#Jim Hopper request

Hi could I request a cute hopper x reader fic set in season 2, where El helps hopper get ready for his date with the reader and a few months after they are dating, she meets El for the first time. Reader is nervous to meet El as she really wants El to like her, and El loves the reader and Hopper is in love with the reader especially after seeing his two favourite girls get along
Thank you for requesting! I miss writing about Hopper. I hope this is what you wanted and you enjoy it <3
Fair warning - I barely have experience in writing El and I haven't seen season 2 in years so I hope it's semi correct with the timeline? And I hope her character is somewhat correct🤞🏻
His girls
Jim hasn't been on a date in ages, as well as asked a girl out on a date. But the few times Y/N stopped by the station, he couldn't take his eyes off her. She captured his attention more than the cigarettes and donuts that sat on his desk. He watched her through the blinds of his office, up until she left.
Jim didn't have the balls to ask her out until she beat him to it.
Now he tore apart his closet as El microwaved her small frozen dinner.
El could hear him cursing to himself and the sound of things hitting the floor. She walked over to his room, knocking on the door.
"WHAT!" Jim yelled, El opened the door with a worried face. Her eyes took in the disaster of his room.
"Do you..help?" She asked, she still was learning how to properly speak. She learned words here and there from the group but she never was out in the world to learn how to communicate.
Jim thought about it. His first reaction was to say no and deal with it. But maybe help would be nice. Maybe it would calm his nerves.
"I need a shirt and jeans." Jim sighed. El smiled and raced into the room. Her eyes looked over his different shirts.
"For a date. Fancy? You know fancy?" He asked, El shrugged. She had no clue what that meant but she wanted to help.
"Date?" She asked
"Yeah, you know how you like Mike?" Jim gagged out, but he knew this was the only way she'd understand.
"Yes." She said in a dead tone.
"I like a girl, and we are going to get dinner." He explained, that the fewer words for her the better.
"Dinner. Girl. Like." She muttered to herself. Her brown eyes scanned his room. She reached forward to grab a button-up. She'd seen Mike wear lots of those, but he always paired it with a jacket.
"Jacket?" She asked, holding up the shirt.
"I need a jacket?" He asked, when she nodded he pulled one out of his closet.
~~~
Jim couldn't lie, he was very impressed with El. He stood in dark blue jeans, a black button up and a brown jacket resting on his shoulders.
"Hair," El said, handing him a hairbrush. Jim smiled and thanked her. Brushing through his hair and trying to push down the bumps.
"Okay, El. I'm going to leave now. Stay here, you know the rules." He said, hands on his knees as he got in her eye level.
"Yes, hopper."
~~~
After many more dates, and once they made it official, Jim was ready for Y/N and El to meet.
Y/N was terrified. She could feel all the air get stuck in her throat when he brought it up.
"Really?" She squeaked out nervously. She'd heard lots about El, which meant she knew El wasn't easily impressed. She was blunt and honest. Two things that scared Y/N to death.
Jim kept pushing and pushing. Y/N knew it was important to him and she felt honored he wanted them to meet. She couldn't help but worry if El didn't like her. Would Jim end it all together? She didn't want to lose Jim, she felt herself falling for him.
~~~
"El this is Y/N!" Jim said a huge smile on his face. A smile El barely ever saw. El knew that Hopper didn't smile often. He was always grumpy and annoyed. She made him crack a smile every once and a while. And she felt her stomach warm as she watched Hopper smile toward whoever Y/N was.
"Pleasure!" El said, a big smile on her face as she held out her hand.
Jim may have given El a lesson in manners before this event. He prepped El just as much, or even more than he prepped Y/N.
"Oh! It's a pleasure for me too!" Y/N said she shook the young girl's hand.
"Compliment her haircut," Jim whispered against Y/N's head.
"I love your hair! The curls suit you very well." Y/N said, thanking Jim in her head, El's smile somehow got bigger.
"Thank you!" She said excitedly. Her face felt warm and her stomach fluttered.
"Pretty," El said, looking at Hopper.
"I agree." Jim smiled.
They sat down for dinner, a simple take-out delivery of pizza. It was so simple that it made Jim feel like they already were a family. El told her jokes that Jim never understood, but Y/N laughed at every single one. El didn't understand much of what Y/N talked about, but she listened closely. She watched her lips move and nodded along.
Jim worked hard on helping El with her communication, and he could see the improvement as she talked to Y/N.
~~~
After they met, El asked for Y/N to come over every day. She claimed it was nice to talk to a girl for a change. Jim rolled his eyes but he loved that El wanted Y/N around, because he did too.
Months down the road, El and Y/N communicated better than ever. El learned new words and Y/N kept her sentences short. Sometimes Y/N was there when Jim wasn't.
He lost count of the times he came home from work to see El learning to braid Y/N's hair. Eyeshadow on El's eyes and lipstick on her lips. Her nails were in a bright pink, and Y/N's nails matched.
"We had a girl's day!" El said, looking towards Y/N to see if she said it correctly. When Y/N gave her a nod and thumbs up, El smiled again and looked back to Hopper.
Jim hasn't had a family in a while. And he worried he'd never feel the love for a family like he did before. He was scared he'd feel too guilty and think he was replacing his old family. But he wasn't.
The two girls in front of him were his chosen family. And he'd pick them over and over again.
"I think Jim needs a makeover too!" Y/N said, a smirk on her face as El immediately agreed.
"No!" Jim argued.
~~~
"Nice nails, Hop!" One of the officers said as Jim walked into the office.
"Shut it," Jim muttered, grabbing a donut and walking into his office.
"Are your nails pink?" Joyce asked, sitting in his chair as she waited for him to arrive.
"My girls wanted to give me a makeover. Now what's up?"
Request: Hop & Joyce don't really like or trust Steve & he knows it. He can tell by their behavior towards him. Post spring break from Hell, Steve tears into them both after they insinuate that it's his fault for the kids being hurt. Steve YELLING at them in front of the party bc he is injured more grievously than the kids & he once again protected them, to the detriment of himself.
Joyce & Hop are forced to acknowledge that their behavior was cruel. And they have to apologize but Steve doesn't accept their apology straight away.
I am usually such a sucker for Hopper adopting Steve and treating him as his own that this was really difficult. Like, maybe top 5 most difficult things I have ever written. It's kind of short, but I wanted more of the focus to be on people standing up for Steve and Steve standing up for himself than the actual angsty part. My darling, I hope it lives up to expectations! -Mickala ❤️
------------------------------------------------------------
“I guess I just don’t understand how Max ended up like this if Steve was supposed to be protecting them all.”
Joyce’s words echoed in Steve’s head.
She was whispering to Hopper in the waiting room, but it was surprisingly quiet, and easy to hear just about anything.
The kids were asleep on the couches, waiting for any news on Max or Eddie, but the nurses told them it could be hours. Hours were a long time to wait when someone was bleeding out and the other someone had multiple broken bones and was unconscious.
Steve felt untethered, his connection to the earth cut the moment he saw what happened to Eddie, pushed into a dangerous orbit when he saw what happened to Max.
“He’s never really let me down like this. Did you hear Dustin say he thinks he was distracted by Eddie?” Hopper asked quietly.
“What did he mean by that?” Joyce paused. “Oh. Do you think so?” Steve couldn’t see their faces, couldn’t see the way they were having a silent conversation within a conversation. “It wouldn’t be the first time Steve let his romantic feelings get in the way of their safety.”
And that really wasn’t fair.
It wasn’t fair because he always put these kids who weren’t even his first whenever he could. It wasn’t fair because it wasn’t his job to be perfect. It wasn’t fair because they were the adults who should have been here to help and they weren’t.
He could feel tears building up, his vision getting just blurry enough that he knew he needed to walk away or he would start actually crying, and he couldn’t let anyone see that.
Especially not Joyce and Hopper.
Apparently, they already thought so little of him, he couldn’t possibly show them that he was struggling now.
“I think we’ll have to have a talk with the kids about trusted adults. They seem to rely on him for a lot and maybe if we just explain to them that Steve can’t handle it-”
“Excuse me, Mr. Hopper?” A nurse, thankfully, interrupted them.
Steve turned to see a young nurse, probably barely older than him, standing in the entranceway to the waiting room.
Hopper walked over to her, actually whispering this time, as if what was being said right now was a secret, but not the way he felt about Steve.
He glanced over at Steve, then nodded to the nurse. He called Joyce over to them, whispered something, then they both looked at Steve.
He hated what was happening. He was used to being a disappointment to adults, but in a silent way. His parents weren’t really ever around long enough to show their disappointment for long. Seeing it now, on the faces of people he respected and wanted to impress, hurt.
Hopper started walking over to him, his face serious.
“They have Max stable. She may not wake up from the coma, but they’re hoping she makes a turn for the better soon. Eddie woke up a few minutes ago while they were trying to stitch him up and he kept yelling for you. He isn’t quite stable yet. He passed back out as they were trying to put him on oxygen.”
“But they’re both alive?”
“For now.”
“Can I see Max?”
“I don’t think that’s a great idea right now. They’re trying to reach her mom, but the phone lines keep going down. I’m standing in as the adult responsible until she can be contacted.”
“So now you want to be the adult responsible? Not any other time when we needed you?” Erica said from behind them.
She’d been asleep with Lucas and El only a minute ago.
“Erica, it’s fine. I’ll just wait with you guys.”
“No, Steve, it’s not fine.” Erica put her hands on her hips, scowled up at Hopper and Joyce, who had just joined them. “Steve looks out for us every day. Even when the world isn’t trying to end. He drives us to school or from school or to the arcade, he pays for our food at the diner all the time, probably spends all his paychecks on us. And where are the parents? They don’t even know where we are most of the time.”
“But-” Joyce started to interrupt until Erica held up her hand.
“You left your kids to fly to Russia when you knew something weird was going on. You could have died, and then what? You know who would have stepped in? Steve. Because that’s what he does for us. Do you know one of his worst concussions was because he was protecting Lucas and Max from Billy? You know he drove Max everywhere she needed to go all year because she didn’t wanna be around anyone else? How about the fact that without him, we wouldn’t have even been able to get Eddie back here? But sure, blame him for this. It totally makes sense to point the finger at the one person who has protected us over and over again.”
Steve was crying.
The other kids were starting to wake up from her voice getting louder as she spoke, and it didn’t take long for them to realize what was happening.
El and Dustin surrounded Steve, cuddling into his sides to comfort him. He needed it, and he was always willing to accept love from the kids. They so rarely gave it, not because they didn’t love him, but because they were at that age where they didn’t want to.
These kids were his in almost every way that mattered, and he was just grateful that they weren’t hesitating when he needed them most.
“You kids could have died. Steve should have never allowed most of this to happen. He’s the adult, and he let you all go into this without even considering you could die.”
“You think we were just gonna sit around and wait for the adults to handle it? When have we ever done that?” Dustin asked incredulously.
“It’s what you should have done. Steve knows that.”
“Mr. Harrington?” A different nurse was standing in the doorway now, older, definitely less nervous.
“Yes?” Steve responded, wiping his tears away quickly.
“Mr. Munson is in a recovery room. He’s woken up a few times for a minute and each time he’s asked for you. Are you family?”
He was pretty certain hospital policy meant only family could go back, especially during natural disasters, so he lied.
“Yes, he’s my cousin. I can’t reach anyone else yet.”
The nurse smiled, though she probably didn’t quite believe him.
“Right this way, then.”
Dustin tugged on his arm.
“Can I come with you?”
“Sorry,” Steve shook his head. “Not yet. Let me check on him, and I’ll come right back out for you.”
“See? This is what I meant about letting his feelings get in the way! What if we weren’t here? Would you just leave the kids to sit out here alone?”
This time, El spoke up.
“Steve is always putting us first. He can put himself first sometimes. That is allowed.”
Steve wanted to hug her again, but the nurse looked like she was going to walk away, and if he didnt follow her, he wouldn’t see Eddie.
“Go see him, we’ll be here,” Lucas said from next to Erica.
He nodded at them all, giving them a smile before he followed the nurse without looking back at Hopper or Joyce.
Eddie was asleep when they entered the room, so the nurse whispered to him at the door.
“He’s on a lot of morphine, and he’s still receiving a blood transfusion. He may wake up off and on, but he probably won’t make much sense until they lower the dose. Just be here for him,” she smiled before leaving the room.
Steve turned to Eddie and couldn’t hold back more tears.
He’d let him down. He’d let all of them down.
He was supposed to be the hero, despite the jokes about it all, they all knew he was.
