The VVitch
I love this film, granted it’s a slow burn and not so very scary but I still love it. It has quite a few well known actors in it and the way they portray the characters is perfect.
The fact that it’s called a New England Folk Tale makes me so happy! The accents are great and don’t slide at all during the whole film and the family dynamics that are portrayed are so realistic.
The story may be a bit slow to begin with but once the young son has his episode and dies everything starts to kick off. I love the idea of witches as old forest ladies using baby pulp to regain their youth, as well as having massive gatherings around a fire at night. They’re the best witches in my opinion! I have to say as well that even though we only see black Philip in human form for a few moments it’s done so god damn well.
So even though this film isn’t really so very scary, I think that the atmosphere that it creates using dull and bleak surroundings and screechy, whiny music definitely gives you a shiver down your spine.
Would definitely recommend if you don’t mind a slow burner.
7/10
