The PCs within PCs are all some sort of heightened version of their regular selves and I can’t wait to see how it plays out:

Paula- this was pointed out in the AP for the first episode but she’s playing the detective and she saw Liv’s stolen nail polish and thermometer. I wonder if Jack Manhattan will somehow also help her learn to move on from her ex husband via a lover Jack can’t let go of (he’s so passionate about his work! He has no time for love!)

Liv- Also a fairly obvious one. She’s seeking the thrill of stealing something and becomes a crime lord in the film world. Might be a wake up call for her about what that might mean, possible an avenue to explore why she doesn’t want to leave Lake Elsinore (perhaps expectations have been placed on her to perform at a certain level and it’s tiring, which is why she’s stealing).

Wendell- The small snapshot we see of his life is his siblings out riding around while he’s inside working and trying to talk to this girl he likes. There’s also mention of his dad microwaving dinners. There’s a clear parallel to Vic who is non copy right infringing Dom Toretto who is infamous for talking about family (Vic’s focus is on siblings). Possible exploration of sibling dynamics (a betrayal perhaps???), what it means to leave them behind, willingness to move on.

Russell - Loner in his real life with a lot of affection coming from past jobs and unsaved numbers, while Jennifer behaves similarly in that she works alone. Hey did you know that the pack has a better chance of survival than the lone wolf? Wonder if that’ll come up at all. Also possible exploration of gender as that’s something Ally loves to play with in their characters.

Dang - We know that he’s into music, has a number on a poster on his wall that seems to imply that he could easily make some kind of connection about it but hasn’t. He’s also living with his uncle (Russell) at the moment so there’s likely something there too. Greg Stocks is a James Bond type character, suave, high profile, fancy suits, cars, casinos, the whole nine. Also a bit of a loner though likely with far more connections than say someone like Jennifer as he’s working through legitimate channels though takes a less legit approach where needed. Not totally clear what Greg might show Dang about his own life, but they are polar opposites which is going to be a fun thing to watch. He’s already shown though that he has a decent grasp on what Greg is capable of.

Usha - This one I’m so curious about. Usha is all hand drawn spreadsheets and inability to plug in a phone while G13 is a hacker - the two could not be more opposite and I love Rehka for it. I have to wonder if her husband dying when he was super young (27?) effected her in a way that made it hard for her to move on and learn new things? Maybe she started working just to get out and experience life, not realizing how difficult it would be? I think this one might be about moving on and looking towards the future rather than existing in the past.

This is all obviously speculation based on the first episode. A lot of the times the PCs have something to gain throughout the season and the sort of heightened state of an action film will help them uncover things about their own lives. Per Rehka in the Adventuring Party though, Brennan isn’t worried about them “hitting their marks” as much this season - which basically means like intended story beats I would imagine? So it’ll be interesting to see how that affects that overall narrative but allows the players a certain level of freedom that isn’t held back by hitting a particular arc.

Pit Babe Thoughts - What a Banger of a show!

So having just realised I watched the entire CUT VERSION of this show and now planning to rewatch the entire thing from scratch because it's so good I want my extra minutes DANG IT.

I thought I'd put some thoughts down first because DAMN this show may not have been perfectly polished but it was amazing for a multitude of reasons.

Playing fast and loose with pairings and ships.

Now obviously our main 2 ships were our main 2 ships, we haven't entered a parallel universe, but the amount of tension they threw in anytime ANY two sides were together was delicious. It's fun to not know who will end up with who, the show teased and toyed with possible pairings and I LOVED IT.

(Also main ships may have been main but I was half wondering if we WOULD end up with Way/Babe somewhere in the middle there!)

2. Having fun with personalities and sex dynamics.

Now I have recently run across the understanding that a lot of BL is based of one specific pairing type from a much broader range of couple dynamics present in Yaoi and Shounen-ai (super darling X milquetoast) stories. And while this doesn't really feel like we're distant from that pairing type. The show doesn't strictly fit this and certainly plays with the audience perception by having Babe as the Uke.

3. Omegaverse

But also introducing lesser known elements of Omegaverse like Enigma's was extra cool.

4. New settings!

Racing BLs aren't exactly the norm.

5. More playing with lanuguage dynamics

Not brand-new but we got a lot of play around language and age, Papa Mama, Loong and Nu, The way Alan switched around his "I" Pronoun so much. BL not leaning so heavily on Pom and Phi or Gu and Mung or even Khun and Pom is fun to see!

6. A lot of casual physical affection

Now this is definitely becoming more common but I still want to highlight how physically affectionate Babe and Charlie (In particular) got to be with each other the whole time

Overall the series was compelling, intense, and well executed. The relationships (Friendships and romantic) were utterly compelling. I love the way so much teasing was done with all the side peeps. I love how it had real stakes, emotions and consequences. I loved how much it played out the background and relationships of the characters, the way that all of Tony's children felt something for him, were compelled to love and hate and feel responsible. I loved how some people got forgiveness and others didn't and how people's very real pain, anger and betrayal got explored so deeply.

The show was not flawless or perfectly executed by any means.

But it was a compelling and interesting plot with utterly compelling relationships played all the way out without rushing or skipping.

And I loved it

I am off to watch the Uncut Version, can't wait.

 Analysis of Phee and The Bad Batch

I know that this topic has been heavily discussed the last few days, so I apologize if any of these points are repetitive. I also am not discounting anyone’s differing opinions. I was a bit hesitant about shipping Tech and Phee together going into S2 E13, but five minutes in I was fully on board both with this amazingly sweet relationship and Phee being a straight up badass role model who I think is GREAT for the Batch as a whole. 

WHO PHEE REALLY IS

When Phee is introduced I think we all were expecting a typical pirate a la Hondo Ohnaka–funny, charming, dangerous, but ultimately just out for themselves and the chance of financial gain. Phee has way more complexity to her than this.  

