THIS IS EVERYTHING TO ME YES YES A MILLION TIMES YES
Trans woman Tuvok is killing me with the context of Tuvok's character already being someone who gave in to everything he ever fought against. Every act of rebellion retroactively looked upon as foolish if not actively damaging - especially in a way that props his father up as being wiser than he. His father was right to disown him for his teenage rejection of logic and he was right to compel him to join Starfleet though Tuvok was miserable in it. We know Tuvok was in a monastery when he had his pon farr and that meditation is a way to overcome it so I don't think it's a stretch to say that there's a chance Tuvok tried to do just that but ended up failing and so he took a wife (who her father chose). Tuvok obviously cares deeply about his wife and children and enjoys his career in Starfleet and his rejection of logic WOULD have been extremely bad for him had it continued but I do think it's significant that every path of aberrant independence is now looked down on by him as negative because with that context imagine how Tuvok might react to the idea that she might be a woman. Imagine if she expressed this to her father before and received pushback against it and so she bottled those feeling up. Her father was right before, about everything. Surely, he's right about this too. If she just keeps fighting against this desire (and desire is bad, isn't it? she shouldn't feel anything) her father's wisdom will eventually reveal itself and she'll be grateful she didn't rashly follow this whim. And years pass. And decades. And decades more. And then she's in the Delta quadrant and she doesn't have her children to be Father to or wife to be Husband to and her father isn't there to chastise his Only Son. And maybe...just maybe...she can finally sit down and explore why that 'whim' hasn't gone away.

I’m generally a Star Trek femslash person, especially when it comes to rarepairs, however, I do have a few het rarepairs that I like and think more people should give a second thought to:
Guinan/Picard: They have an intense and unique dynamic in canon and most of their interactions have such an enjoyable tension to them. Their mysterious history and the refusal of canon to ever entirely define what their relationship means to them is also very appealing to me. Also, have you seen their interactions in Time’s Arrow?
Deanna/Worf: I do like Deanna/Will (and especially Deanna/Worf/Riker), but I think Deanna and Worf together have such an underrated dynamic and canon really fucked them over by primarily ignoring their established dynamic when they actually got together. I find the idea of their relationship beginning in connection with Alexander interesting, but even aside from that, they have such fun interactions and genuine respect for each other and the actors have great chemistry in my opinion.
Jadzia/Quark: This is number one on my list of ships I liked until canon ruined them. Quark being obsessively in unrequited love with Jadzia all along was a bad writing choice. Clearly they were friends with benefits. To me, neither of them was ever in love, they’re literally just weird friends who have sex sometimes.
Janeway/Tuvok: It’s about the loyalty and devotion regardless of the circumstances. It’s about the intensity of their love for each other, the softness in Janeway’s eyes when she looks at him. I admit I like to consider their dynamic more with Chakotay in the mix (JCT forever), but Janeway/Tuvok alone is very underrated.
Harry/B’Elanna: I shipped them from the time B’Elanna first called Harry Starfleet (affectionate). I love a ship with characters who both contrast and parallel each other – they have seemingly opposite relationships with Starfleet and extremely different life circumstances, but they both work really well together and connect deeply anyway. Also best friends to lovers <3.

B'Elanna for the character asks?
How I feel about this character
she’s everything to me. saddest most tragic girl of all time. deeply repressed, anxiety-induced anger issues with self-hatred up to here. idealist but doesn’t want to admit it. strong mad scientist tendencies, if she ever met soong it would be a disaster. i think about her all the time
All the people I ship romantically with this character
seven ofc, really one of the most underrated ships of all time it’s SO good. will make you go crazy thinking about the themes. deeply compelling but because neither of them have any emotional intelligence it’s also very funny. i’m very into her and harry together because i’m a sucker for best friends to lovers and they could be such a compelling pairing on the basis of them both being young idealists on opposite sides of a conflict forced to work closely together. also like i said in my answer for janeway, she and janeway were definitely having an affair in the unaltered endgame timeline
My non-romantic OTP for this character
i really like her mentor/mentee relationships with both chakotay and janeway. they clearly both believe in her so much and that’s a huge part of her character arc. it’s great to see her blossom under their leadership
My unpopular opinion about this character
80% of people can’t talk about her without being weird and misogynistic and racist and i especially hate when people characterize her as angry or combative. she’s really not! she’s always got a valid reason to be angry and usually when she does get angry it’s at either tom or seven who are both fucking annoying. so
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
she should’ve dumped tom when he proposed because like what was that. one of the most depressing displays of heterosexuality ever. girl this is the hundredth time you’ve begged that man to consider your feelings he is not going to change and he does NOT change throughout the rest of the show. accepting his proposal just makes her out to be a total pushover and it’s a deeply lame and sexist writing choice

