Dad's Pits (Male Possession)
"Charlie! Get your fucking ass down here!"
Charlie's eyes shot open as he heard the muffled yells of his dad's piercing through his bedroom door. He flinched, pulling his hands out of his musky briefs and hitting his head on the bedframe.
"Fuck that hurt."
Charlie is a 23 year old washed out jock who just barely graduated from college. Exhausted from the years of studying and the lack of any job leads, he came back home tired and defeated. It didn't help that he was a kinky fucker, masturbating his days away to the smell of his ripe sweaty pits.
In fact, Charlie's main reason for playing club lacrosse in college was so that he could rummage through the open lockers and dirty laundry hampers, claiming any soiled jerseys to take a dirty sniff. He got caught once, with the strength coach's yellowed jockstrap over his face.
Dude got put on probation and his single dad found out immediately.
Charlie's dad, Jeff, although stern and strict, is a pretty loving dad through and through. He's a construction manager at one of the biggest firms in the city, leading huge projects and coming home day after day fatigued, pissy, and, most importantly, musky.
And today wasn't any different.
"You hear me!? You better not be whacking your d*ck!"
Charlie groaned as he got up, not bothering to slip anything on. He opened the door and yelled back, slightly embarrassed.
"I'm not dad! What do you need!?"
"How about you get your ass down here like I said and get some dinner on the table. Least you can do to help out around here"
Charlie tucked his boner into his briefs, put on some shorts and a loose tank top jersey, and trotted down the stairs regrettably. He made eye contact with Jeff, who was taking off his plaid button down, leaving behind a tight white tank top and belted wrangler jeans.
"There you are" Jeff said more softly than just a second ago. "Listen Charlie I don't wanna be yelling at ya. You're a grown ass adult and you're still living here. Could be proactive and help out around here more."
Charlie rubbed his eyes, yawned, then nodded, his bushy pits wafting out a dry musk that made his dad wince.
"Jesus christ boy. Go take a fucking shower. Don't know how you can handle yourself smelling like that. I can barely deal with my own stink right after work."
Charlie muttered a "well I can" under his breath as he rummaged through the fridge. He glanced at his dad who seemed to not notice.
"Speaking of, I'm gonna take a shower. Gotta get this fucking stench off me. Have dinner on the table when I get back alright?"
"Yeah yeah yeah. Will do daddio."
Charlie looked back as his dad jogged up the stairs, his tatted built arms swinging side to side with every step. While Charlie had more of an athletic lanky build, Jeff was a bit more bulky, carrying a muscular dad bod. They were the same height, and had similar characteristics, but his dad looked more mature with his bushy beard and uncontrollable chest hair. Charlie was jealous of those features. "I could be waaay more musky if I had dad's hairiness" he constantly thought.
Charlie felt an air of dizziness as he dropped some produce on the kitchen counter. He tried to steady himself, but for some reason couldn't keep his heavy eyelids open. "Shit... Must be the blue balls..." he slurred as he drunkenly stumbled to the dinner table. He slumped onto a chair and zonked out.
...
When Charlie came to, he felt strange. More airy, like he was floating. He felt cold, but for some reason couldn't feel his skin when he tried to grab it. He yelled when he looked down.
"The fuck is happening?"
"Why's my skin all green?"
Charlie poked and prodded at his translucent abs, which responded with a gooey jello-ey jiggle. "No fucking way man what the hell is this shit!?" he yelled.
Suddenly musky green gas started to emit from his armpits and ass, as if he was a walking stink cloud. Charlie curiously raised one of his arms up to take a sniff, only to smell one of the most rancid, ripe, and gloriously delicious stenches he's ever inhaled.
"Wheeeeewwww. Fuck... I smell so fucking BAD! I mean... GOOD". Charlie couldn't stop whiffing his own pits, hypnotized by the incredible musk that his ghostly form was now exuding.
Charlie looked around. He could see musky stink lines coming from objects all over the house, as if he had stink-o-vision. He strutted over to his dad's hung-up button down, which was apparently excessively musky.
"Damn... smells so goooood" he moaned as he brought his nose and hand up to the fabric. Suddenly, his fingers, then hand, then forearms got sucked into the fabric. With every finger twitch he tried to do, he watched as the shirt jostled around, as if he had partial control over it.
Charlie was chuckling, experimenting with his new powers for atleast 2 minutes straight before he heard a familiar voice call from up stairs.
"I'll be out in 15!" his dad yelled. Charlie heard the shower turn as his dad stomped around on the floor above, waiting for the water to heat up.
Charlie, looking down at his green ghostly body, grinned and thought of something mischievous to try. He got up and started tip-toeing up the stairs, the green stench still floating off his body.
He opened his dad's bedroom door and saw him turned around, taking off his socks. Jeff only cocked his head back, not yet noticing the new form his son had taken.
"You need something bud?" he said, before turning his head further and seeing the green apparition that his Charlie had become.
