It'd been almost a year to the date since 'Lyssa had run into Rick, pretty much literally, and she found herself highly grateful to the universe for bringing them together. It wasn't as if she was doing badly by herself; it was just... sometimes the feeling and knowledge that she was alone... it was much scarier than the horrors that the world showed the remaining survivors every goddamn day.
Alyssa always prided herself on the fact that she never needed anybody. Never. Not even when the world ended did she find herself wishing she had someone to rely on, share the days' burdens with, and simply enjoy being around. Especially since, by then, people began to show their true nature, and man, oh man, was it even uglier than anyone could have imagined.
But that encounter with Rick, or Sherrif Cowboy as she has so endearingly come to calling him when either of them needed a chuckle, made the woman open her eyes and see that maybe not everyone was as evil- so to speak, as she thought they were. He certainly wasn't.
With a quiet yet deep sigh, the brunette felt her shoulders rise and droop with effort and a wince; it'd been more than a few days since anyone had seen something to eat, 'Lyssa felt her fingers twitch as if she had a phantom cigarette between them. Which only caused her to let out a muffled sound of irritation along with another huff.
"I know your whole take on the whole 'smoking'll kill ya' thing, but FUCK, what wouldn't I do for just one Marlboro Smooth." She said petulantly, reaching up to adjust the hat on her head that was protecting her from the harsh glare of the sun as she pointedly ignored the look she was most likely getting from the man.
"Yeah, yeah, I know, I know."

Wide sea-green eyes darted back to his profile, a disbelieving smile growing on her lips, brightening her entire persona at the thought of that wonderfully amazing cigarette that she wouldn't even care was stale.
"Y'know, I know you mean that too, which makes this much more meaningful. Damn, here I was expecting the same ol', same ol' lecture about how it's gonna kill me and all that shit. You still manage to surprise me, Cowboy. It's refreshing." Alyssa teased him, reaching out to nudge his shoulder in jest as a chuckle escaped her.
At the mention of stopping for something to eat, her stomach rumbled in an embarrassing and all too familiar sense of hunger, causing her to wrinkle her nose at her torse with a roll of her eyes, still retaining that childlike glow when it came to going about things in life.
Sure, it sucked. Really fucking hard. Like, seriously. Fucking sucked.
But that didn't mean the world ending would kill her sense of playfulness. And yeah, she never voiced it out loud to Rick, but while the world wouldn't do it, she would sometimes try to stifle her personality.
Guess that time, the apocalypse, and new experiences didn't actually erase the shit that she went through growing up and with her last serious relationship. She still thought that she was too much at times.
'Lyssa just... couldn't picture moving forward in any sense if she was by herself, not anymore. It used to be the only thing she knew, but that was before she met the gruff sheriff that she'd come to rely on, and care for as well as vice versa.
She couldn't lose him, wouldn't think she'd stay sane. So she muted her inner ramblings sometimes, no idea if the man picked up on it or not, in hopes of not catching his annoyance.
"Rick..." She trailed off, following his lead as they started to set up something that resembled shelter for their meal. "If I'm hungry, I can't imagine what you're feeling. Don't think I didn' notice that you've been saving food here and there just to sneak it to me. You know I wish you wouldn't do that, right? You're... I need you to stay healthy. You just have to, okay? So please?"
