Ranking MCU Captain America figures
Before I begin, I want to clarify this is about my enjoyment of these characters and NOT who i think are the best morality or power wise. I specify because I think my first two entries will upset some people and I want to say, this list is NOT in order of how much I agree with these characters' values. I have a heavy favoritism towards theme and character interaction and that is where a lot of my enjoyment from media comes from. So, let's begin.
6. Captain America: CW, IW, and Endgame
I'm separating Steve into two because around CW he starts making decisions that really frustrate me.
Now I do think there is a lot to like still! His conviction to his morals during the Accords and continuing arc about government distrust is great, his stand against Thanos in IW is amazing, he is a lot of fun to watch during the New York part of the time heist, and lifting Mjolnir was legit my best theater moment ever and i will NEVER forget it.
However, in CW he starts making some awful decisions. In CW, he kisses Sharon like, days after Peggy's funeral. While on it's own it's already kinda creepy, Endgame retroactively makes this even worse. It goes on to also have grave consequence because he and Sam asked Sharon to break the law for them and never followed through to help her, which was pretty awful of them. At least Sam tries to make it right in TFATWS, but since Steve left that wrong on Sharon never gets reconciled from him.
I also think that his decision to keep Bucky and Howard's history a secret from Tony was really, really stupid. While I side with him during the fight, the fact that Steve "doesn't like when his teammates withhold information" Rogers didn't tell Tony this then walked into a Winter Soldier facility with Bucky and Tony during the most strained time of their relationship was just begging for that conflict.
He is barely in IW and while his stand against Thanos is a great moment, his decision to not let Vision kill himself is very frustrating. "We don't trade lives" then he goes to Wakanda to let thousands of soldiers die while they try and get the stone out, really dude?
I don't think going back in time in Endgame was inherently a bad ending but things he does to make it happen really frustrates me. He shows no signs of mourning Bucky or Sam at all. And then for the sake of surprise for the audience, he never tells Sam what he's doing and that is so awful. Sam dedicates 4 years of his life helping Steve with a good portion of it being on the run. Sam was with Steve more during the present than ANYONE else. Then Steve just leaves without telling him and shows back up to drop a ton of responsibility on Sam that he didn't ask for. Now Sam is an amazing Cap but it's frustrating to see that a lot of TFATWS is fallout of Steve's bad decisions in these three movies.
5. Captain America: John Walker
Now hold on, I hate this man. I think he does some awful things, so why is he above anyone else? Just because he isn't frustrating to me, he fits thematically and has good interactions with others in TFATWS.
His character really adds to the themes and discussions of white privilege, Supremacy, as well as how the US military treats their soldiers like shit, and I think he is an interesting character to watch as he starts out edging the line of evil and by the end of episode 4 crosses it. While I think Bucky was overall a bit too chummy with him in 6, I think it was all mostly in character for them. Sam and Bucky were up against 6 super soldiers and Batroc in a highly crowded city with lots of important people, it makes sense to me that they take his help in this scenario. They also never leave him alone which indicates distrust.
I also really like the moment where he drops the shield to help the truck. He is a shitty person but he is shown as a person who at least wants to do good, even though any challenge to that he goes off the rails. It is such a black and white scenario, help the truck of innocents, and I like that he does it. It also adds to the hatred of him as a person because it shows he clearly knows better but chooses to ignore it, which makes him even more despicable.
I think it is very important that a man like him bore the title of Captain America because it reminds us all that yes, it is very easy that a man like him represents America as it is and that we need to do better than him.
I like watching him and that's why he's above CW on Steve because he isn't making aggravatingly out of character decisions all of the time and he works very well within the themes of the show.
With me loving him in the context of TFATWS, in later appearances he does have a lot of potential to drop to last pretty easily, but as of now when he just is in that show, I appreciate his character a lot.
4. Red Guardian
I kinda like this character and idk how to feel about it
He doesn't fit Black Widow very much so he is kinda low but I mean, he's just kinda fun. His story about Captain America and the USSR is pretty non-related to the others and rather undeveloped which is frustrating, and he does very little plot significant things. He leads Nat and Yelena to Melina and that's about it. He distracts Taskmaster for a while but he kinda is just getting tossed around until Melina shows up. He isn't very important.
