’You worry too much, you know? I’m fine.’’ Kamui tried to reassure her, since he hadn’t minded working a little extra for her birthday. To him it was a little extra, but he actually had been working a lot more than usual. Kagura could easily tell, she wasn’t stupid. When it came to reading her brother at least.

 It might be an insult to not appreciate what he went through to give her a nice birthday. But she couldn’t help worrying.

‘’Next time, I’d be happy if you just came over and made something for me like you always do. Can you just do that?’’ There was a pleading look that she was giving him that unfortunately Kamui could not say no to. He clicks his tongue looking away annoyed, not really though. He just didn’t want to admit that look worked on him.

‘’Whatever.’’

Kagura grinned when Kamui said that, hoping he took what she said seriously.

“Fuck you though for slamming the cake into my face.” She took another bite of takoyaki aggressively,

“i tasted some of it, and I know you made that with my favorite flavor in mind yet did that crap anyway. You piss me off.” She wished she could've eaten more of that cake, but no. It was completely ruined!

Kamui couldn’t help laughing after finishing up his food, not feeling the least bit bad. “It improved that ugly face of yours at least.”

Kagura was contemplating stabbing him right now, but his selflessness shown today held her back. “The only ugly thing here is you and your damn cape.”

He just shrugged, “My cape looks pretty cool, and didn't you also get one? Trying to imitate me since I'm so much cooler than you?” Smugness radiated from the smirk he was now wearing.

“I got a better one than you! And no! I don't want to be like you! You're lame! Ugly and annoying as hell!” Well, she did wish she was as skilled in battle as him but she wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of knowing that.

Kamui didn't seem convinced, as they got up to throw out their garbage after they finished eating. Kagura saw him retaining that smug look and went to punch him but he just held her back with his hand on her head.

“You seem to get mad over every little thing which makes it easier to bully you.”

 She glared, still trying to hit him but easily failing. “Your face is so fucking annoying!’’

All he did was laugh at her, but then was shut up by an abrupt kick in the face. He landed on the floor and blinked, processing what happened before looking up at her. ‘’Guess training you isn’t a complete waste of time after all.’’ He stands up dusting himself off,

‘’Yeah, yeah, can we go back to the rollercoasters?! We only went on them about….’’ She counts on her fingers, ‘’Thirty times, I can go way more!’’ Kagura looked pretty determined, meanwhile normal people probably couldn’t handle the rollercoaster that many times.

‘’Hmm…’’ Kamui tapped his chin, ‘’Do you think we can make it to 100 before the amusement park closes?’’ 

‘’Damn right we can! Let’s go!’’ Kagura excitedly ran back to the rollercoasters with him, and they continued going on. Although, after around 40 more times Kagura ends up throwing up all the takoyaki from before. Kamui rubbed her back, looking worried.

‘’Let me just take you home, it’s late anyway.’’ He figured she wasn’t feeling good after that, her face showed it. Kamui wouldn’t force her to continue just to break a record.

Kagura had been drinking the water he bought her, wiping her mouth and taking a few deep breaths. ‘’I’m fine big bro, I can handle going on the rollercoaster still.’’ She also kind of didn't want his money to go to waste. She’ll go for the whole day even if she feels like crap.

‘’Kagura.’’ The tone he used to say her name intimidated the younger Yato a bit, she’d glance at him, and he looked a lot more serious than what she was used to seeing from him.

‘’A…Alright… fine…’’ She frowns, looking down. Kamui then crouched down slightly to allow her to climb onto his back, she sighed and jumped on so he could carry her home. He also made sure to not forget all the prizes they won too.  Kamui would start walking, and her cheek pressed against his back pouting. ‘’I wish you wasn’t so hard on yourself.’’

‘’This is coming from someone who was going to continue riding the rollercoaster after throwing up, you’re really not one to talk.’’ Kamui would say amusingly, although his joking tone pissed her off.

‘’I’m being serious.’’ The frustration really came out when saying that, thinking about everything that happened between them thus far, the way he’d protect her at the risk of his own life, the effort he goes through for her. Kagura had so much fun with him today, it was nice seeing him happy, and it was nice being happy by his side like those occasional times when they were kids and he wasn’t stressed over their mother.

‘’I had a lot of fun Kamui, I’d like the same thing for next year. Just don’t overdo it next time around. Also… I’m sorry for making fun of you earlier…. I didn’t mean it.’’ 

 Kamui wasn’t sure what to say to her, other than the little mumbled ‘’Yeah.’’ that came out. Maybe he’ll listen to her, since it seems to mean that much to her. She eventually dozes off while he carries her on his back all the way back to Gintoki’s apartment. Apparently Gintoki had got someone to fix up the sliding door while they were busy, but Kamui kicked it down then gently laid Kagura’s sleeping form on one of the couches still standing. He covered her with a blanket too. For a few moments, his gaze does linger on her before looking away. 

 He honestly didn’t mind doing everything that he did, she was worrying for nothing. What’s a little extra work? Kamui yawned, thinking if he should make her another cake before leaving. He then feels someone’s hand placed upon his shoulder.

‘’It is good that you’re deciding to actually be a big brother, but you better not be filling her head with crap that’ll make her end up like you.’’ Umibozu would begin saying, ‘’She’s a kind hearted little girl and being around someone as evil-’’ Kamui sent him flying through what remained of one of the walls before he could finish his sentence.

He’s not about to be lectured by the neglectful father.