But not this time.
Eddie almost died. Max almost died.
He could feel the bat bite on his stomach burning and itching, like it was already getting infected, but he ignored it.
He could wait.
He sat down on the side of the bed, slowly so he wouldn’t wake Eddie up.
But Eddie’s eyes fluttered open once, then twice, then a third time before they managed to stay open enough to see Steve.
“Stevie?” His voice rasped out, a small smile hidden under his oxygen mask. “You’re here.”
“I’m here, Eds.”
He had to be strong, but his brain was so focused on everything he’d done wrong and if he’d just been faster or got out of the vines quicker, Eddie probably wouldn’t be here and Max would be awake and-
“Stop.”
“Hm? Stop what?”
“Bein’ mean.”
Steve’s brows furrowed. He hadn’t even said anything else, had he? Was he so exhausted that he was actually talking without realizing it now?
“I’m not even saying anything.”
Maybe it was Eddie hearing things. He knew morphine was pretty intense.
“To yourself.”
“What?”
“Bein’ mean to yourself. In your head.”
“I-”
“‘S okay. Me too sometimes. Just gotta stop.”
Steve couldn’t help but smile at the way Eddie’s eyes kept drooping closed as he spoke. He would probably fall back asleep any second.
“I’ll be nice. You get some sleep.”
“You rest?”
“Not yet. Maybe later.”
Steve couldn’t really rest until he knew everyone was home, safe, and sleeping off some of the worst of their injuries.
“Yes yet.”
Steve snorted. Eddie was so high. He knew it was better than whatever pain he would feel when they eased him off of everything, but hopefully he wouldn’t remember all this.
“Sleep,” Eddie said, his hand managing to find Steve’s and tugging weakly on it.
“I can’t sleep here, Eds. This is your bed.”
“Our bed.”
Steve’s cheeks were hot, he knew if he touched them, they’d feel like fire. Eddie just had that way of completely rendering Steve speechless. He’d done it so many times over the last couple of days, Steve lost count.
“I’ll stay right here until your uncle gets here, okay?”
“And after?”
It probably wasn’t smart. It would look weird for him to stay in general, but he also had to get the kids home, try to patch himself up at home, maybe shower before he did some rounds and made sure everyone was taken care of.
“I have to take care of the kids.”
“But they have parents.”
“Yeah, well.”
They were interrupted by a knock on the door.
Hopper walked in, face as serious as Steve had ever seen it.
“I was able to contact your uncle, Eddie. You can go now, Steve.”
But Eddie gripped his hand harder, frowning at Hopper. He seemed more awake all of a sudden, but with the way his eyes kept trying to close, Steve could see it was a challenge.
“I want him here.”
“Eds, it’s fine. He’s not too happy with me right now, so-”
“What? Why? You helped save the world.”
Eddie was looking between Steve and Hopper like an answer would suddenly make itself known, but Hopper was just staring at Eddie, and Steve was just staring at his feet.
He didn’t want to get Eddie involved in this. He just wanted to pretend it never happened, maybe try to look Hopper in the eye again someday, and apologize to Joyce for not keeping the kids as safe as he could have.
But Eddie apparently took the “no running” thing very seriously now.
“Steve? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. Just. I kinda let them down, didn’t keep everyone safe.”
Steve shrugged it off, but he knew he wasn’t very convincing, or really even shrugging it off. He still felt the ache of disappointing people in his chest.
“Hold the fuck up. You’re serious?”
Eddie sounded as outraged as someone high on morphine could. His voice was barely distorted by the oxygen mask on his face, and his eyes were nearly at their normal size.
Steve couldn’t look at either of them.
“Steve is trusted by all these parents to keep their kids out of danger, and he brought them headfirst into it. It just made Joyce and I wonder how often they were doing stupid things,” Hopper explained, though he didn’t even sound convinced he believed his own words.
Joyce was walking in just as Eddie was about to speak.
“Steve, I think you should bring Dustin home. Claudia is going to get worried.”
He didn’t need to look up to know that Eddie was glaring at Joyce and Hopper.
“Let me get this straight. Steve provides free rides, and babysitting services, and meals, and fun for your kids damn near every day. He protects them during this shit every time it happens, literally puts his body on the line to keep them alive. Tried to somehow keep them as safe as possible when it seemed like the world was ending this time, did keep them alive, and you’re still finding reasons to blame him?”
They both had the decency to at least look like they regretted it.
But they still didn’t say anything.
“Fuck this. I’m not gonna pretend to know everything about your little Upside Down Club, but I’m in it now. None of us wanna be here, but we are. Steve’s been doing his best for years, since he was a kid, and all you can do is complain that your sweet angels aren’t completely unscathed? This is a team effort, you know that. They volunteered. Steve would have had to lock them in a prison cell for them not to help.”
Steve looked up at Eddie, watched as he started to lose the fire that had overtaken him temporarily, his eyes dulling as the morphine dripped into his veins and flushed through his system.
“Best damn babysitter…” Eddie mumbled as his eyes fell closed.
Steve watched him for a moment, waiting to see if he suddenly woke up again. When he didn’t, he stood up slowly, didn’t want to risk him feeling the bed move, and made his way to the door.
But something hurt in his chest, something he knew wouldn’t go away unless he said something.
He turned to see Hopper and Joyce staring at each other, having a silent conversation.
“I’m used to disappointing people. I’ve been disappointing my parents my whole life. Disappointed friends, Nancy, bosses. But I have never let those kids down. I do my best with them. I try to be there for them the way I wish someone had been there for me. I make sure they’re kids because life handed them a shitty card or whatever and they deserve to still be kids. You can be mad at me if you want, but I know I did my best. They know I did my best.”
He didn’t wait for a response, didn’t want to hear them say anything else about how wrong his decisions were.
But Joyce stopped him from leaving the room, hand on his arm.
“Steve, wait. Honey, I’m sorry. I think…I think we got caught up in the moment and just needed someone to blame.”
“You do the best you can. We know you do a lot for them.”
It was nice to hear, but he couldn’t get over the uncomfortable itch in the back of his head that he deserved more than that.
“Thanks, but I don’t think I can accept the apology right now.” And then the anger really set in. It came over him so fast, he could feel his hands shaking. “A lot of things are out of our control. We all wanna blame someone for this stuff, but it just boils down to the same people over and over. Max is in a coma because of Henry Creel, not me. Eddie is in the hospital because of demon bats, not me. Eleven and Will are connected to the Upside Down because of the government, not me. I’m just trying to be whatever they need, and that’s better than I can say for either of you at this point.” Steve left this time, Joyce dropping her hand from his arm halfway through his loud speech.
Okay, he was yelling.
But Eddie slept through it, and it felt good to get all of that out.
He made his way to the waiting room, hoping everyone would still be there so he could check in.
Everything felt too fresh, too much like Vecna could show back up and take any of them at any moment.
But the waiting room was empty, not even Dustin remained.
Steve did his best not to panic. Their parents had all been contacted, so they most likely had just been picked up and brought home.
“They’ve all been picked up, sugar,” an older nurse said from the front desk.
“Oh. Thanks.”
“They left you a note, though.”
He recognized her as the woman who had been here the whole night, handling phone calls and people walking in like she’d been doing this for decades. Maybe she had been.
He walked over and grabbed it from her, giving her a small smile in thanks.
He walked outside before he opened it, not sure why he was suddenly nervous.
But as he read, he felt tears in his eyes for what felt like the hundredth time that night.
Steve- Go home and sleep. We’ll be okay for a day while you rest. You don’t ever do that. We don’t agree with Joyce and Hopper, and we hope you know you’re the best damn babysitter ever. Love, Dustin, Lucas, Erica, El, Will, Mike, and Max (if she could)
He folded up the note, put it in his pocket, and walked to his car.
He ignored the blood in the backseat, rolled his windows down to ignore the stench of iron.
Knew he would be spending most of his day tomorrow trying to clean the stains out, but figured it would be a good mindless task.
He thought about Eddie, about how quick he was to defend him. About how he’d gripped his hand like it was a lifeline.
It felt that way to Steve.
He hadn’t let Eddie down. He’d saved Eddie.
If he didn’t do anything else right, he’d done that, and nothing Joyce or Hopper said could take that away.
CozyTober Day 5: Hot Chocolate or Tea
Jim Hopper x wife!reader
wc: 0.7k
warnings: literally just tooth-rotting fluff
a/n: Hopper has a special place in my heart and making him happy is the least I can do. Reblog if you enjoyed please, and I'll see you tomorrow for Day 6!
It’s no secret that Jim Hopper is not exactly a happy man. Sure he has his moments, usually when he is around his girls, but the majority of people you ask would say that the Chief of Police generally has the demeanor of a storm cloud.
That ‘storm cloud’ is currently leaning against the sink in your shared kitchen, wearing a soft worn New York Jets tee shirt, a pair of Levi's, and grey wool socks. He’s also sporting a comically large whipped cream mustache and pretending not to notice because it makes his daughters laugh.
Jane’s giggles are hidden behind her own mug full to the top with hot chocolate, whipped cream, and coated with the leftover holiday sprinkles you found in the pantry from last year’s cookie-baking marathon.
Your youngest, Emmie, though. Her laughter takes over her whole body. It comes straight from her tummy and spills out of her mouth as she throws her head back.
“Daddy!” She yells, “It’s right there!” She tries to point at his face but her shoulders are shaking far too much for her aim to be anywhere close to accurate,
“I don’t know what you’re talking about bug.” Jim takes another sip of his cocoa, making sure to really shove his face deep into the pillow of white floating on the top.
She bursts out in new peels of laughter and he catches your gaze and winks.
Jane tries and fails to keep in a snort of her own and decides to join in on the fun. She takes a drink and comes up for air with her own, multicolored lip ornament.
“Janie you have one too!” Emmie yells and her gaze quickly flashes between her father and her older sister. “Mommy look!” She turns to you.
“I don’t know lovebug, I don’t see anything different.” You tilt your head and look back at your little girl.
“Mommy!” She shrieks and looks at you in disbelief. You have to use every ounce of willpower in your body to not burst out laughing at the look on her face.
“Emmie, why don’t you show us what you mean?” Jim asks her, a faux look of innocence painting his features.
She looks down at her own Winnie the Pooh mug and steels herself, shoving her face into the whipped cream. She comes up for air a second later, with a whipped cream goatee instead of just a mustache and looks at the three of you before she starts to laugh again.
You quickly run to get the camera sitting on the entryway table next to the kitchen and hustle back. You make it just in time to snap a photo of your family, all sporting some pretty impressive cream facial hair.
“Alright you three, maybe we drink our cocoa instead of shoving our faces into it.” You relent, grabbing a rag and wetting it in the sink next to Jim. You cross the small space to wipe off Emmie’s face before turning to Jane.
The teenager grumbles but lets you clean her off, and you quickly kiss the crown of her head as a thank you.
Jim grabs you by your waist and hauls your back into his chest, quickly spinning you so that the two of you are chest to chest. He still has some whipped cream in his actual mustache and you use your thumb to wipe it away. Licking your thumb clean quickly after.
Jim pulls you closer and into a soft kiss that lingers for a moment or two longer than it really should with children present.
“Mommy ew!” Emmie yells from her seat at the table.
“Yeah guys, ew.” Jane agrees nodding in agreement at her little sister’s sentiment.
You turn out of Jim holds and pick up your own mug from where it rested on the counter. You playfully stick your tongue out at the girls. Before taking the first sip of your drink.
Your cocoa is more warm than hot at this point but it’s still delicious. And if you make sure to tilt the mug just right so you come out with a cream ‘stache of your own that’s your own business.
“Mommy!” Emmie yells and her little giggling fit starts all over again.
Is there a fic out there when after season 4 Steve doesn't trust/react well to Joyce and Hopper? I just think that him being the oldest and real adult left in Hawkins to deal with and protect the kids would mess him up a bit.
Like, I understand Joyce left because she wanted to protect her blood children and El, but none of the other parents are read in on the situation. She left the rest of the kids after another super traumatic experience where multiple people they knew and cared about died and only Steve, Nancy, and Robin could support them. Not to knock Nancy and Robin, but the show doesn't show them supporting the kids the way Steve does, so it all ended up on his shoulders.
Add in the fact Joyce up and abandons her kids when she learns about Hopper being alive, and then even more terrible things happen, and I feel like Steve would not trust the adults anymore and truly resist ans get upset when they try to parent him or take care of *his* kids.
So I'd anyone has fic recs or wants to write one... let me know...