"Wh-what the hell? Y-you okay son?" Jeff's mouth was agape, unsure of how to react. He felt his nose crinkle as a more intense version of Charlie's ripe musk wafted into his nostrils unwelcomed.
"Don't know what happened daddio. Dozed off and woke up like this."
"Ch-Charlie! The fuck happened!? Go take a fucking shower son this ain't normal!"
Charlie flinched at that idea. "Why dad? I smell fucking great. And you do too..." He noticed the green stink lines emanating from his dad's pits, feet and below his waistband.
"The fuck are you talking about Charlie?" Jeff said, taking a step back as his jock son inched forward.
"Mind if I try something dad?" In a split second, Charlie pounced at Jeff, completely covering him in his green gas and slimey body.
Jeff struggled to breathe as he felt his nose and mouth getting caked in his son's ripe musk, forcibly pushing itself down his throat and up his nostrils. He lifted his arms up beyond his control as Charlie's gaseous slimey form started to ooze into his armpits.
Charlie could only laugh as he felt his ghostly body enter and take control of his dad through every single entrance he could find. Jeff didn't even notice his son slipping down his pants and pumping into his c*ck and sweaty asshole.
"CH-CHAR-guhhh" Jeff managed to moan out as the ectoplasmic form of his son's head gurgled down into his throat. At this point, Jeff could only see green in his vision.
"Gonna have so much fun stinking up your body dad!" Charlie yelled from inside Jeff's head.
The father and son, now sharing a body, stumbled to the ground, wet and slimey. Jeff let out a moan as he felt the last of the goo sink into his dirty asshole with a "POP". The man slumped over for a second before...
...
Jeff opened his eyes and cracked his neck with a smirk. He lifted up his arm and took a deep whiff of his day-old pit scent, unnatural green gas wafting out and musking the entire room.
"Mmmmmm smells even better with his nose" he cooed. He scratches at his pits then took a curious sniff before letting out an uncharacteristic moan of pleasure. "Fuck yeah that's the stuff."
Jeff got up and stuck a hand into his wranglers, rummaging around his fabric-covered balls and taint before rubbing the same hand all over his beard.
"Shiiit daaaad. You smell better than me!" Charlie chuckled with his dad's voice.
He walked up to the shower in his dad's en suite bathroom, reaching inside and turning off the water.
Once again, Charlie lifted up his dad's beefy arms and spoke:

On February 17, 1974, U.S. Army Private First Class Robert Kenneth Preston (1953–2009) took off in a stolen Bell UH-1B Iroquois "Huey" helicopter from Tipton Field, Maryland, and landed it on the South Lawn of the White House in a significant breach of security. Preston had enlisted in the Army to become a helicopter pilot. However, he did not graduate from the helicopter training course and lost his opportunity to attain the rank of warrant officer pilot. His enlistment bound him to serve four years in the Army, and he was sent to Fort Meade as a helicopter mechanic. Preston believed this situation was unfair and later said he stole the helicopter to show his skill as a pilot.
J. R. R. Tolkien, a fantasy author and professional philologist, drew on the Old English poem Beowulf for multiple aspects of his Middle-earth legendarium, alongside other influences. He used elements such as names, monsters, and the structure of society in a heroic age. He emulated its style, creating an impression of depth and adopting an elegiac tone. Tolkien admired the way that Beowulf, written by a Christian looking back at a pagan past, just as he was, embodied a "large symbolism" without ever becoming allegorical. He worked to echo the symbolism of life's road and individual heroism in The Lord of the Rings.
The construction of the first World Trade Center complex in New York City was conceived as an urban renewal project to help revitalize Lower Manhattan spearheaded by David Rockefeller. The project was developed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The idea for the World Trade Center arose after World War II as a way to supplement existing avenues of international commerce in the United States.
The Coterel gang (also Cotterill, fl. c. 1328 – 1333) was a 14th-century armed group that flourished in the North Midlands of England. It was led by James Coterel—after whom the gang is named—supported by his brothers Nicholas and John. It was one of several such groups that roamed across the English countryside in the late 1320s and early 1330s, a period of political upheaval with an associated increase in lawlessness in the provinces. Coterel and his immediate supporters were members of the gentry, and according to the tenets of the day were expected to assist the crown in the maintenance of law and order, rather than encourage its collapse.
Eunice Newton Foote (July 17, 1819 – September 30, 1888) was an American scientist, inventor, and women's rights campaigner. She was the first scientist to confirm that certain gases warm when exposed to sunlight, and that therefore rising carbon dioxide (CO2) levels could increase atmospheric temperature and affect climate, a phenomenon now referred to as the Greenhouse effect. Born in Connecticut, Foote was raised in New York at the center of social and political movements of her day, such as the abolition of slavery, anti-alcohol activism, and women's rights. She attended the Troy Female Seminary and the Rensselaer School from age 17–19, gaining a broad education in scientific theory and practice.