But I do like what I see and do hope we see more of him. They never pretend he's a great person and I do appreciate that he gets called on it constantly. His knuckles having Karl Marx on them kills me and overall he's pretty humorous and fun to watch. He also has a few great moments thematically that I love. When he comforts Yelena after the dinner scene and sings her favorite song as a kid? So heartwarming. When he took Taskmaster's shield when fleeing the Red Room I laughed at his ridiculousness but it lead to a pretty great moment, when he throws the shield through the windshield without hesitation to save Melina. It's a great moment to show how he's letting go of his past and obsessions to be there for his family.
I hope we see more of him, his overall lack of importance and stereotypical behavior kinda holds him back but I see so much potential in him.
3. Agent Carter
As of today she has been in exactly one 30 minute episode, but what I see I really like. Her laughter of surprise when she takes the tesseract is really endearing, her sword and muscles and height make my wlw heart patter, and I do like the difference in her relationship with Steve in this universe, where they both are of incredible capabilities but neither are given any respect for how they were born. We get that in TFA too but I really like that it is a constant theme in this iteration while in TFA it gets dropped a bit after Steve receives the serum.
There is very little of her so I can't really put her higher yet, but given more time she very well may rise up on this list but she had an excellent first showing.
2. Pre-CW Captain America: Steve Rogers
This man is a joy.
He is such an endearing scrappy little guy in the beginning of TFA and I love his commitment to doing the right thing. He still very much acts like a guy who just gained 120 pounds of muscle during that movie and it's endearing. The way he grows into his own skin in TWS is amazing as we see him really step in to what he can accomplish physically as well as his authority and leadership.
His Whedonisms in the first two Avengers films kinda bug me, they treat him like an old man when he isn't. Biologically he's like, early 30's at most here. He grew up as a fighter in Brooklyn then served in the military, he wouldn't care if his teammates swear, but overall it's tolerable.
I LOVE this man's commitment to transparency. He struggles when allies are not transparent and he shows nothing but transparency and I love that that is a constant for him (which is why I separate him from CW on)
Everyone loves this guy and over 90% of criticisms I see for him come after AoU, and that's for good reason, this guy is so loveable.
1. Captain America: Sam Wilson
He's so good, guys
I want to talk about Sam before the suit because he is amazing before it. He runs counseling for veterans, a profession very becoming of a superhero and it speaks to his incredible empathy and compassion that is on full display. I also think the fact that he dedicated 2 years to finding Bucky is not appreciated enough. Sure he was following Steve but he still spent 2 years trying to find Bucky, a person who tried to murder him. Yet he understands it isn't Bucky's fault and tries to help him anyway. I also really like that he is the first to speak out against the Accords. He doesn't wait for Steve or anyone else, he sees red flags and he is out and I really, really love that about him.
Then I love how long it takes for him to choose to become Cap and how much he contemplates it. He has to contemplate the legacy of Steve, if he wants to wear the symbol of this country, the pressures of being a black man as Cap, the legacy that John added to it, the pressures from Bucky and the pressures from Isaiah, and also his own legacy he carved for himself as the Falcon. It's a huge decision with a lot of weight and so many people pressuring him but he takes his time and chooses what is right for him, and I really love that about him. These other characters are all Caps from near the start but he transitions into one after years of knowing him as the Falcon and I love that he doesn't take this decision lightly.
Also as Cap he's just really cool. His decisions to not take the serum as well as try like hell to get Karli to step down speak to his humility and compassion. And while many describe his speech as bland it's still uniquely him. Yes the speech doesn't solve any problems but that isn't what he's doing, he's asking America and the world to get to actually solving them and that is an aspect of him we don't see much since Steve's propaganda days, his direct relation to the public.
Also his suit and wings are just awesome, I argue his action is the most fun to watch out of any of these characters.
Anyway yeah that's the list, I know people won't agree with me so let's try and keep discussion civil, alright?

Hi! May I please have a marauders, MCU and blades of light and shadow match-up? I'm straight, she/her. I'm a ravenclaw and an INFP, I'm introverted but pretty friendly and outgoing once you get to know me. I love reading,my favorite genres are fantasy and poetry. I tend to daydream quite a lot and have a tendency to overthink stuff, I can also be a tad melodramatic at times. People often come to me for advice or to vent! (1/2)
I Ship You With...
