I’m not sure what it is about the powerpuff girls reboot that’s so ugly, it might be because they were allergic to sharp shapes or something because why was everything so round???
And the girls just do not look good I don’t know what it is that’s so ugly I feel there’s too much emphasis on the top of their heads
yeahhh, it definitely lost that edge that made the original art style SO good. it lost the chunky, varied line work and the snappy poses and the use of basic shapes to make something REALLY cool. there was a lot of skill and heart that went into the original ppg that I think is really lost on the newer one, it just looks awful
#asks#daftydill#and we KNOW they didnt give a shit about ppg bc if you actually cared about it#you wouldnt change everything about it in the worst way possible#(and you wouldnt just read Ace's wikipedia page to write him)#THEY LITERALLY didnt even watch Schoolhouse Rocked. are you kidding me#that means they genuinely didnt make it to season 2 if they even tried to watch the original show first#IF YOURE GOING TO BE REMAKING A SHOW. MAYBE FUCKING WATCH THE SHOW FIRST. AND ACTUALLY ENJOY IT FOR WHAT IT IS#anyway. i have Thoughts on the reboot.

I was doing a writing warm-up and made this piece. I kinda like it and might make a fic series about it if anyone is interested. Also, I call Kid 'Eustass' in this because it felt right for some reason?
Eustass Kid/ Trafalgar Law x F!Reader
warnings: Angst, small amount of blood, cheating, slut shaming maybe? Modern Au
~~~
“Does he think I’m a fucking idiot?! Does he think I can’t see the way his eyes follow girls’ asses as they walk by?” Gripping the edge of the bathroom sink, you struggle to hold back tears as you talk to your best friend on the other line.
“What am I doing wrong (....)? I’ve done everything right! I gave him all of me, and he’s out here eyeing other women!”
“That’s just the way he is (Y/N). I tried to warn you about him. You can’t change someone who doesn’t want to change.” You bite your lip as your body shakes. Emotion overwhelmed you to the point you could no longer hold back tears.
“I don’t understand. He told me he loved me and that he couldn’t imagine a life without me. He made me a matching ring to his. He promised me that his playboy days were over…”
“Well, if he’s staring at other girls, then obviously he broke his promise.”
~~~
You're feeling a lot more numb than you thought you would. At first, you thought you’d be yelling, crying, and screaming. Asking him why? But now that you're actually hearing his moans along with an unknown woman's echoing in your shared bedroom, no tears fall from your eyes.
Maybe your heart and mind were mentally and emotionally ready for this. There were many signs he was starting to stray. Staring at other women, no longer being affectionate in public, you even saw him take off his ring once. He hasn’t done it again, but that was the last straw your heart could take when you tried to ignore the signs.
You should've known it’d end like this. He’s been a fuck boy all throughout high school and college. Slithering his way into vulnerable hearts and crushing them without a care about the people he’s heart. How you’ve been friends with him for so long and knowing what he was doing was something you criticized yourself for.
While you weren’t best friends during high school and college, you both always had a class together. The two of you just ended up talking during each of them. Well, him hitting on you and you always telling him that you rather swim in hell’s flames than get with him. All throughout high school and college, he’d do this. In a way, you said no to avenge all the hearts he’s broken. But once college started, you accidentally started growing feelings for the idiot. Yet, you still said no until graduation day. He came up to you with a bouquet of roses made of metal that he made in shop class. Every rose was made individually, letting you pluck one out and hold it in your hands. Everyone in said class said he’d been working on it forever. Throwing away and remaking it more times than anyone could count. All to make sure it was perfect. It was then that you finally said yes. No one had done anything so thoughtful for you before.
But when you told your best friend the news, she wasn’t happy.
“What?!”
“Listen, I know it sounds stupid-”
“That’s because it is stupid (Y/N)! We both know his past and how he still was before you agreed to go out with him! How are you sure he isn’t gonna do the same shit to you?!”
“He’s been asking me for years and actually made me this metal bouquet of flowers. Aren’t they beautiful, though?” Showing her the flowers, you watch her sigh.
“What happens when he breaks your heart? What will you do then?” You were silent as you looked away from her. Her hands go to your shoulders, and it makes you look at her.
“I just don’t want you crying over someone like him. I’m just worried about you, okay?”
“I know. Thank you for watching out for me. I’m going to give him a chance. Maybe he’s ready to grow up? But if I get my heart broken. Then you’ll get to say, ‘I told you so’.” Laughing at the last part, you pull (.....) into a hug and enjoy how you could always rely on her to be by your side.
Your eyes caught the metal bouquet on the kitchen table. The sun hit it just right to where it shined in your eyes. Furrowing your brows, an immediate disgust came over you as you looked at them. The one thing that had you thinking he’d changed was laughing at you and calling you a fool for falling for it.
Turning away from the bedroom door, you carefully and quietly walked to the metal sculpture. You pull one of the roses out from the vase they resided in and look at it. You twirled it with your fingers before gripping it tightly. Using your other hand, you encase the metal rosebud with the palm of your hand before twisting it harshly.
The sharp metal cut into your hand as you ripped off the rose head. A small hiss escaped you, yet you continued. Putting down the first destroyed rose, you move on to the second one. Then the third, fourth, fifth, until every single rose had been ripped apart. By the time you were finished, the stems of the flowers were scattered across the kitchen table, as well as the blood-covered roses. A good representation of a broken heart if you say so.
You could still hear the moans coming from the bedroom, and the more you listened and paid attention, the more you swore you recognized the tone of voice. Tip-toeing to the door, you place your ear against the wood. Taking a few seconds, you listen carefully to try to pinpoint who it could be.
“Eustass~”
As soon as the words were heard, you felt your world shatter. That was (.....)’s voice. That was (.....) in there fucking your boyfriend. And your boyfriend was cheating on you with your best friend. The two people you cared about the most stabbing you in the back. It’s even worse knowing that (.....) was cheating on her own boyfriend, Trafalgar Law. The smartest person you’ve ever met. He was valedictorian in high school and had the highest grades in college. He's now a world known respected doctor who’s saved so many lives. Everything he’s done, and this is what happens to him? How could Eustass and (.....) pull this on you and Law?
A rage washed over you as soon as you heard her moan his name again. Grabbing your phone from your pocket, you unlock it and call Law. You thankfully had his number after a project you guys did together a month before college ended, and you just never remembered to delete it.
“Come on, Law. Pick up.” Whispering, you cross your fingers.
“(Y/N)-ya? Why are you-”
“I really need you to stay on the line, okay? I’m going to facetime you now, alright?”
“What? Why? (Y/N)-ya, I have to go back to work-”
“(.....)’s cheating on you with my boyfriend right now as we speak. Don’t believe me? Listen!” You put your phone against the door, and all you heard was silence on Law’s side of the phone. A groan of (.....)’s name leaving Eustass’s mouth finally made you snap.
“That’s it!” Busting open the door, your met with a half-naked Eustass and a very naked (.....).
“Shit (Y/N)!”
“(Y/N)! It’s not what it looks like!” Clutching your phone tightly in your hand, you finally feel your anger bubble over.
“Don’t pull that shit with me! If your gonna be a backstabbing whore at least admit it! Fucking my boyfriend?! The boyfriend you hated?! Did you just want to fuck him the whole time?! How long has this been going on?!” You watched as (.....) scrambled to get her clothes on, and Eustass pushed his dick back in his pants.
“This is the only time it’s happened, I swear!”
“This is all an accident (Y/N), okay? I promise-”
“Oh, so your dick accidentally found its way into her? I don’t believe that for a second! And don’t tell me about your bullshit promises!” You can feel the cut on your hand finally start to sting as blood starts to puddle against the floor. The cut must have been much deeper than you originally thought.
“You're bleeding! (Y/N) are you okay?!-”
“Oh, don’t act like you care (.....)! If you actually cared, you wouldn’t be fucking my boyfriend in my bed! If you actually had a fucking heart, you wouldn’t have cheated on Law either!” The mention of Law's name has a look of horror appear on (.....)'s face.
“Please don’t tell him (Y/N)! I love him, and I don’t want him to leave me!”
“I’m breaking up with you.” (.....)’s face dropped when she realized Law heard everything. Tears start pouring down her face.
“That makes two of us.” You take off the ring Eustass gave you before walking over to (.....) Plopping it into her hand, you look at her with hatred and a disgusted smile.
“Obviously, this was meant for you since he loves you so much he can’t stop saying your name.” You grab the bag you left by the bedroom door before turning around and start to collect things around the apartment that you need.
“I’ll make sure to tell the landlord that my name’s off the lease and that I’ll gather my things tomorrow morning.” Holding everything you could gather at the moment, you make your way to the front door.
“Where do you think you're going?!” You feel Eustass grab your wrist and bring you closer to him. Looking into his eyes, you see panic, fear, and anger swirling around in them.
“Leaving, obviously! I’m not gonna stay and shatter my heart more after seeing a man I loved, wanted to marry even, fucking my now ex-best friend.” The panic grew more evident as he pulled you to his chest. Both arms wrapped around you so you couldn’t leave.
“You can’t leave, alright! I know I fucked up, but please, let’s talk about this. She means nothing to me! She’s just some slut-”
“A slut you fucked knowing you were taken.” Tears started spilling from your eyes as you felt him hold you closer.
“Why? Why would you do this to me? Why’d you say you loved me when you out fucking my best friend? How dare you hold me close and act like the stench of sex and her perfume isn’t surrounding you?”
“I’m outside in the car (Y/N).” Hearing Law’s voice shocked you as you remember you never hung up on him. He was so quiet, and you heard nothing on the other side of the line. Having him even show up was surprising, but you weren’t gonna throw away this opportunity to get away from Eustass and (.....).
“Alright, be right there-”
“No, she won’t! Fuck off, Trafalgar, and take your bitch with you!” Eustass grabbed your phone and hung up before throwing your phone on the couch.
“Eustass! Are you-” You feel one of his hands push your head to his. His lips met yours, and you could feel the urgency in his kisses.
“Please don’t…leave me…” Kissing your between words only had your heart shattering more. How could he kiss you like he loves you after pulling a stunt like this?
It took almost everything inside you not to dig your fingers into his hair and kiss him back. You wanted it all to be a dream and that when you woke up, you’d be sleeping against his chest.
Putting your hand against his bare chest, you feel his bare skin against your open wound. It made him pull away from his panicked kisses when he felt your bloody hand on his chest.
“Jesus (Y/N)! What happened?!”
“Doesn’t matter.”
“Stay here, I’m grabbing bandages!” Letting you go, you see him rush to the bathroom. Taking this chance, you grab your phone and start running out the door. Anything you can carry in tow, you run down the stairs as you hear (.....) scream your name and Eustass yelling at you to stop.
But who was he to tell you what to do?
Bursting out the apartment complex’s door, you see Law’s car parked waiting for you. Using all your strength, you run as fast as you can. Grabbing the car door, You swung it open before slamming it shut. Everything you brought with you on your lap.
“Drive!” Wasting no time, Law stomps on the gas, and as you see Eustass run out of the apartment, watching you and Law drive away.
~~~
If you guys do want this to be an actual fic series, let me know cause this concept is quite interesting to me.
☆ | author's note : I KNOW THIS WAS WIRTTEN LIKE A MILLION TIMES , but in my opinion shinobu is the most interesting to look over and i think she has alot of options and opinions soo. Anw im getting bored of my current layout , so maybe remake to another character ?? The poll will be after the said hc's. I hope you enjoy this piece !! <33
. . warnings ★ : MINORS DO NOT INTERACT nsfw under the cut ; two versions : for male and female readers ; oral sex ( both reader and char receiving ) ; anal sex ; masturbation ; somnophilia ; drugging ; fingering ; not proofread.
𔓕 .. ┊ Afab reader !
When with a female reader she is probably a switch with a lean towards a dom. Sometimes she wants to watch your frame shaking from the overstimulation shes given you and sometimes she wants to a strap deep inside of her pussy.
Shinobu has a fair share of knowledge on how to pleasure a body of a female first of all because of her medical expiriance and second of all actually trying masturbation on herself in many different ways.
Shower heads , pillow humping , edging and much more and she is going to use it on your mercilessly when you have sex.
But it will be pretty hard to get.
Shinobu sees sex as something to show emotions and love for their partner so doesn't do it from just lust , in fact it's hard to turn her on in ordinary life so you'll have to beg and basically degrade yourself in front of her , so she'll finally understand that you can't deal with the ache. Which leads up to one of her kinks !
She like watching you trying to even muster a word as you're on the floor by her while she's doing anything , legs spread , arms tied behind your back and you're on the verge of tears. You're absolutely exposed and shinobu is not willing to cooperate.
BEST SCENARIO OUT OF EVERYTHING SHE MIGHT DO TBH.
Something i think she'd practice is drugging , though only if you give her permission. She finds something attractive in you waking up because of the immense pleasure that she is serving you, watching your cunt spasm around her fingers while you're sleepish face frowns snd whines from her , slowly but surely waking up.
I feel like she isn't really into anal if her partner is a woman, she might do it if you insist or really want to try if you like it or not. To her it's unsafe and unlike males you have a hole made for it.
But if you do she is really gentle and careful.
As mentioned previously you two rarely have sex, but if you do , oh boy , you'll be fucked or fucking her hours on end.
She likes eating you out. Softly massaging your clit , her tongue gliding against your folds. She holds one of your hands to give you some sort of support.
Would do again. 10/10
𔓕 .. ┊ Amab reader !
I feel like she'd be a power bottom or a dom.
Something about her being so small and yet making you wonce and tremble makes her even more turned on.
Doesn't like 69 , so ya'll give oral tp each other seperatly.
Shinobu doesn't suck you off much , because again she is small and has a gag reflex, so she likes giving you small kitten licks more than actually taking your whole dick into her mouth. Likes tasting the salty beads of precum on your cockhead.
Probably edges you before plopping herself onto your dick and fucking borh you and herself until her brain is numb and dead.
( im sorry i didn't have much ideas for this . )
Teenage Headache Dreams (2)
Series Masterlist
Pairing: High School! College! Leon Kennedy x Dancer! Fem! Reader
Summary: You’re a bored, but ambitious high school student who can’t wait to escape small town life and make it in the big city. You thought you had it all figured out, until you unwittingly befriend the resident golden boy, Leon. A series of events beginning from junior year to college until Resident Evil 2 Remake.
Warnings: 18+ Swearing, Recreational Drug Use, Eventual Smut, No (Y/N), Ambiguous/Open Ending
Content: High School AU, College AU, Pre-Resident Evil 2, Fluff, Romance, Cliche, Friends to Lovers, Hurt/Comfort, Angst, Lack of Communication
Author's Note: Cliché alert and mostly fluff in this chapter! There’s been a mini time skip, but I wanted to show that Reader x Leon became fast friends in the meantime and are relatively comfortable with each other. I made Leon a lot cheekier this round, but I feel like he uses mischief to mask his true feelings.
Chapter 2: More Than Meets the Eye
The first couple of weeks of the new term had already flown by and managing your tight schedule of school work, actual work, dance and cheer practice left you with literally no time for anything else. Sighing as you yanked open your locker to retrieve your school books, a familiar figure popped up at your side, slouching against the metallic compartments with a loud thud.
Without even turning your head in its direction, you already knew who it was. “Hey, loser,” you called out, smiling inside.
“Hey, yourself,” came his gruff reply.
As you finally faced the culprit, you and Leon laughed at each other’s greetings.
“So, since it’s a Friday, wanna hang out and watch something tonight?”
Both of you had been almost inseparable until school started, and that’s when you guiltily kept postponing your regular meetups in favor of working on your future goals.
“Uh… I don’t think I can.” You rubbed the back of your neck sheepishly. “I seriously need to get some studying time in and I have cheer practice after school.”
“What was that again?” He put a hand to his ear, listening for something non-existent and pausing for dramatic effect. “All I heard were excuses.”
“Hey-”
“Come on, relax.” Placing his hand on your shoulder, he gave it a tiny squeeze. “School’s only just started. You’re gonna burn out if you keep going like this.”
“Leon…” It came out a lot whinier than you intended.
His eyes widened as you caught a brief glimpse of something devilish in them. You knew it was too late to stop the bullshit that would come out of that filthy mouth any second now.
“Mm, say it like that again.” Ah, there it is.
Groaning internally, you smacked his hand off your shoulder playfully. “Ugh, you know there’s no way-”
You turned your head around, checking behind you before lowering your voice. “-I’ll ever get outta here, if I don’t push myself from the start.”
He straightened up a little as he considered your words. “You hate this place that much, huh?”
“You think?” It came out almost as a whisper.
“Shame,” he muttered. “Well, tell you what,” he glanced quickly to the side before looking back at you. “Since you’re so damn keen on this study session, we could do that and then grab some burgers after. Maybe even a movie. How’s that sound?” He puffed his chest and looked almost victorious, as though he knew it was an offer you couldn’t back out of.
Fuck Leon and his persistence. “Yeah, fine,” you grumbled as you shut your locker in defeat.
Once again, that smug grin flashed across his face. “Great, so uh, see you at 5?”
“Mm hm, library,” you nodded reluctantly.
