I fucking LOATHE the proliferation of pop psychology in our current zeitgeist that has watered down the understanding and meaning of these actual psychological terms, leading to their misuse and abuse. I hate how these concepts are reduced to simplistic and contextless definitions that can be applied to almost every NORMAL human interaction, in cutesy and digestible, short social media posts (Instagram, Tiktok, Twitter), in trendy sayings, etc. I especially fucking hate how this shallow understanding lets people weaponize "therapy speech" to use against others to label them as "abusers" and to armchair diagnose them, also as another weapon. Beyond people using pop psychology as an excuse/weapon to be shitty to each other, it also enables abusers by giving them another tool in their arsenal to use and help them gaslight their victims! (And SO much of this misunderstanding stems from huge accounts: not just unqualified normies but also psychologists/therapists who should know better, but I digress.)
For other people like me who have been (falsely) accused of being abusive/an abuser and were feeling bad about it, this post helped me see SO much in understanding actual abuse:
And a lot of these bastardized definitions are ableist and centered around neurotypical societal norms' definition of what is "acceptable"...which leads to even more shaming and ostracization of neurodivergent people and their behavior, like autists and ADHDers (e.x.: being direct and straightforward/blunt in your enthusiasm for someone in the beginning of a relationship is NOT LOVE BOMBING!). Check the replies of this post for the excellent discussion there.
Love bombing is not a euphemism for "too much affection too soon," or "high desire for contact."
"Love bombing" is a term originally used in the context of cults to describe a deliberate and coordinated recruitment method that involved feigning friendship and interest in a potential recruit, via flattery, flirtation, physical affection, and very directed positive attention to everything the recruit says in order to lure them into the cult.
Since cults and abusive relationships operate in similar ways and use similar tactics, love bombing in an interpersonal relationship looks like manufacturing closeness in order to trap someone into a relationship in which the abuser has all the control.
And I know these days there's a million bullshit junky articles out there that make you think this is a symptom of cluster b personality disorders, but there is no way for you to be love bombing somebody without realizing it.
If you are an affectionate person and the level of affection and attention you give makes someone uncomfortable, you are not "accidentally" abusing them.
If you are uncomfortable with the level of affection and attention someone is paying you, they are not de facto abusing you.
Love bombing is about using someone's desire for human connection to fast track them into a situation you control and will feel disinclined to leave.
#abuse#love bombing#fave#one of those posts I'm gonna reblog over and over as a reminder 🥲🥲🥲#op thank you soooo much for posting this#for real thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!!! the proliferation of pop psychology esp on sites like Psychogy Today is a DISEASE#Thank you Naggy for reblogging this on your blog......God really loves me what are the chances I find exactly what I need to hear#about this abuse situation BOTH TIMES I've dusted off this app and checked it again 🥲🥲🥲🥲#my extremely abusive former best friend wrote a (not even thinly veiled) tirade against me by dictating the definition of love bombing#and then waxing on and on about how she was SUCH a victim of her 'Love Bombing abuser' (capitalizing Love Bombing like it's a#mf Pokemon move) and how she was soooo abused and it was because she was such a KIND and NAIVE person in her generosity#all bc i'm “”“”“super kind/loving”“”“” as an abuse tactic.....lmfao#and she got and proudly sourced her definition of Love Bombing from.......the motherfucking Cleveland Clinic aka a hospital network with#0 psych branches as if it were a reputable and authoritative source......lol#and she did all this......in a MF GOODREADS REVIEW!!!!!! LMFAOOOOOOOOO YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS SHIT UP!!!!#yes she said that sadly love bombers can unintentionally love bomb and be abusive without knowing. source?? cleveland clinic lol#thanks again op for reassuring me 💖#and then she ended it on a moral high horse with a condescending “good luck to all those learning to self-heal and set boundaries!”#it was a “”book review“” of a completely unrelated pop psychology “”“boundaries”“” workbook she still had only 22% read on lol.......#ohhhhh the -5000000^50000000 un self awareness......