I really love your take on the episode and the relationship between Janeway and B'elanna.
I think it does take Janeway a little time to understand why B'elanna quit, but when she does, she even sees a bit of herself in her. I wouldn't be surprised if she had a lonely experience at the academy, and I think she gets the "feeling worthless for every little failure" part that B'elanna definitely experienced. Maybe I'm projecting? Idk
Their relationship is incredible
The evolution of Janeway and B'elanna's ralationship in Parallax is kinda insane. In less than 15 minutes, they both go like :
Who the fuck is that bitch and who do she think she is > Temporal mechanics amirite > I think I love that woman

An underrated Voyager moment is when Janeway is being nostalgic about Kirk's era of Starfleet, but then says they'd all be booted out of Starfleet now and some of their stories sound like bullshit

Underrated Prodigy thing: it made Threshold canon again. Janeway has canonically turned into a salamander and reproduced. This is a thing that happened.

We all know how wonderful the friendships between Janeway and Tuvok, Tom and Harry, and Janeway and Chakotay are (honestly Janeway's friendships with all the main characters are pretty interesting and get talked about at least occasionally) and of course Tuvok and Neelix's odd friendship gets attention if nothing else because of that time they shared a body (RIP Tuvix). However there's a lot going on with the other characters that I think is heartwarming and interesting.

👕 & 🍽️? For the trek ask game
Heheh thanks for Asking Meg!!! All aboard another long winded ramble about my wife ST: Voyager!!!!!
👕 Character whose fashion you like.
While I answered in the last one, I think I'll add to it by saying I love the Ds9/Voyager Uniforms--Infact I'm a HUGE sucker for them--At least to me, they feel like THE signature trek costume rather than TNG or TOS ones. Plus, they are fun to draw! I love how they look on the actors with the structured upper half, and loose, high-waisted pants that give everyone the illusion of height.
Those that are dressed in the uniform are portrayed with a respectable heft and a pleasant, overall shape. I know it's not the case, but they look like they are really practical. This is fully intentional as the lead costume designer said they wanted the suits to appear modular and have advantages in different environments. That's why sometimes they are unzipped or twisted around, depending on the narrative.
I could go on and on about them. I act feral over how they look when when all the actors stand together, turned in various ways, posing so that that folds pucker on their joints, or when subtle differences in their body sizes take up screen. It just looks so cool! I'm a big fan of squad-based, colour-coded uniforms and clean silhouettes.
Tumblr media
Most importantly though, it gives them all BODY-ODY-ODY!!!

AYO WHICH LOCATION THEY AT??? CW: GORILLA DUMPIES!!! 👀👀👀 😳😳😳😳
🍽️What alien food/drink would you want to try?
I wish I could find the video but I've seen bits and pieces about how they designed the food on the sets and I think it's super charming!
Lots of effort went into considering the cuisine. It just about decorates every set and It was important to the show. Voyager engaged in a lot visual gags, or dialog discussing food. It was in a comforting way that would present the characters with their personal ideals of home.I find that subtext of world-building really endearing.
Many scenes involved characters bonding in the mess hall, socializing around food, or isolating with it to gain a sense of self. In contrast, it's used as a device for diplomacy, or to make settings seem more alien, unnavigated and removed from regular comforts. It's even incorporated into main plot points, such as with Tuvok in ''Riddles'', when he gains a newfound skill around cooking after a serious accident, and he solves the plot by decorating a code on a cake. Through food, we saw a lot of what it could be like to be a crew member on the ship, and live inside their Universe. It wasn't always pretty but they made it work.
We have a really rich food bowl and diverse food-culture In Australia, I love noticing exotic food that are used as set decoration of as props--I am used to seeing tropical fruit or Asian ingredients around my community, so it's fun to see it transformed. And much like the characters in Voyager, I relate to the comfort and the charting of new territories when it comes to seeing/ eating food.
Tumblr media
I suspect being a chef / working in hospitality would be an interesting occupation in Trek. Everyone complains about the lack of authenticity from replicated food, so I'm sure being a good Chef would be worth your while.
I genuinely want to try Old-mate Neelix's cooking. He seems so creative and passionate about what he plates up, and he CLEARLY (they all put on weight haha) kept the crew well-fed. ''Bitches make do'', but you can tell he cares by the questions he askes everyone, or the detail he places into his recipes. I'd like to see what all the fuss is about with Leeola Root Stew. I bet it's not that bad! (I like bitter food) Or better, serve me up a Jimbalian Fudge cake! It's so quaint how there is an evolution to his work as he gets more integrated with everyone.

