Special shout-out to Jak (mine) and Wylluf (NPC turned PC written by my husband) for THE best slowly built tabletop character relationship I've ever had the joy of experiencing.

First Ship

All my little novice early RP days many many years ago were in the Lion King fandom because, duh, animals are the best and animal stories are what I grew up on- thing is, I was always very much more into the animals-being-animals, natural history, group dynamics, melodrama made out of natural disasters and territory disputes etc, than into actual romantic plots a la Simba and Nala or Todd and Vixey etc etc. The first actual -couple- I can think of where I really got into the personal relationship side of things was with a pair of painted dogs I wrote with one of my oldest ever RP buddies. Mine was the bad boy who got exiled from the pack (I think he killed another dog? For good reason but nobody believed him?) and hers was the sweet girl who... followed him? Ran into him years later? My gosh, I barely remember a detail of the actual story but I remember that period of writing VERY VERY fondly.

Currently Reading

I've promised to loan my copy of 'The Little Prince' to somebody but I've realised I absolutely must re-read it before I do, it's one of those books that I am convinced every person needs to read at least once. So I'm partway into that, but it won't take me long. I have quite a stack of books that I'm eager to get into and no idea what I'm going to pick next. (Teacakes, you've made me remember how badly I want to re-acquaint myself with Tamora Pierce, I adored the Wild Magic books when I was in school!)

Last Film

At the cinema? The Fall Guy. Wonderful. So much fun. I'd see it again. Actual last film watched (streaming at home) - X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Aaahahahaha knowing what I know about the universe now vs when that movie first came out, I can now 100% see why so many of my friends were so mad about it

Should we keep hope for Warden Ingo in Masters or not? Also, do you the sync pair for the Wardens be with their partners or the Nobles? Ah, I'm way to happy about this!

I AM SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS TOO OP!! Warden Ingo is obviously the sync pair that I want most. I want him so I can put him on a team with Emmet and Elesa ;-;

But I don’t know if he will actually appear, and if he does is almost certainly won’t be in the first “wave” of sync pairs.

This may get a bit long, apologies, but these are all of my thoughts. I have been speculating on Hisuian Units for a LONG time, so I have many thoughts haha. I have not spent any gems in months and have 100k+ saved up because I expected it would be a matter of “when” and not “if”, considering the Pokemas community pointing out Pokemon themselves labeling PLA as a mainline game and DeNa’s apparent contractual obligation to include mainline games.

Here is what I think below. You did not ask for this OP, but this is my mountain of thoughts.

INITIAL SYNC PAIRS

Now, I believe Akari, Rei, and Volo will be initial, obvious sync pairs.

The trailer we got shows Dawn and Lucas, and I believe they’re going to be looking at Akari and Rei.

What I’m hoping is that this isn’t used to label Akari and Rei as Dawn and Lucas alts. I don’t think they will, as this would strip them of their names Akari and Rei, and they’re already being introduced as Hisuian Units (NOTE HISUI, NOT SINNOH), but the pokemas community seems to be entertaining the idea a lot, as doing this would “confirm” the popular fanon concept that Dawn is Akari/Lucas is Rei.

And Volo, I feel like is going to be a given unit. A pokemas leak account I follow along with reshared a gif with Akari and Volo in it before the trailer reveal. But also, DeNa treats Hisui as a Region the same every other region has been treated, they will need a standout villain for their Villain Arcs.

AND, this means Hisui will get a free Legendary Sync Pair added to the menu. Just like Zinnia and Rayquaza, Ghetsis and Kyurem, and Hop and Zamazenta. Every region has one, and Hisui will need one too.

I think it will be Volo to get this. And I’m expecting it to either be with Origin Forme Giratina, or Arceus themselves; both are viable for a Hisuian VA narrative.

But if the Legendary Sync pair is not Volo, I am expecting it to be Cogita and Enamorus.

HISUIAN POKÉMON

I’ve been thinking on possible sync pairs for a while. I won’t be surprised if it doesn’t go this way at all, but I feel like Hisuian Sync Pairs will mean for the most part, this is meant to present Hisuian Pokémon too.

I am leaning towards the idea that Akari will get a Hisuian Samurott, and Rei a Hisuian Typhlosion. The promotional merchandise that we got with the game always paired them together.

(And Laventon is paired with Hisuian Decidueye in the merchandise as you can see, so I’m expecting him to be a sync pair eventually, moreso to fit Decidueye into it and round out the trio.)

