ngl, when I first read the itoshi brothers backstory, my initial thought was that this type of conflict could only happen between siblings as they both lashed out and hurt each other deeply and I understand both sides of it as well.

On rin's side, rin was excited to see his brother who he hasnt seen in a few years and missed a lot in both football and companionship. But sae's time in spain changed him and he doesnt recognize him, it feels like he changed their shared dream without consulting him.

He admires sae too much to be the best striker, he believes that that title belongs to sae. So rin felt like his brother threw him away and looked down on him when he lost the one-on-one. Rin started questioning their whole relationship like it was false and thinking that he meant nothing to sae, all those good memories are now burnt like trash. Rin's worldview shattered and couldnt stand anything that reminded him of sae, while at the same time, he yearned for his approval.

Sae, on the other hand, went straight to rin after he got back from spain. He didnt go home to put his stuff away before confronting rin, it was that serious for him.

Before I go in depth about his reaction, you gotta remember that sae went to spain when he was around 12/13 years old (7th grade). He was young, dealing with culture shock, language barrier, homesickness, and the feeling that he was not good enough to continue as a striker. No matter how much passion you have for something, sometimes its just not meant to be so you learn to adjust and go into something that is more suited for your skills.

With all of these negative feelings that's been brewing over the past couple of years, sae went to talk to the only person who he thought would be understanding, empathising, and supportive of him and his new goal.

He tried to adjust their shared dream from being number 1 and 2 striker to him being the best midfielder while rin is the best striker so rin would still be onboard. But instead he got the last bit of hope in his heart was crushed when rin rejected him and told him he's not the brother that he remembers. He went through whatever happened in spain and rins words were the final nail to his coffin. Something inside broke, he has nothing to lose anymore, no one to rely on.

So he went with the one-on-one without holding back. And called rins soccer lukewarm cause rin was basically copying his style while rin original way was completely different. This also made sae feel so infuriated with rin cause rin actually has the skills that he lacks to become the best striker. Sae calls him out on this by telling him that he didnt experience the real world and that he should give up if this is how wishes to play cause he knows that rins not gonna survive cause he didnt.

All of this misfortune happening to them around the ages of 16-17ish and 14-15ish. they are both teenagers, so they have a chance to learn and grow from these interactions and eventually mend their relationship. But what are siblings, especially teen siblings, if not petty.

It's kinda annoying (to me) when ppl disregard the fact that they were both hurt.

Yeah, I admit, that sae was harsh, as a brother, after the u20 vs. blue lock game. As a world-renowned player, his judgment, though biased from his hate towards japanese football, is frankly correct. Ego literally reiterated what what sae told rin to the team afterward.

It's officially the second day of your partnership with Sae. After finally waking up your eyes wander around your room. Right, after winning against U-20 Ego and Anri decided that you all can have some rest time. Not to mention they have to renew the building a little to prepare for the Neo Egoist League. Although that's a secret you only know because you're the manager there.

After finally getting yourself out of bed you went to brush your teeth. "Y/N please put your clothes in the washing machine." You nodded and continued with cleaning your face. "Ah and your dad will come home by lunch, he had to go patch some things up at his workplace.

Finally you were alone in your room contemplating what to do. You have tons of hobbies, yes, but the fact that you were on a break from your job made the day seem a little boring.

You took up a book and read for an hour getting really invested in the story. Then you had an idea. So you texted Nagi.

/After 4 minutes/

Nagi: hi Y/N

Y/N:Do you want to hang out today? Or maybe game together?

Nagi: am going out with Reo and Isagi

With a tired expression you sat onto your chair and decided to play alone on your computer. This may seem boring for the majority but it isn't like you had anything better to do.

Soon a little loneliness filled the room. Although  it was fun gaming alone was never the same. You'd much rather play with Nagi even if it's just for half an hour.

Then you remembered. You have a boyfriend! Finally someone who you can annoy, and no, he has no right to ignore you. This is a "committed relationship".

Sae: what do you want?

Y/N: you are just like your brother fr

Y/N: nevermind, and you're being rude.

Y/N: I am officially your girlfriend plssss

Truth be told after you talked about how you're going to proceed in this you told Sae that you didn't want to ruin his reputation or anything so you suggested to keep this a secret, except from Sae's family, your friends and family and his manager. As he needed to know every little detail about the star's life.