I've really enjoyed your posts about Janeway as a Tactician. And was wondering... do you have any thoughts about Janeway's handling of the Borg encounters? 👀👀👀
I end up defending her a lot in Scorpion. I think given the risks she faced and the info she had, shes quite creative and clever, and continues to be in their later encounters too.
I'm glad you're enjoying my rambling posts about Janeway as a tactician! It's one of my favorite underrated skills Janeway has!
re: Scorpion -- Janeway made the best out of a bad situation and even when they found out the Borg instigated the war with 8472. But the fact was 8472 were too blinded by fury -- they point blank stated their intentions: All life will be purged and the weak will perish.
I don't see anything around it because it's better the devil they know than the devil they don't.
Plus, any force that can body the Borg cubes and a Borg planet is already terrifying. And, even on In the Flesh, an episode I don't love, 8472!Boothby also mentioned they can't be reasoned with at that time.
re: Dealings with the Borg
IMO, one of Janeway's best strategies in dealing with the Borg is acquiring Local Knowledge in the form of Seven of Nine.
Yes, Janeway's decision to keep Seven was made out of compassion, empathy, and a sense of duty to restore her individuality.
But also, Seven is the best and greatest resource Voyager has in surviving Borg space and most of Delta Quadrant. Especially since Voyager has crossed the part of space where Neelix's expertise in the Delta Quadrant is no longer relevant.
I think a lot of her tactics are good, although she did get a wee bit cocky when planning to steal from the Borg. Twice. First to steal the transwarp coil and second, to get Seven back.
In battles against the BorgJaneway's had a lot of luck on her side, a Seven's knowledge, repurposed Borg tech, playing on the defense, while keeping a good distance.
And when the time arises: Voyager hits hard, hits fast, and runs really far away.
The only Borg encounter I'm not keen on is Unimatrix Zero and that's because I don't think the two-part episode is good. Also, Delta Flyer gets sacrificed just so it can be a decoy to get Janeway, B'Elanna, and Tuvok onboard a Borg cube to be assimilated.
TLDR, Any fight with the Borg the Voyager and its crew walks away from is already great.

🍓 What’s a fic you’ve written you feel is underrated?
From the amount of views it got, I’m surprised that Caught with Her Pants Down! doesn’t have at least twenty kudos
I tell myself that a lot of those views are just the people who already kudos’d it re-reading it so I can sleep better at night /j
But hey, the people who did like it really liked it and that’s a great feeling
🍌 In your opinion, what’s the funniest joke/reference/pun you’ve made in a fic?
This joke from Indi-Quack!’s What’d I Miss?! is just a number of references smushed together
“Please, you’re only two years older than your delightful ol’ pal, you’re not that old.” Gandra assured the duck. “Besides, you look good for your age. Gyro looks like if Rusty Venture got into a teleporter accident with the dean from Community.”
“Ha!” Della punched Gandra in her arm, “I don’t know who that last guy is, but I’m sure your description is spot-on!”
You can’t convince me that both Della and Gandra aren’t Adult Swim Stoners and aren’t fans of Venture Bros. And yeah, I know I’m not the first one to draw parallels between Rusty and Gyro, but it’s true!
Every DuckTales fan knows which DT17 actors were on NBC’s/Yahoo Screen’s Community so I couldn’t resist reminding the reader that Jim Rash played both Dean Pelton and Gyro Gearloose. And yeah, Della was on the moon when Community first aired so she’s never heard of the show
The teleporter accident is a reference to the Star Trek Voyager episode Tuvix where Lieutenant Tuvok and Chef Neelix fuse into one person that calls himself Tuvix. Janeway kills him. Anyway, this reference is actually alludes to the fact that Gandra is Trekkie which of course is revealed in the Gizmocloud scene. Gandra’s favorite Star Trek series is either Deep Space Nine or Voyager cause she’s that much of a hipster. DS9 is great tho
Also I just love that even though Della doesn’t full understand all of Gandra’s references, she still loves the joke because it’s insulting Gyro

