So we all know by now that Dazai is comfortable enough around Chuuya to show nervousness/worry.
Tumblr media
Enough times for Chuuya to pick up on that pattern. The pattern, may I remind you, that doesn't have evident correlation to either nervousness or worry to most people. One that can even be interpreted as misplaced given the situation.
Which means that Dazai has done this in front of Chuuya so often, that Chuuya at first was hella confused, before he finally made a connection between when and why it happens. And still remembered that connection after four years of separation. Which gets us to my point:
What if this isn't the only emotion Dazai displays weirdly?
What if he has multiple unconventional patterns he displays for sadness, frustration, content, or disgust? The times he really feels them, and they become too strong for him to just deal with normally? What if these are the only times he's actually being genuine with his emotions?
And Chuuya is the only one who is familiar with them all?
Dazai would be jumping rope and Chuuya would be like, "quit sulking, let's get icecream"
Dazai hanging upside down on the couch and Chuuya going, "It's okay, mackerel. You can cry."
Dazai actually crying, full on heart-wrenching sobs, and Chuuya unironically going, "What, good news?"
It's just... comforting, for one person in Dazai's life to read him like a book. Everyone else would look at him like he's crazy, displaying wrong emotions/behaviors at the wrong time, but Chuuya knows that it's just how he processes feeling properly, and thus he's the only one Dazai can count on to put things into context and understand, which makes him display them even more openly.
Because Chuuya never shamed him for his quirks, as much as Dazai never did his.

So far of reading your writing, I really love it! :)) May I request Kunikida, Dazai and Ranpo having an younger member of the agency being a sort of subordinate of them but acts a lot like a younger sibling to them? She's just really pure hearted and soft and really looks up to them so she likes helping them out a lot. Just some fluff because my boys deserve all love and affection
Awww thank you so much for the compliment!! This request is so cute, and yes, all the boys deserve all the love and affection that is possible cause they go through too much 😭 Anon requested this as platonic, and reader is gender neutral. Also, I wasn’t too sure what the age should be, so I went with Kyoka’s age, which is 14. Hope you enjoy!
TW: Mentions of suicide in Dazai’s part, but nothing too heavy or specific is mentioned. It does get kinda sad though, but it has a happy ending. Also, slight spoiler for season 2/Dark Era Arc, but nothing too major
Young ADA Member Acting like a Younger Sibling to: Kunikida, Dazai, and Ranpo
Kunikida
Okay, so when you first started at the office, people (specifically Naomi and Junichiro) were nervous when you got paired up with Kunikida. And Kunikida isn’t a bad man by any means, but he can be very, very, very strict
And how well do rules stick with kids/younger people? Exactly. It just sounded like a bomb waiting to explode
And you look so soft and so sweet! What if he made you cry?!
Which Naomi threatened to draw blood if he did
Even Kunikida himself was nervous. This was not written in his notebook to be a glorified babysitter!
But the President insisted, putting faith into you that you’ll be a great addition to the team and that he can lead you on the right path and not into trouble like some people he won’t mention (Dazai)
That was all that he needed to hear, and he took those words very serious. He won’t let the President down, and he wasn’t going to let you down either. You guys were gonna give it your all, whether you were ready to or not
But, to everyone’s surprise (really his) you both adapted well. You treated him with respect, said yes sir, no sir, tidied up both of your desks (which were right next to each other), you even tried to abide by his stern schedule without any complaints
You were a great help on missions too, you didn’t recklessly throw yourself into danger, and you made sure to look out for citizens to keep them safe and out of danger
And that wasn’t it, oh no
You made sure to bring him snacks (atleast the ones that he said were ideal), made sure that he was keeping hydrated and not tensed up all the time (working in this office will do that to you), and to make his workload as light as possible
After seeing him go off on Dazai for the 1000th time and getting wound up over a case that wasn’t getting any leads, you saw how stressed and frustrated he was getting. Mumbling to himself about how could he “replace the President if he couldn’t do this right”So you tapped on your shoulder, with one goal in mind: To comfort him
When you tapped his shoulder, he turned and yelled, “WHAT NOW?!”, right into your face
Time stood still as everyone froze, shocked. Even Kunikida himself after he saw it was you.
He felt immediately guilty, about to apologize for losing his cool when you began speaking
“Mr. Kunikida, please don’t stress too much. It’s not good for your heart! And don’t let this one thing stop you! You’re a great leader, and someone that I look up to. I wouldn’t be where I was at now without you! So please don’t doubt yourself, because we don’t, especially me! You’re my role model, Mr. Kunikida. Please, don’t ever forget that.”
After that, it was like a flip switched in him
“(Y/N), come here and walk very slowly.”
You did so with no hesitation, but you were curious
“Your shoe is untied. Here, let me tie it for you. It wouldn’t be ideal if you get injured because of a lousy shoelace. It wouldn’t be ideal if you got injured at all.”
“(Y/N), we have lunch scheduled at exactly 12:15. They’re also serving your favorite today, so we can’t be late, understand?”
