The Diary of Feyre Archeron Ch 5
Tumblr media
This is just a tiny little chapter to wrap some questions up I had for myself because I am planning somewhat of a timejump next. Hope you enjoy! The whole fic is on AO3
Words: 603
TW: mentions of death and house fire
Newspaper article, August 1st
House fire in Dunmere kills three sisters
On the night of the first of August emergency services were alerted about a fire at the Archeron estate, Dove Lane 301. Three sisters died in the fire. Nesta Archeron (18), Elain Archeron (17) and Feyre Archeron (15). Experts say that the sisters must have already been dead at the time help arrived as only remains were found to identify the three young women.
The source of the fire is still being investigated but the police already released a statement that the fire estimatedly is not suspicious.
A tragedy hits the Archeron’s again as first the father of the three sisters, Conrad Archeron (45) has been arrested for various financial crime in May and the mother, Mary Archeron (41) has died of a stroke only three days prior to this accident.
Excerpt from a chat between Nesta and Elain Archeron on October 30th
2:16pm Elain: She's listening to the new Taylor Swift album. That's good, right?
2:17pm Nesta: 1989?
2:17pm Elain: yes
2:19pm Nesta: it's better than her listening to all too well again
Excerpt from Nesta Archerons diary
December 21st
I'm worried about Feyre Clare. We thought we just had to give her time to adjust but she has lost a lot of weight in the past three months because she barely eats and the dark circles under her eyes tell me she barely sleeps, too. She goes to work, at the restaurant down the road, comes home and locks herself in her room. Elain Daisy told me she heard Clare crying a few days ago while I was away tutoring.
Daisy even made Clare her favorite cake for her birthday today but she only picked at it before locking herself in her room again.
I am thankful for Rhy Clare’s friend, that he helped us to safety but I could throttle that man for breaking my sister's heart.
Excerpt from Elain Archerons diary
January 18th
I've been working today, helping a lovely, elderly woman with her garden and when I walked home I saw Clare through a window sitting in a Café. She didn't look happy but for once she didn't look devastated, either and she was eating something. I couldn't get a good look at what she was eating, it looked like a crossaint, but at least she was eating something.
I really hope she's recovering from the heartbreak she went through. I know first hand how badly heartbreak hurts after Grayson, I'll be there if Clare wants to talk.
Maybe she'll even eat dinner with us tonight!
Nesta Mara never was the best at expressing feelings or affection, thanks to our mother, but the past months she really tried with Clare. Getting her favorite meal when we could afford it, watching her favorite movie or even putting on her favorite artist while eating.
Clare has shown very little reaction, I'm not even sure she recognized all these little acts of kindness.
First we thought Clare was in shock but since we stepped into the train, she's been nothing but a shell of her old self.
Neither Mara nor me have realized how much we missed Clare’s antics until they were gone.
Excerpt from a chat between Feyre Archeron and Nesta Archeron on March 13th
1:56am Feyre: are you awake?
1:56am Nesta: yes, why?
1:58am Feyre: I'm hungry. Do you want to get a snack with me?
1:59am Nesta: sure, we still have leftover lasagna
2:00am Feyre: cupcakes, too?
2:00am Nesta: of course, Daisy left some for you edited

Jeeen baby if you need a shield from weird people I'll take care of it 🥹🫶💗🙏
Did you see new suchwita ep dropped? 🥳🙌
Ahhh look, it feels a bit funny since I kinda made my peace with the whole album thing. As long as he's happy with his decisions at the end of the day there's that. I've been thinking about how we can't always know everything that goes on behing the doors right? Idk if you've seen bang pd's interview a few days ago, he mentioned how, at the begining of the year jk wasn't even sure he wanted to release an album (and if I remember he even told us himself in a live that he's not sure about his plans but he'll just follow his intuition) Maybe he thought we would be disappointed if he didn't. Now if you think about it, this second chapter for bts feels sooo rushed in a way and we know why, but you know... I'm trying to imagine that things wouldn't have been so chaotic if it wasn't for m.s. and everything, they would've had way more time for this. But there's really no point.
BUT AGAIN, we all know how jk specifically mentioned in so many interviews over the past few years that he's working on his mixtape (Stay was supposed to be in his mixtape, so was Your eyes tell) and I BET there were some other masterpieces there and it really got me thinking why would he change his mind all of a sudden. Maybe pressure, maybe he didn't think they were good enough and wasn't that confident. We'll never know I guess.
I support him though, he's working hard and who knows, there might be songs in there that I'll like. Still, I cannot lie and say I don't feel a little sad that we're never going to hear some song that HE made (as imperfect as he probably thought they are). This isn't me (or some fans) damanding something, just that little feeling of "what could've been if.." . To me, the songs written/ produced by them weight wayyy more than any other songs out there. Oh well 😬 there's always a next time.
Okayyy rant over. Now I'll just keep an eye out for anyone who wanna bother you 😝🫡 while I watch suchwita ofc!! Take care and keep warm, it's so cold these days! *channeling my inner jimin*

aw pumpkinnnnnnn 😭
yeah i’ve also kinda made peace with the fact that this won’t be an album for me. i’ve mentioned this before and i still stand by it, that it feels like there’s this certain pressure for everyone to release something before enl*sting 😔
you’re right, i’m sure there are other songs that we haven’t heard that were supposed to be for his mixtape. i mourn the loss of them too, just like i did with tae when layover came out. i don’t think being bummed about the old songs means you’re demanding. you’re sad because you know you would’ve liked them, and that’s a completely normal thing to feel. and yes i agree, songs made by them will always feel more personal and have more heart. i’ve already started manifesting for jjk2 lol 😂
(and tbh, i take everything a celebrity says with a grain of salt - even bts - so there are always things that i’m skeptical about)
yessss suchwita 😭 i forgot about it ngl bc it’s been like over a month since the last ep hahaha. but oh lord when i finally watch it it’s gonna be tough since it’s the first ep released after he left 😭😭😭
and YES IT IS COLD WHAT THE HELL. it’s like 10 degrees where i am and it’s only october??? the leaves haven’t even turned yellow but i’m already freezing my ass off. i have a feeling this winter will kill me

Okay part 2. I hope it's okay that I'm sending in parts because sometimes I forget stuff or lose track of everything I want to say. But last Broadway thing is that you can explain or spoil the Notebook characters thing since it confused me. I actually was reading about the staging of the rain yesterday which seems complicated. I'm always interested in this stuff like set design and some of the business stuff you mentioned too. The only thing with seeing this show is I heard it will really make you cry and idk if ive ever actually cried when watching a show before which seems weird cuz I saw Les Mis but don't think I cried. Did you cry when you saw the show..I'm just curious.
I also wanted to tell you that I slowly started reading again. I'm on like chapter 10 of This Summer Will be Different and also Funny Story. They're pretty different so can't really compare but I'm loving both so far so hopefully I can stick with it. I do think these two seem the most tropey compared to the other books so far and I think it's fun but it might also start to lose me so idk. I heard about both Happy Place and Funny Story also being made into movies too. Also it was just announced that Every Summer After will be a tv show apparently. Idk why cuz that reminds me too much of the summer I turned pretty, that's also a show. Actually I think Happy Place is supposed to be a show too. I guess I don't like when everything is made into a show when it could just easily be a movie. I get that you can add more stuff..I think I'm just less likely to finish a show than movie but I hope it's good. What do you think? I think they're easy to imagine as movies but it's just hard to imagine the casting if that makes sense. I also might try to read the Outsiders and Gatsby at the same time too apparently but we will see lol. I'm glad you've been enjoying your reads and always check out your recommendations.
Happy August! Lol I can't believe it's August already. I hope you have a great month. I remember I meant to reply to you sooner to say something about the anniversary of your eras show but for some reason I forgot. Then mine just passed which is already a week after yours but I still thought about you. I can't believe that was my last concert and my next will be my other favorite artist at the end of this month. For collabs, I just think about the re recordings and I think someone once suggested Noah Kahan on debut and I wouldn't mind that. I've also thought of Kelly Clarkson for debut which is something I would really want for 10 year old me and Tim McGraw so it can be kinda full circle and maybe how she collabed with Keith Urban. I haven't thought of any collabs for rep actually and I would even like it if it didn't have any..like 1989. I would say Halsey and maybe Selena if she decides to release Need. Lorde is also a popular answer I wouldn't mind but idk if these are likely. There may have been Sabrina Carpenter collab rumors at some point and I enjoy their voices when they sang together but don't know what it would be like or for rep or debut. Or it could just be okay..like the Gracie one so who knows. I would also love Soccer Mommy on debut since she covered a debut song and she's from Nashville. She toured with the National so maybe Taylor knows who she is and that would make me very happy. What about you?
What do you think of the possibility of rep being announced or released pretty soon this year? There's a lot of theories about it being announced possibly today actually. Part of me thinks she wouldn't release it for a while but part of me also thinks she would wanna release it before tour is over. I don't know how I feel about debut but I doubt they would be released this soon cuz we got a new album this year. I have no idea anymore though honestly. She also could release while she is on a break from tour next month so it's hard to know. That's what she did with TTPD. What do you think?
Soccer Mommy also just announced her new album yesterday and I am very excited for it! It's called Evergreen and comes out in October. I actually think this album will be a little different for her..like more mellow which I was saying reminded me a bit of Folklore. Now with the name..it also reminds me of Evermore too and I love that connection so much. It could be her version of a fall album which also reminds me of Red and the name having green in the title and green is my favorite color. I know that's irrelevant to the meaning but it was funny cuz it reminded me of Red. I totally recommend her music. I will listen to Clairo today and give my opinion but I like what I've heard so far. What else have you been listening to? Sorry if I forgot anything but as always I hope you are doing well and have a lovely weekend!
it's totally fine to send things in parts! don't stress about it my friend 🤍
and yes! happy to explain notebook to you, although i will be able to do a better job after i see it again — do you mind if we wait a few weeks and then i get back to you on the notebook! i have cried at many a show! i am a crier! i cry at everything! i was actually talking to my friend allison tonight about that; the shows i've cried the most at were waitress, and ragtime for sure. but waitress even more so (which means ... seeing it in san francisco in january with two of my best friends — who don't know each other — is going to be a fun way to start off a trip). i've cried at cinderella. for no reason at all. i think it'd be easier to name a show that didn't make me cry haha. it's just ... the magic of theatre! that being said ... i did not cry when i saw les mis on tour last year, so do with that what you will!
i hope you're enjoying your reads! i meant to reread funny story once it came out and still haven't, but maybe i'll get to that soonish. i do think that both of them are very, very tropey and i hope you're enjoying it! what are some of your favorite tropes? ever summer after is very much like the summer i turned pretty, but with older characters, so i'm curious to see how it does! i didn't realize it was being turned into a tv show! did you see the people we meet on vacation casting? do you have thoughts? i really liked emily in my lady jane, and i'm keeping an open mind on tom, since i haven't actually seen him in anything except for tiktok fancams and tumblr gifsets haha. he's a sweetheart though (we have mutual friends) and i'm happy for his success!
happy happy august!!!! i hope your august is going great! you're seeing 21p at the end of the month, right? i can't wait to hear about it! i don't know if i'll be around much at the end of the month since i'll be in new york but know that i'll be thinking of you and i will be seeing things on my phone (just probably not responding, since i hate typing long messages on my phone) if you want to send in a concert review 🥺! oh noah on debut would be so fun!! i would actually really love that! i'd also like kacey musgraves, or maggie rogers on debut! i was listening to halsey earlier today (i was spinning badlands on vinyl) and was thinking of how cool a halsey rep feature or 1989 feature would be! i've heard of soccer mommy but haven't done a discography dive in! but now that you've mentioned them, i'll check them out 🤍
did you see that maisie and holly are opening for taylor? 🥺🥺🥺 i'm so proud of my girls but also terrified for what their future concerts will be like haha. i've been seeing a LOT of rep theories and i do think the easter egg/clowners have a point but i also wonder if she'd do the same thing (announce a recording on tour) twice. personally i'd want her to wait until after tour, but i do see why she'd want to release it on tour. i just think that her (and ttpd) are everywhere and it'd be good for there to be a break haha.
i didn't know green is your favorite color! pink is mine, although i don't think that's going to be much of a shock! i was also spinning clairo's immunity on vinyl today! i feel like i've just been listening to a lot of my usuals (maisie, holly, sabrina, gretta ray — have we talked about gretta ray? i love her! highly recommend her!) and then musicals! musicals galore! a lot of sondheim 🤍 and a lot of olivia rodrigo in preparation for my concert tomorrow, and the japanese house for the concert i'm going to next week! eeeee!
hope you're doing well! thinking of you and sending hugs!

