230393527: Cloudline Solutions: Computers in Education
Innovation in Computer Technology has a profound impact on teaching, especially with technology advancing over the years. Today, it forms part of the school curriculum as it is an essential part of every individual today. With that being said, Computers in Education remarkably plays a role in the career development of young children.
If you got a strong computer background, so you studied a computing degree such as Information Systems or Computer Science, there is a massive skill shortage at the moment in our schools for people with that background.
A society report highlighted that only 33-34% of IT or CAT teachers in High Schools have a degree specializing in that field. If you are a subject specialist and you have the subject knowledge, you can create some really and truly inspiring and engaging lessons for learners: You can see by how the pupils who ask questions where you can take the learning into different directions.
It's not as some people describe previously, a subject that is just about teaching packages-- IT'S REALLY NOT. It's about concepts and principles.
Initially when I started doing Computer Application Technology in High School, I found that we learned ICTs which is about the teaching of packages in the sense of desktop publishing, Word and maybe a bit of video editing here and there.
Over the last few years, we have moved towards computing and that's about looking at how things work, and when I took how things work, we are talking about computational thinking, breaking things down and then trying to rebuild learners a model to help them understand, looking for patterns, looking at how one problem may have similar characteristics to another problem and then how you can reuse solutions between the two problems.
Many teachers AND stakeholders are naive because new and advanced technologies enable learners to improve their study methods, have quick access to correspondence and information and data. However, educating learners on screen management and using computers wisely, is a essential part of teaching Information Technology, or Computer Application Technology.
Like I stated above, many teachers have less experience than what schools wanted for this role as a computer teacher. How would you, putting your feet in their role, compensate for that? And what would you recommend students about internet safety and how would you educate them on digital footprint? Please do not hesitate to comment your thoughts :)

At this point, I don't really care about high school anymore. All I'm going to do is aim for the bare minimum in all my subject areas. Considering that I'm nearly finished anyway, in grade 11/lower 6, it should be okay I guess xD I mean, all I really need to do is make C's and I would've scored satisfactory. I don't care anymore about doing well, I shouldn't, as in my opinion, the majority of what I'll be doing in high school will not come in handy in the slightest. Like, what'll I even be doing with Literature in the future? Or History? Or even the sciences? All I really wanna do is just get a normal, stable job, get money, and immigrate to somewhere peaceful. What would I even need these stupid subjects for anyway? And another thing, it's so irritating how I can't work on the things that'll ACTUALLY help me achieve my goals BECAUSE of school. Computing is my field, yet I didn't get selected to do ICT. That's so annoying. Who cares, I guess. I only have a year of this hell left anyway. Can't wait till I FINALLY graduate and leave this hellhole once and for all...................
Everyone wants to see me graduate. I'm not going to attend. Why would I, if I didn't even want to return after my grade 10/form 5 graduation. It'd be a slap in the face for me. Wasted effort. Wasted money I could've put into my career instead. Sorry. But I'm not interested. And never will be interested in attending another graduation ceremony.

Medals don't matter
Emails to mum
plz
"Medals don't matter": when Johnny Shepard-Itō was 7 years old he had a fever, so without thinking twice his father called in sick to the ceremony where he was supposed to get a medal of recognition or something (haven't weed out all the details) and stayed home to take care of his son. Hannah (his then wife and Johnny's mother) is much more career and adept with internal politicking, and was scolding Hiroshi for skipping it. Hiroshi brushed it off, knowing what mattered more to him. Later on Johnny injures himself saving a stray cat right before one of his martial arts (BJJ) tournaments and his dad uses it as a teachable moment that medals don't matter, doing the right thing even when it's hard does matter. Something to that effect. It's still an ongoing WIP/backstory piece that I might use as a flashback or something.