“Yes sir!”, you said with a smile
“(Y/N), let’s go. It’s getting dark and if you still want to see that dreaded light show, we have to leave in 20 seconds to make it! I don’t want to see you sad or hear you complain if we miss it.”
“Coming sir! Just finishing up some work for tomorrow-“
“I already have it written in my notebook on when it will be done, so we can go.”
“Here you go Mr. Kunikida, I already typed up and printed out the reports for later on!”
“Thanks kid. And you don’t have to keep calling me Mister okay? Kunikida is fine.”
Dead silent in the office
KUNIKIDA is letting someone way younger than him just call him KUNIKIDA? Not MR.KUNIKIDA???
Everyone is, realistically, shook
But as time went on, they understood why
He came to look after you as his own
The entire ADA would have never thought the day would come (it wasn’t even in the notebook!) where he would care for a kid like his little sibling but here it was, right in front of their faces
But they weren’t complaining at all. You seemed to make his day a little brighter, and he wasn’t as uptight as much (but don’t be mistaken he was still Kunikida, just at an 8 instead of a whole 10)
After that mini pep talk that fateful day, he made it his duty to be a good role model for you. To always set a good example, both in and out the office.
He wouldn’t fail you, and he would be damned if he let anything happen to you
You’re a good kid, and you only deserve the best. And he was gonna be the best role model (and brother) for you
Dazai
Aw man, he was..conflicted to say the least
Listen, it’s not like he hates kids or teens, but it’s just extra responsibilities to watch over them. And he already slacks off enough to begin with, so is this really a good idea sticking a 14 year-old with him?
And lowkey, the way that he treated Akutagawa is still heavy on his mind, and he doesn’t want a repeat
But the President made it so, and Kunikida was ready to attack if he even thought about denying the order. Plus, it could be like another Atsushi around (another person to pass work off too) so that was a win!
And another person to annoy Kunikida too
You looked so pure and innocent. Are you sure that you’re in the right place?
He genuinely thought you were a lost kid when you came up to him the first time lmao
Geez, you even sound sweet too! How has this world not damage or corrupt you yet?
“Hi Mr. Dazai! It’s nice to meet you. I hope that we can make a great team, and that I’m here to help if you need anything!”
“Nice to meet you too. And now that you mention it, these reports have been giving me a hard time...”
Not gonna lie, he did take advantage of your help. You offered, so why not? He thought you were gonna get sick of it soon and start complaining, but nope
You took his reports and did it with no hesitation every time. And you always handed it to him with a bright smile. On top of that, you always cleaned up his area and behind him, you did any leftover work that he ignored forgot to do so that he wouldn’t get yelled at, and tried to bring him small snacks and even packed a whole lunch for him when you noticed that he didn’t eat a lot
He even started to feel pretty bad and he was getting disapproving looks from his fellow detectives (even Kenji, and he never frowns)
So he started to take back and *GASP* actually do his work?!
But you stopped him, and told him that he should, “Take it easy! You work hard enough as it is saving the city. It’s no problem doing these reports, and I want to help you in any way I can, Mr. Dazai.”
“(Y/N), don’t worry, I can do them. And remember it’s just Dazai, calling me Mister makes me feel old like Kunikida-”
“I HEARD THAT!”
And it seemed like you really cared for his wellbeing, especially when you had to accompany him on missions
Well, it just so happen that while you were going with Atsushi to find Dazai to start a mission, you both found him
Hanging upside down, sinking to the bottom of the lake
You rushed into the water immediately, pulling him out and onto the ground while Atsushi was just standing there in disbelief
Atsushi is so done with his shit
“Dazai, can you hear me?! Dazai?! Atsushi, I gotta give him CPR I don’t think he’s-”
“(Y/N) don’t worry he’s okay! This isn’t his first time he’s done this, and probably not the last.”
“W-what do you mean?”
Oh
Oh
You didn’t know about Dazai’s suicide methods? Did he not tell you or talk about it in front of you? Atsushi would have been somewhat proud of him if this whole situation didn’t happen, but here we are
“Geez, guess this method isn’t for me. It seems like someone is bound to always inter- hm, (Y/N)? What are doing out of the office? What’s wrong? Why are you crying?”
You hugged his chest tightly, not caring that he was practically soaked down to the bone
“Please stop, Dazai! Why are you doing this? Why are you trying to leave everyone?! Why are you trying to leave ME?!”
That got his attention
“Your life is important, Dazai, too important to try and end it on your own terms! You’re special to me, I look up to you. You’re smart, funny, and you help everyone out in your own special way. If you weren’t here anymore, everyone would be so lost...I would be so lost..,I-I-I wouldn’t know what to do-”
“(Y/N)-”
You looked up, eyes red and puffy with tears rolling down your cheeks, but filled with determination
“I promise you that I will make sure you know how much you matter to everyone. I swear on my life that I will.”