henlo yza beloved <33
it's been the same for me 😭 how is april even ending like? i am still in my 2023 just started zone, i've been on autopilot mode tbh, also on purpose avoiding the dates lmao because i don't want to perceive the real time (if that makes sense). i'm so glad and proud of you btw <3
" maybe writers didn't think they'd get that far " CRYINGJSJSDJSK 😭😭 they're just like me then <3.
love how we're so alike <3 because i also don't vibe with the revenge type of media too much, nothing is exciting drama wise this year. trying out classics sounds fun, which ones did you watch? i would love to know <3 AND ALSO SAME I'VE BEEN WATCHING MOVIES SM THIS YEAR, it's surprising to me because i used to be like 'i am not a movie person' turns out i just didn't know how to look for what i really vibe with 😭. i've been trying to watch more slice of life-esqe movies these days, i highly recommend canola ( 2016, korean movie) and also a not so slice of life movie, unlocked. i checked it out because of im siwan skjsksks and ended up wishing for him to not come on screen throughout 😭 ( just bit of warning it's creepy and scary </3 ).
i truly get you </3 hope you get will to read soon <333 it's not a solution but i try to read even just 2 pages whenever i feel like my reading block is out. been reading a book like this since feb djsjsksk ( finally at last few chapters lmao ) i just tell myself slow reading is a thing and don't think too much of it.
sorry bss - second wind. i am now friends with seventeen and fml <3 I AM SO HAPPY YZA <3 i didn't know i needed a song based on dragon ball z this bad lmaoo ( i have zero clue about dbz btw, i was a pokemon - digimon kid) but i get woozi, if i was an artist i too would make all songs about my hyperfixations
i love the song, album and them esp woozi 😭. coups wasn't joking around when he said woozi will shine this cb. they all did tbh.
last two days were definitely the second highlight of this year after bss album for me. it's been so long since i got to be in the whole cb fanfare with anticipating teasers till cb day checking out the music. ( i still have to sit down and listen to the album with lyrics. i first listened to album then read all lyrics next day jsdkks haven't gotten time to both together yet ) i really liked everything about this cb and i love that for me. saur excited for the fml mv too. also today is woodz comeback i'm excited about that too it's been long since i heard new music from him
i've been annoying my friend since caratland about woozi (we both watched it together) 😭 now i think this cb cemented woozi as a bias wrecker for me. sorry that got too long i am just rambling same thing atp.
which ones are your top 3? mine atp are fml, super and idubilu ( yesterday third one was dust dhsjjs ) tell me your thoughts about cb hehe very curious about it
i haven't seen the carat day live either, just watched it through twt clips jdjdks ( i can't watch actually because the app hates me 💀 it doesn't load anything on wifi for me since last year )
ikr <333 plato's been my place to cool down fr. rules about ludo +#(#)#)2 the rules about ludo are that there are no rules 😭 they keep changing locally too. differs from person to person i think. i grew up playing with '6 is the only number which will give you chance to come out of the house' rule, nothing else. feel free to text on disc we can arrange time and date to play 🥰🤍
thank you for taking time out of your life to hang out with me it means a lot, i enjoy your company 🥺🤍. i hope you're taking care of yourself mentally and physically despite the busy schedule 🫂 i love you 💌 sending the best and peaceful days your way my yza <3

it's literally like,, watching sumn to stress on 😭😭 what is the pOINTTTTTT???? maybe other people wanna live vicariously through those characters but i just want a lil silly plot </3 just some people being nice and happy we already have enough bad shit irl!! the most memorable one that i've watched lately was the truman show!! (WHICH IS INSANE TBH BC LITERALLY A FEW DAYS LATER THE SVTEENIES DROPPED THE FML TEASER WHICH HAD SO MANY REFERENCES TO IT JKFJKGJK) AND URE SOOOOOOOO VALID TBH DFHJFDH we really are so much alike 😭 ALSO LOVE THESE RECCS OMGGGGGGGGG thanks for contributing to my list <33
slow progress is much better than no progress <3 love how u intentionally try to get back to hobbies, that is good for the soul 😋
ALSO MADE ME LAUGH FJDHJDFHFJDDF this album really is woozi-coded 😭 from the dbz references, the mv itself… he's SOO,,, and the amt of woozidans now,,, i'm gonna have to fight for my life buying tickets now LMFAOOOO ALSO COOL OMG <#3333333333 my cousin was also a digimon kid, but i wasn't so i don't actually know anything about it 😔
FELT TOO OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG i also have forgotten how busy cbs are (especially svt ones tbh) so it was also such a fun experience for me <3 ALSO LOVE HOW U REALLY TAKE UR TIME TO READ THE LYRICS!! more than the vibe and music itself it really is a crucial factor to consider when looking at the whole package <3 AND AGREED!!! i also really liked everything (sans the office photos jfdjkfdjfdk, BUT I LOVEDD the group teaser one bc of the table lol, just feel like we've seen enough office concepts from them and wished they spiced it up a lil but i get how it fits into the whole fml thing). AND PLEEK OMG I DIDNT KNOW?????????? i should've realized that he also had a cb when i saw the tiktok w vernon 😭 the way u open new paths for me every time is so <33
AND PLEEEEEEEEEEEK i'm glad more people are realizing his actual Power <3 he really was so fluffy during caratland wasn't he? 🥺
mine also changes a lot kjfgkjgjk but ms fire will never be dethroned from the no 1 spot <33 rn my 2 other faves r super and dust <3 i previously word vomited on al about that here if u wanna hear more abt my comeback related bs LMFAOOO

With shaky hands, your knuckles hit the door in front of you. You waited for a few seconds, hoping to hear someone say "come in" or anything similar to it, but nothing came. Your legs started shaking slightly, and you turned your head to the right, relieved to see the man you had just bumped into had already left and wasn't able to watch you slowly turning into an even more nervous wreck.
Were you too late? Did the security check take too long? Did I waste too much time?
Before your guilt could swallow you up, you heard someone open the door and found a kind pair of eyes looking at you from the other side.
"Hello," the woman nodded and moved to the side, motioning for you to step inside. As soon as you took one step, the two men sitting by the big meeting room table stood up and watched you expectantly. You immediately bowed, greeting them in the politest way possible.
"Hello," you smiled at the people in the room, noticing that they must have already been in there for longer, "Am I too late? I'm so sorry, I-"
"No, no, don't worry," Han Seongsu quickly stopped you, walking around the table to greet you, "We just decided to meet a little bit earlier and prepare a few things."
"Oh," a relieved sigh left your lips, "Okay, good." He motioned to an empty chair on the left corner to his seat before sitting back down, waiting for you to do the same. You took off your coat as one of the managers, you assumed, sat down in front of you, and the woman that opened the door for you had taken place right next to him. Your side of the table felt empty, making your heart race. As if sitting this close to the people that were about to decide your future wasn't already nerve-wracking enough.
"It's very nice to meet you, Miss Lee." The CEO started the conversation as you put down everything you had brought with you on the table.
"Please, it's an incredibly big honour for me- I mean, f-for us- for the entire group. Your invitation truly means so SO much," you placed a hand over your heart, hoping to show how sincere you were.
The older man chuckled and thanked you, "Well then," he clapped, "Let's get to business, right?" To which you nodded excitedly.
After a quick introduction to the other two people within the room, the official meeting started. You handed over the contract you had brought along just in case, but they stopped you and showed you their own copy of it that they had prepared.
"So," Han Seongsu took the word, "You debuted in 2017," he read off his notes, and you agreed to his statements, "and disbanded in January of 2020." Again, you nodded. "In that time, you only had... four comebacks... only Mini-Albums, no full-length albums."
"Yes...," you stated quietly before you remembered to come off as confident, so you spoke up, "Our company didn't have much money, and we were only ever able to use the money that we made with the comebacks from before."
The older man nodded, "Even though you didn't have that much to give... you did gain a, in comparison to other groups of your status, pretty big following, which is good. And, I mean, we totally understand why," he smiled, "Amour has a unique colour and I'm sure people would actually want to hear and see more." He cleared his throat, "I heard what your CEO did," looking up to meet your eye, "Don't worry." Assuring you with a kind smile, "And I must say," he looked through his notes. A quick glance at them let you know that they had somehow secured details to each of your comebacks and concepts. "I've always been a big fan of your group's style. I really liked the concepts. Especially your latest one."
The other man next to him nodded happily, "It was part of our inspiration for the home run music video." And the CEO chuckled when his eyes fell on your surprised stare,
"That's true. We always thought you were heavily musical and theatre-based. With an interesting and unique undertone for each one of your comebacks."
You nodded quickly, "Yeah, that's exactly what we were trying to do. The company didn't want us to stick to just one, and the cute girly concept didn't fit right with us in the beginning, but we didn't have a lot to say. Towards the end, we managed to... to get at least a bit involved in it. And I guess with the last one... they probably knew that it would be our last comeback, so they just let us do whatever we wanted."
"That's one of the few things your company managed to get right because your last one was your most popular one so far. You gained a lot of attention through that one, before... the scandal."
"Yeah...," you nodded and cleared your throat politely, "We took part in some of the ideas, but our last comeback was fully on us" All three turned their heads to you, surprised at your statement, "We didn't have a ton of artistic freedom, nor did we get any credits, but my group and I always worked hard for these comebacks and the concept and aesthetic around them."
"Oh, wow..." the woman exclaimed.
The manager continued her thought, "We had no idea..." You nodded shyly with a chuckle and wiped your palms over the fabric of your pants.
"Well," Han Seonsu laughed wholeheartedly, "That's just even better for you and your group then, isn't it?" While his employees agreed, you continued looking at him, hiding your confusion behind a fake smile on your lips. "We looked through the contract you sent us," he explained, making you sit up straighter. The serious part of the conversation had started. "And we thought about how we could help Amour. What we can and can't do to get you back out there, you know?" And you nodded understandingly.
"I must say," The CEO admitted, "I'm impressed," raising his head to meet your eyes, "Very impressed. You wrote all of this?" He pointed to the stack of paper in front of you.
"Yes," you answered him with a nod, "With the help of a lawyer, we conducted this contract together."
"You worked together with a lawyer?" The woman wondered.
"Yes. After we left the company- sorry," you corrected yourself, "After the company went bankrupt, I started attending Business and Law courses at university and one of my professors, who has been working as a lawyer for about 15 years, helped me with this. He has experience in the music industry, and we looked through older contracts together and created this one. Together."
"Your group must be very important to you," Han Seongsu stated while the other two people in the room still tried wrapping their heads around what you had just told them.
You nodded with a proud smile, "They are. We've been together for a long time and I, as their leader..." you trailed off, lowering your head before raising it again, meeting the pairs of eyes that were glancing at you, "I don't think I could live with myself knowing that I didn't give it my all to keep the group together. And at least... try... to, you know, start again."
"I see, I see," the older man nodded. "Very impressive. You're a true leader." He pointed at you, making you smile,
"Thank you."
"But if I also understand correctly, from what it says here," he directed his attention back to the contract, "You currently do not hold the name of Amour. Is that right?"
"Correct. Yeah... ehm... our old company sold our name."
"They sold it?" The younger man exclaimed, "To who?"
"Source Music," you explained, "At least from what I know." And your eyes fell on the pen in his hand, with which he was quick to take notes. You wondered what those were about.
The CEO decided to take the next word, "Well, if the name is still with Source Music then we shouldn't have much of a problem getting it back. We're under the same label now after all, so... we'll see what we can do there. But that's out of your control, that's our concern now. So, don't worry about that." He assured you, and a deep sigh tumbled from your lips. You just might even get the name of your group back... this felt a little too much like a dream.
"But," the woman suddenly spoke up, making all of the attention within the room direct towards her, "If you haven't had the ownership of the name, that means... you also haven't gotten any of the royalties of your songs. Right?"
You nodded, "Yes."
The younger man raised his head in confusion, "Oh, yeah," and turned to you, "How have you been earning money until now?"
So you started explaining, "Some of us started taking on jobs. It was hard at the beginning, but..." Should you lie? Should you say that it was all fine now? Or should you tell them the truth of living in a two-bedroom apartment that houses five women? "Well... it still is difficult. But we manage." You finished your statement with a bright smile. Because that's what it was. Yes, it was hard. And yes, it had been hard ever since the beginning. But all of you were still happy. Happy that you were together and happy that you at least had a roof over your head.
"And where are you currently living? Do you still have your dorm?" The woman wondered.
"No," you shook your head, "We moved out of there very shortly after the news hit the public. There wasn't much time that we had between having to move out and finding a new place. Right now we live in a smaller apartment," you found the worrying eyes of each of the older people in front of you. "But," you tried lightening the mood, "We've been saving some money, and some of us are also getting promoted at work, so... we hope that we can find a new place within the next few months."
The CEO looked at the contract and nodded, not bearing the silence that had washed over the room, "That... shouldn't be a future concern of yours." He turned his attention back to you, "We would be ready to give you an offer." Right at that moment, you could have sworn you felt your heart jump. It definitely stopped for a second. It must have because you didn't catch the next few words that came out of his mouth but snapped out of it when the woman suddenly placed a different stack of paper in front of you.
"This is our offer." Han Seongsu explained, "But Ahn Jinyoung will explain that to you," and motioned for the other man to continue.
"So, as Han Seongsu already said, we read through your contract, and we'd be ready to meet all of your requirements." A smile was threatening to spread on your lips, but you were quick to press them together, trying to stay as professional as possible while your heart was about to burst from your chest, "Everything you mentioned is what we would usually offer our artists anyways. Additionally, we'd give you your own studio space on one of our floors that HYBE has provided us with. You will be able to use the practice rooms in the entire building, as well as any other room you might have to use. Of course, you would always have to report any use of them to us first, so we can check it with the schedule." You nodded, letting him know you were still following, while deep down, you hoped that everything was written down in the contract you were breezing through because the beating of your heart was making it hard for you to listen to the man in front of you. "You will basically get provided with anything you would need..." he trailed off, making you look up and wonder,
"But?"