Day Nineteen: Jim Hopper + Uniform
There's something about Jim, and that's before you come to the sheriff's department to bring him lunch one afternoon.
You and Jim had been dating for a few very good months now, but you had yet to see him outside of the fancy restaurant Enzo's, at his cabin, or when you took little trips and stayed in a comfy little bed and breakfast.
You had just been yearning to see him in his whole get-up. Wanted to see if he stretched out the sheriff's shirt like he did the nice flannels he wears to Enzo's or how he stretches out the jeans how he does the sweatpants he wears.
You were in a dazed thought as you pulled into a parking space in front of the sheriff's department. You aren't sure how long you'd been driving while making up dreams of what Hopper might be looking like this afternoon.
When you walked into the department you had excepted it to be crowded and filled with life, but it really wasn't. You looked out the window realizing that you might have come at a bad time. You walked towards the front desk. An older woman stood up, "What can I help you with dear?" The older woman asked.
You look down at my purse and the lunch bag you had locked in your hand. "I was… I'm wondering where I might find Sheriff Hopper?" You asked in the strongest of voices. Her face contorted for a slipt second then she just had a realization. "You must be Y/n, I'm Florence, Hopper's secretary." You release a breath that you hadn't realized you were holding on, so tightly.
"He'll be back in a few had to pick up a troubled kid, you can wait in his office," Florence says to you. You walk in stride behind her trying to keep up with the older women. Florence opens the door for you, and you turn. "How do you know me?" You ask her, She smiles "Hopper talks about you a lot even if he's not that much of a talker." With that Florence is gone, and you're left in Hopper's office.
While you wait you get his food out of the bag, placing it on the right side of the desk, and you start to look around at the walls of his office. Pictures, and photos with special people around the town when Hopper had become sheriff.
“I’m not bookin' you, son, I’m just gonna call your uncle.” You hear Hopper talking outside the office. You panic for a moment and jumble around to get into the seat across from his desk.
The door opens wide and with a pounding force on the other side. Hopper doesn’t notice you at first not until he goes to sit down and he sees food, and then your beautiful face.
“What are you… FLORENCE?” Hopper shouts. She walks fast to the door. “Oh, I forget to tell you that Y/n was here.” She leaves. Leaving Hopper standing there with a dumbfounded look on his face.
“You were gonna call somebody? Do I need to leave?” You ask him. He looks down at you. Anger and confusion melt away. “Oh hell no, stay here and then I can have lunch with ya sweetheart,” Hopper says. He settles down and reaches over for the phone.
It’s a rather short conversation with “I understand” and “It won’t happen again.”s added to almost every single other thread of conversation.
“Now let me get back to you sweetheart,” Hopper says. His voice was deeper and thicker. He gets up to the chair squealing with the weight coming off the old springs. “Stand up sweetheart,” Hopper says shutting his door and his blinds. “For privacy love.” He assures you.
You stand up. You had worn a little sun dress, one that gave off the curves of your body. Exposing most of your skin to the afternoon sun. "Do a little spin f'me." Hopper's voice is husky, sending shivers down to your core. As you spin the dress flutters up exposing more of your skin to Hopper.
"God'damn, you are so beautiful," Hopper mutters mostly to himself. You smile timidly. This is new territory. You want to ask Hopper to do a spin of his own. You want to see how he looks in his whole uniform. The light brown doesn't clash with his skin, rather makes his blue eyes sparkle.
He reaches out his hand for you to take. "Come sit on my lap?" He offers, and you take his hand. He walks softly to his chair getting comfortable before dragging you into his lap. Hopper's one thigh becomes your seat.
You talk and Hopper eats.
Hopper can feel your heat seeping through your cotton panties into his work slacks. It's driving him insane as you innocently talk about the garden behind your house, and how the kids that you do story time with at the library today were so good at listening today.
Hopper bounces his leg, bouncing you ever so slightly up and back down. You don't say anything about it at first. You nibble at your own food, not really hungry for food right now. Maybe Hopper reads your mind, or maybe something else gives it away.
Continuously Hopper bounces his leg, giving a few sharp bounces, and a few loose and slow ones. Trying to gather some sort of rhythm, that's good for both you and his leg.
Hopper finishes up the food you delivered to him, but he doesn't want you to go just yet. You go to get up after Hopper had thrown his trash into the can across the room. A large hand pulls you back down.
"Don't go just yet, baby," Hopper whispers. You nod and stay put. The bouncing of his leg hasn't stopped only getting better and better. The vibration and the force on your clit hitting the muscular thigh make your eyes go crossed. "I can feel your heat through all these layers," Hopper whispers into your ear, as he pulls your back into his chest. You try to look at him as your head rests on his shoulder.
"Jim…" a strangled moan falls from your lips. You don't ever call him by his first name unless you have far long gone in your mind. Lost to the power of your euphoria. "Are you enjoyin' yourself?" Hopper asks in a sultry tone. You moan, and press your lips into his bread-covered jawline.
Your imagination could never meet the reality of what and how Hopper feels in his uniform. You can feel the hard metal of his buckle digging into your back, but you welcome the pain of it. "Answer me, sweetheart." Hopper demands of you. "Yes… fu… yeah JIm I…" You're having a hard time expressing yourself as he grinds his kneecap into your clit. Wet panties sticking to the material of the slacks. "I bet you are sweetheart. I can feel how wet you are. You gonna make yourself cum on my thigh baby?" He whispers to you.
Your mind was already frizzy and frazzled, but now it's white-hot blank. You see nothing but the euphoric feeling that pumps through your body. You shift needing more pressure, or attention. Hopper's hands are held around your waist and pressed flush into your breast.
Your hands land on the crumb-covered part of the desk. Knuckles going white, and eyes closing tightly as you get just the right amount of pleasure from the hard muscle between your thighs. "Oh, sweetheart…" Hopper mumbles, "I can feel you, gonna cum baby? I know you are, god you're so beautiful." Hopper words are hot and push you over the edge.
Cumming through your white cotton panties and all over his uniform slacks. Your body leans, and lumps over the desks. Chest rising and falling as you try to catch your breath. Hopper's large hand sprawls against your back as he rubs deep, and meaningful circles into your back to calm you.
"Fuck Hopper…" You mumble out, "Did you come just for lunch, or where you think' about somethin' else." You chuckle a little, "What… I got a little hot from your sheriff's uniform." You say back, not yet lifting yourself from the desk. "Good to know sweetheart."
Anon request: Now that university has started what about a story where reader is studying for her exams so she and jim haven't seen each other for a week and jim start missing her so bad so on a friday night he decide to sneak up on her window and make her a surprise and spend the night and saturday morning together.
This Friday night
Chief Jim Hopper × you (F)
Rating: Mature
Status: Complete (one shot)
Five long days at college, taking lectures, taking notes and enduring long political rallies from the most enthusiastic students. They were unavoidable if you wanted to have a social life at university. For many of them, the idea of returning home every weekend after algebra and experimental physics classes, carrying all their notes and driving across the United States to see their family again, was crazy, but you lived so close to the campus. Enough to decide to return to Hawkins and meet all your friends. So, that's what you did. While your fellow students were split between the silent, dusty corridors of the university library and the tequila-soaked nightclubs, you returned to the sleepy town where you were born and raised, to spend an evening at The Hideout — attending Eddie's concert, visiting Robin and Steve at the video store and avoiding Billy's advances whenever you decided to go swimming in the pool. You usually enjoyed having dinner with your family; your father was an incredible cook, and on Saturday evenings he enjoyed cooking for you and your mother: lasagna, fried aubergines and courgettes, ravioli with sauce, stuffed peppers, baked breaded fish fillets and so on. However, you knew when you came home that weekend that you wouldn't find them. With a resigned sigh, driving your station wagon home, listening to the latest Talking Heads LP on the radio, you sped on towards Hawkins thinking about what sad frozen food you were going to have for dinner that Friday night.
That same Friday, Jim had made his usual tour of the city centre; he had received a call from the supermarket in the afternoon to clear a traffic jam, and in the end he had parked the pick-up, entering the store for a case of water — and maybe a case of beer. He didn't expect to meet your mother at that time of day, when she usually worked in the typing office across the street. Jim and your father were longtime friends, they had met in high school and again after Jim's comeback. He had always been kind, welcoming. So the Chief had also met your mother, and you. You were just a girl when he met you for the first time — sweet sixteen, denim jacket and teased hair, pink lip gloss and backpack full of notebooks — and at the time he certainly hadn't noticed you. And he wouldn't have noticed you if you hadn't blossomed into the beautiful, young woman you had become; Jim was crazy about you. There was no other way to put it. You were damn beautiful, so incredibly smart and all your smiles were bright and clear, so pure. When Jim joined your father to watch the football or baseball championship, he would observe you sideways walking around the house always with a book under your arm, and he would just have time to move his eyes back to the TV screen, and start his lips to the beer can, before you passed through the living room, kissing your dad on the forehead and greeting him. Jim almost never spoke to you... it was already difficult to control his growing erection every time you squeezed his shoulder with your soft hand, smiling at him and asking him if he wanted something to eat. When you had enrolled in college, you had chatted like two adults for the first time, during the barbecue organized by your father. You had spoken full of enthusiasm for your future plans, he had listened to you, smiling at every word. And then, you were interested in him. Jim wouldn't have expected this; that a pretty, young, intelligent little thing shoes any interest in his life was new. You asked him about New York and his daily life in Hawkins, if he had any trips planned for the summer, and what was the last movie he watched at the cinema. Trivial things, perhaps, but it had been nice spending time with you.
So, when Jim saw your mother in the aisles of the supermarket, he immediately stopped her to ask about your weeks at college.
"What a lovely surprise to meet you here!" your mother had exclaimed. "My daughter is coming back this evening, we have just enough time to say goodbye and then my husband and I have to leave... we wanted to spend the weekend with her, but her grandmother is giving us a lot of trouble! We'll spend these days with her, in Richmond."
His eyes opened in surprise. "Free house from Friday to Sunday?" he commented, ironically. "I should expect calls then, Saturday night."
The woman laughed. "Oh no! She's a good girl, you know. And besides, exams are approaching! Surely, she'll want to be alone."
Jim thought about that last sentence all evening. She'll want to be alone. Hawkins was a quiet town, nothing alarming had ever happened... sunk on the sofa of his bungalow, overlooking the lake, Jim glanced at the time again. Nine thirty. It was already dark. The pizza box was lying empty on the coffee table, the beer was finished and yet another dull western was playing on the TV. He didn't like the idea of you being alone. And truth be told, he liked the idea of you having company even less. I'm going to check. He shook his head. It was a bad idea, although… oh screw it. I can do what I want. I'm the Chief of police. Jim grabbed the car keys and drove to your house.
At home, you had already finished dinner. In the previous days you had organized your studies, enough to be able to enjoy a relaxing weekend in complete solitude. Maybe you'd call Robin the next day, but for now... you had your ice cream, an adventure movie you rented at the store, and a half bottle of dessert wine. You didn't need anything else. You were about to finally sit down on the sofa, when someone knocked on the door.
"Coming!" you chirped, skipping towards the entrance. You would have expected anyone but him. Oh shit, you wanted to whisper under your breath. Jim Hopper. Your father's best friend... was it really so cliché to feel such a visceral attraction to a man so older than you? But you couldn't help it. Jim was attractive — his entire presence was intoxicating. His massive body, his eyes so cold and deep at the same time, his hands so big — you had to force yourself, knowing you were blushing as you admired every inch of his body. You cleared your throat and smiled. "Chief Hopper, I wasn't expecting you!" you licked your lips, for a moment. As if to savor something sinful, which you knew was forbidden. “Have you come to arrest me?”
Jim grinned. He leaned against the doorframe, shrugging. “Not until you give me reason to put you in handcuffs.” The way you blushed — so visibly — was tremendously arousing. "Your mother just happened to tell me you were home alone. I just stopped by to make sure everything was okay."
You smiled widely. "Very thoughtful. I was about to watch a movie, actually. Come join me, come on." You turned your back to him, expecting him to follow. Hearing the door close behind him, you allowed yourself a deep breath. "Take a seat!" you exclaimed.
Jim didn't expect this. His muscles had reacted before he could even think — and thinking would have been harmful. Every single thing about that situation suggested a forbidden outcome… but he walked into the living room, sitting on the couch and stretching his back a moment before seeing you arrive with a six-pack of beer in your hand.
“Hope it's enough” you said, sitting down next to him.
