#I think the wrestler/pokemon dynamic in general is just so different from a tag-team that abandonment and betrayal aren't common at all

I think it's very ironic that despite not being a Jack Perry Girlie (gn) I put the most thought into him in the Pokémon crossover.
Jack wanted to bury the Jungle Boy persona and everything and everyone associated with it, and he succeeded for the most part. But Tropius is still there; the most in-your-face Pokémon that could've ever represented Jurassic Express is still his partner Pokémon. He can change his name, his theme music, or his gimmick all he wants, but a part of Jungle Boy lives on in Tropius. And why not just replace it as his partner Pokémon? He's betrayed so many already, burned so many bridges... What's one more ruined relationship to add to the list?
But it's not that simple. Tropius would never abandon Jack, matter of fact the moment Jack betrayed Hook, Tropius went right in to attack Hook's Scorbunny no hesitation. It's extremely rare for wrestlers to replace their partner Pokémon without a legitimate reason (health and age for the most part); not even Christian Cage has replaced his partner. You have to be the most unforgivable piece of shit to abandon your Pokémon let alone hurt it; that's one thing a wrestler could never come back from in the audience's eyes.
So despite how painful of a reminder its existence is to Jack, at the end of the day Tropius is the only one who stuck by Jack's side through everything. Ain't that a kicker?
#it really does make me think though if even Christian doesn't have the malice to replace his Pokémon whou would???#I think the wrestler/pokemon dynamic in general is just so different from a tag-team that abandonment and betrayal aren't common at all#that ain't just a guy from work you befriended that's essentially an extension of you who is loyal to you no matter what#I'm loving the worldbuilding aspect of this AU#aew x pkmn#jack perry#pokemon#aew