Okay, so you know how you were helpful/adorable before? On a scale of 1-10, you were definitely at an 11. But Dazai felt like you were at a 20
At first, he thought that you weren’t being genuine. You were just a young kid who didn’t know any better and was just trying to do your job, in sickeningly, oversweet way. I mean, who would really care about him with his horrid past? He was convinced that you were just naïve, and that the world would swallow you whole when it gets the chance. And it made him feel pity for you
But you proved him wrong
You weren’t just some ignorant child. You were in this agency working alongside him for a reason. And you reminded him of that everyday when he saw you working, handling the cases, taking actions on missions, all the while being kindhearted through and through
You especially went out of way for him, and it was both a warm and scary feeling. People that he ended up caring for shared an undeserving fate, and he blamed himself for it constantly. So he tried to keep his distance, for your safety. You still had a life to live, and he didn’t want to ruin that for you.
But it was kinda hard to when you work together, and with you constantly being under his wing trying to show him the good in life and the difference that he made, he couldn’t help but admit it
You proved him wrong, and not a lot of people can say that.
You went out of your way to make sure that everyone was okay, mentally and physically. He didn’t want to admit it, but you made the office (and his life) a little bit more bearable when you were around. You’re a good kid. And it was so fun to rope you and sometimes Atsushi into his schemes lmao y’all can be so gullible sometimes
Unfortunately, he still planned to leave this world, but he tried not to talk about it in front of or around you, and his number of attempts did dwindle, so that was a good thing
“Hey (Y/N), let’s grab something to eat, I would be a terrible person if I let my dear little baby assistant go hungry.”
“Dazai, if you’re hungry, you can just say that. I don’t mind finishing this later. It’s good to eat when you need to, and your health is #1 priority!”
He couldn’t take back his past and the way he abused Akutagawa, but he could certainly make sure that he doesn’t make the same mistakes
And that would start with being a decent role model for you. He won’t exactly be a “model citizen”, but he will always do the right thing. He’s turned over a new leaf by turning to the light, and while his methods aren’t always legal, he won’t stray from it again
And he won’t let you stray either
Ranpo
He was not a happy camper at all, let me tell you
Hello, do you know who he is?? He’s the greatest detective in the world! Why would the President think he need a sidekick?! He saw you working under him as an insult. Were they trying to say that he wasn’t good enough on his own?!
You weren’t exactly welcome with open arms, but that was okay! You were a complete stranger to him, but you were hoping that would change overtime
And Fukuzawa offered to praise him if he took you in so he stopped pouting momentarily
“Hi Mr. Ranpo! I’ve heard great things about you, and I hope that we can get along!”
“Well, of course you’ve heard great things about me, I’m the greatest detective in the world! It would be a crime if you didn’t hear about me.”
It was a rocky start between you guys to say the least. Not only was he lazy with the work he already had (I mean, it was too easy for him), but you were always willing to complete it (which you did, when you realized that maybe he was too tired or had other important things to worry about)
Who are you trying to fool, this man was just being lazy
But you either didn’t realize it or you just purposely ignored it to get it done for the sake of the agency. Bless your pure heart for putting up with that poutyface
Despite that, you handled everything with positivity and pride. When discussing cases (even though he would solve it in under a minute), you already had the reports ready to go, took notes for him, and you even tidied up his desk (which really consisted of his snack pile)
And you were starting to grow on him. You were like his mini cheerleader/#1 fan. His ego was going through the roof
On missions, it was a piece of cake for him, duh! With his ability, Super Deduction, it was always easy. And you were in the background, in awe with everything going on. He wanted to say he was surprised, but he would be lying. It would be a downright lie if you said you weren’t impressed with his ability and with him in general.
You repeatedly praised him, and he always gave you the same response:
“World’s greatest detective, remember?”
The one thing that would cause him to see you in a new light, was when he got lost. You remembered Kunikida mentioning that he wasn’t the best at navigating the train system
He really said that Ranpo didn’t even know how to read the schedule, and that someone had to always walk with him to make sure he was going to the right places.
He just wanted to go back to the office to his beloved snacks, when this happened. He wasn’t stupid by any means, but it was a waste to use his ability on something trivial as this-
“Mr. Ranpo! Wait for me!”
Just as he knew, you were running late meeting him
“Hey (Y/N) what took you so long?! My beloved snacks are calling for me back at the agency, and I need to answer-”
“Don’t worry, I packed you some!”
“Yeah, I already knew that since that’s the reason you’re late. And before you ask, you look out of breath, the receipt is still crumpled in your hand, and I see some crumbs from something you already ate on your clothes.”
Huh. Was it that obvious? You guess so...
Or maybe Ranpo really is the world’s greatest detective!
“I know, I know. I’m the best, no need to tell-”‘
“Mr. Ranpo, you deserve all the praise that you get. You’re someone I want to be like when I get older.”
