To explain what's going on here:

Sometime after the accident in college, Jack ends up using an artifact that his parents used to watch over to lock away his werewolf half and render himself (mostly) "human".

(This is, of course, not obtained without some difficulty. Especially since the artifacts his parents once watched were taken by various museums, none of which were exactly public about what was in their storage. He's got that scar for a reason)

Then, during Bitter Reunions, Vlad tries to make Jack transform, to reveal the "monster" he is.

The artifact, which Jack is still wearing, cracks just enough that it's been slowly, painfully letting Jack's werewolf nature leak through as it continues to break. Turns out, 14 years using an artifact meant to weaken a werewolf to a mostly human state has consequences.