Moral Compass: She’s a good person. She has a moral compass, and a great one at that. She spends most of her time traveling the galaxy both to explore history and natural wonders but also to restore artifacts (many of which don’t even hold monetary value) to refugees who have lost their homes and cultures due to war. And she often risks her own life to do so. For a pirate she’s pretty dang honorable. I think this is when Tech really starts to warm up to her, because he is intrigued by and respects her value of these other cultures and her efforts to give people who lost their homes a sense of belonging. 

Intelligence: Phee is so smart both in intellect and emotional intelligence. She’s been around the galaxy for awhile and knows who to trust and who not to, even when she considers someone a friend (cough Cid cough). Her adventures require her to know and love history, science, and the appreciation of the art and cultures that she explores. While her mind works very differently than Tech’s, she has more than enough curiosity and learning to engage with his level of intelligence. 

Bravery: Traipsing around the galaxy searching for lost treasure requires a lot of bravery and survival skills, especially when traveling alone. The Batch have pretty unique skill sets both as soldiers and survivors, and Phee is more than a match for all of them with both weapons and her ability to navigate dangerous situations. 

Compassion: Her dynamic with Mayor Shep and his daughter Lyana, her help throughout the natural disaster the island faces, and the specific ways that she shows care for the Batch members and trusts them with her community, all speak highly of Phee as a person who adds safety and value to all of her relationships, something the Batch members desperately need. 

PHEE BOTH SEES AND CARES ABOUT EACH MEMBER OF THE BATCH

Hunter: He trusts her now. We open with the Batch playing bodyguard as Phee is negotiating a tense deal. Hunter is absorbed in the moment and is fully prepared to defend Phee no matter what. It’s clear that his previous dislike/distrust of her in their first encounters is gone, and that he trusts having Omega around her even in a dangerous situation. Phee has also softened towards him and talks with him quite a lot, both teasing him in a very sibling-like manner: “so why bring us?” “makes you wonder, doesn’t it”, but also quite seriously respecting him as the leader of the squad and the father of Omega. She directly voices her opinions and concerns to him and goes to great lengths to let him know she cares about Omega’s and their future, and he listens to her concerns. She knows that he wants to keep his family safe and settle down, and she wants to give him an example of what that could look like.

One moment that really solidified this for me is how Phee reacted when Hunter pushed in between her and Tech as they were watching the sunset. Someone less acquainted with Hunter’s skills and brooding nature might have thought that he was just cutting between them or dismissed his qualms about what he was sensing. Phee’s reaction proves that she takes Hunter seriously because she immediately knows something is wrong and isn’t at all offended that her moment with Tech was interrupted. 

Wrecker: While their interactions are more sparse, it’s clear that Phee understands Wrecker’s motivations too–food, helping others, rest. She brings them to a place his hunger can be satisfied, where his physical strength is an asset but it’s not the only reason he’s accepted, and she convinces Tech to let him and the girls sleep a little longer when Tech is ready to wake them up. Her face here says it all.

Omega: In episode 5 we could have argued that like some other pirates we’ve had the pleasure of coming across (ahem Hondo again), she might have looked at Omega as just a little sidekick who she could impress and teach a few lessons. Here we see this is not the case. While she is impressed by her fighting skills, Phee is genuinely concerned about Omega’s livelihood and welfare as she gently suggests to Hunter that she needs friends and a stable place to grow up. By bringing them to Pabu she is able to introduce Omega to another girl her age, give her a chance to relax and be carefree, and show Hunter and Tech that there are sides of Omega that need to be nurtured, without dismissing their current life with Omega at all.

Tech: Alright. The main reason why this post is being written 🥹🥹🥹. This little romance is the sweetest thing to me and with how much character growth we have gotten from Tech this season, I think seeing how Phee interacts with him only continues to highlight that growth and social connection.

I cannot get over how sensitive Phee is towards Tech. She understands how his brain works and doesn’t shame him for it, but simply tells him what her thoughts are without invalidating his. She accepts him for who he is while also showing him other ways of viewing the world. The way she pushes lightly against his boundaries and social awkwardness (especially around physical touch), but in a very respectful manner, always giving him the space to pull away or say no. How she knows that he’ll hate an overly boisterous social gathering and lightly teases him about it. How she gets him to put the data pad down and experience the world through his other senses. And as other people have more eloquently mentioned (shoutout to the Star Wars Universe Podcast), how she makes him feel safe. Safe enough for Tech to feel fully comfortable being himself around her, and also to begin to get curious about who she is and her points of view. She is giving him the space to meet her. And boy is he.

We’ve already seen from previous episodes that Tech has a strong moral compass and cares about people suffering in the galaxy. Her sense of moral justice and care appeals to him and he respects it. Tech just watches her in awe and interest at how she deals with people. He is steadily falling for her. She shows him beauty. She shows him compassion. She shows him new ways of relating to others. She understands his family and how they all work together. She matches his level of interest and fascination about the world. And he’s melting in the face of it.

THIS SMILE??? THIS MAN SMIRKED AT HER. SMIRKED, I TELL YOU. 🤩

Putting this caring, sensitive, socially awkward, neurodivergent, nerdy genius of a man and this badass, independent, kind-but-takes-no-bs, intelligent woman of color together is so fun to see. I’m loving these two and can’t wait to see where this goes.

Why Not Ship Sonic with Knuckles Instead?

Why is it that, when Shadow and Knuckles have such similar personalities and dynamics with Sonic, do some people prefer to ship Sonic with Shadow instead of Knuckles? Wouldn’t a Sonic and Knuckles relationship offer the same thing and be more believable since those two are friends?

The answer (in my opinion) is no, it would not, and here’s why I find a Sonic and Knuckles relationship both less believable and less interesting.