He nodded with a smile, "We can't offer you a fixed contract." You scrunched your eyebrows in confusion and worry, but he was quick to continue, "We're offering you a temporary contract. This means," he cleared his throat and pointed to the papers in front of you, "This, will be your contract for one year. Within this one year, we are expecting a minimum of two successful comebacks of Amour. If you reach our expectations, we would be more than happy to offer you a fixed artist contract under Pledis Entertainment."
You shook your head, "I'm sorry. I'm just trying to understand everything here. So, you'll provide us with the facilities that we need, but we will publish everything ourselves?"
"No, no," Ahn Jinyoung stopped you, "You will get everything our groups have here. A managing team, our staff members, you'll get to work with our choreographers, our producers, and so on. Everything a fixed group would get as well. Your songs will be published under Pledis Entertainment with credits to individual members that take part in producing, writing, etc. The only difference is that we don't know if Amour will get the recognition it had before or even more actually. With everything that happened, we have to be careful. We hope you understand." And you nodded. Of course, you understand. They don't want a group that is destined to flop. "We're hoping that you will get more successful with the support and help we will provide you with. And if that is the case, you'll get another contract by the end of this temporary one, in which we can discuss how long you'd want it to go for, anything you'd want to add or take away, and so on."
Okay, that was a lot. Your eyes wandered over the lines of words written on the paper, trying to get anything into your brain when it was about to melt. Everything seemed too good to be true. Even with a 'temporary contract'... it couldn't have been that easy...
"You can take the contract back home, of course," Han Seongsu spoke up, "Read through it, see if you understand everything. Maybe you want to discuss it with your members first."
You smiled, "I think they would kill me if I were to even just think about missing out on an opportunity like this." Making the other three in the room chuckle. "We'd be more than happy to accept this," you answered them, "I'm going to talk to my members about everything, but... you can expect a very loud and very motivated 'yes' from all of them, I'm sure."
"Well then," the older man grinned, "You might as well also tell them to start packing."
You directed your eyes towards him, "Packing?" You wondered.
Was this... really happening?
-
With a smile on your face, your keys in one hand and a big plastic bag from your guys' favourite takeout restaurant, you opened the door, only to get greeted with the loud voices you were expecting.
"Y/N's back, everyone!" The '97 Liner shouted through the apartment, making you giggle. Quick footsteps could be heard from behind one of the doors, rushing over to you, who was still trying to get the coat off your shoulders.
"AND?" Minjeong exclaimed loudly, leaning on the wall, awaiting your response while standing on her tiptoes.
"Shouldn't you be at uni?" You teasingly wondered, stepping onto the wooden floor and passing her to put everything you were carrying on the table.
"I took the day off, but that's not important," she shrugged you off, tugging at your arm, "SO? Tell us!" With a smile on your face, you looked to your left, seeing Haru already grinning at you, and Yerim and Sunhi holding onto each other nervously.
"Sit down first," you ordered them, getting a round of groans back as a response, making your eyes widen.
"No, stop!" Haru sighed, "Don't tease us like that, just tell us, come on!"
So you started, "They..." watching Sunhi's eyes widen, and you could've sworn they were sparkling right at you, "offered to-"
"OH MY GOD!" The Maknae jumped up, immediately wrapping her arms around her, not even letting you finish. The others were quick to react and rushed to get closer to you, engulfing all in the familiar comfort of a group hug.
"Guys," you laughed out loud, "You didn't even let me finish!"
"You said they offered you something," Sunny looked at you, a bright smile on her lips.
"But I didn't say what," you said back as they freed you from their grasp, getting ready to gather around the table and take their designated seats.
Haru scoffed, "Yeah guys, it could be a contract to clean their building," teasing you, making you roll your eyes.
"Ha ha, very funny," but everyone actually did let out a chuckle.
"Well then," the second oldest sat down, still watching you, "Our dear leader, please enlighten us."
So you started. While handing out each dish you had gotten for the group, having remembered their orders after enough years of living close together, you began explaining the contract Pledis had offered you. You took it out of your bag, careful not to get it messy with the food surrounding it, at clarified every single thing the company was ready to offer and do for you and what you had to do in exchange. It was supposed to be a win-win situation for everyone involved, and you had no problem with it. As expected, the girls were quick to agree on it, not reading through the stacks of papers but relying on the information that you were feeding them with. Even while all of you were eating together, they kept on asking you questions about not only the contract but the building as well - the surrounding, and the people there, which had let you to tell them about your (not so) unlucky encounter with Seventeen's leader, Choi Seungcheol. A lot of "oohs" filled the room, glancing at you with batting eyelashes.
"How romantic," Minjeong squealed, seeming to be more excited about that than the actual good news for your group.
"Very romantic," you scoffed, "Almost knocking someone over," joking about her description of the scene.
"It is romantic," Sunhi defended the youngest, "That's how all of the couples meet in dramas."
The comments of the two youngest only made you laugh, touched by their sweet hearts, "But this is not a drama, guys."
In the corner of your eye, you could see Minjeong sulk, "Still..." and take a bite of her food, "Very very accidentally weird that you meet your crush on your first day there." All heads snapped towards you while you sent the maknae your famous 'are you serious?' look.
"OOOOH," Yerim jumped up, "I totally forgot about that!"
"Oh yeah, right," Haru giggled, high-fiving the other girl, "Same."
"I never said that he was my crush!" You were quick to answer. But your statement only got you funny looks in response, "I never said that."
"Right, sorry," the loud '98 Liner sat back down, "You only swooned over him watching that Caratland performance over and over again. Non-stop blabbering about his hair, and his voice-" her rant got interrupted by the tissue you had crumbled up and threw right at her face. She giggled and threw it back, "I'm just saying! I did offer to introduce you to him properly..."
"I don't need that, thank you very much." You smiled and continued eating your food while the others were heavily invested in what was going on between the two of you.
Genie snickered, "I mean..." gaining your intention, "You're gonna be under the same company from now on, sooo...." glancing at you with big eyes, earning another round of high-pitched "ooohs" to fill the room. Not being able to just sit back and endure this teasing, you decided to speak up to the youngest that seemed a little too enthusiastic about your crush,
"Alright," you started, "Then what about you Minjeong?" Making the '99 Liner look at you wide-eyed, "What about your crush on-"
"NOOOO!" She shouted out, "STOP, this is about you," pointing her finger at you, in hopes to shut you up. The entire table erupted in laughter, giggling at the rosy cheeks of their maknae. With a shy smile, she leaned back, crossing her arms in front of her chest, pouting at the teasing she was now receiving.
-
"Ouch!" You cursed out loud as you smashed your toe on one of the boxes on the floor yet again - for the fourth time already. The apartment was filled with moving boxes, cartons filled with clothes, and containers full of the personal things you and the members would bring along into the new dorm.
After you had come back home two days ago, excited to deliver the good news to the girls, they did not hesitate to immediately start packing as soon as you finished your shared dinner. The girls were quick to throw everything out of their wardrobes, get all of their stuff from under their beds back up to the surface, without even thinking about the fact that you had no boxes to put everything in whatsoever. Everything had happened a little too quick for your liking, and you had to make sure to get everything ready for the moving company and managers that would help you relocate your personal belongings into the new apartment.
The CEO let you know that there was a dorm ready for you to move in right away, but you had asked for a two-day 'delay' at least, so you could actually find the time to pack, which he very kindly agreed on. Your managers had assured you that they would settle everything with your past landlord after you had sent them your apartment's contract, so nothing was standing in the way of an immediate move. To your question as to why you would have to move so fast, Han Seongsu assured you, that it was only for the best for Amour and to get you back to the work you were supposed to be doing, as quickly as possible. And as thankful as you were... your stomach was making you worry. It all seemed a little too good to be true. But with all of the other things you had on your mind, you had pushed those thoughts aside and decided to focus on one thing at a time.
From your day at work the day before and that day, you managed to secure a good amount of boxes, along with Haru and Sunhi, who did the same. Yerim's mother was kind enough to bring some along as well, leaving you with one less thing to worry about.
"When are they coming again?" Haru stuck her head out from the door of the room she was in. Her hair, much like yours, up in a messy hair-do, just to keep it out of your face.
"At four," you answered, snatching the phone out of the back pocket of your jeans, "So in... ten minutes?!" Making the '97 Liner screech and move her entire body back into the room quickly.
"What?!" Erupted from the other room and two bodies tumbled out behind you, "Ten minutes?! We're not done yet, and Sunhi is still at work!" You tried calming the two younger members down when the front door opening stopped you,
"Oh, thank god," you breathed out as soon as you saw the Main Vocalist entering the living space, "Alright, listen!" The girls stopped and focused on you while the '98 Liner that had just arrived started glancing around perplexed, "You guys just continue packing, don't worry. They're gonna start taking the boxes from the living room and kitchen, and move onto the individual rooms slowly, alright?" You got a round of nods and relieved sighs as answers before they all disappeared again. Sunhi wondered how she could help since two other members were packing in her shared room, also putting away her things. The two of you started working in the kitchen together, wrapping the last plates and bowls in bubble wrap before putting them into the designated boxes.
Exactly ten minutes later, a knock on the door interrupted your work. You jumped over the stuff on the floor, careful not to bump into anything or slip and something again and made your way to the front door to open it.
"Hello Miss Lee," Park Chaewon greeted you, the woman you had met two days ago and the woman that would become one of your managers.
"Hi Miss Park, and you can call me Y/N, that's fine," you smiled at her and motioned for her to come in.
"Well then, you should also just call me Chaewon," she told you kindly, and you shared a warm laugh together as you made your way to the dining table in the middle of the room.
"Girls!" You shouted for your other members to gather, which they did. As soon as they found you with the slightly older woman, they greeted her politely.
"You've already done so much, I see. That's good," she complimented you, looking around the rather sad looking apartment, "Wow...," she sighed, "This really is a small apartment." Her comment made the five of you laugh and you nodded,
"Yep... that's why we're even more thankful for the opportunity that you're giving us." You thanked her with your other four members agreeing and thanking the woman repeatedly.
Chaewon smiled at the five of you, "It's okay, it's okay, girls," she laughed, "Alright!" And clapped her hands, "Well then...," looking around the space, "The movers are already coming upstairs, so they're gonna start putting all of this into the trucks, and you guys can already go downstairs if you want to. Another manager's waiting for you in a car."
"Oh, that's sweet, but we still have to pack a few things in our rooms because we weren't home the entire day," you explained, reminding the woman that some of you still had your jobs to go to. She nodded understandingly, but before she could say anything more, said mover came into the apartment, ready to take the full packed boxes with them. You guided the men through the rooms and asked for them to start with the living room and kitchen, helping where you could, with Sunhi right behind you, while your other three members finished packing everything up in the bedrooms.
You were leaving most of your furniture in the place, only taking smaller pieces with you like mirrors, side tables, makeup fridges, etc. The couches would stay, as well as the beds you had purchased through a cheap online market, and the dining table with the chairs that came along. The washing machine and dryer came with the apartment, so you had no problem leaving them behind.
A good fourty minutes later, you and your members were seated in the van with one of your other new managers, Hwang Doyun, who was driving you to your new dorm. Chaewon stayed back and finalised the work to eliminate the contract with your past landlord. After signing the papers, the five of you didn't spare another second to jump into the white care, ready for the new journey.
Even while you were sitting in the vehicle, your heartbeat didn't calm down as you hoped it would. You were still incredibly nervous, most definitely even more nervous than before, realising what was happening at that very moment. You had just left the place you called home for the past year behind and were about to start a completely new chapter in a completely new dorm with a new company and new people around you. The only thing that stayed the same were the members. The only people that you could trust with your life and the only people you truly needed, as the last year had proven to you.
You clutched tightly onto your bag, shutting out the voices of Yerim and Minjeong that were excitedly talking about what to expect, looking out the window and filling the ears of the manager with questions about all kinds of things. Haru's gaze, who was sitting next to you, fell down to your hands, noticing your knuckles that were slowly but surely turning white. She reached out and softly placed her hand over yours, grazing her thumb over your skin, making you look down before finding her glance.
"You okay?" The girl sent you a kind smile. You nodded with a deep breath. Haru knew you like no one else ever could. She had been your backbone for far too long and could read you like an open book. There was nothing she didn't know about you. Just like now.
"You don't have to be nervous, you know? We're all a little bit scared," she admitted, "But it's gonna be fine," and assured you. With a squeeze of the other's hand, you let the conversation end, and your eyes focused on the quiet girl next to Haru. Sunhi. The '98 Liner was known as the probably quietest one in the group, despite being your main vocalist. A girl with one of the most beautiful and powerful voices you had ever heard that only ever uses it for singing, rather than talking.
"Sunhi?" You gained her attention, "Are you okay?" Even though she's usually more reserved, you couldn't help but to worry, noticing that she hadn't even talked to you or Haru throughout the drive.
The younger girl nodded with a smile on her lips, "Yep. I'm excited to see the new place," she hid her hands underneath her thighs, something she would do whenever she was starting to become anxious.
You nodded but took a mental note of staying close to her as soon as you would get out of the car.
"You girls in the back!" Suddenly a voice got you out of your mindset, "How are you feeling? You've been a little quiet." Your manager looked through the review mirror, finding your smiling faces.
