Thank You, Jerry~ Part 6
Luke Patterson x Alive!Reader Series
Summary: After getting an afternoon free from the band, Luke decides to see his parents, only to find out something he wasnât expecting.
A/N: Surprise! Guys, guys, guys, itâs over! Listen, I enjoyed writing this series, but it brought me WAAAAY more stress than it should have because it lined up perfectly with my writers slump. I wanted to write more for it, but I pushed this for almost two years and it was baaaaad. I might write an epilogue for it to tie up lose ends and thoughts, but Iâm not promising anything because who knows how when that could be out.Â
I am also trying something new with tags! I am so tired of adding taglists at the bottom of fics, so I made a taglist blog and it is @updates-from-elleâ and the idea is if you want to be tagged in fics, you follow that account and turn on notifications. Iâm going to use it for this blog as well as my doctor who blog, so you would get notifs for both, just focus on the ones you want to read! That should be it! Hope you enjoy!

Part 6: Where do we go from here?
---
Lukeâs mind was racing as he sits in his friendâs silence, each of them processing everything Luke had told them about you and being Jerry. When he came back to the studio less than an hour ago, he knew he had to tell them everything, especially since he had disappeared for a whole day.
âThis whole time you were lying to her?â Alex mumbles, bouncing his leg and chewing on his nail. Luke wasnât proud of himself, but he nods.
âI was going to tell her.â He tries to defend but his friends all give him different looks of disbelief. Luke slumps back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest with a pout. âEventually.â He mutters and Julie throws her arms in the air.
She reaches for her phone on the table in front of everyone. âWhat are you doing?â Reggie asks, peaking over her shoulder as she searches through her contacts.
âCalling Y/N. Luke is going to explain everything to her.â
Lukeâs eyes bug out of his head as he leaps across the table, snatching Julieâs phone out of her hand and holding it out of her reach.
âGive me my phone back!â
âNo!â Lukeâs desperate plea is ignored as Alex plucks the phone out of his hand and tosses it to the girl. âNo, no, no, wait please- Donât call Y/N, sheâll hate me!â
âSheâll get over it.â Julie says and taps the phone icon next to your name, hearing the little rings as she fakes a smile.
Alex and Reggie are holding Luke back from grabbing the phone again and Luke doesnât know what to say until he shuts his eyes tight and shouts, âIâm in love with her!â The room falls quiet again and the only sound to be heard is Julieâs phone playing out your voicemail. Julie hangs up and Alex and Reggieâs hold on Luke disappear. They all take their seats once more, each in shock by Lukeâs declaration, including the guitarist himself. Luke takes a shaky breath. âI know that I messed up.â He finally says, voice quiet and unsure of himself. âAnd I need to fix it.â
Luke was thankful your call went to voicemail. He needed to make things right, but he needed more time than this.
---
This was bad. This was really bad.
Itâs been 5 days since Luke had last seen you. 4 days since Luke was ready to tell you everything. 3 days since Luke started to get worried. 2 days since you last left Julie on read and sent her to voicemail. And 1 day since Luke first popped into your house when he had time between rehearsals at a time you and your dad typically eat dinner, only to see your dad eating at the table alone.
He didnât want to assume anything happened, but he only had a few minutes to check on you. He hadnât seen your truck in your driveway for a few days, and neither Julie or Flynn had seen it at school. He went into your room a few times today, looking for any sign of you, but besides how freakishly clean your room is for you, heâs seen nothing.
âIâm telling you,â Luke groans, throwing himself on the couch, âsomething happened to her. I know it.â
âIâm sure sheâs fine.â Julie tells him, smacking his feet off the couch and taking their spot. âSheâs probably just out busy or something.â
âAnd ignoring her best friends?â Luke asks, giving her a look that tells her he already knows the answer.
Julieâs quiet for a moment until she starts playing with the hem of her coat. âWell, there could be another reason.â
Luke furrows his brows for a moment, trying to figure out what she was talking about until it hits him. Before Julie can even call out his name, Luke disappears, reappearing in your bedroom. He looks everywhere, going through your desk, bedside table, even opening your closet.
A lot of your clothes were missing, and your suitcase which you kept on a shelf at the top was gone. You were gone. He throws the door closed, pacing back and forth as he tries to think of some reason, of any reason, why youâd leave and where youâd go. He stands in front of your photo wall, eyes darting back and forth until Luke notices something very obvious and very depressing. Every photo of you had of the band and you and the little scraps of paper you hung up for Jerry was gone. He runs his hand over where they used to be. He tugs on the leftover pinned corners of the photos and notes. Not only were they gone, they were torn from the wall.
Lukeâs stomach falls.
You knew.
You knew everything.
And now you were gone.
---
Luke didnât think he was at your house for that long, but he collapsed on the bed, staring up at the ceiling he knew all too well as his tears dry on his cheeks. He didnât hate that you knew. Secretly, he believes he was glad you knew, that he didnât have to keep this a secret for any longer. But he hated that you found out on your own. He hated that he kept it a secret for months and you found out by yourself, probably believing you were lied to by all your friends. You were actively ignoring Julie, you didnât say anything to the band, and you were just⊠gone.
The front door bell rings a few times as Luke sits up, knowing he should probably get going. Your dad opens the door as Julie stands there with a smile. âCan I help you?â Your dad asks, holding the door unknowingly wide enough for Julie to see Luke appear over his shoulder, his eyes red and puffy.
âHi.â Julie sighs before looking back at your dad, âum, sorry. Iâm friends with Y/N,â Your dad takes a deep breath and sighs. âI just havenât seen her at school in a while and sheâs not answering her phone. I just wanted to make sure sheâs okay.â
âJulie, right?â Your dad asks and Julie smiles and nods. âY/N talks about you all the time, I knew I recognized you from her wall.â He rubs his face before sticking his hands in his pockets and leaning against the door frame. âSheâs fine. She uh, she decided she was going to go live with her mom for a while.â
âHer mom?â Luke pulls a face at your dadâs answer. You wouldnât go live with your mom just because you found out the truth, would you?
âHer mom?â Julie repeats Lukeâs question, hoping to get a bit more out of the adult. He nods, the smile he forces on his face was fake as Julie can see how sad the thought made him. âUm, thank you. If you talk to her, do you think you ask her to call me back?â Julie asks and your dad nods before seeing Julie off.
Luke joins her side only seconds after the front door closes. âShe knows.â He says, making Julie jump as she walks. âShe tore all of our pictures off the wall.â
âMaybe it was an accident.â Julie tries but Luke was unimpressed.
âAn accident that only resulted in our pictures being gone and thrown in the trash?â
Julie stops walking with a frown. âShe threw them in the trash?â
Luke shrugs. âI donât know, I never found them.â
âSo maybe she kept them.â
âI donât know! But I do know one thing.â
Julie looks at Luke, her brows pulling together in wonder before her face falls. âOh, please donât tell me youâre going to-â
âIâm going to go see Y/N.â
---
Julie was calling you again.
You hit deny before powering off your phone, falling back in the sunflower field you were sat in. You just needed time. Living with your mom again was the last thing you wanted to do, but you only slept at her house and chose to spend your days here in the field or around the town. You just couldnât be home with your friends right now. Julie most likely had no idea Luke was Jerry when you were telling her about him, but there was no way she didnât know they were ghosts.
You were so lost in your thoughts as you watched the clouds dance through the sky that you didnât hear the footsteps coming your way before a shadow falls over your face. âHey.â You sit up a little, leaning on your elbows to look up at the girl standing in front of you, someone you hadnât seen since before you moved with your dad. Kendall smiles down at you. âMy mom thought she saw you out here in our flowers yesterday.â
You didnât know what to say. She ignores you for months, hanging out with her new friends and thinks she can just show up while youâre struggling through things and pretend to be friends again.
At your silence, Kendall huffs. âLook, I donât know whatâs been going on with you lately since you moved, but youâre still my best friend. We went from texting or calling every day to whatever this is where I havenât heard from you in weeks! And-and when I do, itâs like youâre not even you!â You stare at her, your lips part as you release a shaky breath because you had no idea what she was talking about. She picks at the flower in front of her, refusing to meet your eyes. âI miss my best friend.â
âI texted you.â you whisper, hearing your voice crack from its first use in a few days. Kendall meets your eyes. âI texted you and I called you and you sent me to voicemail.â
âWhat?â She gasps, taking a seat next to you. âNo, I didnât. I texted you every day for weeks and you ignored me.â
You shake your head and pull out your phone, scrolling through the unanswered messages from you to Kendall. What surprises you is when Kendall hands you her phone and shows you the same. Hundreds of text messages and outgoing calls from her to you that you never got. Kendall and you were beginning to put two and two together.
âWait, show me my contact.â Kendall says and you show her phone number, nothing weird on your end. âCall me.â You do so, hearing the phone go to voicemail, but nothing pops up on Kendallâs phone.
You tilt your head, drawing your lip between your teeth before asking her to show you yours. You read the number on the phone before closing your eyes. âThatâs not my number.â
Kendallâs quiet for a moment. âWhen was the last time I texted you?â
âUm, I donât know.â You say and start scrolling through your texts. âI think the last time I saw anything from you was a few months ago and you left me on read because you were at Meredithâs party.â
âMeredith borrowed my phone.â Kendall whispered. Within just a few seconds, Kendall and you find your phone number sitting in Kendallâs blocked contacts.
âShe blocked me.â
âThat bitch.â
Your eyes widen. âWait, you donât like her?â
Kendall huffs out a laugh. âLike her? I hate her! She literally made your life hell.
âThen why were you hanging out with her and going to her parties?â
Kendall starts blushing as she avoids your eye contact. âBecause sheâs friends with Bailey. And Bailey is hot.â
Your mouth drops open in amusement. Leave it to Kendall to only hang out with your enemy for a cute girl. You start laughing, feeling immense relief that even after everything is over, youâd still always have her. Kendall slowly joins you in laughing, bumping her shoulder with yours as you both lay back in the sunflower field, enjoying being together once again.
When the laughter stops, Kendall speaks up. âWhy did you come back?â Sheâs not mad that youâre here, you being here just made this one of the best days sheâs had in a while, but she is confused. âI thought youâd never willingly choose to live with your mom again.â
You sigh, breathing out a laugh through your nose before you tell Kendall everything. Every little thing from moving into the new house, meeting Jerry, meeting Julie and the boys, getting to know Luke, and most importantly, being lied to by him.
Kendall doesnât know what to say and her silence is scaring you a little. Finally, she takes the bag she was carrying and smacks you in the arm with it, repeatedly.
âOw!â you say although she wasnât truly hurting you.