(Disclaimer that I’m not knocking anyone who does like the ship. I have no problem with it; it’s just not for me)

Now the first issue I would see with a Sonic and Knuckles pairing is logistics. Knuckles is stationary; Sonic is free-roaming. Never being able to stay in one place for long is a big part of Sonic’s character, and staying in one place for a long time is kind of Knuckles’ whole thing. He guards the Master Emerald and never leaves Angel Island unless he has to, and never for very long if he can help it. Having to stay in an isolated place for a long time would drive Sonic crazy. Maybe a good fanfic writer could reconcile this by playing up the “being in love with you makes me want to stay” schtick, but even that I think would only work for so long. Knuckles wants to stay where he is because that’s his home and he feels an obligation to it. Sonic wants to travel and go where he pleases. And while we don’t know where Shadow lives, it’s safe to assume he’s probably living at least a somewhat nomadic lifestyle because the one permanent home he did have was destroyed. So I think he and Sonic would work better just from that standpoint if nothing else. Shadow has moved on from his past, but Knuckles is still very much tethered to his.

My other issue is that these characters don’t clash over the same things. As I mentioned in my Sonadow post, Sonic and Shadow fight over serious ideological differences that both are equally passionate about defending. When Sonic and Knuckles fight, however, it’s usually because Knuckles got tricked into falling for an Eggman scheme that almost any other character would have immediately seen right through. There are exceptions to this, I’m sure, like in the movie where they fight over which parent was on the right side in the war, but a lot of times they fight because Knuckles is just so dang gullible. Instead of both of them being passionate, it’s more one-sided where Knuckles is passionate but Sonic is smirking at what a dumbass he thinks his friend is. I don’t find that nearly as satisfying to explore and write about.

There’s other factors as well. I think Shadow would be drawn to Sonic because he reminds him of Maria. They’re both blue and kind-hearted, they both love the world and want to protect it, and they both want to explore and hate being trapped in one place for a long time (only in Maria’s case, she can’t really do anything about it). Knuckles doesn’t really have anyone like that in his life. There’s not really any reason for him to be drawn to Sonic in that way, at least no more so than he would be drawn to Amy, Tails, or any other good-hearted person in the series. He admires Sonic for his bravery and good morals, sure, but I imagine he admires Cream for the same reason. The only family we see Knuckles have (outside the Ken Penders comics) is his dad, who always just kinda seems like an older version of Knuckles. Shadow being with Maria makes me think of Shadow being with Sonic, while Knuckles being with his dad just makes me think of Knuckles being with his future self.

And finally, there’s the speed. Only Shadow is a match for Sonic in a race. Knuckles could beat Sonic in a fight, where it’s a contest of strength and power, but he could never beat Sonic in a race. Only Shadow can keep up with him in a race. And I just think there’s something romantic and cool about that.

Knuckles and Shadow may have a lot in common, but they are not the same character. And neither is their dynamic with Sonic.

sooooo, basically just finished night in the woods. it was a-MAE-zing!!!

it was so good to finally be able to play games u've always been wanted to since years and years ago. kinda also wanted to play life is strange. but the dynamics in nitw pulled me in more. i love the dynamics between the main characters (mae, gregg, bea, angus and germ).

there were so many different things to explore. for sure gonna play again for one more time. maybe two. want to achieve as many things as possible! altho it was pretty hard to do the band practice sequence. please forgive my rusty fingers lol

as i've seen someone else played this game before, i knew connection between mae and greeg is so AAAAArgh-mazing! they were the perfect definition of 'partner in crime'. because well they did crimes so well together. they could match each other's freaks most of the time.

but since then things between mae and bea were what intrigued me the most for some reason. like i was SOOO determined to patch things up between two of them.

(guess i have most sympathy toward both since i had the same experience regarding college. more similar to mae's tho. just not as bad)

i felt like those two also had incredible connection with each other, if u paid attention to the way they had conversations. or at least used to. but mae's been away for a pretty long time that they just grew apart. it was pretty dang complicated at the beginning. u know, bea's being bitter and all. and mae being... mae. that's due to lack of understanding between the two of them. thus why i decided only if they talked more, then they could fix things. i was right. i mean, it's still way more complicated than what i explain here. but ofc i can't give too much of the story between them lol

in the end, putting mae and bea together (not like together-together) was what feel more rewarding to me. mae and gregg are FUN duo. doing crimes and all. but mae-bea? lowkey they just resonated more to me. the choice still up to u tho! either way still love all of them!

I love how Wu and Lloyd, when they were younger, had a female friend who ended up using and betraying them, after hiding key info about their motives. Said former friend blames them for failing her (in a manner practically gaslighting), and is obsessed with revenge for this reason. It's like it runs in the family or something, and that makes Misako an outlier with Garmadon.

This isn't Harumi/Aspheera hate, for the record; I freaking love these characters. Which gets me to my main point about what a wasted potential it was for Crystalized (like many other things...) NOT to explore a dynamic between the two as members of C.O.C.K. because they can both relate to one another about their grudge against a member of the FSM family.

In particular, I can't help but feel like Aspheera could've played a role in Harumi's change of heart, given she was already given a surprising amount of screentime in the first half of Crystalized. Because if we're being realistic, learning the Overlord corrupted the Great Devourer in the first place wouldn't make Harumi A-okay with the ninja all of a sudden; I doubt she ever blamed them for creating it, but she still blamed the ninja for failing her. Identifying the Overlord wouldn't cause Harumi to reassign the blame to him, he'd just be another target on her list to get back at; At most, Harumi might help the ninja defeat the Overlord because only they can, and then go back to planning revenge on them right afterwards.

And that's where Aspheera comes into play, as someone who is a mirror to Harumi, who can unwittingly help her self-reflect. With Crystalized already pointing out how pathetic Aspheera's obsession with revenge is, I think Harumi recognizing the similarities she has with Aspheera would help her realize, Oh dang! Is this what I sound like? Is this who I really am? Like Pythor, she also finds Aspheera annoying, and/or her and Aspheera bond over their shared grudges.

But when C.O.C.K. needs a way into the Monastery, Aspheera reveals she knows a route and when everyone asks her how she knows this, she explains how she made a deal with the ninja, went back on it, but then Lloyd still honored the deal by helping her escape. I think that's a really important moment because it really gives an opportunity for Aspheera to self-reflect after being genuinely surprised by Lloyd's grace... Only to return to old habits by accepting the Crystal King's offer of revenge; At which point, she really did make her choice to remain bitter.

