Hi sorry not to disagree I'm just confused I thought the whole point of annulment was to render them immune from possession so they weren't a risk. How do they get possessed while tranquil?

Hi! Just to clarify, the Rite of Annulment is Chantry permission to kill all mages within a Circle. We'll be talking about the Rite of Tranquility.

In a recent post discussing Zara Renata and forced possession (contains veilguard spoilers), I mentioned the book Asunder, where we learn about the cure to Tranquility the first time.

The Tranquil can be possessed - The book Asunder is about how Tranquility is cured by possession. The Divine sent Pharamond, a Tranquil, to try and find a cure. Tl;dr, he goes to the western approach, summons a demon to posses him, and it works. "Not immune! Undesirable!" Pharamond tells us in Asunder. "A demon looks to possess a man because it wishes to experience life. To them, a Tranquil is no better than an inanimate object. Worse, since a Tranquil will resist [...] it needs to be lured." Anyone can be possessed. Inanimate objects like trees can be possessed. Lucanis points out that he's seen ashes and hair possessed.

To elaborate a little more, Pharamond forcefully summons a demon, as as soon it makes contact with his mind, the Tranquility is broken. In doing so, he becomes possessed and the protagonist goes into the Fade to reverse the possession. They free Pharamond from the demon, but he remains cured of Tranquility. The Chantry demands he be made Tranquil again, but we don't know if that is actually possible as he dies before we find out.

Seekers of Truth also have their Tranquility broken by drawing a spirit to themselves and (depending on if you believe Lord Seeker Lucius/how you read it) are abominations.

In DA:I as well, we learn that the occularum are created by drawing a demon to a Tranquil and killing them the exact moment of the forced possession. From the codex entry:

Remember, the skull will only attune properly if the Tranquil is in close proximity to one of the shards when the demon is forced to possess him. Even then, the blow must be delivered immediately.

For a more concrete example, from what I understand, in DAO a Tranquil is also possessed during the Broken Circle Quest (my Origins knowledge is a bit shaky so this might not be true).

The Chantry didn't learn any of this concretely until around 9:40 Dragon, and the discovery is what lead to the Templar Order splitting from the Chantry and launched the Mage-Templar war in full.

Possession of the Tranquil is highly uncommon and must be externally initiated since they do not have a natural connection with the Fade or the emotional draw that other people do, but it is very much possible.

I never thought about the multiple variations of when Dorothy was married as Sophia trying to publicly protect her but wow. I do wonder how much Dorothy understands Sophia is protecting her, because there's definitely Complicated Feelings between them and it seems like maybe Dorothy sees Sophia's disappointment/anger first (do they ever mention how Sal felt? I remember Dorothy saying she always thought he wasn't proud of her or something but idk if it was related to her pregnancy ... also gotta wonder how it effected her relationship with Gloria and Phil)

I've got a lot of things to say about this, so I'm putting my thoughts under the cut to avoid clogging people's dashes haha

I personally think Dorothy doesn't really know the extent of how much Sophia cares for/protects her in those moments (& those moments specifically, because I feel like she's otherwise pretty attuned to the way Sophia shows affection? They've got pretty similar problems around opening up with other people and several of their scenes together show that they've sort of found a way around this!) But their general relationship aside, it's pretty clear in several instances that Dorothy is hurt by Sophia's remarks on her marriage with Stan, her pregnancy, etc — so I can't help but think she's not too aware of what Sophia is doing, trying to help and protect her? Especially when, in a lot of cases, she could've just said nothing and avoided hurting Dorothy entirely; there's usually a less hurtful path involved, but Sophia purposely chooses to make her remarks. Whether or not they're constructed to protect Dorothy in one way or another, she still makes the choice to hurt her too (although, knowing Sophia, I doubt she's fully aware of the effects her words have? Idk, that's some food for thought!)

It seems like this isn't a topic either of them has ever been too willing to discuss, let alone openly and emotionally. Sophia tends to deal with things with jokes and nasty comments, and Dorothy seems to shut everyone out entirely. I'm not sure where I'm going with this exactly haha, but what I'm trying to say is their coping methods are too far apart (and too similar) for the opportunity for any real, constructive conversation about this to have occurred? So maybe Sophia is reaching out to Dorothy in her way (the only way she knows how to) and Dorothy... Well, I think she mentioned it genuinely hurts her at some point (though I'm not sure if that was in response to a Stan-related comment or something else) which I think means we can conclude she doesn't see the deeper layer behind Sophia's behaviour — or maybe she does, but it doesn't take away the hurt?