I am also expecting Irida and Adaman as very initial sync pairs. And I expect their partners to be their eeveelutions.

I expect alts for them later down the line, with Origin Forme Palkia and Dialga. Or alternatively, they start with Origin Form Palkia and Dialga, and get added to the Trainer Lodge with their eeveelutions as alt sync pair rewards.

WARDENS

Going with this theme of introducing Hisuian Pokémon, I am expecting wardens to be introduced with their nobles. (Though Lord Avalugg might not be quite as big obviously… DeNa is good at giving throwaway explanations for stuff like that though)

Pokémon seems to always group their promotional merchandise and Pokémon together with the groups they were initially revealed to the public with. If you notice right now, they always release Smoliv merchandise with Lechonk and Pawmi merchandise. And Cetitan merchandise always comes out with Fidough and Paldean Wooper merchandise, etc.

If DeNa would somehow follow this pattern, that means their first warden sync pairs might end up being Mai with Wyrdeer, Lian with Kleavor, as these were the first (and only) wardens properly publicly revealed on social media.

I want every warden to get a sync pair. Of course a lot of people are probably hoping for that. All in all, that would be 10 sync pairs just for them though, and that is a lot just for the wardens. Considering Galar only has 31 sync pairs right now (15 if we are not counting alts), this could take a LONG time to get all of them, if we ever even do.

And as much as I want Warden Ingo immediately, I want them to go through every area and their wardens chronologically. I want every warden.

But DeNa has to be aware that there is a considerable amount of people that want Warden Ingo as a sync pair specifically. The battle subway theme got its own remix because of their popularity. I hope they play into this marketability and make Warden Ingo’s inclusion a matter of when, and not if.

OTHER SYNC PAIRS

Of course, there are other characters that can be added besides the wardens. I am betting on Kamado being added as he was a promotional figure for the game before PLA was out. And I’m expecting him to have Snorlax. If Cyllene is added, I’m expecting abra. (Not a viable Pokémon at all, but I’m not really expecting her to be added.)

I want Zisu to be added very badly. And she has a Hisuian Zoroark on her team, which would be a great reason to include her if DeNa really does just care about Hisuian Pokémon inclusion.

Beni gets added? Gallade. Miss Fortune Sisters? Gengar, Toxicroak, Abomasnow (but that is 3 sync pairs right there so I’m NOT holding out on them). Pesselle? Crogunk. I’m not expecting any of these sync pairs as I list more of them, but options are there.

ALTS

Every regions gets alts. I am expecting alts from Hisui too.

Firstly, I’m expecting alts could introduce other Hisuian Pokémon. Their selection is small enough that I feel like some alts could be used up to try and achieve this. Overquil and Hisuian Goodra could be used in sync pairs in an excuse to make an alt. Hisuian Zoroark would be high up there on consideration I assume, but I’m really hoping they just include Zisu for that rep instead.

Secondly, I’m expecting a Ginkgo Guild Volo alt. (Or this is the base unit, and Arceus cosplay Volo is the alt) with togepi evo line as his sync pair.

I imagine DeNa could work with the narrative and include festival alts for Akari and Rei, but at the same time I don’t really expect it. Except for a few, almost every Pokemas Alt I can think of is tied to a non-canon themed event as opposed to their actual narratives within their games.

END THOUGHTS

NOW. I have some thoughts on what the narrative could possibly be for the Hisuian event, but I won’t even touch that right now seeing as how long and boring this whole post already is. Perhaps another time.

I am just really excited for more Hisui rep. I’m excited to see these characters again and get to see more interactions from them. I love PLA; it reinvigorated my love for Pokémon and helped me make so many good friends.

Its special to me, and I care about it a lot. So that said, I won’t take anything DeNa does with them too seriously. I just want to have fun with this event and enjoy my Hisui Rep, however much of it we actually get.

Thank you for the ask OP! I know you didn’t ask for all of this, but I have been hoping for this for months and incessantly snooping in the datamine community hoping for this scenario I thought would be too good to ever truely happen. We get more info on the 28th/29th, and I’m looking forward to it.