“By the way, your girl gang is here,” he motioned with his head in the direction behind you. “Guess that’s my cue to leave.” Before you could respond, he had already walked ten paces away.
Nobody likes gossip. Ever since you had started hanging out with Leon, people talked and they assumed many things. How far the rumors reached, you didn’t know, but you didn’t want to ruin things between the two of you. You cursed small town gossip under your breath. This was probably one of the few genuine friendships you had, so you tried to keep things as lowkey as possible. Thankfully, Leon agreed to play along. For now.
You tightened your grip on your books as you spun around, plastering a bright smile across your face as you greeted your teammates, who were still sporting tans from their holidays and bubbly chatting with each other.
“Hey, babe,” Kayla, the cheer captain, moved in to give you a quick hug. You caught a whiff of her tropical-scented, coconut vanilla perfume. “So where did your boy run off to?” She winked, giving you a side smile. The other girls around her immediately broke out in hushed whispers.
There wasn’t anything malicious about her question. In fact, your teammates were nice enough, but they could be rather superficial and nosey. You tried to downplay it with a look of confusion in your eyes, shaking your head as you remarked, “He’s just a study partner, Kayla.”
Some giggles broke out and your ears burned. Great, they didn’t buy that a single bit. Defending yourself would just raise more suspicion, so you unhappily resigned yourself to the fact that you were probably doomed for the rest of the term.
“Yeah, whatever.” Kayla waved her hand dismissively. “Was about time anyway, and he’s quite the catch.” She licked her lips suggestively, but quickly added, “Not as good as mine though.” Of course, her obnoxious football boyfriend. You tried to hide your grimace.
Flipping her shiny, raven-colored locks, she continued, “Still, very cute. I approve.”
Your mouth ran dry. Why couldn’t they just mind their own business? You swallowed your anger as you tried to change the subject. “Um, cheer practice at 3, right?”
She snickered, seeing right through your act. “Yeah, same as always.” She turned to leave, wiggling her fingers as a form of goodbye. “Oh, and you’re leading warm-ups today. Ciao, babe.”
You could hear audible groans coming from the rest of the team as they trudged off with Kayla. They definitely weren’t looking forward to your intense warm-up session, but to you, warmer bodies meant lesser injury risk and better preparation for stunts and routines. Pursing your lips at the less-than-ideal conversation you just had, you tried to shove it to the back of your mind as you hurried off to class.
━━━━━━━━━━━
As you flung open the double doors leading to the school’s indoor gym, you were greeted by the unfamiliar sight of another group you didn’t exactly recognize next to your cheer team. It seemed like Kayla was speaking to their coach, as she nodded a bit too enthusiastically - a nervous habit she displayed when she was irritated but didn’t want to show it. Slowly, you inched closer to listen in on their conversation.
“There must have been a double booking-”
“I’ll sort this out with the admin right now,” Kayla offered.
“It’s just going to eat into practice time. Anyway, this lot won’t need much space today. Functional training.” He sucked his teeth and gestured towards the group. That’s when you spotted Leon, sitting at the side with his arms across his lap, chatting merrily with another girl on his team.
Just my luck, you sighed, folding your arms as the coach continued, “I’m sure you girls won’t mind sharing?”
You saw Kayla clenching and unclenching her fists as she hesitantly agreed to the proposal. With that, she spun around and called out shrilly, “Ladies! We’ve gotta share the space. We’re taking this half.” She drew an imaginary line with her arms as if to stake her claim, before brushing past you seething, “They always think they can sideline us, like we’re not important.”
At this point, Leon made eye contact and waved over. The girl beside him suppressed a laugh and you weren’t sure whether she was embarrassed or making fun of you. Furrowing your brows, you gave a hasty, lopsided smile before heading over to your side of the gym, making a mental note to question Leon about that exchange later.
Wasting no time for further pleasantries, you proceeded to blast your high-energy mixtape on the cassette player as loudly as possible, secretly smirking as you heard the coach swear under his breath at the intrusion.
“Ok, everyone! Let’s get those heart rates up!” You hollered, running through the exercises as they copied you dutifully, breaking out in a sweat and panting furiously.
Your eyes filtered through the crowd, checking for anything they could improve on, as you continued calling out prompts. “You can lift your legs higher than that!” Hm, that sounded rather… You ignored that prickly feeling at the back of your throat and continued, “Face up, not to the floor!”
When it came to the stretching section and the music toned down, you suddenly heard the unmistakable yell of a reprimand being given from the other end of the room. “Kennedy! You can stare at girls after training!”
Wait, what? Your head darted in the direction of the bellowing. Sure enough, you saw the coach glaring at Leon, who seemed pretty flustered as he denied the accusations with a feeble “I wasn’t!”, which was met with roars of laughter.
Really, Leon? Getting distracted by a bunch of cheerleaders? You were oblivious to what actually happened there and decided to pay no more attention to it. Instead, it was time to go through the routine and fortunately you were relatively decent at compartmentalizing.
“Alright, a few things I wanted to point out,” you began. “This part’s looking good, but it would start off even more amazing, if you frame your body like this.” Adjusting your shoulders with your arms slightly back, profile tilted a smidge upwards, you angled yourself in a semi-diagonal position, shifting your weight towards one leg as you lengthened the other for the prep stance. The other cheerleaders shuffled around, attempting to imitate what you showed.
Kayla motioned for you to demonstrate the full sequence before she took over and you obliged. “Ok, watch me.” You danced through the routine dynamically, hitting all the accents and flowing through the softer parts more sensually. Whipping your hair around as you transitioned from a body wave into a hip roll, you swung the pom poms above your head at the same time and trailed them across your body.
It all seemed to happen in a haze, but after coming out of the next spin, you somehow ended up holding a gaze with those same piercing blue eyes that had caused you so much trouble today. They widened and flickered, but didn’t break away for what felt like an eternity, until-
“Leon Scott Kennedy! I swear to god!”
Uh oh.
“You either train, or you can leave!”
Leon’s cheeks flushed bright red as he bit his lip, stammering, “Sorry coach, won’t happen again.”
You’d never seen Leon get this unnerved, which concerned you. He emanated a natural sense of confidence and was usually laid-back to the point where nothing could ruffle him. In any case, you were also sure as hell everyone heard and saw that commotion, especially since a number of students were now looking between him and you, mumbling to each other.
Nothing could beat the relief you felt when Kayla took over your position, as you stepped away from the center to join the rest of your team. Just when you thought you were in the clear, one of your teammates scooted over to you, whispering seductively in your ear, “Ooh he definitely enjoyed the show you put on.”
━━━━━━━━━━━
The minute practice ended, you bolted straight for the restroom, just so you didn’t have to deal with anyone else for the time being. Hiding in one of the cubicles for a good 10 minutes until you could hear the last footsteps trickle out of the hallway, you unlocked the door and stumbled over to the wash basin, splashing cold water on your face. Checking yourself one last time in the mirror to make sure you looked presentable, you inhaled a deep breath before exiting and making your way towards the library.
From afar, you could see Leon waiting patiently outside of it, as though he fully trusted that you would still show up after that little stunt he pulled earlier. Walking gingerly towards him, you cleared your throat.
“Oh, hey. So… what’re we studying today?” He asked casually, while browsing through his pile of books, as if nothing had happened.
“Math. Definitely Math,” you concluded, also pretending to ignore the white elephant in the room. “If that’s ok with you?”
“Sure, I suck at it. So why not?”
The study session went by rather sluggishly and uneventfully, with both of you going through equations after equations and figuring out the logic together. It was a wonder you could concentrate at all with the events of the day playing back in your mind like a broken record.
You were thankful for Leon’s earlier suggestion of burgers when it was time to pack up to leave. He gave you a knowing smile when your stomach growled and you placed a hand over your belly instinctively, as you cast back a self-conscious glance. It seemed like he had thought of everything again, where you often had trouble remembering your own basic needs when you were lost in your schoolwork.
Both of you plopped down on the cushy, retro red seats opposite each other in a booth at the only diner in town, getting in your orders as quickly as possible. You suspected that he was just as famished as you, but trying his best not to show it. During the waiting time, the two of you caught up with and exchanged news on all the goings-on of the past weeks.
When your orders finally arrived, you snatched up your burger, devouring large chunks of it, while Leon looked on amused as he bit into his.
“Wuhhff?” You managed to cough out with your mouth stuffed with food.
Almost instantly, he mimicked your reaction, resulting in a fry being thrown in his direction, as he ducked to avoid it while snickering.
“Here, you got some sauce on your chin.” He reached out with a paper napkin, gently wiping it away, as his bright blue eyes bore into yours. That prickly sensation you felt earlier in the school gym started to bloom again, as you squeezed your eyes shut and cleared your throat. “Is it gone now?”
“Uh… y-yeah.”
Fluttering your eyes open, you caught sight of him looking down at his plate, suddenly completely engrossed with his meal, as he chucked the used napkin to the side. You were quite certain you spotted a pink tinge dusting his cheeks while he slowly chewed his food.
The table grew silent as you muttered a quick, “Thanks.”
Giving it a few minutes before you attempted any form of conversation, you casually decided to bring up the topic you had both been avoiding till now.
“So…” you breathed, testing the waters.
“So…?” Leon questioned, raising an eyebrow, still munching the last bits of his burger.
“At the gym. What was that all about?” You picked at your fries nervously, as you felt a rush of adrenaline coursing through your body in anticipation of an answer.
“What do you mean?”
Ugh. He’s deflecting again. But you weren’t about to let this go so easily. “Don’t play dumb, Kennedy.”
Leon paused, and you could see the wheels turning in his head as he considered his words carefully. It only took a moment for his face to light up as if he hit the jackpot. “I got distracted, that’s all.” His signature smirk broke out across his lips, before adding, “By you.”
The boldness of his answer caught you by surprise, as you choked on your food. Patting your chest, you gulped down some water before sputtering, “Excuse me?”
All at once, he was back to his usual, composed self, as he remarked, “You dance really well. Can’t I admire that?”
“Um… y-yeah, I guess.” You weren’t sure how to respond. Coming from a background where dance teachers often gave you tough love and criticisms in an effort to spur you on, you never really learnt how to accept compliments.
“A ‘thanks’ would be nice.”
Clenching your jaw, you wished you could wipe that stupid smirk off his face. Trying to approach it from a different angle, you blurted out, “But, people talk.”
Leaning back against his seat and placing his hands behind his head, Leon seemed unfazed. “So let them talk.” Noticing your frown, he continued, “What’s wrong if they think we’re dating? Am I really that bad to be with?” He mentioned it as if it was the most normal thing to say in conversation between two friends, and the worst thing was that you didn’t know how to counter that.
“No, you’re gre-,” you quickly corrected yourself. “I mean, you’re fine.” Sighing, you explained, “I just don’t want things to be awkward between us.”
His gaze softened as he reassured you, “It won’t, trust me.”
Since he was that calm about it, you decided not to pursue it any further. Maybe you were thinking too much into things. However, another question popped up in your mind. “Who was the girl you were speaking with back there?”
He propped himself up again, a little taken aback by the quick change of topic. “Oh, you mean Val? Yeah, we sometimes participate in relays together. She can be a real handful though.”
“She seemed to find me amusing,” you pointed out.
“Really? I didn’t notice,” he shrugged and scoffed down the remainder of his fries. You searched his eyes to detect if he was messing with you, but couldn’t find anything of the sort. “I told her about you.”
Well, that explains it. Crossing your arms, you prepared to release an earful until you were interrupted by the grinning idiot in front of you. “Do I even want to know-”
“I said…” He drifted off, taking his time to sip his soda, leaving you hanging on purpose. You subconsciously leaned in closer as your patience started to wear thin. He lowered his voice, presumably to utter something serious. “You’re the coolest kid I met over summer.”
“You’re such a dork!” You exclaimed, as you punched his arm lightly from across where you sat.
“Ouch! And here I am baring my soul to you.” He rubbed his arm melodramatically and feigned a hurt expression on his face, which only served to encourage you to taunt and play fight with him further.
Sometimes he could be so infuriating. But funnily enough, that was part of what drew you to him in the first place.
━━━━━━━━━━
It turned out that Leon had rented some VHS tapes from Blockbuster, so you had the choice of either heading to the local cinema for a late night screening or watching a movie from the comfort of his home. Naturally, you picked the latter. Going to the cinema together would seem too “date night”-like and you had endured more than enough gossip that day to last a lifetime.
You greeted his parents as they kindly let you and Leon hog the living room TV. Before heading upstairs to their bedroom, they gave a half-hearted reminder not to stay up too late, that they knew would go unheeded. They were friendly and way more relaxed than your parents, so much so you preferred hanging out at Leon’s place over yours.
After making some hot chocolate, you settled onto the couch as Leon popped the tape into the video player. Relaxing into the cozy atmosphere, you hugged the warm blanket he offered you and savored the steaming drink between your hands.
Unfortunately, the day’s events probably caught up to you, as your eyelids grew heavier as time went by and you were fighting a losing battle to keep them open. At some point, you must have drifted off to sleep and then accidentally used Leon as a makeshift pillow. He swallowed thickly, as you curled up beside him, resting your head against his shoulder and nuzzling his neck, completely unaware. His heart was pounding so hard in his chest that he was afraid he would wake you. Something made him instinctively wrap his arm around you, even though his mind was screaming to do the exact opposite. This is just gonna make things worse, he sighed, but he didn’t feel the urge to remove it and maybe he could get away without you knowing. So he let you sleep soundly until the credits ran.
“Hey.” He called out softly, as you stirred. “The movie’s over now.”
Blinking groggily, your vision was still blurry as you tried to make out where you were. You weren’t sure if you felt an arm around you or just the back of the couch, as you rubbed your eyes.
“You fell asleep,” he explained, as he let you go and tried to shift away from you as stealthily as possible, hoping you wouldn’t recall the previous position you were in.
“Hm?” You stretched your arms out, yawning lazily as you scratched your head. “Uh, what time is it?”
“Just past midnight.”
You jerked upwards, startled. “Shit, so late?” Your face swung in his direction. “You didn’t wake me?”
He bit his bottom lip, eyeing you apologetically. “You looked like you needed the rest. I didn’t want to disturb you.”
You buried your face into the bunched up blanket on top of your knees, groaning, “Ugh, my parents are going to kill me.”
That drew a faint laugh from him. “Don’t worry, I took care of it.”
You turned towards him with a puzzled look.
“I called them before-” he stopped himself abruptly, as you noticed him tense up.
“Before what?” You questioned out of confusion.
“Nothing.” He shifted uncomfortably in his seat and refused to meet your gaze.
You narrowed your eyes at him, trying to figure out if something out of the ordinary had happened. It started off as a vague recollection of falling asleep, maybe leaning against something and the smell of fresh citrus and musk… which smells exactly like- Oh god, no. Your stomach dropped. The realization that you had snuggled with Leon in your sleep dawned on you and your head was whirling.
At this point, Leon knew you had worked out what happened, so he did the only thing he could do in such a situation. “Man, you were heavy.”
That snapped you out of it and earned him a slap to his chest. “It was a joke, jeez!” He raised both hands up in defense and quickly moved to a different topic, “Anyway, as I was saying, your parents told me to walk you home when you woke up.”
“Oh… thanks,” you shook your head and sighed. “Sorry to put you through the trouble.”
He waved it off. “It’s really no big deal. I’m just glad I finally got to hang out with you again.”
“Yeah, me too,” you admitted. “This was nice.”
As you got up from the couch to prepare to leave, it seemed like Leon had another idea. Grabbing your wrist, he coaxed, “And?”
You knew what he meant and nodded in agreement. “And… I promise I’ll make time for this in the future.” A random thought flashed across your mind as you grinned cheekily. You had to get him back after all his teasing. “How about…”
“I’m listening,” he mentioned with a hint of suspicion in his voice.
“...we meet for more study sessions?”
It was his turn to groan, as you giggled uncontrollably. “That’s such a cop-out!” He responded accusingly.
Placing your hands on his shoulders and bending down to meet him at eye level, you pleaded, “Come on, we could do something fun after too?”
Rolling his eyes, he rebutted, “You’re kinda driving a hard bargain here.”
You weren’t ashamed to play dirty though, so you turned on the best doe eyes you could muster, and insisted, “Please?” You knew he was a lost cause now.
“Damn it, that’s not fair,” he grumbled, though he eventually gave in. “Ok fine, but only if fun’s a guarantee.”
“Deal.” With that, you took his hand in yours, giving it a firm handshake.
Do you have any particular thoughts on Netflix Avatar Season 1? I haven't watched it myself but I would be curious to hear what you have to say.
I do indeed! I didn't watch it right away, but I have watched it indeed. I think there are merits to certain changes they did, I can see the sense in many of them, that doesn't mean EVERYTHING they changed was good, but it does feel like they were engaging with the original content in a far more creative way than a lot of people are willing to acknowledge or try themselves. No, it isn't a perfect remake of ATLA, but being the critic that I have been of the original show, nobody could ever convince me that the original was perfect, just as this new show isn't perfect.
I want to make a big post on the subject one day and try to get to everything it brought up... once I have more time on my hands, I'll try to do that. But, to give you a bit to chew on... I'll try to do one good vs. one bad on my part, of whatever I can remember right now.