Too close. Jim took a deep breath and smiled tightly, grabbing a can. On television you were watching Indiana Jones. "God, this teen movie gives me headaches" he said, shaking his head.
You laughed. “The choice was between this, Rocky and Gone with the Wind.”
"Christ, that Harrington guy is busy at the video store..."
His laugh sounded deep and lovely. You looked at him fascinated, turned towards him without paying any attention to the television, while he lit a cigarette. You would have loved to be that same cigarette, held between his lips, wet from the tip of his tongue... Jim barely looked at you. "What's up?"
You shook your head, smiling. “I missed this.”
"This what? Hawkins?" he blew out a cloud of smoke. "Indiana Jones?"
“Having you at home” you replied, whispering with a smile. Curling your legs up on the couch cushion, Jim noticed how close you were; the long shirt had ridden up enough to show your smooth thighs — he wanted to squeeze them in his entire hand, caress them everywhere, bite into them until he left marks. You're sick, Jesus Christ. But your smile grew bigger with your soft laugh. "Yes, having you here. I enjoyed talking to you, those few times."
"Yeah?" his voice was rough. And while you wondered if it's because of the cigarette, he knew it was only because of you. “Don't you prefer Steve's videotapes?”
"Don't be mean, Steve is a good guy."
"And that's what you're interested in? The good guys?"
“Not really” you said. You inhaled deeply, moving closer slowly, now you could almost touch each other. "The boys I'm interested in should be..."
Your hand caressed the collar of his shirt. Jim looked at you intently, unable to look away from your oh-so-scarlet cheeks, your lips so inviting, your breasts hidden under your shirt. He wanted to touch you everywhere — and it was so wrong, so transgressive, he madly wanted you. And you weren't doing anything to stop it.
"What should they be like?" he breathed.
You looked down, suddenly shy. "Well, would be better if they were the Chief of Police in Hawkins, for example."
Jim let you do it. In fact, he imperceptibly spread his legs when you decided to get on him, straddling his lap. You were beautiful, devastating. He wanted to tear every inch of fabric from your body and wrap you around himself... but his hands resisted, squeezing your hips with enough force to leave a mark. He was fucking hoping to leave them.
“You don't know what you're doing, kid.”
You grinned. "I haven't been a kid for a while, Hop."
Your lips fell on him, attacking him with all your passion. His hands were everywhere. They tore your shirt, took your soft young breasts in his palm, squeezed the firm and sensitive nipples between calloused fingertips until you squeaked. A small creature in the jaws of the wolf. Jim was ravenous. His tongue pushed into your mouth, he tasted every nuance of your skin, letting his mouth slide over your cheeks, your neck, he bit your lips and sucked them between his. It was delicious, sinful, wrong — fucking perfect.
Jim took off his shirt, unzipping his pants as the rest of your clothes fell to the floor. You were crazy, stuck together — he pulled you against his chest, slamming you into the couch cushions, falling on top of you and attacking your neck. His mouth was rough and his beard scratched every corner of your skin. "Christ — sweetheart. You're driving me crazy."
You moaned, he almost came at the sound of your desire-filled breaths. “Yes — oh, please — I want you so much, please.”
"'s that so?" Jim left bruises on your skin with every kiss, gripping your hips tightly as his lips slid south of your body. His fingers dug into the soft flesh of your buttocks. "This is what you wanted, isn't it? Get fucked on this couch?"
But you shook your head, your legs slowly opening, begging for his hands on your sweet sex. "No — just you. Jim, please. Touch me!" your desperate moan.
You felt his smile on your skin. He left a trail of small kisses on your groin, before caressing your soft lips and bathing your intimacy with his fingertips. You clung to him, to the feeling of his strong, intense body against yours; Jim was immense, his massive chest pushed you against the pillows, you had no escape. God, it felt good to be his. Lying beneath him, his two fingers swirling around that knot of nerves, you moaned deliciously and trembled.
Jim kissed you again. “Do you really want this?” He growled. "You want my fingers inside you? Do you — oh, you're so fucking wet, baby — do you want me to fuck you here, now?" and you nodded, opening your legs against his, begging for his touch. He chuckled, before digging into your neck and kissing you, sucking leaving red marks everywhere.
“Jim” you breathed his name.
"What is it, baby?"
"Jim — please. Your fingers, I wanna come!"
And his fingers entered you, thick and delicious, arching perfectly against the point that released all your pleasure. You clung to him, breathing in the scent of his body. He pushed them harder, deeper, squeezing and biting your shoulder, your breast, he swirled the tip of his tongue over your sensitive nipples. And when you were perfectly wet, completely shaken by the pleasure... "Good girl. Come — come for me" he growled.
And so you came, on his fingers. You kissed him, with all the passion and desperation of the moment, sliding your fingers over his bare chest.
“Darling, you kill me” Jim whispered against your lips, between kisses.
You smiled. "Not yet, love. Let me—"
You climbed on top of him, climbing up his body and sliding over his every muscle. Jim was big, and exciting, absolutely delicious. And you wanted to use your lips on him. His fingers combed through your hair as you moved down, tightening it tighter and tighter. "Oh fuck — baby, if you do that — ah — I don't think I can resist. You are, god —"
"I know, love." You kissed his bare thigh. "You don't have to resist. Just let go."
God, he was big. Thick and so — oh so hard. Fucking aching. And you would have alleviated all his pains: your lips opened on him like flower petals, welcomed him in the soft warmth of your mouth and, breathing deeply, wetting yourself up to your chin with saliva, you took him all. Jim groaned loudly, gripping your hair until it hurt, but it was perfect. You were completely his, and at the same time you had total control over his pleasure. You just wanted to taste him on your tongue. And you sucked it, without breathing, letting yourself be guided by his voracious, greedy hand, pushing you hard to take it all the way down your throat.
"Ah — god, sweetheart, you're going to make me — oh shit, I'm going to —"
Yes. You all wanted it. And you kept taking it all, sucking, licking until...
"Fuck!"
And with his orgasm, silence fell again.
You and Jim found yourselves a couple of hours later still naked, tired, exhausted to be honest. You lay next to each other on your bed, the sheets sweaty and undone just like the two of you. But Jim held you close to his chest, caressing your bare back and there was nothing you could want more.
You kissed his neck, and felt his smile. "Stay this weekend."
He inhaled cigarette smoke, and nodded. "I'll stay as long as you want."
"And I'll be back next weekend too."
Jim laughed. He kissed you hard on the lips and turned off the light, to sleep with you. Every weekend with you would be beautiful... he closed his eyes and kissed your forehead. He didn't confess to you that every minute spent together — as crazy as he was with desire — would be absolutely, totally perfect.
Bottom!FTM Hopper x Top!Masc Reader
Summary: Hopper falls in love, or lust, with the waiter at Benny's Burgers
↳ W.C 793
↳ [Event Request] | AFAB Language Used
CW: Non-Con to Con, Somnophilia, Obsession, Stalking, Restraints, Riding, Daddy Kink, Creampie
"My regular." Hopper says gruffly, sitting down and not looking at his server.
"Sorry, I'm new here, Chief." You smile. "What's your regular?"
Hopper looks at you for a moment, gulping at how attractive you are. He apologizes before telling you his order.
"I'll remember that for next time. Your order will be ready soon, sir."
And remember that you do, it's impossible to forget his regular since he started showing up at least once whenever you have a shift. He changed his order sometimes but it usually remained the same.
You assumed it was normal for him to be here so often but the truth is, he just loves seeing you. He hasn't been in a relationship in ages and he's never been good at flirting, so he takes the more...illegal route to get to you.
It didn't take long for him to get a file on you, thanks to his position as Chief it was no trouble at all, and learned a lot about you. Such as, your full name, your college, and where you live.
Unfortunately, you live in a dorm. But that won't hold him back, he'll just have to get the roommate out of the way.
Hopper enters your dorm with a copy of the key he stole from your roommate – who is perfectly fine, just at the police station being questioned for weed that isn't theirs – and walks into your room.
You're pretty much knocked out, sleeping peacefully and completely unaware of the cop handcuffing you to your bed. He unbuckles his belt and gets out of his pants.
He pulls off his underwear, drenched in slick, and brings it to your face. An amused expression on his face as he gags your mouth with it.
Hopper pulls your boxers off, glad to see you're already semi-hard. He wraps his lips around the head and lubes it up with his mouth. You groan in your sleep, the sounds are music to his ears.
He pulls away and climbs on top of you, sinking down onto your length. He holds onto your shoulders and grinds down on your cock. "Mm.." He moans, slowly sliding up your length before slamming down. He repeats the action over and over, reveling in the pleasure of it.
"Yes- yes-" He groans, moving faster and moaning your name. He bounces on your cock like he might never get the chance to do it again.
Your eyes shoot open, eyes darting around the room as you process the sudden pleasure you're receiving. You squirm around, still feeling like you're dreaming.
“Stop moving, just enjoy it.”
You look at the man on top of you, down from his cunt and up to his face. Chief Jim Hopper, you finally identify him as. The hot man who comes by the diner all the time, the hot man you'd never think to see riding your cock.
You buck your hips up into him, muffled noises coming from behind the makeshift gag in your mouth.
Hopper takes his underwear out of your mouth and tosses it to the floor.
“Fuck-” You groan. “Ch- chief- you feel so gh- good!”
Hopper moans. “It's Daddy.” He corrects.
You try to move your hands but you're stopped by the handcuffs restricting your wrists. “Le- let me touch you, Daddy-”
Hopper unlocks the handcuffs, your hands immediately moving to his waist. You take over, lifting him up and slamming him down. He wasn't expecting you to be able to move him like this. You roll your head back in pleasure. “Yes–” You gasp. “Fuck, I love your pussy, Daddy-”
Hopper can only moan, about to reach his peak. He furiously rubs himself as he gets closer, letting you do all the work as his pussy squeezes your cock.
He arches his back, coming just as you slam him down.
You move him onto his back, you on top, and slowly slide in and out of him. “Can I- can I come?” You ask, breathing heavily.
Hopper nods. “Come inside~”
You bring him into a sloppy kiss, your tongue swirling around his as you thrust harder and chase your release, the bed shaking as you fuck him.
The Chief moans into your mouth, arms and legs wrapping around your body like he thinks you’ll leave him.
It doesn't take you any longer for your thrusts to lose rhythm and your cock to release cum inside his awaiting hole.
You pull away from the kiss and catch your breath. “I like you a lot.” You reassure him, letting him know you're not just in love with his body.
He doesn't say anything, a light blush dusted on his cheeks, and brings you back into a kiss. His own way of saying it back.
Jim Hopper romancing the waitress at his favourite diner; Jim Hopper and a cozy, romantic Christmas setting; Jim Hopper finally following his true dreams and opening a food truck; Jim Hopper doing anything. ANYTHING.
(Anything? Deeply considered an 1800s!Whaler AU, so thank you for that.)
It was difficult to pick out the worst part of her evening.
Her soaking-wet apron and skirt from a spilled milkshake; docked tips for a burned cheeseburger that she hadn’t even cooked; only delivered; or her ex-fiancé that had shown up at the back door of the diner. He’d hollered for her for hours, apparently, until a cook hollered at her to get rid of him or he’d call the police. After spending twenty minutes physically shoving that menace away from the door, the manager had chewed her out for taking too long of a break. An extra ten minutes to sob in the bathroom had been necessary after that, mopping her tears with her stained apron until her cheeks were sticky from sugar. Then she’d straightened her hair and the jaunty hat of the diner uniform and gone back to work.
Wear that cap like a crown, Grandpa had coached her long ago. He’d thought, as she had, that a year or two of working at the diner between beauty pageants would earn her enough to splurge on the prettiest gowns. And then he’d died and she’d stopped competing and it had been a good ten years since she walked through the diner door bright-eyed and full of dreams.
Only three hours until closing. She could do anything for three hours.
Why was it so packed? It was a Monday night, usually one of the slower shifts, but after seeing elbow-to-elbow customers at the bar and shrieks from families in the booths, she nearly started to cry again.
You’re a princess, don’t forget that, bunny. Whatever you wear, make it your gown and crown.
Gown and crown. A dirty uniform and an itchy hat.
A deep, trembling breath rattled her lungs. Pad and pencil in her pocket, and she marched to a table of new customers.
Two hours left.
Ninety minutes left.
One hour left.
Not that she had much to look forward to at home. Home had lost its hominess after Grandpa died. Now it was four walls and a roof, paid for and inherited, with blankets crocheted by a grandmother she hadn’t met and a photograph of her long-dead mother covering the only unfaded section of wallpaper in the kitchen. It was the ghosts she hadn’t known or hadn’t had the chance to love that haunted her the most.