As for Sal: I believe Dorothy mentioned something about his reaction in S5, E13: Mary Had A Little Lamb. I don't remember her speech in its entirety, but she mentioned something about "Only having one parent [Sophia]" for a while, so I think Sal took it a lot less well than Sophia.

Good point about Gloria and Phil too!! I genuinely have no clue. We do know Dorothy's a lot older than both of them (I think she was 7 when Phil was born, and if I remember correctly, it's implied that he was the middle sibling?) so if Dorothy was 17 when she got pregnant and married Stan, it means Phil and Gloria were 10 and under. She was, by all accounts, An Adult to them already — so it might not have damaged their relationship, so much as changed their perception of her? I'm sure they could've been a lot closer if Dorothy had been allowed to stay at home and be a child for longer than she was. As it is, I can't help but wonder if they ever saw her as their peer or more like an older relative?

At the risk of exposing myself, suffice to say I'm currently in the middle of writing a drabble that will showcase how Rafiel handles loss (once it's posted, I will edit this reply), but to put it simply, he generally handles it in a typical Heron fashion: badly.

Herons are highly emotionally attuned and negative emotions, both in themselves and in others, tend to translate into suffering and illness in them. Their intensity will vary depending on exactly what happened and how heavy it was, and it can range from headache and nausea, through collapsing and being out of commission for a prolonged period of time, all the way to death.

In the story, we mostly see the more extreme end of this spectrum, as the main mentioned loss that the Herons had to deal with was the Serenes Massacre, which... well. Yeah. We don't know a lot in canon about how Reyson took it in the beginning, but we know that King Lorazieh ended up comatose and was bedridden for more than two decades, and as for Rafiel...

The way he describes feeling as though he got possessed, and the way he doesn't remember at all how he ended up in the Desert of Death while attempting to get to Serenes (which, looking at the map of Tellius, is in the completely opposite direction), rings of essentially going insane. This is on top of the fact that he was supposed to have already lost the ability to fly at that point - although, considering that he may have had to make it through freakin' Daein to get where he got, I'm gonna say that he most likely regained it temporarily during that time. Not that going so delirious that he forcibly pushed himself past a disability speaks well of how well he took it. The fact that Nailah was able to bring him back from the brink is nothing short of a miracle.

So yeah! He handled it better than expected, considering he didn't die of all that grief at the very least, but he certainly did not handle it well. And while it can be said that participating in the war may have made him stronger in some aspects, it's unlikely that it has made it any easier for him to deal with matters such as loss going forward.

I've been having a lot of panic attacks lately where I get super shaky an overheated, an just kind of stare off while crying, an the thought of Bo calming me down has been helping them not last long but there bad when they hit...

You had known when you had got out of bed this morning that it was going to be a difficult day. The trembling had started just as soon as your feet had touched the floor, your body full of anxiety and your mind overridden with fear of the unknown. How on earth you were going to make it through the day, you knew not, but you had to try. There were simply too many things to do around Ambrose and there was no time for you to worry about your emotions; they would come and go but the to do list would always remain, no matter how hard you worked.

You were fine...

... Until you weren't.

The shaking of your hands worsened through the day, as did your overall jumpiness. After the sixth time of making you jump in as many minutes just by walking into the room or tapping upon the nearest surface to get your attention, Vincent had gone to find Bo to tip him off about your deteriorating state. The youngest twin knew all the signs and symptoms of a panic attack and he was highly attuned to your distress. Ambrose was barely big enough for the three personalities which lived in it, so vibrant were they each in their own rights, so when one of you wasn't okay, everyone felt it.

When you became so shaky that your knees could no longer support you, you made your way over from the kitchen sink, where you had been staring out of the window, to the worn sofa in the living room. You had to sit down before you fell down, your breathing picking up just enough to catch Bo's attention, sat on the sofa was he cleaning his rifle. He barely glanced at you when you plopped down beside him, his icy blues trained on the television before you. There was some old movie on, one he had seen a hundred times before, but one he enjoyed mostly for its familiarity.

There was safety in the familiar, comfort, or there was supposed to be, but the quickening of your breathing was a familiar sound when you had woken up on a certain side of the bed and it was most definitely not comforting for the eldest Sinclair to hear. His shoulders stiffened and Bo turned to look at you, knowing before he did what he would find; you, staring off into space, crying and shaking like a damn leaf with your mind somewhere he couldn't follow.

Sometimes, Bo really fucking hated being right.

Your next breath caught in your throat and you tried to inhale, tried to take some more oxygen in, but you sobbed at the same second and seemed almost to choke, the strangled noise accompanied by tears pouring hot and fast down your cheeks as your careful facade crashed around you. You were shaking so hard that Bo's space beside you was moving, too, and you were almost bent over in half with the force of your crying. Bo wasn't as versed in medicine as his twin was but even he knew that that was negatively impacting your breathing.

"Whoa, hey," Bo put the rifle on the coffee table and turned to you, his knees facing you so that you knew he was wholly focused on you. "Easy, darlin'." His hands reached out somewhat awkwardly as he tried to move from the front so that you could see him coming towards you, but you were still staring off into space, your body trembling and you were clearly too hot. That was one of the physical symptoms your body displayed during a panic attack; a prickly heat spread across your skin and through your veins and it was usually one of the first signs you felt. The brothers picked up on your changed temperament, increased jumpiness and shattered nerves, but only you could feel the sickly rise in body temperature.

Bo's hands landed on your shoulders and the calloused pads of his thumbs rubbed circles there as he moved to crouch in front of you. "Can y'talk t'me, Y/N? What's the matter wit' you, huh?"

You shook your head and leaned forward, forward, until your forehead, so hot from the inside that you felt like your brain was cooking, so fried were your nerves, was resting against the sharp angle of Bo's collarbone. Your breaths were coming in harsh pants now and Bo was desperately trying to calm you down, his hands sliding down, down, until he was rubbing up and down your back in strong, rough but fluid movements. Up, down, up, down... you wrestled with yourself and actively focused on the movement of his hands. Up was an inhale, down was an exhale. It was something you had practiced before with him when you had had panic attacks and after the first time it had happened, when Bo didn't know how else to try to help you, he had rubbed your back and you had aligned his touch with your body in a way which was beneficial to you.

It had helped at that particular time and now with how frequent your panic attacks were, it was almost a tradition for you to match your breathing to Bo's touches. It was why he was so slow when he rubbed your back as he muttered the count Vincent had taught him under his breath. When a Sinclair was hurt, the other Sinclairs all pulled together to help out. It was how things had always been and would always be in Ambrose. If one Sinclair wasn't okay, all the Sinclairs felt it until such a time as whatever wasn't right had worked out.

"Shush, shush," Bo angled his head awkwardly as your breathing began to regulate so that he could press a kiss to your temple. "Shush, darlin', I got'cha. Bo's got'cha, huh? Yeah, y're all right. Bo's got'cha. Y'jus' focus on breathing, all righ'? Get some air into those beautiful lungs'a yours. Y'jus' breathe, honey. Bo's right here. M'not goin' anywhere, not so long as y're like this." Bo continued to say sweet nothings to you, but, oh, he meant every word.

Bo pushed forward into you so that he could wrap his arms around you into a hug when your breathing finally came down and you melted into him so much that he could feel your heart racing against his own. "C'mere, darlin', I got'cha." Bo stood, still hugging you, and moved himself so that he could sit beside you to resume his previous position to allow you to crawl into his lap and get yourself comfortable. Panic attacks took so much out of you physically that you usually napped right after, and Bo was always there for you for that, too. Hell, most of the time, he napped with you, for even in sleep, Bo would follow you.

He loved you too much to go somewhere without you, and that included those parts within you which tried to destroy you from the inside out.

"Tha - thank you, Bo. Fo - for staying. Thank you." You gripped him tightly, a gesture totally at odds with the uncertainty of your words and the dampness of your cheeks and Bo smiled to himself in relief as he felt you coming back down.

"Y'don't gotta thank me, darlin'," Bo scoffed and pressed a rough kiss to your forehead, his lips pressing so hard against your skin that you could feel the outline of his teeth through his lips. "S'what I'm here for." Pointedly did he lean back against the arm of the sofa and you took the invitation to lay across his body, wrapping your arms around him and getting comfortable. And if you fell asleep and Bo happened to drape a blanket over you to make you more cosy than you already were in the fleshy cage of his embrace, then who was Vincent to snap a picture from one of the many darkened, dusty corners of the house with which to tease his brother with later?

When I was 1 month into BTS, watching their past contents, I immediately noticed jikook and would keep an eye on them on current contents. after a while I was comparing the old contents with the new ones and there seemed to be a difference. people noticed it and bloggers would brush them off saying they don't have to be all over each other, and to just wait for future content. true enough when Memo 2020 and MOTS came, during the times that I thought they were having a problem, they actually didn't. they said that even before, they had that instances where people thought they were distant then GCFT or official content was released. What do you think? could it be that they were constantly having rough patches? even in LA, if Jimin didn't mention JK was always in his room, I would think they're distant and avoiding each other. Contrast them with the get out of your imagination and ITS talk of tk.even to me I didnt think tk had a problem. when I watch past content I was even surprised they were having an issue that time, even in ITS itself. they didn't seem to have an issue until their 1 on 1.

Yes, some people see them as distant or stuff when others don't. There are some who saw them distant and like something was wrong between them in freaking 2018. The end of 2018 was actually the birth of so many solos pjms because during MAMA Jungkook went to hug and comfort a crying Taehyung and not Jimin, who was also crying. That was right after the almighty Melon Music Awards! Many JM biased jikookers resented JK for that and decided to become solos. Plus other stuff that happened in the end of 2018 with Jimin. I know also that many JK biased jikookers changed their minds about Jimin in 2019, too. And you'd think those were The Best of Times for jikook and jikookers.

I'm totally not like, a paranoid person and I don't have a negative mindset about anything tbh. I'm highly attuned to my own feelings and I'm frankly a bit too intense about honesty. The only time I personally felt like there was detachment between Jimin and JK, it was November 2019 - all through 2020. I could see that they still got along with each other but to me there was nothing else beyond that. I don't wanna repeat myself since I've talked about it so many times lol. I started believing they were together in 2019, so of course my "expectations" from them changed in that year. You don't expect two friends to act the same way as two partners, you know? It's the way you would expect them to be there for each other's birthdays or important events but are like "whatever" if any BTS member doesn't attend. It's the way people say "of courseeee he's there" when Jimin stayed while JK got his stitches removed. You expect that from a partner. It's not even about "expectations" in the correct sense of the word, it's about believing JK and JM are dating and then actually seeing the correlation between what you believe and what you see. So for me it was that during that period I mentioned; I just didn't see them behaving like partners. There was no difference between jikook and any other ship for me. Other ships even seemed closer than jikook while Nov 2019 - 2020 was going on. The only thing that stood out to me was them apparently living together back then. But of course I had and still have no idea what they did when they went back to their place, so while it was GREAT to see them leaving and arriving together like that everytime, I also didnt really know what it actually meant for them. I still dont know, actually.

So, no. I don't think they are/were constantly having rough patches. I think it's probably just as simple as everyone and each one of us having different personalities, going through different stuff in our real lives that might affect how we feel about everything else. Some people might need to constantly see them being okay and like they're "whipped" and tbh it's just who we are. I think there's also the fact that a lot of us are not on the same "timeline" regarding jikook. Some thought that they were dating back in 2018 so when JK, JM's supposed partner, decided to comfort someone else instead of his own crying boyfriend, they changed their minds about jikook. I didn't think they were together when MAMA 2018 happened, so I didn't care about it, I mean, both Tae and Jimin were equal friends to JK in my mind back then. Then 2019 and 2020 came and the times that Jimin cried those years, JK did go to him. And it makes sense for when in my opinion they started seeing hooking up, fooling around, being intimate, whatever you wanna call it.

Jikookers' feelings aside, I think it's hard to say if they're actually going trough something because we see so little of them unless it's like, Bon Voyage or stuff like that, where we see them almost 24/7 and IF they're not actively trying to hide how they're feeling. In New Zealand if you didn't know what JK was going through, you definitely won't notice it from watching Bon Voyage. In the end he says he tried to be happy for the fans watching, but boy was he going through a lot off camera. Sometimes it slips thru the cracks anyways like namjoon saying we can't be too close, or how on edge he was during ITS1.

I mean, another grea example would be their group crisis in 2018. They were considering disbanding in 2018 but nobody. Nobody. noticed that they had problems or thought that something was wrong or realized how much they were going through while the year was going on because they looked really good, they seemed fine, the comebacks were huge, they achieved a lot, they had a bigger tour. Then end of the year came and they said they wanted to disband and how miserable they felt. They released LY: Tear that year and after listening to Outro: Tear everyone was like omg who broke yoongi's heart like this. WELL... Come 2019 and Yoongi says he wrote Outro Tear about the members and the stuff they were going through in 2018 when they wanted to disband. People died.

Then, taekook too how they weren't that close anymore and nobody actually noticed that. They seemed fine.

So... it's a mess lmao. Bottom line is, we don't know anything and we see so little that probably nobody could draw an accurate picture of what they're going through, their real, off cam dynamics and to some extent, about their personalities.

My personal opinion tho, is that Jikook weren't always going through rough patches but they definitely had some, which could be the ones people noticed or could be like, Rose Bowl, for all we know. I think that something as huge as a "break up" would definitely be obvious, tho. But we wouldn't necessarily notice if they like, had an argument because one of them stared at the waiter/waitress for too long. It really comes down to whatever they wanna show/share, and if they want to show and share that they're okay without actually being okay, we will see them as okay.

🥢 This ask was a bit more difficult because of the whole V3 plot and the ending and all that. I thought about it and just decided I'd write this ask as if you were a member of the trials as well.

🥢 Kaito is really uplifting and loves getting along with introverts, and originally gets closer to you due to your shy nature! He likes trying to bring up your mood, and is really supportive of your insecurities. Kaito would even try to pay attention to things you're insecure about so he could come off as encouraging as possible.

🥢 Once you start opening up to him, he’s pleasantly surprised, and really excited that you’re feeling more comfortable around him.

🥢 Both you and Kaito rarely have filters around each other. You speak your minds, and enjoy the honesty you two share. It helps that Kaito basically runs on his moral compass, which is pretty sound and easy to understand and agree with.

🥢 You and Maki would get along well! Instead of her becoming Kaito's love interest, you and Kaito would become one of her very good friends! You're less violent and also an introvert, so there're aspects of you two that are pretty similar and could lead to a pretty solid platonic relationship.

🥢 You two stick together pretty close. Kaito is very attuned to making plans, and tries to understand people and their emotional capabilities as well, trying to take off as much emotional loads as possible. So he'd come up with several ways to hang out with each other, seeming as innocent, but really just a way to keep an eye out for you. He's really scared something will happen to you, but he doesn't want to come off as possessive or stress-inducing.

🥢 He really likes your obsessive nature, because Kaito is the same way! When Kaito likes something he's got it set in stone, even if it's just a small whim, he pursues all his goals and wishes really passionately. So Kaito likes seeing people who are just as passionate as him, and is really supportive of your art and will listen to you rant for hours if you'd like, maybe even debate if you need to.

🥢Kaito wouldn't ask you out. He knows he's dying, he can't put you through the emotional turmoil, it'll crush you. As much as Kaito wants to distance himself, he can't, and he thinks it's selfish of him.

🥢 You have to ask him out. It's scary, but so are the killing games. You never know if one of you will die and you need him to know about your feelings.

🥢 When you tell him I'd imagine your stutter taking over. Your shyness takes over but Kaito understands exactly what you're trying to say. He's torn but on cloud nine at the exact same time.

🥢 The days before Kaito's death you spend cuddling and spending time alone, distancing yourself from the others as much as possible. But he disappears into the bathroom for extended periods of time, sometimes Kaito would even leave you alone in one of your rooms claiming to be getting food but coming back empty-handed and forgetting entirely why he'd left in the first place.

🥢 There's a high level of trust in your relationship, there has to be when you're dating in the middle of a killing trials. So you wouldn't expect him to be a killer, only worrying about his safety.

🥢 You're surprised he didn't know you were an artist. When he sees several paintings around your larger than average house he's immediately intrigued. And when you tell him of your fundraisers, that's when Soma starts to grow feelings for you.

🥢 Soma really admires you at this point. He'd always seen himself as the mediator of your friendship, a guide. But now he respects you as someone equal.

🥢 As you two start going out more, Soma asks for Agni to accompany him less and less. Then it gets to the point where Soma and you would always spend time with each other alone, usually in the comfort of your home.