unfortunately I took this and ran with it as a summary instead of "yeah this is their names"

yes! well, half and half. sudowoodo is quite literally just called sudowoodo, but the nuzleaf is called locke! every now and then, some of my pokemon just don't receive names, because nothing seems to fit in my head (and I like to think that some pokemon just don't feel obligated to go by any particular name). locke is named after, well, i'm sure you can figure that out (nuzlockes LOL)

their team is called "two guys", cuz they're two guys. despite this, they'll eventually recruit fries (zigzagoon, she/her), unnamed veluza (might just be called veluza, undetermined pronouns) & unnamed geodude (she/her). they rarely work as a full team (locke fucking hates everybody), they're more of just A Group (the "team" is still sudolocke, others just tag along or split off). they all live in the same kind of vicinity and all have a similar life goal/interest: some kind of life involving pursuing... flower maintenance. of some kind.

the above is primarily sudowoodo's dream. he wants to find a legendary seed and grow a legendary tree/flower, and deal with everything else along the way; he doesn't go into dungeons to rescue people (that's a plus), he's solely focused on his own personal task. locke has absolutely no goals and aspirations, originally sticking around sudowoodo after hearing about his goals because he thought it was *so* stupid, that he just had to be there to watch sudowoodo fail (in actuality, he had absolutely nothing going on in his life. it's true he followed sudowoodo just to mock him and piss him off, but locke ended up becoming genuinely attached, fully taking on sudowoodo's dream as his own. though he would never admit to any of this to anyone other than sudowoodo lol)

the pair are yaoiful in a situationship kind of way. like they're in love but they're uncertain about it and neither of them would necessarily call eachother boyfriends/say "i love you" all that often if at all/so on so forth. everyone around them just assumes they've got something weird going on. genuinely have no idea how to describe how these two feel about eachother LMAO

(fries just thinks a place full of flowers is Cool, veluza would like a chill place to finally relax that will also be considerate of fish mons, geodude herself has plants and moss growing on her head so seeing other mons dedicate their time towards nurturing a space like this has her wanting to get involved as much as possible; this curated space is like a home to all five of them. the intent is for it to be a pretty decently-sized place they'll all come to manage, kind of eventually becoming like a flower garden/nature reserve/all that)

unfortunately things turn a bit south when sudowoodo & locke end up in silverwood tangle (forest), a wrong place wrong time situation. this becomes the introduction of beast dungeons themselves (mystery dungeons helmed by ultra beasts). this is where the meat of everything begins which i won't get into here because i've already rambled overtime but SHDHDGSGF i know people are typically around for VV and not DC:BD (bluesky feed numbers are a big tell of this), but they're my silly guys and i like em :-]

I went to the CD store today and I bought a bunch of stuff! (probably too much lol)

most notably a 2-in-1 DVD of The General and Steamboat Bill, Jr.! I'm VERY surprised and excited to have found Buster Keaton films there. Silent films are like... not usually out and about? People who have physical copies often had to buy them online and don't resell them. I'm guessing these aren't great copies, but my other on-hand option is watching them on youtube so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (there were also several Chaplin DVDs but. no thank you.)

I also got the Criterion release of Hiroshima Mon Amour. I've been wanting to see it for ages and just never had any chance to, but now I'm obligated to sit and watch.

as for CDs!!!!! at first I wasn't finding anything that connected with me, but! then I came across Haunted by Poe, which I thought would be great to have a copy of. it's the companion album to House of Leaves, and I've listened to it before online. (on that note, I also wanna get The Whalestoe Letters, maybe order it after I move.)

I got Hard Candy by Madonna, mostly bc it was buy-1-get-1 and I wanted to get something by her, idk.

Then the free album I got alongside that was The Big Room by M2M. I know only 1 thing about M2M, which is that they had a song in the 1st Pokemon movie (Don't Say You Love Me). literally since like 1999 I've had this Pikachu-yellow single CD that just has Don't Say You Love Me and then just one instrumental piece. it's not even the real soundtrack to the movie. so wtf. anyway. M2M is apparently Norweigan?

then I got a greatest hits collection from Fatboy Slim :) it's called Why Try Harder and has Christopher Walken from the Weapon of Choice video on the cover.

also anyone that buys something at this store gets to pick a free CD or DVD from the free. so I picked a Celtic Woman album, bc I always liked hearing the Celtic music groups during the PBS pledge drives. fun surprise!

anyway I'm so happy to have gone. we also got coffee twice today (not starbucks!) and took care of some errands. lately we've been only leaving the house for appointments and obligations so it was nice having a day out.

They've got a job to do, but they might just be in over their heads. Also contains Cruella de Vil in a rocket ship. Crack fic based on my dumbest headcanon.