âIâm sorry, but are you stupid?â She says and you push her away jokingly. âY/N. Itâs so obvious that youâre in love with him.â
âHe lied to me, Kay. Heâs still lying to me. How can I be sure he wo-â
âSo, talk to him.â She interrupts you, grabbing your hand. âLook, what he did sounds stupid and awful and I donât doubt you would love to ignore him and your new friends and never have to deal with the problem.â She knows you very well. âBut I also know that those feelings you have for him arenât going to go away and you are just going to eat yourself up inside until you figure out why he did what he did. Iâm sure for some reason or another, Luke had a reason to pretend to be Jerry.â You know she has a point. And you know that this canât just be a problem you push aside and ignore, just like the problem you thought you had with Kendall. Your phone buzzes on your lap, Julieâs contact lighting up the screen as Kendall and you sit up. She squeezes your hand one last time. âTalk to them. Then, come over to my place. Youâre staying the night with me and not your mom.â
You watch as Kendall gets up and walks away, leaving you in the sunflower field with Julieâs call still ringing. With a final sigh, you answer the phone.
---
Luke was pacing back and forth in the studio, waiting for Julie to get off the phone call. The door finally opens and Julie steps inside. Luke jumps her way, followed by Alex and Reggie who were all worriedly waiting to find out what exactly is going to happen.
Julie glares at Luke before nodding and relaxing her shoulders. âShe wants to talk to you.â
Lukeâs legs almost give out in relief. âIs she still on the phone?â
Julie shakes her head. âShe wants you to go to her. She said sheâs in âher spotâ, and that youâd understand what that meant.â
Lukeâs face lit up almost immediately. He knew exactly what that meant. You were in the sunflower field.
âWait, wait, wait.â Alex interrupts Lukeâs happiness. âHow are you going to get there? Itâs not like you can poof there, you donât really know exactly where she is, right?â
Alex had a point, but Luke knew he had to go. He had at least known the town you lived in, finding a sunflower field after that couldnât be that hard, could it?
He smirks to all his friend and jumps a few times on his feet. âWish me luck.â
The three of his friends all exchange different forms of worried glances before shouting âgood luckâ before Luke is gone.
âHeâs not going to find her, is he?â Reggie asks, crossing his arms in front of his chest. Alex claps him on the back before throwing his arm over the bassists shoulder.
âHeâll be lucky if he finds the town correctly.â The blond says and all three of them chuckle at their friendâs eager departure, yet happy to believe everything will be alright.
As long as Luke can find you.
---
Luke found the town, he had barely a problem there, the only real problem was the town was a lot bigger than he expected. He should have asked Julie to look up the sunflower field on her phone before he left. He didnât even have a phone. He didnât even know how to find or use a computer enough to even look for the sunflower field. Why couldnât you have been somewhere easier to find? Like the town hall in front of Luke. Or that coffee shop right next to the town hall. Or with Kendall, who is walking into the coffee shop.
Lukeâs eyes practically bug out of his head when he recognizes Kendall and heâs quick on his feet to follow after her with a smile. She was ordering when he pushes open the door, making the bell ring hard above the door. A lot of people jump at Lukeâs arrival, including Kendall, as they all look his way but quickly gets back to their own conversations. Except Kendall. She looks away from Luke for the briefest of seconds before her eyes are locked onto him again and wide.
âYou.â Kendall says, pointing at Luke and Lukeâs smile quickly falls when he sees her frown and eyes narrow.
Lukeâs words are rushed. âWhereâs the field?â
Kendall is closer, her pointed finger almost pushing into his chest. âYou!â
âKendall!â He puts his hands in the air, taking a few steps back until heâs pressed again the door behind him. He almost yells. Â âThe field!â
âBehind my house!â She yells back but doesnât move from her position. âBut you go and you make things right and you apologize for breaking my best friendsâ heart and you promise to never ever do it again or I will find you and I will make sure your ghost butt stays dead.â
âI will.â Luke promises her and Kendallâs hand falls a few seconds later and Luke can finally step away from the door, relief flooding through him.
âGood.â She nods.
The two of them stand in awkward silence for a moment before Luke clears his throat. âSo uh, you know then? Abo-about everything?â
Kendall lets out a soft laugh before nodding. âYou really messed up. Go fix it.â
Luke didnât need to be told twice.
---
After getting the exact directions from Kendall, Luke was standing in front of the Sunflower field, knowing you were somewhere amongst the flowers. He closes his eyes before starting through the field, looking for you.
He can see your head, poking up amongst the flowers. You were pacing back and forth, barely as tall as the flowers around you. Luke just watches for a moment, unsure what exactly he is going to say until your eyes flicker up, finding his surprisingly fast.
Your breath stills in your throat and you want to look away so you donât give away how much seeing Luke and knowing the truth hurts you, but you canât. Instead, you remain eye locked with him as he slowly comes closer, gently pushing aside the flowers to get by.
You canât make yourself say anything as Luke stops in front of you, his eyes softly locked onto yours. âHi.â He manages to breathe out but you stay silent. His fingers twitch as he fights his desire to touch you, to take your hand in his and hug you or do anything to beg for your forgiveness. Instead, he simply stares at you, wishing he put a little more thought into what he was going to say instead of leaving without thinking.
Luke could feel the tears begin to build in his eyes, âI messed up. I messed up so badly and I shouldnât have lied to you. I should have- I should have said something, told you the truth, told you anything. And I didnât. Iâm so sorry.â
It hurt to look at him. It hurt to be close to him. You wanted to yell at him, to put space between you both, to show him how much it hurt you to know everything was a lie.
But you couldnât.
In fact, you did the opposite.
Instead of yelling, you close the distance. Your chests meet as your hand fall on the back on his neck, pulling his lips into yours. Luke grips your waist, scared he was imagining it all, that he could let go and youâd slip through his fingers.
Time stopped in the small sunflower field as Luke and you lose yourselves in the kiss, gently pulling each other closer than you had ever been and loving every second of it.
When time moves again, your forehead rests on his, your eyes and his were closed as you wiped away a tear falling down your cheek. âI wanted to hate you.â you finally say, your voice was quiet and broke with your words. âI wanted to hate you so much.â Luke couldnât bring himself to open his eyes as he pressed his forehead against yours, no longer fighting his tears and resorts to wiping them as well. âI trusted you and you lied to me and you kept lying to me.â
âY/N-â he finally speaks but you shake your head and pull away.
You meet his eyes and barely muster a smile. âBut I canât hate you.â
Relief floods Lukeâs body as he releases a breath and blinks away his tears. His hand finds your cheek and his thumb drags across the wet streak on your skin. You lean into his touch and your eyes flutter close for the briefest of moments. âI love you.â You say, placing your hand onto his. âAnd it doesnât matter if you were Jerry or Luke, I think I loved you as both.â
Luke doesnât know what to say, thereâs only one thing he can say. âI love you too. I have for months now, and I didnât know what to do about it.â He knows no matter how great, how amazing and perfect this moment is, he needs to explain himself. You deserve that.
And so, as the two of you lay down on the sunflower field and watch the sky fade from a bright blue lit up by the sun to a dark blue illuminated by the stars, you listened to Luke explain everything. He started with everything about meeting you and the months since then and about Jerry. You listened closely, not wanting to interrupt Luke as he played with your fingers, apologizing every so often when he imagines how you must have felt.
After a while, the two of you run out of words to say. Youâve moved closer to each other, Lukeâs arm was stretched out and holding you as you were settled into his side, resting your head on his chest. His hand not wrapped around your body was still playing with your fingers, lacing them through his own as he smiles.
âI never thought I would see this.â He whispers, more to himself but with your closeness, you hear it. You hum and squeeze his hand before he returns the gesture along with a kiss on the top of your head. âSo where do we go from here?â
Lukeâs question catches you off guard. To be honest, you werenât sure. You both knew he had a long way to go before he earns your complete forgiveness, but he would spend the rest of his afterlife trying. That wasnât the only problem, however. He is a ghost, you are alive. You could never have a normal relationship, but as you lay here in his arms, you were certain of two things. The first was you didnât want normal, you just wanted him. The second was you were absolutely in love with him, and it didnât matter where you both went from here.
As long as you had your Jerry.
As long as you had your Luke.

red columbine (anxiety) â âcan you hold my hand? please?â for Alex and anyone because of course
Julieâs feet dragged beneath her, her pace gradually slowing the further they walked, and they were quickly losing light. The city silhouetted before them by the setting sun behind it, no longer shining green as it had that afternoon. Even Toto, usually full of boundless energy, had worn himself out and let Luke carry him. The small animal typically didnât find the stiff metal of Lukeâs arms all that comfortable.Â
It was testament to how much they had traveled today. The breaks became shorter and shorter as the day wore on. Everyone excitedly pushed on now that their goal was in sight.Â
However, over the past hour or so they appeared to be getting no closer. It left Alex to wonder just how massive this Emerald CIty must be.Â
âJulie?â Reggie hesitantly stepped in her path to force her to stop. She was far too nice to push him out of her way though she easily could. âWe should stop for now.â
âBut itâs right there.â She said through a stifled yawnâher words bleeding together slightlyâgesturing around Reggieâs shoulders. âWeâre so close. It's right there.â
âI know, Julie, I know. But you and Toto and Alex need to sleep. It wonât do you any good meeting the Wizard if youâre too tired to even properly speak."
She swayed on her feet, Reggieâs hands hovered by her shoulders ready to catch her if she fell. Or at least cushion her if Luke or Alex couldnât get there quick enough to catch her themselves since Reggieâs strength was unfortunately unpredictably unreliable. The three of them patiently waited where they were until Julie finally nodded.Â
Like clockwork they all moved starting work on the jobs theyâd all fallen into when it came to making camp. Julie cleared out an area big enough for them, Luke went to get Firewood while Reggie looked for something Julie and Toto could eat. Alex helped out where he could.Â
Soon enough theyâd eaten and Julie had fallen asleep, head resting on Reggieâs lap. His eyes darted between her and more fearfully to the small fire Luke tended to. Early on Reggie had avoided getting this close to the fire entirely but risked it more and more the closer to the Emerald city they had gotten. Drawn in by Julie's stories and songs.
âYou know,â Luke said, and the curious tone alone was enough to force Alexâs heavy eyes to stay open. âIf weâd pushed, we probably still could have made it to the city and at least found somewhere for Julie to have a proper bed to sleep on."
It's a thought that had crossed Alex's mind earlier but he was too much of a coward to say anything about. More than a littleâif perhaps rather guiltilyâgrateful to have what could end up being their last night together like this. It's not that he didn't want the Wizard's help or to keep his friends from getting the help they so desperately wanted either. But, there was no way things wouldn't change after tomorrow.
And what if the Wizard didnât agree to meet with them after all. Could he handle that sort of disappointment? Could Julie?