Remus Lupin
okay you two would be the cutest and most affectionate couple - also the most blushy one
it wouldn’t help that the others (James and Sirius, especially) would spend the first days teasing the hell out of Moony for finding himself a girlfriend
“oh, he’s all grown up now” “Sirius” “look at our baby, James! can you believe how fast time flies?” “Sirius Black” “shh. let me pretend you’re still a little boy” “SIRIUS”
(they’re obviously incredibly happy for the both of you. you deserve & love each other so much, and you’re a pair of nerds that they love to watch snuggle together by the fire when you think no one else is looking)
you’d exchange books that you love and have the other read them, then discuss them - most of the time it would end up in frenzied conversations until two and a half in the morning where you gush about the characters and the worldbuilding and you sigh dreamily at the romance and the magic of it all, until he slyly reminds you that nothing is imaginary in the magic world
you’d shyly come to him one day and ask if he knows any reliable and truthful books about his... furry little problem (as you’ve learned to call it with the other boys, but really you don’t like that denomination because it implies that Remus is problematic), because you want to learn more about how to deal with it when it arises and how to keep him and everyone around safe, and you mostly trust books to give you this kind of knowledge. he’s deeply touched by your request, and although he tries to keep his composure and give you a list of works that resonated with him (though he doesn’t read too much about werewolves. it’s still difficult to handle the reality of it all), you can tell by his reddened cheeks and his fumbling words that it’s the most thoughtful sign of affection anyone has ever shown towards him
dates in Hogsmeade! what was at first strictly a friendly gathering for the entire group in the period preceding christmas remained a friendly escapade when you got together with Remus... but also the rest of the Marauders learned to give you a little space every time you go down to the village and leave you to frolick, as Sirius abjectly calls it, in the colorfully-lit streets.
you grab butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks (it will invariably be way too sugary for your liking, but seeing Remus’s white, creamy mustache after he dipped his lips in the drink is always worth it), as many sweets as you can carry in Honeydukes (most times it requires more than one bag and a few magic tricks to be able to transport them all), and end the day walking hand in hand in the main streets of the village, snow gently covering your hair and shoulders and engulfing the two of you in a winter wonder. his fingers and yours always tense when your steps bring you closer to the Shrieking Shack; but you press his hand, and when he’s more restless than usual or the full moon approaches you press a few feather-light kisses to his knuckles. you’re here and you’re not going anywhere. for that day and for that night, at least, everything is going to be okay.
Bruce Banner
it takes him more than ages to ask you out. decades. centuries! MILLENIA
and meanwhile absolutely everyone with a pair of eyes can see how dumbstruck he gets whenever you walk in the room, and how his every internal organ stops when you talk to him. in his eyes, you’re a paragon of confidence and coolness (which actually you’re convinced you aren’t, because you’re also a blabbering mess whenever you have to talk to him), and he’s... well, he’s only himself. some kind of STEM nerd. also, on occasion, the Incredible Hulk. no big deal? YES VERY BIG DEAL
but in reality, it is not big deal for you. he seems to forget every so often that he is a doctor and that someone with several PhD’s doesn’t exactly qualify as a STEM nerd in your mind (maybe at least its most powerful form). and even beyond that, he is an incredibly caring soul who’s constantly putting others before him, and it’s mesmerizing and refreshing to just sit on a chair in his lab, reading a novel, with him working on some new solutions, listening to the buzz of the kilns and the lapping of distilled water and peroxides in their testing tubes. you get a sense of peace when you watch him work that you never seem to find anywhere else, and in no one else’s presence.
now obviously Tony (it always has to be Tony) can’t BEAR anymore all this tension between his two best associates (that’s how he calls his friends when he’s not drunk enough), and is practically begging the both of you to make a move or at least talk it out and resolve all of this electricity. which you’d rather die than do, because he’s Tony Stark, he can’t imagine the immensity of the humiliation that would slap you in the face if you attempted to confess your feelings to anyone (especially Bruce!), but you can and you know.
