“He told me everything.” your voice trembles with barely restrained fury as you speak, an accusatory finger pointed at him. “How could you?! Your own brother, Sanemi!”

Sanemi's jaw tightens and he stands up abruptly, pulling out his sword with a practiced motion. "Tsk, it's no big deal. He'll get over it," he says dismissively, brushing past you as if the conversation meant nothing.

You move to block his path in an instant, your heart pounding in your chest.

“Do you even hear yourself?!”

Sanemi finally meets your gaze. “I’m trying to keep the goddamn brat alive. I’m trying protect him, alright? He’s being reckless, and he’s fucking crazy if he thinks he’s fit to survive out there!”

“Wha– and you think this is the way to protect him? You think blinding him will keep him safe? What the hell is your problem?! You're not protecting him, Sanemi, you're driving him to desperation. That's what you're doing. You’re pushing him to do reckless things because he thinks he has to prove himself to you!”

The words flow out of your mouth so easily, like they've always been there, waiting to spill out. Your frustration and anger are bubbling to the surface, barely restrained at this point. You've never liked the way he treated Genya, and this incident had been the last straw. There was no way you could keep watching him destroy his relationship with his brother without saying anything.

The silence stretches uncomfortably as Sanemi's gaze bores into yours, the veins on his forehead and his neck bulging in anger. For a moment, you fear he'll lash out at you too, but instead, he pushes past you and storms out of the room, stepping heavily down the wooden stairs.

"If he stays in the Corps, he’ll die.” he finally snaps. "He can't use breathing techniques. He’s weak. He’s not strong enough and he’ll never be. I'm doing him a favor by being hard on him."

"That's bullshit and you know it." you rush down after him, getting in his way to prevent him from leaving. It takes every fiber of willpower you have not to slap some sense into him. "Wake up already. We live in a world that's beyond cruel and unpredictable, Sanemi. We don't know what tomorrow will bring or if we'll even see it. Death is always in the corner, especially for people like us who are constantly risking our lives with every mission."

Sanemi's eyes widen slightly, the anger in them giving way to something more vulnerable. His heart sinks at the implication — but he wants to hear it from you, loud and clear.

"...What are you saying?"

“I'm saying that what you're doing, the way you're pushing him away and breaking his heart over and over again— it’s going to backfire on you one day.” you continue, a slight desperation in your tone. “You can say what you want, but Genya is a demon slayer. There's nothing you can do about it. And you know what that means, right?” You pause, scanning his reaction for any hint of realization or acceptance. "You said it yourself. It means you could lose him at any moment. Tonight, tomorrow, next week. Life is way too short for you to be acting like this. What if he dies thinking his own brother never loved him? How would you live with that?” You step closer, refusing to back down. “He’s desperate for your forgiveness, for your love. And instead of giving it to him, you do this.”

Sanemi clenches his fists, his knuckles turning white around the hilt of his sword. He hates that you’re right, that you’re seeing through his justifications. He knows he’s been hard on Genya, more than anyone should be to their own brother. He’s spent years pushing him away, trying to protect him from the harsh realities of their world. But in doing so, he’s only unintentionally pushed him into more danger.

"He needs you, Sanemi," you add calmly, stepping closer to him. "You're each other’s only family. Don't let your pride or your fears keep pushing him away. He’s just a child, for God’s sake.”

He wants to argue, to lash out and say that you don’t understand, that there’s no other way. But he can’t find the words to defend himself. He moves to sit on the stairs and takes a deep breath. He averts his gaze, his grip on his sword tightening in pent up anger and frustration.

He can’t help but feel a pang of guilt as he thinks of Genya’s tearstained face, the pain and disappointment in his eyes when those terrible words left his lips.

‘I don't have a little brother.’

It’s not the first time he’s caused him pain, but it doesn’t make it any easier to bear.

"I just... I want him to live a normal life, alright?” he grumbles. “He should be playing with kids his age, laughing and running around without a care in the world. He should be studying for his future, dreaming about what he wants to be when he grows up. He doesn't belong here." he finally mutters, his voice softer than before, yet still rough. You step up to him, sitting down beside him.

As he turns to look at you, Sanemi's expression is a mixture of frustration and helplessness. He looks like he’s carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, every worry and fear etched into his hardened features.

“Everything would be easier if he just hated me." Sanemi says, his voice trembling slightly as he struggles to maintain his composure. "He’d move on, leave the damn Corps, and find a life away from all this bloodshed. If he were to die at the hands of a demon, I—” He pauses, his jaw and fists clenching tightly. He runs a nervous hand across his face.

The words catch in his throat, but you can see the pain and fear in his eyes as he struggles to continue. "I can't lose anyone else. I can't lose him." he finally manages to say.