"Oh, guess I hadnât thought of that." Reggie softly said, pulling Alex out of his thoughts, before letting out a bitter laugh with his next words âThen again, how could I?â
Luke hummed thoughtfully, and Alex kept his mouth shut. Another thing he couldnât be brave enough to call either of them out on. Maybe he simply had less brains and heart than he thought he had before meeting the two of them.Â
All thoughts he could wrestle with another time. For now, he would try to focus on getting at least one last good nightâs sleep without having to worry. Secure in the knowledge Reggie and Luke would keep an eye out for all of them.Â
As always, Alex found himself waking up earlier than he would have liked. Even if he had been resting easier these past weeks traveling with Julie, Reggie, and Luke, his fears never truly quieted. However, unlike every other morning, Julie was already up sitting and facing the Emerald City as it slowly began to shine with the rising sun. The fire had been put out and Luke and Reggie were missing. Probably off fetching food and walking Toto who was also not to be seen.
The excitement of yesterday was replaced by a nervous uneasy energy. Julie ate her breakfast in a silence that not even Luke or Reggie dared to break. And when they finally started on their journey again, she hesitated to follow the Scarecrow and Tinman.Â
âYou all right?â Alex asked
âItâs all going to change.â She said, staring at the city in front of them. âIâve been so focused on getting home I didnât stop to think about what I might be leaving behind.â
Alex briefly blinked at her. He wasnât used to anyone openly expressing their fears with him. Let alone their fears matching up so well with his. So he struggled trying to figure out how to comfort her, searching for the right thing to say or do.Â
Thankfully, Julie was better adept at asking for help than he was. âCan you hold my hand? Please? I need some help being brave.âÂ
Of course, Julie was equally adept at completely shattering his worldview in entirely unexpected ways. Him? Help her be brave?
For her, heâd try.Â
âAbsolutely.â He said, extending out a paw. The two of them soon followed the others, facing the uncertainty of their future together.Â

Everyone was ecstatic. People were jumping, yelling, screaming the lyrics of Sunset Curve's songs. Their concerts were always the one to look forward to, and that's rich coming from you, seeing that you have been in almost all of them.
The fact that your boyfriend was their lead singer and guitarist was just a bonus. Their songs never failed to make someone dance like nobody's watching.
Luke's eye was locked on your as he sings his solo. the stupid smile never wiping off his face.
This interaction made girls close to you scream, thinking he was looking at them, when in fact he was looking at you and you only.
The venue was not that big but the people in the audience were loud enough to think otherwise. The stage was close to the crowd so Luke could walk towards you. eye contact never breaking, he was lost in your eyes and you were lost in his.
He honestly almost forgot the chords he was about to play and you almost forgot you were surrounded by roughly 30 girls.
He starts to walk slowly until he's in front of you. you had to bite your lip to stop you from bursting out laughing by the faces the girls made. their faces fell when he stood right in front of you.
but Reggie and Alex smiled at the utter joy radiating from you guys. From being best friends who completely denied their feelings for each other to not being afraid to show people that you guys were totally head over heels for each other.
When his solo ended, he didn't move an inch from where he stood. You guys continued to stare at each other lovingly, but when Alex beat his drum in a pattern you and Luke knew so much you snapped back to reality.
It was not the first time this happened. Luke has constantly forgotten about performing when you're there. and he wasn't ashamed of it in the tiniest bit.
you broke the stare and looked over luke's shoulder and saw Reggie and Alex giving you the look.
you rolled your eyes playfully and shook luke's shoulder lightly making him snap out of his daze.
"you're still in a show babe." you said to him, slightly yelling over the loud music.
his grin turned upwards even more if that was possible and moved to his original spot. but not before kissing your cheek.
The girl's eyes widen and look at you guys in surprise, jealousy and disgust. The disgust part was directed to you and you only.
but you didn't care. you didn't give two shits about them. your boy was up there doing the thing he loves most and that's all that matters.
Luckily for Luke the song was almost over, and when the lights started to dim, Alex was softly hitting the cymbal indicating the song's end.
"we're sunset curve! tell your friends!`` Reggie said to his mic before they bowed down and ran off stage. more like luke, ran off stage. Reggie, Alex and Bobby just shook their heads and followed after luke.
being faster than luke, you arrived first at the lounge area where they would hang out after a performance.
you were on the couch waiting for your best friends and boyfriend.
the door flung open, revealing a sweaty, grinning luke patterson. his eyes are practically sparkling at the sight of his girlfriend.
"babe!" Luke exclaimed, feeling more than happy to see you.
you stood up smiling at the joyful boy as he jogged towards you lifting you up and spinning you around making you laugh.
The action made you feel like the happiest girl on earth.
he puts you down and leaned his head down, softly connecting his lips with yours.
kissing luke is probably one of your favourite things to do. no matter how much you do it, the butterflies never go away or slow down.
"y/n, you need to stop coming to our shows dude." Bobby said, interrupting the sweet moment.
you and luke's head snapped towards bobby, "what why?" you asked, baffled, kind of offended at how his tone sounded.
"yeah why?" Luke sneered, as he wrapped a protective arm around your waist.
Bobby looked at you both in disbelief. "you're clearly distracting him!" he exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air.
a laugh made its way out of you, as you said, "oohhh."
Reggie and Alex snickered behind Bobby at Luke's face. He looked like he was about to smash a car.
"Relax, Bobby, we figured that out already." Alex assured as he pats Bobby's back.
Reggie sat down at the sofa beside Alex and said, "yeah, if Luke was too distracted, Alex would play an extra beat. it goes like this 'ting tung tung bap' " he said, trying to imitate the sound which made you laugh.
Alex turned to look at Reggie, "exactly." Alex said, clearly impressed at how well he imitated his beat.
"Yeah, it will take a lot to get rid of me." you said, smirking.
"yeah, over my dead body" luke hissed, he's basically shaking from annoyance.
"Chill, I was joking." Bobby panicked, recognising the hostility in Luke's voice. it was the same voice he used on guys who were hitting on you, and he's not even flirting!
you laughed and intertwined your fingers with luke's that was gripping your waist. He instantly calmed at your touch, the familiar feeling made his insides fuzzy.
he looked down at you, to see you're looking up smiling at him, eyes filled with adoration. the boy smiled beforeleaning down, "a pretty damn gorgeous distraction." he muttered before sealing your lips together.

Your body ached. That was the only thing you could feel. Actually, that was incorrect; you also had a headache and a snotty nose and you were pretty sure your temperature could boil water. In essence, you felt awful. Youâd toughed it out for as long as you could, making yourself a steaming hot tea and cozying into the sofa for the night. It wasnât making you feel any better. So, in a last ditch effort of saving your night, you dialled your boyfriend.
You smiled as his croaky, half-asleep voice came through your phone, murmuring your name.
âIâm sorry, did I wake you?â You asked, brows furrowed as you checked the time, gasping when it read 1:45am. You thought it was still closer to eleven.
âDonât worry about it, couldnât sleep anyway,â Luke lied and you frowned, though he couldnât see it through the screen.
âNo, itâs dumb. Iâm sorry I woke you up. Night, Luke.â You moved to hang up when Luke interrupted you.
âBaby, wait! Clearly somethingâs bothering you. Whatâs up?â You smiled despite your discomfort, your boyfriend always boosting your mood without even trying.
âNothing,â You pouted in your puddle of blankets, âJust feel sick.â You could feel Lukeâs pity without him saying anything and werenât sure whether to be indignant or grateful.
âCan you stay awake for twenty more minutes, love?â
âI guess so, why?â You asked, turning the TV back on as something to keep you from sleeping.
âI love you,â Was all he said, hanging up on you abruptly. You smiled softly to yourself, willing your eyes to stay open as you tried to focus on the sitcom in front of you.
You were just dozing off when you heard your apartment door unlocking and the brief shuffling of feet in the entryway. Your grin brightened, the familiar butterflies returning to your chest, even after months of being with Luke. The man in questioned approached you quietly, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead as you looked up at him.
âLuke, itâs 2 am, what are you doing here?â You asked despite the obvious answer, opening your shield of blankets for him to crawl onto the sofa with you. He made you wait, tipping out his reusable shopping bag onto the coffee table in front of you. There lay a pint of ice cream, tea bags, painkillers, and your favourite chocolate. Suddenly you werenât sure if the heat on your face was fever or blush. Silently you held your arms out, and Luke dove into them with all the enthusiasm of a child, peppering your faces with all the kisses he could manage.
âCouldnât let my girl be sick on her own,â He mumbled, nuzzling himself into the crook of your neck, eliciting a bout of giggles from you.
âMy very own Prince Charming,â You grinned, pecking his temple. After a gratuitous moment of cuddling Luke peeled himself off you, taking on the role of concerned caretaker. He was quick to dart into the kitchen, turning the kettle on for your tea and grabbing a spoon for the ice cream heâd bought. Sitting himself in the vacant spot next to you he fixed his focus onto the TV.
âWhat are we watching?â He asked, pulling the lid off the ice cream tub for you.
âHow I Met Your Mother, Iâve just reached season seven.â Luke gasped dramatically, holding his hands over his chest in faux outrage.
âYou continued without me? How could you?â You laughed at his accusatory tone, shrugging your shoulders.
âIâm sorry, Lukey. You have to forgive me though, Iâm sick,â You punctuated the statement with a pathetic cough, smiling as Luke easily settled down.
You watched in silence for a bit, both giggling at the stupid jokes. After a while you felt Luke looking at you seriously, but chose not to think much of it, continuing to tune in to the show. When he pulled out a thermometer, you raised an eyebrow. Luke wasnât usually one to be so prepared, but you let him rest it on your tongue nonetheless. When it read a concerningly high number Luke frowned, silently popping the painkillers out of their packaging, feeding you with the insistence of a fed up mother hen.
âWhy arenât you a nurse?â You joked, swallowing the medication with a mouthful of melted ice cream, âRockstar be damned.â
âOnly for you, love.â
âThatâs not true, Iâve seen you fretting over Reggie,â You laughed, and Luke couldnât help but join you.
âThatâs fair. Youâre my favourite, though.â
âHow unexpected.â You craned your neck to press a kiss to his jaw, revelling in the dumb grin that crept onto his face.
You both settled into silence, you leant into Lukeâs side, his hands rubbing soft circles into your thigh. You could feel yourself drifting in and out of sleep, never quite able to stay in it for one reason or another. The blanket was too hot, you were cold without it, your head hurt. Nothing was quite right and all you wanted to do was sleep for as long as humanly possible.
âLuke?â You whispered, in case he was already asleep.
âYes, love?â He replied, shifting his position to look down at you. You faltered for a moment, overwhelmed with the pure adoration in his eyes.
âWill you play for me?â Luke was up in a second, arranging you on the sofa. You giggled as he manhandled you, lying you down and wrapping you tightly in your blanket so you couldnât escape. You teased him about being his captive audience as he tuned his guitar quickly, never being so grateful for his perfect pitch.