Simonie Michael (Inuktitut: ᓴᐃᒨᓂ ᒪᐃᑯᓪ; first name also spelled Simonee, alternative surnames Michel or E7-551; March 2, 1933 – November 15, 2008) was a Canadian politician from the eastern Northwest Territories (now Nunavut) who was the first Inuk elected to a legislature in Canada. Before becoming involved in politics, Michael worked as a carpenter and business owner, and was one of very few translators between Inuktitut and English. He became a prominent member of the Inuit co-operative housing movement and a community activist in Iqaluit, and was appointed to a series of governing bodies, including the precursor to the Iqaluit City Council.
The St. Johns River (Spanish: Río San Juan) is the longest river in the U.S. state of Florida and it is the most significant one for commercial and recreational use. At 310 miles (500 km) long, it flows north and winds through or borders twelve counties. The drop in elevation from headwaters to mouth is less than 30 feet (9 m); like most Florida waterways, the St. Johns has a very slow flow speed of 0.3 mph (0.13 m/s), and is often described as "lazy".
Warlugulong is a 1977 acrylic on canvas painting by Indigenous Australian artist Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri. Owned for many years by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, the work was sold by art dealer Hank Ebes on 24 July 2007, setting a record price for a contemporary Indigenous Australian art work bought at auction when it was purchased by the National Gallery of Australia for A$2.4 million. The painting illustrates the story of an ancestral being called Lungkata, together with eight other dreamings associated with localities about which Clifford Possum had traditional knowledge. It exemplifies a distinctive painting style developed by Papunya Tula artists in the 1970s, and blends representation of landscape with ceremonial iconography. Art critic Benjamin Genocchio describes it as "a work of real national significance [and] one of the most important 20th-century Australian paintings".
William Samuel Sadler (June 24, 1875 – April 26, 1969) was an American surgeon, self-trained psychiatrist, and author who helped publish The Urantia Book. The book is said to have resulted from Sadler's relationship with a man through whom he believed celestial beings spoke at night. It drew a following of people who studied its teachings.
Zebras (US: /ˈziːbrəz/, UK: /ˈzɛbrəz, ˈziː-/) (subgenus Hippotigris) are African equines with distinctive black-and-white striped coats. There are three living species: Grévy's zebra (Equus grevyi), the plains zebra (E. quagga), and the mountain zebra (E. zebra). Zebras share the genus Equus with horses and asses, the three groups being the only living members of the family Equidae. Zebra stripes come in different patterns, unique to each individual. Several theories have been proposed for the function of these patterns, with most evidence supporting them as a deterrent for biting flies. Zebras inhabit eastern and southern Africa and can be found in a variety of habitats such as savannahs, grasslands, woodlands, shrublands, and mountainous areas.

Kamala Khan and Bruno Carrelli are having fun at the amusement park until they hear something going on in the circus tent. As the two teens investigate, they find a dispute between an angry man and a strange robot boy called Multitude. The man was angry with Multitude for not projecting the image of his wife the "right way" so the latter (Multitude) retaliates by summoning the illusion of Hulk to scare off the man. Kamala intervenes by stopping the "Hulk" until it slams onto the ferris wheel, nearly toppling it. Kamala tries to put the ferris wheel back in its place when Multitude helps her by using the constructs of Hulk, Thing and Groot to hold the wheel so that she could save the civilians. After saving the civilians and putting the ferris wheel back; Kamala and Multitude move somewhere else in Jersey City with the help of Bruno.
After befriending Multitude, Kamala is talking to her family when she gets a call from Bruno who tells her that Multitude had gone off to search for the Inventors by himself. When Multitude confronts the Inventors, Kamala arrives to help him to fight them off. Just as the Inventors multiply to outnumber them, Multitude manages to scare them off by conjuring the construct of Fin Fang Foom, forcing the Inventors to flee. After the confrontation, Multitude brings Kamala home to say a goodbye to her before leaving by himself to search for a purpose.

Aftermath, pt 2
Last time, we discussed the medical and legal aftermath that might have followed Team Treasure’s return of the Declaration of Independence to the FBI.
Now it’s time to turn to the next category our list:
Archeological
Sadusky would likely have Trinity Church cordoned off for as long as it took to make other security arrangement but like, yeah: Where is the treasure going? Does it stay in the cavern until it can be distributed among the museums? Who is doing that? Does Ben have to form an LLC and hire a Treasure Return Coordinator? How does he do that? When does he do that? What happens in the meantime?
An abundance of logistical questions, and a deep dive on triaging the Declaration of Independence ↓
Does he go to Columbia University’s archeology department and ask for help? From who? He just wanders into the dean's office? Some poor professor's office hours? Maybe he knows an American history professor in the area who once laughed him out of a lecture and turns to her for help figuring out what to do next.
What are Abigail’s connections like with New York-based institutions? Who has jurisdiction over which pieces? If there are American papers in the treasure cache they probably belong at the National Archives, but most of the treasure is, you know, treasure. Do different museums and institutions start squabbling over who gets what? There’s no way that many academics agree with each other about how to even go about cataloging the place let along distributing the artifacts.
