Yesterday Alasdair performed his commissioned piece, “G-AXZN: a dark, ambient journey over Summerisle” with Jem Finer on hurdy-gurdy and Alasdair on vocals, modular synth and other instruments. This was part of a Wicker-Man themed event at London’s Barbican. 

The piece includes the song The Two Brothers (from No Earthly Man), and Radio 4 previewed it, including an interview with Alasdair and Jem and a shortened studio rendition of the piece. In this edition of Front Row, the interview starts about 12 mins 30 secs in, and the music about six minutes after that.

Then both Alasdair and Jem featured in the band that played The Wicker Man soundtrack, Alasdair taking lead vocals on Corn Rigs.

Performed live by the specially-assembled Summerisle Stramash Ensemble featuring Jon and Bobbie Seagroatt (Comus), David Colohon (United Bible Studies), Alison O’Donnell (United Bible Studies/Mellow Candle), Jem Finer (Local Psycho/The Pogues/Longplayer), Joolie Woods (Current 93/The Mekons) and Alasdair Roberts, with vocals from the original soundtrack singer Lesley “Daisy” Mackie.