Without anymore holdups Luke began to play, plucking softly at the strings to create a melody that filled the air of your little apartment. His playing was like a siren call, pressing weights on your eyelids until you could barely stand to keep them open. You watched him while you could, admiring the way the faint light from the kitchen lamp made him look like an Adonis, his hair illuminated in gold and his features accentuated by the shadows. You couldnât believe he was your boyfriend. Luke Patterson, heartthrob of Julie and the Phantoms was your dorky, adoring boyfriend who would make supermarket trips in the middle of the night for you. Who had your favourite ice cream memorised and your key attached to his, so he could come see you whenever he missed you (which was pretty much always).
Despite the various aches and pains that had overtaken your body, the only thing you could feel as you drifted off to sleep was the burning ball of light in your chest, a chemical mixture of joy and love and gratitude, overtaking your senses one by one until you were asleep, dreams filled of beautiful images of your boyfriend.
When you woke up the next morning, you figured out it wasnât morning at all. Luke had evidently switched off your phoneâs alarm after youâd fallen asleep, and it was well into early afternoon when youâd arisen. To his credit though, the sleep had done you some good, and you felt much less like walking death after an intense sleep.
You untangled yourself from the knit blanket, your feet wobbly on the hard wood floors. You had serious post-nap daze, and wandered through your flat looking for your boyfriend. The poorly made sheets on your actual bed told you where Luke slept last night â or this morning, more accurately â you smiled at the way heâd arranged your stuffed animals.
Stuck to the fridge under your New York City magnet was a note from Luke, explaining he had to go to rehearsal but heâd be back later to check on you. You pulled the paper off, travelling back to your room to put the note in your âLukeâ box, adding to the collection of notes and drawings heâd given you inconsequentially that youâd held onto.
As the afternoon ticked by youâd gotten onto your computer, figuring that although you were still ill you should try and get something productive done. You were armed with your box of tissues as you got started on an assignment you had due at the end of the week, and slipped your headphones on to get into the headspace.
You screamed as a pair of arms wrapped around you from behind, quickly dissolving into giggles as you realised it was only Luke, back from rehearsal.
âYour voice still sounds scratchy, baby, how are you feeling?â He asked, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
âBetter, promise. Tomorrow Iâll probably go to class if I get another good nightâs sleep.â
âThatâs my girl.â He grinned, and you felt your insides melting all over again. You closed the laptop, knowing you werenât going to get much more done now that Luke was with you.
You spent the evening together, ordering in pizza from the place around the corner and getting slightly wine drunk as Luke told you all about his earlier rehearsal and the antics of his band. He sang you part of the new song he and Julie had written and you applauded dramatically, only stopping when you broke into a coughing fit.
âWanna watch something?â He asked when you grew tired again, cuddling up to him like a cat.
âBarbie?â You asked hopefully, looking up at him with wide eyes. Luke sighed dramatically, but you knew he was just pretending not to like the animated movies youâd grown up on.
âOnly if itâs Island Princess,â He offered and you nodded enthusiastically.
The two of you settled in for the movie night, Luke getting much more into the movie as it went on, as he always did. By the end you were singing duets â your voice considerably less pleasing than his, especially due to your illness â Luke taking on the role of the prince letting you be Ro.
As the credits rolled you felt your eyes closing again, and you felt eerily like you did as a younger girl, falling asleep on the couch after a Barbie movie. This was better though, because now you had Luke next to you. Heâd taken his role as big spoon extremely seriously, and had all but become one with the couch, pressing into the back as he wrapped his arms around you tightly.
You shifted your position to face him, watching his face relax into contentedness as he tried to doze off to sleep. Feeling you watch him he cracked one eye open, mouth producing a dumb grin that made butterflies erupt in your chest.
âWhat?â He asked, but you got the distinct impression he knew exactly what you were thinking.
âNothing,â You lied, but gave in easily, âYouâre pretty.â
âYouâre pretty too. Now go to sleep.â You nodded, pressing a kiss to the corner of his mouth.
âKay, goodnight Lukey. I love you.â
âLove you too, my girl. So much.â His answer was muffled by him pressing his face into your hair to pull you closer, but you couldnât wipe the smile from your face even as sleep enveloped you.

So this idea came to me while I couldnât sleep last night, I've not used any names so you can imagine whoever when you read it although I originally had Steve in mind.
You lay there content under the covers, your new puppy snuggled up next to you already asleep and the only thing you were missing now was your boyfriend. He had said he wouldn't be long but that seemed like forever ago even though it probably wasn't, just you over tired brain making it seem like it.
When you finally heard him enter the room, you couldn't help but smile and expect him to slide into the bed next to you. Although that never comes and as you lift your head off the pillow to see him staring down at you unamused. "And where am I supposed to sleep?" He asks, arms crossed over his chest.
"Right here" you mumble, your hand patting the space of his usual side of the bed.
"In that tiny little gap? I thought we had discussed this, she's not to sleep on the bed" he counters, referencing your earlier talk (argument?) about the puppy on the bed.
"I never agreed to that" you point out, "and besides she's comfortable do we have to move her" you pout up at him, hoping that he'd break as he usually did and give into you.
"Yes come on" he confirms, getting her attention and encouraging her to follow him to the specially bought, very expensive, dog bed.
"Meanie" you mumble as he finally gets into bed with you.
"Oh behave, you get too warm to sleep with just me in the bed, imagine how much warmer it'll be with a dog" he tries to reason with you but you still don't want to agree with him. "Trust me you'll thank me in the morning" he yawns, settling down and closing his eyes.
You fight sleep for a while knowing how quickly he normally falls asleep and when his breath seems to have evened out is when you call for her but you were wrong.
"No" he warns, surprising you even though you shouldn't be. He knows you well, too well, to know that you would try something like that. "I know you feel sorry for her but look she's already asleep so that very expensive bed that you picked out specifically for her must be comfortable" he tries to be the voice of reason again and you can feel yourself giving in or maybe you were too tired to argue.
"But she's just a baby she shouldn't be sleeping on the floor" you pout at him again.
"She's fine, now come on, let's get some sleep ourselves," he soothes as you mumble something about tomorrow and he just smiles at your stubbornness. He's also slightly amused at how easily you've fallen asleep as soon as you've closed your eyes.
Bonus: He lasts a week before he caves from your persistence, letting 'your baby' sleep on the bed.

After the show
Pairing: alive!Reggie Peters x reader
WC: 3.2k
Summary: After being away for a few months you were finally back in Los Angeles, just in time to watch your best friend Julie perform with her band. The first time you got to see them live and get to meet them, including the cute bass player.
A/N: Here's something new which probably nobody still counted on getting from me hahah but writing has always helped me cope with some stuff and even though I hadn't pictured myself returning to this, here I am, dealing with life problems by escaping into fanfictions. So, I hope you guys still read it and like it!!
It had been a while since you saw Julie last. You had lived with your dad last semester while your mom had to go abroad for work. That left you at the other side of the country, a six-hour flight away from your best friend and your normal life.
Of course, staying at your dad's wasn't the worst. You got along great. One of the only plus sides of that move was that you could spend more time together, but you also had to get used to a new place and new people. And you missed your friends dearly. Daily Facetime calls to Julie and Flynn kept you going, but those declined in frequency as well. Everybody got busy, so these past few weeks it had been, at most, one call a week. With your upcoming move back home to California, Julie's successful debut with her band and Flynn managing them, there hadn't been a lot of time. Until now.
You were finally back in California, basking in the Los Angeles sun. The hot sand beneath your feet warmed your soul. A content smile graced your face while you were waiting for Julie and Flynn to join you. This felt like home. Definitely.
Your serene moment got interrupted as someone practically fell into you, making you tumble forward a few steps. You were able to keep standing with arms still wrapped around you. With them came a squeak and the call of your name before the figure, which turned out to be Julie, came around to your front. As soon as you saw that familiar face you pulled her into your arms again. Yep, home. "Oh my God, I missed you so much!", you said, squeezing her once more.
"Same! I can't believe you're back! Finally!" The two of you let go of each other and settled onto the sand. "Tell me everything!"
"Well, you already know basically everything," you laughed. "I mean, the last time we talked wasn't even 24 hours ago."
"I know!" Julie took ahold of your shoulders and shook you. "Way too long! I need a play-by-play of your flight."
"Uhm ok, so, when I got to the airport..." And so you told Julie everything that happened at the airport, on your flight, at the reunion with your mom, the ride home, just everything up until the point where she had joined you at the beach. "When is Flynn coming by the way? Shouldn't she be here already?" You looked around hoping to catch a glimpse of the girl amidst the other beach-goers.
"Oh yes, I forgot to say! She actually had to hang back for a bit. She was able to get us a gig tonight, totally last minute, so she had to organize some stuff, but you'll see her later when you come to the show."
"Oh, so I'm invited, huh?" You bumped her shoulder.
"Of course, you are! We made sure to have you put on the guestlist. Then you can also meet the rest of the band! They're so excited to meet you. I mean, Flynn and I always talk about you, so they're always on us about when they actually get to meet you." She laughed at the dorkiness of her friends.
She could still picture the first time you were brought up in conversation in front of them. Flynn had been late to watching the practice and when she finally did come in, she looked a little distraught. Julie had asked her what was wrong, but didn't expect that the reason for her distress was actually your distress. You had just broken up with your partner who was not ready to commit to long-distance, even just for a while, so you had called your friends in tears. The boys had immediately told Julie and Flynn to not worry about practice and call you back and be there for you. Since then, you had been topic of conversation a few times.
"Actually," she continued, "Reggie could not shut up about you being at the show today since we found out it's happening, so you can't disappoint my bassist by not showing up." Julie wiggled her eyebrows at you. That's what you get for one time mentioning that you thought the dark-haired bassist was cute and asking about him. You had kept up with Julie's band, watched all their music videos and the private photos and videos that Julie had sent you.
You felt a warmth spread over your neck and cheeks, slighty embarassed by the teasing. "Oh please, Julie, shut up." You chuckled and looked out at the waves crashing onto the beach. "Of course, I'll be there. I'm super excited to meet the band, too. And to see you perform live!" Looking back at her, you saw the spark in her eyes that had been lost for so long after her mother's death, but there it was, portraying her excitement for making and sharing her music.
The moment got interrupted by an alarm sound coming out of Julie's pocket. "Oh ok, that's me. I actually have to run now," she said while standing up and silencing her phone. "I need to prepare for the show, but I'll text you all the details and will see you there tonight! Ok, bye, love you!" She shouted over her shoulder while already walking away in a hurry. You laughed to yourself at her behavior. It hadn't changed in all this time. You stayed at the beach for a few more minutes, before deciding to go home and get ready yourself.