When do foreign institutions and governments get involved? And who is overseeing that to make sure nobody starts an international incident when they can’t agree which country a particular artifact belongs to?
What becomes of the cavern once its emptied? Does it become a museum? If so, does Trinity Church own admission to the museum? Are they expected to run it?
Speaking of the cavern, who’s in charge of safety? Who’s going to be hired to build a stable freight elevator down there? What kind of construction firm do you even approach to consider a project like that?
Needless to say, there are a lot of logistics to figure out regarding the safety of the treasure, both from theft and deterioration, as well as the safety of anyone going down to work with it. There’s the matter of who is running point on this operation, and which institutions are involved to what degree. And then there’s the probably months- or years-long process of getting all of this work done.
I don’t envy them, and 100% no judgement if Ben hands off a lot of these responsibilities as soon as he finds competent people to give them to.
More immediately than even the immediate items regarding the rest of the treasure, there’s the matter of the Declaration of Independence.
The Declaration
As you point out, there is a branch of the National Archives in New York City! I did not know that! Actually, there are National Archives branches all over the country. That makes sense I guess, but I never stopped to think about it. Each one holds records from that state or regions. For example, the New York branch holds records generated in New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.
So yes, I think it’s safe to say that the Declaration will be moved to the National Archives at New York City. If I were the FBI, I would move it by armored truck—not taking any more chances for nonsense!
The FBI likely brought a documents expert with them, or at least they should have. Someone internal, from say, the FBI’s Questioned Documents unit may be the best bet from a security standpoint, but from a conservation perspective, Sadusky ought to have a person or team from the NY archives en route to the church as soon as he gets Ben’s call. And since he seems to care about what happens to the Declaration and the treasure, it makes sense to me that he would have a document rescue plan.
Because although Sadusky doesn’t know where or under what circumstances he’ll get the Declaration back, he fully intends to get it back. And I have to assume that part of that means a plan to take care of it as soon as it’s out of criminal hands. There are National Archives branches in Philadelphia, New York, and Boston, as well as in Washington D.C. My guess is that all of them were on alert and in communication, ready to receive the Declaration at the closest location to its recovery point, and generally aligned on the treatment process.
Stan or someone else from the D.C. Archives might have been heading this up once they were cleared of involvement. As the keepers of the Charters of Freedom, they'd be the experts in the Declaration’s exact preservation requirements.
So as soon as the Declaration is recovered, the plan is launched into action. The National Archives—officially known as the National Archives and Records Administration, NARA—runs tests such as this flood-soaked document simulation to test various drying methods on archived materials. They offer multiple resources on preserving family documents after floods, and seem generally prepared to respond to document emergencies. The “Preservation” page of their website even has a tab for “Records Emergencies.”
Now, most of these emergencies envision large amounts of documents damaged by water. Think floods, hurricanes, burst water pipes, etc. None of them involve Nicolas Cage squeezing lemon juice onto the Declaration of Independence. However, we can extrapolate a bit about what the priorities and methods might be based on the more plausible scenarios.
First of all, as @arsenicalbronze put it in their guest post on Ben’s dubious relationship with invisible inks, Abigail
goes with damage control. She takes the lemon from Ben so that she can paint the juice on the back in the least destructive way possible (e.g. not just squeezing lemon juice all over it and soaking it).
This spares the Declaration from some of the potential moisture damage from the cypher process, but not all.
Actually, the Wikipedia on Conservation and restoration of parchment lists the most common threats to parchment documents as
Relative humidity changes
Water and excessive moisture
Oxygen
Mold
Heat
Light exposure
Flaking and friability
Poor storage
Throughout the course of the treasure hunt Team Treasure managed to hit…pretty much all of them, lol.
While revealing the cypher, Abigail is likely doing double duty with the hair dryer. She’s both trying to dry out the moisture added by the lemon juice and use the minimum amount of heat necessary to reveal the text. If hot breath can do it, they don’t actually need much heat.
Every source I read mentioned that mold is a major risk to wet documents, whether paper or parchment, and can set if if not dried within 48 hours of moisture exposure. Based on our timeline we’re approaching that window, and that brings us to an important item that the archivists at the NY NARA will have to contend with. In fact, this is their first order of business:
How are they going to dry out the Declaration?
Despite Abigail’s best efforts there is likely still some moisture on the document, and for most of the rest of the treasure hunt it’s sealed in a plastic container with no air flow. It will need to be dried. Possibly even humidified to combat any warping and then dried.
Interestingly enough, when the Charters of Freedom went through their last major conservation project in 2001, the Constitution and Bill of Rights underwent this humidification and drying under tension, but the Declaration did not because it has sustained much more damage over the years than the other documents. However, the treasure hunt might lead to a different approached. The Declaration’s been acidified, heated, rolled and unrolled multiple times, touched, turned over, and run over with a car. Ouch.
When it does come time to dry the document, the archivists have some options.