GOOD: I actually do not mind the multiple prologues in the first episode, even though I don't think the changes were handled perfectly. I do believe that showing the genocide is not nearly as bad a choice as a lot of people pretend it is (the way it was portrayed is questionable mostly from a tactical point of view but that's just me being a freak about that... studying basic warfare really fucks up your suspension of disbelief when it comes to war scenes). Mainly, I think it IS important to show it due to the amount of people who are still convinced that Aang didn't suffer nearly as much as most other popular characters did -- that soooo many people have made these claims without a care in the world throughout the twenty years since ATLA first aired proves that the genocide was not treated with the severity it should have been by the OG show. I'm not even sorry to say it. It doesn't feel like a trivialization of violence, it feels like actually setting straight the degree of violence a genocide entails. People asking for a less intense version of genocide basically appear to be asking for the actual gravity of such events to be sanitized so they can chew on them more easily... and that's exactly what leads to it being trivialized, minimized and not taken seriously, if you ask me.
BAD: I don't particularly like the way Fire Lords are so... casual with commoners. Both Ozai and Sozin stood on the same level as a rebel/spy right before setting them on fire, no doubt it's meant to be some sort of flex, but... men of their ideologies and pride would not want to be up close and personal with anyone they consider that far beneath them. Odd choice there, imo.
MOSTLY GOOD: Aang does feel way more serious and has much more dramatic gravitas in everything he does. And this is not a bad choice, in essence. I don't particularly love that they tried to lessen it with occasional "Aang's a silly kid!" verbal reminders that don't actually have any proper visual evidence, because most the silly things he's up for are things the two older kids (Sokka and Katara) are perfectly fine with doing too, hence, he doesn't feel childish at all and it comes off out of place for him to talk about being more childish than he actually is. So... they really didn't need dialogue to try to emphasize his childhood if they weren't going to write him being a goofball. It's fine if he isn't one. He always could be a more serious character, it's only a problem when there's no further substance to him than just brooding (which is what I remember from the Shyamalan movie...).
WEIRD: Aang and Katara both had weird scenes of standing around doing nothing but smiling at their hometowns in episode 1. Maybe it was done as a parallel between them, but it felt a bit... overly theatric? If that makes sense? Like... I know we need to see their daily lives and the context in which they've lived... but it doesn't feel entirely logical for that to happen with them just standing in place and smiling fondly at their world. Most people do not do that in their daily lives...?
GOOD: ... Contrary to what a lot of the fandom seems to think, I actually like the suuuuuper slowburn Kataang here because any potential romantic payoff those two might get isn't nearly as in-your-face as it was in canon. The way their friendship is growing feels far more organic. And some of my favorite character moments in the show were actually between them. Which is not something I'd EVER say about the original show. There's a different sense of maturity for the characters here, and I like that.
BAD: I... do not like Sokka's changes. No, it's not about the sexism. It makes sense to me that this aspect of his character would be changed, updated in a sense: you can even still read him as sexist in some regards! It just isn't as simplistic and straightforward as it was before. But that's... not what bugs me the most. The show genuinely surprised me by taking him far more seriously as a character than I anticipated they would, but they absolutely picked weird choices with him in stuff like his family issues (... the Hakoda changes are just straight-up cringe for me, there's no justification for making him some sort of bitchy soccer mom who congratulates his son but then shits on him behind his back??), his insecurities as a warrior and the frequent remarks about how maybe that's not his path in life even though he does just fine at it, and... his romantic relationships. It's wild, because I actually think they did Sukka a thousand times better than it is in canon, and yet in doing so, they absolutely deadlocked themselves into a whole other problem: Sokka bonding that much with Suki and then hitting on a random Fire Nation soldier like two episodes later?? Then having the romance of his lifetime with Yue by the end of the season?? Ngl, it feels like we're watching one of those sitcoms where characters switch love interests in the blink of an eye. Changing this element of his character this way, when Suki's romance in particular was given new qualities and way more substance... may not have been a great call since it makes him come off insanely shallow, ready to get with any girl he comes across, and frankly, he didn't feel like that in the original show to me. He's also not really funny when he's supposed to be? Part of what made Sokka funny originally was his role as a voice of reason while everyone else ignored him. They occasionally tried to mimic that here... but in ways that didn't really work? Also, the Ron-Weasley-In-HP-Movies brand of comedy of "watch this guy scream, it's soooo funny" is... so trite at this point. Please, don't. Personally, this really feels like a whole other character who isn't Sokka. And some people might think that's great... I'm not one of them. Maybe I'm just experiencing the crisis a lot of people are over Katara with Sokka? But where changes with her do seem to go for things I actually wasn't fond of in her character, I don't really feel like they did better with Sokka in the least.
GOOD: ... "Katara learned waterbending too fast", they say: she did in canon too. A month of training under Pakku is not nearly enough time to justify her being deemed a master in canon. Complaining about how she didn't get that training at all here and still got deemed a master gets a "meh" out of me because I frankly do not see it being remotely as different from what canon did as people want to think it is. Katara was fighting Pakku with way too much power in the OG show for a kid who never got formal training to begin with, and somehow nobody minds that. I don't think someone who was on that level of power in the OG show was nearly as inferior to a seasoned master as a bunch of people want to believe. So... outrage about how they sped up her learning process when we in fact see a LOT more internal growth for Katara, and a lot more depth to her bending source here, makes no sense to me.
Along with that: bending has always been connected with a bender's internal energy, which is related to their peace of mind and internal balance. This show did not invent that. Firebenders are the ones who are most explicitly shown to be connected to their feelings that way, sure, but if you needed ATLA or LOK to non-stop feature characters talking about how a person's chakras had to be cleansed and their hearts clear and their every spiritual thread cleaned up in order to reach their best possible shapes as benders? You probably have bigger problems in analyzing this show than just whining over whatever the liveaction did. A straightforward connection for Katara with her emotions and bending isn't a negative choice in the slightest to me, more so with a character who has constantly been characterized as deeply connected to her emotions: it makes sense that her bending works and evolves the way it does in the liveaction to me. Sorry not sorry.
BAD: Zhao. Uh... I've seen people say they like him here? I felt like I was watching a con artist. It's not the actor's fault, clearly he was given this concept to work with and he did the best he could with it, but the idea of removing Zhao from all prior connection to the Royal Family, making him a total unknown who came out of nowhere and rises to prominence through conniving and scheming feels like they decided to merge him with Long Feng, maybe? And it might even backfire if they DO have Long Feng next season (... they should???) and he has a very similar profile to what they did with Zhao. I didn't enjoy his characterization at all, he was just... weird. So, not a change I was big on.
GOOD: Iroh. My god. I hate the fact that I'm saying this. But I will say it was insanely cathartic to watch that EK soldier beating him up. And that's not all: Iroh actually seems to be struggling actively with right and wrong here, showing hesitation over the war, and most importantly... HAVING A PERSONAL DYNAMIC WITH AANG??!!! I never imagined I would be that happy to see that, but I was. The few moments those two had together were damn solid, some of the best in the show (and the best for Iroh, sorry not sorry, I have never ever been an Iroh-Zuko obsessive fan and I genuinely find myself more intrigued by Iroh's potential bonding with other people, never thought about it with Aang but this show 100% blindsided me with it in a good way). It seriously made me mad that the OG basically never gave them that chance besides... that one scene in the catacombs that was very much just Iroh being a fortune cookie? Aang actually being an element that basically waters the seeds of doubt in Iroh's head is a GREAT change. I said it and I'll stand by it.
BAD: Hahn and not because of the usual reasons: their characterization rework of Hahn was fine. More than fine. The actor they cast was also very pretty! All of which makes it EXTREMELY questionable that Yue somehow has this perfectly decent guy and... uh... chooses the reworked Sokka instead? Like, I know that's how the OG story went, but when you turn Hahn from an opportunistic dick to a perfectly admirable warrior and individual, and feature Yue saying he's great but he's "not the boy of her dreams" (you... dreamt about him ONE TIME?? He's never been in the Spirit World besides that, so wuuuut...??), it makes her choice in romantic interests feel extremely questionable and weird. I'm all for Yue being given more to work with, but this seriously feels like she's... a little crazy. Hahn comes off waaaaaaay too decent for her not to be interested in him... ofc, as long as she's someone attracted to men, which, considering she picked ANOTHER GUY, it's to be assumed that she is?? Ergo nothing makes sense to me. Come to think of it, a lesbian Yue rejecting Hahn is probably the only way her rejection of Hahn would make sense... and it would also not cast such a questionable light on reworked Sokka if he and Yue weren't romantic at all, right after he had that big connection with Suki back when the show began?? So, heh, maybe lesbian Yue is the only thing that would've made sense if Hahn gets reworked for the better like this, sorry not sorry....
GOOD: The full-blown, outright display of Ozai's abuse on Azula rather than subtleties and insinuations. Again, much like in Aang's case with the genocide: PEOPLE DENY AZULA WAS A VICTIM OF ABUSE ALL THE TIME. People pretend Ozai actually loved her on some weird level or that she FELT loved, ergo she was fine and Zuko's the one who was abused. This is not new. We've been dealing with people barking that kind of nonsense since almost twenty years ago. And the backlash from that exact crowd when this show made it evident proves that they refuse to accept Azula as a victim of abuse to this day. Ergo, sorry not sorry: I'm glad they handled it as they did here because it makes it undeniable that Ozai is pushing Azula to extremes and she's pressured to deliver and become the weapon he wants her to be.
BAD: ... the Mother of Faces. That may have been the most egregious offensive and bullshit moments in the entire show. I was so mad when she was brought up at all. It was awful. I hated it. It really must be my most hated moment in the whole thing. UGH.
GOOD: Katara apologized to Sokka once. You know. One time. That, I think, marks the single time in any official Avatar content where she has done that. Call me a salty asshole, but I'm genuinely impressed that they did that, so they get a point for it.
BAD: Bumi. I know some people think the rework for Bumi is great... I could not disagree more. His treatment of Aang is really unacceptable, his behavior is very irresponsible but this time in a vindictive way... I was even reasoning with the fact that he knows Aang is the Avatar, which ALSO happens in the OG, without having known it in the past! The difference? It feels too arbitrary and random that he'd know that here, whereas in the OG show, he IS random and arbitrary, yet somewhere amid so many nonsensical ramblings, he shows insight and intelligence that makes you think there's more to him than meets the eye. I may need to rewatch episode 5 of the OG show in order to confirm this, but I also think that most of the implications there regarding his challenges is that they were actually harmless even if it doesn't look that way all along. Here? They're not harmless at all, he's basically vindictively trying to get Aang to either die for his "sins" or get himself killed through him and neither thing sits well with me at all with this character.
GOOD: Gyatso, expanding on his character and making him a much more straightforward equivalent to Iroh for Aang actually is really helpful, it makes him less of a "stock character" victim to the Fire Nation, it gave him more depth and it makes Aang's bond with him feel much more real. I am very sorry to all OG apologists, but I continue to believe Aang's cheerful behavior was written primarily to appeal to the children demographic that Nickelodeon was aiming for as their audience, which meant he could not be particularly human and truly grieve for everything he had lost. This show doesn't hide that pain at all, and it's particularly good that it does that by showing what a constant presence Gyatso was in Aang's life and by letting them have a manner of final farewell in that episode (... even if I didn't particularly like the episode, but still, it wasn't a bad idea to do that).
BAD: ... call me a consistency freak if you will, but I did not spend all these years obsessively trying to make sense out of the wobbly worldbuilding of the Avatarverse to be told that the entrance to the Cave of Two Lovers is within Omashu and that it leads into the arena within Bumi's Palace. Sorry. I can't accept that. I can't. I legit laughed throughout that whole situation because that's not where the cave of two lovers was, the badgermoles would be causing earthquakes non-stop through the city, and the sewers system would not even work because they'd constantly get fucked up by the creatures (as we know, there's a scene in Book 2 of the kids climbing out of the sewers, so either they won't do the pentapox or they'll forget about the badgermoles conveniently by then...). So. No. Sorry but no. Also, why did they kill Oma??? I know they turned both lovers into women, but... precisely because they did that, why exactly was there any need to change which one died?? Either one you kill is a woman now anyway so... what's the difference? WHY the difference?? Odd.
GOOD: ... Zuko keeps a notebook on his research and investigations into the Avatar. There were many changes to his character but that's the one that stood out the most to me. He actually seems a little bit more methodical, if not smarter, but you know? Kinda smarter anyway for at LEAST thinking that keeping a book with the results of his investigations could help?? Feels like he's actually trying rather than just whining about how rude the world is and how hard he has it. Which, in the end, might ALSO come down to him actually having some hope that Ozai didn't hate him irremediably... which, too, is a good change. I've talked about it before, other people have too: a firstborn firebending male prince has no business being discarded because of incompetence unless he's just THAT pathetic, and even in canon, Zuko wasn't as bad as to justify pushing him out and treating him as shittily as Ozai did without an actual, THOROUGH, exploration of Ozai's motives. You can elaborate, but the show never really did it, and if anything, it offered a bunch of conflictive information about why Zuko thought his father liked him. Here, it makes more sense that he thinks Ozai isn't as much of a bitch as he really is: the Agni Kai is a lot more interesting because they merged both Zuko vs. Zhao and Zuko vs. Ozai into one. The fact that Ozai actually burns Zuko and defeats him BECAUSE he was punishing him for not taking advantage of an enemy's weakness? It's a million times more telling about Zuko's character than what we saw in canon, where he was down to fight an old man out of hybris and then shat himself as soon as his father stepped up instead. So... I don't like this Zuko, which tells you they're doing him right anyway x'DDDD but I find there are a few elements about him that make him at LEAST a little more respectable than he was in the OG show. Among them? He's not constantly ranting about honor but actually lashing out at dishonorable choices out of principle, which makes it sound like he has a WAY better grasp on that concept than he does in canon :'D sue me. This is a Zuko rework too, and fortunately, not ONLY geared towards sanitizing him (even though there IS a fair amount of sanitizing too... which annoys me, but what else could we expect in the era of political correction).
BAD: ... Why the fuck did they decide the way to fix Iroh harassing June was to make her horny for him? Please? Of all things??? All they had to do was just... not make any romantic/sexual implications there. At all. Was that so hard to achieve? This is probably the second worst thing for me in the entire show, ngl. I do not understand the need for it at all. Most of all when they CLEARLY changed it due to knowing Iroh absolutely was a bastard in the OG with his behavior towards her. Isn't it easier to just NOT put any implications of attraction in there? I mean, I should be happy June didn't fully harass Iroh but the way they presented it, it felt like he wasn't even comfortable with it either! This... is not the way you take revenge for a character sexually harassing another one. Bad, bad take, I don't know what made them do this but they absolutely did not "fix" this, they overcorrected it and made it gross as fuck to me anyhow, most of all with the context of knowing that Iroh was the one being inappropriate as fuck back in the OG.
ALRIGHT. I know there's bound to be more, and I probably could think of more soon but I think I'm giving you this for now or else I'll end up making my major post here x'D
All in all, I don't think this show is unwatchable, I absolutely understand people who think it was fun, I also understand people who couldn't get used to the changes and outright dropped it. What I can't understand/accept is either pretending this show is the greatest thing ever (much like I don't think the OG ATLA is...), or pretending that it's the worst one either. This show engaged with a lot of elements in different ways than the original did: not all of it was a miss, not all of it was a hit. And I feel like it's a matter of fundamental, human decency and respect not to go completely berserk taking a ten-ton dump on this show, which to this date is the biggest production in Hollywood with a primarily Asian cast and crew of all time, from what I know, by pretending it has destroyed this franchise completely and that any support for it must come from brainwashed idiots or "not true fans". The gate-keepy attitude comes as absolutely no surprise in this fandom, ofc, but it's still disgusting to see. You CAN be critical of this show with dignity. You CAN do it while respecting other people who enjoyed it completely. It's not too much to ask. I may have learned that lesson the hard way with the ATLA comics, but even then, it wasn't my M.O. to jump into every single comics-positive post to tell people why they sucked and how dumb they were for enjoying them.
That's what I've got for the time being :'D hope it's enough for now.
#zuko-always-lies#natla#it's not perfect#neither is the OG#oh I didn't mention it in the final paragraphs but#I find it particularly hilarious when people rage at the new one#for things the OG did too#like I'm sorry here but you can't come to me and praise the OG for the exact stuff you hated the remake for#at least be consistent??#anyway anyway there we are for now
Friday The 13th (2009) Clay Miller X Reader
A/N: i love horror movies sm so you can understand my surprise when i was watching the friday the 13th remake and jared padalecki showed up on screen😂 i wanted to do a rewrite of this movie after the first time i watched it. of course when i went back to finish it, they had taken the movie off of netflix so i had to rent it😂😭 by anyway! i hope you all enjoy! :) (female reader)
Warnings: this is a rewrite of a rated r horror movie so decent amount of gore and swearing
Summary: You are Clay Miller’s girlfriend. He’s taken you to the middle of bumfuck nowhere, looking for his sister, Whitney. She’s been missing for a month and a half after she went on a camping trip with some friends. You and Clay are determined to find her, but there is a hockey masked killer who is waiting in the woods for you.