after a few more failed attempts, Tony decides to take the matter in his own hands. nothing in this world will ever get done without his help, he swears!
at first he tries to convince the both of you, separately, to go to a mystery blind date at Luna Park, on Coney Island. you both vigorously decline. Tony has had brillian ideas in the past, but putting yourselves out there to spend a day with a stranger and possibly find love with them? ridiculous. that’s when Tony changes plans: now he’s inviting the both of you (still separately, without mentioning anything jointly) to spend the day with him at the fun fair. it will be fun, he says, just an afternoon eating cotton candy and rifle shooting with his friend. that sounds fishy enough coming from him. it’s a miracle (or maybe a consequence of Tony’s incessant supplications) that you both accept.
when you see Bruce, and Bruce sees you, arrive from both sides of the street to the meeting point you both agreed on with Tony, you start to smell the con-trick. obviously, you shouldn’t have put this past Tony Stark. now you’re both stuck with the other and you have nowhere to look at to distract yourself from his shy, adorable eyes and timid smile. of course.
well. now that you’re here, standing like idiots, not daring to say anything to the other, in front of the entrance of Luna Park, you’d rather make the most of it. chase the butterflies that pierce your throat whenever you catch a glimpse of his excited voice, extinguish the flames that arise through all your body when he puts his hand on the small of your back - then promptly moves it.
the ferris wheel seems to call you. tugging on bruce’s arm, you lead him to the attraction with more enthusiasm than you imagined you would have when the day started. New York City is always a wonder to look at from the heights. Bruce lets out a nervous laugh, but follows you anyway. it’s not like anything is bound to go wrong, right?
but of course. you both were carefree enough to forget that the entire ordeal had been orchestrated by none other than Tony Stark. when your cabin reaches the top of the wheel, and your face lights up at the sight of the sea, Tony’s voice rings out from the speakers at the exact same moment as your cabin comes to an abrupt halt.
“your attention please. due to regrettable circumstances, the ride will be stopping for approximatively thirty minutes. please enjoy the view, whether it is the bay or the person in front of you. later.”
suddenly you want to grab him by the collar and throw his smug little smile out the cabin, headfirst into the Atlantic.
“I’m so sorry,” rings out Bruce’s voice in the tightness of the cabin, his embarrassment true. “I shouldn’t have agreed to this and now I got you in this mess...”
“You didn’t get me in any mess. I agreed too. I guess...” you swallow hard, the faintest of smiles coming to rest on your lips. “I guess we’ll have to make good use of this time, then.”
Tyril
it takes a lot for him to open up to you: patience, efforts, gentle smiles and light touches on his shoulder, good manners, and respect of his past, privacy, and boundaries. a little like approaching a wounded animal in the woods. you have to gain his trust, first. it’s not the easiest task you’ve ever had to tackle, but hey, it can’t be harder than recollecting the evil shadow shards to stop the harmful influence of the murderous, evil, shadow court over your world, right?
(it’s almost harder, actually! you never would have guessed. but that elf has so many walls around his soul, and you have to scale every one of them with your bare hands.)
it’s worth it, though. it’s always worth it to see his smile light up the forest like a thousand fairly lights, and the tenderness of such a beautiful soul, that has lost so much, come alive every time you embrace him.
you see the blue flame of sadness in his eyes when he looks at you, and he sees the image of Kaya, the one he cared for so deeply and he lost so much time ago. it still pains him because he feels like it might be his fault, that he didn’t work hard enough to save her from the evil of the shadow court. his worst fear, although he will never admit it, is that another of the innocent people he loves most will succumb to the darkness and he will watch it unravel, powerless. but you assure him that it will not happen. you are too strong-minded to be corrupted.
he teaches you how to fight, and it’s an unexpected moment of intimacy between the two of you, getting to know each other better than ever, with each other’s strengths and weaknesses
you only ever see him be truly happy when he’s surrounded by the lights of the fae, that you randomly stumble upon in the middle of the deadwood, and that reflect a thousand colors on his beautiful, upturned face. at that precise moment, you can swear you’ve never seen someone more radiant, and someone more in love
when his eyes finally fall onto yours, his look of utter adoration does not disminish, quite the opposite actually; and he holds your gaze as if you were much more of a wonder than anything that’s happening in this kaleidoscopic clearing. your breath hitches in your throat, and a pink fire blossoms in your chest; it is here, in the most desolated of places in the entire country, that you discover love and love discovers you for the first time

I'm sorry
It was a stormy day and you were out in the open in a small city in Norway. It had been devastating for you after your tragic break up with Steve and you had left your job as an Avenger and had also resigned from SHIELD.
