my dudes i fucking forgot to say anything about it but i figured out what the eldritch creature's deal is for the Horror Theater Kid AU
it's name is Yighraru (name dropped it already by accident)
Yighraru is something of a god of theater, though neither it nor its worshipers would call it that. The most sacred ritual a mortal can perform is to write and perform a musical dedicated to it.
Petruccio and Gonzalo are awful at writing lyrics, but writing and performing a non-musical play is the next best thing, and they’ve got so many of those. They’re working on a musical tho
Yighraru also quite enjoys human sacrifices. Its worshipers believe that dying in its name will earn you a place in a glorious city of all manner of indulgences. Wine, food, entertainment, sex, whatever you want. They're correct, but the thing is Yighraru doesn’t realize that no one leaves because they genuinely can’t.
It doesn’t understand the mortal concept of death. It doesn’t understand that the humans it has surrounded itself with are the spirits of the dead, and it likely never will. It certainly won’t understand what the problem is, since they’re all still ‘here’ and seem to be perfectly happy.
Also, because of how crazy everyone went when its rings were shown off at that one play, Petruccio and Gonzalo think Yighraru is a very bloodthirsty god. It doesn’t understand what that means, but they’re bringing it more friends so it’s fine with them carrying on as they are.
It does also want to come into the physical realm, but its intention is to bring joy, excitement, and entertainment. Unfortunately, this will have the same result as if it had wanted to drive mortals to homicidal madness.
Its form is, like all such entities, an incomprehensible horror that drives people mad trying to understand it. And it’s abundantly clear to everyone who sees or encounters it that it’s extremely powerful. Seeing it, or interacting with items that contain its essence (like the rings), will cause mortals to go mad and try to worship it for a bit of its power.
TL;DR: It's not malevolent, but it's inability to understand these creatures that are so much simpler than it means that it's intentions don't matter at all and it's still a fucking problem and they really shouldn't be trying to summon it to earth.