Air drying
Freezer drying
Dehumidification drying
Vacuum freeze-drying
Vacuum thermal drying
Thermaline or cryogenic drying
Some of these are exactly what they sound like, and again, they’re described in the context of a damaged collection of material. How much material they’re suited for, how accessible they are, whether records are still available when drying, and whether they require being moved off site are all take into consideration.
For the Declaration of Independence, I’m looking straight at “cryogenic drying.” This is “intended for manuscript and rare book collections bound in leather of vellum” and while the most expensive technique, is also the one that minimizes distortion of the material the most.
And distortion is one of the most significant risks to the Declaration. Parchment expands and contracts in response to heat and moisture, and it’s been out of its controlled environment for a significant amount of time. Since that 2001 restoration, the Declaration has been kept in an aluminum and titanium case filled with argon gas, with a relative humidity of 40% and a stable temperature of 67 °F. Fluctuations in these variables up or down can cause damage. Too humid and it warps, too dry and it cracks.
Restoration is also a very manual process. Obviously technology is a huge help, and conservation science has come a long was in recent decades. Still, that lemon juice is going to be washed off by hand. Every crease and crack the Declaration sustained is going to be evaluated and steamed or repaired by hand.
Speaking of the people involved in this process, Abigail is probably feeling a lot of things as the Declaration gets taken away to the NY Archives. She saw her initial goal through to the end—she kept the Declaration safe, sometimes at the risk of her own safety. She also willingly put lemon juice on it. And heated it up. And let Ben keep rolling it up. She did or witnessed more damage to the Declaration in one day than it’s seen in decades. And now she doesn’t get to help clean up the mess.
I bet part of her wants to run to the Archives and start work right that moment. Forget that she’s so exhausted she can barely see straight. Forget the pounding headache in her skull or the strange numb ache in her shoulder or the way every muscle in her body is begging to collapse. Forget all the FBI eyes on her, and everyone who’s waiting for answers. The Declaration is hers. She is the Custodian of the Charters of Freedom after all. (Or at least, that was her title in the 2003 script.) Abigail is the person most qualified to be handling this emergency, and she can’t.
The best she can do is tell the archivist(s) who come to retrieve the Declaration what exactly happened to it since it left the National Archives two days earlier. The more information they have, the more accurately they can diagnose and treat any damage that occurred. (Like, lemon juice straight out of a goddamn lemon might not be their first guess?)
If you just want to be kind to Abigail, I would make this person someone she doesn't know or know well, but whose work she respects, or even a friend.
If you want to torment her I'd make it someone she hates or is academic rivals with.
I will leave you with this 144 page document on parchment conservation which I did not read, but you may find useful in your National Treasure-related adventures!

- i don’t necessarily think qh43 should be the next nux captain over ep but i think there is general disregard for not just his willingness to be put in a leadership position (which is an ambiguous metric but still) but also his ability to navigate public “pressure” and organizational discomfort..... i do think he has all the tools, whether they be organically developed or externally constructed, to weather all public-facing scrutiny of an exclusive canadian-city sports market. does that automatically make someone a good captain? i mean for this team who even knows lol. but also Hey sometimes that’s just a guy’s face. he looks like he wants to die” since when does that mean he doesn’t want it! (the question is then → Do you want to be captain because you’ve been told your whole life that assuming responsibility is the noble thing to do and you’ve sincerely internalized the tenets of your upbringing or do you actually enjoy that responsibility innately. which.) it’s interesting that all 3 hughes brothers have been and continue to be positioned to fill leadership roles but q/l approach it with the same intensity and moral focus whereas jack mostly fell into his letter by way of “star player who is the heartbeat of the team and weathered the storm with his narratively parallel 1oa captain after all these years” and less so for any marked media capability
- so weird to receive emails from mcl about oscar stuff i keep having to be like wait he’s actually going to be driving soon this wasn’t some fucked up joke... still remember the entire crb debacle unfolding live before my eyes like it was yesterday
- keep thinking about “inevitability” as developmental concept and what we mean when we call people “automatic” in sports... not to veer into 10k hour stuff but it’s an interesting linguistic construction when we essentially ascribe a defiance of expected developmental models and uncertainty to generational talents, Guys who just have it, etc. because we’re like oh there’s no way they won’t be what they’re projected to be or their productive success has to be inevitable...... but in a way automation negates the endless work that goes behind making all of those people into the Elite. i think just the frameworks we use to understand people that far above the rest often lose some nuance because we ourselves can’t understand what makes their cognitive ability and level of adaptability so efficient
in that vein... i do think kimi is insane for getting a reverse grid win from 10th and almost sweeping r3 in his first regional championship especially considering he didn’t even do all the testing weeks because of his broken wrist. frmec is Not That Serious but for all people have tempered their expectations of him i feel like he always finds a way of unlocking a new notch of jr series domination and there is the sense that he’ll perform immediately coming into freca despite it being notoriously unfriendly to "rookies.” even with ob i’m like [tentative f2 hopium re: ability to compete within the top [x]] and i do have some secret lofty thoughts about the [x] seat next year but i’m too scared to speak any of that into existence because there’s so much adaptive uncertainty going into f2, especially at that age and straight from a single year in f3. theo cautionary tale lol. but kimi is really....... sometimes Inevitable is the only word. and in the end it’s the same with cb98 (← tangentially i do find it so narratively satisfying that 87/97/98 all played in different chl leagues. also jersey number circularity!)