Time slowed.
Fifty-five minutes left.
Fifty minutes.
Forty-five.
Nearing closing time didn’t slow down the work. There were still tables to be bussed; dirty dishes to be stacked and cups to be dumped and more spills and stains waiting to make her dress and apron more worthy of a rag pile. She straightened napkin holders and salt and pepper shakers and shook ketchup bottles.
With a heave, she got a towering stack of dishes to the sink behind the counter. All of her customers had left; the ones remaining were Janie’s. They’d argue, after everyone had gone, whose job was worse: convincing lingering customers to get, or accidentally plunging one’s hand into lukewarm steak sauce.
She yanked on the faucet for a stream of water, plunging her hand in to wash off said steak sauce bit by bit.
“Have a nice night!” Janie, at least, would get tips. Tips that rattled right into her apron pocket as she whisked away more dishes to add to the tower. “Sorry,” she muttered. “I’ll split with you.”
She smiled, and said nothing.
“Speaking of,” Janie went on, emptying a few glasses of ice and watered-down Coke into the sink. “That fellow over there has been looking at you like you’re on the menu.”
“Yeah, right. I bet it’s my skirt that did him in.” Ruefully she showed Janie her stained apron. Janie’s eyes went wide.
“Why didn’t you say anything? I have an extra apron in the back…”
“It got my skirt, too.”
“A clean apron would have covered it!”
And then she would have had to wash and iron a second apron to return Janie’s to her. More work, more work, more work.
“Well,” Janie said. “At least tell him whether you’re on the menu or not, then he can leave.”
The he in question sat near the middle of the counter, a pie crust left on his plate. Her eyes went from his dishes to his elbows on the counter (rude) to massive paws of hands covering the lower half of his face. Up and up: he was watching her, just as Janie had warned. Good heavens.
She dried her hands on the damp towel hanging by the sink, put on her well-practiced false smile, and approached him. These things were best dealt with swiftly and confidently.
“I’ll take that for you,” she chirped, taking away his plate.
He lowered his hands, exposing the remainder of his face. He needed a shave and a trim, but not bad looking, overall. And he looked familiar. The glint of the suddenly-visible badge on his chest confirmed it—the police officer from a few towns over. Unusual for him to come this way, but not unheard of. “Thank you,” he said.
“Is there anything else I can get for you?”
“Uh…yeah.” The man smiled. Not, not a smile: a grin. There was a difference, when you’d worked in a diner this long. This was a bonafide, ear-to-ear grin like a teenage boy that had just successfully hotwired his first Mustang. “I was wondering…what’s a guy gotta do to get you to go on a date with him?”
Brazen, wasn’t he? Her smile was frozen in place. It was a thin line between chasing away customers and not opening oneself for business. She took a few steps back to the sink, running the plate beneath the faucet.
“Ask, probably.” Not a no, not a giggle and battered lashes. Thin line.
The man watched her a moment more. “You busy?”
Startled, she dropped the plate in the sink. And left it there. “Am I busy?” She took another plate from the stack, scraping soggy fries into the trash bin beneath the sink. He said nothing, and she didn’t, either. Anything bound to come out of her mouth at that point would be unkind. So she took another plate, and another, and another, casting him a pointed look that missed the mark completely.
“Yeah!” he said. “It’s a valid question!”
Speak for yourself, was her bitter, unspoken response. Rinsing off the dishes meant droplets sticking to her bare arms, usually tainted with sticky sauce that would have her running to the bath first thing when she got home. No matter how tired she was, she was never so tired that she would crawl into bed dirty.
“Yes,” she said at last, refreshing her smile to meet the man’s gaze square and sure. “I am busy.”
His lips stuck out, in a purse or in thought. She didn’t know, and she couldn’t bring herself to care. A glance at the clock: ten minutes until closing.
“I see,” the man said. “I’m sorry for bothering you.”
That was new. She stopped, staring as he got out his wallet to tug out a few bills. He only looked at her once more, with an apologetic smile, before tossing money onto the counter and climbing off the stool.
“Have a good night,” he said.
Well! How about that!
Shaking her head, she went back to the dishes. The rinsed stack grew, the trash bin filled, and her arms got wetter and wetter. The bell above the door chimed for a final time, Janie locking the door and pulling down the blinds.
The tub was empty. With a sigh she turned off the faucet, fingers soft from the water, and started stacking the dishes back inside.
“I’ll be back for the rest,” she said to Janie, who was closing the blinds behind the booths. Hoisting the tub up, she went to the door to the kitchen and went through elbow-first, the stink of fry oil making her tongue feel gross.
“Sorry about that burger,” said the man at the griddle. Faithfully he dragged his spatula over the burned bits, scraping them into a trash can.
“It’s okay, Paul,” she said. “Don’t worry about it.”
But Paul got a full paycheck without tips. She didn’t. It wasn’t worth pointing that out.
Louis and Mike chatted by the refrigerator. Around the corner to where Mary would be washing the dishes, and—
She stopped in her tracks.
The police officer man was elbow-deep in suds, Marry sitting on an upturned bucket as she fanned herself with an outdated menu.
“Just put them in,” Mary said. “He won’t mind.”
The man turned. He smiled for a split second before turning back.
She stared at Mary. Maryjust shrugged. The dishes were getting heavy.
“Don’t ask me,” Mary said. “He volunteered.”
But why?
Feet still planted where she stood, she could do no more than gawk as the man turned on his heel and took the tub of dishes from her. “No need to make a ceremony of it,” he said. This time he didn’t grin, but he smiled. It was a much more comforting expression. She surrendered the dishes weakly, hands falling to her sides.
Well, it wasn’t any of her business, anyway. Customers sometimes stuck around to help with one chore or another, out of boredom or kindness or a million other things. This man’s angle—for he surely had one—could be any one of them. And it had nothing to do with her.
“I was just telling Jim here about that crazy fellow of yours making a racket earlier,” Mary said cheerily. A break made her chatty. “He said next time he’ll remove the fellow for you.”
“We get the deputy from Pint Nevre, when we need one,” she said.
“I’m out here regularly, anyway,” the man said over his shoulder. “No skin off my teeth.”
Unsure of why he was helping, or wanting to help again, or why he’d stayed or why she couldn’t tear her eyes away from his thick shoulders moving with his scrubbing each plate to put on the drying rack—she wrung her apron in her hands. Dry, but stiff, and it would make her hands smell like chocolate.
The man looked back again. He was smiling again. “Just ask for Jim,” he said. “Jim Hopper.”
request?: yes!
“Oh my fucking god, I’m not the person who asked for Hopper but holy fucking shit balls. Maybe like you and Hopper go out one night just to get drunk and you do the like hand comparison thing and he just absolutely wants you then and there. But like his pov with a side of inner turmoil because he’s nervous about what would happen afterwards? I don’t really know, so basically anything, there’s not enough Hop on here.”
description: when they go out for a couple of drinks after work, neither of them expected it to end the way it did
pairing: jim hopper x female!reader
warnings: swearing, drinking, hinted smut but nothing detailed, slight age gap (hopper is mid 40s, reader is late 20s) and slight power imbalance (hopper is police chief, reader is newly appointed officer)
masterlist (one, two)
My usual drink was waiting for me in my usual spot as I entered the bar. I knew that should’ve concerned me, but it was yet another long day and I needed something to take the edge off. So I sat up on the stool that became my “regular spot” and took a sip from the beer that had become my “regular drink”.
I usually drank alone on nights like this, but this particular night a familiar voice asked, “Mind if I join you, chief?”
I looked over my shoulder to see our new rookie, (Y/F/N). She was still in her uniform, likely also just off from her shift. I hadn’t had a lot of interaction with her since her promotion, but I remembered her being an incredible trainee in her early days.
Not to mention she’s cute.
“Of course,” I said, gesturing to the empty stool next to me. “It’s a free country.”
She sat up next to me and ordered a pint of beer for herself. I glanced over at her as I raised my drink to my lips. There are certain ways to tell when a cop is new to the force and that is by how young they appear. (Y/N) still had that beautiful, youthful look to her. She had yet to face anything to cause the lines to form on her face or for streaks of grey to appear in her hair.
“Hard day, chief?” she asked.
“You can call me Jim, (Y/N). We’re not on the clock,” I told her. Not that many people ever actually called me by my first name, on or off the clock. I just wanted to hear how it sounded coming form her mouth. “And every day is a hard day on the force.”
She didn’t respond. I didn’t blame her. How are you supposed to respond to the off duty police chief having yet another existential crisis?
“It’s not that bad,” I admitted. “When you’ve been a cop as long as I have, you just see things you can never unsee. But you’re also protecting people and saving lives. That’s worth something.”
“I know. My dad was an officer, actually. He’s told me all the stories.”
“Really? Would I know him?”
she shook her head as she took another sip of her pint. “I’m not from Hawkins. I moved here after I finished police school. It was...well, it was the only place looking for new recruits.”
She could’ve been a big, hot shot cop in a big city, but instead had to settle for our small town. That’s how dreams die.
“But I like it here,” she added. “I do. Hawkins is a nice little town and the people here are...”
“Nice?” I offered.
She chuckled. “Yeah, I guess so.”
When I noticed her drink was almost empty, I ordered her another one on my tab.
We were there for a few hours, drinking the night away. (Y/N) could handle her alcohol a lot better than I thought she could. She was easily keeping up with me and only started to show any signs of inebriation when I started to feel my own beer hit me.
“One more for me, bartender,” she said, raising a hand to get the bartender’s attention. Her words were slightly slurred as she spoke.
“I think you’ve had enough,” I said, reaching out to lower her hand. “You need some water before you go anywhere.”
She looked at my hand on hers. I could feel her skin warm against mine. I should’ve let go. I didn’t need to be holding her hand for this long. But her hand was so warm and so soft. I didn’t want to let go of her.
A small smile spread across her face as she slipped her hand from mine just long enough to hold up her open palm. She took the hand that was just holding her own and placed it, open, against hers. A drunken giggled escaped from her lips as she looked at the juxtaposition between the size.
“Your hand is so much bigger than mine,” she said. “You could fit, like, both of my hands in one of yours.”
Her hand was much smaller than mine. Her fingertips just barely reached the second joints of my fingers. Actually, she was a lot smaller than me in general; her entire stature was much smaller than I was. I could likely hold both her hands effortlessly in one of mine.
Which made me picture both of her wrists locked in one of my hands. My larger body towering over her smaller one. My name coming from her lips in between a string of moans and whimpers. That warm, soft skin pressed against my -
I quickly pulled my hand away from hers and turned to the bartender to order a water for (Y/N).
I couldn’t have those thoughts about her. There was so much wrong with that scenario, namely the fact that I was her superior and over a decade older than her. It was wrong, those thoughts were wrong. But now that I had gotten them in my head they wouldn’t go away. I couldn’t even look at her without those images flashing before my eyes.
“Did you drive here?” I asked her. She nodded as she started gulping down her water. “Listen, I don’t feel comfortable with you driving home in this state, even if you sober up a little, and I don’t want to leave you drunk at a bar on your own. I’m gonna drive you home, and you can come back to get your car in the morning.”
“But you’ve been drinking, too,” she pointed out.
“I’m much more sober than you are, honey,” I assured her. She didn’t make a comment on the pet name, and I hoped she’d be too drunk to even remember it later on.
I paid for our drinks despite her protests and guided her out to my car. She didn’t seem too drunk while walking, which made me wonder if I should’ve just let her drive home on her own. I didn’t lie when I said I didn’t want her to drive home after drinking, but I also wanted these last few moments together before I had to force things back to normal the next day.
“I appreciate this, Jim,” she said after giving me her address.
“What kind of police chief would I be if I let our rookie drive home drunk?” I asked, a light tone in my voice.
“The kind who drives after he’s already been drinking?” she offered.
I chuckled. “Okay, touché.”
She rested her head against the window. Her face lit up as we drove under the street lights. As we would approach another light, I couldn’t help but glance over to get a glimpse at her beautiful face.
God, I’m helpless here. How do I stop myself from doing something I’ll regret?
“Are you from close to Hawkins?” I asked, trying to make small talk. “Originally, I mean.”
“About a five hour drive away,” she responded.
“So not close at all really. Do you get to see your family a lot at least?”
She nodded. “My parents drive in every other weekend. We talk on the phone all the time, too. They miss me and they wish I had gotten a job at our local department so I was closer to home, but they’re proud of me.”