Y/N: shut up dumbass 

Sae: you are the dumbass, they are doomed to find out anyway. The media is a walking detective. You can't just keep these kinds of secrets from them.

Y/N: ah whatever you say genius

Sae: so what did you want?

Y/N: how about hanging out? Im bored and have nothing to do.

Sae: I'm packing for Spain and I'm going to renew my passport today, but I guess I can spare you some free time.

Right, keeping up this relationship will be complicated if he goes back to Spain and he can't leave his job, not for the sake of just a fake relationship. 

Sae: although I was thinking of making my stay longer, after all, I supposedly found my "one and only true love" everyone will expect me to stay for a bit longer at least. I can introduce you to my family too.

Y/N: ....do what you want

Y/N: oh frick, I haven't talked to Rin about this- and he's currently ignoring me... Ahh damnit 

Sae: yeah he seems out of it, I must've upset him again well what happens happens.

Y/N: why are you so cruel towards him?

Sae: easy, he isn't worth being a world-class striker yet, if I don't manage to shatter his dreams now, no one will.

Y/N: why does that sound like it makes sense

Sae: don't even think about gossiping about this!

Y/N: mee?? NeVeRrRrRrr

Sae: ... Pick you up in 20, send your address.

Y/N: waiiit my mom’s home!!

Sae: isn't that the point?

Y/N: okay you have a point.. but I always wanted to say that to a boyfriend TvT

Sae arrived as you requested. He texted you  first that he arrived and decided to ring the doorbell. you rushed downstairs and opened the door. His eyes seemed to wander on your outfit. It was very different from the outfits you usually wear, instead of going for a comfortable and cozy look you had a very pretty and casual but also elegant outfit picked out.

“Who is it, Y/N?” Your mom approaches and sees the guy with crimson hair on your doorstep.. “Hi Mrs. L/N” Sae smiled a little awkwardly. You could tell he was a bit nervous. Just when you’d think he doesn't fear or worry about anything. “Oh goodness, are you Rin’s brother?” “Moommm!!” You look at her with a perturbed expression. She can’t just say that.

“Yes, my name is Sae Itoshi. I am your daughter’s boyfriend.” He smirked at you. “I wanted to take her out today.” A moment of pure silence filled the air. Seriously, even the wind was louder on this peaceful day. “Boyfriend..” She muttered quietly. “Since when..” You could tell how your mother went through countless possibilities regarding your newfound boyfriend.

“Ah finally, she’s been cooped up in the house for so long. It’s supposed to be a break she can enjoy.” She gulped down any more questions, and got to the main point as usual. Although she struck you with a hard glance that told you everything that was awaiting you. The countless questions you will have to answer, the whens, wheres and whys.

“Hey! I like sitting in my room and doing my stuff.” “Gaming with no sleep whatsoever will ruin your eyesight. Although I doubt that after all this time it’s perfect anymore.” Well that’s embarrassing. But you are aware that your mom only wants the best for you, and she never actually shouted at you for staying up all night. ‘Hmm I must’ve gotten these obsessions from someone..’ You smirked wondering.

“Sae-kun, please take good care of her. Oh and before she forgets to tell you, her father will be home by lunch so please get her back by then. Do you want to eat with us.” You look at him with a gulp. Your eyes make contact. A sudden urge to turn away appeared but you fought back strongly. “It’s fine, you don’t have to. I know you have to get ready for Spain.” You smile at him. “Actually, if it’s not a problem I’d like to stay.” He looks at your mother gently. “Alright, we’ll be waiting.”

You were in his car. Correction, you were sitting in the passenger seat right next to him. His car smelled like mango with a hint of orange. It gave off Spain and Mediterranean vibes. But that wasn’t the only part that embraced you. Your seat had a special pillow. But in the backseat there was a blanket as well as freshly bought drinks in the cupholder. 

 “Before you ask, I’ve got two reasons. I need these things in here 1) to make it obvious I have someone, and the pillow is also there so you can actually see outside shortie” You glare at him then sigh softly. “You are so mean.” 

“Where are we going?” You asked as he turned onto a busy road. “Arcade.” Your eyes widen. ‘AN ARCADE??’ It was like heaven shone on you. If this were some Shojo anime you are a hundred percent sure your eyes would have stars in them. Light would emit onto your face and make this moment brighten up your entire existence.' Sae glanced at you for a second. Your grin lit up your whole face and your eyes shone excitedly. “I can go somewhere else too of course.” He teased with a smirk. “NO!” You say it a bit too fast. “I mean, an arcade is fine, I like that.” “Thought so.”