“Hm?”, there you go praising him again, but you were crying
“I feel like people don’t take you seriously like they should, Just because you don't fight like the others doesn’t mean that you’re not a valuable asset to the group! And I wish people saw you like how I do! You’re my inspiration to do my best everyday. And I know that I can’t be the best detective, but I want to be as strong and intelligent and brave just like you so I can save people and be a motivating hero like you!”
He’s silent, and your words are sinking in. You’re wiping away your tears, the start of an apology on the tip of your tongue, when he suddenly put his hand on top of your head
He’s staring right at you, glasses on and green eyes open for you to see
“You’re already on your way there (Y/N). That I know. And I’m never wrong with my deductions, let alone when using my ability.”
The flood gates have OPENED
You know that he doesn’t technically have an ability, but that doesn’t stop you from accepting his words and finding them as the truth. If Ranpo said it, he meant it. He was the world’s greatest detective, and you didn’t have any doubt in him
“Now let’s go, it’s going to start raining and I don’t want us to be hungry and drenched. Plus, Kunikida is totally freaking out and thinking that we’re both lost and in some criminal’s hideout right now.”
After that fateful day, the dynamic shifted between you two. Instead of you just doing the work, he pushed it off on someone else so he could explain to you about the different cases he had to solve, and other detective matters
Really he was just bragging and having you both slack off, but it didn’t matter you guys were still having fun
It even got to a point where he shared some snacks with you from his sacred snack pile
BOY WAS THAT THE TALK OF THE OFFICE
All in all, while he knew that you couldn’t be the greatest detective (that was his title after all), he would help you get to your goal regardless. Not that you would need a lot of extra help, he was watching over you after all, and you already have a good head on your shoulders along with the heart of a hero
Every Sherlock needs a Watson, and he deducted that it wasn’t too bad having you by his side

Requesting a scenario where the rest of the ADA witnesses what they believe is a horrible and heartbreaking breakup between Dazai and his s/o, but in reality he’s helping them rehearse their lines for a play they’re performing in next week
[Great idea! I honestly had so much fun writing this one, so thanks for requesting it!]
What’s The Line? (Osamu Dazai)
Tumblr media
Atsushi hadn’t really been able to sleep at night, tossing turning, trying to get comfortable. But his mind just refused to shut up.  When the first rays of morning started to filter in through his window, he sighed in resignation and threw off the covers from his body. It was futile, he thought.
So he freshened up, put on his clothes and decided to make his way to the ADA’s office. It was very early, but it would be better than lounging around in his rooms and moping.
He reached the building, got his day’s paperwork from the archive room and made his way to the offices. However, before he could open the door, he heard voices coming from the inside. Atsushi stopped.
The voices sounded angry, and were yelling at each other back and forth. A little straining of his ears and he realized that the voices belonged to you and Dazai.
“I’m so tired of your shit!” you screamed.
“As if you’re any easier to deal with!” Dazai yelled back.
Atsushi took a step back. He had never heard Dazai raise his voice before, especially not at you. It struck a cold jab of fear in his heart. Something must really be wrong if he’s yelling at her.
Not wanting to eavesdrop on something personal, he had just turned back when he crashed into someone.
“Yosano-san?”
She shushed him with a finger on her lips, and quietly got closer to the door. Atsushi frowned.
“I really don’t think – “
“Oh, hush, you.” She rolled her eyes, “Just stay quiet and listen.”
On the other side of the door, your voice was dripping with anger and resentment, “Do you have any idea how much I’ve put up with? All the lies, and the tricks, and the deception!? I’m not even sure I know who you really are!”
“You would, if you cared about anything other than your own damn self!”
By now, a lot of the other members had shown up beside Atsushi, including Naomi, Jun’ichiro, Kenji, and even Ranpo. Surprisingly enough though, Ranpo didn’t look too bothered by the vicious argument on the other side of the door. He just munched from his packet of crisps, smiling in a way that was typical to him, as if he knew something the others didn’t.
“Oh, so now I’m the selfish one?” you hissed, “I don’t want to hurt you, Dazai. Don’t make me bring up stuff we both want to stay buried.”
Dazai laughed sarcastically. When he spoke, his voice was low and filled with venom, “We both know, (y/n), that if I want to, I can shatter the very fibre of your being in only a handful of words.”
Atsushi’s eyes widened. He was feeling sick to his stomach and wanted nothing more than to turn tail and get out of there. But he sighed in resignation. It hadn’t been his intention to eavesdrop, but there was no way the others would let him leave now. So he stayed.
Your voice had started cracking now and you sounded right on the verge of tears, “I’ve…I’ve tried so hard to make this work, Dazai! I really have.”
“Yeah?” he scoffed, “Well maybe you should’ve tried harder.”
There was a collective gasp from everyone on the other side of the door. They hadn’t expected the fight between the two of you to get this bad. Atsushi’s heart felt like it was stuck in his throat, not allowing him to breathe. He looked up to the both of you so much, and never wanted either of you to go through this. This can’t be happening.
Just then, Kunikida turned up, right on the dot, his ideal in one hand. He frowned when he saw everyone huddled outside the door and trying to listen in. “Do i even want to know what’s going on?”