Week 4
This week was a major feedback week. I discussed my Point of View ideas to attempt a direction to follow with my process. I talked about construction, mainly in the Hoboken-Jersey City area, and how impeding it is on the public. The point I wanted to flesh out is, "What is the function of construction?" I feel it's a vague, yet pressing question, especially when taken into the economic lenses. There were three main points throughout discussion that I feel are most noteworthy of mentioning to work on:
The liberty of creating to send a message instead of fixing something. A major point of construction in maintenance, often with roadwork and building renovations. These are the most common city wide construction cites, as they represent the need of sustainability of the city itself. I think a useful point of this is to know I am not sole curator of the mess that happens in the city pipelines and weathering buildings. I feel it is necessary to remind myself the point of this entire project is to make, not fix something.
Content and what medium to use. I was suggested to find a physical representation of my ideas- something I can begin to manifest. I think a great opportunity for me would be to use cardboard to sculpt something- specifically the front sides of buildings, and/or street corners. These are places people are constantly exposed to and I think it's an idea to start maybe prototyping.
So far for others' feedback, I had a ton of post-its from many of my classmates, as well as my Professor. I think the next step now is to execute some form of work.

Florida’s Real Estate Market Trends: Insights from Local Agents
The Florida real estate market has always been a dynamic space, driven by various factors such as population growth, weather, economic conditions, and investment opportunities. Recently, the state has experienced notable changes in market dynamics, with both buyers and sellers adapting to evolving trends. Local real estate agents, with their on-the-ground expertise, provide valuable insights into these developments.
A Surge in Out-of-State Buyers
One of the most significant trends shaping Florida's real estate market is the influx of out-of-state buyers, particularly from states like New York, New Jersey, and California. With many people looking to relocate for lifestyle changes, better weather, or more favorable tax policies, Florida has become a prime destination. Additionally, the work-from-home culture, which was accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, has allowed people to move to locations previously considered vacation or retirement spots.
According to local agents, many of these buyers are seeking second homes or even making permanent moves to areas such as Miami, Tampa, Orlando, and Naples. This demand has driven up home prices in these regions, creating a seller's market. Realtors are noting that these buyers are also looking for homes with more space, modern amenities, and proximity to beaches or waterfronts, reflecting a shift in priorities towards lifestyle and comfort.
Rising Property Values
Florida’s property values have seen a steady increase over the past few years, a trend that continues today. According to data from real estate platforms, home prices in Florida have risen by double digits in certain areas over the last year alone. This surge in property values has been driven by limited inventory, high demand, and increased interest from investors, both local and international.
Local real estate agents explain that while this is beneficial for sellers, it poses challenges for first-time homebuyers and those looking for affordable housing. Competitive bidding wars have become the norm, with homes often selling above their asking prices. As a result, buyers need to be prepared with pre-approval letters and strong offers to succeed in this market.
Growth in New Construction
Another trend observed by local agents is the growth in new construction projects across Florida. With the increasing demand for homes, developers are rushing to build new properties, particularly in suburban and rural areas. Cities like Orlando, Jacksonville, and Fort Myers have seen a boom in new residential developments, catering to families and retirees alike.
Many buyers are opting for new construction homes to avoid the competitive bidding wars that are common with resale homes. Additionally, new homes offer the advantage of modern features, energy efficiency, and customization options, making them an attractive option for many buyers.
Local real estate agents, however, warn that while new construction is on the rise, it’s important for buyers to understand the potential delays in completion due to labor shortages and supply chain disruptions. Realtors can guide buyers through this process, helping them find reputable builders and negotiating favorable terms.
The Luxury Market is Thriving
Florida’s luxury real estate market has been thriving, driven by high-net-worth individuals looking for exclusive properties. Areas like Palm Beach, Miami Beach, and Naples are known for their upscale homes, luxury condos, and waterfront properties. According to local agents, the demand for luxury real estate has surged, with buyers looking for spacious estates, private amenities, and ocean views.
The pandemic has shifted the way people view their homes, with many buyers now looking for properties that offer a resort-like experience. Features such as private pools, home offices, gyms, and outdoor entertainment areas have become top priorities for luxury buyers. As a result, real estate agents specializing in high-end properties are seeing increased activity in this segment of the market.
Rising Rental Demand
While homebuying is strong, the rental market in Florida is also booming. Rising home prices have pushed many would-be buyers into the rental market, driving up rental prices across the state. Cities like Miami, Tampa, and Orlando are experiencing a surge in rental demand, particularly for apartments and single-family homes in desirable neighborhoods.