You looked in awe at the line in front of the club the band was playing at tonight. So many people were here to see your friend perform. It was crazy. And you actually got to walk past all these people to tell the bouncer your name and be let in before all of them. The whole experience was so surreal, but it was everything you had ever hoped for your friend. Inside was already pretty packed as well but Flynn had texted you where to find her, so you made your way through the crowd to the roped-off area at the side which was slightly elevated. You once again gave your name to the woman standing there. She scanned her clipboard before she moved aside to let you in.
You spotted Flynn pretty easily in her eye-catching outfit. She was sitting in the far corner, closest to the stage, typing away on her phone. You walked up to her and tapped her on the shoulder. "Hey there, stranger!"
She turned around quickly. Her eyes widened when she saw you standing there before she jumped out of her seat with a wide smile on her face. "You're here!" She pulled you into a hug. "It's so good to see you! Wait, let me look at you!" You were pushed an arms-length away, so that she could check you out from head to toe. "And you look amazing! Perfect! Show-stopping!"
"Well, I hope not. I did come here to watch the show after all." You took the seat next to Flynn's, catching up with her until the lights dimmed and the show started. You and Flynn immediately got up from your seats as the stage lights came on and illuminated your friend and the rest of the band. Julie's gaze quickly flickered up to where you and Flynn were standing before she started playing the first notes of the song. Actual tears sprung to your eyes as you watched your friend live her dream. You were so proud of her.
You watched her interact with the other band members while performing. They all seemed to have so much fun on stage and you could clearly see their passion for music shining through. More than once did your eyes glance over to the bassist. You had to admit that Reggie looked even better in person than on the screen. He had to know what he was doing when he put on that leather jacket for the performance. Damn.
When the show ended, you actually felt out of breath from all the dancing and jumping and singing along you did with Flynn. The whole concert was so much fun and you could not get rid of the smile on your lips. "So, I am in charge of getting you to Julie's for the after-show party," Flynn turned to you and explained.
"Wait, there's an actual after show party at Julie's? And her dad's fine with it?"
"Yeah, it's just a few people and as long as we clean up and don't make too much noise, he's chill. So, you coming?" Flynn held out a hand for you to take and then skillfully maneuvered you through the crowd. The ride to Julie's turned out to be Flynn's mom who greeted you with a hug. You three chatted for the whole ride, mainly about your last semester and the show, before she dropped you off at Julie's. Before driving off she reminded Flynn to be respectful and considerate of the people living in the house to which Flynn rolled her eyes, but promised to be on her best behavior.
After her mom was gone, she turned to you. "Ok, come on, we need to get some snacks and drinks out before the others arrive." She led you to the garage, which you hadn't entered in what felt like years, and pulled the doors wide open. The lights turned on and as you looked around you realized that not much had changed, except for some trinkets being strewn about here and there. You quickly helped Flynn get some drinks out of the mini fridge and onto the table as well as some snacks when the first few people already started arriving. You easily recognized Nick, one of the first to enter the garage. He hadn't changed much from when you last saw him, still had the same Golden Retriever look to him. Carrie was also easy to spot. She spotted the two of you instantly and came over to greet you. From your calls with Julie and Flynn you were already aware that the feud had ended and there was some kind of friendship blossoming now.
"Hi, girls!" She greeted both of you with a hug before she turned to you. "It's nice to see you! How long have you been back?"
"Oh, just today actually. Been quite a busy day." You made some more small talk with her while other guests arrived and Flynn went off to greet them. It wasn't long until the conersations stopped to greet the arriving band with a round of hollers and applause. The guitarist, Luke, you knew, basked in the applause, entering the garage with raised arms and a grin, ready to high-five his friends that were waiting for him. Julie, Reggie and Alex followed. They had the same grin on their faces, the performance high, but passed up on the high-fives.
Carrie excused herself, but you didn't stay standing alone for long as Julie spotted you and pulled Alex and Reggie over to you. "Guys, I want you to meet someone," she exclaimed and proudly introduced you.
Aley was the first to speak up. He had a nice smile on his face. "Hi! It's really nice to meet you! I'm Alex. Julie has told us so much about you, it's like meeting a legend." Julie hit him in the arm for that comment. "Hey! What? It's true! You're always talking about her like she's a celebrity or some kind of myth. No wonder Reggie-" He got cut off by another hit in the arm, this time from the bassist. "Alright, fine, I'll stop stalking! Anyway, nice to meet you. I'm gonna go over there to my boyfriend." He turned and walked right into the arms of a long-haired guy on the other side of the garage who had been engaged in a conversation with Luke.
You turned back to the other two still standing with you, holding back a laugh. Your gaze fell onto the one who had yet to introduce himself. His eyes were still trained on Alex' back, but as he turned towards you, he realized that your focus was already on him and his cheeks turned red. It only took him a moment to regain his cool though. "I'm Reggie. Nice to meet you!" His eyes trailed your body once over. He shot you a smile. "I can't believe you're even prettier in real life than in the pictures." That earned him another smack against the arm from Julie. He yelped. "Hey! That's not how you treat your bassist!"
"Whatever, go get Luke, I want to introduce him, too!" Rubbing his arm he left, pouting, to get the guitarist. As soon as Reggie said a few words to him, he came jumping right over and put his arms around Julie's shoulder, placing a kiss on her cheek. She chuckled a little at the display of affection. "Luke, I wanna introduce you to-"
He cut her off, saying your name himself. "You talk so much about her. How could I not know?!" He smiled brightly and pulled you into a hug. "Great to finally meet you! How did you like the show?"
"Ah, it was amazing! You all looked so great out there! I had so much fun and everything sounded great! You even played my favorite song," you admitted.
"Oh, and which one is that?" You told him your favorite song, him nodding along to your answer. "Yeah, great taste you got there!" He looked around the room as a group of guys called his name. "Alright, I gotta go entertain for a bit, but we'll definitely catch up soon!" He promised with a wink and another kiss to Julie's cheek.
"Is he always like that?" You asked her.
"Most of the time." She nodded before breaking out into a laugh which you joined.
At some later point in the evening you found yourself on the couch with a drink in your hand. Reggie let himself fall into the seat next to you. "Hi there!" You smiled at him.
"Hi!" The small smile he gave you made him look even cuter. "Sitting here all by yourself?"
"Well, I was just waiting for you to come keep me company."
"Oh." That took him by suprise. "Here I am!"
You tilted your head to the side a bit, taking him in some more. He was still wearing the leather jacket you liked so much during the show with a simple white shirt below it and a pair of jeans. "I really liked to watch you play. I wanted to tell you that before, but you left so quickly."
"Ah, thank you! Yeah." He rubbed his neck as his cheeks turned pink. "Sorry that I left so quickly. I actually did want to talk to you some more! Julie told us you were coming to watch us play, so I- we put some extra effort into making this show amazing!"
"You certainly did! How long have you been playing bass for?"
"So long I can barely remember. I learned the guitar first though," he admitted.
"So you play the guitar as well, wow! I've never had any musical ability. Julie's mom tried to teach me to play the piano a long time ago, but it was completely hopeless." You chuckled at the memory. It was right in this room so many years ago.
"Maybe the piano just wasn't the right instrument for you? I can teach you some guitar if you want. Or bass, if you prefer."
"Alright, I'll hold you to it, but really don't get your hopes up. It might end in an absolute disaster," you joked. "Let me actually give you my number, so we can set a date."
"Oh yeah, totally!" He pulled out his phone and opened it to a new contact. You put your number in and called yourself right after saving it.
"Now I have your number as well." You smiled at him before saving the number into your phone as 'that cute bassist'. You hoped he had seen the name but when you looked back at him his eyes were trained on your face.
An hour moved by as you kept sitting on that couch, talking and laughing with Reggie. Luke, Alex and Julie had each come over for a few minutes but left fairly quickly to give the two of you some space.
"Hey, do you want to get some fresh air? It's getting a bit stuffy in here," you suggested to which Reggie agreed. The doors had been closed by now to keep the noise from reaching the neighbors, so that you hadn't noticed it'd gotten a bit chilly. Before you could say or do anything Reggie already took off his jacket and laid it over your shoulders. You pulled it on tighter as you took a seat on the stairs, the smell of the leather enveloping you. It smelled good, you imagined Reggie to smell distinctly of the jacket as well.
"Can I ask you a question?" He asked warily.
"Of course." You assured him, placing a hand on his thigh.
His eyes fell from your face to your hand. "Are you flirting with me? Like, are you actually hitting on me?" His hopeful eyes found yours again as your smile turned wider.
"Yes, Reggie, I have been all evening."
"Oh, ok, good, so I didn't misinterpret anything." He laughed a little and placed his hand over yours that was still lying on his thigh. "You see, I think you're really pretty. I've thought that since Julie and Flynn showed us pictures of you for the first time. And now I know, you're really funny, too, and I'm just totally blown away by you, so I was wondering if you wanted to go out with me?"
"I would like that a lot, yes. You lnow, I've had this little crush on you for a while now that Julie and Flynn have been making fun of me for. There's something about you that really draws me in." You bit your lip, taking Reggie's attention from your eyes to your lips.
"So, uhm, can I kiss you right now?" He asked.
Your lips spread into a wider smile as you shuffled closer to him on the stairs. "Yes, Reggie, I'd love that." There wasn't much of a gap between your faces anymore now, but he took his sweet time letting you feel his breath on your lips before finally connecting them. His lips moved softly against yours. He squeezed your hand on his thigh and brought the other one up to cradle your face.
You pulled back a little to catch your breath. When there was a crash from inside the garage your gaze quickly flicked to the door to check if anyone was coming out. When nobody did, you turned back to Reggie. "Do you wanna go back inside or keep doing this?" You asked him, hoping for the latter.
"I think, I'd rather stay out here a bit longer." He smiled before catching your lips in another kiss under the starlit sky.

It just hit me that the boys all have graves somewhere... Do you think they've gone there? Has Julie? How do they feel about how and where they were buried?
sorry this took so long to respond to! I'm not sure if you meant it as a writing prompt or just a point of discussion.... but i wrote 2500 words on it anyway. Hope you enjoy!
Special thanks to @weneedglitter for her math and naming assistance :)
Send me prompts to help me reach my 2024 writing goal!
Itâs sort of an accident, at the beginning. Reggie doesnât mean to be looking.
He doesnât really mean to be looking for anything, even if he sounded really suspicious and like he was a total lying liar face when he told Julie and the guys he was just âgoing for a stroll.â But honestly, itâs a coincidence more than anything that his stroll takes him to the bike rental place on the beachfront that used to be his house. And itâs a coincidence that the pimpled teen working the counter has that dayâs mail laid out in front of him for all the world to see. And itâs a coincidence that in said pile of mail is a letter from Evergreen Cemetery addressed to âArchibald Peters or Current Resident.â
He doesnât actually read the letter (his invisibility these days is spotty at best, and he doesnât think committing felony mail theft would be much smarter of an idea than making an envelope float in mid-air anyway). He doesnât know that the letter has anything more to say than âHey you, know any dead people? Send âem our way!â
He doesnât know it has anything to do with him.