 “How come? Do you always bring girls to an arcade on a first date?” First date. Wow, that really sounds real, In that moment your words really struck him. After all, you were right. A boy and a girl, a boyfriend and a girlfriend, going out together does count as a date. “No, and I also don’t date.” “Huh?” “I mean that you are my first girlfriend, or not, and even if I did, I wouldn't bring girls to arcades.” “Then why me?” “You seem different, plus Rin also agreed on the fact that I shouldn’t just go shopping with you.”

 Hold up a second. ‘He asked Rin about my preferences? That means he knows I’m into gaming, hence the arcade. Holy Shit.. If I ever get a boyfriend I hope he can get more amazing then my fake boyfriend. I thought men were all… well…different.’ “Now what? It’s like a million things are swirling around you...” “Nothing.” “Is that really it though?” ‘God this guy is impossible, how does he know nothing could mean more? Did he read a girl code manual? He has a brother not a sister for god’s sake.’ 

You nodded, assuring him that everything was alright when internally you were contemplating your life decisions and also panicking how you’re falling for him more.

they got rid of a lot of things and that affected so much of ch 123-125's storytelling to me...:

i was surprised bocil rin's monologue was put at the beginning. ch 123 had bl11's meeting put before it, so we first had rin's hall scene; and it's so important to me bc his line there set up the rest of the narration for the chapter... the climax of the chapter was framed as the conclusion for rin's line that was left hanging, "just you watch, shitty brother. I will...": in the consequent scenes, bocil rin said he wanted to be "strong and cool just like him," and he wondered "if I can become the world's best striker" just like sae's dream... to me this says a lot about rin's attachment to sae even now, after night snow happened

that line actually set up the storytelling for the rest of the flashback right until the very last line of it but we'll get to it later

this panel was supposed to be highlighted idk I might've missed it

sae's eyes Speak is what I'm trying to say. I just don't sense it throughout the episode n I need to cook myself two packs of indomie over it

they got rid of itoshi parents' parting lines. it's very sad.

especially since itoshi dad told him to take care of his health. might need to check the manga raw for this but that's the line in spirit. that was a departure scene it just felt a little too empty for me...

BUT WHATEVER RIGHT. THEY GOT RID OF RIN'S LINE ABOUT SAE'S WEIGHT LOSS TOO ANYWAY.

getting rid of rin noticing sae's weight loss was such a huge L too that was his nii-chan GIRL . I'm sorry. I just don't sense the same depth of brotherhood from anime saerin than the manga I'm so sorry

like its so awkward too without that bridge 😭😭 the conversation Was supposed to be a little awkward but the flow of the conversation still feels more like... natural... in the manga. sae only brought up about the world competition after rin brought up about his weight loss, like he's averting the conversation even if the next topic isn't necessarily more comfortable...

I was also expecting rin-chan to be more excited to see sae, especially since sae was supposed to arrive a day earlier than scheduled... but they also got rid of that detail........

also sae's eyes remaining static when rin was complaining is so 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 just whatever man

they added a new line too for some reason. and by throwing away sae's line "soccer is a battlefield," at that, that rin copied in i think the 1st selection.

"we're half-baked, you and me both" like........ this is just me but i don't think sae would speak of his defeat outright like that.........

why did they change that omg

it just feels like sae's anger has more depth in the manga like his frustration was conveyed so much better, he said "did you think I'd try to console you?" to rin who's about to give up when sae went home early to make peace with his own decision, he sounded his disappointment on japanese soccer, he drew contrast on how rin saw him and how he saw rin, also "don't get the wrong idea just because you happened to be born after me" is just too good to be discarded..

anyways. the build up for rin's snapping is just... guys cmon.

another line that's not included "so then, all that kindness... was it all just a lie, because I was useful?" this should've tied back into bocil rin's monologue in which he called sae the no. 1 kindest in the world and in extension v u-20 rin's contemplation like it just makes it more cohesive. and it's not included...