"We're fine," you laughed at his loud voice, "Excited to see the dorm."
He nodded, "I hope you are. And we really hope you like it as much as Seventeen does. Everything's ready for you. You don't really have to worry about much. We're gonna go shopping for you later, so please don't forget to write a list of what you need so I can get it for you."
"Thank you!" The five of you exclaimed, filling the vehicle with your voices and laughs, but one quickly stopped again,
"Wait," Yerim quickly took a look at the three of you in the backseat before turning back to the front, looking at the back of Doyun's head, "Seventeen? They're in the same building?" Suddenly gaining everybody's attention.
"Yeah," the man chuckled. Your ears perked up. "All Pledis artists are in the same building. Nu'est has their dorm there as well, but most of them moved out. Seventeen has three of their own right now too." You heard a chuckle to your right.
Well... this was about to be very interesting...
-
Giggling, jumping up and down, and holding onto each other's hands, the middle child and the youngest of your group waited in front of the elevator, more than excited to finally step into your new home. Haru chuckled at the sight of Yerim and Minjeong, approaching them with slower steps. You were right behind her, a quiet Sunhi clinging onto your arm as you petted her hand, trying to soothe the younger girl. Your eyes scanned the hallway. Already the entrance was more than you had expected it would be - stone, almost marble, flooring, clean walls and windows, nothing like your old place.
As soon as the elevator arrived, another screech came from the two girls at the front, making you jump, but chuckle once they motioned for you to get in quicker and to, as they put it, "stop wasting more time." They pressed the button for the right floor, and up you went.
Before exiting the car, your manager had handed you the key and passcode to the front door, but you eventually gave it to Yerim, who was giddily mumbling her words, impatiently waiting for you to finally stop talking to the man and make your way into the building. You were more than happy to give her the honour of opening the door for the very first time.
The five of you got out of the elevator, and you guided them with the words you were given by Dohyun.
"So this here?" Minjeong wondered as you came to a halt. Right in front of you, a big door that would lead you to the new dorm.
You nodded, "That's what he said. Try out the code."
Just as Yerim was about to put the key in, Haru's voice stopped her, "WAIT, wait, wait," everyone's head turned to her, "Shouldn't the leader LEAD us in?"
"No, stop," you quickly answered, "Yerim can do that." The '98 Liner looked at her hands. Then looked back up at you.
"No," she approached you, "She's right," and reached for your hand, opening your palm and placing the key inside of it, "You opened the door to our first dorm, to our short term apartment, and to the crappy one." Making everyone chuckle, "You should also open this one."
"You literally opened every door throughout our career. Real ones and imaginary ones," Minjeong reminisced, making your scoff,
"Alright, alright, you can stop now," laughing at the cheesiness of your members.
Once Sunhi let go of your arm, you took the few steps to stand in front of the handle. You put the key in, put the passcode in that you remembered and turned the handle down, hearing the lock open. With a smirk on your lips, you turned back, finding awaiting facial expressions gazing at you. You laughed at the sight.
"Stop teasing and open the door! My god...," Haru whined.
You pressed down slightly more and pushed to open it completely, immediately feeling four presences pressed against your back. Stepping in, you found the lightwood flooring ahead of you and stone right underneath you. Already just from seeing the entrance, you could only imagine what the rest would look like.
You stepped in, took your shoes off and took a few more steps, making room for the girls behind you. Right as the door closed, you heard the '97 Liner gasp, making you, and the others, whip your head around.
"Look!" She pointed to the big bow on the door, "How cute," you all chuckled. A new apartment decorated like a present. How sweet.
Through the hallway, you passed some, for now, empty closet spaces and a door. After opening it, you found the first bathroom behind it, making you gasp. Marble flooring and walls. The girls were quick next to you again.
"Oh wow..."
"It's rose-gold!"
"Wow indeed..." You took a few more steps, feeling the cold floor through your socks. Looking around only felt like a dream. Your hands glided over the countertop of the sink to your left and your eyes lifted to see your reflection looking back at you in the mirror. This wasn't a dream... At least you hoped so. A high-pitched screech made you run out of the room quickly and follow it into the big living space. Yerim was standing between the sofa and TV, the big floor-to-ceiling windows right behind her.
"This is HUGE!" You chuckled, relieved to see her happy.
"This really is massive," the '97 Liner behind you exclaimed. You turned around, glancing at her with big eyes, lips pressed together. "What?" She asked, and you shook your head,
"I... I'm still not sure if this is real..." you admitted to her quietly, scared your voice would break as you felt your throat tighten and your eyes water. Haru was quick to hug your side and pet your head,
"It is," she squeezed you, grinning widely, but you could also see the tears forming in her own pair of eyes.
"I found my room!" Minjeong shouted through the apartment, coming back, gliding into the living and kitchen space as the floor was still slick enough from the cleaning that was just done before you arrived.
"Oh right, wait," you freed yourself from the younger's grip and looked around, "How many rooms are there?"
"Four." Sunhi came back into your shared space, "Four bedrooms."
"Four? So two are gonna have to share..." you spoke mostly to yourself, but the members listened. "Either draw or Rock, Paper, Scissors?"
"OR," Yerim interrupted, "There are two that would share on free will." Looking at someone behind you.
"Would anyone want to share?" Haru wondered, and as soon as those words left her mouth, two hands shot up in the air.
In front of you was the Lead Dancer, and as you glanced around the room, the quiet member and other '98 Liner's hand was also raised. She took slow steps ahead, stopping next to you.
"You two?" You wondered, "Again?" Looking at both girls who had shared a room in your old apartment as well. The two nodded happily, both with big smiles on their faces. "Are you sure?" You asked just in case, but you only got another nod and smile from each one of them.
Yerim wrapped her arm around Sunhi and pushed her towards the couch to sit down with her.
"If they're sure, they're sure," Haru finalised the decision, letting herself fall onto the heavily cushioned sofa.
"Alright," you breathed out, taking a quick look at the '97 Liner and the Maknae, before looking back at your usual partner in crime, who just nodded - of course, she was able to read your mind once again. Weirdo. "What room did you want, Minjeong?" The young girl smiled and pointed behind her into the hallway,
"That one. Right next to the kitchen. Please." Batting her eyelashes at you without knowing that you would give her the room either way. "Then that's yours." Getting a happy smile, clap from her, and bow from her,
"Thank youuu," she sang, letting her knees hit the couch as she dropped down.
"Do you want to choose next?" You turned to the pair, who seemed to have gotten lost in their own conversation.
"Can we?" Yerim wondered, looking at you, before glancing at Haru, who was still next to them. You both nodded, making the two stand up and walk straight ahead, stopping in front of the door, "This one." Sunhi opened the door behind them while the other girl continued with the talking, "It has a bigger closet space."
"Okay," and finally, you turned to the '97 Liner of your group, but she only glanced back at you. For a few seconds, the two of you only shared looks, not letting a word fall from your lips.
"I'm not choosing next," she finally said, and you scrunched your eyebrows, making her continue, "What room do you want?"
"Haruuu," you whined, "You know I don't care about stuff like that."
"No, you're just always the one to choose last."
"And I don't mind. So shut it and choose," you crossed your arms in front of your chest, keeping your eyes on her as she stood up and walked up to you, standing still only a few centimetres apart from you.
"So demanding," she whispered.
"Shut up," you giggled, pushing her away as you felt her getting closer and closer. With a smile decorating her face, she pointed towards the door in the corner of the room, leading to a small room with big windows.
"You can start with your plants there again," she mentioned. With raised eyebrows, you took a quick look at her, hiding your smile at her comment. Even after all those years, and now months of not being able to go after one of your past hobbies, she still remembered. "So take that room attached to it. I'll happily take the one across from Minjeong's."
"Alright," you nodded, speaking softly to her.
You couldn't even put into words how thankful you had always been for the gentle approaches the girls had whenever it came to decision making like this. Quick and easy, with everyone carefully trying to make sure others were fine with their picks. It must also be one of the reasons for your strong bond - taking everything into consideration and not jumping into anything. One of the few things that hadn't changed in the past few years of knowing each other, and something that also hopefully wouldn't change.
With the new place and a new contract, but the same girls around you, you were ready to take on whatever would await you in the upcoming year. From now on, it was hard work, blood, sweat, and tears that you would have to put into if you wanted to get the life back you were so desperately trying to hold onto.

You swung your legs towards the seat across from you, but they were just barely too short and they fell straight back down which caused Yoongi to chuckle. He sat diagonally from you with his feet resting on the seat beside you. He wore headphones and had his laptop in front of him. You hadn't even realized he was paying attention to you.
You held your knitting needles and your creation was nearly done. Yoongi had told you about his family dog--Holly--and you remembered seeing his picture in Yoongi's studio. You were knitting a small scarf that would tuck easily around his collar. You wished you had more time to make him something like a jacket, but Yoongi had sprung the trip on you, planning and taking on a large project like that took weeks to complete.
The scenery on the train flew by so quickly you could hardly make it out and it made your head spin if you tried for more than a few seconds.
"You seem quiet," Yoongi said. He hadn't taken his headphones off and you laughed at the thought that he simply had them in as a habit.
"You were working. I didn't want to disturb you."
Yoongi shrugged and lowered his laptop screen and allowed his headphones to fall around his neck. "You seem nervous." His gaze lowered down to your fingers that continued knitting as you spoke and looked into his eyes. You hadn't even noticed the way your fingers continued the pattern.
"I mean, I want to make a good impression on your family. I know we're not really together or anything, but I'm your soulmate and if they don't like me--"
"Exactly, you're my soulmate," Yoongi said. "Finding each other was less than one in a million. Almost less than one in a billion. And, don't they say that soulmates are often not just compatible with the person, but their family as well?"
"That's been the case so far," you said, remembering reading the Wikipedia article on the handful of other soulmate couples. "But, soulmate science is new and imprecise. And, I imagine for those who are different from their families or don't have good relationships with them, that can't always be true."
"I have a feeling they will like you," Yoongi said. "You don't have to worry."
You didn't get a chance to respond as the train lurched to a stop and announced its arrival in Daegu. The doors opened and you stood up. You and Yoongi had had the train car to yourselves, so you were able to stand up and grab your suitcase immediately.
"Are the press gonna be here?"
"I don't know," Yoongi said. "We didn't officially announce this trip, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone is following us."
You nodded. It was becoming familiar to see camera flashes and your face used as a cover photo. The thought of growing used to it sent a shiver down your spine as you extended the handle on your suitcase.
Yoongi stood beside you and your eyes met briefly causing his lips to turn upwards in a small smile. He reached up and pulled the mask you'd forgotten was looped around your ears and hanging around your chin up over your lips and nose.
"Just in case," he said.
---
You hadn't seen a single camera as you neared Yoongi's parent's place. You weren't sure if it was a blessing or a curse. Just because you couldn't see the cameras, didn't mean that they weren't there. You half expected to see a picture of you and Yoongi getting off the train in Daegu pop up in your newsfeed.
"We're here," Yoongi said. The car stopped and Yoongi was immediately out and walking around to open your door. You stepped out and gripped the handle of your suitcase, the bones of your knuckles feeling like they were about to burst through your skin.
Yoongi walked slightly in front of you and opened the door. The first thing you heard was a high-pitched barking and before you could catch sight of Holly, the brown full-sized poodle was jumping up on you in greeting.
"You must Holly," you said, crouching down and allowing the dog to rest its front half on your lap. "I've heard a lot about you."
"Ah, I'm right here." Yoongi's face contorted into a look of simultaneous amusement and jealousy.
You laughed as you ruffled the dog's ears and crouched down so he could lick your chin. "Oh, you're so sweet." You reached into your purse and pulled out the scarf you finished on the train ride and carefully tied it around his neck.
"Oh!" you heard someone exclaim from the other end of the room. "I wasn't expecting you two for another hour. Dinner isn't done yet."
"It's fine. We have to get settled anyway."
Yoongi's mother's eyes widened as she met yours. It was as if she had just noticed you. She stood just a few inches shorter than Yoongi and you could see they shared many features. From the slope of the nose to the way her eyes seemed to narrow in on you, the same way Yoongi's did in certain moments.
"You must be Sumi," she said. "It's so nice to finally meet you."
She reached out and pulled you into a hug. You tensed as she wrapped her arms around you. From everything Yoongi told you about his family, they were not outwardly affectionate people and so you had expected at most a firm handshake.
"I'm sorry," she said. "I just feel like you're part of the family already." She glanced over at Yoongi and back at you. "I haven't seen Yoongi this happy for a long time."
"Oh," was all you could get out. Yoongi had told them you were trying to sever the relationship, right?
---
Yoongi met his mother's gaze. Her eyebrow slightly arched, a look Yoongi had seen many times. Holly broke the silence with a bark signaling for you to reach down and pet him again. You crouched down so your face was level with his and allowed him to lick your chin.
Yoongi couldn't help but smile as he watched you. Your hair was ruffled from the train ride and he noticed the way your shaking hands calmed as they ran through Holly's fur. He crouched down next to you and met your eyes, a small smile simultaneously appeared on both your faces.
"I've never seen him warm up to someone so quickly," Yoongi said, ruffling the dog's ears.
"I guess he just likes me."
"Yeah," Yoongi said, his voice an octave quieter. "I guess he does."
