Hi! There are two 🕯on this list, so either one you'd prefer to answer, please.

🕯️how do you think engaging with each other through tumblr, twitter, comments, kudos, creates healthy fandom experiences? How do you deal with that if you're not a social person/experience social anxiety?

Ahhh. Listen. It is so hard. I got way more asks today than I expected from this list, and if I were a stranger looking at my blog, I'd think like, wow, they're really popular, they already have so many fandom friends and admirers, they are cool and know how to talk to people, and like all of that is false. I'm just some guy.

When I first joined fandom, I got so intimidated so easily by the relationships other people seemed to already have, and I still do sometimes! It's a little bit different now, because I've made some friends, but I still get those feelings of like, idk why this person would even want to talk to me, they probably already have all the friends they need, I'll probably be really weird and embarrass myself, etc etc.

Unfortunately on the internet, like in real life, the only way to connect with people is to put yourself out there. By writing fic, I think it's an easy access point for others to engage, because they know exactly what the author is thinking about today (patrochilles in my case or whatever), but it's still intimidating as hell. And sometimes two people, through no faults of their own, simply do not click.

On the other hand, it can be super fun! Answering these asks today was fun! Thank you! And if you poke an author, often fic will fall out! If you give them insane AU ideas, sometimes they write it! Great things can happen when you approach people. Or nothing. Sometimes nothing happens.

The key to staying healthy in fandom, I think, is not to think of your fandom friends in transactional ways, aka "I reblogged their fic so they HAVE to reblog mine or they're a bad person" or other thoughts along this line. Would it be nice? Sure. But once you start keeping score, your friendship is already taking damage. There are a million reasons why people do or don't do things, and if they are a friend, don't you want to give them the benefit of the doubt?

This also applies also for comparing yourself to your fandom friends. Once you start comparing stats or whatever, you've already muddied that friendship. It's not a competition. Envy happens and it's normal, but it's very easy for those feelings to warp into something like "I can't believe people like THAT fic when blah blah blah." Not only are those feelings damaging to your friendship, they also will never make you feel better about yourself. It's better to let envy pass through you to the best of your ability and figure out how to be happy for other people (or just not care).

Well, I shall put this under the cut because there is A LOT!

I don't think height bothers Hook so much? There are men on the ship that seem taller/bigger than him and he doesn't seem intimidated. I think he CAN get annoyed at times? In scenarios where all villains can interact and stuff, I like to think he puts higher heels on his shoes to seem taller xD

Main verse Hook has... NO IDEA how internet and technology works, put something like that in front of him and he'd think its haunted or something idk. But modern verse Hook? Ehhh, he gets the rough gist of it, but i still think he'd be a bloody old man on his phone, probably with a classic nokia with the classic snake game being the only other thing you can do on it aside from text and make calls xD

Sexuality is easy, Bisexual, leaning strongly towards men.

Weather? A good breeze on a warm day, easy for sailing, good for relaxing, no one wants hot still weather.

Sleeping schedule, PFT. WHO NEEDS THAT? xD Honestly, he doesn't really have one? He's up at all hours usually, sleeping at night should be a thing but he sleeps when he can and feels the need to. Nightmares keep him up and at least if he slept in the day he could SEE his opponent.

Music.. Hmm... Modern Hook would probably like 70s/80s type music maybe? I've not thought of this much tbh, but he would DEFO not be into rap, punk, funk or 'modern' tunes in either verse. Classic Hook is into those happy jigs and tunes they played in inns in Scotland and Ireland. Folk songs and sea shanties. Celtic bangers xD

He... Cannot cook. Thats it. He probably can toast coconut and cook fish? But all the bones would still be on and stuff.

Movie night, he'd pick a romance, something he needs the tissues for. Or some over the top drama.

Pillow war? Like a pillow fight? xD Idk man, he's probably not really played a full game of that before, but I'd say he'd WACK someone round the face easily with arms like those.

Sleeping position, he tends to curl up in the fetal position, all snuggled up and cocooned in blankets and pillows.

For comfort he always calls for Smee, who always seems to know what to do. (Unless he is in a strong ship in which he'd go to his S/O if they've developed enough)

He really enjoys just... The sound of the sea. Or maybe the most simple, the feel of wet sand between his toes when the tide comes ashore.

