I think it might be promoting it to people who haven’t watched it before? or not watched it much/recently? I’m not really sure but I’ve never watched the show, seen screencaps etc, and based on other searches I’ve made, Netflix can guess fairly accurately that it’s something I’d be interested in, but I haven’t watched it.
INSTANT I logged in after the new season went live, I had the trailer at the top; it was first on the recommended for me; and also on the trending and popular lists.
Inversely, I HAVE watched the first two seasons of Stranger things, but didn’t even know that had come out until a friend of mine asked me if I’d seen it yet a week after it was available so...
Anecdotal, sample size of one, but I think they’re trying to advertise harder to NEW viewers, and are assuming the older viewers will find it on their own or word of mouth their way to it after a week or two.