Speaking Of.

as I said, rin's line "just you watch, shitty brother. I will..." wasn't just setting up the progress for ch 123. it also ties neatly into the end of the flashback in chapter 125, where rin said "sae itoshi, you ruined my life... so I'm gonna ruin yours."

and! You Guessed It!

they deleted that latter line!!! too!!!!!!!!!!!

it's incomprehensible to me. why would they do that. the chapter's title is literally Ruin. rin's core character is about destructive impulses. What

in conclusion Well. at least manga chapter 123-125 will always be there.

And we had extra scenes from additional time too rin-chan sounds very cute there's not one single thought in his head ☺️ he's like a nephew to me

First date headcanons

Characters: Sae Itoshi, Rin Itoshi, Nagi Seishiro, Reo Mikage, Chigiri Hyoma, Kunigami Rensuke and Isagi Yoichi

Sae Itoshi

• You have to be very special to catch his eye. He doesn't go just for anyone, but you, you're definitely special

• And once he confirms his feelings for you he confidently asks you out. Bonus points if you get flustered a bit, he thinks it's cute that he has that effect on you.

• Once you guys agree to go on a date this boy immediately rearranges his schedule around the date

• He tried suggesting that you two go on your first date in Spain or France. But you politely shut down his idea down, saying that he doesn't need to go overboard for your first date

• So you guys settle for a nice restaurant in Japan, he was a little bummed that he had to stay here but it's with you so he will manage

• Sae is a true gentleman, opens the door for you, pulls you out a chair, compliments you and pays for the meal

• If someone happens to see you two outside on a date tho, rumours will start immediately. But he couldn't give two shits tbh

• He would enjoy listening to your interests, Sae loves watching that spark light up in your eyes he knows the feeling of happiness that rushes through you when you talk about your interests.

• If they do happen to ask him about you on some press conferences he would just say: "Yes I'm currently dating someone, I don't get how is that related to my career."

• After your date, he would drive/walk you home and kiss you on your forehead. And when he comes back home he would have to fight the urge of buying some tickets for a foreign country to take you on your next date.

Rin Itoshi

• Like his brother, Rin seems very cold and calculated. So you have to be super interesting to catch his fancy

• Rin is introverted, so he wouldn't like to go out to some fancy restaurant. So he would take you out to the movies! He enjoys horror films so I feel like he would pick out a really good one

• After movies you guys would get ice cream and walk around, talking about anything and everything

• He would complain about all the lukewarm people he met in blue lock. And he would offer an ear to your complaints.

• He is so cute I swear, Rin is trying so hard to hide the smile that is stubbornly trying to show on his face. He doesn't want to blow his "cool guy" persona yet.

• He would walk you home and you would walk you home, but you would have to be one to initiate something. He wants to hug you, but the poor boy is just super embarrassed.

• When you hug him, or kiss him on the cheek. You can definitely see the red color creeping on his ears. When you two finally part your ways. Rin is letting that simle show, just this time it's much bigger and the pink dusting his cheeks is much more visible. But when he gets back home he puts on his cold facade

• He is not into PDA, so on your next date I feel like you two would walk around with your pinkies intertwined

Nagi Seishiro

• This one is a given, Nagi would totally take you out on an arcade date! He could effortlessly impress you, plus who doesn't love arcades?

• You two would play few intense rounds of air hockey. After the fifth time that you lost he let you win one round, just to see you jump around in victory

• After that you guys played some co op games, Mario Bros, Bubble Bobble and other classic

• Your small rivalry will continue as you guys start playing vs games like Street Fighter, Tekken and Mortal Kombat if you main Kitana you are immediately attractive idc again he will let you win just to see that cute smile on your face

• Please if you have the willpower make him play Taiko or DDR. At first he would be hesitant, because he thinks that it would require so much effort but if you bat your eyelashes he might just fall for your trap

• What can he say it's hard to resist when it comes to you. Surprisingly he is really good at Taiko, which of course earned a compliment from you "You should consider becoming a drummer." please just imagine drummer!Nagi what a concept

• Nagi saw you eyeing one of the toys in the claw machine and he just had to jump at the opportunity. So here you were with two milkshakes in your hands cheering Nagi on

• It took him a while but he got it in the end! He knows that you will treasure it, and the huge smile on your face was totally worth it

• You two walk to your house hand in hand and talk about all the games that you played you leave him with a kiss on the cheek and a promise to beat him fair and square next time

Reo Mikage

• This guy goes all out, like it's unreal how much effort he put in. The second you agreed to go out on a date with him he started planning everything out to the smallest detail

• A limo was waiting outside for you, I mean he did tell you to wear something nice, but you didn't expect this much

• He bought you flowers, he went as far as renting out the whole restaurant. Which is one of the most expensive in town.