Local agents note that rental properties are in high demand not only from residents but also from investors looking to capitalize on the lucrative rental market. Short-term rentals, particularly in tourist-heavy areas, have also seen a resurgence as travel restrictions ease and vacationers return to the state.
Challenges for Affordable Housing
Despite the positive trends in Florida’s real estate market, local agents are quick to point out the growing challenges surrounding affordable housing. With rising home prices, low inventory, and increased demand, it has become difficult for middle- and low-income buyers to enter the housing market. Affordable housing options are becoming scarce, particularly in popular metropolitan areas.
Realtors are advocating for more government intervention and incentives to address the affordable housing crisis. This includes promoting programs for first-time homebuyers, tax credits for builders creating affordable housing units, and zoning changes that allow for the construction of more multifamily properties.
The Future Outlook
Looking ahead, local real estate agents remain optimistic about the future of Florida’s real estate market. While the current demand and rising prices present challenges, Florida’s population growth, strong economy, and appeal as a lifestyle destination suggest that the market will remain robust.
However, agents caution that buyers and sellers should be prepared for market fluctuations. Interest rates may rise, which could affect buyer affordability and market activity. Additionally, as more homes come onto the market and new construction projects are completed, the competition may level off, bringing a more balanced market in the future.

Mariano Dalesio is one of several hundred thousand members of River Plate, a top Argentine soccer club. Having been proudly registered by his father at birth, the 29-year-old pays a monthly fee to go to local games, always sporting the same jersey and pants to bring him luck, and votes to elect the club’s leaders. He considers the stadium in Buenos Aires his second home. “It’s a very important part of my life,” he said. “Actually, it is my life.”
But the young fan worries about whether the libertarian vision of Argentine President Javier Milei may disrupt soccer as he knows it.
The country’s several thousand soccer clubs, which have birthed legends such as Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona, have long operated as nonprofit associations run by their members. However, as Milei tackles Argentina’s long-winded economic crisis, he is seeking to encourage private investment in the sport and sees it as an untapped source of revenue. Since the early days of his presidency, he has pushed for clubs to have the freedom to become for-profit companies under private owners, insisting they’ll make quick money. “No more poor socialism in soccer,” he declared in July on X.
In August, Milei issued a decree that would give the Argentine Football Association (AFA) a year to adjust its statutes and permit for-profit clubs to join. One of the first interested investors has been Foster Gillett, the son of former Liverpool co-owner George Gillett, who recently traveled to Argentina and met with government officials and several clubs in the country’s top soccer league, according to Juliana Santillán, an Argentine congresswoman.
But so far, Milei’s actions have been met with strong opposition. Many of the clubs in the AFA have loudly rejected handing their reins over to new owners. Under the current model, their income, which comes from membership dues, ticket sales, player transfers, and television rights, must be reinvested into the club. Some worry that new owners will care more about making money than the social mission of the clubs, which often serve as community centers that keep children out of trouble and offer recreational sports that may not be as lucrative as professional soccer.
Dalesio, who occasionally attends River Plate membership assemblies, recalled how he once spoke about the need for more transparency on a project to remodel the stadium. “Here, the members have a lot of voice. The for-profit model will make that disappear,” he said.
Soccer was first introduced to Argentina by British immigrants in the 19th century, with one of the earliest recorded matches played in 1867 in Buenos Aires. Over the decades, clubs continued to form as the city grew and even helped create neighborhood identities. By the early 1900s, the game had become the national pastime and “had long since ceased to be the preserve of British expats,” wrote British sports journalist Jonathan Wilson in his book Angels With Dirty Faces: The Footballing History of Argentina.
As a result, Argentines developed their own style focused on dribbling skills. They claimed their technique was better—more spontaneous and passionate even—than the British, thus fueling a sense of nationalism that has now come to be commonly associated with the game.
The early 1900s also saw the formation of some of the country’s biggest soccer clubs: River Plate, Boca Juniors, Racing, Independiente, and San Lorenzo. Clubs swiftly became places “to socialize, to get together, to understand each other, to form communities,” said Cesar Torres, a sports historian at SUNY Brockport. “They didn’t have the idea of making money.” Nonetheless, the sport quickly became entangled in politics.
The government of populist President Juan Perón, who first served in the 1940s and 1950s, underwrote stadium construction projects and in return, according to Wilson, had his representatives work closely with the clubs’ leadership. Perón wanted to make sure he had the clubs’ support, recognizing the fervor they generated and their potential to organize politically. Soccer also kept Argentines entertained and, to some degree, distracted.
Years later, the military junta, which had overthrown the Argentine government and murdered or disappeared thousands of people, used the 1978 World Cup—hosted and won by Argentina—to revamp its global image and project calm and control. One stadium was just minutes away from a notorious clandestine detention center in Buenos Aires.
More recently, in 2009, then-President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s administration offered Argentines free soccer television programing, but critics called the move a ploy to spread government propaganda with political ads.