Words: 8631
(not my gif)
You hopped off the back of Clay's motorcycle, following him into the dingy gas station. He walked up to talk to the clerk while you glanced around the store. You didn't find anything you wanted, so you walked over to stand next to Clay.
"She's gone missing, about a month and a half ago," he said as he pulled the missing posters out of his backpack, "would you mind if I maybe just put a flyer in the window or something?"
"Oh, I heard about that. That's sad. If it was up to me, you could wallpaper the whole place with them," as the clerk spoke, the man behind Clay tapped him on the arm, and Clay waved him off before turning back to the clerk, "but the owner makes the rules. And he's a real-" the man made a honking noise as he raised his eyebrows high on his forehead, implying that the owner was an asshole.
You and Clay both gave him a confused look, "um, well, is he here? Maybe I could talk to him. Maybe if he understood the situation-" the man behind Clay tapped him on the arm again, and you both turned to look at him.
"Um, you gonna buy something? I mean, you've been up here for quite a while yapping, so..." you glared daggers at him; you could not believe the audacity of this guy.
"Um, sure. Yeah," Clay said as he grabbed your hand and pulled you to the side before you could tell the guy off.
"Thanks. We'll have two waters and some gas," the guy said to the clerk once the two of you were out of the way.
"Guess I'm an asshole" Clay muttered loud enough for the guy to hear, while you continued to glare.
"You okay bro? Is everything good?" the guy asked with smug smile.
"Yeah, everything's fine. Thanks. But I'm not your bro" Clay replied.
"So you don't want be friends? You don't wanna hang out?" the guy teased, chuckling to himself.
"You better shut your mouth before I shut it for you," you said angrily.
Clay squeezed your hand, and you glanced up at him. He gave you a look you knew all too well, one that told you to stop while you were ahead. You only rolled your eyes at him before going back to glaring at the guy.
"Let it go, Trent," the girl next to Trent placed a hand on his arm, trying to diffuse the situation.
"It's not me. This guys being a dick," you and Clay both scoffed at him.
"Yeah, it's me. Obviously, I'm the one being a dick" Clay said sarcastically, "sir, thank you very much anyways" Clay said politely to the clerk.
"Yep" the clerk replied with a tight lipped smile.
"I'm sorry," the girl said to Clay as you walked past.
"Thank you" Clay replied quietly before he gently tugged you out of the gas station.
You let go of Clay's hand to grab the helmet sitting on the back of his motorcycle, "god, that clerk was such a condescending jerk! How much you wanna bet he was the owner? And that fucking dickhead too! What is it with the people around here?" you ranted, annoyed.
You looked up when Clay didn't respond. You saw him taping a flyer to the back of a black SUV you hadn't noticed before. There weren't any other vehicles, so it must have belonged to the dickhead guy. You chuckled.
"What?" you only shook your head at him with a smile before putting your helmet on.
Clay swung his leg over the seat of his motorcycle, and you got on behind him, wrapping your arms tightly around his middle. You watched Trent and the rest of his buddies get back into their car. One of the guys got into the trunk, reaching up and pulling it shut. You watched them drive away, Whitney's missing poster stuck to the trunk.
Clay kicked the ignition and you felt the engine rumble to life beneath you before he pulled out of the parking lot. You were only on the road for a few minutes when a cop car flashed it's lights behind you. You felt Clay's chest rise and fall with a heavy sigh as he pulled off to the side of the road. You leaned back slightly and quickly ripped off your helmet.
"Do you know why we're getting pulled over?" you questioned him, "is it cause you're not wearing a helmet? I've told you a million times-"
He cut you off, "it's not that. Just let me do the talking, alright?"
You heard a car door open and close behind you, "welcome back, Clay," the police officer called out as he started walking over.
"You mean that, Officer Bracke?" Clay replied sarcastically.
"And I see you brought a friend this time," the officer said as he approached. He sighed as he pulled off his large aviators, and you knew he was going to try to sympathize, "son, I know you think we're not on your side, that we're just a bunch of dumb country hicks out here."
'That's putting it lightly,' you thought.
"I put two, ten year veterans on that case. We did three dozen interviews and ran a county wide search for your sister. You know how many thousands of people disappear every year, even in this state alone? There's no evidence that anything happened to Whitney or any of those other kids at Crystal Lake," the cop explained, and you rolled your eyes, not caring if he saw.
"There's no car, no witnesses. Nothing. One of those kids was her boyfriend, right?"
"Right," Clay replied with a nod.
"Well, they probably just took off together," it was taking all your self control to not start yelling.
Clay scoffed, "our mother just died of cancer. Did I tell you that?"
"No, sir."
"Well, she did. She was sick for a long time and Whitney took care of her every single day. And then my sister didn't show up for the funeral. See, you just don't know my sister. That's not possible," Clay explained.
"Well, she's not here, son. I would suggest taking your friend here, and try looking someplace else. That's what the other families are doing," the cop said as he placed his aviators back on his face, having used up all the sympathy he had for that day.
The cop turned and started walking back towards his cruiser, and you waited until you heard the car door shut before speaking, "what the actual fuck. The people around here continue to amaze me," you said as the cop drove past.
You looked up at Clay when he didn't say anything, or make a move to start his bike. You could see his jaw was clenched. He stared at the cop car as it drove down the the road, slowly becoming a small dot on the horizon.
"Are you okay?" you asked as you hugged him tight, leaning onto his shoulder.
"I'm fine."
You sighed, knowing that he was far from fine, "I'm sorry, honey. She's here, and we're gonna find her," you said before leaning up and giving him a kiss on the cheek.
"Thank you," he said softly.
He kicked the ignition on and waited for you to put your helmet back on before pulling onto the road. The cop car had already faded away in the distance. You hoped you wouldn't be seeing him again.
The sun was still high in the sky even though it felt like you had been out all day. It wasn't sweltering hot, but with no cloud cover the sun was beating down on you. The only breeze you were getting was when Clay was speeding down the road.
You were surrounded by cornfields and farmland on either side. There weren't many houses around, and there were many miles in between each one. It took many minutes of driving before you made it to the next house. Clay pulled up and parked at the end of the dirt path that led to the front door. You looked around at the junk scattered in the front yard as the two of you got off Clay's bike. You got a sense of unease as goosebumps spread across your skin. You noticed Clay walking up the path towards the house, and you hurried to catch up with him. You gripped his arm once you were walking next to him. He chuckled as he glanced down at you.
"What? You scared?" he teased you.
"Uh, of course I am! What kind of a question is that?..." your voice trailed off as you continued to scan your surroundings.
"Hello?" Clay called out as you approached the door.
The front door was open, but the screen door was shut and locked. You had full view into the house through the glass. You could see into a cluttered kitchen. There was a large wreath hanging on the side of the fridge.
"Hello?" Clay called out again before knocking on the door a few times.
After a few seconds of silence, you spoke up, "looks like no ones home. Let's get the hell out of here," you let go of his arm to wrap your arms around yourself.
"Hold on, I'm gonna leave a flyer."
"Good idea, but hurry up, please."
Clay knelt down to open his backpack and get a flyer out. As he did this, an all black dog jumped up on the screen door, barking loudly. You both jumped back, you letting out a loud, "shit!" as you reached for Clay.
"Christ!" he exclaimed as the two of you watched the medium sized dog jump at the door while continuing to bark.
The dog growled as an older lady with graying hair came to the door. She grabbed the dogs collar and opened the door, an angry scowl on her face. You gripped Clays jacket tightly as you stood somewhat behind him.
"I just wanted to ask you a question" the dog barked again, startling both you and Clay.
"Hush!" the woman yelled at the dog.
"I wanted to ask you, um, if maybe you've seen somebody. My sister" Clay said shakily as he held up the flyer, "she came camping up around here with some friends and she's gone missing," the woman looked down at the flyer before looking back up at Clay.
"She ain't missing. She's dead," she said, matter of factly.
"What?"
"People go missing around here, they're gone for good. Outsiders come, they don't know where to walk. They bring trouble. We just wanna be left alone! And so does he," the lady explained.
"So does who?" Clay asked.
She didn't answer, she just reached out and pulled door closed.
"Ma'am, please. So does who?" she ignored Clay's plea, instead she turned and walked back into her house, pulling the dog along with her.
You looked up at Clay, who looked down at you with a terrified and confused expression, "what the hell do you think she was talking about?" he muttered as the two of you turned and began walking back toward his motorcycle.
"I don't know. Some local legend, maybe? I think every towns got 'em," Clay chewed at the nail on his thumb anxiously, "she doesn't know anything. She probably got told some scary story as a kid because all these small town hicks don't like 'outsiders.' We're gonna keep looking until we find Whitney," you reassured him.
Clay nodded as he leaned back against his back, still chewing on his nail. You sighed deeply as you walked to stand in front of him.
"What now?" you asked.
"We keep driving. Hit every house we see. Then we can try to search the camp," you nodded before the two of you got back onto his motorcycle.
You drove a ways down the road, the sun was starting to get low in the sky as you parked in front of a large, red barn. You could hear some sort of machinery buzzing inside. Clay hopped of the motorcycle, setting his backpack down before pulling off his jacket. You quickly snatched it from him, wrapping it around you. The corner of his mouth twitched upwards in a lopsided smile.
"You stay here this time, yeah?" you nodded, not wanting to deal with anymore weird country folk.
He leaned in and kissed you quick before turning and walking into the barn. After about a minute he came walking back out, and you heard somebody yelling from the barn. You furrowed your brows in confusion as you stood up. You saw Clay walking back over to you.
"What was that all about?" you asked, and he shook his head.
"Just another weirdo. Let's go."
The next house you pulled up to looked somewhat normal, so you walked with Clay up to the front door. It was a large vacation looking cabin. You knocked while Clay reached down to pull a flyer from his backpack.
"Hi, we're sorry to bother you. We're looking for someone and..." your voice trailed off as you recognized the girl in the doorway; ur was the girl from the gas station.
"Hey" she said, also recognizing the two of you.
You smiled and nodded back as a greeting.
"No luck?" she asked with a frown.
"No. No, not yet"
"May I?" she asked, reaching out for the flyer.
"Yeah" Clay said as he handed it to her.
"She's pretty."
"Thanks" Clay said quietly.
"Do you guys wanna come in for a second, grab a drink?" she asked.
"Uh..." you and Clay glanced at each other before looking back at her, " I don't think your boyfriend would like that too much" you nodded in agreement.
"Don't worry about it. He'll be fine" you and Clay glanced at each other again before you shrugged.
"Thanks" Clay said with a smile.
The two of you stepped into the house, the girl closing the door behind you. You followed her into what looked like the living room. You saw two guys sitting at at table eating, and another girl holding up a video camera. She pointed it over at the two of you, but you could see her aim it at Clay. You felt jealously begin to boil in your gut, but it didn't have long to simmer. The guy from before came out from the kitchen.
"Hey, Trent, uh, you remember..." she trailed off as she gestured to the two of you.
"Clay," he said.
"Y/N," you squeaked out, feeling a mix of anger and jealously.
Trent did not look too happy with the two of you, "Of course I remember Clay and Y/N. Why are they in my house?"
"Hey, new guy, and new girl. Beer?" the girl who was previously holding the video camera held out a beer can in both hands.
"No, no," Trent put out a hand to stop her before you could snap at her, "they've gotta get going. You got flyers to pass out, right?" you bit the inside of your cheek as to not flip out on this douchebag.
"Yeah," Clay said simply, "right"
"Look, if you're hungry, we-" Trent cut his girlfriend off.
"Okay. Look, Clay, Y/N, obviously she's just trying to be nice. But you two can't stay here. No offense, but this is a private party. I don't know you."
"No, you don't know us." Clay said.
"That's so funny, I just said that. Like two seconds ago, that I don't know you. I would probably leave soon before I get pissed off and you know..." Trent trailed off, and you stifled your laughter.
"Yeah?" Clay egged him on.
"Yeah," he replied sternly.
"What happens then?" Clay continued to antagonize him.
"Hey, look. Take it easy, Trent, all right?" the girl stepped between the boys, pressing a hand to Trent's chest, "I'll just- I'll walk you out, the three of you turned and walked toward the door.
"Jenna. Jenna, come on. Where are you going?" Trent called out, but she ignored him as she slammed the door behind her.
"Sorry about that" Jenna said to you.
"That's alright. It's his house, you know?" Clay said.
"Where's your car?" she asked as she looked around.
"I do not have a car, but I do have her" he said, as you walked up to his motorcycle.
"Nice!"
"Thanks"
"I bet she's fast. My uncle used to have a bike just like this."
"Oh, yeah. She goes real fast," Clay responded with a chuckle.
"So where you off to next?" Jenna asked after a moment of silence.
"Well, we haven't been to the other side of the lake yet, so we were probably gonna go check that out," Clay told her.
"You guys want some company?" she asked, and you could see the pleading look in her eyes.
You glanced at Clay before looking back at her, "we'd love some company," you told her.
Instead of taking his motorcycle, Jenna suggested you walk down the trail that circles the lake. You happily agreed and the three of you made your way toward the trail. You walked on Clay's right, while Jenna walked on his left. You walked in silence for a bit before Jenna spoke up.
"So you and your sister must be pretty close?"
"Yeah, we were pretty close when we were younger. But we kinda drifted, you know. I mean, I bailed when I was 17, and she stayed with my mom. Um, she kind of had to, I guess. I don't know, she's always been the responsible one" Clay explained.
"So, when's the last time you talked to her?" Jenna asked.
"Uh, about six months ago. We got into a fight, actually. She uh, she called and said she wanted to see me. Said she was counting on me, and I never showed."
"Hold on," you said as you knelt down on the side of the trail.
You picked up the object from the ground, twirling it around in your hands. Clay and Jenna came over too look over your shoulder at what you had found.
"What is that?" Jenna asked.
Clay leaned down and you handed it to him, "it's a GPS," he said as you stood back up and continued walking.
Clay handed it back to you after examining it more closely. The screen was cracked and it wouldn't turn on. You shoved it into your back pocket and continued down the trail. You walked a few more minutes before coming across the entrance to a camp. The sign above the entrance read CAMP CRYSTAL LAKE in fading white pain. You felt yourself shiver as you read the words, and you hugged Clay's jacket tighter around you.
The three of you searched all the old cabins. They were decrepit and dusty. All the old furniture was still there. The bunk beds and dressers, old lamps and toys. It was eerie to see all of the old things. You wondered how long it had been since camp had actually been held here.
The sun had set by the time you had searched almost all the cabins. Fortunately, Clay had packed two flashlights in his backpack. You gave yours to Jenna, as you could see the fear is her eyes. You did your best to stay close to Clay.
"Let's just check out this last cabin, then we'll head back" Clay said as you walked toward the final cabin.
The cabin was just as old and dirty as the rest. There were dirty baby dolls and other toys scattered all over the floor, along with the the bunk beds that were falling apart. A matted teddy bear in the corner of the room made you want to turn back for the door.
"You really should call the police" Jenna said, and you turned and hurried over to them when you realized they had moved a room over.
"I've already called. They're not looking for her anymore. No one is, except for us" Clay replied.
"Then they should look harder because-" Jenna was cut off by the floorboards breaking underneath her foot, she gasped is surprise, "ow!" she cried out as her foot fell a few inches to the dirt ground below.
"You all right?" you asked as you reached your hand out for hers.
"I'm okay, I'm okay" she lifted her foot out of the hole, bringing it up to rub her ankle.
"You sure?" Clay asked.
She nodded, "yeah."
Clay reached down and picked up a dirt crusted baby doll from out of the hole in the floor.
"Please put that nasty ass thing down," you said, and he promptly threw the doll back on the floor.
"Let's get out of here," you nodded at his words.
"Yes please."
The three of you quickly made your way out of the cabin. You walked down the dirt path until Clay's flashlight began to flicker before turning off completely.
"Give me a sec, I gotta change my batteries," Clay said as he stopped to kneel down and get some batteries out of his backpack.
Jenna shined her flashlight down so he could see while you scanned your surroundings. Surprisingly, there were still some lights on the outside of the cabins that still worked. It didn't help much in illuminating the camp, though. Suddenly, you heard rustling in the distance behind you. The three of your heads shot toward the noise.
"Someone's coming," Clay said before he got up and grabbed your hand.
"Oh shit. Let's go" Jenna said, grabbing onto your arm.
Clay pulled the two of you along to a canoe holder a few feet away. You helped Jenna slide underneath before you followed quickly behind. Clay squished himself next to you and the three of you laid there silently. Jenna held a hand over her mouth to quiet her breathing. A tall, shadowy figure came walking down the main trail that cut through the whole camp. You couldn't make out many details in the darkness, but as they approached Clay's discarded backpack, it looked like a body bag was slung over their shoulder. You held tightly onto Clay's arm as you did your best to keep your breathing steady.
The figure walked up to Clay's backpack, and threw what they had been carrying to the ground with a loud thump. Now you were certain it was a dead body as you stared at the bloody stump where their head used to be. Your eyes widened and your hand flew to your mouth to stop the scream rising in your throat. Your heart was beating out of your chest. You held on tighter to Clay's arm, surely leaving imprints in his skin.
