Did I forget it was Friday again? Of course I did. 7: Black Friday Shopping. + Willie and Flynn. Because I feel they're the only ones who would throw themselves into that chaos.

Willie wandered into the kitchen, taking in how covered the kitchen table was, Flynn at the head pouring over the scattered papers. “Hey chica, whatcha doin’?”

“Making a battle plan for Black Friday,” she replied distractedly. “Gonna got those sale racks hard and get all my shopping done in one fell swoop this year.”

“Oh man, the dreaded holiday shopping trips. I gotta knock mine out too,” Willie groaned. “Maybe I should take a page out of your book, do it all in one day.”

“You’re welcome to join me. We leave at three in the morning.”

“Three?”

“Sales start at five, need to stop for coffee before we get in line. Dress warm, wear good shoes.” Flynn then looked at him, “Feel free to back out if you want, I can fight back all the pushy Karen’s on my own. But if you come, you gotta keep up, I will leave you behind if you fall.”

Willie held his hands up, but grinned, “Oh believe me I know. Hate to be the person who gets between you and a sale. Your killer instinct is terrifying.”

Flynn gave him a slightly feral smile, “Kind of necessary when you’re dating Carrie.”

Willie laughed at that, and the two agreed to their attack plan, both heading off to bed exceptionally early in order to fight the raging hordes of shoppers the next morning.

Willie groaned as his alarm went off, Alex still sound asleep beside him. He had elected to sleep with ear plugs in, and wished him good luck. “Better you than me,” he had said before falling asleep. “Flynn’s a shopping terror on a good day, would hate to see her on the biggest shopping day of the year.”

Willie showered quickly, tossing his hair back in a messy bun and throwing on his comfiest clothes and shoes. He could hear Flynn beeping the horn to her obnoxious VW Bug as he grabbed his wallet and dashed out the door.

“You’re late,” she said as she veered out of the driveway, her bright orange car the only one on the road. “We’re gonna swerve through the nearest Starbucks for quads of coffee and breakfast sammies. You vegan this month?”

“Vegetarian,” Willie conceded. “I missed cheese and eggs.”

“I don’t know how you do it. I couldn’t live without bacon.”

“Your boyfriend does,” Willie commented.

“Only around the high holy days. He’s not kosher the rest of the time. And he only does that to appease MeeMaw.”

“No one messes Chavalah Peters,” Willie admitted.

Soon enough, bellies full, and thrumming with caffeine, they pulled into the first store on their list. Electronics.

If Willie thought Flynn was terrifying, he hadn’t seen anything. The people pushing and shoving to get discounted TVs and SodaStreams. He swore he saw one woman bite someone to get the latest iPhone. He managed to snag a few games for Reggie and Carlos, plus a new set of headphones for Carrie, complete with pink cat ears.

Flynn emerged from the fray with a towering pile loaded on a dolly, smiling and calm, though she glared at the biter, flexing her nails.

The next store was much the same, only people were fighting over clothes and shoes instead of appliances. Willie kind of stood back in awe as Flynn maneuvered through the crowd to grab him a pair of sneakers for Julie and a few band tees for Luke.

By lunch time, Flynn’s car was full, they were both flagging, and agreed that they were done. They made their way home, with Flynn thanking him for a great day, and collapsed on the couch for a nap.

“Never again?” Alex asked as he came to tuck Willie in.

“It was scary and exhausting, but I actually had a lot of fun,” Willie admitted with a yawn.

“You’re crazy,” Alex said with a fond shake of his head. “I just buy everything online. But you survived, and Flynn came back with a smile, so good job.”

Willie was fast asleep before the last word fell from Alex’s lips, not even registering the gentle kiss pressed to his temple. A soft smile on his face despite the aches all over his body.

However, the Series 8 contains sensors that are sophisticated enough to measure an ECG (or EKG) on your wrist in 30 seconds. A blood oxygen sensor is also included, allowing you to monitor your blood oxygen levels. And the improved temperature sensor on Series 8 implies better cycle monitoring, which is useful for family planning because it provides deeper insights into the menstrual cycle. It even evaluates ovulation estimations in the past. Furthermore, it will measure your body temperature while you sleep for everyone, which can provide health insights.