Yoongi's phone buzzes in his pocket. His hand reaches for it, but he doesn't want to leave this moment. It wasn't like he was reliant on his phone, but with an upcoming album and the other members working on it in his absence, he couldn't ignore it.
Jihee's name appeared on his screen and his widened. He hadn't blocked her number purely because the texts after the break up stopped and with the whole soulmates thing, he'd honestly forgotten.
Yoongi opened the text and found a screenshot from Instagram where she'd posted a picture of herself laying on a bed with her legs straight up in the air. It wasn't the familiar slope of her calves or the arch of her back that caught his eye, but rather the black pumps she wore.
He recognized them instantly as the ones you'd worn and abandoned the night he'd met you and the ones you'd failed to get back from Minki. Yoongi had no idea how Jihee got a hold of them, or how she even knew their significance.
He screenshot the text and emailed it off to the legal team at BigHit. He knew the post would probably gain some attention, but he trusted it would be seen for what it was, an attempt to seek attention.
Blocking her number, he slid the phone back into his pocket. Yoongi knew he should tell you, but watching the way you adjusted the scarf around Holly's neck, he decided he'd tell you later.
---
Yoongi was starving and watched as each dish was placed on the table. His parents had made a bit of everything and as soon as everything was set he quickly reached for braised pork and his mom's homemade kimchi.
You grabbed a bit of everything and mixed it together with your rice. Yoongi reached out and grabbed a few more pieces of meat and set them in your bowl.
"You didn't eat much this morning."
Your eyes widened and Yoongi thought he caught your lips curl into an embarrassed smile.
"Sumi," Yoongi's mother said. "I'm so happy you came into Yoongi's life. We were getting a bit worried Yoongi would never find someone who made him truly happy." She glanced over at Yoongi's father. "Even in his past relationships, I never saw Yoongi like this."
Yoongi felt the heat rush to his ears and his feet fidgeted under the table.
You--despite Yoongi seeing the way you fiddled with your chopsticks indicating your nerves--smiled. "Well, I didn't really have a choice." You laugh, which normally made Yoongi's heart jump, this time made it fall.
While it was entirely true that you and Yoongi hadn't a choice in getting to know each other, there was a part of Yoongi that didn't want this to end. He wanted to see you play with Holly, see your hair splayed over your face in the morning, and your small smile when he gave you more meat.
"I am happy I met Yoongi though," you said. "Even if we can't spend the rest of our lives together and this is all some weird biological thing, these past few weeks getting to know Yoongi have convinced me that we are truly soulmates. I don't think soulmates always have to be romantic or end up together, we just get each other."
The table fell silent. But, it was content and for the remainder of the meal, the only sounds heard were light conversations and the sounds of eating. Yoongi couldn't help the swelling feeling he felt in his chest. He worried he would suddenly float off the seat like a balloon if he didn't try to stifle it.
You set down your chopsticks. "Thank you for the meal. I'll clean up my things and head to bed."
"Oh, no need to clean up. You're our guest. Yoongi, why don't you show her to your old room? I'll set you up a bed on the couch."
"Ah, mom, we're soulmates. Is that really necessary?"
"Yes," his mom said. "Maybe the poor girl wants a break from you."
His mom's quip made you laugh and he let out a sigh. "All right," he said. "Come on."
---
Yoongi led you to his childhood bedroom. When he opened the door, you were met with Epik High posters and notebooks lining the shelves of his bookshelf. You smiled at how distinctly Yoongi it felt. While it obvious his room hadn't changed much from when he first left home, you could still see hints of the man Yoongi would become. From the basketball trophies to the books about music production.
"Hey, I need to talk to you about something."
Yoongi's demeanor changed as he closed the door. "I got a text from Jihee earlier. She somehow got ahold of your shoes and posted with them. I sent everything to the company and I'm sure they will take care of it. I just wanted to warn you in case this blows up--"
"I trust you, Yoongi," you interrupted. "They've already said everything they could. It can't get worse than it already is and I know you'll do your best to take care of it."
You flopped down onto the bed and patted the bed beside you. Yoongi laid beside you. Your bodies were centimeters apart, but you didn't touch.
"Your parents didn't like Jihee, did they?"
Yoongi shook his head. "No," he said. "They tolerated her because I liked her, but they said they never pictured her as part of the family."
"Mine never liked Minki either." You were silent for a moment. "Maybe they knew somehow."
"Maybe," Yoongi said, his fingers brushing against yours. You turned and noticed he was still looking up at the ceiling, seemingly not noticing how his hand wandered to find yours. You wondered if it was a side effect of being soulmates. Your hands would always find each other.
The moment was severed when your phone rang. It was your mom and your stomach turned as you realized it was 5 am there.
"Hello?" You didn't care that Yoongi was in the room anymore. In fact, something kept you clinging to his hand.
"Sumi? You need to get here. Grandma's in the hospital and they don't think she has much time left. We're gonna leave her on life support until you get here because we know she would want you here. I don't know if it's possible without risking your own health and Grandma will understand--"
"No, I'm coming. I'll find a way. Give me a couple days. I'll be there, okay?" Your eyes were filled to the brim with tears and after you said your goodbyes, they rushed out. You weren't cognizant, but when you opened your eyes, you were folded into Yoongi's chest.
"Did you hear everything?"
Yoongi nodded. "I've already called a car to take us back. We'll be back in Seoul in a few hours."
"Yoongi, what are we going to do? You have a comeback soon. You can't just come with me to California."
"Shh, we'll figure it out. Just get your things together, okay?"
You nodded and got off the bed to collect your things. "Yoongi," your voice was still hoarse and barely there. "Thank you."

A Thousand Songs (Atem/Yami x Reader)
Chapter Five: Hello, My Old Heart
One /// Two /// Three /// Four /// Five /// (Six coming soon) ///
Summary: You knew that you and your band could make it big. Not only that, but stay together while doing it; the five of you were family, after all. The only problem was that despite all your musical talents...none of you were particularly good at lyrics. After years of struggling to put out your first full album, the solution finally made himself know in chance meeting on an empty stage.
Rock Band AU, Atem x Reader, gender neutral reader.
Tumblr media
You could visibly see the poor young man swallowing hard as he settled in the seat across from you and the rest of your bandmates. Try as you might to make the setting casual (cushy chairs instead of a desk, offers of soda and chips, greeting him with an ‘what’s up, my dude?’, etc.) Atem still seemed rather nervous. Not that you blamed him, you distinctly remember Honda making a joke about “oh yeah, ask the dude to come to our secluded studio by himself to meet five strangers, that’s not creepy or anything” when Yugi told you guys how he had invited the man to meet with the rest of you.
“So, Yugi said that you write songs as a hobby?” Anzu began, giving him the warmest smile she could, an effort to ease Atem’s mood.
He nodded, then started unclasping the latch on his leather messenger bag, “That’s right, I’ll admit, I don’t have too many that are finished, but that’s mostly due to boredom and moving on to a new idea, not lack of inspiration.” He then pulled out some papers divided by paperclips. “Here are the songs I think best represent my usual work, the work that’s easiest for me to write as well as what I would prefer to put out there.”
Honda grabbed the small stack and passed out songs to each of you. A bit of an awkward silence fell as you all started reading the various lyrics, but not even that could tarnish how impressed you were with the ones you were reading. Poetic, but not too over the top or pretentious, nice. You glanced up at the others, nodding your head with an impressed smile before switching papers with Yugi to look over another example (you also didn’t miss the way Yugi beamed at you). Now this song struck you, after only reading the first verse you could already hear the beginnings of a beat and chords you could put with the lyrics.
“Yugi also said you have a killer voice,” you said, shifting your eyes from the page to peer up at him.
He gave a cute little cough, “Uh, yes, I suppose I’m not a bad singer.”
You had to actively keep your mind from gushing over how sweet he was. The dude looked like a typical adonis hottie, but his shy outer demeanor just added an extra layer to him. He was wearing something more stylish than the few tabloid pics you’d seen: a long-sleeved black shirt with a silky maroon and gold vest, accessorized with a few rings, bangles, necklaces, and a pair of gold dangling earrings.
You shook the wandering thoughts on his attractiveness away; this was for business, not pleasure. “I was just wondering if you’d mind singing one of the songs for us, that way we can get a feel for the melody you had in mind.”
Again, Atem seemed to swallow something in this throat as a hand reached up to briefly play with one of the flat triangles dripping from his ears. “I suppose I could do that, but, do you mind if I play my violin with it? I’ll find it easier to sing with some music.”
“Of course,” you waved an eager hand, egging him on before handing him back the music sheet in your hand.
His eyes scanned the pages, reminding himself of what song it was before nodding his head and reaching down to the instrument case beside the armchair. Jonouchi had made a comment about Atem carrying his violin everywhere, trying to set a joking mood, but it just caused a flushed Atem to mumble about how he had just picked it up from getting its weekly tuning.
Once Atem was standing, violin in hand, he took a deep breath to collect himself. Then, after two slow heartbeats, he began to play.
The first note was a sorrowful one, long, like a quiet, mournful hum, his slender fingers pulsing to create a wave effect on the sound. Then he was singing. His tone came out like a deep, almost breathy moan, letting the lyrics flow like a story at first- before his tone rose and belted out the chorus.
Atem was captivating, pulling you in with every line, every inflection, making you want to hold your breath lest the sound of it distract from the song. He kept his eyes closed, lost in the music his hands and mouth crafted, and the longer the song went on the more he seemed to relax, to lean into his own notes.
You blinked suddenly, realizing that your mouth had been hanging open just in time to close it before Atem ended his performance on another soaring note and breathy lyric. He stayed like that for a moment, catching his breath, basking in the lingering sound of his song.
Finally, his eyes blinked open and shifted to gauge everyone’s reaction. You weren’t the only one left in awe.
“Holy shit,” Honda breathed.
Yugi’s beaming smile was at maximum sunshine as he leaned into you and whispered, “That’s the song I heard him sing at the theatre, isn’t it beautiful?!”
You nodded and opened your mouth to say something but Anzu beat you to it.
“Can you do that again?” she asked, eager, as she jumped up and walked to her keyboard.
“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” you asked, also bouncing to your feet and joining her.
Anzu smiled back at you, “Keeping that longer intro and adding keys to it?”
“Yes!” you turned to Jonouchi- who was still staring at Atem like he didn’t quite believe the man was standing there. “Jou, add some drums? Something steady and subtle at first, drawing everyone in before the lyrics start and-”
“-and picking up when the chorus kicks in?” he finished, snapping to attention in an instant, “You got it!”
With that Jonouchi vaulted off the back of the couch, plopping onto the stool at his drum set. Atem was still standing there, now looking a bit bewildered and amused as he watched everyone get to work, perhaps some pride shining in his eyes that his music had inspired it.
“Atem?” you asked, tone gentle and drawing his attention back to you, “Can you play that again?” you repeated Anzu’s question, seeing as how she was fully engrossed in her keys now.
Again, the man seemed hesitant, “Shouldn’t you be taking over, you’re the lead singer after all.”
“Dude, we have to keep that violin track,” you insisted, finding your voice breathy as you pointed at Atem, “It’s perfect for the song, it’s deep and beautiful and-” speechless, you gave an exaggerated chef’s kiss to emphasize just how much you meant what you were touting.
The expression earned you a smile from the violinist, a hint of bashfulness mixing with the fresh and rising pride. “Alright, if you think it will improve the song.” With that, Atem lifted his violin, took another deep breath, and started the song again.
***
It was strange how no hands had officially shaken, no one even told Atem he was hired, but that session was immediately followed up by the band asking when his next free day was and asking him to come back for another practice session. Atem had never intended on actually playing with the band, but, when they acted so enthralled with his playing, he could hardly say no.
The next time they got together (almost a week after their first meeting) Atem found himself just as nervous as when he first met them. Parking outside their studio, he found his chest heating up with some anxiety. Atem never was good around people, after all.
Hello, my old heart
How have you been?
Are you still there inside my chest?
He rubbed his hands against the steering wheel, letting out a long breath and holding it a moment, before making himself grab his violin case and climb out of the car. His feet crunching on the gravel driveway grounded him a bit and he had managed to calm down slightly before knocking on the studio door.
I've been so worried, you've been so still
Barely beating at all
He heard the sound of laughter coming closer on the other side of the door and a moment later it opened, revealing you in the doorway and more laughter echoing yours in the next room.
“Atem, there you are! Come on in,” you stepped aside and waved an inviting arm.
Atem felt the heat in his chest climb up his neck, “Sorry, am I late?”
“Huh?” You then waved your hand again as you shut the door behind him, “Oh no don’t worry, we just got here early, that’s all.”
He heard someone else call his name before he even got to the room where everyone was sitting, and by the time he did enter, the whole band was waving and greeting him. He cleared his throat before nodding back to everyone and saying a weak ‘hello’ before you spoke again.
“Come on, sit down and chill for a bit before we get started,” you waved at a beat-up arm chair even as you perched on its armrest.
Atem realized with a quick look around that there was nowhere better for you to sit and you were likely offering him your own seat. “Oh, that’s alright, I don’t want to steal your seat-”
Before his offer to sit on the floor was out, you shook your head, “Dude, we can’t have our muse sitting in a creaky fold-up chair, at least sit on the other arm so I don’t topple it!” You laughed again as Honda made some comment about how a topple would probably bust the thing in half.