You saw the figure pick up Clay's backpack before tossing it back down. They then turned and walked off. You didn't know what he was doing at first, but it didn't matter. Clay quickly slid out from underneath the canoes and reached down to pull you out. You helped him yank Jenna out before the three of you then ran quietly to hide behind a nearby tree. You saw that whoever it was had turned on a large spotlight before walking back over to where you had been previously hiding. They angrily ripped the canoes off their holders, throwing them to the ground haphazardly. They looked around for a few seconds before they lifted the body back up and threw it over their shoulder. They grabbed Clay's backpack with their free hand and started walking towards one of the cabins.
"Wheres he going?" Clay whispered as he crept towards another tree, trying to keep the figure in sight.
"Oh my god. We gotta go," Jenna whispered frantically, but Clay shushed her.
"I gotta follow him," you grabbed Clays arm.
"Are you insane?!" you whisper yelled at him.
"He had a dead body. We gotta go. We gotta warn my friends," Jenna added.
"Jenna's right, we need to get the fuck out of here."
"Okay, okay" Clay said as he turned to follow you and Jenna.
You crept around quietly until you were a few cabins down, the. you started running. The three of you sprinted out of the camp, Jenna leading while you ran behind her. Clay took up the rear as you made your way back towards the house. You had only made it about half way when Jenna tripped over something in front of you. You stopped and helped her up.
"You okay?" Clay asked her.
"Yeah" she replied, breathlessly.
"What the hell is that?" you asked as you knelt down next to Clay.
He pulled up in a string that was at about ankle height across the path. Jenna grabbed your arm and tugged you up.
"Come on, let's go."
You continued running down the trail, following close behind Jenna. You ran for what felt like hours. Your heart continued to pound loudly in your ears as you struggled to breath. You crossed over a small bridge, a landmark that told you that you were getting close. You forced your legs to keep moving as you could see the house come into view.
"Thank god" you muttered, using the last of your strength to make it to the house.
You ran up the steps to the back of the house. Jenna shoved it open and the three of you rushed inside. Jenna went into the living room while Clay slammed the door behind you. You let out a sigh of relief as you turned the lock.
"Shit! You scared the piss out of me," one of the guys from earlier exclaimed.
Your relief was short lived as you remembered who's house you were in. Clay looked out the glass of the doors, scanning the tree line to make sure that person wasn't following you. You stood next to him with your hands cupped up against the glass as you peered out into the moonlight night.
"Where is everybody? T-There's a guy out there carrying a dead body!" Jenna told her friend.
"We need to find a phone," Clay muttered to you, "Jenna, where's the phone?" he asked her.
"Uh, I-I don't know. Over there?" she pointed toward the kitchen.
"You fucking with me cause I'm high? That's totally not cool cause I just finished smoking, okay?" Jenna's friend asked shakily.
Your eyes darted everywhere searching for the landline. You spotted it on the counter and you jogged over to pick it up. Clay was close behind as you picked it up off the receiver and passed it to him with shaky hands. He quickly dialed 911.
"Hi, I'd like to report a homicide. Uh, Clay Miller. Yeah, I'm at a house by Crystal lake. It's... Yeah, that's it. Hurry," he said into the phone before hanging up, "they said they're sending someone," he said to the room as he sped walked back over to the back door; you followed him close behind.
"Police?" you noticed Jenna's friend holding a bright purple bong in his hand, and you let out a sort laugh.
"Yeah," Clay replied as he brushed past the guy.
"Where is everybody else?" Jenna asked again.
"I don't know. I've been here all day. Chelsea and Nolan left, like, hours ago to the lake," the guy explained as was getting increasingly more panicked.
"Well, what about Trent? Bree?"
"They're in the bedroom."
You glanced over when you heard him say that, and Jenna gave you an annoyed look.
"Uh oh," you muttered, wondering if you'd have to deal with a breakup in the middle of all this shit.
"What?" Clay asked you franticly, not paying attention to anything else but keeping watch.
"Oh, nothing. Nothing" you assured him as you turned back to look out the window.
Jenna came back after a minute without Trent or Bree. Now you really hated this guy. You were just about to go over and ask if she needed you to get Clay to break the door down, when all the lights in the house went out.
"Oh fuck" you muttered.
"Who's messing with the lights?" you heard Trent yell as he walked into the living room.
"Oh shit. Chewie's still out there," you heard Jenna's friend say.
You watched Clay put the phone to his ear before shaking his head, "phones dead. Jenna, do you have a cell phone? Do you have anything?"
"No, nothing has signal" she told him.
"What the fuck are you two doing here?" Trent yelled as him and who you guessed was Bree walked into the living room.
"Trent-" Jenna tried to stop him, but he ignored her, continuing to yell over her.
"Get the fuck out!" he yelled at you.
"Easy" Clay yelled back.
"They're just trying to help us!" Jenna pleaded.
"Oh and you, you leave with them for eight hours, fucking all over the woods? You know what? Why don't you get the fuck out too?" Trent said angrily to Jenna.
You were running off so much adrenaline at that point that you couldn't stop the words that came out of your mouth, "are you fucking kidding me, bro? You say that like you and Bree weren't just up there fucking! We've been dealing with a murderer, so maybe you should shut the fuck up!" you truly didn't care what these people thought of you, so the burning embarrassment you thought would follow your rant, never came.
Clay backed you up, yelling just as loud, if not louder, "listen, dumb shit! There's a bigger problem-" Trent cut Clay off by pushing him back.
"Are you serious? There is a killer out there! He's the one who cut the lights!" Clay shouted as Jenna stepped in front of Trent.
You didn't make a move to stop Clay. You honestly wanted him to knock this guy out. You'd rather do it yourself, but it would be just as satisfying watching Clay knock the guy to the floor.
"Trent, don't you get it? Chelsea and Nolan never came back," Jenna continued to plead with Trent, "Lawrence, what are you doing?" Jenna questioned her friend as he grabbed a hanging frying pan from off its hook and headed for the back door.
"My boys still out there. I'm gonna go get him" he replied.
"That's a really bad idea, dude," you told him.
"Yeah, don't go out there. Please" Clay pleaded with him.
"Look, I told you, all right? You can't get a handle on me. I'll surprise you every time," he said with a confident smirk before heading out the back door.
'He's fucking dead,' you thought as you shook your head.
"Guys this is bullshit. The power goes out here all the time" Trent said after all of you had waited for Lawrence in silence for a while.
Suddenly, you heard screams in the distance.
"Help me!" you heard Lawrence scream from outside, "help! Help me! Please, help me!"
"Lawrence," Jenna said before running toward the back door.
Clay stepped in front of her put his hands out to stop her, "no, no, no. You can't go out there."
"We have to help him." she said.
"No, we can't-"
You cut Clay off, "he's just using your friend as bait. He wants us to go out, because the second we do, he's gonna get us too.
"Look, you don't know that," Trent said, but the shake in his voice told you that he wasn't so sure.
"Jesus, where are the police?" Bree cried out before walking into the kitchen out of view.
You could still hear Lawrence screaming for help in the distance, "I can't move!"
"Look, we have to help him," Jenna said, but you just shook your head no.
You all stood there in silence, other than Lawrence's screams, "I can't die like this! Help me, please! Trent!" you wanted to help him, but what help would you be to him dead?
"Somebody has to do something! Shut up, shut up, shut up!" Bree yelled frantically as she began to sob.
You heard one final scream from outside, then nothing. All you could hear now were the sounds of Bree sobbing. Jenna reluctantly turned and walked over to where Bree was sat on the floor with her knees hugged to her chest.
"Everything's going to be okay. The cops are on their way" Jenna said to Bree as she knelt down next to her.
"You hear that?" you whispered to Clay.
He nodded, "yeah. Nothing."
A shiver ran down your spine as you realized Lawrence was most likely dead. The realization made your heart begin to pound loudly in your ears again. You couldn't hear anything over the thumping as the events of the last few hours flashed through your mind. You felt warm hands on your shoulders before being turned to the left.
"Y/N? Are you okay?" Clay asked you with a concerned look on his face.
"Y-Yeah," you lied.
"Listen to me. I am not going to let anything happen to you. We are both gonna get out of this alive," he told you firmly, but still being gentle with you at the same time.
You nodded furiously as the tears began to well up in your eyes. Clay wrapped his arms around you and pulled you into his chest. He held you close, rubbing your back softly as you sniffed, trying to keep the tears in. You jumped when you heard sudden banging, and you turned to see Trent walking up the stairs. You also noticed the phone lying in pieces on the ground.
"W-What are you doing?" Clay asked him
Trent ignored him, continuing up the stairs. Bree went up after him soon after. You and Clay went back over to look out the back doors. Jenna came over and stood next to you, handing both of you a flashlight.
A few minutes passed when a knocking on the door made Jenna jump and let out a gasp. Clay shushed her. The three of you stood still as statues.
"Police!" you heard someone yell from the door.
"Oh, thank god" Jenna said as you let out a breath you didn't realize you were holding it.
"Go, go" Clay ushered you to the front door.
"Police, open up!"
Jenna pushed the curtain back to the window next to the door. Before you could pull the door open, a sharp object came through it, the tip of it just barely missing your eye. You were frozen in fear as Jenna screamed and sprinted away from the door.
"Oh shit. Oh shit. Go, go, go" Clay grabbed you but the waist and yanked you away from the door.
You were snapped out of your shock and the three of you ran up the stairs and into the first room you found. Clay ran over to shut any open windows.
"Get the door," Clay said.
"Okay, shit," Jenna muttered as you both turned; she let out a short scream when Trent appeared in the door way, making you jump slightly.
"What are you doing? Is he in the house?" Trent asked.
"He killed the cop" Jenna told him.
Trent cocked the pistol he was holding.
"What the fuck, you've got a gun? Let's go, now!" Clay gestured toward the gun then out the door.
You rushed quickly out of the room. Suddenly, Trent stopped and turned to shoot a few shots into the closet.
"For fucks sake!" you yelled as your hands flew up to cover your ears.
"Jesus! What are you doing!? Give me the gun!" Clay yelled at him.
You heard a thud inside the next room to your right.
"Someone's in there," Jenna said with a shake in her voice.
Clay pushed you and Jenna back as Trent turned around started shooting blindly at the closed door.
"Check it out" Clay ordered him.
Trent walked slowly toward the door before turning the handle and attempting to push it open. It seemed like something was in the way, but after one final push, it opened. Trent leaned in to check before he quickly out and shut the door.
"Bree's dead. He killed Bree!" he shouted before turning and running down the stairs.
The three of you followed him down the stairs and to the front door. Clay unlocked it and pulled the door open.
"Holy fuck" you heard the shake in your own voice as you saw the cop; a fire poker had been jabbed through his eye, and you shuddered at the fact that you could have suffered a similar fate. Clay patted down the cop, in hopes of finding anything useful.
"There's no gun, no keys, nothing. Let's go," you ran toward the cop car and Trent tried opening the passenger door with no luck.
You followed Clay to his motorcycle, "where are the keys?" he asked as he searched around for them.
"I don't know!" you replied, continuing to frantically search the ground for them.
"Help! We got officers down!" you heard Trent yell into what you assumed was the cops radio.
"My keys are gone. Where are my keys? Are they in my jacket?" you shoved your hands into the pockets of his jacket that you were wearing, finding them empty.
"No, I don't know where they are!"
"Hey Jenna, fuck these two. Let's get out of here!" Trent turned to grab at the radio again when suddenly, Bree's dead body fell on top of the hood of the cop car; the windshield shattered as Trent began to scream.
Jenna screamed too as Clay began pushing both of you you, "go, go, go!" he repeated as he pushed you toward the woods.
You ran down the trail that went around the lake, and back toward the camp. You jogged the way you had went earlier that day. When you got to the entrance of the camp, Clay led you off on a side path you hadn't noticed before.
"He was headed this way. Come on" you followed Clay to the large cabin you saw the figure walking towards earlier.
You snuck your way inside. Clay led as you held onto his hand tightly, your other arm linked with Jenna's as you crept through the cabin. The place was a decaying mess, just like the rest of the cabins had been. This one was bigger though, and it looked like it had been a counselor cabin. The more you looked around, the more it looked like someone's actual house. As you were walking through the house, you thought you heard distant, muffled screaming.
Clay stopped, seemingly he had heard it too, "did you hear that?" Clay asked and you nodded.
"What was that?" Clay shushed Jenna, and the three of you stood there in silence for a moment.
You heard another scream and it sounded like it came from below you.
"What the fuck..." Clay muttered as he began pushing debris aside with his foot. He used the small pickaxe tool he had found earlier to pull open what seemed to be some sort of basement or cellar door.
You shined your flashlight down to see that it was only a few feet deep. Clay dropped down into the hole before helping you and Jenna down. You crouched down and crawled into what looked like old mining tunnels. They were cluttered with old camping equipment, and other random junk. There was the occasional lantern hung up to keep the tunnels lit.
You walked quietly through the tunnels before coming to a fork. Clay looked at both of his options before turning down the right path.
"This way," Clay said before leading the way down the long tunnel.
The tunnel led to another cluttered area. Off to the right, you saw Whitney chained up and sat on a dirty mattress on the floor.
"Clay? Y/N?" she said in disbelief.
"Whitney? Whitney!" Clay said as he rushed over to her.
"Oh my god, Whitney!" you exclaimed as you followed him.
You were surprised to see her still alive. You were beyond thankful, but after seeing that headless body, your hope of finding her had diminished greatly.
"Thank god," Clay knelt down and hugged her.
"Are you okay?" he asked as he held her close.
"Yeah. Thank god," she echoed.
"You're okay. You're okay. Oh god," he said as he pulled away, holding her face in his hands.
You knelt down next to her and looked down at the chains holding her in place.
"Just get me out of here," Whitney begged.
"We will, we're gonna get you out of here" you told her as you aimed the flashlight down so Clay could see.
"Come on, you guys, let's go," Jenna said frantically from behind you.
"Can you break it? Just break it," Whitney said.
Clay picked up his pickaxe and Whitney held her hands up on a box next to her. You reached over and helped to keep her hands apart and steady. It was a futile effort, as all your hand were shaking.
"Hold still" Clay told her.
"Please hurry," Whitney cried.
Clay reared back then whacked the pickaxe down, missing the chain.
"We gotta get out of here" you heard Jenna whimper from behind you.
"I don't wanna hit you," he said, worriedly.
"Just fucking do it!" Whitney said.
"Okay, okay" Clay took another swing, missing again.
You heard a loud thud in the distance.
"Oh god" Whitney whispered.
One more swing and Clay broke the chain.
"You guys, I can see him. He's coming," Jenna said as she ran back toward you.
"We gotta go," you said as you stood up.
"Grab onto me," Clay told Whitney as he wrapped his arm around her middle.
You helped him lift her up off the ground and the four of you started running down the tunnel, the opposite way of which you came. You ran a few minutes before Jenna stopped in front of you.
"It's a dead end. What are we gonna do?" you heard her say as you saw the end of the tunnel, "Clay?Hurry," Jenna pleaded as he looked around for a way out.
"Here. Here!" Clay pushed on a grate that was above you; he pulled and yanked on it but it wouldn't budge.
He looked down in front of him at a pile of boxes, "we can get through here," you and Clay knocked them down to reveal a small opening in the dirt wall.
"Follow me," Clay said before he crawled in first.
He turned around and stuck his hand out to Whitney, and you ushered her inside. You quickly followed, taking Clay's hand and letting him pull you in. You turned around to help Jenna.
"Give me your hand, Jenna. Come on hurry. Okay, I got you," Clay said as he grabbed Jenna's hand.
Before you could pull her all the way in, a machete was plunged through Jennas chest. Whitney screamed as you all fell back.
"Oh my- fuck! Jesus, god, no," Clay tried to grab Jenna's outstretched hand.
"Clay no, come on. Clay!" Whitney said as you both tried to pull him back.
"Oh, fuck" he muttered as the blade was pulled back out of Jenna, and the man pushed her lifeless body to the side.
"She's gone Clay, we gotta go!" you grabbed his arm and pulled him back.
You ran down the tunnel as fast as you could. As you were running, Whitney accidentally kicked a box with her foot, knocking over a lantern. You heard it shatter on the ground and the loud whoosh of the flames you felt the heat behind you. You hoped that would slow the bastard down.
"Look. I think this might be a way out" Whitney said as you reached a wooden ladder leading up.
Clay climbed up, pushing floorboards out of the way, "alright. Let's go. Come on. Hurry," Clay said once he decided the coast was clear.
You let Whitney go up first, checking behind you as she climbed up the rickety ladder. Clay pulled her up before reaching down to help you.
"Come on," you climbed up and reached out for his hand, letting him pull you up and out of the hole, "let's go," he said as he turned and started walking.
You quickly realized you were in an overturned bus. Clay walked to the other end of it with you and Whitney close behind. The door to leave was above you, and Clay yanked and hit at it to get it open.
"Shit, it's stuck," Clay muttered.
Finally he was able to yank on the handle and it squeaked open. Clay climbed out before reaching down to help you.
"Give me your hand!" Clay called down to you.