“As they should be. Becoming a cop isn’t easy, as your dad probably knows.”
“School was tough, and I’m kind of worried about the first day I see something traumatizing, but it’s like you said: we do good, too. I just hope the good outweighs the bad.”
“It does. Eventually, it goes.”
“Do you have any kids, Jim?”
I felt myself tense at the question. My blood ran cold and my grip on the steering wheel tightened until my knuckles were white.
“I used to,” I said, my voice icier than I meant it to be.
She looked at me with wide eyes. “Oh my God, I’m so sorry. I knew that. I should’ve have said...I should’ve remembered...shit, Jim, I’m so sorry.”
I shook my head, focusing my attention on the road. “No, don’t be sorry. It was years ago and...and you’re drunk. You weren’t thinking straight.”
“It’s still not easy to lose a kid, though.”
We were silent the rest of the way to her place. I felt a sense of dread as I pulled into her driveway. I really did not want this time to end, but I had no other reason to keep things going. Once she got out of my car and went inside, she’d fall asleep and wake up sober. When I saw her at the station the next day, she’d be referring to me as Chief Hopper again, and I’d just be stuck with the memory of tonight being a far away fantasy I could never have again.
“Are you still with your wife, Jim?” she asked.
The question took me by surprise. “Uh...no. We...we divorced a long time ago.”
She was slowly unbuckling her seatbelt, her gaze slowly drifting to me as if she were contemplating what I had said. Suddenly, she was out of her own seat and on my lap. Her lips were roughly pressed against mine, her hands around the back of my head, holding me to her. Instinctively, arms went around her waist and I began to kiss her back. It was the one thing I had wanted to do all night and now that it was finally happening, I wasn’t sure if I was dreaming or not. If this was a dream, I never wanted to wake up.
Her hips moved down so her crotch brushed against mine. I groaned in pleasure at the contact and she used this to her advantage by slipping her tongue into my mouth. The taste of alcohol on her tongue was enough to snap me out of my trance and to realize what was happening. I pulled away from her. She tried to move with me, but I put a hand against her shoulder to move her away from me.
“Shit,” she said, her face flushed with embarrassment. “Shit, I’m sorry. That was way out of line, I shouldn’t have done that.”
“You’re drunk. It’s fine,” I assured her.
She shook her head. “No, no I’m not drunk. I haven’t been at all. I was a bit tipsy back at the bar, but I haven’t gotten further than a light buzz.”
I was shocked at her revelation. “But...you were okay with me driving you home. I thought you were too drunk to drive.”
“I wanted to be alone with you.”
I almost laughed I was so shocked. This entire time I was having these thoughts and telling myself I wouldn’t be able to act on them, and it turns out she was having the exact same thoughts, too.
“Did I make a total fool of myself?” she asked. “I can just go, we can just forget this ever happened.”
In response, I put a hand on the back of her head and pulled her towards me to kiss her again. I could feel her body relaxing against mine.
I couldn’t let the kiss be long lived, though, as I reluctantly pulled away again. “Go inside and get yourself sober. If you still feel like this in the morning when all the alcohol is out of your system, we can try it again.”
She smiled brightly at me. “Don’t be surprised if I kiss you the minute I see you tomorrow, then.”
I smiled back at her. “I’ll be waiting.”
A story request where hopper is your dad's best friend and you definitely should not be attracted to him and the same goes with him, he should definitely not be attracted to you because of your big age gap but at the end they don’t care about what people would say about them and they start being together after days of teasing. Thank you in advance🫶🏻
I love me some Hopper and an age gap fic. I hope this is what you were looking for and you enjoy it <3
Never proofread
Dad's best friend
Jim Hopper, many know him as the chief of police, some know him as El's dad, but Y/N knew him as the man in her wet dreams. The man she has been attracted to since she met him at sixteen, and she knew how wrong it was. She was too young for him and he was her best friend's dad. But she was a young girl and it was a tiny crush, she'd be over it in no time.
Now, she was twenty-one and still crushing on Jim Hopper, even worse than before. She always found him attractive, but now he was fit, lean, and even more handsome than before. She felt like she could barely control herself when she was near him. All she thought about was him bending her over and screaming his name for hours. She wanted him to cuff her to the bed and ruin her for hours. His deep voice growled in her ear as he emptied himself inside of her.
But that would never happen, because it was wrong. Yet, she found herself flirting with him whenever she could. She loved the pissed-off look on his face, but the hungry look in his eyes. He wanted her too.
Liking a girl that was many years younger than him was something Hopper struggled with for years. His best friend's daughter Y/N has been prancing around him since the second she was eighteen.
He knew it was so wrong to be attracted to her, but he couldn't help it. He tried to brush off her advances toward him. Ignoring her flirtatious looks and the lust in her eyes. He had to fight himself every day not to take her right where she stood and ruin her.
~~~
On her twenty-second birthday, she was out of patience. She didn't care what people thought of them or how much her date would hate it. She just needed to have him, even if it was just one time.
She knocked on his door, praying El wasn't home. Hopper opened the door and he didn't look surprised to see her there.
"Is El home?" She asked, he looked at her confused and shook his head no.
"Good." She said, then threw her arms over his shoulders and smashed her lips on his. She tried not to think, just focusing on the feeling of his lips and his beard scratching her skin.
Hopper wanted to pull away, he knew he should have pulled away, but he found himself grabbing the back of her thighs, lifting her, and slamming her against the wall. He closed the door with his foot, smashing his lips against hers. His big hands held her thighs as she locked her ankles around him.
His tongue pushed into her mouth and she moaned at the taste of him. The mixture of beer and cigarettes was the best thing she's ever tasted. Her hands moved up to his shaved head and clawed down his neck. She rolled her hips against him, loving the deep grunt that left his throat.
They knew they'd have to hear about the town hating their relationship, and that many wouldn't accept it. But they didn't care, she wanted to be with him and he wanted to be with her.
~~~
After a few months of being together, they knew they made the right choice. El loved their relationship and loved having Y/N around. Y/N was young enough to enjoy the same things with El and Hopper loved watching them connect.
The town had negative things to say about her and things to say about him being the chief. But he focused on the laughs and smiles that were shared at the dinner table. He loved cleaning up the kitchen as Y/n sang quietly. He loved sneaking under the covers when El went to bed.
Hopper had the small family he's been looking for.
Requests: Steve adopting an abandoned child post earthquake in Hawkins after the spring break from hell. And him realizing all the ways he was hurt as a child due to his parents neglect. And how he overcomes it and raises his baby-child with gentleness, warmth, patience and love
OKAY GENUINELY I GOT SO CARRIED AWAY WITH THIS PROMPT AND IT STILL WASN'T AS MUCH AS I WANTED TO DO. FAIR WARNING: this is an emotional roller coaster. It ends HAPPY. But there are a lot of sad and bittersweet moments and feelings leading up to that moment. There is the mention of child neglect, and that can be difficult for some people to read, even with a happy ending, so please keep that in mind before starting this. Also, this is not how the law or CPS works at all, and it wasn't in the 80s either, but this is fiction and I do what I want. I hope someone can continue this idea somewhere because it is so special to me now. This is 6200 words of me not knowing how to wrap it up with a bow. I hope you love this my darling, thank you for this one. - Mickala ❤️
----------------------------------------------
Steve spent the last 12 hours pacing the waiting room floor at the hospital. He’d promised the kids he would stay until there was an update on Eddie and Max, and their parents had insisted they go home after they’d been quickly attended to for their minor injuries.
Max was stable, but not awake. They weren’t sure if she ever would be again. Steve passed that on to Nancy so she could call everyone.
Eddie finally made it out of surgery, alive, but barely.
He’d lost a lot of blood and they weren’t able to give him a transfusion until Wayne got there to donate.
It was touch and go for another few hours in recovery.
But things calmed down a bit, his heart rate settling at a normal rate, his oxygen maintaining where it should be with the mask on, the bleeding stopped and his blood regenerating on its own.
He wasn’t awake, but he was alive.
That was enough for Wayne and Hopper to kick him out of the hospital and make him go home.
“Shower. Eat. Sleep. In that order, Harrington,” Hopper said, the gruffness in his voice overruled by the concern.
He was up to speed on everything he missed, and he wasn’t thrilled about how much Steve had put on the line for everyone.
So Steve left, even though he wanted to stay, needed to have eyes on Eddie, on Max.
He had to trust that they were being taken care of.
He made it home, did two of the three things Hopper told him to. His shower was long and hot, finally able to wash away the blood and dirt and Upside Down particles that clung to his skin for the last couple of days. His dinner was quick and unfulfilling, but frozen meals usually are.
And then he did try to sleep. He tried on the couch first, his usual go-to spot after crises. Then he tried to go to his bed, hoping the weight of his comforter would help lull him to sleep.
But two hours later, he was still wide awake.
So he got up, put on jeans and a sweater, and made his way to the school, where emergency services had been set up.
It was chaotic, still very little organization amongst groups. The firefighters had been dispatched all over town, and most medical professionals had been called into the hospital or to help EMTs on calls. A handful of teachers had been put in charge of the check-in process here, making sure anyone who came through was on a list of survivors first, then sent to help where they were needed if they were able.
Steve was able, so he put his name on the list and was told to stand with a group at the far corner of the gym. Everyone in this group was waiting for a dispatch crew of firefighters to come get them to help locate survivors.
They were given vests, gloves, and helmets to wear, and given quick safety briefings. They were told not to move any rubble, that if they suspected someone was under some, to call for the professionals. They were just extra eyes and ears because everyone was stretched too thin for a disaster of this magnitude and help from local towns was slow to arrive.
Steve figured this would help him, if he stayed busy and managed to help people, he wouldn’t think about how helpless he was when it came to Max and Eddie.
The first location they were dropped at was a small neighborhood on the outskirts of town. Most of the homes had been completely demolished, cracks in the ground swallowing pieces of them. If there were any survivors here, they would be in desperate need of medical attention.
But after nearly four hours of searching, only one person was found, their leg trapped under a large wooden beam. The leg was broken, but they were fine other than that.
Steve felt relief that nothing more serious had happened there.
But the second area was worse.
It wasn’t a neighborhood, just a small wooded area surrounding two homes a good distance apart. Surprisingly, the homes were still standing, but everything around them was destroyed. Fires had been only recently extinguished, downed trees and power lines blocking most of the driveway and road in front of them.
“This should be relatively quick, both homes are empty and cars are gone, so we think everyone managed to get out safely, but we do need to be sure,” the firefighter in charge of this group said before leading them forward.
The smaller of the two houses was empty, though a mess, like the occupants had rushed to pack necessities and threw anything else on the ground as they rushed to get out.
The other home, though, was surprisingly clean. Kept up in a way Steve wouldn’t have expected for the panic most people showed while escaping town.
Everyone assumed maybe the occupants hadn’t even been home when the quake hit.
But Steve decided to go upstairs anyway.
Something was telling him this wasn’t normal.
It felt familiar in a way he didn’t want to acknowledge yet.
No one else followed him, all of the volunteers congregating in the living room area to discuss their next location before heading back to the school for a break.
Steve followed his gut, and his gut told him to check the bedroom at the end of the hall.
He opened the door, not surprised to see that nothing seemed strange at first glance.
Then he saw movement out of the corner of his eye, under the bed.
He would’ve checked there anyway, that’s where he would have hidden in this kind of situation, too.
“I guess this place is all clear,” Steve said, quiet enough not to be heard by anyone downstairs yet, but loud enough to be heard by the person under the bed.
“Wait!”
It was a kid, Steve figured as much based on the items on the desk in the corner and the poster on the wall.
The small boy crawled out from under the bed, panic on his face.
“Are you gonna take me to my parents?” The boy asked, lips wobbling.
“I’m gonna try. I’m Steve, what’s your name?”
“Elliott.”
“Nice to meet you, Elliott. How old are you?”
“Nine.”
Jesus Christ. Where had his parents even been? Why weren’t they looking for him?
He hoped they were on their way back and just stuck trying to get into town.
But a part of him had already known that wasn’t true. A part of him knew the moment they pulled into the area that he’d find someone left here, someone who shouldn’t have ever been alone.
“Alright, Elliott, let’s get you back to the school. We can put your name on the list so your parents can find you easier, okay? I can stay with you until they get here.”
“I don’t know if they will.”
Steve’s heart stopped for a moment.
Sure, his parents never came back after the Upside Down bullshit, but he’d been a teenager and adult. They probably assumed he wasn’t involved in any of it and was fine.
