The best art teacher I ever had told us to keep a sketchbook and draw three things a day.

They didn't have to be big or elaborate things or full-scale compositions, although we could do that if we wanted. They could be anything we liked, at any level of detail. Three drawings a day so we'd keep in the habit.

My teacher checked our sketchbooks each week to make sure we were keeping in practice.