You helped push Whitney up and out of the hole as she reached for Clays hand.
"On three. One, two-" before he could finish, something pulled him back.
"Run! Whitney, Y/N, get-" he was cut off as he was yanked away.
"Clay!" Whitney yelled.
"Clay!" you echoed her.
"Stop it!" Whitney yelled as Clays head was smashed through a window above you.
"No! Clay!" you looked up and saw the man who had been terrorizing you; his face was covered by a hockey mask, but you could see his wide eyes staring down at you.
"Shit. Shit, what do we do?" Whitney cried.
"We hide. Move, move" you pushed her toward the other end of the bus.
Whitney climbed up onto a small ledge above the hole you just came out of. You crouched down to the left behind a row of bus seats at the very back of the bus. You stayed quiet as the man walked slowly over to the hole before looking down into it.
"Fuck you," you heard Whitney spit.
You peeled out from your hiding spot to watch her use both her feet to kick him backwards, causing him to fall into the hole.
She hopped off the ledge, tripping and falling face first on the floor. The man came up out of the hole and grabbed onto Whitney's ankle. She screamed as she tried to crawl froward. Her nails scraped along the metal of the bus. She kicked at the man's face, but he didn't let go. She continued to scream as you looked around for anything to help. You noticed a plank and your feet, and you lifted it up over his head. You brought it down hard, knocking him down into the hole and forcing him to release his grip on Whitney's ankle. You jumped over the hole and helped Whitney to her feet as you heard creaking above you.
"Y/N! Whitney!" Clay yelled from above you.
"Clay!" Whitney called back, running toward the other end of the bus, you close behind.
The rain started to pour down onto the three of you as Clay helped you out of the bus. You helped push Whitney up before Clay pulled you up. He helped the two of you hop off the side of the bus before you started running off into the woods as the rain soaked through your clothes. You ran for awhile before coming across the barn you had stopped at earlier in the day. Clay made sure the coast was clear before waving you over.
"Hide" Clay whispered as you stepped into the cluttered barn.
Whitney grabbed onto your hand and pulled you to the left, the two of you crouching down behind a pile of random junk. Clay walked further into barn as you knelt down behind some boxes with Whitney. Suddenly you heard a loud crash. You couldn't see their fight from where you were crouched down. Whitney stood up slightly and peeked out to watch. You waited a few seconds before looking over her shoulder.
The man pulled out his machete and swung it at Clay. Your whole body tensed as Clay dodged the blade and pushed the masked man back into the wall. He was quick to flip Clay around and slam him against a huge wood chipper. It whirred to life, and you recognized it to be the machinery you had heard earlier that day. The man threw Clay to the floor before picking him back up by his hair, pushing his head toward the spinning blades of the wood chipper.
"Shit, Whitney, we have to do something or he's gonna kill Clay," Whitney looked like she was thinking before she stood up and walked to the center of the barn.
"Whitney, wait!" you whisper yelled, but she didn't listen.
You stayed hidden, looking around for some kind of weapon. You saw a metal baseball bat lying in the grassy floor next to you. You picked it up and readied yourself to run out if you needed to.
"Jason," Whitney called out.
You watched him turn and look at her. She held something up, it looked like a necklace of some sort. You peered out and watched the killer throw Clay to the ground.
"It's okay," Whitney said as she began to walk closer to him, "you can stop now. It's okay," you didn't know what the hell she was doing, but it was too late to stop her now.
You watched Clay charge him, hitting him with something in his back. You stood and rushed over as Clay wrapped chain around his neck. Whitney took the other end of the chain and threw it into the wood chipper. The chain got stuck, and yanked Jason into the air by his neck. He thrashed around in the air, trying to get free, with no luck. Clay walked around him and back over to you and Whitney.
Suddenly, the board snapped that the chain was wrapped around snapped, causing Jason to fall to the floor. He quickly got back up, grabbing a piece of the broken wood and hitting Clay across the face with it. He went flying backwards until he hit the wall of the barn, falling to the floor. Jason then turned and hit you in the stomach, causing you to fly backwards too. You landed in a pile of junk, every part of your body aching.
"Y/N!?" you only groaned in pain as you felt a pair of hands grab you, "Y/N! Are you okay?" Clay pulled you up and into his arms.
"I don't know" he held you up as he helped you walk back towards Whitney.
You looked over and saw Jason, laying back against the wood chipper, covered in blood with a machete in his chest. You then looked over at Clay, who had a cut on his left cheek. You reached up and cupped his cheek gently. You also noticed the bruise already forming on his chin where he had been hit with the plank of wood.
"Can you stand?" he asked you.
You nodded as you tried to put your weight back into your wobbly legs, "I think so. Let's get out of here, leave this for someone else."
"What if he..." Whitney trailed off.
"He won't. There's no way. Let's just get the hell out of here!"
Whitney nodded in agreement. The three of you started to head out of the barn, Clay keeping you upright with an arm around your middle. Whitney was on your either side, holding you up as well.
You couldn't help but take one last look behind you, and you could have sworn you saw him twitch. You ignored it, telling yourself that it was finally over.
"I told you we'd make it out alive," Clay said with a weak smile.
"I told you we'd find Whitney," you kissed his cheek before doing the same to Whitney, and she chuckled, which made smile.
Hi there! It seems like you watch a wide variety of horror movies. Could you recommend some interesting or unique vampire films that have caught your attention?
Hi there anon,
I'd sure like to help. Since you say "interesting or unique" I'll skip over the widely praised usual things. Vampire basics like Bram Stoker's Dracula (looks gorgeous, great cast, perfect soundtrack), The Lost Boys (peak 80s style) or Blade (great vampire action).
Only Lovers Left Alive - vampires are somewhat immortal and living long enough brings its own bag of emotions. Dread, depression, nihilism. Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston play longtime married vampires living mostly apart and drifting back into each other's life for a bit. Also blood sucking isn't all that fun with todays diseases. (IMDB)
Near Dark - this is a classic, but sometimes it gets overlooked. Director/writer Kathryn Bigelow tells a sorta western story, but there are vampires in it, except we don't even call them that. It starts with young dude means a beautiful woman, and oops she bites him and then he falls in with the crowd she hangs out with. Lots of violence in this one. (IMDB)
Stake Land - I really enjoy the film "Daybreakers" about a world with vampires being the dominant species and the problems it causes, that is a wider known film of that variety. "Stake Land" is like the discarded sibling, focusing on a post-apocalyptic atmosphere. A vampire hunter finds a survivor who just saw his family being slaughtered and they drive cross-country to hopefully find a safe place. If you like typical zombie-apocalypse genre conventions, then this is a nice vampire version. (IMDB)
Shadow of the Vampire - really not a hidden gem, but I have to mention it. This film tells the story of the filming of Murnau's 1922 "Nosferatu", but in this the lead actor Max Schreck is actually a vampire. Willem Dafoe gives a wonderful performance and it's just film history wrapped into vampire drama. (IMDB)
What We Do in the Shadows - this was definitely unique when it came out and hey, it spawned a whole tv show. A mockumentary about vampires just living in the real world. Just fun to watch. (IMDB)
Cronos - this is Guillermo del Toro's first feature film and tbh it's been forever since I've seen it. There is a device that grants immortality, but the side effects are pretty much turning into a vampire (the hunger for blood, not going out in the sun). An old man finds the device and a not so noble businessman desperately wants it. Fun to see early del Toro and his use of monsters vs human evil. (IMDB)
A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night - an Iranian black-and-white film, about a female vampire who is drawn into some family drama about addiction. Not an easy watch, very stylistic (influenced highly by spaghetti western), but also really interesting with the themes of desire and danger. Unique for sure. (IMDB)
We Are the Night - if I'm really honest, I'm not sure I would even call this a good film. There is so much I'd like to change. BUT I also absolutely adore it for being unapologetic about a group of women doing what the fuck they want - as vampires. And there is a reason they don't turn men. This is something that can be build on. (IMDB)
Byzantium - full disclosure, I saw this once and didn't enjoy it much, but I want to give it another shot, because I think I was in the wrong mood back then. Director Neil Jordan is good with visuals and being weird like in "Interview with the Vampire", "The Butcher Boy" ot"Breakfast on Pluto". And here he tells a long interwoven life story of a mother and daughter vampire duo. In a world where vampires have a strict code and used to be mostly noble men. So there is class and gender in the mix, lots of sexuality (there is rape and prostitution) etc etc. Maybe this could be for you, idk. (IMDB)
Let the Right on in - always to be found on a list like this. There is the Swedish film (based on the book) and an US remake that made a few choice changes, but is overall still worth watching. Kinda a bummer to put it out as a vampire film right away. When I read the book I thought it was just a serial killer story and the twists and turns of who is who was a wild ride. There is a young boy who gets bullied at school, but befriends the new kid in the neighborhood who seems to live a weird life. Heavy themes about grooming and the true horror only sets in at the end. (IMDB)
As for simple vampire action, I do love the "Underworld" series. This year's "Abigail" shouldn't have revealed it was a vampire film at all, but it's very bloody and funny, so a quick watch. Also a bloody good time is "30 Days of Night", and I stand by my belief that red blood looks fantastic on white snow. If you like animated films, the anime "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust" is a great gothic vampire love story. There's lots to find.
Why Did it Have To be Him? (remake)
This is a remake of an old fanfic, based off my comfort book/movie The Outsiders. Yes, I know, I'm messed up.
Summary: Being Ponyboy's twin isn't all fun and games. Sure, having three older brothers is fun, but when you're crushing on one of your brothers' best friend, things change.
Warnings: Swearing, Violence, 2-year age gap, Self-deprecating thoughts, Reader is 15, Steve is 17, confession
Pairing: Steve Randle X Fem. Reader
Y/n describes her crush on Steve Randle is why did it have to be him? It was a question that she consistently asked herself since she was 13.
When she was 13, she was jumped by a couple of Socs walking home from school. She remembers it like it was yesterday, it's why she can't walk by herself anymore without having a panic attack when any car drives by her.
She remembers the words that they said to her, what they were going to do with her, it scared her. Then she remembered when Steve came barreling towards them--he was 15 at the time--he still hit like a tank. He held her as she cried against his chest--before that she got used to the idea of not showing much emotion around the gang--that was the first time Steve seen her cry. The second time was at her parents' funeral.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y/n was now 15 years old, the crush she had on Steve was very much present in her life. She thought it would be better not to say anything to him, given that he was Sodapop's best friend.
She was by herself, walking to the DX Station to grab a coke and head to find Two-Bit, Dally, or Ponyboy. A car drove by her very slowly, the hairs on her arms lifted as she glanced over at it. Socs, damn it!
Swallowing hard, she picked up her speed, hoping that she would make it to the DX station before they came around the block again. "Please, please, please," she repeated.
The car came back around and came to a stop not too far from her. The Socs got out and surrounded her, "What's a girl like you doing on this side of town?"
"Please, leave me alone," her voice was quiet.
"She doesn't look like no greaser."
"Watch it, it's a Curtis kid," one warned.
Ever since Ponyboy and Johnny came back from being on the run, everyone at school was cautious of the two, even if they seemed harmless.
"Maybe we should rough her up and give them a message."
"No, she might have a blade," one of the Socs argued again. The Soc, who seemed like the ringleader turned towards Y/n with a warning look.
"You try anything, we'll skin you alive," she could only nod as her legs were trembling. Something loud clicked behind the Socs, a voice originated where the click was.
"Fucking touch, her and you'll be the one skinned, pal."
"Steve," Y/n warned as she caught a glimpse of his brown shaggy hair.
"Back the fuck off" he sneered. The Socs moved as Steve continued to hold the blade out to them with a glare, they rushed back to the car as Steve sighed and snapped the switch back into the handle and shoved it into his pocket. "Y/n, are you--"
She slammed her body into his, her arms tightly wrapped around his midsection. Tears started to roll down her cheeks, "Shh, I've got you."
"Please, don't let me go."
"I'm not, I'm not," he repeated.
"I thought you were at work," she pointed out after she composed herself.
"Got off early," he explained as Sodapop came up.
"What the hell happened?"
"Socs," Steve answered, Soda glared behind him, he saw the car but didn't think of anything of it.
"Y/n, are you okay?" He asked, seeing how hard her grip on Steve was.
"I'm fine," her voice trembled.
"Let's get you home," he suggested. She only nodded in agreement, she didn't let go of Steve, not like he minded much. He held his arm around her as she kept a grip on his shirt.
They entered the Curtis home, it was strangely quiet, compared to the crazy early mornings. Steve led her over to her room, she was still trembling as she laid down against the mattress. "Hey," she glanced over at Steve. "Me and Soda are going to be in the living room if you need us, okay?"
"Okay," Steve closed the door behind him. Y/n turned over and stared out the window as tears began to come back.
Of course, you had to make yourself look weak in front of Steve.
Ever since she cried in front of him for the first time, she hadn't been able to stop, it was as if Steve just broke down all her walls that she spent years building up. It was embarrassing.
Y/n pulled her knees to her chest as she kept a stuffed bear that her parents gave her when she was a baby. She hugged it close to her chest as tears continued to soak the fake fur. Sleep soon over took her, when she woke up there was a loud crash in the living room, then yelling followed.
She pulled herself out of bed, taking a brush to her hair and adjusting her clothes as she peered out of the door of her room and slipped out. She saw Two-Bit and Dally, Dally had Two-Bit in a choke hold.
"Uncle!" Two-Bit screamed as Dally let go.
Steve turned towards Y/n, seeing that he was awake, a scowl spread across his features. He approached her,
"Did you hear them?"
"No," she lied.
"Are you okay?"
"I think so," she shrugged. Steve eyebrows crunched as he tried to think of something to cheer her up more. He glanced back at the group before turning towards her,
"Want to go outside?" she nodded before following him, slipping on her shoes. "Are you sure you're alright? You were really shaken when I found you," she nodded. "Y/n, don't lie to me," fuck. Why did Steve have to read her like a book?
Y/n grabbed Steve pulling him into a tight hug, he let her, resting his cheek against her hair. "I'm here if you need me," he promised.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Steve and Y/n didn't know how much time had passed; Y/n was just contempt in holding him in her arms. Glancing up, he shifted to look at her.
"Steve, I need to tell you something," she whispered. He waited; her face began to grow warm as she swallowed thickly. "I... I love you!" She said it so quickly, Steve didn't think he heard it right.
"I'm sorry?" She shoved away from him, trembling. Steve stood there, his arms falling to his sides,
"I shouldn't have said anything, I'm sorry."
"Wait!" he grabbed her wrist and stopped her from going down the steps. She turned towards him with a pleading look, "I was taken by surprise!"
"I know, I'm sorry, just pretend like I didn't say anything."
"No, I'm not going to do that, why would I?"
"Steve, out of everyone in this damn town, I'm the worse one."
"What? You're the best choice, I don't understand." Y/n paused, waiting for him to continue. "Y/n, I've been in love with you for so long."
"How?"
"How?" he repeated, "Y/n you have no idea how strong you are." she laughed, in a mocking tone.
"Strong, I can't even be in front of Socs without shaking."
"Bullshit, the rumble, you kicked the Soc's ass. The one that was on top of Pony, remember?"
"That doesn't count."
"Like hell it doesn't!" He sighed, reaching forward. His thumb rugged against her cheek, "Listen, you don't have to be like the gang. You feel, it's okay, we all do." Y/n bit the inside of her cheek before grabbing Steve's vest and pulling him down, he was a bit caught off guard as she slammed her lips against his. It was awkward and nervous, Steve shut his eyes and Y/n untensed.
Pulling away, Y/n let out a huff as air filled her lungs again. Steve smirked, the smug look on his face was soon crushed as they heard wolf whistles behind them. Turning, they saw Two-Bit, Dally, Soda, Pony, and Johnny sticking their heads out the doorway.
"Dal, you owe me," Two-bit pointed out which caused Dally to hit him on the side of the head. "OW!"
"You made bets?" Y/n asked, angerily.
"Duh, you know how long we've waited for this to happen?" Soda asked as if it was an obvious thing.
"Should I ask?"
"Three years," Pony yelled, which caused Soda to glare at him. Steve rolled his eyes, "What?"
Steve glanced at Y/n, she just had an awkward smile on her face. "Alright, shows over, go get!" he shoved the guys into the house.
"Man, I wished I had a camera!" Two-bit teased, causing Steve to shove him a bit harder. It wasn't long before he slammed the door closed, turning towards Y/n, once again.
"Darry will be home soon," she pointed out.
"I know, sorry about them," she shrugged.
"It's fine," he shook his head.
"You wouldn't mind go on a date with me, would you?"
"Not at all," he smiled before quickly closing him mouth. Y/n reached up,
"Don't, I like your smile."
"You sure? My teeth aren't the most faltering thing in the world," he pointed out. She nodded,
"Yeah, I'm sure."