He doesn't really like it when people touch him, unless he's initiated or offered something, NO TOUCHY.

Literally anything can bring Hook to tears. He's an emotional person. Sadness, frustration, etc etc.

Pet peeve... UMMM, when people move his 'organised mess? xD'

Hook... hm... Doesn't really take THAT much care of himself? not mentally anyway? Physically, appearances can be everything, he's one of the most well groomed people on the ship, he ALWAYS cares for his hair, before anything else, the rest of him could be stinking from sailing for weeks but his hair would be PERFECT. Mentally? UH, not so much. He also just shrugs off many wounds and cuts and hopes for the best xD

The fact that he likes traditional romance novels? Maybe that could surprise people? Or his simple, sweet pleasures, like collecting seashells, or drawing and writing in his journals?

Hook doesn't really have family, perhaps the closest thing is his crew and Smee... But he wouldn't call them a family?

Bad habits is basically just leaving things where he's dropped them, he doesn't clean up after himself, his papers, journals etc are all in piles and nothing is organised per-say. He also chews his hook from time to time and tugs on his tash.

Perfect vacation for Hook would be away from Peter Pan and Neverland, plundering somewhere and taking treasure and just relaxing on a beach with a nice drink.

Hook has a good sense of direction, even if he would get lost he can easily make his way back to where he started.

He has seen... Many strange things in his time, talking trees, singing plants... The list is endless.

Hook doesn't accept advice to be honest? He can take advice for one thing but end up twisting it into another and thinking he came up with it xD

He doesn't swear... THAT often? He's a gentleman after all xD But he can swear when he's in the bedroom~ Or when he's REALLY angry

He likes to know how pretty he looks, so yes, he does like being in pictures xD

He's bad at being around children? He's also bad at staying on land for long amount of time without complaining xD

Morning schedule, get up, work on the charts, check navigation and the wind direction and to see if they're on course, do an inspection, smoke a few cigarettes and basically eat when Smee brings him something xD

Many, he has scars covering most his body, bite marks from the croc, slash marks from Pan's dagger, the missing hand, obviously, he has whip scars on his back, bullet wound(s) etc etc.

He gets disgusted by bad singing/music? He can also have times where he finds some foods or most foods disgusting and he can't eat it, reminds him of bad things.

Ren/Akira

You'd expect the struggles with him to be different from if you were older, and they are, but they are also the same.

He has a hard time actually letting his guard down, and while you won't have additional struggles with that due to your age, being younger doesn't actively help.

Afterall how can he burden you with anything when you're the younger one?

He's far too busy teasing you for being "cute" or whatever to tell you about his trauma

As with most things he's very good at shifting focus to things he can do. As such you gotta be persistent with him to finally get through.

He doesn't want to rely on you, he'd much rather you do the relying on him. This is especially true here, where you're younger than he is.

You've gotta remind him that age notwithstanding, you're equals. If he wants you to trust him, he has to be willing to trust you.

You'll get through to him eventually. Then the only problem is him teasing you and, well, you knew who you signed up for a relationship with, anyway.

8/10, bit difficult at first, be prepared for teasing throughout

Man's caretaker instinct is already through the roof- especially with those he genuinely cares for- and now you've added you being younger than him to the mix?

The difference can be as minimal as possible and he'll still go, "I'm older, let me do this."

It's never patronizing, he 100% understands and respects that you're his equal, he just likes taking care of others, and this is more of an excuse to than anything else.

Obviously like all of them he's not the most talkative person in the world but he may take every opportunity to gush about you, if he can.

Whereas he's nervous about having an older partner, he's all set for a younger one. The first year IT members have given him plenty practice being a senpai and he's taking those lessons into this relationship

Honestly a little difficult to get him to understand that as his s/o you don't need to be treated differently because you're younger than him.

He will eventually chill out and reach the balance necessary for the relationship but the first weeks-to-months are an ongoing adjustment.

Genuinely sweet, 9/10, get those reminders in his head faster and he's lovely.

Hamuko/Minako

Haha, cute, she thinks you're adorable

Genuinely doesn't care if her partner is older or younger, but she does usually go for people older than her.