And learning how Aspheera continues to spit in the face of the ninja could make Harumi pause and ponder if this is really the kind of person she wants to be, someone who continues to trap themselves in and choose petty, miserable vengeance. In canon, she explains her motive as wanting peace through any means, even through the Crystal King, so this could be a way to explain that Harumi has actually been weaning off of the revenge angle, even if she's found a new motive to wreak havoc.

But with the Crystal King, you could set up Harumi as desperate and in despair, because he holds a lot of power over her and literally brought Harumi to life when her previous idol Garmadon got her killed. By this point, she IS tired, so a part of her really does hope that the Overlord can put an end to all of the conflict. And between this and Harumi realizing what a mess Aspheera is and how uncannily alike they are, it sets things up more for her to let go of past grievances, while also being pragmatic about a 'better world'. At that point, the revelation of the Overlord being the one who created the Great Devourer makes more sense for her arc, because now Harumi is less oriented on being personal, and instead being more practical about lessening harm.

Speaking of other dynamics that we could've seen...

Pythor and Harumi is incredibly obvious, everyone has already said it before. I really do wish they bonded over how they manipulated Lloyd at a vulnerable moment of his life, and are both people who hold that sort of emotional leverage over him; They know what makes Lloyd tick, they pretended to be a friend only to betray him, he's still a scared child in their eyes and they know how to bring out that scared child. Pythor even takes credit for Garmadon's death! Their synergy when it comes to traumatizing Lloyd is eerie.

But at the same time, the Great Devourer in the room is acknowledged with Pythor's role in the whole mess. And Crystalized could then clarify Harumi's feelings towards Pythor; Harumi could explain that Pythor and the Serpentine WERE on her list of targets and still technically are, but during the Sons of Garmadon era, she was also focused on resurrecting Garmadon. And because the ninja are heroes, that inevitably pits them against Harumi even if she didn't have a grudge, so her vendetta towards them had more opportunity to reveal itself, whereas the Serpentine, who were sitting things out, didn't invoke that rage on-screen.

But now Pythor IS here... And like with Lloyd, Harumi is pretending to be chill and demure, totally peaceful, no grudge at all! But then when she and Lloyd are alone in the jungle, she admits that she does plan to get revenge on Pythor and the Serpentine; She's made a deal with the Overlord that once his victory is secured, Harumi will be allowed to command his troops in taking vengeance upon Pythor and the Serpentine. For now, she lets Pythor think she's focused only on the ninja, so he doesn't suspect anything and doesn't attempt to sabotage the Crystal King to avoid his fate.

Conversely, Pythor admits (in Harumi's absence) that he's predicted all of this; However, he feels assured that the Overlord will choose him over Harumi. Because while Harumi only serves the Overlord because he revived her, because he has power over her, Pythor went out of his way to rescue the Overlord at a vulnerable moment in Rebooted, which led to him becoming the Golden Master.

Thus, Pythor has proven himself as unconditionally loyal, and with him having no qualms nor hesitation about destroying the ninja, he's convinced the Overlord will go back on his deal to spare Pythor anyway; And if Harumi keeps trying to do something about it, the Overlord WILL choose Pythor to keep, while casting out Harumi for defiance.

Meanwhile there's Harumi and Vangelis, who were interacting with one another even before Crystalized, and knew about it. Harumi was right there during the events of Master of the Mountain, so Vangelis has been helping her even before the Crystal King and his council were a thing, and Harumi has been funding his ivory city.

So it'd be nice to bring that up, have Vangelis and Harumi already regard one another as professional acquaintances. Vangelis knew of Harumi's survival before anyone else (sans the Overlord of course), and went with her plans even before he knew about them. Without Harumi, there wouldn't be someone paying for a vengestone operation that would require Munce and Geckle slavery. They've been partners in crime who might superficially express sympathy over whatever issues the other has going on.

Given Harumi killed the Emperor and Empress of Ninjago, how does she feel about Vangelis, another king? Does she consider all royalty to be hypocrites whose perfection is built on dark secrets? How does Vangelis regard Harumi, who killed her royal parents, and now has a daughter who he believes betrayed him? Oh god what if Vangelis adopted Harumi to replace Vania. Of course maybe Harumi has given up on the 'surrogate father' thing after both failures, but man.

Likewise, I could see Vangelis sucking up to the Overlord by constantly bringing up the fact that it was HIS Shintarin vengestone that created the Crystal Army, that's his land that's terrorizing Ninjago now. Meanwhile, Harumi brings up how she funded his kingdom, and can bring it back to glory with Vangelis once more as the leader.

Maybe Pythor and Vangelis can both compete for the Overlord's favor; Does Pythor dislike Vangelis, as someone human (or close enough to it) who imprisoned multiple inhuman species underground to achieve his perfect civilization? Maybe he sees some kinship between the Serpentine, and the Munce and Geckles. This could be an opportunity to delve into his motivations for serving the Overlord, back in Rebooted and now; Does he see the Overlord as a means for revenge, even if he was the Golden Master that his own kind dreaded? If he still claims to fight on behalf of his kind, Pythor might have thoughts about Vangelis' dynamic with the Munce and Geckles.

And that extends to his relationship with Aspheera, given they're both imprisoned Serpentine operating on vendettas, but under very different circumstances. Aspheera completely missed out on the Serpentine Wars, their entombment, their return, the Great Devourer, and reconciliation with humanity. For Aspheera, this may have all been a natural evolution of the uneasy truce between human and Serpentine that in Mambo V’s case, was very easy to interpret as violated. Even if she didn’t have any particulate spite or wariness towards humans at the time, she didn’t seem to be all too much for them either.