In the last decade, clubs have slogged through economic crises as governments have struggled to repay billions of dollars in debts to the International Monetary Fund and overspending has resulted in soaring inflation. Though Milei’s severe austerity measures have slowed monthly inflation to 4 percent, cuts to subsidies have left many families struggling to get by.
Rodolfo Paverini, the president of the Argentine Sports Confederation, said clubs have lost membership dues and been hampered by high increases in electricity and gas bills. “In all governments, there was a tendency to protect clubs,” he said. “Today, they are totally in God’s hands.”
Despite the success of its national team, the champions of this summer’s Copa América tournament and the 2022 World Cup, Argentina has found it hard to compete with other markets, notably Brazil, the most comparable market in Latin America due to the country’s size and soccer culture.
The strong Brazilian economy has meant that its clubs have significantly more resources and can sign the most promising young players from the region, including Argentina, said Fernando Roitman, an expert in sports governance at the Switzerland-based International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES).
Argentina has the third-highest number of professional players overseas, after Brazil and France, according to a 2023 report by CIES. Among them are almost all the members of its national team, from Messi at Inter Miami to midfielder Alexis Mac Allister at Liverpool. While several of Argentina’s largest clubs are seen as financially stable, others have accumulated heaping amounts of debt while unable to pay their players.
Milei, who played as a goalkeeper for a lower-ranking division of San Lorenzo in the 1980s, has made it his mission to change the clubs’ finances, an unconventional economic passion project. Last December, mere days into his term, Milei issued a sweeping mandate to deregulate the economy that included measures to allow for-profit clubs to join the AFA, getting around the association’s current prohibition. Those measures, as well as Milei’s August decree, have since been knocked down by the courts. However, the government can still appeal the legal decision.
Government officials, including Justice Minister Mariano Cúneo Libarona, have argued that they’re merely fighting to give clubs the freedom to choose what they want to be. “As the government, we have the mandate to free Argentines,” Libarona said in July. “Soccer is no exception.”
Santillán, the congresswoman, said Foster, the investor who visited Argentina, presented several clubs with proposals that their members are expected to vote on. The idea, she said, is to approach fans “in a smart way so they don’t feel Foster is an investor who comes to buy but an investor who comes to share.”
The moves fall in line with Milei’s broader free market approach. He has sought to appeal to domestic and foreign investors (including courting billionaire Elon Musk). “He favors unfettered capitalism, the commercialization of basically every aspect of social life, so he sees that this [soccer] is an opportunity for free enterprise as well,” said Torres, the sports historian.
Some do support Milei’s crusade. Retired Argentine star player Sergio Agüero has said private ownership could strengthen clubs but that “if the members say no, it’s no.” In Rosario, which is located a few hours northwest of the capital and is also Messi’s hometown, several members of Newell’s Old Boys, a local soccer club, favor turning the protégé’s old club into a for-profit company.
Alejo Navarro, a university student, complained that the club hadn’t won a national championship since 2013. He voted for Milei, a person who he said “disrupts everything in politics, for better or for worse,” and would be in favor of Newell’s becoming for-profit.
Milei isn’t operating in a vacuum. In recent years, the for-profit model for sports clubs has trended across Latin America. In 2021, Brazil passed legislation to encourage the creation of for-profit clubs. The move wasn’t as contentious as the ongoing debate in Argentina.
As a result, according to Cesar Grafietti, a financial consultant for Brazilian soccer clubs, several prominent clubs are now in better shape. For example, in 2023, City Football Group (CFG), the parent company of English football club Manchester City, completed its acquisition of Brazilian club Bahia, investing substantially in new players. But there have also been legal problems—such as with the takeover of top club Vasco da Gama—and fewer investors than expected, Grafietti added. Argentina’s neighbor Uruguay also permits for-profit clubs. In 2017, CFG acquired Club Atlético Torque, which was later renamed to Montevideo City Torque, a nod to its new ownership.
It’s unclear what the economic impact of private investment in soccer clubs might look like for Argentina. However, many experts agree that better management is more important than the club model itself and that the problem of Argentine players going overseas has more to do with the country’s less developed economy more generally—something that cannot necessarily be fixed by pumping dollars into clubs. “The model doesn’t guarantee success and neither does it protect you from an eventual failure,” said Ariel Reck, a sports attorney based in Buenos Aires. “There is no magic.”
Smaller clubs with fewer members may be more likely to make the switch to private ownership. However, several factors may spook investors first. There’s the economic crisis: Argentina has a CC credit rating from Fitch, which predicts that the country will likely default on its debt in the coming years. There are also the barras bravas, or fan-run soccer gangs known for mob violence and for running ticket and parking rackets. And then there is the biggest obstacle for now: The AFA still excludes for-profit clubs.
“They’re clubs with a lot of history, and I don’t think the members, the fans, would allow it at all,” said Tato Aguilera, an Argentine sports journalist. “There’s a lot of love for the institution.”