“Kunikida-san!” It was Naomi who spoke, “Dazai-san and (y/n) are having a terrible fight in there! Please do something!”
That caught him off-guard, “Wha – “
“They’re on the verge of breaking up! Stop them!”
“How can I – “
Right then, the office door flew open and out walked Dazai, closely followed by you. There was pin-drop silence as the two of you stared at everyone gathered outside the door.
“Um, hey guys.” You said unsurely, “What are you doing here?”
Atsushi blinked and his eyes travelled downwards and onto your hand that was laced with Dazai’s. He raised an eyebrow.
“…So, you guys are not breaking up?” Yosano asked unsurely.
“Breaking up?” Dazai asked, his tone incredulous. He wrapped an arm around your waist and pulled you closer, kissing your cheek. You blushed.
“Why would we be breaking up?”
“But…but then what about the argument and the yelling we heard?” said Naomi, sounding utterly baffled.
“Ohh, that.” You laughed, “That was just me rehearsing for a play I’ve got later today.”
You could practically see the question marks floating around everyone’s head, except for Ranpo. Of course he would know what was going on.
“What?” Jun’ichiro asked.
“Yeah, I’ve got a play this evening and Dazai and I were here all night because I was having trouble remembering my lines.” You explained, “He was helping me rehearse.”
You were very confused when everybody simultaneously burst into exclamations of relief, even Kunikida.
Dazai smirked, “What? Did you guys really think I was breaking up with my sweetheart?”
Atsushi scratched the back of his head, “Well, yeah. It didn’t sound fake at all, and we were pretty devastated, to be honest.”
“That’s great! That means I’m finally ready to be on stage!” you say excitedly, but then you look at everyone’s deadpan expressions. You smile sheepishly, “Sorry for worrying you guys.”
Kunikida rolled his eyes, but the expression of relief on his face was unmistakeable. Soon enough, he had ushered everyone into the office and shouted at them to get to work. You sighed, tired from all night of rehearsing. Then a thought entered your mind. You turned towards Dazai.
“Hey, Dazai? You wouldn’t happen to want to actually break up with me, would you?”
Dazai tilted your face upwards and gave you a small kiss on the lips, “I would be the biggest idiot in the world if I ever break up with you.”

Enemy lines- part 2 Chuuya x reader
Tumblr media
Part 2 commissioned for the lovely @moonlittxger!
If you would like a comission ill have my guidelines posted soon :)
“Wait,” you huffed in between breaths, clearly out of energy as you struggled to keep up with your fellow mafia-friends, “Why are we doing this alliance again?” you asked, staggering to a stop as your newly made friend Junichiro stopped as well.
He spared you a glance, clearly annoyed with your repetitive and bothersome questions. Hey, it really wasn’t your fault. You were still trying to adapt to this new lifestyle after six months, there were parts of this world that were still… hard to get used to if you will.
Your special abilities , on the one hand, were the most difficult thing to get used to. Your wings paired with your slight regenerative ability threw you off your moral-balance, one routine that could never be the same ever again.
“Because weirdly enough there’s been another god damn threat in the city again,” he rolled his eyes before shoving his hands in his pockets as he carefully eyed the city square the both of you were in, “That’s gotta be like the third time this month I swear,” he mumbled, eyes twitching.
Your lips twitched upwards in a smile, clearly amused at your fellow friend’s irritation. Even though you hadn’t met any of them personally, you were quite eager and a tad nervous to meet the members of the Armed Detective Agency; so very veered in the eyes of the public of Yokohoma.
While the Port-Mafia guarded the city in the depths of the nighttime, the Armed detective agency was more tasked with crime in the daylight.
“What the fuck are you two doing standing around like idiots?” at the sudden insult, both you and Junichiro turned around to see Chuuya flanked with members of the Mafia.
Scowling, you tried to ignore the heavy pounding that was occurring in your heart every time you saw Chuuya. Over the last three months, the both of you had become closer, weirdly enough though you did still throw insults at each other.
“What do you mean ‘standing around’? We’ve been waiting for everyone else to show up but you guys are literally so late.” You defended yourself, crossing your arms over your chest in protest to his accusing remarks.
Junichiro agreed, and shouted a few insults to the already hot-tempered ginger which honestly was probably not a good choice on his part.
After all, having two ginger hot-headed fighters go for each other's necks would only end in pure chaos, and most likely war.
But before the two could actually start throwing hands, you saw a group- Port-Mafia, alongside Mori-san who was leading said group. When they arrived, you averted your gaze from Mori’s cold, calculating gaze. He never failed to make you nervous.
The two orange-haired boys finally shut the hell up, much to your relief and the three of you went to go stand alongside other members of the mafia.
Once you made your way to stand beside some unassuming fighter, you sighed and gazed into the distance of the park, hoping for any sign that the armed detective agency was on their way.