But now Aspheera really hates Wu. So in addition to all that, it's feasible that Aspheera, who at this point is looking for an excuse to be angry, would just feed into Pythor's larger vendetta against humanity, and participate in it. She'd see he hates Wu and encourage him. All the while, Pythor could've known Aspheera as a Serpentine legend, so that makes her his elder by technicality. Maybe he even related to her, as someone who (in the Serpentine’s version of events) got done dirty by a human!

So maybe he isn't mocking her obsession with revenge, maybe he fully agrees; Or Pythor is kind of a hypocrite who dismisses Aspheera as merely being salty over how she failed to seize power, whereas HIS rage is actually righteous and justified because it speaks on behalf of all Serpentine, never mind the fact that he's an outcast to Serpentine society now, as is Aspheera. Maybe he hears the full story from Aspheera and is disappointed she isn’t as much of a perfect victim as she claims to be, but is emboldened by how Aspheera tried to push the Serpentine into taking over Ninjago before he did.

Aspheera may or may not be ticked off by Pythor's hypocrisy and they're both awful idiots and Harumi is dreading that she's actually like them, which makes her second-guess her grudge motives so that when the Overlord's role with the Great Devourer is exposed, she doesn't even have peace as a reason to support him/oppose the ninja anymore.

As for Aspheera and Vangelis... I guess compared to Pythor and Harumi at least having more claim to sympathy, their original motives were already based in wanting more power and glory. I guess they might bond over feeling personally betrayed by one specific person they once cared about, and acting as if that person is at fault, and not their attempted power grabs; Those people being Wu and Vania respectively.

They might share in leveraging the claim that these people should be grateful to them for what they did, whereas Pythor and Harumi can't even pretend to say that to Lloyd. So Aspheera and Vangelis both wallow in self-pity and are baffled over how anyone could ever do this to them, but it's much more openly pathetic and a sham with this duo.

Tbh I don't really have anything to say about Mr. F or the Mechanic; Mr. F is silent and doesn't have a personality, just programmed loyalty to Harumi, so he's only really an extension of her. And alas the writers, despite having an opportunity to bring back the lost Echo Zane/Mr. E plotline, didn't do that by making Mr. F a different a character entirely, and having Echo interact with Jay between Seabound and Crystallized in a separate side story.

As for the Mechanic... I just feel like there's not much to talk with this dude, he's just a power-hungry thug to annoy the ninja between their actual villains. Although Prime Empire did give him a bit more motive and depth, what with his grateful reverence towards Unagami for restoring his sense of feeling. Of course, he chickened out when Unagami actually showed up, so maybe someone can bring it up to call his efficacy into question; How do they know he won't do the same when the Overlord performs a big display of power?

The Mechanic does mention allying with the Overlord for safety, so it may just be that reason, whereas Unagami was just lashing out angrily and without much rhyme or reason. I wonder if he can at least convince himself that the Overlord is what he expected out of Unagami, a savior who will make a new paradise, so maybe him and Harumi have that similarity there.

Man... Both waves of Ninjago that brought back past villains ended up being a letdown, particularly in the villain dynamic part. Day of the Departed at least has the excuse of only running the length of two standard Ninjago episodes; Crystalized ran the length of fifteen!!! That's the longest any story arc of Ninjago has gotten, even longer than Seasons 1 or 2!

But instead we had to waste several episodes on that frustrating cop and prison subplot with Hounddog McBrag, who didn't even do anything and should've been a non-issue. Between him and the mayor who disappears as soon as the Overlord actually starts attacking, and the writers should've instead allocated screentime towards fleshing out C.O.C.K., addressing the ninjas' trauma and/or dynamics with the villains, etc. I do not care at all for the rushed redemption of an annoying wannabe cowboy who doesn’t even show up to help at the end of the series.

Asha’s still mad at you for your last question. Sorry, Flicker. So I’ll be answering your question for her! Totally not bc my iPad died and I want to answer this right away lol

Short answer… yes.

Long answer? Uh, yeah. She’s the one that let Cielo in, and she goes into a panic attack because of that. When she actually sees them for the first time, she’s about to spiral again, but stops herself because she has to get the star before Magnus sees. That’s the thing about Asha, she has incredible denial. She tells herself [redacted], but she cares more about Magnus and Amaya than she lets herself realize. Cares about everyone more than she lets herself realize.

Their actual first meeting, when they talk, Cielo is all excited and happy but recognizes Asha is panicking and tones it down a bit. Asha is also sort of in shock because he’s acting understanding towards her and helps pull her out of another panic attack. Then there’s the whole “I’m a Star” thing (which, for the record, I’m going to edit) and chaos ensues.

Cielo shows Asha stuff about herself that she’s been denying all this time. That the Stars that killed her parents and wreaked havoc on the world were… something I’ll be exploring a bit more later on.

But also, seeing a star in her kingdom just wipes away that facade Asha put up, the spoiled royal brat face she shows everyone. So it’s sort of because of her fear, and Cielo helping her overcome that fear, that the true Asha is able to show herself (ha! Disney reference)

what are some of your fave Sonic games? ✨

Well, I'm actually not much of a gamer, (and also don't own a console 🥲) though I've played like halfway through Sonic Unleashed and partway through Sonic CD. (I've been stuck at a daytime level in Holoska for over a year 🥲) I did play all the way through Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, though. BUT. If you're talking story-wise, I can answer a lot more easily! These answers will be based on the story, not the gameplay. 😁

Sonic Frontiers is definitely one of my top favorites. It legit made me CRY. 😭 I felt each and every one of the characters, and they felt so so ALIVE. Sonic's different dynamics with each of his friends stuck out to me, especially with Tails. 🥹 Not to mention Sage's introduction and her entire arc. 😭❤️ Frontiers came out shortly after I joined the fandom, so it's extra special to me. It was a lovely introduction to the core of the game versions of these characters. 🤩

I also love Sonic Unleashed! Sure, it may be hard for me to play lol, but the story is so dang good. I love how it explored who Sonic is, as a person, once stripped of his signature speed. And he didn't disappoint. 💙 He's still so caring, so selfless, as he decides to start looking after some random little guy who'd lost his memories. Right after getting electrocuted, infused with dark energy, and shot out through space to smash into the planet, no less. He always wants to help, and in this case it just so happened that his general kindness and selflessness got him a friendship with a deity. 😂💙