You were forced to move away to Norway and was now leading a simple life. You would work at a local book store and would spend your nights in clubs and indulging yourself in alcohol and sex. The only things that would keep you out of Steve's memories. The only time you would think of him was when you would retire to your bed after a long day of work and that's when all those memories would haunt you down. His body on your's, both your bodies tangled together, the moanful nothings, the soft kisses, the touch, everything. And then that one night. The one night you would never want to remember. The night Steve walked in with hatred in his eyes. The night he tried to violate you even after you said no. The insults and every fucking thing.
You were pulled back in the present when you realised that the storm was growing worse and it was raining heavily. You went and took shelter under the shade of a closed cafe. There was no one on the streets and that's when you started to wander why had you even got out on that day? The storm took a worse shape and the shade above you was blown away and you almost screamed and fell down when you felt a pair of strong arms prevent you from falling face flat.
You stumbled a bit and managed to gain your balance and then stood properly and turned back to face your saviour.
Your blood boiled at the sight of his face. His blue, white and red armour fitted his body perfectly, but his shield was missing.
You didn't say a word and started to walk in the opposite direction.
"Y/n?" You heard him call your name. "Let's go. The storm's not safe."
You stood at your tracks, but didn't turn back. His voice still made shivers run down your spine.
"Y/n, please. It's not safe here." He pleaded.
This time you turned back and faced him with your face having an indifferent look. "I thought it was over. I don't think I have any more business left with you."
"Y/n, please it's not the time to argue, it's not safe here and I'm here for your rescue." He looked at you with pleading eyes. His baby blue orbs piercing through you.
"I don't think that I need to be rescued by you, Captain Rogers. Even after..." You were cut by a yelp and Steve's pleading voice.
"Y/n please. I beg you." He had been hit hard on the face by a tree trunk and was now bleeding.
"No way that I'm coming with you." You said sternly.
"Not forme, but for Tony, Bruce, Natasha, Clint? They haven't done wrong to you then why are you punishing them?" Steve asked with teary eyes. He had hit you hard where it actually hurts.
Your face softened a bit and you nodded your head in approval and he said something via his com and soon a quin jet landed Infront of you and both of you boarded.
Tony was waiting for both of you at the entrance with a wide smile. The moment you boarded, he embraced you in a brotherly hug and kisses your temple.
"Finally you agreed to meet your big brother again. I'm not gonna leave you soon this time." He said with a bright face.
"Oh, come on are we invisible or something?" It was Natasha.
"Oh, no you definitely are not invisible darling." You said as you hugged her.
"Do inform us before you leave next time and as per my guess, it's not gonna be anytime soon." Both the women giggled at it.
All this while, Steve was standing at a corner smiling at you but then he started to cough and exited the room, followed by Tony.
Natasha had been chatting with you for a while till she retired to the cockpit to take a look at Clint.
You aimlessly walked towards where Steve and Tony had disappeared. That's when you heard whispers from inside the room.
"What the hell were you planning when you jumped out of the plane in the storm and rain with a chest infection?" It was Tony.
"Tony, I'm not gonna die you know that the serum..." Steve was cut as he started to cough violently.
You cracked the door open a little and peeped in. Steve was coughing blood in a white handkerchief.
"See now you're coughing blood." Tony said in a shout.
"Tony lower, Y/n's just in the next room." Steve managed to say in between his coughs.
"Steve we know you're not gonna die but doing such things will increase your pain. Anyway it is that you're going through a lot even though you don't want to show it, it's still visible on your face." It was now Bruce's kind voice.
Steve was bent down by the coughing fits as he looked up at Bruce and clutched his chest hard in pain a he said between his coughs, "Y-you ..kn-kno--know I love t-the p-p-pain."