Yeah, I'd beg to differ about Misty actually loving the position of Gym Leader. Having pride in being one? Sure, but she had that pride since BEFORE GCYL basically trapped her in the position for decades. Willing to go the extra mile to make sure it's not bottom feeding? Of course. Especially considering her sisters nearly DID reduce it to that. But loving it is exaggerating a bit (it's like saying Brock loved gym leading when in reality he really didn't and only did so out of familial obligations more than anything else). Even in Sun and Moon, she has shown signs of disliking the position ultimately, especially when it entails her sisters forcing her into the role. Case in point:

Ignoring her facial expression did not look too happy at this aspect, I don't think that's the wording of someone who actually enjoyed the job.

Besides, even if she DID fully love being a gym leader (and by that, I mean having a Jason Fox-esque adoration for being a gym leader and hating being away for even a second), how can we even be sure that she was resuming Gym duties when she left? The only thing that was said was that she was returning to Cerulean City, there was literally no mention of Cerulean Gym at all, much less resuming Gym duties. For all we know, she may have been doing a layover there before she continues her journey. And considering how she explained that she was starting a new journey and specifically cited Ash's victory in that League as what got her inspired to do so, I'm extremely doubtful she meant "hey, might as well take a brief vacation from the gym", more like "I'm going to resume my Water Pokemon Master goal now." I may need to go into fuller detail regarding that bit in a later post since it's late at night right now, but it sounds more like she's returning to Cerulean City for the same reason Brock returned to Pewter City (and that guy is explicitly no longer a gym leader under any definition) and why Ash ultimately returned to Pallet Town. Usually when she leaves the group, either they specifically have her cite her gym duties as why she's leaving soon (ie, Togepi Mirage Kingdom arc, her visit to Alola), or otherwise it's made extremely obvious that she's required to the gym (Daisy basically threatening to hand badges out for free during the first part of the Battle Frontier arc). Note that I'm not counting the first Alola encounter since in that case, Ash and his class visited her rather than the other way around, meaning in that case, the group left her.

Personally, I prefer the idea of Misty actually RESUMING her Water Pokemon Master goal over just resuming gym duties. It was a complete travesty that she ended up forced out of her goal (not even choosing to switch goals, the decision was made FOR her without her input), one of the show's biggest mistakes, and having her resume her journey would have been a good fix especially when it was nearing the end anyways. It also acted as extremely decent development for her sisters as well, as it implied they themselves managed to gain enough competency at battle that Misty can in fact truly trust them in running the position (The whole reason why Misty ran Cerulean Gym for more than three weeks despite not liking it is because she realized her sisters couldn't even be trusted with running the gym. This was made more explicit in Date with Delcatty's Japanese language episode, and even there she described her time there as more of a temporary measure.). The fact that she initially considered striking it out on her own even implied she was able to do it without even needing to rejoin Ash to do so, also really good development on her part (that she wanted to rejoin was just icing on the cake).

Don't get me wrong, Misty DEFINITELY restored the honor of Gym Leader duties to not be a complete joke (and not just with Cerulean Gym, either. She managed to redeem Gym leader duties as a whole after the profession from AG to BW basically reduced it to a complete joke). But her ultimate goal was in fact Water Pokemon master, which DOES require traveling ultimately, NOT staying in a gym (which countless characters, including Gym Leaders, made clear, such as Blaine for example).

While Misty said she's returning to Cerulean Gym in the last ep (and Brock apparently to his to see his family), do you think she will stay as Gym leader permanently? We know she can travel a bit like she was before Ash bumped into her in the second ep, but I assume it was just a short term thing. There's no real indication she doesn't want to be Cerulean Gym leader anymore, so I guess she's heading back there to retain the reigns again instead of traveling like Ash does randomly.

Yeah, I think Misty has learned to love the role of gym leader. It seems like initially she was running away from it, then she hesitantly accepted it and struggled in the position, but after the events of Cerulean Blues (great episode of Pokémon Chronicles for those of you who've never seen it!) I think she settled into it and genuinely enjoys being a gym leader. Because of that, I don't think she feels the urge to travel as much as Ash does, but rather just for a break every once in a while.

look i tried really hard to rewatch Goncharov (1973, dir. Scorsese) but my cat wouldn't let me. like of COURSE ive seen it before, i have a dad who was home on federal holidays and watched scorsese marathons on spike tv. fun fact i didn't know there was a bisexual threesome or cucking involved until i watched it for a college film class on villains, bc of course that was not shown on american daytime marathon television!