But he goes home anywayâ because home is Julieâs house, nowâ and slides Carlosâs laptop out of its super functional hiding place under his pillow, and looks up the address for Evergreen Cemetery.
And then he poofs into the kitchen and says, âRay? Will you drive me somewhere?â
The car ride is quiet, mostly because Ray said, âYou wanna tell me where weâre going?â when they got in the car, and Reggie said, âMmhmm!â all high-pitched and obvious, and then never elaborated, and so trying to make other conversation seems rude. He just gives directions, and hums along to the radio, and Ray drives them to the cemetery where Reggieâs pre-ghost body may or may not be buried.
Thatâs the weirdest part of all of this. Not the mail theft or the bike shop or the idea that Reggieâs parents might have put him somewhere other than the Peters Family plot in Orange County where his grandparents and Great Aunt Barb are buried, but the fact that there is a body, very much dead and scientifically identifiable as his, lying under six feet of dirt somewhere.
He has a body. Now, currently, in most ways even an alive one. And yeah, heâs worked pretty damn hard to get this one, but it still feels really weird that thereâs just another one⊠out there.
âReggie?â Ray asks as he slows the car along the gravel driveway of the cemetery. âWhatâŠ?â
He doesnât finish his question, which is probably a good thing because Reggieâs not sure he has an answer. âCould youâŠ?â he asks instead, staring down at his hands in his lap so he wonât have to look Ray in the eye. âUm. Would you maybe mind going in there and asking if⊠or, uh, whereâŠâÂ
He trails off, unable to finish his own question either.
Ray makes a soft sound, somewhere between a hum and a sigh, and nods once before giving Reggie a comforting pat on the knee and getting out of the car.
Heâs in there a long time. Long enough for Reggie to get all squirmy and start to feel bad for dragging him into this.
He can only imagine the conversation going on in there: Hi, can you please point me to the grave of a seventeen-year-old who died twenty-five years ago? No, no, Iâm not related to him, nor do I have any legitimate connection to him that I can offer you as an explanation for why Iâm asking. Please do not ask any follow-up questions.
Jeez. What was Reggie even thinking bringing Ray all the way out here, just on a hunch? As soon as he gets back to the car, Reggie should just tell him to take them back home.
But itâs only a few minutes later that the office door opens and Ray emerges, a piece of paper in one hand. He shakes hands with an older white guyâ the manager, Reggie guesses, or whatever the term is for people in charge of the little office at a cemeteryâ and then heads back over to Reggie.
He gets back in the car, shuts the door, and sits heavily in the driverâs seat without buckling his seat belt or shifting the car out of park. Reggie opens his mouth to say something, closes it again. Shifts uncomfortably in his seat.
Ray hands him the piece of paper. âYou tell me what you wanna do, mijo.â
Itâs a listâ of names and plots, next to a handy-dandy little map of the cemetery. Three are highlightedâ Reginald Peters. Alexander Mercer. Lucas Patterson.
Reggie shivers, the edges of the paper crinkling in his tight grip. âThese are⊠Jeez. Weâre all here?â
âSeems so.â Ray puts a comforting hand on his shoulder. âIt was sort of a long shot, but I figured Iâd ask while I was in there.â
Reggie stares at his nameâ at his friendsâ namesâ just three lines on a list of ghosts.
He points at the plot number next to his name. âGuess weâre going here then?â
Itâs not a far walk. Reggie leads the way, squinting at the map, while Ray follows politely behind. Ray doesnât berate him or even comment when they get lost, and Reggie only gets them lost three and a half times. Eventually, they find it: a modest tombstone in a far corner of the graveyard, neatly kept with a still-fresh bouquet of lilies propped up against it.
The tombstone reads:
Reginald Alastair Peters
August 18, 1977â July 22, 1995
Beloved Son
Loving Brother
Cherished Bandmate
âOh,â Reggie whispers, reaching out a tentative hand to touch the last line of lettering. He canât imagine his parents choosing to spend extra money on that particular engraving, not without some serious coercion, but the only other option isâŠ
âSomeoneâs been here recently,â Ray says, voice reverent and yet too loud, all of a sudden, in the otherwise silence. He reaches around Reggie to pick up the flowers and place them gently atop the headstone. âSo your parents might still live nearby.â
âMaybe,â Reggie whispers, though he highly doubts his parents had anything to do with the bouquet. With effort, he tears his gaze away from his grave and down to the map in his hands. âUm. Can weâ?â
He cuts off, swallowing against the lump in his throat, and instead points wordlessly at the plot numbers for his two best friends.
âOf course.â Ray puts a hand on his shoulderâ warm, solid, reassuringâ and takes the map with the other. âMay I?â
Reggie lets it go with relief and wipes his sweaty hands on his pants. The walk between graves will give him a good chance to clear his head, and heâs way too distracted to follow a map without getting them lost way more than three and a half times.
But Ray only takes a few steps before he stops and frowns down at the map. He looks up again, turns a slow circle, and walks just a few feet before stopping again, the map falling to his side. âOh. Well.â
Reggie goes to see what heâs looking at, and his breath catches in his throat.
Thereâs a good bit of space between them, but the next tombstone over from Reggieâs belongs to Alex. He continues down the line, and sure enough, the next one down from that is Lukeâs.
Theyâre all distinctly differentâ Lukeâs is the biggest of the three, Alexâs has a Bible quote snaked along the sideâ but theyâre all adorned with fresh flowers, and they all have the same phrase tacked onto the end of their epitaphs:
Cherished Bandmate.
Cherished Bandmate.
Cherished Bandmate.
A cold feeling seeps through Reggieâs bones, not unlike the time he and Luke were playing hide and seek and he won by curling up inside the refrigerator.
âI think I wanna go home now,â Reggie says slowly, feeling shivery and stuck and ghostly in the worst way as he stands at the point of the triangle of his and his best friendsâ graves.
âOf course,â Ray says, his voice muffled like heâs speaking through water or from very far away. âIâll go get the car.â
But Reggieâs already poofed out.
***
He doesnât intend to bring it up again. Because heâs not entirely sure Luke and Alex would want to know. And the last thing he wants to do is assume his friends are at the same place on the same journey regarding their life, death, and rebirth as he is.
He doesnât want to hurt their feelings if heâs wrong about his theory. He doesnât want to make them sad if heâs right.
But apparently Reggieâs not as good at concealing his own feelings as heâd like to thinkâ even though Ray doesnât say anything, and Julie at least seems convinced by Reggieâs âwe were running errandsâ story, less than two days has gone by when she informs him that the jig is, in fact, up.
Heâs sitting cross-legged on the couch in the studio, eating a bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream very slowly because Ray made him promise he wouldnât drip any on the sofa cushions.
Alex is out skateboarding with Willie. Luke is out âchaperoningâ (read: mooching off of) Carlos and his friendsâ laser tag party. Julie was ostensibly doing homework, which is why Reggie had taken his ice cream out to the garage, but now the doors open and Julie bounds in to join him, plopping next to him on the couch with a warm (if slightly mischievous) smile.
âHey there, you,â she says expressively, poking him in the arm.
Reggie blinks, slowly drawing the spoon out of his mouth. âHi, Julie.â
âWe both know Iâm not very good at beating around the bush,â she says, hands in her lap, âso Iâm just gonna cut to the chase. The boys tell me youâre sad, and while at first I tried to convince them that maybe just not everyone thinks the 2002 Scooby-Doo movie is as funny as they do and thatâs why you were a little quiet during movie night, the more I thought about it the more I agreed that you havenât been your usual amazing chipper self⊠lately⊠So, uh. You know. You know you can talk to me about anything, right?â
âI know,â Reggie says, nodding, because he does know, and clutches his bowl of ice cream to his chest for some comfort. âI, um⊠Iâm not⊠sad, I just⊠Okay, so you know how your dad and I ran some errands the other day and I came back early because I didnât wanna have to listen to his sad Dad Rock the whole drive home and he didnât have a single good CD in the car?â
Julie nods.
âWell, I actually sorta made all that up. We went to see where the guys and I are buried.â
Julieâs face falls, her eyes going wide. âOh. Wow.â
âAnd I didnât say anything,â Reggie continues, âbecause I didnât really know how I felt about it yet. And I didnât know how Luke and Alex would feel. I didnât know if theyâd wanna know.â
âOf course we would, bro.â
Reggie felt the spark alighting in his chest a split second before Luke spoke, so the sudden arrival of his friends doesnât startle him. He ducks his chin, staring into his ice cream so he doesnât have to see if theyâre mad at him.
âReggieâŠâ Julie puts a hand on his knee. âYou didnât do anything wrongâ this is a really complicated situation to navigate. Itâs just⊠we didnât even know you were looking.â
âI wasnât,â Reggie promises, but he doesnât know how to explain himself beyond that. He sets his bowl down on the coffee table and slowly raises his eyes to meet his friendsâ gazes. âWeâre all together. The three of us, ourâ weâre not buried with our families.â
Lukeâs and Alexâs faces go through several expressions before settling on twin looks of determination. âGood,â Luke says. âThatâs how it should be.â
âWill you go back with us?â Alex asks. âTake a look all together?â
In the moment that Reggie hesitates, Julie takes his hand in hers and gives it a warm, reassuring squeeze.
Reggie takes a deep breath, feeling it whistle through live, healthy lungs, and reaches out his other hand. Luke takes it and offers his hand to Alex, who joins hands with Luke and Julie to complete the circle. When the ghosts who arenât quite ghosts anymore poof out, they carry Julie with them, until all four members of Julie and the Phantoms stand solemn but supported in front of Reggieâs grave.
They take it in. The epitaph. The flowers, a bit crumpled from yesterdayâs rain but nowhere near wilting. The edge of Alexâs headstone just visible in their peripheral vision, and Lukeâs just beyond it.
âWe are all together,â Alex says in awe.Â
Luke shakes his head. âWhy would our parentsâ?â
A voice behind them says, âI insisted.â
They spin around. Reggie didnât hear anyone approaching, and yet standing just a few feet back, dark sunglasses obscuring his expression, is Trevor Wilson, three bunches of fresh wildflowers tucked in the crook of his arm.
He nods toward the grave behind them. âThey were gonna take you halfway across the state, and the Mercers wanted Alex cremated, and I wasnât even invited to the funerals but I pitched a fit. Told them Iâd pay for everythingâ the plots, the services, the upkeepâ if only theyâd keep you all⊠intact. And together.â
Reggieâs heart does an Olympics-worthy gymnastics routine inside his chest. âYou added the bandmate line?â he guesses.
