OK hear me out- it's not EXACTLY what you asked BUT it's an illustration for "I Wouldn't Ask You" by sightofthesun on AO3 (I think you have to login there to find/read it) and it has John being confused by gender restriction AND Arthur almost ending a guy for tossing a homophobic remark John's way. Highly recommend.