They're some of my favorite! It's hard for me to really pick my favorites of anything (except for people, that of which is you^^<3) off the top of my head though, I like spy x family a lot too. I've read the manga for seraph of the end and plan on watching the anime soon, but it got confusing after they suddenly just kinda went back and saw the first vampire guy when mika died? I think? I really have no clue lol. I have a pretty bad sense of time too, it really sucks when there's so much I wanna do. I'm assuming you haven't seen kill counts? I watch this channel on yt called dead meat, and they give a movie synopsis alongside counting the kills in various horror movies. I think they're pretty funny. Ik that escape room movie, i found it kinda well written and fun^^ I've seen just about everything about omori except an actual playthrough, it seems really interesting. Who's your favorite characters? From what I've seen, I really like Kel and basil^^ I'm not really the best person to give advice on where to start in xmen, cause tbh, I saw a nightcrawler edit on tik tok and got obsessed with him lol. I looked up everything about him so it's not like I know nothing about him or something and I will watch the movies some time, i just haven't gotten to watch them yet. The end of the fucking world is a Netflix show about these two kids who kinda run away and be adults and realize everything's shit^^ James (boy mc) is a psychopath who ran away with Allysa (girl mc) with the intent to kill her and he ended up falling in love and killing a nasty guy that tried to mess with Allysa. Allysa is a kinda blunt girl that a lot of people say has bpd (idk if it's Canon or not) and she's really cool and badass and speaks her mind^^ James for me is totally transition goals lol
Omg like no one irl know total drama, I'm glad you do^^ who was your favorite characters? I love gravity falls too! I really liked the plot and thought it was just the best! I watched Winx and mlp when I was younger, though idk if I was old enough to understand it all :< maybe I'll watch the remake of Winx when it comes out^^ I love good animation- have you seen takt op destiny? It's absolutely goregeous and beautiful, though the plot isnt totally understandable, i feel. I've seen that video recommended to me, and I actually have it in my watch later for whenever I watch the playthrough. I'm glad you might check it out^^ and that at least I can talk to you about stuff^^ sorry this was so long lol
-ike<3
I know how you feel, I find it hard to do the same at times ! (。>\\<)
Spy x Family is a lot of fun !! I like it a lot too ! I'm . not really up to date with the manga, but I know what's happening . kind of . I also lost track around that time, but !! I think I understand whats going on, at least. I agree, it really frustrates me (◞ ⸝⸝ ◟ )
oooo !! Okay ! It sounds fun ! Omori is really cool. . . It's my favourite game ! I really like all of the main characters. . . It's hard to pick favourites because they all sort of like . plague my mind /pos but ! I think it's probably Sunny and Basil that are my top favourites, but I really love the others ! They are all so special to me
That's fair, I've done that too, with different things ! I only watched voltron because of one of the characters at first lmao I hope you enjoy the movies then, when you are able to watch them !! ^–^
Omgmg it sounds so !!!! I'll definitely watch it ! I'll let you know my thoughts when I do ! I think I liked Gwen and and Mike a lot !! I liked Alejandro and Heather too. . . despite them being like . evil sometimes. I liked Chris too ! Who are your favourites ? Gravity Falls is super awesome, there seems to be something going on with it recently, though I don't really know what but I'm excited nonetheless
I watched them a bunch of times growing up, and I rewatched mlp again a couple months, or at least the seasons on netflix ! I haven't ! I just looked it up, though, and it looks really nice. I think I've seen clips of it because it looks familliar but I'm not really sure ! The video kind of . hit me like a ton of bricks, so, this is a warning I suppose !!
And it's okay ! I know mine can be long too :)
The fact that despite getting three whole cities/continents to pin Ludinus to, there’s still no place you can say he belongs to.
There is no place he calls home. Aeor is long gone. He left Issylra. He most likely destroyed Molaesmyr. The Empire is just means to an end for him. The very fact that the dossier on him is so sparse shows that he has nothing to his name.
No family, no record of who sent him to Molaesmyr to study? No friends, no lover, no one who really knows him on a personal level. Ludinus’s whole documented life could fit on one roll of parchment. He’s practically a ghost. All the talk of Ruidusborn and tethers. Ludinus lacks a tether to Exandria. Because what he’s chasing isn’t Exandria. He doesn’t want to be connected to this world. He wants to remake the world.
Maybe he had a home once. Hell he says he did. He says he watched it burn. But wherever that was, whatever it was, it’s gone.
There’s something to be said about trauma here too. In that in response to loss, Ludinus turns inwards. After losing his first home, he refused to plant roots ever again. When faced with rejection from the people in Molaesmyr, Ludinus draws inwards, removing himself from the public. There’s this repeated refusal to face or acknowledge pain. To face the things that hurt you or oppose you, it’s a tough thing to do but refusing to ever let yourself connect because it could be taken away, because they may not understand your perspective is also equally as unhealthy. Ludinus has refused to face it all and instead of processing, redirects it and has blamed it all on the gods. Yes, they did fuck up Aeor and it honestly was a dick move because pretty sure there were a lot of innocents in that city other than the shitty mages.
But he’s done things equally as bad. There’s this fucked up rationalization Ludinus has done in that the pain he’s felt because of the gods outweighs anything heinous he does. He’s like “they committed the first sin, if I do some more it is only because they did it first.” It’s childish in a way.
It’s interesting. There’s something sad….or well maybe pitiful is more appropriate about Ludinus. Because there’s a point of understanding in grief and loss. But there’s also the aspect of pity because he becomes this bitter monster because he cannot let go. Because he cannot let himself connect to something again and all that’s left is the loss and the rage. Because where does he go? What does he belong to? He does not.
He has let the tragedy of the Calamity define him until that is all he is. And as the world moved on from the old, he no longer belonged in the new one.
i have a questionnnnn
do you like video games?
and do you know baldur's gate 3 and final fantasy 7?
i got into those during my last vacations and idk why it never occurred to me to ask you even tho i am obsessed with astarion and sephiroth (it's always the white haired guys my taste is so predictable) and cloud but that's another thing
the characterization in both of those games is soooo good especially if you watch almost everything ff7 related like i did (takes a while though)
anyways i felt you could do them justice if you were to write about them, especially astarion. ngl i was very disappointed when i went on socials, as usual, to consume content about the media i just watched and i was very shocked in a bad way
not by the quality, there's just tons of thirst edits for example and while i agree his character is pretty and everything, it kinda hurt cuz it just went against his WHOLE character arc ... i was very disappointed with the fandom haha
same with sephiroth, though i didnt resent as much cuz his story isn't about the fact of being sexualized against his will
UGH I LOVE BOTH OF THEM SO MUCH. SORRY FOR THE RAMBLING -
anyways yeah i love media in general, series/movies/games you name it as long as there's a story or just one character that i rlly like i'll love it
so i was wondering what games you liked... or media in general at this point, except the movies you posted about
also no pressure but is there a system with asks? are they removed from your inbox if you answer them? are they automatically deleted after some time? just to know cuz i haven't gotten an answer to mine and i'm scared i might've said something bad! esp since i read badly your rules and didn't see a negation and maybe said smth about looking forward to a next part :') smh
HELLOO NONNIEE:3333 I LOVE VIDEO GAMESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but i have only heard abt baldur's gate and final fantasy sadly!!!! i have nothing against them they just don't necessarily seem my type of games.. BALDUR'S GATE CHARACTER CREATION SEEMS SO FUCKING FUN THOUGH OMFGGG
and i've definitely seen and heard a lot of astarion!!!!!!!!!! i've also seen some stuff abt him being really overly sexualized right????? his character seems so cool i would love to get to know him better wahh i really do wanna try baldur's gate one day!!!!!!! and unfortunately i only know sephiroth by name too:((( i'm sorry to disappoint u nonnie baby:(((
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH VIDEO GAMES I LIKEEEE!!!!! my all time favourite is definitely the last of us part 2!!!!!!!!!!!! i am on my like... sixth playthrough on that lmao i'm doing it on grounded so yk wish me luck!!!!! anywayy i ofc like the first one too but man.. the second one hits harder for me tbh. then i really fucking love ghost of tsushima, i'm actually replaying it rn too hehe.
honorable mentions go to rdr2, until dawn, the newest dead space remake, god of war, disco elysium, the resident evil games, assassin's creed (i know a lot of ppl don't like these all that much but idk i think they're really fun!! esp black flag and odyssey)(ok i am biased bc these were like my first games ever lmao), days gone (this is another that most think is rather lame but again.. i think it's really fucking fun i have nothing against it) aaaand death stranding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! aaahh so many games damn i might've forgotten some but these are some that i really love!!!!!!!!!!!! i have played almost all of them multiple times too lmao that's crazy
for overall media i'd just give a lil shoutout to the 'mindhunter' series on netflix!!!!!!!!!!!!! i absolutely fucking looove that show!!!!!!!! i've seen that multiple times too i love the characters and just the way it's done overall!!!!!!!!! also 'manic' i think that's a netflix one too.. that's a really short one but idk it changed me okay i think it's fucking great
OMGG AND WAAAHHH TRUST THAT I STILL HAVE YOUR ASK!!! I AM JUST REALLY SLOW WITH ANSWERING THEM SO I AM VERY SORRY ABT THAT!!!!!!! and you definitely haven't crossed any lines either, so it's one hundred percent on me!!!!!!!!! the thing is that i get a bit overwhelmed when i have to answer things which sounds ridiculous bc I LOOOOVEEEE TALKING TO YOU GUYSSS my brain just sucks okay i'm sorry
#MMMMMMMMMMMMWAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#LOVE VIDEO GAMESSSS#SO MUCHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#could yap abt them for so long actually#kinda held back on another wordvomit there lmao#ANYWAYY U CAN ALWAYS TELL ME MORE ABT ASTARION AND SEPHIROTH THOUGH!!!!!!#they both seem really fucking cool and i do think i'd really like them if i ever got into the games yk#hehehhehee#anywayy sorry again for taking so long nonnie!!!#i hope ur having a good day my love!!!!!#friends!!
detco salt. moonlight sonata remake rant below
forewarning that i am a staunch funi-dub enjoyer and fell in love with this show in the first 50 episodes (and still consider the early show to be superior)
-
broke sequence and watched detco episode 1000/1001 yesterday, and not to be a negative nancy but jfc i think i would've been pissed if i had tuned in to watch that on premiere day.
maybe i set myself up for failure expecting anything more (especially given my very low ceiling for ridiculous anime shenanigans) but for transparency's sake i watched the tubi dub (👎) with my brother, since we grew up watching and loving the funi dub version. ooh man did we think it sucked
remaking moonlight sonata at this stage in detco is only a good idea on paper bc it's sentimental. that's literally all it has going for it though. it didn't hold a candle to the original, not even close, not in translation/writing or voice acting, not in animation or color or background or music direction. it was so so bad, the kind of bad that cuts so deep disappointment turns to insult. rigid and stilted, environments feel sterile and vacant and weirdly huge (this is a uniquely me criticism of modern detco lol, absolutely fuckin MASSIVE environments), all sense of small town superstition and tension are gone, no time is spent even acquainting with narumi and so i felt nothing when his identity and status as the killer is eventually revealed, let alone when he self-immolated. and coming off of that, conan himself barely feels like a character. the funi dub does a stellar job of cementing shinichi as the overarching narrator of the series both in writing and in the decision to dub conan's inner monologue with his "true" voice, so while the tubi dub is already at a disadvantage in that regard there's next to no framing of the situation by him otherwise and it just kind of feels like we're flies on the wall in the most boring way possible. this isn't to say the original, subbed or dubbed, is a masterpiece of high art or anything, it just knows what it wants to do and it does it well enough to get you invested in it. there's a reason it's an iconic case, right? in the remake, you just don't get the sense that conan is invested in the case or moved by any of the ominous circumstances at all. it's so fucking weird because he should be the audience surrogate for these cases and instead it's flat and the opposite of immersive. maybe it's harsh of me to say but dare i say it's incompetent. absolute night and day compared to the original, even if you remove the dub variables.
speakings of dubs. i don't know any japanese so i have no meaningful input as to whether or not the tubi dub is a more """accurate""" translation than the funi dub but i'm firmly of the opinion that 1:1 translations belong exclusively to subs. there's way more at play in a dub than just "accurate translation" and i can't fucking tell you how awful the tubi dub is all around. it's just so wooden. i'm sure the cast are capable actors and the rigid writing was more than bogging them down but every time a name was said i made a face. every time a character spoke like a wired informant i made a new one. have the writers ever heard real people converse with each other before? does whoever was in charge of voice direction know what good performances sound like? nobody talks to each other the way the people in this dub do!! christ on a stick
(as an aside, people have pegged my criticisms of anime shows as 'expecting too much realism' but in my defense [1] detco likes to treat itself as a show that--compared to its other big-name modern shonen counterparts-- exists mostly within the bounds of real-life rules and [2] people talking to each other transcends expectations of realism. the show already expects me to think of it within a certain box and i'll eat my hat if you or other people in your life normally talk to each other like they're wearing a wire, repeating everything that's said to them like someone is on the other side of the glass)
overall verdict 1/10. mid episode for the late 900s/early 1000s era piggybacking mostly off nostalgia and good intentions but horrifically executed outside of that bubble and especially in comparison to its predecessor and the legacy thereof. extremely underwhelming and upsetting thing to put out as a commemorative special. i'm not impressed, but i'm not mad either - i'm just really, really sad
ok dune 2 post. obviously spoilers you know i don't give a shit. there is nothing i can say to you now that could possibly "ruin" your movie going experience should you decide to see dune 2. or maybe there is. i don't care though either you're reading my monster ass post or you're not. but i'm very nice and beautiful and kind so i added a read more <3 just keeping it really niceys <3
FIRST thing i want to say is that men are reacting to these movies in a way that is so diabolically insane to me i don't think i will ever be able to understand the underdeveloped male human brain. that was mean sorry. i hate men though and i think they're less intelligent than normal people. sorry. have you seen what men are saying about dune though. you understand. "it's the greatest triumph of cinema i've ever seen!" like calm down ryan it's dune part two.... we're not talking about the hunger games catching fire rn you can talk about the movie like a normal human being talks about things... yes it was good. it was also only the second best timothee chalamet film released in the past six months... and as i've said. the world at large will forget about dune like two years after the last movie, i'm sorry, but we will... we are not all male sci-fi fanatics peace and love
so what did EYE like about it! well i love zendaya <3 i love zendaya so much, not enough to watch spiderman, but a lot. i lovedd that she had a bigger role in part two (both me and my mom were sooo disappointed at how little she was in part one), and i especially loved how her role provided this point of contest to paul's messiah status, where his mother and stiglar are like, true believers, chani is the skeptic because she knows he's still only a man not a god, because she loves him as a man!!! it was crazy. also they were in crazy beautiful tragic love... (side note we can come back to this later if the need arises. their asses are GOING in the timeless video remake. spent a good ten minutes of the movie's runtime thinking about this fr) i really loved their relationship and their dynamic, idk anything about the books btw i want that out there as a disclaimer now. anyway i loved the drama of their whole thing it was craytown insane. the way he didn't want to go south and solidify his becoming as the people's messiah because he knew that if he became that he would lose her, and ultimately that's exactly what happened... "i will love you as long as i breathe" as his final words to her before enacting this plan to take over from the emperor by marrying the princess... ok that was insane. in many ways this happened to a friend of mine. by the name of. guinevere.... unless you're all here for my gay king arthur theory in which case. in many deeper ways this happened to my friend arthur. but i'm not supposed to talk about that because the people aren't ready. (i do genuinely and truly in my heart of hearts believe that king arthur is gay and i mean it in a way completely divorced from bbc merlin i didn't even want to bring up bbc merlin it makes me so mad how that show corrupted gay king arthur, i don't mean it like that. EYE mean that it's gay as fuck to be a man with an older brother. but we aren't talking about that). basically. kind of a tragedy slay... rooting for them in. deep sigh. movie three.
a thing i DID NOT like was the whole deal with. austin butler. i did not learn his character's name, don't care, he's dead anyway. it's not even that any of it was bad it was just boring. and there was that whole section on him too and i was like ugh this could have been a two minute scene wrap it UP! you may have noticed i was posting while in the theater. yeah i was posting from that section of the movie. because i was BORED. yes there was some vital info in that part, but i also believe it could have been explained in a significantly lesser amount of time!!! me in denis villieneuve's editing room screaming "cut it!!!!" it's boring... i'm sorry... i was bored and i don't care about the harkonnens (? i'm not looking that spelling up) and i don't care that that cult lady "secured his bloodline" by going to his birthday party and seducing him... i don't careeee about the harkonens!!!!
a thing i DID like was rebecca ferguson's deal. she was soooo. i mean she was terrible, of course, insane bitch for real. also i want her so bad but that's not relevant. loved her schemes. love it when a character starts playing god. and she got what she wanted in the end too! was that a good thing? unclear. but god forbid women do anything!