Trevor shrugs a little sheepishly. âI snuck it in on the paperwork. Donât think Lukeâs dad ever forgave me.â
âYeah, well, my dad canââ Luke starts to say, and then trails off, shoving his hands in his pockets so itâs a little less obvious that theyâre curled into fists. His voice is strained but sincere when he says, âThanks, Bobby. For doing all that.â
âItâs the least I could do.â
With some hesitation, Trevor steps forward and past them, to lay one bouquet at the foot of Reggieâs headstone.
It feels right, for them all to be there together, paying homage to the people they once were.
Reggieâs glad he found this place, even if it was sort of an accident.

âi said i love you, you heard me.â âoh i know, i just want to hear you say it again.â for Sweet Tarts!
This sucked. This job was supposed to be Carrieâs retreat and chance to get away from everything. Enjoy the beauty of nature and all that.
Instead she was stuck keeping an eye on the cabinâs while everyone else went on the big celebratory end of summer camp hike and picnic because sheâd gone and severely twisted her ankle. So here she sat in the bunk of her cabin. Foot elevated on a stack of pillows while she fiddled with the two-way radio Reggie left behind.Â
Reggie had actually offered to stay with her. After he offered to carry her the whole 5 mile hike out to the picnic site and back again. Both of which she rejected. Her ankle didnât need to also ruin his final few days.Â
Didnât mean she was any less bored all alone like she was. Or that she secretly wished she had accepted his offer to stay. Heâd been the biggest surprise of this whole experience and it could have been nice to get some time together, just the two of them.Â
She glared down at the radio in her hand, checking the volume settings probably for the fifteenth time in the past five minutes. And just like every other time before it was on and at a decent volume level.Â
So why had it been silent ever since everyone left?
âReggie? You there?â She asked through the radio and was met by silence.Â
Reasonably Reggie could have his hands full. A few of those kids were energetic speed demons and daredevils with no sense of self preservation.Â
Itâd be better to let him work if that were the case. Heâd get back to her when he was able.Â
âReggie?â
âHey Carrie. You all good? Over.â Reggie said through the radio. His voice made the corners of her mouth twitch upward, though she could easily do without the worried tone.Â
âIâm fine.â She said, adjusting herself so she was sitting, back propped against the wall and holding her pillow in her lap. âYou donât need to sound so worried.â
âOh. Sorry, I guess. Why are youâŠcalling? Is this calling? Yeah, calling. Why are you calling? Over.â
âDork, you left the radio for me in the first place. Iâve been waiting for you to call me first.â
âOh, sorry about that. I got a little caught up. Over.â
âYeah I figured.â She rolled her eyes and bit back her smile as she pictured the blush that must be breaking out across his face.Â
âCarrie, you need to say âoverâ when youâre done talking or I wonât know if youâre done. Over.â
âYou seemed to understand I was done perfectly fine.â
âCarrie.â Reggie whined, holding out the vowels in her name and causing her to giggle in spite of her foul mood when he followed it with a quick lighthearted. âOver.â
âFine, fine. Howâs the hike going?â She said, before adding her own exaggerated and purposefully over enunciated. âOver.â
âWell, Brydon is convinced heâs discovered a new kind of rock, Charlotte keeps needing to be reminded to not pick the flowers, and Max nearly joined you in the twisted ankles club. Over.â
âSounds about right for them. If you need help let Chalotte know I still have some pink glitter cord we can make bracelets with later, but only if she leaves nature where itâs meant to stay. Over.â
Reggie laughed. âIâll pass the message on. Over.â
âWhat about you? How are you holding up? Over.â
âThereâs been a lot Iâve wanted to show you. Kind of wish I brought my camera with me. Maybe we can just come back together later, when your ankle is feeling better. Over.â
He wanted to spend time with her, just the two of them, as well. Carrie hugged the pillow tighter to her chest to counter the feeling of her heart pounding. âGod, I love him.â She said out loud, a little shocked to hear herself say it.Â
Although that shock was nothing compared to realizing that sheâd also held down the button to speak on the radio when she had. A simple twitch of muscle since sheâd gotten used to the movement during their short conversation.Â
âThe signal cut out, repeat last. Over.â
It was the perfect opportunity to pretend she hadnât said it. But, well, just because she couldnât enjoy the lake and woods like she wanted didnât mean she had to completely deprive herself of things she enjoyed. To hell with âbut isnât that too fast?â What was life without an occasional risk?
âI said I love you.â Carrie repeated over the radio, recognizing the smug tone of Reggie's request a beat too late. She groaned. âYou heard me. Overâ
âOh, I know.â he laughed back and she was glad no one else was in the room to have to hide her blush from. âI just wanted to hear you say it again. I love you, too.â
Carrie hid her face behind her hand in spite of herself. Her laugh bubbled out of her chest as he called back over the radio.
âCarrie? You still there?â
âOh. Iâm sorry. I was waiting for someone to say âover,â over.â She laughed, maybe a little smug.
âWell played. I deserved that.â He laughed, before he let out an exhausted groan. âI gotta go. Parker is trying to scale an oak tree. Weâll talk more later? Over.â
âCanât wait. Over.â
âMe neither. Over and out.â

àŒ*Â·Ë the infamous staircase, luke patterson
summary : you went to the store for just a second and when you got back, you found your boyfriend in a familiar annoying situation.
warnings : jealous reader, FLUFF, light tease, bitchy bitches.
word count : 1.1k
ââ ââ
â main masterlist
You were at a local supermarket getting snacks for the boys. It was a normal routine for you guys to do it after every performance, someone was given a day and they had to go to the supermarket to get the goods, and today is your turn.
You currently have five sodas, four chips, some cookies, gummy bears, chocolates, candies and a shit load more. The boys and you honestly, all have a huge appetite.
"Performance night?" the cashier asked. You're a regular customer at his shop, and you guys are always having small talks about your life.
"Yup." you chuckled as he kept on scanning the snacks.
Smiling, you continued the conversation by asking how's his life and the business, he was honestly glad to have you come here every so often and ask about his life. He felt so comfortable around you and with not having any kids, you were the closest thing he has.
After you guys finished talking, you glanced at the clock realizing how late it was. "Shit, they must be hungry, I'll see you soon Gary!" you yelled, already running out of the shop.
"Have a good night!" he smiled, waving you goodbye.
You turned around for a second and flashed him a grin and continued your way to the garage.
When you arrived at the house, people were already talking in groups, hanging out with themselves and their small group of people.
You moved so fast to the garage; you didn't realize a sight that would make your blood boil a few seconds later. "BOYS I'M BACK" you yelled and dumped all the food on the small table.
:readmore:
Not even a second later, Reggie, Alex and Bobby came rushing to you, taking the plastic bags and rummaging through it.
"You're the best!" Reggie beamed; mouth full of sour cream chips he just opened.
You laughed at the boy and went to sit next to him and reached over to grab the hershey's chocolate bar, realising your boyfriend, Luke, didn't come in with the boys.
"Hey, where's Luke?" you croaked your eyebrows upwards, asking the three boys in front of you.
They immediately looked at each other, eyes wide while their hands moved carefully to grab the food of theirs.
Suddenly they slowly stood up from their spot. Being curious you joined in standing up. "RUN!" Bobby yelled as all the boys started away from you.
Alex, seeing he has the most snacks, ran slower and you were faster when you wanted to know something. And it scared the boys how mean you can be.
You grab Alex's collar and pull him back, halting him from moving.
"Don't hurt me! I'm innocent!" he quickly said as his hands moved to cover his head, dropping all the snacks.
"Alex," you said softly â threateningly â Alex groaned and removed the hands from his face. He knows exactly what you're doing. The puppy dog eyes trick, and Alex being the most emotional person in the group he tends to break more often.
"Where's Luke?" your tone is so soft it almost covers the sneering voice below it.
But Alex knew better, and there's no way he's getting out of this.
He sighed defeatedly, "Stairs." That's the only thing that he said, and you know exactly why they're so afraid of telling you.
The stairs is the place where most girls hang out and where they usually drag Luke to.
"Thanks Alex, love you." you mumbled quickly and patted his chest.
You ran outside and your eyes instantly caught a glimpse of your boyfriend. How could you have missed it earlier?
Slowly, you walk towards his direction, getting closer and you see about ten girls surrounding him.
Luke looks uncomfortable as he shifts his weight from one leg to another. He just wants to see his girlfriend in all honesty. But being the respectful and thoughtful person he is, he doesn't want to be rude to his fans and leave.
You held a laugh at his expression, it looked so forced as he laughed at the girl's joke. As the 'laughter' died down, some girl with an earring the size of your hand suddenly took Luke's arm, staring up at him, batting her eyelashes and moving closer to him.
The sight made your blood boil.
Luke was obviously uncomfortable as he slowly backed away from the girl, but her grip was strong; it's almost possessive.
Not having enough patience, you made your way to the crowd and started pushing your way forward to your boyfriend.
When you reached the front, you saw Luke's gaze was on his shoes, ignoring the girl's conversation, attempt in flirt with him.
As you came closer, your shoes became visible to him and his line of vision. He recognises those sneakers from anywhere.
He snapped his head upwards, and you swiftly cupped his cheeks and kissed him.
Deeply.
Luke immediately reacts to the kiss as he relaxes in your hold.
The girl with the strong grip on his arm loosened her grip, so he wasted no time in putting them on your waist bringing you in closer.
You smirked when you heard some gasps. But then your focus instantly went back to Luke's lips.
How warm, soft and plump they were. How perfectly it went with your lips.
Needing oxygen, you pulled away out of breath at how intense that kiss was and saw all the girls now gone.
"What was that for?" Luke breathed out. his insides were warm and fuzzy, he felt like floating.
"Nothing, just wanted to show them you're mine." you whispered, lips brushed against his.
"Would you say, you were-" he taunted.
"Don't say it."
âMaybe a little-â
"I will rip your throat out." you threatened, if it were the other boys they would run like their asses were on fire. But this was Luke we're talking about, he's the only one that can handle you.
"Jealous?" he finished, smirking.
He knows you don't like being called that, but he just couldn't help himself. He loves seeing your flustered state if he teases you.
You rolled your eyes, your hands were on his chest and his hands moved to your hips. You buried your head in his chest and nodded your head, accepting the fact that you were, indeed, jealous.
He chuckled and kissed your temple, his head dipped down, lips brushing the shell of your ear, "You know I only have eyes for you baby."
His breath and low voice sent shivers down your spine as you shuddered. Luke had a shit eating grin on his face, loving how easily you can fall apart because of him.
You looked up and smirked at him, a glint of playfulness in your eyes, you're not even covering the fact that maybe you were loving this. You will only be jealous for Luke Patterson and him only.
reblog for a kiss! đ

â ââââ
You tapped your fingers impatiently against your desk, willing Spotify to reload quicker, visualising the album you knew was dropping in two minutes. Finally, after 120 seconds that could have been an hour, Julie and the Phantomâs new album was out and available, and you actually mightâve been the first person to listen to it.