You nimbly checked your watch, seeing that they were just a few minutes late so far. When you raised your head, you were surprised to see a small group of interesting-looking characters walk towards you.
When they finally reached a few metres in front of your group, they stopped in their tracks. You were surprised, they only had three people on their side compared to the big group on yours.
Well…they certainly had style. The leader was tall, with a stern expression as his metallic blue eyes were fixed on Mori’s figure. He had long silver hair that ended just above his shoulders and donned a green yukata under what seemed to be a black haori.
The person flanked to his left was another tall man, with golden hair caught into a ponytail and silver-rimmed glasses that he pushed up his nose. He was wearing a beige vest with pants in the same colour. He didn’t look at all impressed with the situation which was a reaction that you couldn’t really argue with.
Then, on what was on the leader’s right was another tall man. He had curly and messy brown hair that fell over his forehead delicately. His hands were shoved in the pockets of his trench coat and it seemed like he to was wearing a vest underneath that jacket? Although you couldn’t really tell. He looked at your group with a smirk, as if they were all beneath him.
So, you thought, this must be the one that Chuuya liked to rant about daily.  He caught your stare almost immediately and sent you a smirk, to which your eyes widened. You felt your cheeks heat up immediately and you dropped your gaze to the ground.
Mori opened his mouth, no doubt to let out a greeting- or in his case, something purely scalding so that he may get on the armed detective agency’s nerves.
But before he could say anything, a loud explosion suddenly went off.
You were startled, for starters, as you felt the hot wind blow across your face as suddenly the park was filled with smoke and debris. You no doubt would’ve been blown away if it wasn’t for the sudden pull of the back of your shirt. You yelped as you were yanked back.
Once the smoke cleared, it seemed like everyone was scattered as you heard an explosion go off some four hundred metres down the street that led into the city.
You gingerly opened your eyes, turning around to catch Chuuya’s eyes as he stared at the mess in front of you.
“The enemy is here,” he simply retorted as he narrowed his eyes, scanning the area for danger.
“What?” you said panicking, eyes wide, “Like here? Like now?”
“Yes, like here like now!” he hissed and you felt your own face pull into a scowl as you shook his grip off of you.
“I wouldn’t yell at the pretty lady, Chuuya, after all, it’s a fair question”
Both of you turned your head to the right only to see the brunet from before.
Chuuya groaned, tilting his head back in frustration, “Shitty Dazai…” he muttered, before looking at the man whose name you now knew as Dazai, “Stay away from her, ya hear?!”
Before Dazai could say something back, something, or better yet, someone interrupted the both of you.
“Hmm, it seems like my plan did not go according to what I had in mind,”
The three of you snapped your head forwards to see a hooded figure, with his hands in his pockets.
Almost at the same time, the three of you armed yourselves. Dazai took his hands out of his pockets while both you and Chuuya activated your abilities.
You felt the familiar rush go up your spine as you felt the extension of your butterfly wings sprout into existence.
“Hm. Butterfly wings?” Dazai remarked, russet eyes taking in the structure of your wings. You felt almost naked under his pointed stare, a gaze that seemed to strip away the layers of your existence almost immediately.
“A rare ability like this would do wonderfully at the ADA, miss,” he said, eyes twinkling with mischief as his eyes as he reached forwards for both of your hands.
“Uhm no thanks,” you half-heartedly said, pulling your hands away as your eyes were already on Chuuya’s figure who was fuming already at Dazai’s comment.
“Hm, I see,” Dazai narrowed his eyes as he followed your gaze before you were interrupted once more.
“You’re right, a rare ability like that would be simply…fantastic to have.” You tensed at the hooded figure’s words. Chuuya moved protectively in front of you, “It’s simply something I ought to have in my possession,” the enemy cocked his head, “You understand, don’t you? The meaning of wanting, (Y/N)”
You couldn’t help the shiver that ran through your body at the use of your name.
“Shut the fuck up already!” Chuuya growled before sprinting forward and activating his gravity so that he could land a gravity-heavy induced kick to the man.
To all of your surprise, the kick seemed to dissipate through the man and you watched as Chuuya go literally through the enemy.
“What the hell?” you exclaimed, exchanging glances with Dazai.
Suddenly, the man appeared between you and Dazai and the both of you jumped away.
“We don’t have to fight, it's simple really,” he stated before turning to you, “You have something I need and I have something you need,”
“I purely doubt it,” you snorted, using your wings to propel you off the ground so that you could land a punch on the man. However, your figure passed through him like smoke and you gasped as you roughly hit the ground.
On instinct, your wings curled around your figure, and through hazy cerulean wings, you could see the enemy leap towards you.
Thankfully, Chuuya managed to use his gravity to get to you in time so that he could pull you away, you yelped as an explosion went off, propelling the both of you backwards.
You winced, opening one eye as you felt the hard, structured body of Chuuya behind you. You rolled off of him and the both of you got up. You could feel the small burns on your body heal ever so slowly and you were thankful for your ability. You really did not like pain.