I love the classic story of Sonic Adventure 1 & 2! Shadow as a character is SOOOOO amazing, and I always love to see him. I love certain elements of Sonic 06, such as Team Dark's dynamic and portrayal, and Silver and Blaze's close relationship. 🤍💜 I love Sonic & the Secret Rings, with Sonic's kindness (and snarkiness, and silliness) on full display in his friendship with Shahra. I love Sonic & the Black Knight for its AU feel and spectacular medieval setting and beautiful writing. I love elements of Sonic Colors, especially Sonic and Tails's bond. I love the Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog for its slice of life feel, everyday life characterization, and dynamics. I love Sonic Dream Team for it's beautiful animation, fascinating and entertaining story, and the introduction of Ariem. 💙

I just love the vast majority of the content there is. 😅 I got a little carried away, didn't I? 🤣

Top 10 Dream & Love/Reader Moments

(In chronological order because I can’t rank my children, lol)

1. Part ii - Dream and Love’s First Meeting.

This is definitely a Top 10 moment. I remember being so excited to write Dream for the first time and to describe him through Love/Reader’s eyes. Establishing their relationship (especially Love’s habit of challenging Dream), writing their first little bit of “tension,” and then adding the abrupt end was so much fun for me.

2. Part iii - A Day in the Life of Love

This was another favorite early on. This chapter was entirely dedicated to establishing Dream/Love’s dynamic and revealing the inner workings of Love’s world, and I adored every second of it. Writing Dream’s obvious surprise at Love’s passion for simple pleasures (coffee and earl grey, anyone?) and his (thinly veiled) interest in her function were opportunities to show off Dream’s curious nature. I also loved writing the opening scene of him showing up in her room unannounced, reading a novel, with no regard for her personal space. To me, this emphasized just how otherworldly Dream is, particularly in comparison to how strongly Love clings to her past as a mortal.

3. Part viii - Dream Gives Love the Pouch of Sand

This gift from the Dream Lord was something I was really looking forward to. It definitely signals a turning point and a big step for our Dream Lord. Dream’s downplaying of how thoughtful it was for him to introduce Love to Hob is 100% thick-headed, pulled-the-wool-over-his-own-eyes Dream material. Also, this scene gives us the first time that Love refers to the Dream Lord as “Dream.” Up until this point, it had been Dream Lord, Lord Morpheus, Morpheus - another subtle but significant development!

4. Part ix - The Whole Dang Chapter

This is one of my all-time favorites of this series. I was so excited to finally put together all the pieces and reveal Love’s complete past to the reader. I was even more excited to write Love journeying to the Dreaming for comfort and finding solace in our Dream Lord. This chapter has our first truly voluntary touch by both parties (When you slip your fingers into the palm of his waiting hand, you’re surprised at the smoothness you find there. Soft as silk.) I was also dying to finally write from Dream’s perspective in this chapter. His evident desperation to gain answers about Love’s past without really knowing (or at least being able to admit to himself) WHY he wanted to know – so fun. Plus, their attachments start forming! So much going on in this chapter.

5. Part x - Love’s Grapples with the Fall

On a deep note, I adored exploring Love’s difficulty grappling with her feelings for Dream in this chapter. Getting to see how her past impacts her current decisions and how it cultivated this strong sense of hesitancy to fall in love out of self-preservation… this was a blast. On a more light-hearted note, writing the scenes where Love begins to notice little things about Dream that she didn’t before, her nervousness in his presence, all her little “simping” moments were SO MUCH FUN, AH.

6. Part xii - Love Submits to the Truth

Writing the scene where Love visits Dream unseen in his throne room was one I was looking forward to for a long time. There was a sweet surrender to this scene – the simple pleasure of being able to really look at him, unabashed and unashamed; admitting his beauty to herself; submitting to the truth of her feelings. That moment where you see someone you care about in a different light for the very first time, where you realize that what you’ve been feeling is actually love… This experience is one I’ve actually lived out in my own life, so writing this scene was very special to me.

7. Part xiii - Protective Dream + “I Remember You”

I mean, need I say more? Getting to finally write Protective Dream was SUCH a huge payoff. I’ve always subscribed to the concept that Dream is not unfeeling; rather, he almost feels too much, and must contain it for the sake of his function. Getting to open the floodgates a bit in this chapter was a thrill. Also, the realization that a part of Dream remembered Love, had always remembered Love, had been aware of her removal from the Dreaming on the night of her murder, and Love’s “Please don’t tell me that, Dream” that followed after his confession – *screams internally*

8. Part xiv - THE Dream and The Break-Up

The “dream” scene where Love and Dream finally give in to their feelings was actually the first scene I ever wrote for this story. Needless to say, the buildup was LONG. Finally getting to write these two lovebirds having a happy moment and opening up to one another gave me all the feels. The exchange of vows!! And then, of course, we had the whiplash of Love declaring her need to stay away from Dream later in the chapter. One love interest lying about their feelings to protect the other love interest is a hill I WILL die on.

9. Part xvi - The Sacrifice

Because I’m a sucker for some good old heart-stopping, gut-wrenching, knock-the-wind-out-of-you angst. This part had it all - Love missing Dream while in the Garden of Forking Ways, Love finally harnessing the full potential of her function, and then the ultimate sacrifice. I remember being so nervous to write this chapter, as it felt the entire story was riding on its shoulders. Dream learning of their attachments, Love’s acceptance of her fate knowing that it was worth it to protect Dream, her admitting her feelings, Dream promising to “find her” – it all set us up for our final chapters.

10. Interlude – Dream’s Vow

Honestly, any time I got to write for Dream was a major highlight for me in this story. Definitely planning on writing a one-shot entirely from Dream’s POV after the story is over. Describing the aftermath of Love’s sacrifice from Dream’s point of view, his utter devotion, his utter destruction – oof, it was a doozy. The angst was rough, but it all set us up for that final line – “And, in that moment, Dream of the Endless knows.”