Thus this is actually pretty unique territory. Sure the age difference can be minimal, but that doesn't mean she isn't going to milk being the older one for all its worth.

Unfortunate side effect is that she'll feel a sense of responsibility, no matter how small the difference. And since she's already the responsible one in so many situations, it's pretty obvious she isn't as relaxed around you as she should be.

Gotta get through to her that she doesn't have to be "the mature one" just bc she's x-amount older than you.

This isn't SEES, she doesn't have to be "the responsible leader" she can just be your significant other

The only other struggle will be getting her to stop giving you horrible pet names, unless you enjoy them. In which case return the favor. Be warned she doesn't flustered easily, though.

Okay jokes aside, does he actually care that you're younger than him? No. Is he going to tease you about it? Ehhh, maybe?

He will when it's easy, or just when you least expect it, but generally, no.

He's not overly concerned with you being younger than him. If anything he probably forgets more often than not.

It's only when you being younger is in prime joking territory that he comments on it at all.

This is not to say it doesn't affect anything.

He actually- in spite of all his claims not to care- has come to enjoy being relyed on. (Afterall, his responsibilities have lead him to genuine bonds for the first time) So any amount of "I should be taking care of you" feelings you being younger than him gives, are a positive.

Mostly he just uses it as an excuse to poke at you for being "cute"

8/10. Teasing but in deadpan, probably for the added effect

ehhh this isnt finished but its been like a few decades since i posted any writing so here’s a wip swordvan snippet that I’m not sure how to continue (ideas greatly appreciated🙏🙏🙏🙏)

sniper is antisocial. demo’s pissed off about it

Demo looks back and Sniper sits at one of the patio tables with a facial expression of nothing, nursing a beer, and by this point even Scout’s left probably to go terrorize someone else and it’s just them.

Demo doesn’t think he’s ever been alone with Sniper before. To be honest, he doesn’t really think about Sniper much at all, and he feels like that’s sort of intentional, isn’t it? He moves in groups to blend in with groups and he spends the rest of his time in his van alone doing whatever he does in his van alone.

He’s maybe entering that stage of drunk where everything seems like a good idea, but he knows this is an opportunity he probably isn’t gonna get again, or at least for a long time. He clears his throat and Sniper stands, apologizing, turning around, and—alright then—and Demo says: “Wait. Where are you going?”

“T’my van,” Sniper blurts, getting to work picking up the many beer bottles scattered around the table. “It’s okay. I’m sorry. I’ll be outta your hair in—“

“What, doing something?”

Sniper obviously does not know how to respond to this.

“You know you can stay,” Demo says. “I don’t mind.”

Just looks at him, eyes like dinner plates under his sunglasses (it's like nine o' clock at night, by the way, and he still has sunglasses on). Sniper opens his mouth, and then closes it, and then opens it. Like a fish. In another time Demo might say something to this effect, but now seems wrong.

"If you're going to ask 'are you sure'," Demo drawls, "the answer is yes."

Demo can see another question trying to wrestle its way out of Sniper's throat but finally he comes over and plunks down in the seat next to him, sighing. To be honest the sighing's getting a wee bit obnoxious, but Demo was born and raised by the rule of if it ain't gonna contribute don't say anything, so he just takes a breath (and he burps) and he says: "So I don't see ye 'round much."

"Uh-huh."

"I guess you like t'keep to yourself?"

"Yeah."

“Why’s that?”

“I dunno.”

The conversational ability of a piece of wet toast, somebody said once.

“Do ye actually want to talk?”

"I… dunno."

"Why haven't you left yet?"

Sniper keeps alternating between looking at his hands, pressing into his palm with his thumb, and staring into the sky. He keeps half-lifting his arms to his mouth. Tavish guesses he's resisting the urge to bite his nails off.

Oh, and guess what he says next. Really.

"I dunno."

"What do ye know?"

"What?"

"Nothing." Demo sniffles and looks at him and then realizes he's probably like an cat and eye contact makes him squeamish and that's mean and he shouldn't be thinking it.

Isn't there some way to get him to say more than two words at a time? Tavish's supposed to be good at icebreaking, dammit. He'd think he doesn't care but at this point he knows he does. He's what Engie likes to call 'easily challenged'.