"Then love him while you still can, Sanemi," you say, your voice firm and steady. Tears start prickling at your eyes but you're quick to blink them away. "We've all lost someone here. Some of us have no one left at all. Some of us would give anything for just five more minutes with a loved one. You still have this time with Genya, so don't take it for granted."

Your words land like a punch in Sanemi’s gut, and he finds himself unable to argue. His shoulders sag, his defensive stance crumbling.

You let out a soft sigh and get back on your feet, one hand resting on the hilt of your sword under your butterfly haori.

“I can't tell you what to do, Sanemi. But I care for Genya as much as I know you do. However, I can't be a replacement for you. I’m not his family. Only you can give him the support and love that he needs.” You take a deep breath, trying to steady your emotions. Your gaze then shifts to the falling cherry blossoms, a fleeting reminder of life's fragile beauty. “I’m leaving for a mission tomorrow— possibly against an Upper Moon.” you continue, your voice steady despite the weight of your words. “While I’m gone, think about what I’ve said. Genya needs you now more than ever. Don’t let time slip away before you show him how much you care.” you turn to look at him. “You better have fixed this when I get back.”

With a final nod exchanged and a silent promise between you and Sanemi, you begin to walk away — clutching onto hope for a few more days of survival.

No cause I 10000% agree with you. With Tanjirou constantly ignoring your story about being fucking abused physically and psychologically by Uzui+wives, and not paying attention to Nezuko being distressed over your ptsd state, and EVEN looking away when Uzui and the wives are constantly trying to create opportunities to corner you and being a little to touchy with you (and you're flinching away), someone else has to step up and help. And I have 2 people in mind for that.

First, is ofc Giyuu, cause why wouldn't he??? His moral compass is clear as day and he doesn't even need to be a yandere for him to absolutely shred everyone to pieces just to protect you. He can see the fear in your eyes, he can practically feel the hopelessness and anxiety you're suffering through. Can we politely talk about *some* SaneKana shippers...

I would normally address how toxic they tend to be and the ridiculous amount of misinformation they spread, which not only misleads the (mostly new) fans, but also heavily mischaracterizes both Sanemi and Kanae, ESPECIALLY Sanemi though because he's really complex and the misinformation just misses the entire fxcking point of the way he's written and it's enraging to say the least

..however, it's starting to be common knowledge that they're insufferable, but something that is bugging me right now is that they're getting sexualized lately. and almost no one seems to complain.

There's recent VIRAL videos, either animations or cosplays who want to allude that they'd "get freaky" or that Kanae wants to get undressed when he sees him or something...am I overreacting or gagging a little is a fair reaction to this?

They were MINORS.

No matter how much I might not like Kanae as a character, I find it baffling when she's sexualized or mischaracterized by anyone. Kanae was created for Shinobu. Kanae is Shinobu's fuel, her motive, the reason behind her grief and her anger and her overall initial character development and the way she planned her own demise all revolved around her older sister. Kanae exists for Shinobu, not to be any man's love interest.

Let's also be fr, Kanae was more of a mother to Sanemi rather than a love interest, they had heavy platonic subtext in the 1 and half interactions that they had. Romanticizing the Light Novel's interaction specifically, would mean projecting Œdipus complex onto Sanemi, which is absolutely messed up considering the amount of people I've seen justify that with "but it was her hands!" who do you think that touch belongs to? would you think about your dad or any family member if a person you like touched you?

But that's besides the point, I respect the ship per se and I acknowledge it's 100% up to the viewer's interpretation; but if you're one of the shippers who overlooks Sanemi's character, sexualizes and mischaracterizes their bond and water down Kanae's character to "she's the girl that Sanemi likes" AND/OR even spread misinformation and consider them as canon while harassing other shippers then please take several seats.

I'm usually very chill about ships, rarepairs, anything as long as it's legal, but this behavior from shippers is where I draw the line + those ShinoGiyuu shippers who also do the exact same thing to Giyuu and Shinobu, and I kinda like them as a pair so I'm not being biased here.

Been thinking about kny modern au, so here are some headcanons 😊 —

Makomo, Giyuu, Sabito, Mitsuri, Tengen and Kyojuro all are going to the same middle school + high school — were in different grades ofc but they were friends. But makomo was actually already a graduate when Sabito was 15 but since she hadn't moved out she was still friends with them, I can also see her being friends with Kanae idk.

Sanemi and Obanai are going to the same highschool and have been best friends ever since.

Muichiro (w/ his bro yuichiro, I didn't forget) will go to the same middle school as Senjuro and Nezuko.

Gyuutaro and Shinobu are going to the same middle school. Kanae is about to graduate. +ume and Kanao will go to the same middle school (I love kimetsu gakuen sm for all the new friendships it has fr fr)

Zenitsu, Genya, Tanjiro and Inosuke will go to the same highschool.