Bonus: Any dock scene/”Twenty Questions” scene. I love writing for these two dorks. Enough said.

Hi! Just super curious about what are your top three favorite Ryan Gosling movies and why?

Firstly, thank you for the question!!! You had me fighting for my life trying to decide, but I think I've narrowed it down to these three in order of favoritism based on what I have watched. There's still a (very) small handful of movies with Ryan Gosling that I haven't seen.

When it comes to picking a favorite movie, the characters and the themes/overarching motifs are what speak to me. So these picks are based on vibes, not anything technical... if that makes any sense?

1. Drive

This is my favorite movie even outside of the Ryan Gosling qualifier. I was hooked from the minute I heard Driver's opening dialogue. Driver's swinging between violence and tenderness? The futile destruction of everything to keep a found family dynamic intact because he needs it so badly? The intensity of Driver himself? The way he's largely silent, but there's so much to be read in the absence of words? I'm feral for it all.

The threads from some scenes connecting to others in unexpected ways was phenomenal (the no good sharks scene tying into the car chase with Nino gets me every time). I loved the setting, the characters, the lighting, the soundtrack... just all of it. 10/10. I could write entire essays on this movie.

2. Blade Runner 2049

I found the character of K to be so compelling. His devastating exploration of what it means to be a human being, to be important in a way that he feels matters... it's heartbreaking. I was also drawn to the relationship he had with Joi. It was a bittersweet insight to K's mind and his desire to be wanted, loved.

It's a movie that has stuck with me ever since I first watched it. There's numerous scenes and lines that have taken up residency in my thoughts. The performance that Gosling gave was truly incredible. He breathed so much life into a character that, by all rights, should have been a soulless, stoic machine. As with Drive, I could go on and on about this movie.

3. The Gray Man

This is a movie I don't mind watching again and again (It's turned into a bit of a comfort movie, I'm afraid). I absolutely loved the character of Courtland Gentry/Sierra Six. He stands out in a sea of misogynistic, arrogant "macho men" that tend to populate movies of this genre. He's resilient, he's personable, and, most importantly, he's kind. Despite his line of work, there's this massive capacity for care that we see throughout the movie. It doesn't make his life any easier (we see it negatively affect him time and time again), but he doesn't lose that aspect of himself regardless of the outcome. That's the kind of thing that makes me root for a character and actually get invested in their story.

I also really enjoyed his dynamic with Claire and Fitzroy. I'm always a sucker for found family and grouchy, fictional men metaphorically adopting kids.

It was so difficult not to put Barbie or Stay on this list.

I adore the Barbie movie so much, but it didn't feel right to put it on a Gosling-centric list because it's at least as much a Margot Robbie movie as it's a Ryan Gosling movie. Ken is such a great character and I think Gosling went above and beyond and put his whole heart into the performance. It's a ten in my books for sure, so just because it's not one of these three, that doesn't mean I forgot about it or didn't like it!

Stay very nearly unseated The Gray Man for the third position. I love the character of Henry Letham. I also love dang near everything about the movie. It's just a hard watch for me, too personal in a way that makes it difficult to have the same rewatchability as its competitor.

What it could have been

Smut

I stumbled into the great hall where another study hall was being held. Students of all ages and houses were clustered around the hall. I searched the room looking for my friends. When a familiar voice hummed, “Hey gorgeous, why don’t you come sit with me?”

I rolled my eyes at Potter, “and why would I even consider that?”

Potter flashed a big smile, “Because… because we have a transfiguration essay together.”

I groaned, “We have a month to do that. I rather go study for the charm’s test we have tomorrow with my friends.”

“I can help with that. I’m good at charms and also need a good study buddy.” He continued.

I signed, “Alright, do you have the study guide? I lost mine.” I asked as I sat down with him.

His friend Hermione, handed hers to him, and he gave a triumphant smile, “yes.”

I rolled my eyes again, “Close enough,”  I placed the booklet between the two of us a began to read a loud. “Alright…. So….um the Impervious charm makes an object water repellent. So does that mean that we can use our wands like an umbrella?”

“Yep.” He hummed.

“And for objects is it also like an umbrella or does it just become waterproof like a rain coat?”

“Um… like an umbrella. I don’t think that part will be on the test though.”

“Yeah… I suppose… the anti-Alohomora charm… really on the nose that one…” we continued until we were finally were dismissed.

“(Y/n), I know that I get on your nerves but I was hoping that it’s in a good way cuz I would really like to go on a date with you.” The usually cocky and infamously popular boy stood up fidgeting and nervous.

I raised my eyebrows, “Potter… you have never shown me any kind of interest before. You once glued me to my chair in potions class!”

Harry seemed to some how turned a even deeper shade of red, “Yeah, I’ve done a lot stupid things… glued you to your chair, your shoes to the floor…liked other girls even, but that’s neither here nor there.”

“Well damn Potter, you just giving me whiplash! Dang… I don’t know… can I think about it?”

He nodded quickly, “Yeah, yeah, yeah, of-of course! Yeah! Take your time.”

…

I sat in bed with my book unable to concentrate. Knowing I had a test tomorrow didn’t help but Potter’s question was more prominent of a distraction. It was going to have to be dealt with now, if there was going to be any hope for sleep or even focusing for the test. So I headed out of my dorm and made my way to the Gryffindor tower. It wasn’t hard to get in the house or locate Harry who was laughing with his friends in his dorm. I know a violation but I was on a one track mindset kind of train so I made myself known, “Harry… I need to talk to you…” I say nervously.

Harry smiled confidently, “Of course darling.” He led me out of the house and to the astronomy tower, “Alright beautiful, what are we doing?”

“Why did you ask me out? Am I some kind of conquest? What is going on! (Pretty girls name) was gorgeous, I got why you dated her. But look at me, I look like a troll compared to her.” I asked clearly beginning to spiral.