His cheeks were hot now, but he took the offer with grace (or at least, as much grace as he could muster) and perched himself on the other armrest, setting his violin on the actual seat. Atem also remembered how last time, he had been offered the armchair while Anzu took the creaky fold-up chair. Everyone here really seemed to care about making him comfortable.
Hello, my old heart
It's been so long
Since I've given you away
When was the last time he met anyone who had greeted him with such...openness? Such compassion. And a whole group of someones at that...
He cleared his throat again, trying to draw himself out of his wandering thoughts. “So, are we just going to work out more of the music today?”
And every day, I add another stone
To the walls I built around you
To keep you safe
Everyone seemed to respect his want to get down to business, perhaps thinking that he had other engagements, and only chit-chatted for a handful of minutes, before getting down to their rehearsal. It went well, just as the previous session had, and Atem found himself in awe of how well the creative process of making notes together flowed. Just like that first day, everyone seemed to work off of each other so well, bounding ideas left and right, almost always being on the same page. Even when they weren’t, there were just a few goodhearted jabs and sighs before working everything out.
Again Atem found himself shaking his thoughts away. He really should stop, it wasn’t wise to get attached to this process, these sessions, these people. After all, he was just their ghostwriter, nothing more.
Oh, don't leave me here alone
Don't tell me that we've grown
For having loved a little while
He found himself smiling again despite himself, when you started throwing popcorn kernels at Jonouchi; retribution for a comment about how you needed to change the chords up in the third chorus.
“I’m not changing it,” you said with your tongue sticking out, all while Jou looked affronted at your kernel bombing. “It’s a steady beat, that’s the whole point! Right, Atem?”
At the sound of his name, Atem’s eyes went wide, “Uh- What?”
“Eh, don’t drag him to your side!” Jonouchi pouted, tossing some popcorn from his lap back in your direction.
“I’m not dragging, I’m asking his opinion, there’s a difference,” you said matter of factly, then turned back to Atem, who was sweating a bit now, “What do you think, Atem? Are the same chords during the third chorus too boring? Or does it fit the subtle, powerful nature of the song?”
“You’re leading his answer!” Jonouchi countered, again looking appalled, then squawking as you tossed more popcorn at him.
Atem was a bit distracted by the way Honda kept laughing as Jou picked kernels out of his shirt, but eventually he managed to swallow thickly and answer your question. “I actually like the way you have it now, if I’m being honest.”
You beamed at him, stuck your tongue out at Jonouchi in victory, then held the popcorn bowl out to Atem. “Thank you, my muse! Here, have some brain food.”
His face was heating up again at nickname- or, dare he say, endearment? However, even as he blushed, and took a handful of popcorn, he couldn’t keep that smile from making yet another appearance.
Oh, I don't wanna be alone
I wanna find a home
And I wanna share it with you
When everyone called the day's session to an end, Atem tried not to feel...disappointed. Stop that , he told himself again, this was not something to get attached to. As everyone packed their notes away, Honda started asking about dinner.
“Heeey if I give you a ride to work, think you can get me a discount on nachos again?” he asked, turning to you with an eyebrow wiggle.
You scoffed, “Dude, the boss was barely okay with that one time I did it, I can’t convince her again. But I can just buy your nachos if you really want.”
“Where do you work?” Atem found himself asking, far too late to stop himself from getting involved.
“Oh- ever heard of The Mark? It’s a bar downtown.”
Atem shook his head, feeling a bit embarrassed. Admittedly, the only bar he had been in since college was the high-end one in his apartment building.
You didn’t seem to take notice of his embarrassment though and just shrugged, “It’s only popular to a certain crowd. Anyway,” you continued, turning back to Honda, “give me a ride and I’ll buy you nachos.”
“Okay, all this talk of nachos has me hungry,” Jonouchi groaned, “Let’s go with em, Yug.”
Anzu perked up at that, nodding to you as she said, “You know, I’ve really been craving your specialty daiquiris. Jou, got room in your truck for me?”
“Sure,” the drummer shrugged as everyone started milling towards the door.
Yugi was smiling brightly as he held the door open for everyone, “Guess it’s a band outing now! Atem, you want to join? You can follow us to the bar, it isn’t far.”
As his feet were once again crunching on the gravel drive, Atem had to stop. He looked back to the group, ready to see at least one of them giving an uneasy expression at the invitation, if not an outright protest.
Instead, he saw Anzu nodding her head eagerly while Honda locked up the studio. Neither you nor Jonouchi looked wary of the suggestion and instead just looked to him for an answer.
You must have thought he needed further prompting, because you said, “Hey, our ‘girls night’ plate of nachos is more than big enough for all of you.”
Atem had to swallow another something in his throat. All of you were already inviting him out for drinks?
Hello, my old heart
How have you been?
“I- sorry, I have to get up early in the morning. Thank you, though.” Atem could only cast his eyes to the ground during the half-lie.
How is it being locked away?
He saw something flicker in Yugi’s eyes, but he was quick to hide it with a smile. “Okay, maybe next time.”
Your smile matched Yugi’s as everyone headed to Jou’s truck and Honda’s bike, “Have a good night, Atem.”
Don't you worry, in there you're safe
“See you next week,” Anzu waved.
All he could manage was a nod as he turned towards his own car.
And it's true, you'll never beat
But you'll never break
It only took one more session to get the rest of the music figured out, and then it was time to record. Atem was interested in the process, how the five of you set up the sound equipment, what programs you used, he even asked you how you had installed padding to improve the sound quality.
The video part of the recording would be left for later, right now it was just the song to worry about- though you did make a point to tell Atem that you wanted to discuss setting ideas for the video soon. Atem felt his heart swell a bit at that. Not that he wanted to admit it, but he was glad that you wanted to involve him in every step of the song. This song in particular, this first one that had so enthralled Yugi first, was likely one of the more personal ones Atem had written.
Your voice rose with the chorus, fingers dancing gracefully against the bridge of the guitar, and Atem found himself admiring how well suited your voice was to his lyrics. A perfect fit. Though you likely had no way of knowing the background behind this song or why Atem had written it, you belted the lyrics with passion and depth, cared for every bar as if you were singing from the depths of your heart.
Maybe you were. Music spoke to more than just those who wrote it, perhaps not in the same ways, but that hardly mattered.
He heard the way the ending lyric stole your breath, and his violin hummed its final note with you in a harmony Atem had admired a dozen times during these rehearsals. When the last note ended, everyone waited a moment, seeming to hold their breaths, before daring to move. When everyone did, Jonouchi was already bounding over to the computer hooked up to the recording mics. With a few clicks and a quick look over something on the screen, the blonde gave a clap of his hands.
“We got it! That should be all we need for a high quality recording.”
Everyone cheered or hooted at that, and Yugi made a comment about finally having something new to give their fans. Atem was smiling with the rest of them, but he was failing to ignore the way his chest ached just a bit. The song was done, and, unless they asked him to join them on stage, Atem supposed this was the last time he would play with the band.
Writing songs for them was all nice in of itself, but, despite all his personal warnings not to, he would be lying if he said he hadn’t grown a bit attached to these evenings and nights with the band.
Oh, I don't wanna be alone
I wanna find a home
And I wanna share it with you
A sudden call of his name had Atem jolting back to the present, and he saw you standing beside him, a hint of concern creasing your brow. “Everything okay?”
“Uh-” he cleared his throat, “-yes, I’m alright,” he lied, just as he had lied to deny himself the after-work drinks weeks ago. “I was just thinking, we got so caught up in recording this song, that none of you got the chance to discuss if any others were to your liking.”
“What, any of your other songs?” Honda asked, and when Atem nodded, he literally waved the comment off, “Dude, I’m pretty sure we liked all the examples you gave us, right guys?”
“Definitely!” Yugi didn’t miss the chance to boost Atem’s ego (or rather, soothe any worries). “We actually looked over your other songs the other day, and all of us agree we want to record all of them. I told you you were a perfect fit for us!”
The words, as well as the wink Yugi gave, did make Atem smile, but it didn’t do much to alleviate the root of his woe. “I’m glad they fit with the band so well. If you want to know the melodies or themes I had in mind for any of the other songs as well, please don’t hesitate to ask.”
That seemed to give everyone pause.
Nothing lasts forever
Atem watched as they began giving each other looks, very pointed looks, in turns, and he couldn’t ignore the sinking sensation in his chest. They seemed to silently agree on something a moment later, because Anzu spoke up as her eyes turned back to Atem.
“Actually, we were talking about that a lot too…”
Some things aren't meant to be
Atem swallowed hard, heart starting to pound in his ears. Perhaps he wasn’t good enough, perhaps they thought him too pretentious, or maybe he had overstepped the boundaries of his role here, maybe he and his violin didn’t-
“How would you feel about joining the band for the whole album?”
But you'll never find the answers
Until you set your old heart free
Again, your voice put a break on Atem’s reeling thoughts, and he had to blink to collect himself again. “I- you mean, you want me to play for the other songs as well?”
More looks were exchanged, quick ones this time, before Yugi chimed in next. “We talked it over a lot the past week and we all agree that you gel with us pretty well! And not only that, but your violin really adds a lot to our music, we’d really love for you to record more songs with us, not just write them.”
Until you set your old heart free
Now Atem’s heart was pounding in his ears for a whole other reason. He almost wanted to smack himself when he felt the widest, most giddy grin he ever remembered smiling spread across his face.
“I would like that very much,” he said, cheeks going a bit warm when everyone was returning his smile.
Hello, my old heart
“So what are we waitin’ for?” Jonouchi jumped in, all enthusiasm and eagerness, “What song are we doing next?”
That sparked conversation, and everyone started chiming in with their votes almost immediately, Yugi and Anzu even digging out Atem’s sheet music for references. Atem could only take the scene in with a smile that was widening the more he watched them bicker good-heartedly.
And he was glad he had gotten attached to this process, these sessions, to these people.
I wanna share it with you

꠵ look at me : chapter six ꠵
カレー。
Tumblr media
"Oomph." Oikawa sighed, inhaling the crisp, freshly washed scent of the plain grey bedsheets that covered Iwaizumi's mattress. He grabbed a fistful of the fabric, just breathing in the fumes. He heard the faint pitter patter of rain splashing the windows. The sun had long since hidden behind the clouds, no longer illuminating the planet, instead casting a greyish hue over Japan. It cast sort of a miserable feeling; Iwaizumi and Oikawa were planning on hanging out with Matsukawa and Hanamaki after watching the matches, but the plans were cancelled due to the shitty weather. "Shit. Shit. Shit, shit, shit." Oikawa grumbled, grabbing one of Iwaizumi's pillows and screaming into it. "Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit!"
"That's, what, your ninety-seventh shit today?" A muffled voice wafted its' way through to the chocolate-haired boy's ears, as they were currently covered tightly with the soft pillow. Oikawa sat up on his elbows, blinked, and let his face contort into a pout.
Wiping the tears from his eyes, which hadn't streamed down his cheeks yet, he turned away from the latter, huffing. "Yeah, well. You swear all the time. Why can't I?"
"It's not that you're not allowed to. It's just that you don't." Oikawa felt the bed dip as Iwaizumi sat opposite from him, letting out another puff of air as the green-eyed third year leaned onto his back. Bara arms snaked their way around his somewhat thin waist, reminding him that he hadn't eaten anything, except for the milk bread Hanamaki had bought him earlier today. To prove his point, his stomach growled. Iwaizumi leaned over, propping himself up on one elbow, an eyebrow raised as he looked at his best friend.
Oikawa sighed, smiling sheepishly. "Sorry. Forgot." He already knew what the other was thinking. Iwaizumi's way of communicating with Oikawa was mainly with his eyes. Those little green orbs that stood out in contrast against caramel skin, connected with honey-brown ones, a wavelength passing through. Unspoken words made a conversation.
Breaking eye-contact, Iwaizumi rolled off the bed, hopping to his feet. "I'll get you something to eat. What'd ya want?"
"Milk bread?"
"You're addicted. I'm cooking you some curry." The door clicked as Iwaizumi closed it behind him. Oikawa groaned, flipping the latter off once the door had shut.
Iwaizumi knelt down by the cabinets, opening the oak doors and peering inside to look for a pot. A hand reached past Iwaizumi's, grabbing the pot that the latter couldn't find. "Here." Oikawa handed him the pot, and went to sit on a stool at the island counter.
"Huh. I thought you were gonna take a nap." Iwaizumi started, grabbing the curry powder from the top cabinet above the marbled counters. Oikawa shrugged, stretching his arms out and resting his head on the counter.
"I wanted to watch you make my food. I can't have you poisoning me now, can I?" Iwaizumi scoffed at this, his smile decreasing slowly as he heard Oikawa mutter under his breath, "That and I can't sleep without you there with me, nowadays." A blush slowly rose to his cheeks, and the ace slapped himself with both hands, internally groaning. "What, can't find something?"
Iwaizumi quickly shook his head, grabbing the rest of the ingredients. "No, I got it. Don't mind."
Oikawa nodded, pulling out his phone to pass the time. A finger hovered over the photo album app he had on his phone, and he clicked it, scrolling through the countless of photos so he could start looking at them at the very beginning. The first picture was the one his teacher took of him holding his award from Kitagawa Daiichi, with Iwaizumi standing behind him, a smile on both of their faces. Oikawa snorted, he never noticed Iwaizumi's smile in the photo before.