Now that that's outta the way, I'm going to start with the first friend group (Makomo, Giyuu, Sabito, Tengen, Mitsuri and Rengoku). Also, I used present continuous in accordance to the time line I'm looking from, they'll be graduated before the 'will go' would reach school.

Makomo —

she was a rabid fan of those elastic bracelets you make out of rubber bands — idk what they're called, sorry but her hands are filled with those and so are her drawers and she still loves wearing them, she even gave some to mitsuri.

she liked making flower wreathes alot but ever since she started her college she hasn't had enough time to make jewellery and flower crowns.

i feel like as a child she wanted to become a vet as a child, but she's right now studying to be a science teacher (chemistry — currently earning a bachelor's degree, then she's going to take a teaching program course).

i feel like she was (is but won't admit) obsessed with creepy pastas. Like there used to be a desktop at home that was for makomo's studies (sabito used to play purble place on it) and her youtube would be FILLED with creepy pastas, ghost appearances videos, urban legends etc.

she always and I mean ALWAYS has salty snacks on her, hungry? she'll give you some no problem. it's like she breathes, lives, bathes in salt.

she really likes making whistles and learned woodwork from her grandfather (Urokodaki) and in her free time she plays them to relax whenever she's stressed.

Giyuu —

He dresses like adam sandler, there's no way he's goth or punk or whatever, he's not. He continues to wear the same polo tshirts and and halfpants on a daily basis.

although he wouldn't admit it publically, he still loves playing with toys — any weird obsession you had as a kid? You'll find it with him. Extending that he's also loves childish things ALOT but he doesn't like being told to grow up so he only talks to his friends about them.

he would stay up late at night to watch 'courage the cowardly dog' (me too bro, me too) and then end up scaring himself. and it annoys all of his friends when they're all watching scary movies together and he screams so loud that the whole ass neighbourhood could hear them.

he has continuously tried to make time machines countless times to see dinosaurs (with Kyojuro). and he still believes that he will find a way to time travel with cardboard.

he begged his sister for ear piercings (even though he's afraid of needles) after looking at hers and started crying in the process of getting his ears pierced.

Sabito —

He loves doodling on his hands. ALOT, every time he's free and there's a pen in his hands, his hands, legs — anything exposed is GOING TO be covered in ink somehow. He just zones out into a happy state while doing so.

he loves watching super sentai (or power rangers which was the usa adaptation and what I watched first lol), and animes that have mecha in them (did I talk about anime prefrences for the others? Idts).

one day he discovered henna art and has NOT let go ever since. the moment the last design is near disappearance he does it again, so his hand is always stained in henna designs. and he got Tengen (who loves fashion and thought it was flashy) and Mitsuri into henna art too.

one of his hobbies is finding new music (it's productive according to him), he goes into incognito tab and looks for music, sometimes old, sometimes with a certain feeling etc.

extending on the headcanon no. 4 of makomo where I mentioned he liked to play purble place — he once opened youtube on the desktop and found all the horror videos and boom, makomo got him into supernatural stuff too, he doesn't particularly believe it, he's like it could be or could not be but he's very interested in it. and once asked giyuu to perform a ritual with him and then called giyuu a wuss because he was too scared to do it.

the idea is Aizetsu and Genya like each other since mid school but they never go steady and keep their relationship a secret. Aizetsu wanna make it official and be public but Genya is not ready cause he's scared of what his brother gonna say.

Sanemi and Genya doesn't have a bad relationship but Genya doesn't want to dissapoint his brother cause he thinks to much about what his brother would say. And Aizetsu doesn't exactly have a good reputation at school plus his brother is a teacher there.. so it's complicated.

i made Aizetsu an orphan here and the other clones doesn't exist here sorry :c he lives in the school dorms since he start middle school. HANCHAN EXIST THO HAHAHA HE'S TANJIRO'S HALF BALD CAT HEHE. I've thought the scenario when Aizetsu first met Hanchan. Aizetsu find the cat so ugly and was about to tell Tanjiro how ugly his cat is but Tanjiro said "omg this is the first time Hanchan greet a visitor 🥺🥺 he usually hides until the guest are gone" so he keep his mouth shut.

Aizetsu was patient but it's their third year of highschool and Genya still doesn't say anything which worries Aizetsu.. and here comes Tanjiro :>

Tanjiro is a year younger than Aizetsu and Genya but has interact with Aizetsu.. They met when Tanjiro starts highschool.. He was lost looking for a classroom he was suppose to be and met Aizetsu who's skipping class and help him show the way to said classroom. Tanjiro developed a silly crush on him. They exchange "hi" everytime they met but that's it lol. Genya like to tease Aizetsu about him but Genya thinks Tanjiro is too kind to be true so he try to avoid him lol

one day Aizetsu got a love letter from someone and was asked to meet him afterschool.. he thought it was from Genya and was very happy that they'll be official.

turns out it was from Tanjiro :c. He was dared by his friends to confess his feelings to his crush. Tanjiro was hopeful but looking at Aizetsu's visible disappointment he knew he'll be rejected.. But dare is a dare and Tanjiro never back down. Aizetsu was sad but decided to use this opportunity to make Genya jelly.