His eyes were glassy and he looked at Bruce with pleading eyes.
The sight made tears run down your eyes as you felt your heart ache. Whatever it was but you can never deny the fact that you still loved Steve.
"Steve you really should lay down now." It was Tony's voice this time. But it was soft and kind, so unlike Tony.
"No, I'm fine." Steve protested.
"Sorry but you're not." Tony's voice was stern this time. "Bruce prepare for the treatment."
"Tony, not now please." It was Steve. His voice horse from coughing.
"I don't wanna listen to anything. Anyways you've caused a lot of damage already, we can't afford to wait till we reach the tower." Said Tony as he helped Steve up and made him lay down on the medical table.
Bruce helped Steve open the upper portion of his armour and take off the shirt under it.
Bruce then plugged an IV in Steve's left arm and plugged two wires on both sides of his chest which were connected to a monitor.
Tony then held Steve's head in position as Bruce was pushing a tube into Steve's mouth and another tube into Steve's nose.
You could see Steve's face whiten with pain as folded his fingers into a painfully tight fist. But he made no sound. It was only once that his body jumped up but Tony's grip on him tightened and there was no more movement.
You didn't notice Tony coming out and then he was face to face with you.
"Y/n, you here?" He asked in horror.
"What's this happening Tony? What's happened to Steve? For how long has this..." You were cut off by Tony.
"Y/n, let us just talk outside. Steve needs rest." Was all Tony said and pulled you by the rust to the other room.
"I want an explanation guys." You shouted out in frustration.
Everyone was present there except for Steve. All their heads hung low.
"Y/n, Steve didn't want us to inform you. He has been diagnosed with a chest infection which is not quite cute able and is really painful. Though it will not kill him, but it has made him very weak and probably he'll never be able to fight again like before. And Y/n that's the reason he...." Tony was cut off by you.
"That's the reason he broke up with me. Because he didn't want me to spend my life with a dependent person." Your sentences ended with sobs.
"Yes." It was Tony's voice. Soft and gentle.
"Can I see him?" You looked up at Bruce with hopeful eyes.
"Hmm." Bruce hummed.
_
He was laying there on the table, most possibly asleep. His face was pale and his chest rised and fell painfully. His brows were furrowed in pain.
You went and sat on the chair next to the table. How could you not notice the pain he was going through? You loved him, but you only saw the mask of ruthlessness covering his pained withins.
You placed a hand on his head, stroking his blonde strands from his face.
He slowly and painfully opened his eyes. His baby blue orbs portrayed the intense pain he was going through and was trying to hide from everyone.
He took a deep breath by closing his eyes shut. You could say that breathing was really painful for him.
"Steve!" You sighed in disbelief. "Why would you even think that? I fell in love with the Steve Rogers who would cry for the lives he had taken in a mission, not the Captain America who would go fighting and killing people for the greater good. Steve whatever it may be, I love you and I will never stop loving you how hard I try."
"I'm sorry." He said still keeping his eyes closed. Trying to hide the pain from you which he was going through.
"Steve, it's okay. I'm sorry. I failed to understand the pain you were going through. I couldn't be a good friend. Why didn't you tell me?" You sighed.
"I thought you'd hate me. I'm no more the Captain America I was before. I'm now again the sick kid I used to be before the serum." His voice was painful.
Steve left a shuddering breath. You could see tears run down his eyes.
"Steve, I'm sorry. Please forgive me." You were crying by the time. Your hands on Steve's cheek.
"I'm sorry, Y/n." He whispered as he placed his IV'ed hand over your hand that was resting on his cheek and took you hand to his mouth to place a soft kiss at the back of your hand.
"I love you." Was all he said.
You ruffled his hair and kissed his temple gently as you said, "I love you too. And I'm never gonna leave your side, whatever it may be."
You looked at Steve. He was staring at you with smile on his lips and his puppy like baby blue eyes.
You laughed at his expression and so did he, but he handed up yelping and clutching his chest hard in pain.
You rubbed his chest to ease him and he kept on staring at you.
"Captain Rogers you should better sleep now or else you'll miss all the fun once we reach the tower.
And that was enough for Steve to close his eyes and doze off as you smoothed his hair.
