jessica jones rewatch review
so, ive just finished rewatching jessica jones because my disney+ access has ended. this will contain spoilers for the entire show.
disclaimer: i last watched it a few years ago with my mom and loved it back then, and my memory of it post season 1 was kind of blurry except for some central plot elements, and that i really disliked hogarth and trish towards the end.
so. season 1 was the best in terms of overall plot, character development, vibe, and consistency in my opinion. the best story and definitley also the best villain, kilgrave fucking slaps as a bad guy.
jessica in general is an awesome character, and has never really left my top three. i love her development, her personality, and her writing most of the time. she tries to live her life and take care of herself, but also helps the little guy when its not a wasted effort, and when she makes mistakes and ends up hurting people the reason is human error, not maliciousness or disinterest in other people, and she generally takes responsibility for her actions.
that said, sometimes her writing is lazy or just bad in order for the plot to happen, but unfortunately thats always a problem that exists.
after that, i have some thoughts. in general, i dont really see the narrative point of many of the side stories in the last two seasons. they only barely had anything to do with the main story (especially hogarths arcs), so that was kind of just exhausting to watch, because i genuinely dislike hogarth and, as i said, there kind of was no point to her scenes most of the time for the main narrative, which didnt make it better. the same is true for the sheer amount of sex scenes. in general i dont have a problem with those, but here they were just redundant in terms of plot most of the time, there were way too many of them especially with that in mind, and because of that there was no value added to the show by them. it felt more like filler, or trying to achieve the rating of the show.
what annoyed me the most was how almost every single main character on the show, with the exception of jessica, became so goddamn unlikeable. the side characters were mostly fine (costa, griffin, oscar, etc.), but trish, hogarth, and malcolm were hard to tolerate later on. thats partially due to the genre of the show and what themes are explored there, but its difficult to sympathize with the characters enough to keep watching for 13 episodes per season, when all they do is manipulate and screw each other over constantly, with almost no redeeming qualities or real consequences for their actions, and im not sure whether id call that a good writing decision. that whole situation is a toxic mess and i really hope jessica found some better people after the show ended.
beyond that obviously the female characters were all deep and complicated people, which is one of my favourite things about this show, but i also really wish that some of them werent written as assholes past season 1.
so yeah, those are my thoughts. still one of my favourite shows of all time, but man do i wish the writing had been kinder in season 2 and 3. really hope jessica will be back in daredevil born again or a future show/movie.
Edit: also im mad that oscar and the potential of a genuinely positive relationship with a good person for jessica, that was built up the entire second season, was immediatley taken away at the start of the third season.

Non-Hazbin Hotel characters that are better than Niffty
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't hate Niffty, I just hate how she was written in the show since Vivienne Medrano is a massive misogynist in the past and still is today.
I know I put Sun on the better than Charlie Morningstar post, I just wanted to added him on the list because some of his characteristics applies to Niffty, but there are differences too.
Now that I've done Charlie, Alastor, Vaggie, Lucifer and Niffty, I will try to do Angel Dust, Husk, and Cherri Bomb (I should've wrote this first when I started doing the Non-Hazbin Hotel characters that are better than "HH main cast" series). I won't be doing Sir Pentious since he is based off on DollCreep... I will make another better than Charlie post but this time with princesses.
EDIT: 7/11/24
Also there was this one video by a professional therapist who analyze Niffty and the therapist thinks she has OCD. I watched her video and I was like, "Uhh, Niffty never got any development yet. Why are you saying she has OCD?". OCD ≠ overly clean or organized, it's a lot more complicated than you think it is. I don't actually have OCD myself, but I'm on a autism spectrum. I'm really good at math and video games, but it's difficult for me to put the words together whenever I try to say or write something. Like, I know what to say, I just need to actually say it. Although I struggle, I will keep improving.

my number one enemy in life is the mf that fucked up the last star wars sequel
its been years and i still haven’t recovered from rise of skywalker that movie was so incredibly disappointing. I honestly really liked (by that i mean love) The Last Jedi and i was hoping the vibes would carry but nOoooO BULLSHIT
Imagine IMAGINE the fucking meaning of the empire being destroyed once and for all by a skywalker (kylo/ben) and a nobody (rey) because they care for eachother because it all started by a skywalker turning to the darkside to save his lover. THERE WERE SO MANY MISSED OPPORTUNITIES
STAR WARS IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT HOPE AND NOT GIVING UP AND THEY END IT BY FUCKING KILLING OFF KYLO/BEN ONCE HE AND REY HAD FINALLY REALIZED THEIR FEELINGS WHERES THE HOPE IN THAT??? WHERES THE STORY OF PERSEVERANCE??
I just wanna say thank you to force awakens and the last jedi for opening my eyes to enemies to lovers, havent been the same since (fuck u jj abrams)

i’m making a list of women in fictional media that are hated by a significant portion of their fan bases because they’re complicated, or deeply flawed, or morally grey, or angry when that is inherently connected to the thematic integrity of the story
so far i have:
Diane from Bojack Horseman
Princess Carolyn from Bojack Horseman
JJ from Criminal Minds
Elle from Criminal Minds
Jordan from Criminal Minds
Ashley from Criminal Minds
Haley from Criminal Minds*
Martha from Dr. Who*
Gwen from Torchwood*
Princess Bubblegum from Adventure Time
Lapis from Steven Universe
Jessica from Jessica Jones
Mary from Sherlock*
Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender
Allison (Cameron) from House*
*shout out if they're also hated because they "got in the way" of a fan-favorite (usually mlm) ship and/or had feelings for the leading man that were not reciprocated
anyways lmk if you have others. idk i wanna collect them all and take care of them or something

