The Brothers: Emergency (4.1, BBC, 1974)
"It seems so easy when you're away - to decide to be together. Quite practical, quite straightforward. Your mother only had to accept it. And we persuaded ourselves that she would. I wonder if you really would have told her, if this hadn't have happened?"
#the brothers#classic tv#1974#Roderick Graham#N.J. Crisp#Gerard Glaister#BBC#Jean Anderson#Patrick O'connell#Richard Easton#Robin chadwick#Jennifer Wilson#Hilary tindall#Derek benfield#Margaret ashcroft#Alexander John#series 4 babey! and fear not‚ i haven't dropped my Saint rewatch‚ but these posts have been sat in my drafts for the best part of a year#and i felt it was time to do some spring cleaning. after the doozy of a finale that ended series 3 we're back down to earth with a bump#old mama Hammond is critically ill in the hospital and alas that spells lean times for Edward and Jenny shippers (guilty)#neither reacts particularly well to the situation; Ted is overcome with an almost irrational sense of guilt while Jen is perhaps#understandably glum about the future of their relationship. but it can't all be doom and gloom... why no it isn't.. who's that I spy#a new character! Mrs Bill Riley‚ much mentioned but never seen‚ has finally joined the party! and played by the lovely Margaret Ashcroft#(pulling double duty‚ as she was still appearing in The Main Chance at this point). she's instantly wonderful as the slightly interfering#foil to Bill's casual indifference. and we get a shoutout to my beloved Pamela Graham; sadly she can't return Ann's phone call because#she's left her school position (and i suspect the series‚ for good) (such is life such is the work of a jobbing tv actor. farewell Pamela#you were too good for this world and much too good for Brian)#and talking of Ann... yeesh if she hasn't reacquainted herself with the detestable Nicholas Fox.. how my eyes rolled
