okay, like, imagine there's two babies. Baby A has got some illness and has like an 85% chance of dying if they don't get an organ transplant. Then there's Baby B, who is perfectly healthy, 0% chance of dying. And so this doctor decides to force the mom of Baby B, the healthy one, to allow him to do an operation to giving Baby A his organs. This will give Baby A, the sick one, a 0% chance of dying, but Baby B now has a 40% chance of dying. So the doctor is reasoning that a situation in which there's a baby with a 40% chance of dying is better than one with 85%.
There's a class angle to this too. To make this clearer to a twenty first century American audience, since race is the modality in which class is lived, right? let's say the doctor is white, and Baby A is white, and Baby B & his mother are Black. The doctor also has a personal connection to Baby A, he was friends with Baby A's dad, but he doesn't have a personal connection to Baby B. The mom of Baby B is just someone he has authority over, he can force her to go along with the surgery against her will. Which he does, even though she begs him not to.
Anyway Jon Snow should have been stabbed to death at the beginning of ADWD and not the end.
#it’s the non-consensual aspect that gets to me#Jon threatens to kill Gilly’s baby if she doesn’t go through with it and Mance’s son dies!#'You are not a partner to me in this plan. You get no say. You have to obey because I have the power of life & death over you & your baby.'#and Gilly goes along with it because this is how she has been treated her whole life#Jon’s just the new Craster to her.
