I forgot to take a before picture, but if you're ever wondering if parenting really does change you on a deep molecular level, consider that I carefully detangled and restored this alarmingly pink object meant to be pinned into the hair of a doll, when I spent my own childhood scorning all dolls and all years from teenage to thirties talking mild shit about them, not because my child would throw a fit if it was ruined (she didn't notice) but because the doll needs to look.