But Elliott was nine. Even his parents would have come back for him at that age.
They never should have left him alone to begin with, but even they knew the trouble they’d be in for leaving him at that age after a fucking earthquake.
“Of course they will, buddy. It’s just hard getting into Hawkins right now, you’ll see on our way back.”
He placed his hand on Elliott’s shoulder, not surprised when he tensed up under him for a moment before he relaxed.
Steve hadn’t been used to casual touch until he met Nancy.
But Elliott deserved to feel cared for right now, so he kept his hand there, let him get used to it for a moment, and then guided him out the door and down the stairs.
Most of the group had moved back outside, but a few people remained.
One of the few women in the group looked over at his entrance, her jaw dropping when she saw he had a child with him.
“Oh my God!”
Steve held his hand up, knowing Elliott probably didn’t want to draw a lot of attention to himself.
“He’s okay. He managed to find a safe place to hide. His parents might be looking for him though so we should get him back,” Steve said calmly.
No one crowded him, but the firefighter waiting by the van that was transporting everyone checked his heart and lungs, made sure he didn’t have any visible wounds or injuries.
Elliott didn’t let go of Steve the entire time, his hand gripping his forearm like he was terrified to lose him among the group.
Steve didn’t try to pull away, not once.
He knew Elliott needed someone. He could be that someone for him.
—-------------
When they arrived back at the school, they put his name on the list, and since he was a minor, they had him go to one of the classrooms that was being watched over by security while they tried to contact his parents.
He told them they left for a business trip over a week ago, he didn’t know when they would be back, and his aunt checked on him every morning, but he hadn’t seen her since the quake.
Steve stood by as he spoke to the responsible adults, not letting Elliott out of his sight.
Elliott begged for Steve to come with him to wait while they tried to locate his parents, so he did.
He realized pretty quickly that Elliott must not have slept last night; He curled against Steve’s side on the floor almost immediately and fell asleep, light snores making Steve smile to himself.
The floor was hard, the wall behind him was somehow harder, but he wouldn’t move short of another emergency.
They stayed like that for hours, kids coming and going as more were found and reunited with their families.
Elliott was the youngest one left in the room, all the other kids high school age.
When one of the men from the group he was in earlier came in the room to get another kid, he asked if there was any update on Elliott.
“Nah, they’re still trying to find them. The aunt um…” The guy looked nervously down at the sleeping Elliott. “She didn’t make it. Was on her way to try to get him when another crack hit the road she was driving on, car crashed. They contacted the dad’s business and were told he’s out of the country and won’t be returning calls until next week.”
“How long are they gonna make him stay here while they figure it out?”
“No clue, man. I’ll ask someone.”
But he didn’t come back and Elliott deserved something better than the floor to sleep on.
“Hey, buddy,” Steve said, gently nudging his shoulder to wake him up. “Sorry, just gotta run and ask someone something real quick.”
Elliott grabbed his shirt, holding it in his fist tightly.
“Don’t go! Please,” he begged, tears welling in his eyes.
Steve’s heart broke.
He’d been this kid for so much of his childhood, practically begging people to stick around so he didn’t have to be drenched in loneliness again.
He knew he would be right back, but to Elliott, especially after the quake, he probably felt like anyone who left would be gone forever.
“Come with me. We’ll find you some dinner while I find out how things are going.”
He stood up, his legs numb from sitting on the floor so long, and helped Elliott find his balance after waking up so abruptly.
They left the room, the security nodding them on when he saw Steve was with him, and walked down the hall to the cafeteria area.
They were serving ham and cheese sandwiches, bags of chips, and water for everyone. It wasn’t much, but it was enough for now.
If he could find a phone, maybe he could get Robin to bring him and Elliott more food.
Elliott shyly thanked the person handing out the meals, and Steve slowly guided him to an empty table while his eyes searched for anyone he recognized.
He almost did a happy dance when he saw Dustin and Claudia across the room.
“Hey, that’s actually my friend and his mom. Can you wait here while I grab them?”
Elliott nodded nervously, clearly only letting him walk away because he would be within his sight the entire time.
Steve ran over to them, wincing slightly when the bite on his stomach started pulsing. Probably should take it easier while that healed.
“Dustin!” Steve exclaimed as he got closer.
Dustin’s head shot around, smile lighting up his face as he realized it was Steve.
“Dude! Everyone’s been trying to find you for hours. Have you been here all day?”
“Kinda. I came to help with searching and I found a kid earlier. They’re trying to find his parents, but he’s been kind of attached to me.”
“Damn, I hope they find them soon. Phone lines keep going down. You seen Hopper come by yet?”
“No, has he gotten any sleep yet?”
“Doubt it. Ma, do you have any cookies left for Steve?”
Claudia came bustling over, digging through her purse as she walked.
“Oh, I’m sure I do! Hi, Steve, dear. Hope you’re doing okay in all this madness.”
“I’m doing alright,” Steve gave her a small smile as she managed to find the cookies and hand them over. “Hey, do you know the parents of Elliott Devers?”
“Oh, I know of them, sure. Only met them once, they never seem to be in town. He’s a sweet boy, his aunt seems to take care of him most of the time.”
Steve filled her in on what he knew so far, that Elliott’s aunt had died, that no one could reach his parents, that he’d been alone in the house for at least a full day before Steve found him.
That Elliott didn’t seem to want to be separated from Steve.
Dustin was watching him talk, eyebrows furrowing like he was trying to think of something.
“Wait, his dad’s the guy who was under investigation for tax evasion, fraud, and identity theft, isn’t he?”
Steve’s stomach dropped.
His brain made connections that only children of rich parents can in a matter of seconds.
His parents ran to another country on “business” because that was the only way they were allowed to leave while he was under investigation. No one could reach them because they gave fake information so they could go into hiding. Because he was guilty of all of the things he was under investigation for and didn’t want to lose everything and end up in prison.
Fuck.
Claudia must have realized the same thing, a deep frown settling on her face.
“Elliott is the boy sitting at that table?” She asked as she pointed towards him.
He was watching them as he ate, eyes wide as he kept glancing around the room.
Steve nodded.
“If they ran, and they aren’t coming back, where will he go?” Steve asked.
“I’m sure he’ll be placed with a family who can take him until they can figure out a more permanent place, but that may be hard right now with so many people leaving Hawkins. He may have to leave town,” Claudia said, though Steve could tell she was trying to figure out how to take him in, even if only for a few days.
“What would I have to do to keep him while they keep looking?”
“Oh, that’s a question for Hopper, sweetie. I’m not sure you’d fit the requirements, even though I think he’d be very lucky to get to stay with you,” Claudia touched his arm, giving it a gentle squeeze in comfort.
“Is he coming by?”
“Hopper? Yes, he just got done at the hospital handling some things for Edward,” Claudia said.
“Eddie, Ma, how many times do I have to tell you?”
“The tone! Watch it!” Steve said before Claudia could respond.
She smirked at Steve, then gave Dustin a look that said she wasn’t going to listen to him and walked away.
“I gotta go with her, she’s bringing dinner to Wayne at the hospital.”
“Is Eddie awake?”
“Not yet, but they think it could be anytime. They said the drugs in his system are heavy enough to keep him out for a while.”
“But he seems okay?”
“Yeah.”
“Max?”
He almost didn’t want to ask, but he had to.
“No news.”
Steve nodded once, acknowledging that Dustin didn’t want to talk about it right now, that it was tough to even think about how she was probably not gonna wake up anytime soon if ever.
“Hey, come by my house tomorrow, okay? We can watch a movie or somethin’.”
“Sure.”
Steve gave Dustin a quick hug before making his way back to Elliott, who looked like he might start crying any moment.
“Hey, buddy. Sorry that took longer than I thought, but…” Steve pulled the bag of cookies from behind his back with a smile. “I got cookies! Claudia makes the best chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. You’ll love them.”
Elliott relaxed a little, smiling up at Steve as he reached for the bag of cookies.
“Is she nice? She looks nice.”
“She’s awesome. She always brings me soup if I’m sick.”
“Is that what moms do? My aunt sometimes does, but she doesn’t know how to make the kind I like.”
Steve bit his lip.
“What kind do you like?”
“My favorite is tomato and noodles. She can only make chicken noodle. It’s okay, but sometimes it has a funny taste.”
Steve smiled at him, glad he was at least talking, even if what he was saying was heartbreaking.
“I’m sure Claudia can make you some tomato and noodles. I’ll call and ask.”
“But not now, right?”
Elliott’s voice filled with panic, his eyes widening.
“No, I’m staying with you right now. The chief should be here soon and we can figure out what’s going on, okay?”
“Like, the chief of police? You know him?”
“Yeah, Hopper’s nice. Don’t let his mean face scare you. He’s kind of a teddy bear.”
“Excuse you, I’m not a teddy bear. I’m a grizzly bear,” Hopper said behind Steve.
Elliott laughed, and Hopper tried to hide a small smile. Teddy bear.
“Are you Elliott?” Elliott nodded. “Can we go talk for a few minutes just us? I promise Steve can wait right outside the door.”
Hopper gave Steve a look that said he was about to ruin this kid’s day as if it didn’t already suck enough.
“Um, can Steve come in the room too?”
“If you want him to, sure.”
“I want him to.”
“Okay then, let’s go.”
Steve grabbed everything off the tables, throwing the trash away on the walk towards the teacher’s lounge area that had been set up for the cops to conduct phone calls and interviews as needed.
It was empty now, probably thanks to Hopper taking control quickly.
They sat down around a table, Elliott’s hand finding Steve’s quickly.
“Alright, Elliott, so I have a few questions and then I have some news,” Hopper started, his voice maintaining no emotion the way he’d been taught.
“Okay.”
“How long have your parents been gone this time?”
“I dunno. A week, maybe a little longer.”
“And you were alone that whole time?”
Elliott looked to Steve, like he needed help to answer, but Steve just smiled at him and mouthed ‘just be honest, you’re not in trouble.’
“Most of the time. My aunt came to check on me in the mornings and bring me food for the day.”
“Aunt Janice?”
“Yeah.”
“Bud, I’m sorry to tell ya this, but your Aunt Janice was in a really bad accident and didn’t make it,” Hopper’s voice started to show some emotion, but Steve squeezed Elliott’s hand so he wouldn’t focus on that.
“She died?”
“Yeah, bud. I’m sorry.”
“But who will bring me food in the morning?”
Steve couldn’t do this. Holy shit, he could not do this. How was Hopper able to do this?
“Well, we still haven’t been able to call your parents. Do you know exactly where they might be?”
“I don’t know. They don’t tell me where they go.”
Steve and Hopper looked at each other.
Hopper knew Steve had been in a similar position when he was younger, but no one checked on him. Hopper had often been the one to show up at his door during his early teens to make sure he had food and wasn’t hurt.
“What if he stayed with me until you find them?” Steve asked Hopper.
Elliott turned to him.
“I can stay with you?” He asked excitedly.
“Oh, I’m not sure about that. There’s a process for this kinda thing,” Hopper began.
“Then start the process. He’s staying with me,” Steve said firmly, not caring if he sounded rude, not caring if Hopper hated him for it, just wanting Elliott safe and in a house instead of a school converted to a disaster relief zone.
Hopper eyed him up and down, and the way Elliott was holding his hand and bouncing excitedly in his chair.
“Alright, fine. But it’s a week by week basis until we can get ahold of his parents,” Hopper said directly to Steve.
“Steve, do you have a microwave? I make popcorn so good, like so good. I can make it tonight even!”
Steve smiled at him, and then at Hopper, who was watching with a fond smile.
“I’m sure I have what you need to make some popcorn, buddy.”
“You wait here, I have to get the release from CPS. They’re in the front office.”
Elliott went on and on about all the things they could do while he stayed with him, and when he found out Steve had a pool, he didn’t even stop for breath as he explained that he was the best swimmer when they took a field trip last year to the pool and that he could probably even beat Steve in a race.
Steve just smiled and agreed.
—-----------------------
A week with Elliott went by, and it was easy.
Steve was terrified how quickly he just fit in.
He fit in at his house, making it feel like a home, with his rambunctious energy and nightly popcorn making.
He fit in with the kids, showing interest in D&D even though he’d never heard of it before.
He even fit with Robin, who kind of hated kids, but thought Elliott was probably the cutest kid she’d ever met.
One night, while Dustin and Mike were showing Elliott how to build a character, Robin asked him the question he’d been dreading.
“What happens if he can’t stay?”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m assuming they’ll find his parents soon, and when they do, he’ll have to go live with them again. Or at least his mom since his dad will be in prison for life at this rate. How are you gonna handle that?”
