The ironic part is that the zombie apocalypse genre, as we know it, was invented as a anti-fascist allegory via The Night Of The Living Dead.
I’m not saying it’s fascist to enjoy zombie media but I do think there is a sort of fascist sensibility to the zombie genre. Like hordes of humanoid but deliberately dehumanized enemies that want to destroy everything you value which are okay to mow down in waves? Societies focused around building massive walls to enclose an isolated and self reliant community, and killing anything that gets too close to them? Even the logic of the zombie bite - a corruption from outside that destroys you from within and turns you into the enemy, which can only be stopped by self sacrifice and suffering (such as suicide, or in a less extreme case, amputation)?
Like again I get it, no one’s gonna watch the walking dead and start goosestepping immediately after, but I do think that this sort of story, intentional or not, taps into a lot of fascist impulses polluting the collective unconscious.