• At first you felt kinda awkward, I mean isn't he going a bit too far? He probably spent a lot of money on this. But he reassured you that you deserve to be spoiled

• After some time you get much more comfortable, and you stop caring. You don't feel uncomfortable and out of place because Reo is there, and that's the only thing that matters

• After a very nice dinner made by the best cook in the country. You guys went on top of a tall building and just talked your hearts out, admiring the beautiful navy sky

• The limo took you guys back to your place and you were standing on your doorstep hoping that Reo would do something and he did!

• He kissed you! And you had to hold in a scream of happiness, after he left you ran into your room to let out that happiness by screaming into your pillow

Chigiri Hyoma

• Okay, you two would go on a study date! He feels like that's the best option, it's lowkey and he wouldn't feel as stressed to actually ask you out

• But just because the date seems casual, it doesn't mean he didn't carefully chose the location you two would go to. He checked all the local cafés and what food and drinks they serve

• He would choose the most beautiful café, a beautiful slow melody is bouncing around the room. The whole café was decorated with wood and plants, making it look like a whimsical forest

• You two ordered tea and got two Strawberry Shortcakes, Chigiri and you opened your books, you guys talked a bit about the harder subjects you have to get to eventually

• But as the conversation started to flow, you two kinda forgot about the pile of books you had on the table

• You talked about your favorite writers, and other hobbies you share, the tea was great and so was the Shortcake

• After a long talk, it was time to part your ways. Chigiri walked you home, and you guys just couldn't stop talking about everything and anything

• You didn't want to go and neither did he, so he immediately asked you out on a another date, and of course you were so excited

• When he left he just couldn't stop thinking about you, so he called you and the two of you talked for so long.

• Both of you couldn't wait to see each other again

Kunigami Rensuke

• The two of you would go to an amusement park! Eating delicious, colourful cotton candy as you guys talked about all the ride you want to go on

• Kunigami would win so many games, you would have so many stuffed animals by the end of it

• Like his hands were full and you were carrying two stuffed bears each settled into your hands

• You guys would ride the fastest, highest roller coasters. But if you are afraid of heights, that's okay too. There is a lot of other fun rides and games you can try

• You would go on the teacups and you would ride a carousel giggling like little children throughout all of it

• Kunigami suggested that you should visit the Haunted mansion, everything was fine at first, but then a second jump scare happened and then out of reflex Kunigami hit the poor worker in the head

• When the sun started to fall asleep and the sky splashed with orange gradients. The two of you went to a farriers wheel

• Walking home still laughing about the aftermath of the punch Kunigami accidentally landed and your hands full with the stuffed prizes, he asked you out on a next date

Isagi Yoichi

• Isagi took you out on a picnic! At first he was kinda hesitant to ask you out. He can get really insecure at times and you are just so perfect he thought you were way out of his league

• When you said yes, he was the happiest he ever felt it's the same feeling he gets when he scores a goal

• In an attempt to surprise Isagi, you decided to make some sandwiches

• Isagi had the same idea tho, so when you two met up, both of you were holding baskets full of food earning an angelic laugh from Isagi

• The field looked beautiful, it was filled with flowers and some kids were running around. The two of you sat on a blanket right under a blossoming cherry tree

• Munching on some sandwiches, you talked about anything and everything

• After you stuffed your faces with food, Isagi suggested that you two play football. And you eagerly agreed

• Sure, maybe you aren't the best football player. But seeing the spark that is dancing in his eyes is totally worth running around trying to kick a ball

• To your surprise, you played football for hours laughing and playfully bickering

• And everything was fine until the rain began to fall. Quickly starting to pack your things up, Isagi looked for the shelter

• The two of you ran to safety, never dropping your smiles, your hair and clothes totally wet by now

• Your house was closer so that's where you went. You begged Isagi to stay until the rain stopped. And he oh was he embarrassed, he's never been in a girl's room and now here he is. Changing into some clothes you had laying around while you were making tea for the both of you

• After some time passed, Isagi finally got comfortable and you laughed the whole situation off

• When the rain stopped, it was time for him to go even though you didn't want him to

• He thanked you for the stuff you lent him. Promising to return them on the next date
