Bibliography

Pylypchuk (born 1972) is a Canadian painter and sculptor, living and working in Los Angeles. He was born in Manitoba, Canada. Pylypchuk studied in 1996 at the Yale University Summer School of Music and Art, where he earned a BFA with Honors in 1997 at the University of Manitoba, and an MFA in 2001 at the University of California, Los Angeles. 

Basic intake from what I see in his work...

- I think this contemporary artist is an interesting example of how I could add a little something else to my work (Something other than the happiness). Something that would be unexpected in a work like my own. Jons work could be perceived as dark. It’s definitely not the scene for a child. 

- I could try creating something out of dark vibe objects or fabrics to turn into an artwork. If I do then i’ll need to use materials that relate to the rest of my terms work!

Points about Pylychuks work

- Sculptures of puppet like creatures 

- Crafted from old clothes, stuffed toys, wood, and other refuse

- Mixed media collages 

- Scavenged/ folkloric aesthetic

- Dark side of human condition (violence, war, illness, bad stuff like car crashes)