You flapped your wings, effectively getting rid of the extra smoke that sprung up.
You then rushed towards the man, flapping your wings aggressively in the air so that dirt from the ground could arise, when the debris filled the air, you smirked for it meant that his view was temporarily obstructed. You raised your fist and manage to slam it into his gut, pausing for a moment before he suddenly grabbed your arm and pulled it above so that you flew in the air.
You scowled as you used your wings to propel against the momentum and flipped backwards.
Both of you stared at each other a moment before he opened his mouth, “26.4 by 32.8 by 1.2”
You felt your blood freeze. Your eyes widened and your stance went slack. No one could have known about those coordinates…not unless they were from the same world-
“All you have to do it accept and you can go home, to your other home,”
“Like hell she’s-“Chuuya angrily started to retort but you cut him off easily.
“I accept.”
“What?!” Chuuya spun towards you and you flinched at his stare.
“No fucking way in hell are you going with that man (Y/N),” he hissed, taking a step towards you and you took a step back in response.
“You don’t understand Chuuya!” you spat back, shaking your head, “My home isn’t even here, if this is the only way I can go.. then I hav- I mean I..”
“I just want to go home…” you trailed off bitterly, clenching your fists at your sides hard enough to draw blood. You had gotten used to the sensation of drawing your own blood in order to ground yourself and maintain your calm demeanour.
“No,” he shook his head before reaching for your hand, “You can’t leave me (Y/N) I won’t let you get away from me again.” Your heart ached at his words and if this was a better place in a better time you would’ve pulled him in for a kiss.
“Not to interrupt, but I think we should finish defeating this man before we can take his answers”
Dazai’s cool response snapped the both of you out of your little bubble. You exchanged glances before turning back to the enemy.
You would get your answers one way or another, with Chuuya at your side.

[Bungou Stray Dogs] 55 Minutes Part 3
BACK TO TRANSLATIONS
Disclaimer: [ The translation pace is solely dependent on the lone translator’s availability. Also, this translation was made for myself who is still studying the Japanese language, so the translation might not be up to par to some people’s tastes. Again, I translate pretty liberally.  ]
Notes: Also this is a very short portion, but the next one should take longer to translate - but its a hefty 30 pages. Lol. So, anyway...
Tumblr media
Atsushi was walking on the cobbled street alone.
After completing preparations at the hotel, and after a quick meeting about future plans, Kunikida instructed Atsushi to go and meet the Captain. Kunikida will come afterwards.
For whatever reason, someone had made a procedure error in the accomodation and Tanizaki and his sister, Naomi, were given the same room.
"This is no good at all," Kunikida then ran to correct the procedure error with his face changing colors.
Atsushi looked around restlessly at his surroundings. Everything that caught his eyes seemed new. The stucco houses with a slate blowing roof, the stone gargoyle statues standing still while gazing at the sky, the white libraries with elaborate eaves were not part of the land he was born and raised. Only in books, would he be able to see the scenery of London from old photographs.
I really seem to be in a new country, Atsushi thought. He had no experience of overseas travel, so that was why the ship was, in a sense, his first foreign experience.
Atsushi almost felt like he was in a fairy tale.
In a backalley, there is a fairy, there is a king and queen in a castle, and there's Jack the Ripper sharpening his knife with a creepy smile in the dark underground. He breathed in, the fantastical vision spreading even to his lungs. Then when Atsushi looked down at the scenery, he heard a loud voice.
"Run away, follow me!"
Quietly, a loud and noisy voice reached Atsushi's ears. Busy adults were rushing through. What are they fussing about? Atsushi stretched his neck.
"Call the police squad!" "Did you see the face?!" "Quiet about the stolen goods!" Atsushi responded swiftly to the word "stolen."
There was an uproar in the southeat. Something was stolen.
--- The request was to catch a theif on the island.
Kunikida's speech came back to him.
Atsushi ran almost reflexively.
The noise seemed to be taking place in the cargo area near the harbor. It was an area that carried in luggage, different from the passage Atsushi and the others entered from.
There are warehouses made of bricks. Several men in blue uniforms who seemed to be officials on the island were running away in the stone wall alleys of London.
"Hey, you. Have you seen a tall man with black hair around here?"
Suddenly, one of the officials spoke to him, Atsushi widened his eyes in alarm.
"Eh...ah, no, I didn't see anyone..." He finally answered.
"If you see them, please report to the police department!" With that said, the official ran.
"U-UHM!" Atsushi called out to the officer who's back was retreating. "What happened? Was anything stolen?"
"There was an illegal entry!" The staff cried before running away from the alley and becoming invisible.
"Illegal entry?" Atsushi tried to imagine a face in his head. There was an illegal entry in this island...What did that mean? People who did not have permission to enter. But what in the world for?
"Atsushi-kun, hey, Atsushi-kun!"
For a moment, Atsushi looked around his surroundings. The uproar was far away, and there was no one around the vicinity.
"Atsushi-kun. Ufufufu. What are you doing in a place like that? I'm over here, over here!"
