I'm speechless. But just for a moment.
Dear ripsensei-senpai, from the very beggining I had assumed that your comics where Akoya was called or even called himself "broken" and words like that were nothing but a mere headcanon about bullying, depression, whatever else it could be (I'm not good at these things, I'm sorry if I make mistakes) that strengthened the already official information we have that says that Akoya was made fun of and bullied for his name, physical apparence and manners.
But you're telling me that there are real people that just call Akoya and the rest of the student council broken and messed-up because of their pasts?
They're not broken at all!!
Kinshiro was just jealous and Atsushi didn't want to bother him, and because none of them did anything, they stayed apart for many years. Akoya, instead of becoming depressive and wanting to kill himself (which, thanks to my drama slut writer self, is one of my headcanons), built himself a shell of protection that showed him as selfish, narcissistic and arrogant, which is what people first called him and thus made him become, but it just hid inside the real Akoya, gentle and sweet. And Ibushi seemed to not have other reason than to follow Kinshiro's will. Can you call that being "broken"? I think not.
When I planify a video or a drawing, you know how I classify the characters to make the structure?
1. Based on the relationships between them.
2. Based on the clothes they wear both normally and when they transform.
That's it! What other difference could we make between them? Age difference? Like/dislike curry difference? I really find pointless classifying them in any other way unless it's actually just for information (like, for example, both En and Akoya have blue eyes).
Also, if we're going to talk about character's flaws based on their actions, why has nobody brought the Beppu twins up to discussion? They might be part of the good team now, but I consider the harm they've done worse than Caerula Adamas'. Both teams of villains have made monsters in order to defeat the Defense Club, but to which resolve? Caerula Adamas wanted to conquer the Earth, sure. But the worse they've actually done has been some physical damage, like (not even directly) the destruction of the school tower in episode 12. What about VEPPer, then? First, they are OBSESSED with Gora. Like, you can't look at those two during their daily lives and tell me they are completely sane. At least not at first. Either that, or they have become overdramatic after so many years of being children stars.
Second, unlike the Student Council, they have gone as far as to poison/drug a member of the Defense Club, Yumoto, into unintentionally physically harrassing his clubmates, they have spied the Hakone family, kidnapped temporarily Gora only to themselves and mentioned killing Yumoto twice. Plus, without thinking about the consequences of, if they only kidnapped Gora, Yumoto, who's an orphan underage teenager that practically lives inside an imaginary bubble, would have to enter an orphanage and carry the trauma of having his older brother taken away before him and not being able to save him, and suddenly having to learn too the truth about his parents, whichever it is, and finding himself alone in life. If I, a teenager who had a very happy childhood, who was told any knowledge when asked for it, with both parents alive and in a good-not too bad condition in general, but had to pass their divorce when I was seven, and who still struggles to study well, felt horrible for that divorce and having bad grades and being scared about the future, I can't imagine the way Yumoto would crumble when becoming an orphan, having his brother taken away, not having his own household (he wouldn't be allowed to live in the Kurotama Bathouse either), and having bad grades and a bad future ahead of himself, not to mention he's a lot more innocent and fragile than me.
Still not convinced? Caerula Adamas were just as shocked as the Battle Lovers when they learned that their fights' only purpose were to be filmed and aired to the entire universe's TVs. They were manipulated by Zundar using their desires to make an Earth that pleased them, but in the end, they were nothing but Zundar and Hireashi's puppets. What about VEPPer, on the other hand? They knew from the start what they were doing. Opposite to Zundar and CA, the relationship between the Beppu twins and Dadacha was completely different. The siblings treated Dadacha badly sometimes (like, for example, the Christmas party episode. They left Dadacha alone on his birthday and then ordered him to look for the monster and tell him not to attack). And Dadacha always stayed by their side no matter what or how they treated him. Sure, Dadacha helped them on their evil plans, but considering how badly he was treated sometimes, he could've just left the twins on their own, but he didn't. I really believe Dadacha felt as the Beppus' father as their relationship grew and that's why he stayed with them until they decided to leave him in the ova. And the twins were decided to overcome or destroy any obstacle that went into their way to rejoin Gora, no matter at what cost. Also, Boueibu is supposed to be an innocent show and just parody magical girls. But what if it wasn't and instead of Sailor Moon and Pretty Cure it had referenced darker shows like Puella Magi Madoka Magica? What would've happened if Boueibu was darker than it really is? What if, instead of capsicum, the chocolates for the Defense Club had been filled with poison and we had seen Yumoto die horribly after eating his? What if the Beppus had actually executed some of their BDSM methods on screen? What if the Battle Lovers failed to defeat them and we had to see Yumoto's world fall apart in a second? Not to mention what could've happened regarding season 1's events if the series were actually this dark.
You might or might not think I'm saying this because I don't like the Beppus, but in fact, I love idols (Aikatsu), I love twin characters (I have many twin ocs) and I'm a Beppu ape to the core. But I can see what they've done badly. And I can say the same about the rest of the Love and Happy Kiss cast, too.
Lastly, this "calling this character "broken" for not a valid reason" thing reminds me painfully of Assassination Classroom. There, the system of the school was to motivate the 90% of the student body to become better by pushing the remaining 10% to the class 3 - E, "the class of the failures". The class E was completely discriminated and humiliated by the rest of the school by system, only to make that better 90% feel like they were superior to someone, when they really were acting in such a spoiled and rotten way. I think calling someone, a fictional character in this case, which is worse, "broken and messed-up" when they're not and they're trying to be better than before, is similar to this. Maybe it's not done with bad intentions, but it's very sad that somebody does this. I personally think that trying to fix your past mistakes is something very courageous to do and should be supported, not criticized.
Let's stop this nonsense.
hey….. so like…. i 99% of the time dont pay attention to what the fandom discusses anymore bc it’s bad for my health and i dont want the anxiety of trying to say this eloquently or prepare for debate but
it really bothers me when the student council are repeatedly called “messed up” and “broken” even after their redemption