Harry took ahold of me firmly, “Look at me, I think you are gorgeous. And you are over thinking this. I like you. We have good banter and I think chemistry too. I know I make you anxious because you will never sit with me the first time I ask. You are quiet until you aren’t and I love when you aren’t. You get really into the topic and you just explore it completely. I want to get to know that person. That’s the point of dating isn’t it?” He chuckles.

“This isn’t some cruel joke?” I asked nervously.

Harry leaned forward until he was a breath away, “Have I ever led a girl on? No will I ever? No. Girl’s hearts is one of the few things I take seriously. Why don’t we move up that date and go snag some sandwiches from the kitchen and come back here.”

Harry was always supportive of my little oddities and he always wanted to help when I was an anxious mess. I sat in bed waiting for Harry to get home from work, I had the day off but unfortunately he didn’t. So I spent the day taking it easy. But an hour before Harry got home I got myself together enough to go make him dinner. He came home and wrapped his arms around me, “Smells great, love.” He hummed.

“Glad you think so… how was your day?” I asked.

“Stressful… Malfoy is a pompous ass who loves to make an ass of himself!”

“Oh? What happened this time?” I hummed as I leaned back into him.

I chuckled as I set down our plates at the table, “Isn’t that apart of his job?”

He smiled, “Much. Now how was your day?”

I shrugged, “You weren’t here so I just napped most of the day… just got up to make you dinner really.”

He took a big bite of his food, “that sounds like a good day. Thank you for getting up to make me dinner, it tastes amazing! So I was wondering if you could get the last week of next month off because I was hoping we could go on a cruise with my uncles.”

I gave him a nervous smile shifting uncomfortably, “I’m sorry but I don’t know if that’s a good idea… Remus is lovely but Sirius makes me feel uncomfortable.”

Harry nodded, “I understand… but this cruise ship will be massive if he becomes too much then we can just find another area for a break.”

I raised my eyebrows, “your uncle has no ability to back off. Or boundaries.”

“Remus has promised to help get him to behave and Sirius himself said that pranks on or near you would be off the table as it’ll be an enclosed space and he knows none of us will be talking or socializing with him if he does anything to upset you. So you know… I know he’s a bit much but he won’t hurt you ever. I know he makes you anxious but he raised me and it would mean a lot if you could go on this family outing. Maybe come out of that introverted shell for just a little while. I love you as is but it would be nice if you ventured out every once in awhile.”

“He promised no pranks?” I asked tentatively.

“On you.” He corrected.

“Make it no pranks in general we both know how they go wrong, and it’s a deal.”

“Okay then he’ll have to make sure that you’re with him when he does them cuz he doesn’t know how to behave that much.”

“I will settle for just knowing the details. But okay.”

I sat on our bed with an empty suit case trying to think of what I needed but wasn’t really sure as I had never been on one of those things.

“Babe… oh?” Harry stopped in his tracks holding a few bathing suits in different cuts. “What’s happening here?”

“I don’t know what to pack.” I whispered.

He set down what he had and began to go through my things “Well we should have one jogger set as it’s supposed to be warm but it’s good to have something just in case. Like I said it’s going to be warm so plenty of shorts. Two jeans shorts, four comfy shorts. Some tank tops and t-shirts. Now you just need your toiletries, flip flops, to pick out your bathing suit and maybe some sunglasses. Oh!” He goes back to the dresser and grabs a handful of my underwear and plops them into the bag. “Nearly forgot to pack you some panties. That is probably needed.”

I blushed profusely, “Thanks babe… now what did you come in for?”

He smiled, “well I got some new bathing suits but I’m not sure what style I want. What do you think?”

I looked over the options, “I like the shorts and the cropped shorts.”

“Great, I will return the others. So excited!”

The day came when we were to head to the cruise and I had on a nice sun dress, a sun hat with sunglasses and white shoes. Harry matched his shirt to my dress and we met his uncles at the boarding area. “(Y/n), it’s good to see you.” Remus smiled as he extended his arms.

“You too… Sirius.” I acknowledge as I give Remus a hug.

“(Y/n)… so we all ready?” Sirius boomed.

We boarded the ship and headed to our conjoining rooms. The room was very nice and I couldn’t say it wasn’t comfortable, which helped my anxiety. I sat on the edge of the bed as Harry placed our clothes in the dresser. “This might be nice.” I hummed.

Harry looked over his shoulder with a smile, “Yeah? I hope so too. I know it’s not easy for you but I’ve been looking forward to this and I know that you get nervous about these things. So you feeling good?”

“Yeah… you know how I get. But right now I feel like I did when we first started dating.”

“Nervous but focused?” He chuckled.

“Yep… you know me well. So now what?”

“In an hour we’ll need to go to orientation and then we’ll have time to explore the ship.”

I nodded, “Okay so we have some time?”

He shrugged as he finished up and came to sit with me, “Yep, do you want to see if Remus and Sirius want to go over the itinerary?”

I nodded quickly and almost on cue his uncles entered the room through the adjoining room door. “You kids decent?” Sirius laughed.

I turned red while Harry simply threw an arm around me and squeezed, “Yeah, just got settled in and were about to go ask you to join us in planning the day.”

Remus nodded, “That’s a good idea, we have orientation today, then we should figure out where things are. Then stop for lunch. After lunch I already signed us up for an art class. Then some free time we could use to finish exploring the ship. Dinner and then we can stop by the theater. Today is mostly just traveling but tomorrow the good stuff will start.”

“Sounds like you already had that planned out.” Harry laughed.

“Of course, though I’m surprised (y/n) hasn’t already planned it.”

“It’s not my trip to plan and luckily Remus is like me in planning.” I chuckled nervously.

Sirius rolled his eyes, “Neither one of you know how to relax.”

“Planning is relaxing.” Remus and I corrected.

Harry laughed and kissed my shoulder, “Well I appreciate it. But I think it’s time to head out.”