can i say something is this a safe space. i don't care about the worms the way a lot of people seem to care about the fuckin worms... they're cool i guess? but what is with the fascination with the sand worms... i don't get it. i'm gonna leave this point here cuz frankly what more is there to say
there seems to be a disconnect between two camps of people on timmy's actual messiah status in the narrative. i've seen people refer to the character as jesus and i've seen people call him a false prophet, and it all made me so confused i read the entire wikipedia entry for the original dune novel and the article for the larger dune chronicles. and i've come to the conclusion that yes he was literally the ultimate manifestation of powers the bene gesserit were trying to cultivate, and he did become a leader, but i wouldn't be so quick to call him jesus because he's only jesus because the bene gesserit wove their agenda into the religious legends and prophecies of the fremen people to be able to control them through it. so it was kind of all propaganda. but his abilities are very real and he DID want to help the fremen break free from harkonenn persecution. so i wouldn't call him a false prophet. i think the thing with the uh. "water of life" (it's worm piss. it's sand worm piss. it's gatorade blue, straight up fresh from the worm piss. i'm sorry) and he drank it and gave him visions of the future and he was like "i see it all so clearly now" and all that. i think that's real, he can see the futures and he knows he can play an important role and he wants to prevent war (flopped btw) and that's why he leaned into the messiah rhetoric, because it was easy i guess, and the people already believed it. i wouldn't call him evil or corrupt i'd just say he was trying to be realistic through the means he was raised (and remember that his mother raised him for war and power). um it's complicated. do i think there's a jesus metaphor? obviously there is. do i think he's really like. The Messiah? well no, because it's textually true that there was never REALLY a prophesized messiah, it was all just stories put into motion generations before he ever existed. that being said i wouldn't call it fake per se. lot's of interesting stuff is going on here with regards to religion to be honest. does it matter what's real? do we not each control our own perceived reality? does saying it's not real rob the believers of their choice? does it matter that the people were told to believe in him as a way to control them? does it matter that they made the beliefs their own anyway? what is religion? what is god? if i had more time on my hands i'd get deep into dune just to get into arguments online this summer about this shit.
i'd be interested to see how it all unfolds in a third movie, but as i understand that's not a confirmed thing that's happening and frankly i already read the wikipedia article about it so i guess i do already know how it unfolds. but i'll see the eventual movie anyway i guess.
the thing with the "atomics" was wild to me though i was like hey man i do not think a jesus figure would launch atom bombs... but to be fair i think they set those bombs on a mountain? and people were only killed via the rubble? that's obviously still bad i'm aware but i mean. well actually i don't know if that's what happened. the bombs only killed the bad guys though so who gives a shit. sorry. but those bald dudes were creepy i'm sorry they sucked so bad i don't care that a lot of them died in a war that they started. it's a movie. were they atomic bombs though? they called them "atomics" so i did assume they were fucking. oppenheimer atomic bombs. or is this such a distant future that they've advanced technology and undergone so many linguistic changes that words don't mean the same things anymore. i think however that i fully just overthought that. anyway whatever on the bombs i don't wanna talk about bombs
um getting back to my girl chani. "i will love you as long as i breathe" for real she should get to kill him a little bit for all of that shit i am not gonna lie to you. i was reading these wikipedia articles seeing the word "concubine" thinking to myself oh he should die. call me pontius pilate the way i am about to kill this fucking christ figure. i understand it narratively, i get it. i understand that he marries the princess for political reasons but he loves chani i understand that. but i am gonna tell you one thing right now and you need to hear this. cassandra would never pull something like that. and if you wanna talk to ME about an expansive fantasy universe totalling over a dozen books, you are gonna have to go through cassandra there. no one will ever be cassie, not to me, you'll never do the things cassie has done, i don't care who you are i don't care how influential to sci-fi dune is. if you're gonna come to me and be all oh dune was influential for sci-fi, i'm gonna come right back at you and say the shadowhunter chronicles was influential for urban fantasy. there is not a weird middle school girl out there who's life was not affected by cassandra clare. that woman is like a deity to me. i don't care about what men write, SHE is huge to ME. and she would never pull that shit. she would never, and she would rather die. peace and love. i hate men
and you know what let's all back it up for a moment. and when i said. timeless video. oh i meant that, as i said i spent ten minutes just straight up thinking about this comparison. my ultimate conclusion is that paul has the kit herondale swag (but if kit was written by a man. you understand). chani does not so much have ty blackthorn swag but she is kind of a cunt which was good enough for me tbh. the way that like. she was a fremen warrior above everything, even him, was very ty to me though, in the sense that he's a shadowhunter who like, IS a shadowhunter. we have shadowhunters like say, simon, who aren't so much suited to the shadowhunter way of life (because it is an entire way of life, it's not just being a human plus some magic, being a shadowhunter is a whole different class of existence completely unlike ours) but they're a shadowhunter because that's just the hand life dealt them. and then there are shadowhunters who are real, passionate, believing in the cause shadowhunters, and that's gonna be like. isabelle, cordelia, jace, emma. and ty. there are characters who, if they stopped being a shadowhunter they would survive, and there are characters who would not know a way to be without it. (sorry girl gonna interrupt you. this was a dune post? a post about the movie dune part two? um stop rambling about tsc...) ok. basically chani has that drive of caring so much about what she is (fremen) and what she can do. and i love how i gave that a whole paragraph explanation but with paul i just said "yeah he has that kit herondale swag nothin more to say" (sidenote. the audiobook i read the other day has been sticking with me to such an extent that. ok there was one character who i guess was meant to be from new jersey and the narrator was doing this crazy voice for him which was so fun and iconic i have been talking to myself in my head with that voice ever since for real and serious... i get a real kick out of it. and that last sentence pre parentheses was meant to be read in that voice so. imagine an exaggerated sort of goon-like jersey accent)(um just went to the little wiki page for this character to verify the new jersey thing. his dad's from jersey that's not important. under relationships. "they clearly have an abusive relationship" hey now... what fucking. lame fangirl wrote this... they were just homoerotically vibing in a toxic fucked up way... rolling eyes emoji. people didn't understand it...) anyway. um he does have the kit herondale swag. you know. in the simple sense that everybody is telling him he has this Destiny and he really didn't want it. kit would never drink that fuckass worm piss though. actually lie, he might. speaking of the worm piss. not the substance i mean the part of the movie where he almost died from it because it's literally poison and he knew that and drank it anyway. me when i have an exaggerated sense of self worth. me when it's literally poison but i'm different <3 anyway. when chani found him in that coma and jessica was like Only You Can Wake Him because like. some prophecy shit with "tears of the desert spring" and her secret name meant desert spring and she had to cry on him to save him from something she never wanted him to do. and that was effectively the moment that killed their relationship. that was crazy stuff girls...
not much more to say. oh. i must bring up the redacted of it all, of course, i mean naturally. this movie, above all other things i liked about it more than part one, had the added bonus of NOT being "from the ******* edits". watching part one was a constant game of "oh yeah i've seen this one" "classic c****** r***** edit clip!" "oh yeah the hair in his face with a dark expression in his eyes we've all seen it" like it was nice to watch a dune movie that was about dune. you know.
Ranked: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
So in all my franchise devouring, this is definitely one of THE most disappointing series I've covered. To be fair, nothing can touch what watching all the Paranormal Activity movies did to me, and there is more to love here, but this is going to be kinda rough all the same.
Texas Chainsaw 3D : So at bare minimum, most of the movies are genuinely well-made and look good. NOT THIS ONE. This was the cheesiest and most sellout, oddly enough, that the series ever gets. Imagine if TCM was the Friday the 13th 2009 remake with less charm. Now that's some stinky shit right there. The concept is interesting, a long lost Sawyer rediscovering her roots and meeting Leatherface, but the execution is downright dumb. It makes it so there are no heroes and no villains and everyone's just a gray lump. A notion that a movie with better production values maybe could handle. But that ain't this. Oh, and Leatherface looked like total shit, which is the only time I can honestly say that of this series. Even the bad entries get that basic part right.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) : What was I just saying about no heroes, no villains, just gray blobs that get turned into tomato bisk? Yeah, that. I don't quite know what the point is of making a film with intensely politically charged talking points and making every character be in the wrong, but I can tell you what it makes. A MESS. Where if you root for someone, chances are they'll do something awful, stupid, backwards, or go against their own principles at some point. This is probably the goriest entry, but who gives a damn? Gore is supposed to serve a story or characters (or ideally both) that you care about. Without that, it's corn syrup.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning : So... this is a prequel to the 2003 remake. About a quarter of the way through, I found myself going, wait. I thought they said in the previous movie this is the first time anyone ever made it out alive to report the murders... YEP. A prequel where it was preordained there will be no survivors. So they made sure to make everyone very thinly written so you wouldn't be too worried about that. The main thumbs up I have here is that it's one of my favorite Leatherface designs of the entire series. Otherwise, it's easily skipped.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation : The reputation this movie has is a bit off in my opinion. It's starting to get "so bad, it's good" cred. Yes, there are things about it that I would say fit that description. Particularly Matthew McConaughey's performance. All the over-the-top acting in general. But at the end of the day, the movie plays all of its extremely weird gags very straight. So the tone is dead serious while we introduce such non-TCM concepts as the illuminati. And it turns out, no, this isn't a comedy. The cocreator of the entire franchise was absolutely sincere. It shows, and it really brings the fun way down. It's ridiculous and way out in left field, but it doesn't mean for you to laugh. Yikes.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) : We're finally in watchable territory. And yet when I say that... The last half hour just becomes what it always is for these movies. A girl screaming non-stop while chased or tortured, and after several rounds of that, you start to check out. I've also never seen a final girl fuck up her own escape as much as this one does. Also, and this goes for TCM: The Beginning too, R. Lee Ermey is one of the most one-note, overrated actors I've ever seen, and his presence here is not helpful in making me enjoy the film. Otherwise, this is serviceable if TCM is your thing.
Leatherface (2017) : Of the later sequels/remakes/prequels, this is pretty fun. Imagine, a TCM movie having fun with the premise. Trying something different. With an origin story that wants you to guess which character will be our big ole chainsaw boy. While him turning out to be the least likely suspect might put some people off, I thought the transformation was pretty dang cool. There's a lot of strong acting going on here from Lili Taylor and Stephen Dorff. The absolutely wild girl with the burn scars was a welcome addition to rather a lot of nutty characters, so it's a real feat she managed to make herself stand out. Overall, a stronger film than I could have hoped for that late in the game.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (OG) : WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT'S NOT NUMBER ONE!? I mean, it's not. Not for me. I find this movie to be a pretty difficult sit. There are a lot of tiresome and forgettable characters. Our villains are loud and annoying. But the grit this was filmed with, the determination to get it made, the messages that lie underneath, and the character of Leatherface all shine through. It's an important film that ushered in a new era of horror, so while I don't find it that watchable, I deeply respect it.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 : This is the movie The Next Generation wishes it was. Tobe Hooper decided he could never follow the first film, so he decided to make a parody of his own work. Genius. It's hilarious, disgusting, lurid, wild, and extremely fitting with the decade it was made in. Stretch is by far my favorite final girl in the series. Dennis Hopper knew exactly what movie he was in. And the soundtrack is great, too.
Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3 : Sorry. Yeah, I'm sorry. But I love this one best. You've got Ken Foree kicking ass. You have Viggo Mortensen serving cunt. The Sawyer family actually manages to feel like a loving and supportive family in a twisted way, which is a trope I love. They realized they can't up the ante when Hooper has already set the bar so high, so they don't try. They make ridiculous fights, silly dialogue, and have fun. Fun is always the biggest component for me as to whether or not a film will be a winner. So uh... winner winner, chicken dinner?
Thus my journey ends. I want to add that aside from that dead last entry, even when I didn't love whatever movie I happened to be watching, they did right by Leatherface. He's one of those Jason-y slashers that you want to hug, because he probably deserves better than being used like an attack dog by his own family. I always enjoyed watching him, and every actor brought a different physicality and presence. So, no, I didn't hate every second. And if Leatherface seems intriguing to you as a character, you'd definitely get something out of going over this franchise, too.
hey does this work? can I actually post now? geez it felt like forever trying to get this software to work on 'nami's phone. even got speech to text to work, dope
now i gotta actually show her how to use it all... shit
you about done? it's been an hour, that's how long you said it'd take
yeah yeah yeah, i'm done, where'd you find this stuff anyway? looks like some sort of human version of [TRANSLATION ERROR]
huh, guess the translation doesn't have a word for [TRANSLATION ERROR]
heheh, 's kinda fun [TRANSLATION ERROR]
anyway, Ika found an old device in Alterna. mostly wanted to see what you could do with it, or even what it was
that's what i figured. kid's good at diggin' stuff up, almost too good
that all you wanted? it should work on your phone, and the translators should be able to let you read anything you find
got it, thanks dude
sooooo....... how long should we go without seeing you before we should worry?
what do you mean?
they mean your obsession with human relics and culture love. I'll check on her occasionally, Four, don't worry, I won't let her go without food for multiple days again
ONE TIME, I get caught up in my work ONE TIME, and you two are convinced i need supervision all of a sudden
you didn't eat or sleep for a week. also hey Eight
i was on a roll! you can't get in the way of art
starvation can and will. just put it down every now and again and no one will have an issue
but like it's so interesting and cool how much their culture looks like ours and the ruins and their tech and stuff. don't you want to know more?
no I think I know enough thanks
there you are, kid. here's the thing i got the software from, weird little gadget, looks eerily like a phone
but that's what I mean! why do our phones look so much like theirs!?
i don't think you need the answer, watching you wonder is funny. also Four i think i broke my headset again
seriously? would you stop using your mantle as a landing pad? give it here, I'll see what I can do. remake it with something sturdier maybe
not my fault it hits the ground first. i just have such big brains that i'm top-heavy
false. it's probably the opposite because you got brain damage every time. let me know if anything goes weird with the real time speech to text translation stuff, 'nami
wait has that been running this whole time? shit it has
it looks like it works well though. it can even understand my [TRANSLATION ERROR] well, mostly i suppose
nothing but the best from me, heheh. there are some things that appear to not have a human language equivalent and it gets confused. not much avoiding that 'specially with incomplete records
do you think we could talk to them with this?
if they were still around. I'm surprised that the servers seem to still be functional in the first place
i'll bet it's time travel, i'll bet we can, i’ll bet Four opened some kind of spacetime rift with captain’s phone
that's stupid
would explain a thing or two though
the fuck are you? wait a second what are you doing in my house?!
unimportant. also i have no idea
you don't know who you are?
no ma’am, i just don't know how i'm here. but while I am might as well take part in the conversation, y’know?
okaaay? I guess we'll worry about that another time
well if you are from whenever this place is relevant and seeing it somehow, say something i guess
I want to prove Four wrong about the whole time travel thing too so you’d better y’hear?
played today for about 8 hours - my most coherent thought: WE'RE SO FUCKING BACK
im legit having so much fun my every waking thought is consumed by this game which is unfortunately as due to The Circumstances i cannot SPEND every waking moment playing this game. i am in agony but we stay silly.
(there will be spoilers for the start of the game up until post darvin recruitment below)
i love my rook - sometimes i wish they could be a bit more of a shit but im viewing it as the chaotic good au of my very chaotic neutral oc i decided to make my first rook. i think this will stand out less on a further playthrough where im playing a rook that i made for veilguard instead of an existing character who is best known for being an absolute wanker. this is also what i have stand and de riva (working title) for, as the antivan crows need to understand what a little shit they recruited. i also did tear up a little bit when they could literally say they were trans like. in as many words. that was so huge. theyre also GOREGEOUS i struggled a bit with cc at first and made what is canonically a 6'3 man tiny and had to go back after the start and totally remake them in the mirror but i actually like them better the second time lmaoooo a wins a win
game is fucking beautiful absolutely 10/10 every single environment is gorgeous and so are all the companions. feys hair is so bouncy when they run i am transfixed by it. d'meta's crossing was fucking hideous in a very good way and everything is so stunning. my pc is doing its level best and while we did crash once it seems to be running smoothly otherwise (apparently an ogre and rain physics is too much but the DRAGON runs fine. go figure)
the sound i made when dorian rocked up was not one from a rational human. that's my HUSBAND RIGHT THERE and hes GOREGEOUS. anyone saying he looks ugly is such a fucking coward thats the most fuckable late 30s man in thedas. i adore his stupid facial hair its so Him. i also gave my inquisitor a stupid mullet i like to think they are at an impasse where dorian will shave only when mahanon gets a reasonable haircut. theyre so husbands yall.
SPEAKING OF MAHANON i almost cried in the cc yall. getting to make him again and seeing him older and maybe-not-wiser and hearing the inquisition music in the bg.... wish we got a few more choice about him but ill live with it as it isnt his story anymore. im nervous for him to show up but im probably going to scream and cry about it in equal measure. anyway hes hot even with his stupid mullet. im so delighted we get to see him againta
literally in love with all the companions - fey is my planned lucanis romance bc im LITERALLY OBSESSED WITH HIM and have been since pregame and that has not changed but im SO excited to see everyone elses romances on my subsequent playthroughs - bellara is exactly what i wanted for my shadow dragon rook and she was their planned romance. also very excited for harding and the weirdo that is the mourn watches very own crypt baby cessair and for neve and her thembo boyfriend mordred the veiljumper but im also not sure if i can ever abandon treviso :((((( like i agree with lucanis there even without the romance minrathous HAS A WHOLEASS FLOATING SECURITY SYSTEM and youre telling me that did jackshit??? so we'll see how the neve romance goes lmao
ill probably post some screenshots of my rook tomorrow thats my favourite little fuck <3 im having so much fun and i dont even have all the companions yet i cannot wait to see how this all plays out and then do it over and over and over again