"What's so funny?" Iwaizumi asked, while stirring the curry together in a bowl. Padding over to the other side of the kitchen, he leaned over the counter to look at Oikawa's phone. The latter turned it so it was facing Iwaizumi, showing him the iconic memory of their younger selves. "Oh, I remember that. You actually smiled."
"What do you mean? I always smile."
"Not sincerely." Iwaizumi deadpanned, walking over to the stove and turning the knobs. "I said that back in Kitagawa, right?"
Oikawa pondered over this for a moment, before smiling and giving him a kurt nod. "Yeah, you did."
"Anyways." Iwaizumi poured the contents into the pot on the stove, taking out a wooden spoon to scrape out any remaining ingredients. "I've been meaning to ask you."
"Mhm?"
"How long have your parents been hitting you?"
Oikawa stiffened, unable to give him an answer. Iwaizumi turned the knob to low-heat, so the curry wouldn't burn as he gave his full attention to the setter sitting before him. "I'm not stupid. This has been going on for a while, hasn't it?"
"Iwa, it's nothing like that."
"Oikawa." Iwaizumi looked into the brown pools of color, giving him a little smile. "It's okay if you don't want to tell me just yet, but I need to know eventually. I want to help you in any way I can." Oikawa looked down at his slippers, unable to meet his friend's gaze. All he could do was helplessly listen as Iwaizumi assured him he wasn't angry with Oikawa for not being able to tell him, and that everything was alright.
He didn't look up from his slippers until he heard the knob turn, and the familiar sound of a spoon scraping the side of a pot. Letting out a breath he didn't know he was holding, Oikawa watched the muscles in Iwaizumi's back flex as he stirred the curry into a bowl, slicing up some bread to go along with it. "Hey, do you want some lemon as well?"
Oikawa nodded. "I can make it." He padded over to the fridge, pulling out a lemon. Iwaizumi nodded, passing him a bowl and a knife.
"Don't cut yourself."
"I know, Iwa-chan. I'm not completely helpless in the kitchen, you brute." Oikawa rolled his eyes, slicing the lemon in half and squeezing the juice into the two bowls. He reached up to grab the salt in one of the cabinets, swishing the bowls around once he had added the substance in. He set them next to the curry that now rested on the island counter, the juice inside settling as it stilled. "Ooh, it looks really good."
Iwaizumi nodded. "Yeah, whatever." He shoveled a couple spoonfuls in his mouth as he watched Oikawa clasp his hands together, thanking Iwaizumi for the food before actually taking a bite himself. Oikawa winced as the sudden motion of him opening his still bruised jaw sent waves of pain through his nerves, but the curry sitting in his mouth and sliding down his throat made up for that.
"Whoa. What did you put in this? It's almost like it's healing me." Oikawa smiled with his eyes closed, clearly in euphoria. Iwaizumi shrugged, lopping another spoonful of curry into his mouth.
"It's a recipe my mother made. It has some herbs and spices that are supposed to relieve pain and stress, so I added some extra into it. It's not too spicy, is it?"
Oikawa shook his head, breaking off a piece of bread and dipping it into the lemon sauce, then into the curry. "Nope, tastes amazing."
"Good."
The two sat in silence as they ate, finishing the curry in under fifteen minutes. Oikawa had offered to wash the dishes, but Iwaizumi sent him a glare before grabbing the bowls out of the latter's hands and started to rinse them himself. As he washed the curry off the bowls, Oikawa collapsed onto the couch, mindlessly scrolling through TV channels. He tuned in to an extra-terrestrial documentary, watching profusely as Iwaizumi continued washing the dishes. Once the latter had finished, he dried his hands and plopped down next to Oikawa, grabbing a fluffy off-white blanket and flinging it over them. Both boys subconsciously snuggled closer to each other, their body heat combining.
Iwaizumi looked over at Oikawa a couple times as the documentary played. Occasionally, when an especially interesting moment popped up on the television, the setter would let out a small gasp between his pursed lips. He did that a couple times, and Iwaizumi couldn't help but grow fond of the facial expression the latter made in that moment. The sheer excitement vibrating off of Oikawa's face brightened Iwaizumi's mood, making the corners of his lips tilt upwards slightly.
⊱ ─ ‧̥̥͙⋅. ♔ .⋅‧̥̥͙ ─ ⊰
"Mattsun, I just don't know what's going on." Iwaizumi pinched the bridge of his nose, Oikawa sound asleep beside him as he conversed on the phone with the other third-year. "I- just- what the hell?"
Matsukawa let out a breath, lips pursed. Iwaizumi could almost see the smirk forming on the latter's face, even if he was about a couple neighborhoods away from him. "Yeah, man, you're completely and utterly whipped."

Seventeen were actually really important both in getting me into K-pop, and just my life in general and I do still really love their music, even though I wouldn't put them on my top 6 groups anymore. I was lukewarm to starting to get interested in K-pop (and also it was another difficult time in my life. I'm just realizing now that I've been responding to difficult times by getting into new K-pop groups for about four years now) and I'd heard a couple of their songs, and was neutral towards them (I've never really been one for the "cute/bright concepts), but then my brother showed me Healing and everything changed. I just sat down and started crying. That one song from a group I was neutral towards was exactly what I needed to hear at that part of my life. (on a personal note, this is how I realized I needed therapy)
Wow. uh. Yeah that was a little personal, but I want to share my own experience with the artists you like! I guess my relationship with Seventeen is just something special and personal. Anyway. TXT. I knew about TXT from debut, and I thought Crown was interesting, if not the kind of music or concept I'd listen to regularly (and the Nap of a Star m/v was fascinating and completely unexpected), and I guess I was looking somewhere else when Runaway happened? Anyway, then there was Dream Chapter: Eternity. And wow. That was something else entirely. I loved every song from that album. Then I was originally ambivalent toward Blue Hour (with the exception of We Lost The Summer, that song really hit me in the face), and with the Chaos Chapter: Freeze, I decided to start actively following and looking into them. I think that right now, the only reason they're not among my ults is that I'm not familiar enough with them, and I intend to change that in the near future.
As I said in an earlier ask, I'm not really familiar with Sam Kim. I kind of know him by reputation? I know a lot of people like him, and he does seem like a solid artist, but I just haven't really looked into him.
I went into this thinking I would mention Onewe, Purple Kiss, and E'Last all at once, but this ask has already gotten really long just from talking about my relationship with Seventeen and TXT, so I'll just cover Onewe for now, and talk about Purple Kiss and E'Last later.
I first found Onewe through their Parting m/v, around when it came out in mid-late 2020 and wow. The emotional impact was incredible, I loved their voices, and I have a nostalgic soft spot for rock anyway, so it was the perfect song! (also they released a "Halloween version" of Parting, and even that was beautiful) Unfortunately, I didn't really feel like getting into another group when they were first on my mind, so I put off looking deeper for a while, but I did come back to Parting every so often. But then earlier this year, well, if you actively stan Oneus or Onewe, there's a good chance you'll end up at least knowing something about the other (Not only are they under the same company, but they promoted together before debut, and Xion, Oneus's maknae, and Dongmyeong, Onewe's keyboardist are twins! They still show up to each other's activities to support each other, which I just find super sweet). They started showing up in my recommendations more, I listened to all their songs and watched everything with subs from their channel, looked up Oneus and Onewe's debut project, and they were just ult material. They don't have as many songs as other artists who've been around for the same amount of time, but every one of their songs is solid and distinctive, although they do have a consistent sound and some recurring lyrical themes (space and memories take center stage in two title tracks each), but that's to be expected when they write their own songs, with the same few instruments in mind.
I totally understand music helping you through things and I'm glad that you feel comfortable enough to tell me about it. I know it's not always easy to share things that personal but I really appreciate it. It's nice that seventeen was able to help you through that time and that healing could be a bit healing for you. (sorry bad joke) I also appreciate you mentioning your relationship with my groups as well!! It's nice to hear others stories about my favorite groups!!
You mentioned not being one for "bright/cute concepts" and that's mostly what I enjoy lol. I think it really shows how music can be subjective and people can enjoy different songs from artists regardless of their main concept or theme, especially for kpop.
I knew about Oneus and Onewe having twins!! That was one of the facts about the groups that I remembered from the little research I did when Oneus debuted. It's cool that Onewe has a recurring lyrical theme! It makes it feel like they put a lot of effort into their music!! It's always cool when groups write their own music and are able to direct the message their music is giving to people. I guess I like seventeen for the same reason since they make their own music as well.
In order to keep my response relatively short (and so we can have more to talk about over later messages) I'll talk about how I found verivery and onf and save treasure and lucy for later!! These two groups are kinda related because I found them at the same time. As I mentioned in my last response, I was really into trying to keep up with debuts for a while and it just so happened that during that time both verivery and onf debuted. I had seen their debuts and liked them both (they fit the bright concepts) but never got super into either of them. They both fell off my radar after awhile until they participated in Road to Kingdom!!! I was stunned by onf's stages on the show!! You mentioned liking dramatic music and theatrics well that's exactly what their performances were!!! I was blown away and wanted to give their music another listen and I can honestly say, they are BY FAR the kpop group with THE BEST DISCOGRAPHY!! At least in my opinion. None of their songs are a skip for me, I love every single one!! And verivery was more on the softer side but I really like that so I enjoyed their performances, especially in contrast to the other groups who were doing darker themes. Again, I gave their music a second chance and fell in love with it as well. I ended up buying both groups entire album collection in one go and now I'm following their new releases!! By the way, onf is having a comeback next month and I'm SOOOO excited!!! (so is txt)
I'm excited to hear about your other favorite artists!!!

Hi!!! This ask will probably be all over the place but I wanted to reply! Sorry it's kinda late..like not right away like I hoped but I also wanted to give the tracks a few more listens before saying my opinion. I also meant to send one before 9 simply saying enjoy listening! But then I didn't wanna risk any lyric spoilers since it was already like 9:30..lol. I actually did not get around listening to it until midnight.
I would love a live album of surprise songs on tour, and I like the version of Cruel Summer on tour when she adds the with you near the end. I love mosaic broken hearts too..I think the whole song flows really well but I love the beat and drums of the original over the acoustic. She also doesn't really have another song that sounds like it. I was also shocked there weren't as many mashups on tour, but I do like how it is. I also did not expect her to go era by era but I think that might be a reason there's less mashups too. The tour is almost more theatrical than previous tours and that's something I like about it.
Holly's album is good but I also think Cocoon is one of my favorites after hearing it more and I can't believe I didn't list that one. The OC lyric really stands out lol. Maybe I confused it with another song at first but I mostly agree with you about the album and I do like all the songs. Idk when I will hear it again though with 1989 out.
Haha I did hear that about Jordan Fisher a lot too so I hope he can handle the role. I liked him from what I heard from him in Dear Evan Hansen and Sweeney Todd but Orpheus is pretty different vocally, but I hope he's good. When are you seeing it on tour? I loved the Come From Away proshot so I hope you get a chance to watch it sometime. I'm sure Sara is amazing since she wrote the music so I hope to watch it. I think Newsies will always be my favorite proshot though lol. I do not know much about the little women musical actually and am having a hard time imagining it as a musical lol. If you like it, it's probably a pretty good adaptation though. With Gatsby, I think it's hard cuz I just read the reviews of people that went apparently and everyone will like different things so idk if it makes that much of a difference yet. I totally relate to not watching a lot though..cuz my sister and I were just looking at a list of musicals we watched..like bootlegs or movies, and there was only like 5 or 6 including live performances in the last year and a half..lol.
So the book I started the other day was Tomorrow Tomorrow Tomorrow..cuz I read you were not liking it and I wanted to see what I thought. Idk how much that you read but I only read 2 chapters and the main thing that stuck out to me was it being in 3rd person. That will take getting used to for me cuz I honestly can't remember the last time I read a book in 3rd person lol. But if you don't like it so far, then I will start and focus on the Night Circus..but I actually think thats in 3rd person too haha. Ooh maybe I will try to find The Starless Sea cuz I do like reading authors books at the same time and comparing them. Which one is your favorite out of the two? I will try to keep that in mind about the timeline..thank you for letting me know!
I do love the Midnight Rain part of the show with the umbrellas so I don't mind it on the setlist. It did remind me of the How You Get the Girl performance from the 1989 tour..which was one of my favorites! I do think Midnights and 1989 are definitely the most similar more than rep or Lover but I can't really explain why. This became clear with the vault tracks in a way too..based on sound. But we actually listened to Maisie first! This vault it seemed clear why songs were left out. I didn't have an obvious favorite and some of the songs seemed a little off from verse to chorus..like they just didn't flow well, but I really enjoyed the last two songs which almost had an older Maisie style. Unfortunately I've only heard these songs once so far, so my opinions could change. What did you think?
I think this rerecording is one of the best cuz I can barely hear a lot of differences in the original songs. Like How You Get the Girl Shake it Off and I Know Places seem pretty identical to me, but I wouldn't look for differences that much either. I did notice the blank space drum seems pretty loud and noticeable throughout the song when I heard it again. I listened on shuffle and I think it really worked for 1989.