I think to myself; I'm not a nerd gatekeeper/snob and think any subclass of fan doesn't really make me go 'ugh you're not a real fan'
And then I remember the JJ Abrams star trek movies

[image description: a comparison of luke skywalker in 'the last jedi' to maverick mitchell in 'top gun: maverick'. under a picture of luke, there is a list of traits that read:
old luke:
old and grumpy
nothing like the real luke
gives up on the jedi
ridiculed
refuses to train rey
sad and pathetic
won't fight
dies for nohing
under a picture of maverick, there is a list of traits that read:
old maverick:
older and wiser
same core character
still believes in top gun
respected
trains new pilots
jaded but inspiring
fights despite the odds
puts his life on the line
end id.]
listen i hate rian johnson and the last jedi as much as the next guy but this post Just Ain't It
#top gun: maverick#the last jedi#first of all if you're gonna talk shit about tlj don't compare apples to oranges to prove your point#mav and luke are completely different characters with completely different motivations#'ridiculed' by whom?? exactly?? if anything mav is the one ridiculed he's literally thrown out of the bar by his own students#and cyclone makes a point of saying he wouldn't piss on mav if he was on fire#whereas luke is respected and feared by Everyone in the galaxy#'sad and pathetic' i hate what rian did with luke's history with kylo too but like can you blame luke for being sad??#and how is he pathetic exactly??#'still believes in top gun' what the fuck does this even mean#mav believes in himself and his wingman and his kids Not in the system#'won't fight' luke very much did fight tho?? that was a thing that happened??#he literally astral projected and fought the first order at the cost of his own life??#(yes that was a stupid way for luke to go out but you can't say he didn't fight.)#second of all if you're gonna criticize rian and tlj Do It Right#talk about him completely sidelining all the characters of color in favor of making the white fascist villain more sympathetic#or rey's entire personality narrowing down to 'kylo can be saved!!' literally five canon minutes after kylo killed han#and then tried to kill finn (for which rey almost killed kylo)#or rose teaching finn (a former stormtrooper) about the cruelty of the first order like he didn't know Full Well firsthand??#or the fact that rian was so invested in telling His Story he tossed everything jj gave him in the trash#even tho it threw a wrench into the narrative and everyone's characterizations and thereby fubar'd the sequel trilogy#also you mean to tell me the man who was so kind and forgave darth vader would've been tempted to kill his own nephew (even for a second)?#I Don't Think So#good characterization shat on because rian and kathy kennedy wanted to make kylo the byronic tragic hero or whatever#which is why it's so shocking that rian wrote knives out and glass onion. apparently he Can give characters of color depth.#he just didn't want to for john boyega and kelly marie tran and oscar isaac.#which. again. is why he's on my eternal shitlist.#my stuff#anti rian johnson#tlj critical

I'm always puzzled by the insistence that Abrams meant for Finn to be Force-sensitive, because if those sound cues are actually the Force (some of the effects on Jakku, also the Hosnian Cataclysm screams) and not just a non-diagetic sound effect (in a franchise which is traditionally extremely literal, otherwise this wouldn't have been fixated on so much), it's deeply weird how little the impact him.
Like, "I heard the death-scream of an entire solar system. Guess it's normal when that happens?" and never thought about it again.
And I can't imagine that being a thing with someone who was already something of a misfit and probably very introspective over that.
Throw that together with the fact that while Rey's awakening is foreshadowed with all the "what girl?!" stuff and they kind-of build to her actually using the Force, I just don't see the same intent with Finn. Indeed, although the plot couldn't happen without him, I feel like the writers are unsure quite what to do with him outside of the plot. And so for me, I just don't feel like him being Force-sensitive was really this thing that was primed only for Johnson to disregard it (not least because of how it's handled in TRoS, but that's a whole other thing).

okay so I know the whole jiara thing. I know it was unintentional in s1, and then in s3, a lot of their writing became very much intentionally setting up jiara to be romantic.
I also want to add that I am both a jjpope and jiara shipper with a leaning or preference to jjpope (and also, thst kie deserves to have a girlfriend), but I've made my peace that jjpope isn't going to happen and that jiara was going to.
that being said, I did not like a lot of the writing for jiara this season. I feel like a lot of their best came from when they were writing jj and kiara as platonic back in s1 in comparison to writing them as romantic in s3.
this is just me however, I mean, I'm sure everyone thinks differently and I'm only on episode 7 so far but I'm just not satisfied at all. and in some ways, I do semi still sish that we had gotten at least one friendship with the boys that didn't go further than just platonic (ofc, kie never liked john b or pope like how she likes jj, but john b kissed her and she and pope dated, and I know she's getting with jj when the season ends).
that being said, as a jjpope and jiara shipper, I will now be delving into the kie and cleo have two hands cause I now also shipped them a little bit after the first two episodes. so who says i can't have jjpope, jiara, and cleo x kie in a happy relationship where they all support and care for each other at the same time??

okay pause on the daddy issues on main for now, tlou2 did a lot of things but one of the best was giving us dina
and so this leads me to connect:
all you had to do was stay except it’s Dina and Ellie :(
:-(
i am once again asking druckmann if we rlly had to do all This
dina is the best part of tlou2 from what i can tell ASSUREDLY
like...maybe we'd all be happier...collectively....with our endless speculation....give us one lil dlc with jesse and dina...call it a day....this is such a grim closed loop it's just not fun!!!!!!!!!!

“she rolled her eyes and scoffed then she talked way too loud and told everyone their feelings didn’t matter and then she punched ianto in the face and then accidentally blew up the hub”
