Colm prefers quantity over quality in his men, as Dutch as told us. He enjoys exerting power over others. I hardly think he has certain reservations against homosexuals. Or at least he doesn't hold those same reservations for himself.

Colm likes power over his men. And working women are only avaliable at so many places. So he has definitely let out his physical and sexual frustration out on his men. cough cough. Kieran. cough cough.

I also headcanon that he had feelings for Dutch. Dutch learned of these feelings and killed Colm's brother. So he killed Anabelle (Dutch's brother) out of jealousy and for revenge.

That headcanon extends to Kieran. They had the Van der Linde gang see Kieran's body so Dutch could see it. So Dutch could know Kieran was one of his favorite boys—and Dutch ruined him.

So him having a masc/male darling feels more in character to me than anything.