Omg you were right about the coffee lyric being from is it over now?! These songs actually did have a slower dreamy sound more than I thought..which was surprising to me. At first, the songs didn't feel that 1989 to me for that reason, but they also did in a way. Now that We Don't Talk kinda sounded like I Wish You Would and Is it Over Now definitely reminds me of Our of the woods. So the order I heard the songs in, mixed between original songs, were Now that we don't Talk, Say Don't Go, Suburban Legends, Slut! And Is it Over Now..and I wonder if that affected my impressions. Honestly I did not have an immediate favorite..like how I pretty much liked Speak Now vaults instantly..so maybe the sound just threw me off at first. I've still been listening on shuffle and it seems like they do fit 1989 after more listens and have grown on me. My favorites are "Slut and Say Don't Go and Suburban Legends. Slut is the dreamy sound I was predicting but I didn't think it would be this song lol but I love it! Then Say Don't Go does sound kinda like a slow 80s ballad too with more listens. Suburban Legends was a fun upbeat song and still different than the original album. Now that we Don't Talk has grown on me with more listens and I really like the way she sings some parts of the song. I was most surprised or disappointed with Is it Over Now. Some of that is lyrics that shocked me but the song is just okay.I think cuz I was expecting some deeper song like Clean and it did not fit as a closer at all, even if she said why she chose it there. It felt short and even after a few listens, I have a hard time remembering it..but I do think it's very 1989. One of my favorite songs ever is called I Know it's over by the Smiths and maybe I was expecting something like that based on the title and this was not that at all..there's no longing in the song either so I was wrong based on the coffee lyric..but its growing on me more. Okay what did you think???
Yes I play it daily with my family and sometimes it's hard but other times it's easier. That could be cuz I have help though. Is it mostly easy for you or sometimes difficult? I also do wordle spelling bee and the mini. Well I don't really have any plans since I went to Les Mis last week so This weekend I might just watch a few sort of spooky movies, not scary, before Halloween and listen to 1989TV of course!!! What are your plans? I hope you have a great weekend friend! 🩷
hi hi friend!! i hope you had a good weekend! did you watch any good movies? i am not a scary movie watcher, but i did really enjoy happy death day, which i watched with my friend jamie a while ago! my weekend was okay, just hectic, but i didn't get a ton of time to read as a result!
i love the way she says PROVE IT in the eras film/in that audio; it scratches an itch in my brain haha. the other day i literally had "PROVE IT" stuck in my head, not even any cruel summer lyric, just the specific way she said PROVE IT. i do agree it feels a lot more theatrical than other ones (except maybe speak now)! i also didn't expect her to go era by era, but i'm glad that she did!
"i've been paralyzed for more than a week but don't let you scare you this is fairly routine" and "i've become a taxidermy version of myself" are some of my favorite lyrics on the album; it's why i immediately latched onto cocoon, i think (although i had heard a snippet of cocoon earlier and had already loved it).
i'm seeing hadestown on tour next saturday! i am just so, so excited!! this is going to be my mom's first time seeing it, so i hope she likes it! i haven't watched a bunch of bootlegs lately, but i do have some saved that i've been meaning to watch!
i really struggled with tomorrow x3 — i don't know why! i am fine with 3rd person, but i just really struggled with that one. night circus and starless sea are both in 3rd person — and i love them both a LOT! they do take some time to get into though, so take your time!! the starless sea is my favorite out of the two, but the night circus is more romantasy!
i loveeeeeed the maisie vaults! i've been listening to them nonstop, i think my ranking is: yoko → truth is → the last one → the song → holy revival → guy on a horse but i love all of them!! holy revival definitely grew on me, i was worried i wouldn't like it but i actually love it! i also miss older maisie music; i wonder if she'll ever release some of the things she's teased :( (probably not, but one can hope)
i was also surprised by "slut!"; i think everyone was! i think my favorite is now that we don't talk, or suburban legends, or is it over now? but i'm not really sure — i wasn't immediately attached to any songs like i was fearless vault, red vault or speak now vault, and i've mostly been listening to good witch deluxe! the way she sings "oh lorddddd" is so good! i was also expecting something more similar in sound to clean, or this love, and was surprised by the sounds but it is growing on me a lot more!
sometimes it's difficult! i usually do it right when i wake up — or if i wake up in the middle of the night — but sometimes i'll look at it and just close out of the tab and forget to do it till later, if i do! i used to do wordle but haven't in a while, and sometimes i'll do the spelling bee or the mini if i'm bored but i am definitely more of a sudoku girlie than i am a crossword one!
hope you have a good week ahead 🤍 🤍

꠵ look at me : chapter three ꠵
俗語。
Tumblr media
"Mmm." Oikawa's chocolate colored eyes fluttered open, taking in the sunlight leaking in from behind the blinds. The first thing he noticed as he woke up was the fact that-
This isn't my room. The third-year setter sat up abruptly, looking around frantically. Was I kidnapped? Where am I? Where's Iwa-chan? Last thing I remember was- just then, his eyes laid to rest on a sleeping Iwaizumi, who had come to rest right next to him. He had his brawny arms around Oikawa's waist, his leg flung over like he was holding a big stuffed animal. A blush rose in Oikawa's cheeks, as he diverted his attention to anything but him. C'mon. Look somewhere else. Don't look at his cute- I mean- stupid face. He's going to kill you when he wakes up.
Oikawa tried slipping out of Iwaizumi's grasp, but failed miserably. Each time he got close to freeing himself, the other would groan and pull him closer. After a couple minutes of losing this miniature battle with Iwaizumi, he gave up and reached for his phone on the nightstand. The device turned on in his hand automatically since it sensed the motion, and a bunch of messages popped up on his lockscreen.
4 messages from ✨ Makki ✨
2 messages from ✬ Mattsun ✬
7 messages from ♡ Rooster-head ♡
Oikawa sighed, rubbing his temples. Just looking at the messages gives me a headache. He clicked on Kuroo's messages, not wanting to leave him waiting for the setter's reply any longer.
. .
[from] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: oi, oikawa [from] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: how's it going [from] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: hey [from] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: you [from] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: heyyyyy [from] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: you there? [from] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: i heard what happened, how you holdin' up?
[to] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: hey, kuroo. i'm fine, thanks for worrying though!
[from] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: and that is how i know you're not fine- [from] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: you're using punctuation.
[to] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: u H- why can't i use proper punctuation?

[to] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: maybe, i dunno though. i hope karasuno n shiratorizawa both fail, though
[from] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: LMAO you're messed up
[to] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: could say the same about you
[from] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: ah, got me there. i'll text you a restaurant location after my matches.[from] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: udon or ramen
[to] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: udon
[from] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: alright. i'll find someplace [from] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: imma get ready, ttyl
[to] ♡ʀᴏᴏꜱᴛᴇʀ-ʜᴇᴀᴅ♡: bye.
. .
Oikawa sighed once again, scrolling through the other messages he had from Matsukawa and Hanamaki. They didn't really differ from each other : it was just them asking where to meet up later for the qualifiers. He quickly texted them both an answer, saying Iwa would pick them up.
"Mmm." Iwaizumi groaned, making Oikawa's eyes flick over to his friend's face. "Oh. Morning, Kawa."
"Morning." Oikawa hummed in response, setting his phone aside to give Iwaizumi a quick hug. "Get ready, you're going to pick up Makki and Mattsun to watch the rest of the matches." Iwaizumi lifted his arm so Oikawa could leave his warm embrace, and blushed a bit when the setter started taking off his clothes.
"T-trashykawa, the hell are you doing?"
He turned around. "Changing. Is it okay if I use some of your clothes again? I'll wash them as soon as we get back, I promise. I just need something to wear when I walk home."
Iwaizumi nodded quickly. "Sure, whatever, just- hurry up and change already." A couple minutes passed of Oikawa looking through his closet when the gears in Iwaizumi's head started shifting. "Wait, walk home?"
Oikawa turned around, pulling on one of Iwaizumi's large Godzilla sweatshirts. "Mhm. My parents are already worried enough as is, I need to get home before they get even more pissed at me." He pulled off his shorts to reveal regular black boxer briefs, which caught Iwaizumi by surprise. He would've expected him to have alien-themed underwear. "I know it's not the smartest idea to be going home right now, that's why I'm just going to get some clothes and head out. I already called my brother, he said I can stay with him for a little while."
Iwaizumi's mouth formed an 'o' shape. "When are you moving in with him?"
"He'll be back in town next week. So, around then." Oikawa clucked his tongue, something suddenly coming to mind. "Oh, I forgot to tell you, I'm going to an udon restaurant with Kuroo after his matches are over. Do you want to come with?"
"Sure." Iwaizumi stood up, changing into some clothes as well. As he was shrugging his jeans-jacket over his hoodie, he looked at Oikawa with an unreadable expression on his face. "You going to be okay? I can come with you when you're at your parent's house."
Oikawa waved his hands in dismissal. "No, no, that's okay. I think that'll just set them off again." He put his hands up over his head, stretching and cracking a couple of joints in the process. At every pop Iwaizumi flinched : ever since Oikawa's knee injury, he's been worried about every little unnatural noise that emitted from his bones and the rest of his body. Iwaizumi didn't want another repeat.
"Why would it set them off? They like me, right?"
"Of course they do. They'll probably assume I told you everything and that you're only there to call the cops on them and stuff." Oikawa shrugged. "Something like that. Don't mind, Iwa-chan."
Iwaizumi pouted a little bit, crossing his arms over his chest. "Fine. Call me if your folks try anything."
Oikawa smiled brightly at him, and it almost seemed like he was glowing. Like he was the sun itself. "Of course, Iwa."
⊱ ─ ‧̥̥͙⋅. ♔ .⋅‧̥̥͙ ─ ⊰
Water lopped at Oikawa's shoes as he started the tedious trek towards home. The faint pshhhhhh reached his ears, the rain splashing in puddles and lifting Oikawa's spirits. Normally, he hates rain since it usually meant practice would end way earlier then it was supposed to, but he liked walking in the rain, he liked the sound and the smell of the fresh dew. 'I should take Iwa-chan to the park next time it rains,' Oikawa thought. 'He'd like it, right?'
Once he reached his fairly-nice home, he shoved the key into the keyhole, jiggling the knob a little so it would unlock. The lock was a little stiff, so it needed a little push now and then. Once the door had swung open, he called out, trying to see if anyone was home. No answer. Good, I don't have to talk to the old man tonight. He skipped to his room, pulling a backpack out from his closet, as well as his gym bag, and starting packing. Clothes, some stuffies Iwa-chan had got him when they were younger, and the award he received back when he was at Kitagawa Daiichi were all set on the bed before he had to set them in the bag. He pulled one of the pillow sheets off of the pillow on his bed, wrapping the fabric around the award carefully. He didn't want it to get scratched or damaged in any other way when it was in his bag.
He pulled off the sweatshirt and shorts he borrowed from Iwa, dressing up in a white button-up shirt, and a creme-colored vest. He shrugged into a navy-blue suit top, pulling on a pair of brown khakis afterward.
Oikawa put on a pair of glasses, looking into the mirror and styling his hair a little bit. Not bad. Pulling out his phone, he sent a quick text to Iwaizumi, telling him he was ready to be picked up. The latter replied with a "👍," and Oikawa turned off his phone. He looked around his room a little more, packing up anything he might want to take with him. A photo album, his and Iwa's old shared journal, some picture frames containing priceless memories, and many other little trinkets he was given over the years.
A couple of minutes after he had set everything he wanted to take with him in his bag, he heard a loud honk in his driveway. That must be Iwa-chan!, Oikawa thought, grabbing his backpack and his gym bag, racing to the front door. Sure enough, Iwaizumi's car was parked out front, the man himself leaning on the hood. He perked up once he heard Oikawa's front door click shut, smiling a little bit at the sight before clearing his throat and glaring at the setter.
"About time." He muttered, causing Oikawa to roll his eyes a little.
"I didn't take that long." The latter retorted, opening the trunk and setting his belongings in carefully. "You waited for like, two minutes."
Iwaizumi scoffed. "So? I still have to pick up Matsukawa and Hanamaki."
"Mm."
The two third-years hopped in the car, putting on their seatbelts. Iwaizumi turned the key fob, making the engine start to sputter before it leveled out, and backed out of the driveway. Oikawa looked at the dash, noticing a phone propped up with the Maps app open and directing him. "You don't know where Makki and Mattsun live?"
"No, of course not. I've never been to either of their houses before." He replied, glancing at Oikawa. "Also, you look nice."
Oikawa turned to face him, his cheeks matching Iwa's. Both boys' faces were flushed, and they both seemed to turn their heads away from each other in unison when they noticed this. "Thanks." Oikawa mumbled a reply, twirling a lock of hair around his index finger. Iwaizumi smiled at this action. It was almost childish, and he was glad Oikawa hadn't changed at much as he thought he did.
"I haven't?" Iwaizumi snapped back to reality as Oikawa said this.
"Huh?"
"You said I didn't change all that much."
Iwaizumi blushed again, scratching the nape of his neck with one hand, the other safely holding the steering wheel of the vehicle. "I said that out loud didn't I?" Oikawa nodded. "Well, you haven't really. You might present yourself differently, but you still act like that annoying, crybaby dumbass I grew up with."
Oikawa huffed, crossing his arms and staring out the window. "You're so rude, you know that?"
"Whatever, Shittykawa."
"And vulgar!"