Youâd been following Julie and the Phantoms since their very first performance was put on YouTube. Admittedly youâd been hopping on the bandwagon â your friends had been raving about it at school and force-fed you their songs, but youâd been genuinely addicted to their music ever since.
Pressing play on the new album you got up, leaving it to play as you began on your errands for the day. You danced around your apartment, putting away the washing and vacuuming and humming along to the singles that had already been released.
Luke was on his way home from his morning run when he could have sworn he could hear his own voice. Stopping, he pulled an earbud out of his ear, looking around for the source of the music. And there, on the third floor, was you. You were out on the balcony, organising the cute set of outdoor furniture youâd shoved in there and dancing ridiculously to Lukeâs personal favourite song of the album. He let out a quiet laugh to himself, admiring the carefree way you jumped around, miming the chorus youâd learnt into a can of what appeared to be bug spray. He smiled once more before heading into the building, musing about the odds of having a Phantoms fan live on his floor.
Back up in his apartment he could still hear the music, both your open windows making it sound clear despite not being obnoxiously loud. Luke just shook his head, heading straight to the shower and turning on his own music so he didnât have to be victim to his own voice all day.
An hour later, you were still listening. Youâd just finished the album and evidently wanted to commit it to memory before the day was through. Luke thought it was adorable, and he could feel the gratitude flowing through every inch of him. This was why he wrote music, to resonate with people and make them happy. Plus, now that he knew the cute girl whoâd just moved into the apartment opposite him liked his band, he figured he could build up some confidence to talk to you.
Morning turned to afternoon, and you were still playing his album. Luke was flattered, but in slight disbelief. He couldnât believe you werenât sick of it yet, though he supposed you didnât get the same ick he did when listening to his voice. Hearing you learning the words was another bonus, your voice floating in through his kitchen window as he cooked. He thought it was lovely, though far from professional. It was an unreal experience hearing your disembodied voice stumbling through the lyrics, making up ones youâd evidently misheard and improvising your own riffs on top of Julieâs.
Luke wondered whether it was possible to develop a crush on someone based on just their voice. Yeah he thought you were cute the few times heâd seen you coming or going through his street facing window, but your laughter when your voice cracked had him weak in the knees.
When you were still playing his music by four oâclock â youâd branched out to mixing in the rest of their discography by then â he was a little worried for your sanity. Flattered and grateful for the streams, but concerned all the same. At the same time he was worried for himself. Heâd offered to host his band and friends for a private celebration of the album release after the official party the night previous, and he thought it may be a little on the nose if you were still streaming their music into the night. He could already hear Alex making fun of him for living next to a fangirl (he did secretly hope you were a fangirl of him though).
So, whilst it wasnât exactly the meet-cute heâd hoped for, Luke found himself knocking on your door. He knocked again shyly when he heard you turn down the volume, clearly trying to see if youâd heard right. A few soft footsteps on the other side of the door and it was cracking open, your curious expression greeting him. Youâd only just moved in and didnât know anyone to be visiting.
Luke watched you go through the seven stages of grief in real time. Confusion at an unexpected visitor, recognition of him, and then a million shades of humiliation as you realised youâd been listening to his music all day and he could hear. God, you probably looked like an obsessed fangirl (you were, but you didnât want Luke Patterson to know that). With an embarrassed sound coming from the back of your throat, you asked Luke to give you twenty seconds of privacy. He agreed politely and you shut the door quickly. Slapping a hand to your mouth, you let out a silent scream, trying to let out all your anxious, embarrassed energy as quickly as possible, shaking your limbs about so you could stand still when you inevitably had to grovel for forgiveness to Luke.
Reopening your door, you were taken aback by how at ease Luke looked. And how much hotter he was in person, but you tried to push that thought to the back of your head for the sake of coherent conversation.
âHi,â You said, resisting the urge to ramble out apologies.
âHi,â He replied with that stupidly charming grin he wore in all his publicity shoots. âIâm Luke.â
âI know.â Fuck, you didnât mean to say that. âUm, obviously. Iâm sure youâve heard all theâŠâ You gestured inside to your apartment where his album was still playing quietly. You shouldâve turned it off.
âPlease donât be embarrassed, itâs really cute.â Now your blush was for a totally different reason, your favourite singer was calling you cute? You had to be dreaming.
âIs there something I can do for you?â You asked, still unsure of the purpose of the visit, though you werenât complaining.
âOh!â Luke looked as if he really had forgotten why heâd come, but covered himself with an easy laugh, âI was just wondering if you could turn down your music a bit? Itâs not too loud or anything, itâs not bothering me! Itâs just, Iâm having the band over tonight and as much as weâre all proud of the album, it feels a bit conceited to have it playing as we hang out privately, yâknow?â You were nodding vigorously before he could finish his sentence, spilling out apologies for even playing it in the first place.
âSeriously donât apologise,â He assured you, catching your eye in a way that made you feel like you couldnât look away (not that you wouldâve wanted to), âI really appreciate you being a fan and supporting us.â In that moment, entranced in his deep honey eyes, you honestly would have done whatever Luke Patterson asked of you, you were completely his. Maybe your parasocial relationships needed some examining.
Forcing yourself to end the moment despite your internal desires, you averted your eyes to the floor and Luke coughed slightly, both of you somewhat dazed.
âRight, well, it was really nice meeting you. Big fan. Guess Iâll see you around?â You said awkwardly, stepping back inside the threshold of your flat. Luke nodded in the same manner, and you were about to shut the door when he called for you to wait.
âDo you wanna come over later? You can meet the band, and itâs always helpful to make some friends in the building. I, uh, know youâre new here.â You nodded, more than surprised, but you sure as hell werenât gonna turn down this opportunity.
âYeah, that sounds nice. Thanks.â Luke named a time and you parted ways, neither of you catching the backwards glances you both chanced.
Inside your apartment was a whirlwind of stress. What did you wear for a dinner with your favourite band with an hourâs notice? You mightâve actually tried on half your wardrobe before deciding on your favourite jeans (maybe the ones that made your ass look impeccable, but whoâs to say?) and a simple top. It wasnât the most exciting outfit you could have come up with, not by a long shot, but you didnât want to make a single wrong decision tonight. All you needed to do was be completely perfect and impress Julie and the Phantoms and maybe get Luke to like you back. Easy stuff.
By the time you were meant to be going youâd managed to do your makeup in a way that didnât make you want to cry â why did it always turn out awful when you needed it to be good? Slipping your favourite hoops into your ears you were ready, and gave yourself a quick pep talk in the bathroom mirror. Youâd never been one for those self-love affirmations, but they couldnât hurt, right?
When Luke opened the door and his face broke into one of those smiles that lit up the buildingâs corridor, your nerves quieted themselves somewhat. He swept you under one of his arms leading you further into the apartment as if youâd been friends for years. You tried to take in what you could, and were a little jealous of how nicely his place was decorated â yours was still loaded with boxes and junk.
âGuys, meet my new friend!â Luke announced, and all the heads in the room snapped towards you.
âUm, hi,â You said meekly, remembering to tell them all your name.
âSheâs new to the building and I thought it would be nice for her to make some friends!â You smiled internally â Luke had the same personality as in all the interviews you watched, which made you glad. You didnât know what you would do if he wasnât all that you imagined.
The night started out a little awkward, at least for you. You were so stressed about making a good impression that you felt a little robotic, answers calculated to try and get the most amount of laughs or agreements. Luke noticed this and gestured for you to take the seat between him and Julie when the meal was served, figuring youâd have the most in common with her, and he was more than happy to talk your ear off if the opportunity arose.
âSo, whyâd you come to California?â Julie asked, and you explained that youâd moved for school, but it was cheaper to rent the flat than live in the dorms. That in itself was an easy avenue into talking about your roommate who was never around and the classes you were taking this semester. When you asked about Nick, who was sitting on Julieâs other side, he happily joined the conversation to talk about how they got together just after the Phantoms began to get world famous and their (first) show at the Orpheum.
The dinner was loud and messy, and you began to feel right at home. With Reggie flicking beans at Alex, and Lukeâs boisterous laughter ringing over conversation, there was a familial ambience to it all.
After the meal the group migrated towards the TV, and you found yourself next to Luke again, sandwiched between him and Willie, who introduced himself as Alexâs boyfriend. You recognised him from Alexâs Instagram, but you left that fact out. You found yourself making easy conversation with them, being the four who got Lukeâs couch, whilst the others made themselves at home in armchairs and other seats scavenged from around the flat.
As you spoke to the couple about a restaurant in LA they were recommending, you felt a hand land on your thigh. A glance in his direction showed it was Lukeâs, of course, but if his expression was anything to go by he was all but unaware, still speaking passionately to Nick about something. You tried to conceal your blush as your turned back to the gays, but the knowing looks had you hiding your face in your hands.
A movie was turned on and the chatter dulled somewhat, turned down to whispers over the dialogue. You didnât know how youâd ended up cuddled up into Lukeâs side, but you were absolutely not complaining. His arm on the back of the sofa had migrated to sitting around your waist at one point, and you were really hoping he couldnât feel your racing heartbeat. An accidental glance in Julieâs direction showed her and Nick wiggling their eyebrows suggestively, to which you simply made a bewildered expression, hoping it conveyed how little idea you had of what was going on. Unbeknownst to you, Luke was fighting the same losing battle with the rest of the boys, who were making childish kissy faces when you werenât looking. Luke handled it better than you, merely shrugging as if to say âsheâs cute â what do you want me to do?â
A few hours later and the night was winding down. You took your leave after Reggie, not wanting to risk overstaying your welcome and jeopardising the friendships you hoped you were making. The remaining guests all gave you warm goodbyes, begging for you to come back again. Julie even swept you into a tight hug, making you promise youâd DM her to go out for coffee soon. Luke walked you to the door, a gentle hand on the small of your back not going unnoticed by his friends.
âThanks for coming tonight, Iâm really glad we met,â He said, and his shyer tone caught you off guard, but made you smile nonetheless.
âThank you for inviting me,â You countered, âIt was really sweet of you to introduce me to all your friends.â Luke waved it off like it was nothing, which you were sure to him it was.
âCan I see you again soon?â He asked, suddenly looking remarkably like a little puppy.
âIâm only a door away,â You grinned, âYou can see me whenever you like. Hey, congrats again on the album. Iâd say itâs pretty good.â When you pressed a kiss to his cheek and bade him goodnight, Luke couldnât have resisted his cheesy grin if heâd tried.
âI love being a rockstar,â He said when he returned to his friends.
âShut up, man,â Replied Alex, âYouâre too whipped to claim any rockstar benefits on this one.â