"So you missed it? Last night's ceremony?" Mom sounded incredulous. His dad grunted in the affirmative. Johnny burrowed a little more into the thin cotton quilt draped over his lap, couch cushions swallowing him more. "Hiroshi, you can't just skip medal ceremonies! My god! It's like you're allergic to recognition. What did you even say to get out of it?"
"Didn't say anything. Used a personal day."
"Used a– *Hiroshi*." Muffled chatter came over the connection on his Mom's side followed by a sigh. "I've got to run, but we'll pick this up next time I'm on leave."
"Medals don't matter, Hannah." Dad's quiet grumble of a voice grew a little closer and he leaned over the back of the couch, phone screen popping down in front of his face displaying Mom's face. "Say goodbye to Johnny at least."
"Goodbye, Love." She smiled widely, copper hair gleaming in that tight bun she always wore with her uniform.
Johnny knuckled his eyes and smiled back. "Jya ne, Kaa-chan."
Her smile fell a little. "Johnny, in English, please. You know I don't speak Japanese."
"Sorry Mom, bye mom. I miss you, when are you coming home?"
Her lips rolled into a tight line, and her eyes glanced off screen at another murmur of noise. "Love, I'll be back before you know it. And with some cool surprises I picked up for you. You just need to be patient a little longer. Focus on school and your next tournament. Get the best grades and win that trophy while I'm gone and I'll be so excited to come home and celebrate!"
Dad cleared his throat loudly, making him jump and then laugh before knuckling his eyes again.
"Right, gotta run. Others are waiting for the comm. Love you! See you soon!"
The screen blacked out and Dad tucked the phone back in his pocket with a gusty sigh. A big hand suddenly cupped his forehead with a tsk of his tongue. Dad spoke in Japanese, even though Mom had just scolded him for speaking it.
"Still hot. Almost a full day now. Headache?"
"Better."
"Good. Hungry?"
"No…"
"Oh? That so? Not even for… fried udon?"
"I didn't say that!" Johnny grinned brightly and tipped his head back to look up at him.
"Mmmm… maybe you'd rather have caterpillar pie."
"Nooo!"
Dad flashed his white teeth in a fake snarl and hoisted him up, blanket and all. He giggled as he found himself swung up over his shoulder and carried into the kitchen where all the ingredients were already waiting beside the skillet.
"Or maybe worms instead?"
"No, noodles!"
"Worms are kind of like noodles."
"Daaaaad!"
Dad chuckled, raspy in his ear and warm in his belly.
"Emails to Mom" is 24 year old Johnny email correspondence WIP for Rivaling You's prologue, which takes place during his ICT post Torfan. In this particular WIP he's detailing a series of ridiculous dreams he's had. One involves not drinking and driving a whale. Heh, dream logic be crazy.

WHAT IS STEM?
Tumblr media
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math, and it emphasizes on students' creativity, problem-solving abilities, and critical thinking (Muniz 2023). These four categories combine to form a skill set that guides our thoughts and actions. in senior high school, the STEM strand strives to strengthen students problem-solving, communication, and curiosity skills (Studyusa,2022). It also prepares you for in-demand careers such as science and engineering. In today's digital era, there is a greater investment in professions in technological innovation and advancement (OEd, 2021).
Tumblr media
Life as a STEM Student
Tumblr media
My favorite memory of being a student is from high school. This was the realization that life was full of mysteries. This experience showed me that life isn't only about happiness and sadness, but that these two feelings will always be a part of me. All of the hardships I've faced have shaped me into the person I am today. Today I’m now a Grade 11 STEM student and taking another step towards success and I’m gonna tell you my 2 month experience as a STEM student.
I entered Capiz National High School’s Senior High School because of the promises made by the Principal and Teachers of science department that there will be an enhancement program for us. Senior High School itself was a culture shock to me because of its descriptive subject names, teachers, and its grading systems. Terrifying and strict were my first impression I had to most of my teachers assigned for us. I always said to my self that they are just doing it to prepare us for college. However, many weeks passed and I really get to know them better I realized that they are not that strict but they just want us to always do our best and be a better professional in the future.