Another feature shared by the Ultra, Series 8 and SE is crash detection, which is made possible by the addition of a new sophisticated accelerometer capable of monitoring up to 256G force levels. This is eight times more powerful than the accelerometer included in prior Watches. It implies that if you're in a car accident and don't reply, the Watch can alert emergency personnel and reveal your precise location. It must be a cellular-enabled Watch or connect via a signal picked up by a paired iPhone. It's worth noting that all iPhone 14 series handsets include crash detection.

So, you’re ready to foreswear your Apple devices ever and more, then, are you? Okay! Let’s review some options.

TL;DR, Refurbished Windows 7 computer and whatever Android phone your carrier has on special.

In the computer department, you should really look into a refurbished Windows 7 computer. Desktop computers are easy to modify, and it’s not even against Microsoft’s licensing agreement! Yeah! You can just take the side panel off your PC tower and add your own RAM, video cards, whatever, right onto the main board! Laptops are a little more difficult, but only insofar as you need to know what you’re going to do with the machine before you order it. Are you going to be using it for games? You’ll need 16+ GB RAM and a video chipset geared toward gaming. Using it for music and audio production? 8-16 GB RAM, lots of storage. Just using it to jot down ideas in WordPad (Windows’s more-or-less-equivalent of Pages)? 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage (these are the minimum, cheapest options available usually). Obviously, the higher the capability, the more expensive the computer will be. Laptops are usually uncustomisable, too. You can replace your SSD and your optical disc drive (if you have one-- I highly recommend getting a computer that has one), but RAM, video, and audio chips are soldered onto the motherboard and changing them out is difficult or impossible. Cost-wise, a mid-range refurbished Win7 computer is only gonna run you about $250. Compare that to the $1800 Macbook you’re reading this on. Sell that crap for cost, then get yourself a refurb laptop AND desktop!

Now, phones. I know people are telling you, “just jailbreak your iOS device and you’ll be fine”, but the point here isn’t pissing off the company by bending your license agreement, the point is to completely deprive the company of money by changing from iOS to Android. But, yeah, you should totally root your Android device. If you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself, you can take your phone to a computer repair shop and they’ll do it for you, for a marginal fee that is. Other tumblr users have pointed out that there's a giant steaming pile of junk Android devices because it's an Open Source platform. And it's not just the dirt-cheap phones from Dollar General that have this problem-- Best Buy and phone stores willfully offer rubbish as well. A junk phone might have an older version of the system chip that can't upgrade past an obsolete version of Android, making it a problem to run apps. Some might be physically cheap, made out of the same vacuformed plastic that toys are made from. If money’s tight, you’re not out of luck fortunately! Because, carriers tend to run specials, especially toward the end of a product line's lifespan, in order to shift the old stock. I speak from experience; I got my Galaxy Note 8 at a steep discount because the Note 9 was slated for the next quarter, so I got what was a $1000 phone up to that point for $550 (or, about $24 a month for 2 years). It has an Alexa-type monitoring system in it, but since I never set it up and revoked all the permissions it needs to actually function, I’m pretty well assured that it doesn’t work-- plus I always put the phone in Flight (or Airline) Mode when I’m not using the Internet for anything.

The big difference between Android and iOS imo is memory managment and battery life. Most Android devices have a MicroSD slot, which can double or triple the amount of onboard memory. My Note8 has 128 GB of storage space to begin with, and I installed a 256 GB MicroSD card, so my phone has a total storage capacity of 384 GB. My iPhone 6S had 32 GB of storage, which was unexpandable. So, for reference, I had to rotate photo files off my iPhone about every 2 months, whereas I have NEVER had to remove ANY photos from my Note8 and I’ve had it for 3 years! Furthermore, iOS can’t connect to a Windows computer without iTunes and a bunch of shadow software that iTunes installs automatically, whilst Android doesn’t. I really don’t know what else to say here. Android doesn’t require a middleman app to transfer files between the phone and the computer. It just doesn’t. The jerk at the Genius Bar told me “That’s what iCloud is for. I can set you up a subscription for just--” No. Fuck all that. That and the crap-ass battery life that was made worse intentionally by Apple were the last straws that completely soured me towards Apple crap and kicked me in the ass to get a better phone.