Was Britannicus a bastard, changeling, fake child, or something more sinister? (dun dun dun) (according to Nero)
All my information is coming from "Suet. Ner. 7.1: Britannicum subditivum" by Michael B. Charles. Pls pls pls read that if you want to hear what I'm going to say except 5000000 times more educated and detailed. This is just a little summary of what he said.
In Suetonius Nero 7, it is said that Nero tried to convince Claudius that Britannicus was "subditivus," after Britannicus deadnamed him (ancient Rome was a wild place). If you search it up in a dictionary, subditivus means stuff like substituted, counterfeit, spurious, fake, and other things along those lines. But, in this context, what exactly is it supposed to mean? That Britannicus is a bastard? That Britannicus isn't a human? That Britannicus is an imposter?
Unfortunately, we don't really know the exact meaning! If you look at how subditivus was most commonly used in other texts, you would be inclined to think that Britannicus is fake, supposititious, an imposter (though still a person! Just, not the real real Britannicus. Not the Britannicus Claudius believes him to be. Swapped at birth or something) and this is the most common interpretation, at least in English translations of this passage.
If you look more at the context, you'd likely be thinking that Nero was questioning Britannicus' legitimacy, saying that Brit wasn't actually Claudius' son. Interestingly, we actually question that even today! I personally say that we'll never know, but there are people out there who have much stronger opinions on this than I do. The most concerning theory I've found is that Caligula was Britannicus father (!?).
All in all, no matter the exact meaning Suetonius wanted to convey here, the big idea was that Nero was trying to convince Claudius that Britannicus was not what Claudius thought he was. However, Nero did not mean that Britannicus wasn't a real child, or that Britannicus was a changeling in the exact way we Tumblrites think when we hear that word.
Again, I really recommend you read the actual article because he says it much better then I ever could, plus you can see all the juicy details and stuff.

You mentioned Chaucer??? Frickin love that man pls tell me all about his influences on modern fiction
(PS thank you for taking my silly little science quiz)
YES OKAY
so the thing about Chaucer that I find so fascinating is that he was Shakespeare before Shakespeare was Shakespeare. Which doesn't make any sense, but like, stay with me here. Like high school English teachers love ol Willy Shakes soooooo much for like inventing words and making dick jokes artistic, but its time we admitted that Chaucer did it first. Like, he's the entire reason that novels aren't written like academia. Literally any time you read a book where the narrators personality/vernacular comes through in the narration, Chaucer made that possible.
And a lot of people don't appreciate that enough, which i get because like he wrote in Middle English, and we don't understand it. its the same way high schoolers don't get the sex jokes in Shakespeare? Because they have no idea whats going on. But Chaucer specifically wrote in the commoners' Middle English (bc the people telling the tales were commoners) and it CHANGED THE SHAPE OF LITERATURE FOREVER
also Shakespeare loved Chaucer, so like, he deserves partial credit for everything Shakespeare did. To Me.
ALSO THE PARDONER WAS GAY IM NOT ACCEPTING CRITICISM FOR IT AT THIS TIME . FIRST QUEER VILLAIN IN FICTION HISTORY.... he's my best friend. be gay, steal money from Christians. Its always morally correct. (/j)
#ask az#I love the Canterbury tales I have a copy where its written in Middle English on one page and Modern English in the other#I've read it like 5000000 times#also you're welcome!!!#sorry I'm stupid