Only 2 months had passed since S.Y 2023-2024 started but it is already full of memories. Time passes quickly, so cherish every single day, hour, minute, and second you have. My two-month adventure as a Grade 11 STEM student taught me a lot of things that I can apply in my daily life. "Malayo pa pero malayo na" There are numerous obstacles and problems to conquer, but we are too far along to give up.
Tumblr media
Why Choose STEM strand?
Tumblr media
STEM strand do not just teach you about Science and Technology but it also teaches you lifelong skills that you need in your life. STEM education stimulates critical thinking by engaging students in actively analyzing, evaluating, and applying knowledge to solve problems. This approach prepares them for future challenges where logical reasoning and problem-solving skills are paramount (Science, 2023). A study conducted by the researchers of Pangasinan State University titled A Comparative Study of the Academic Performance of STEM and Non-STEM Graduates in College and Advanced Algebra that findings revealed that STEM students had higher academic performance compared to non-STEM with an average grade of 1.75 and 2.14, respectively. The findings of the Research proves that mostly of STEM graduates do better in college.
STEM is significant because it affects every aspect of our life. It is a curriculum designed to educate students in four distinct areas using an interdisciplinary and practical approach rather than teaching the four sciences as distinct curriculum. Science is everywhere in the world around us. Technology is constantly entering every part of our daily lives. Engineering is not only concerned with the fundamental designs of roads and bridges, but also with the issues of changing global weather and ecologically friendly modifications to our environment. Mathematics is present in every career and activity we engage in throughout our life (Abad, 2020). These are the reasons why STEM is the greatest option, especially if the area you want to study in college is Medicine, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or ICT.

STEM education has become more than just an acronym; it's a transformative approach to learning that opens doors to exciting career opportunities and a deeper understanding of the world around us. In this blog post, we'll delve into what STEM is and its significance, particularly in the context of high school education.
Stem stands for Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. an umbrella term used to group together the distinct but related technical disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.STEM education also provides a platform to introduce problem-based learning, cooperative learning, expand problem-solving capabilities, and introduce students to the use of engineering design.STEM is an educational program developed to prepare primary and secondary students for college, graduate study and careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). In addition to subject-specific learning, STEM aims to foster inquiring minds, logical reasoning and collaboration skills.STEM in higher education teaches students to think critically, prepares them for careers and creates professionals that can work across scientific disciplines to solve challenging problems.
In the Philippines, STEM is a two-year program and strand that is used for Senior High School (Grades 11 and 12), assigned by the Department of Education or DepEd. The STEM strand is under the Academic Track, which also includes other strands like ABM, HUMSS, and GAS. The purpose of the STEM strand is to educate students in the field of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, in an interdisciplinary and applied approach, and to give students advanced knowledge and application in the field. After completing the program, the students will earn a Diploma in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. In some colleges and universities, they require students applying for STEM degrees (like medicine, engineering, computer studies, etc.) to be a graduate of STEM, if not, they will need to enter a bridging program.
In Senior High School, STEM courses cover a range of subjects. Biology explores life sciences, chemistry focuses on matter and reactions, physics delves into the laws of the universe, and mathematics encompasses algebra, calculus, geometry, and statistics. Computer science introduces programming, while environmental science addresses ecological concerns. Engineering and design offer problem-solving skills, astronomy explores celestial objects, and geology covers Earth sciences. High schools may also provide specialized courses like robotics, biotechnology, and health sciences, catering to specific STEM interests and preparing students for future careers in these fields. There are lots of Courses you can take if you took Stem Strand in Senior High School such as BS Nursing which is Science related, BS Entertainment and Media Computing, an ICT related course, BS Chemical Engineering, BS Applied Mathematics which is about Mathematics and Engineering and many more courses are offered if you took STEM as your strand.
STEM has a lot of benefits to students:
