I'm glad if the post doesn't say that, but asking what the real implications are is the sort of thing that I see many people conclude is 'sexism', thus my read on the op. Particularly given the rb with a vid of that title.
The comment about the vid in my tags was in reference to the end of the video where the person says 'next time you sit down to write' etc etc. I realize it's something personal to me, but in general I have never liked any call to action in this category, where you tell someone to do something they evidently don't want to do (by the fact it isn't being done and you're commenting on that) and the only reasons given to start doing so is implied to be a sort of personal failing or something. I don't want to take up too many words on explaining what I mean on it though, for the most part I tried to not mention the vid since it's not the og point I don't believe.
I have a lot of opinions about why there isn't generally female MCs or so on which comes down to genre and demographics and all this, but as I understand this is focused on receptiveness to female chars moreso than writing them, so trying to focus on that topic in my reply. I think a lot of it is going to be different from person to person rather than a broad sweeping statement.
'do we want to examine this' to me is an implication of morality. I don't think it's a moral issue, I think it's a preference. Which is interesting, and I like to discuss possible reasons. I've discussed it a lot with people before this post, so I'm on board with going through why this happens, because I do think it's strange. But whenever it gets tied to big important things is offputting to me.
"honestly, nobody asked about what your personal reasons for finding women characters less interesting are."
So I don't get it. If we want to examine it, but don't want to look at personal reasons, then what's the point of the post? This seems contradicting to me, can you elaborate? If it's about society in some sense, I believe personal reasons are the first step into seeing how it would be society, even if I don't quite view This as a societal matter.
As I mentioned, there's defensiveness due to the implication of morality, if there isn't an implication of morality, then I don't think most people mind discussing it. I don't think it's embarrassing, I disagree with the assertion and thought this might open up some discussion on the topic. To me the defensiveness comment seemed to be about the nature of the reality of if they have all male favs etc, which is why I confirmed that I am such a person, so I can give information from that perspective. If it's about the nature of accusing someone of something harmful they don't believe they contribute to, I would expect defensiveness honestly
i dont really know how to articulate this but its crazy just how many people dont even realize they dont care about female characters. all their faves are men. they never talk about girls without being led into it. and when you try to point this out to them they try to defend themselves that their faves are just the archetypes they like, despite clearly not caring when that same archetype is a woman. like i feel like at a certain point it is your problem with the common denominator if you cant find a single female character to enjoy