Tanjiro was both surprised and happy by this so they become boyfriends :). Since then Aizetsu start avoiding Genya and hang around Tanjiro more. He still talk to Genya but nothing more like before and always brag about him going to hangout with his boyfriend. Genya was unhappy but he can't really say anything since they are not official so he just let him be but still keep an eye on them..

Aizetsu was happy that his plan worked and he can see Genya seething when he sees them together. Aizetsu is counting the days til Genya came back to him.

Months pass by and Genya still doesn't show any sign to get back together.. Meanwhile Tanjiro was being the good boyfriend he is. making bento for Aizetsu, pick him up to school every morning and walk him back home (it's funny cause he lives in a dorm nearby lol). Sometimes Aizetsu stay the night at Tanjiro's house when he's bored.

Tanjiro lives alone since his family went back to their hometown when his father's health keep getting worse. They were told by their doctor that it's better for him to live in a place with fresh air than here in the city. Tanjiro stays to finish his schooling and planned to go back home when he graduates.

Aizetsu still focus on Genya but he did find Tanjiro endearing in some occasions.. Aizetsu doesn't blatantly ignores Tanjiro but he doesn't put much effort in their relationship either.

come graduation, Aizetsu thinks that the planned failed cause Genya still doesn't say anything so he decided to break up with Tanjiro after the graduation. It was nice while it last but he's not that invested and he'll be out of school anyway so they won't have time to meet now that he have to go to work.

Tanjiro was devastated when Aizetsu break up with him. He begged him to stay but Aizetsu told him that he's just a rebound and it's nothing serious. But then Tanjiro told him that he knew from the start that Azetsu was just using him to make Genya jealous. But he ignores it and try to make Aizetsu fell for him. He might not realized it but Tanjiro notice that he start to reciprocate his feelings. but Aizetsu told him that he's just projecting and he is just lonely cause his family is not here. Then Tanjiro asked if he still has feelings for Genya. Aizetsu can't answer it and told him that it's none of his business and that they are done.

Tanjiro still plead to give their relationship more chance.. He asked if they can try again just until he graduates next year, if Aizetsu still feel the same then he won't bother him anymore and will be out of his life for good.

Aizetsu said that he'll think about it and to give him some time alone. He told Tanjiro to stop contacting him til he said so and he agrees. Aizetsu did a little self reflection and think back about their time together. He did felt something toward Tanjiro on some occassions and enjoys his company but try to ignore it cause his goal was to be back with Genya. But now that he's given up on Genya, guess he coud try again this time focusing only on Tanjiro.

He accept Tanjiro's offer and they start going out. But now that Aizetsu is out of school and has found work he could only have time on weekends but he'll spare some time to walk him home from school. This goes on for months and he start to enjoy this. But one day when he was waiting for Tanjiro at school he met Genya.

Genya asked if they can get back together. Aizetsu is annoyed and ask why now, Genya said that he finally find the courage and talked to his brother. His brother told him that he thinks too much and that he's happy as long as he's happy no matter what. Now Aizetsu is conflicted. If this happen a few months ago he would gladly accept but now..

so Aizetsu told him that he needs to think about this and asked Tanjiro what he should do. Tanjiro was of course annoyed cause its unfair to ask him about this. It's up to Aizetsu to decide not him. Though he advice Aizetsu to hang out with Genya as friends. if he still have those feelings then he's free to leave and get back with Genya. Beside they are still on their "trial" so Tanjiro have no right to decide anything. Aizetsu did take his advice and start hanging out with Genya again. It was awkward at first but it didn't take long for them to go back like they used to be. But Aizetsu start to notice while he's back on a friendly term with Genya, he doesn't have any more lingering feelings towards Genya. He keep thinking about Tanjiro.

One day Genya told him that he misses Aizetsu. He asked if they can do "it" no string attached. Aizetsu is very conflicted about this but said yes. In his mind maybe this can proof if he's still into him or not. And it won't be cheating since he's technically still single. But when Genya touch him, he shoved Genya away and ran.

He run to Tanjiro's house, and keep apologizing for cheating on him. Tanjiro was confused but try to console him. After he calms down, Tanjiro asked what happened and was explained about the incident. Then Tanjiro burst into tears which made Aizetsu panics and start apologizing again and told him that he'll do anything to make up for his mistake. then Tanjiro told him to shut up that he's just relieved that Aizetsu finaly reciprocate his feelings and willing to forget whatever happened in the past and have a fresh start with their relationship.. and they live happily ever after (?) thank you for reading :) i wanna think about something sad so i made this AU lmao maybe i'll draw something for this story but im not sure lol