For the ship asks:
What is the most underrated ship, in your opinion?
and
What’s your favorite headcanon of J/7?
and
What’s a meme/quote that reminds you of Bering and Wells?
I can't find the post I reblogged 84 years ago so im just gonna answer the questions skdgksjdfk
What is the most underrated ship, in your opinion?
THERE ARE SO MANY I CANT CHOOSE I would say onda kokoro x kajiyama kaoru, its a pairing from a medical jdrama called Alive: Dr. Kokoro, The Medical Oncologist. it's not really popular compare to other asian wlw pairings BUT THEY ARE SO FUCKING GAY ISTG IM NOT LYING
What’s your favorite headcanon of J/7?
again. I HAVE TONS I CANT CHOOSE but I will try to pick one for this question skjdgfksjdhflk at the moment a matrix resurrection au where in endgame janeway sacrifices herself to the collective to get voyager home and 20 years later captain seven discovered a recorded msg from janeway before she was assimilated years ago in a disabled borg cube and she and some voy senior members yeet themselves back to the delta quadrant to save janeway fast forward they saved janeway from the collective and she said this iconic matrix resurrection quote to seven "There's a part of me that feels like I have been waiting my whole life for you. And that part is like, 'What the hell took you so long?'" this entire headcanon its just me trying to fit this quote for j7 skdfgksdfhk
What’s a meme/quote that reminds you of Bering and Wells?
ohhhh quote lemme think this gifset with elementary quote: "Do you close yourself off to people and deny yourself things that might bring you pleasure [...] because it's some sort of penance?" "Penance?" "For what happened in London; [...] it just occurred to me that it might be something someone might do and not even know it." "You always know it. If you didn't, it wouldn't be penance." JUST STAB ME ALREADY
Thank you for sending me ask although it took me fucking forever to answer ksjdgfkjsfdk im so sorry

Joan Crawford, Dana Andrews, and Henry Fonda in Daisy Kenyon (Otto Preminger, 1947) Cast: Joan Crawford, Dana Andrews, Henry Fonda, Ruth Warrick, Martha Stewart, Peggy Ann Garner, Connie Marshall, Nicholas Joy, Art Baker. Screenplay: David Hertz, based on a novel by Elizabeth Janeway. Cinematography: Leon Shamroy. Art direction: George W. Davis, Lyle R. Wheeler. Film editing: Louis R. Loeffler. Music: David Raksin. Daisy Kenyon is an underrated romantic drama from an often underrated director. Otto Preminger gives us an unexpectedly sophisticated look -- given the Production Code's strictures about adultery -- at the relationship of an unmarried woman, Daisy (Joan Crawford), to two men, one of whom, Dan O'Mara (Dana Andrews), is married, the other a widowed veteran, Peter Lapham (Henry Fonda), who is suffering from PTSD -- not only from his wartime experience but also from the death of his wife. It's a "woman's picture" par excellence, but without the melodrama and directorial condescension that the label suggests: Each of the three principals is made into a credible, complex character by the script and director and by the performances of the stars. Crawford is on the cusp of her transformation into the hard-faced harridan of her later career: She had just won her Oscar for Mildred Pierce (Michael Curtiz, 1945), and was beginning to show her age, which was 42, a time when Hollywood charisma becomes hard for actresses to maintain. But her Daisy Kenyon has moments of softness and humor that restore some of the glamour even when the edges start to show. Andrews skillfully plays the charming lawyer O'Mara, trapped into a marriage to a woman who takes her marital frustrations out on their two daughters. Although he is something of a soulless egoist, he finds a conscience when he takes on an unpopular civil rights case involving a Japanese-American -- and loses. Set beside his two best-known performances, in Preminger's Laura (1944) and in William Wyler's The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), his work here demonstrates that he was an actor of considerable range. Fonda is today probably the most admired of the three stars, but he had always had a distant relationship with Hollywood: He suspended his career for three years to enlist in the Navy during World War II, and after making Daisy Kenyon to work out the remainder of his contract with 20th Century-Fox  he made a handful of films before turning his attention to Broadway, where he stayed for eight years, until he was called on to re-create the title role in the film version of Mister Roberts (John Ford and Mervyn LeRoy, 1955). Of the three performances in Daisy Kenyon, Fonda's seems the least committed, but his instincts as an actor kept him on track.

speaking of insane voyager lines an underrated one is when tom’s like “damn it’s like a maze navigating in here” and janeway leans in and is like “then be a good little mouse and find us the cheese” girl WHAT. she should’ve been written up by hr for that