😅🎢💌❌🎯🦅👐😬🥰 for the ask game!
(omg yay hi thanks for asking!!!)
😅: uh... am i allowed to say all my works for other fandoms? lol, ok i'm kidding mostly. every time i leave a hyperfixation i get an ick for whatever content i've created, so probably that! so if you see my writing for hsmtmts or merlin... no you don't
🎢: oooh my wildest ride... honestly, in terms of writing and reading, i think everything changes (what a shame) and i'll find a new place to be from win this honor. the writing process for these fics was a blur. and then like. the plots were literally "gay roadtrip" and "gay apocalypse" so that was a wild ride.
💌: i LOVE comments, and i am the worst at responding back to them, but i read every single one of them and cry a lot (not actually, i'm not a big crier, but the emotions are there)
❌: cheating. next question!
🎯: hahahaha ok my friend haven got pretty damn close to guessing the end of my current wip, which i will not be sharing here sorrrryy
🦅: nice mix of both, i'd say!
👐: a snippet of a wip? ofc!
all of you "mike gets kidnapped" s5 fans where you at
😬: hm, honestly? none of them come to mind in particular. i mean, i don't necessarily want my loved ones reading my fics, but there's none i'd single out and be like "NO DON'T READ IT"
🥰: I LOVE READER INTERACTION SO MUCH. look ok ok, confession time: i hate how the only functionality of communicating on ao3 is to comment back because then it makes the fic look like it has 5000000 comments, and it hurts my brain looking at that on my own fics. (i'm weird, i apologize). but when people come into my tumblr asks, I GET SO EXCITED. so this is my psa that if you ever have a question for me and you dropped it into a comment, COME SAY HI OVER HERE OK
(for the emoji ask game!)

PLEASE READ!
here's the entire story of my financial situation.
My mom and I lived together for the past 3 years. Since January, her income decreased significantly and she asked me to step in and pay more bills in return for her allowing me to continue to live with her after she'd went through my phone and found out I was gay.
Her income got even lower and I became the breadwinner of the house. I was new to taking care of a 3 person household and in short, I got sick and didn't make enough to keep us afloat. We got put out in July. That's my fault. We were homeless.
In order for us to be able to afford the deposit for the one room studio we were staying in, I took out a payday loan. I now owe almost $400 on that payday loan and the amount keeps climbing daily. I didn't know any better. I was the only person with enough income to even take a loan, so I thought I had to.
I got a job at a certain us big box retailer that I won't mention (social media rules) and I made decent money. But, it was seasonal and now I have to find another job. Until then, I have no clue how to support this family. I'm on my own, supporting a grown woman and her child.
For the time being, I don't know how to divorce myself from my mom. If I leave, she and my sister will be left up the creek without a paddle, and I cant bear to see them like that. Besides, I'll have to pay for a place to stay anyways, so I pay for it. Because if I don't pay for it, me and my baby sister will be sleeping outside in the cold. We've had to do it before, and it was not pleasant.
The only reason we have a bed to sleep in and we're not outside sleeping in below freezing temps is because of the kind people on this site. I cannot overstate the urgency of our situation.
I now know personally, that sleeping in a bed is a privilege, having heat and air is a privilege, not being rained on or even having a pb&j sandwich to eat or a blanket to sleep under is a privilege. Knowing that you can exist safely in your home is a privilege. Many of these things i would not have if it weren't for the generosity of so many of you. I live in a 12x12ft room with two other people and sleep at the foot of the bed but every time I am miraculously able to pay for another day's rent I want to kiss the floor.
In order to continue to have a roof over our head, I have to pay $30 a day. Paying for a week is cheaper, only $120, but rarely do I have enough for that, so with prorate fees and surcharges and accumulated late fees, I often end up paying $210+ per week. I've had to dish out $400 for one week.
I've made and reblogged this post 5000000 times, but this is honestly the only thread keeping me hanging on for another day. I apologize for being so annoying, but I have to try my absolute best to provide for my family (namely my sister, who deserves better than this) and if I have to beg and humiliate myself on the internet then so be it.

P.S. please know, that a reblog does not go unnoticed. A donation, no matter how small does now go unnoticed. I truly appreciate everything. 💖👊
P.P.S. Here is my sister she is adorable and I love her more than the moon loves the stars also i just want to show her off