He had no clue. He wanted Elliott to have parents who stuck around, and who loved him, and let him pop popcorn every night.
But realistically, even if they did come back, that wasn’t what his life would look like.
His life would be a lot like Steve’s was, sad and lonely, and he didn’t deserve that.
“I’m gonna fight for him. I don’t know what that means yet, but I know that whatever is best for him is what I’m gonna make sure happens.”
Robin wrapped him up in a hug, her arms squeezing him to her.
“You’re gonna be a great dad someday.”
No one had ever said that to him before.
But maybe he could believe it.
—-------------------------------------
Steve was the first person to come to the hospital when Eddie woke up, Elliott excitedly chattering from the backseat of his car the whole way.
It was helping Steve’s nerves, but he knew he wasn’t giving Elliott the attention he needed.
“Sorry, buddy. What was that?”
Elliott was quiet for a moment.
“Are you worried?”
Steve smiled at him in the rearview mirror, his hands gripping the wheel tight.
“A little. You remember how everyone told you about Eddie? How he saved us all and almost died?”
“Yeah, he’s a hero!”
“He is. But he’s still healing and I’m just worried about how hurt he is.”
“Oh. So we can’t hug him or hold his hand to help him feel better?” Elliott groaned. “Oh man, I was gonna bring him popcorn!”
Steve laughed quietly to himself.
“I think he’s on a pretty strict diet right now, buddy. Maybe when he’s out of the hospital we can have him over for a movie and you can make him some.”
“When will he be out?”
“I dunno yet. I think it might still be a little while.”
“Will I still live with you then?”
Steve gulped.
“I hope so.”
“Me too,” Elliott said quietly, staring out the window as they pulled into the hospital parking lot.
His mood was a bit somber as they walked through the halls of the bustling hospital, going to the fifth floor in the elevator where Eddie’s room was.
When he got to the right room, he knocked on the door even though it was open, smiling in at Wayne.
“Hey, come in, Steve. Eddie, Steve’s here,” Wayne said as he turned to Eddie, who was awake, but mostly horizontal still in bed.
“Steve?” Eddie’s rough voice asked.
“Hey, Eds. Hope it’s okay I brought my buddy, Elliott, to say hi. He’s heard a lot about you and Dustin and Mike and Will have been teaching him D&D for when you get out of here.”
Steve walked close to the bed, holding Elliott’s hand. He seemed shy suddenly, which wasn’t like him, not since he was living with Steve.
“Hey, Elliott. You keepin’ Steve company?”
“Yes, sir.”
Wayne snorted.
“Oh, son, you don’t have to be formal with Eddie. He’s barely older than you in his head.”
Eddie glared at Wayne, but smiled at Elliott.
“Seriously, bud, just Eddie is fine. So you ready for a campaign?”
“I dunno. Dustin said maybe I can play with you guys?”
“‘Course you can. I have so many ideas when I get outta here.”
Eddie turned to Steve and gave him a smirk.
“As long as we can host at your place?”
Steve blushed, remembering the last time he had Eddie’s full attention on him, back when his words “make him pay” sounded a lot like “I love you.”
“Yeah. Yeah, we can do that. When do you get out of here?”
Elliott was loosening his anxious grip on Steve’s hand as the nerves wore off.
“They said not for a couple weeks, but I’m gonna walk right out of here the moment I can feel my legs again.”
Elliott let out a giggle and Eddie smiled.
“You can help me, right? I may need some support to run for it.”
“No! You have to stay until you’re all better, goofball.”
“That’s exactly what I told him, Elliott. You’re much wiser than he is,” Wayne said with a roll of his eyes.
Elliott moved closer to the side of the bed, his hands folded in front of him.
“Um. Could I hold your hand? So you feel better?”
Steve was going to cry.
Eddie kind of looked like he might, too.
“Yeah, I could use a hand to hold, bud. Thanks for offering. Wayne’s hand gets sweaty, but don’t tell him I said that,” he whispered the last part to Elliott, but loud enough so everyone could still hear.
Elliott held his hand, sitting carefully on the edge of the bed.
He told Eddie all about the character Dustin and Mike helped him build, about how they might run a practice campaign with him soon. He told him about the popcorn he would make for the first time he came over.
Steve watched fondly, realizing quickly that this wasn’t something he could lose.
Not Elliott, and not Eddie either.
—-----------------------------
Elliott’s parents were still missing.
It’s been almost a month, Eddie was released from the hospital a day ago, and Elliott was still living with Steve.
The longer he stayed, the more it would hurt if he left.
They got into a routine.
School had been canceled for the rest of the year, so they mostly just made breakfast together, went in the pool, hung out with the kids, visited Eddie, played basketball, and had popcorn every night.
Steve knew Elliott was happy, he knew he was happy.
He was terrified it would end.
They were hosting Eddie for a movie night, and Elliott was more excited than ever.
Steve was a nervous wreck.
He was in charge of making sure Eddie didn’t overdo it, making sure he took his nighttime medications, and getting him to bed at a reasonable hour. According to Wayne, his pills made him tired and he would fight sleep if you didn’t force him into a bed.
Steve spent the day cleaning, baking, and preparing.
By dinner time, when Eddie would be arriving, Elliott was starting to question it.
“What’s wrong? Do you not want Eddie to come over?”
“No! Of course I want him to come over.”
“So…why are you being like this?”
“I’m…”
“Is it because you love Eddie?”
Steve choked on air.
“What?”
“Or do you think Eddie doesn’t love you?”
“Elliott, gonna say a big kid word right now. What the hell do you mean?”
Elliott rolled his eyes.
“You want to make Eddie feel happy and safe here, and you always get this stupid look on your face when we visit him, and then when I asked Wayne if you two were boyfriends he laughed and said ‘probably soon.’ So you love him, right?”
Steve’s mouth was working open and shut, open and shut, no noise coming out.
“Two boys can be together, you know. Robin told me.”
“She what? When?”
“When she told me two girls can be together.”
Steve put his face in his hands and couldn’t help the laugh of disbelief he let out as Elliott touched his back to comfort him.
“Did you not know you loved Eddie?”
“Uh. I guess I didn’t know that other people thought I loved Eddie.”
“Oh. So are you gonna be boyfriends?”
“I…I don’t know, buddy. Maybe.”
“I think you should be. Then it might be like I have two dads.”
What?
What.
“What?”
Elliott pulled his hand away and suddenly seemed nervous.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to say that.”
Steve couldn’t handle the look on Elliott’s face.
“Elliott, look at me, buddy.” He waited for Elliott to look at him. “Is that what you think of me as? Like your dad?”
Elliott nodded.
“Come here,” Steve said, pulling Elliott into a hug. “You’re the best kid, you know that?”
Elliott nodded, and Steve let out a wet laugh.
“Uh, everything okay in here?” Eddie said from the doorway.
“Eddie!” Elliott let out, and despite the mood of the previous conversation, he was smiling from ear to ear.
Eddie smiled at him and pulled him into the least hurt side of him for a hug.
He looked at Steve with a questioning look. Steve just shook his head quickly, wiping the tears from his eyes quickly.
“Can I make popcorn now, pleeeeease?” Elliott asked, bouncing on his heels.
“Yes, fine. But only one bowl right now. You can make more after dinner.”
“Okay, dad!” he yelled as he ran to the popcorn maker.
Eddie’s brows raised to his forehead as he looked at Steve, who was crying buckets at this point.
“What’s that about, Stevie?” Eddie whispered as he came up to him.
“I um, I guess he just feels like I’m his dad,” Steve shrugged.
“Are you okay with that?”
“I just don’t want him to go.”
“Oh, sweetheart,” Eddie said, pulling Steve into a crushing hug that had to hurt him. Steve sniffled against his shoulder, letting himself cry for a minute. “Did Hopper say he may have to go soon?”
“No, but I mean, if they find his parents or if CPS decides he has to go to a real family, then he’ll have to.”
“Stevie, they wouldn’t just take him. Not when he’s safe here and wants to be here. I promise.”
“But what if he goes somewhere far away or to people who won’t let me see him?”
Eddie held the back of his head against his shoulder, placing a kiss to the top of his head.
“He won’t. We’ll fight for him to stay here, okay? He’s got a family here, with us. Right?”
“Us?” Steve asked as he pulled away.
“Yeah. Us. Sound okay to you?”
Steve could only nod as he wiped his running nose.
How attractive.
“Hopper still doesn’t have any idea where they are, right?”
“Nope.”
“They’ll give up eventually. I hate to say it, but they won’t put more effort into a kid who has a safe place to go when they have bigger problems. Like how half the town is still homeless because of a fucking earthquake.”
“That’s a big kid word!” Elliott yelled from his spot at the counter.
“I’m a big kid!” Eddie yelled back, smirking at Steve.
“But I’m not!” Elliott yelled as they heard the popcorn machine starting up.
“Fine!”
Eddie placed a kiss on Steve’s forehead, then one against his lips.
It was soft, chaste, barely a kiss at all.
But it was a perfect first kiss for them.
—----------------------------
Another month passed with no news.
Eddie was at Steve’s house almost every day, spending time with Elliott, spending time with the party, with Steve.
Steve had converted the main guest room into Elliott’s permanent bedroom, but was scared to think of it that way still.
Eddie tried to reassure him, but even he was nervous that no final decisions had been made and the case remained open.
Until Hopper came by one night, well after Elliott went to bed. Eddie was doing the dishes while Steve was prepping some fruit for Elliott’s breakfast before his first day of summer camp the next day.
“Hop.”
Steve felt his stomach sink.
They were going to take Elliott.
“Steve. Can I come in?”
“Yeah.”
Steve let him in, his face forced into casual calm, but on the inside he was already screaming and crying about what was about to happen.
Hopper sat down on the chair, gesturing for Steve and Eddie to sit on the couch.
“So.”
“You’re taking him aren’t you? He can’t stay.”
“What? No.” Hopper frowned. “No, Steve. The opposite actually. We’re closing the case. CPS said after interviews with him, even if his parents did get found or come back on their own, he wouldn’t be put back in their care.”
“But what about putting him with another family?”
Hopper sighed. He watched Eddie place a hand on Steve’s knee to calm him down.
“They’ve spoken in detail with him about his current situation. They believe that you’re the person he wants to live with and they aren’t going to disrupt his life any more than it already has been. If that’s alright with you, of course.”
Steve felt like he could breathe for the first time in his life.
“He can stay? With me?”
“He can stay with you.”
Steve let out a sob and fell against Eddie’s side. Eddie was crying too, but trying to keep more control so he could comfort Steve.
“CPS has to do a home visit to finalize everything, but if you’re good with it, you can officially adopt him. He’s been considered abandoned by his parents, and since it’s been 60 days, they relinquish all rights automatically.”
“How quickly can we do that?”
“We? Both of you?”
“I mean, can we both even do that?”
Hopper shrugged.
“Don’t know. But they’re probably expecting just Steve for now. They’ll call tomorrow to schedule everything and give you a chance to talk to Elliott.”
Steve and Eddie both nodded.
“I’m gonna leave you two to it, but call me if you need me. Congrats, Steve. I know you wanted this. I know he wanted this.”
“Thanks.”
Hopper saw himself out, closing the door quietly so it wouldn’t wake Elliott up.
“Eddie, did that really happen? Am I dreaming?”
“No, sweetheart, you aren’t dreaming.”
“I get to be his dad.”
“Yeah, you do.”
“And you?”
“What about me?”
“Do you want to be his other dad?”
“I would love to, baby. Let’s ask him tomorrow, though. It’s up to him.”
Steve nodded.
It was up to Elliott, but he knew what Elliott wanted.
He knew what he wanted.
They were gonna be a family. A real family. No more worrying about someone deciding to take Elliott away from him.
He could finally use this house that had been left to him by his parents for something other than being miserable. He could keep it filled with love and laughter and happiness and maybe the occasional stupid argument.
Maybe Elliott would make friends at school in the fall and want to have hangouts here. Maybe they could both save up some money and take him on a vacation somewhere. Maybe someday they could get married and Elliott could be the best man.
Anything could happen.
Steve couldn’t wait.
REQUESTS ARE OPEN!!
So I had an unfortunate accident with my inbox and managed to delete my requests (sorry guys) So here is a post to shout out that I'm opening requests. One shots, Head canons, mood boards, they are all open and I'd love some requests beautiful people. Or if you can't think of anything, you could just always drop me some questions or have a chat. I don't mind just come give me some love!
