today is the day art history, queer history and jigen/lupin came together in my brain to have one hell of a party

thank you gay icon leonardo da vinci for putting jigen directly to lupin's right here, making him not only his literal right hand man (partnership :') ) but also putting him in the place of John the Apostle from the original painting -- the apostle most frequently identified as 'The Disciple Whom Jesus Loved' (and yes, indeed, it has a long long history of being read as queer -- King James justified his own long term relationship to George Villiers essentially with 'well Jesus did it first so how can it be wrong' fasdfka. actually let me get part of the quote for you because it's so sweet: "You may be sure that I love the Earl of Buckingham more than anyone else, and more than you who are here, assembled. I wish to speak in my own behalf and not to have it thought to be a defect, for Jesus Christ did the same, and therefore I cannot be blamed. Christ had John, and I have George." I know they probably didn't intend this, especially since it's the wrong number of characters to be a perfect 1:1 with the painting, but S T I L L OMG my gay lil brain will take it and run with it, thank you clone of renaissance artist and renaissance man (ahaha) Leonardo da Vinci running around in modern day Italy (yeah part 4 goes some weird places)

in a less thoughtful vein: I do love that not only is Jigen the only character with his elbows on the table looking bored by the whole thing, da Vinci also predicted that he would be the only one with his elbows on the table looking bored by the whole thing <3 keep putting your genius to work in the ways that truly matter, like correctly predicting that this boy has no table manners, Leo. (...oh no some unholy ideas surfacing in my brain here -- someone please do a fanart of Jigen in the style of da Vinci's sexy gay John the Baptist? Different John but same da Vinci haha, I think it could be very funny to do that image but with Jigen flipping someone (*cough* probably Lupin) off instead of pointing. in general doing spoofs of da Vinci paintings with the Lupin characters sounds hilarious and also scarily plausible to be canon)
