Just remembered how my dom told me to take my pants off in the car on our way home from a party. I'm in the passenger seat, my legs spread, her hand between my thighs, fingering me AND THE POLICE PASSES US. It was dark, so they couldn't see the passenger seat, but my dom made eye contact with them as they were passing. We both broke out into laughter seeing them pass us. The potential trouble that woman gets me into...

And before anyone yells WACO, fighting the cop trying to murder you and your family for having the wrong skin colour (or wrong address) is entirely feasible. Fighting the muscle car-driving neonazi Trump has empowered to try and make lynchings cool again is entirely feasible.
I always hate the "they didn't envision a world" argument, because they didn't envision a world where we could text people en masse or write on the internet either, and yet it's still unconscionable of the government to spy on our phones and monitor our internet history, and it's still something everyone would consider a flagrant violation of the first amendment to try and stop someone from posting dissent about the government online. Yes, they only had muskets. If they heard the people were limited to ineffective handguns and the police had armoured tanks, they wouldn't sit back and nod. To regurgitate an argument that's already been regurgitated, criminals don't give a shit about gun laws. If you limit law abiding citizens to the weapons that aren't actually effective at being weapons, then you're equivalently making us the musket carriers and criminals the superior force. Nevermind that we don't have bottomless magazines, and semi-automatics (a significant chunk of all gun sales, this doesn't just mean big scary AR-15s, this is your pistol, too) can't fire hundreds of rounds a minute. Convenience isn't what spurs on mass shooters. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were planning meticulously for months. They would've found a way regardless, considering they built bombs, which I'm pretty sure are entirely illegal. Adam Lanza didn't even pull out the bottomless magazine auto. He used a shotgun. Your average dad's bear deterrent. He was also inspired to kill by researching mass murders and criminology online. My literal field of study. Suppose we ban that? Put me out of a job and do nothing to actually address why any of these kids shot up the local school.
Current (and most proposed) gun control doesn't work. If Adam Lanza used daddy's shotgun, banning AR-15s has done nothing to solve the problem. The ultimate goal is a complete ban, because unless we address mental health, no amount of infringement on what was supposed to never be infringed will actually do a damn thing. California has some of the strictest gun control laws in the U.S. Nonsensical gun laws, actually, considering (just like with mental health treatment and involuntary commitment laws) nobody who legislates does a single piece of research. Just the other day they proposed a ban on bullet buttons, which contrary to the name, serve to lock up a magazine and prevent it from being changed. An invention solely made to comply with previous gun control laws. They said it was too easy, it made it too easy to change mags. They're putting... restrictions on THEIR OWN restrictions. And yet in Gilroy three people are still dead at a fucking garlic festival. And nothing has changed.
Unless we get legislation that makes sense (in my fucking dreams maybe), the proposed laws are about as useful as my left nut. And given I'm AFAB, my left nut is nonexistent. I'm fine with some restriction. If you're a convicted domestic abuser, you shouldn't own half the gun store (tell that to half our police force by the fucking way, when they get done shooting innocent black people long enough to pay attention to you). But what we have doesn't work. And banning further also won't work. Because little Terry down the street with his trenchcoat and Foster the People vinyl still can't get easy access to effective therapy. And Dave is still kept down by the system hard enough to be forced into gangs, and gang violence. And that system, that system where we can't afford our own antidepressants, isn't going to save Tim from swallowing a bullet.
I'm just saying. Address the cause, don't address the symptoms.
You ever have a very controversial opinion that you want to vent about but also don't want to get into discourse for?
I mean an actual opinion, not "actually let's talk about why bigotry is okay" Ben Shapiro bullshit, just for clarification