anyway. my cat. we have watched so many spaghetti westerns together. much gunfire. several gatling guns. i don't know what it is about the Guncharov that woke her up out of a deep sleep and had her fleeing from the room. like okay, it was a partially handmade (the stock is from the actor's mother's wedding chest) AK-47 made specially for this film, further underscoring how time has passed goncharov by and the gas operation subtly foreshadowing the later flashback of the mustard gas in the tunnel attack, but i don't think that should have affected the relative loudness of the Guncharov, and i think the gatling gun in A Bullet For The General (which we rewatched last week) was MUCH louder. my cat is too interested in headphone cords, and i'm trying to teach her that cords are boring and uninteresting and extremely not for cats, and i didn't really have the heart to finish the movie on mute with subtitles still up. the lovely score is so integral to all the sofya scenes.

i have never played a pokemon. i have been bullied into horking up sixty three american dollars, or just barely under three hours of post-tax work. i am having an all right time so far but my best friend and her husband are so fucking thrilled we finally have 1) a game in common and 2) a game we can play together. sixty three american dollars is a pretty small friendship maintenance price in the grand scheme of things and it's not like it's really going to make an impact in my overall debt HA HA.

this game has also given me personally a great many gifts in the form of SO many buff women just floating about.

this is the worst framing and matting job i’ve ever done using my favorite trick of “flip the art already in there around for a double mat" but it just needed to stay together long enough for a gif. every time I moved the cord the light flickered on and off independently of the switch in the cord so we will be replacing that. probably repainting it too.

Me: I'm currently 26 years old, and I usually prefer female pronouns, but I really don't care if you call me casual nonbinary/masculine pronouns either. I've been a casual anime fan for years, starting with Sailor Moon and Pokemon. I'm pretty easy going in general. I'm also double-demi and no, I will not debate it with you, this is not a democracy.

Hi, sorry to bother you but I had an idea for an AU where Varian is studying an artifact called the 'Silver Wing' yes I took that from Pokemon, no I am not ashamed. The premise is basically after spending weeks trying to understand the artifact and decipher the scrolls left about it. Turns out it chooses a holder and works in the ways the sundrop and moonstone do by kind of staying inside the heart of the user.

After a very selfless act on Varian's part (rescuing Rapunzel from falling from the balcony, I dunno if you've seen a Silent Voice but its kind of like that scene. He manages to pull her up only to fall himself and in the moment the artifact reacts and brings him back up to the tower safely in what appears to be a gust of wind blowing around him) However after the initial excitement he finds the Silver Wing has disappeared and, you guessed it. It's part of him now. However he starts to notice he has some upper back problems (I'm honestly just deflecting at this point) and after some hours he ends up sprouting some wings. He's super freaked and that's all I got.

I used to roleplay a lot, and have so many ideas, but the rp crowd has kind of died and you are kind of my favorite author. So I was hoping for maybe a little advise? Or if you know an author who co-writes things?

Hey hey! Nah man I’m always down for a chat!

That sounds like a really fun idea for an au! I love a good wing fic, the concept is SO interesting! The big reveal of the flight powers especially sounds really awesome, I live for “oh my god WHAT” moments in fics!! With wings too it’s so easy to hop onto things like preening as a social bonding thing, or other bird things. There’s a lot of possibilities! Imagine rapunzel's FACE lol

As for advice, the best I really have for finding RP partners and co-authors is to join some of the online fan communities! I found my co-writer Iza (for Cor Meum)  on a varigo server, and same with basically all my online friends in different communities! Discord is a great place to start, so is tumblr, but I personally like to drop into places with lots of people since it’s easy to slip in and out of conversations as they go along without getting overwhelmed. Kinda suss out the vibe before jumping in, you know? Your results may vary of course, depending on your personal comfort zones. 

Though I’m not active on any public servers anymore I’m sure they’re out there! Once you narrow down the general masses and find the really devoted fans I’m sure you could find a RP partner or even a group! Same with a co-writer, I find that ramble channels are great to see whose ideas you might vibe with–that’s how I found a couple of my friends! I'm pretty solitary by nature lol, my hobby is sitting alone on a computer, after all hehe

That or sometimes the most fun thing is to write your ideas yourself! To each their own lol. I find that writing out my ideas in a point form outline really helps me get the idea out of my head and into something more tangible–and then once it’s there I can start shuffling around for pacing and ebb and flow and etc etc, taking it from concept to proper outline, and then once all that’s done the writing is easy lmao. You just follow the road map! I find that looking into things like Campbell's hero's journey, the Save the Cat beat sheet, and the like really help while prepping an outline for a good, cohesive story.