This voice...
Atsushi looked for the source of the voice, and suddenly kept an eye on a street corner.
There was an zinc garbage can. It was painted in an inconspicuous gray so as not to stand out in the English city landscape.
The garbage can must have been near the height of Atsushi's waist. It also was sealed by a tin cover.
The garbage can was shaking and rattling. Bewildered, Atsushi approached it.  Placing a hand on the lid, he dared to open it.
"Baa!" "Uwaa!"
Surprised, Atsushi fell on his butt while still holding onto the lid.
Dazai was within the garbage can.
Disheveled hair and a sand-colored coat. White bandages wrapped around a neck. An unreadable face laced with a smile.
"How unusual for us to meet at a place like this?"
"W-..... What are you doing in there, Dazai-san!" Atsushi shouted. Kunikida had explained that Dazai was supposed to have been at the gathering place.
...Could it be...
"Hey, you. Have you seen a tall man with black hair around here?"
"Dazai-san, are you....the illegal entrant?"
"That's great, Atsushi-kun. Just like a detective's reasoning. It's so pleasing to have one's subordinate grow up so fast."
Dazai laughs happily. As for Atsushi, he was not able to understand half of anything Dazai was talking about.
Dazai is his senior and the first person to admit him into the detective agency. To Atsushi, he is a senior, a superior, and a benefactor who had saved him. He is all of those things, but...
"Ahh, I was so successful with entering, but I was found out by the staff on the way, so I hid in the garbage can to escape the trouble. Since I didn't have time to take out any of the trash, my body is so smelly, right now. However, there's a wonderful feeling to being a part of meaningless trash, I wonder if I should live here.
No other words came out from Atsushi other than "Ha......"
The ADA can never read Dazai's actions. At work, Dazai often collaborated with Kunikida and the others, and every time he has a stomachache. Even so, the cases involving Dazai are always solved in an ideal way for some reason. And each and every time Atsushi watches him, wondering how in the world Dazai is going to tie up the next case.
"But Dazai-san, even if you do not have trouble entering the island illegally, shouldn't you have just ridden the same boat as us?"
"There are three answers to that question," Dazai wagged his finger. "First of all, I wanted to see what goes behind the scenes around here since this is a strange island. Secondly, Kunikida has recently got too used to my behavior and his reactions have become too normal, so I am aiming to surprise him! And lastly, it's still in the midst of progress, but there's another order we've received regarding the method of smuggling inside this island."
"Ha....Another order...is Dazai-san's work different from the thief extermination?"
"The thief extermination is only a part of the danger occuring on this island," Dazai's said with his smile suddenly disappearing.
Atsushi felt the surrounding temperature drop to several degrees just from that.
"A....danger..." Atsushi somehow squeezed out of his throat.
"That's right. ........Please report to me if you see a man with a camera hanging from his neck, he wears a black suit and carries an attache case. Oh, and you better not try to capture them, they're a very dangerous person. If you make one wrong move, you could blow up Yokohama."
"Huh...?"
Suddenly, Atsushi felt dizzy and furrowed his brows. Yokohama might blow up? "What does that mean....?"
"I'm still in the middle of investigating further details. But, for now, you guys will have to concentrate on exterminating the thieves because if that's not done, then I cannot continue from here. Also, would you please take the lid for a moment?" Dazai's smile returned as he pointed at the lid at Atsushi's feet. It's the lid that belonged to the garbage can that Dazai was in. Atsushi handed it over, puzzled.
"Thank you," Dazai said when he received it. "Oh, I almost forgot to mention, I knew before arriving here that there would be Port Mafia members on the island. Up until now, I didn't know who, but you better be careful."
"The Port Mafia...?"
Atsushi frowned. He had no good memories of the Port Mafia. It is an unlawful organization that takes residence in Yokohama. And it is tied with the Detective Agency of whom has had conflict with many times.
"Don't make such a scary face," Dazai said with a gentle voice. "They will rarely appear in places with many people. Even if something does happen, no one can catch up to Atsushi-kun fleeing!" Dazai smiled kindly. "Now then, I will pray for your success in work!"
Dazai then re-entered the garbage can and closed the lid on himself. With a light voice, the trash can jumped and rolled sideways all the way to the back of the alley and down a slope.
"Bon voyage!!!"
Leaving with an unnecessarily bright voice, Dazai rolled away.
Rolling down the hilly slope, the trash can vanished in due time.
Later, Atsushi was left alone standing still.
"Got used to that person...huh....Kunikida-san is amazing..."

#I'd like for everyone to imagine weird Dazai quirks and how they relate to his true feelings#maybe even take moments from the manga that would be so cool#imagine the out of pocket things he does had just been him processing his feelings this entire time??#and there was no Chuuya to tell us#I mean seeing Dazai roll around with any ADA member would have made that a “haha quirky Dazai moment”#Instead of. Oh. He's *actually* worried.
I want to highlight these tags from @unicornpopcorn14 in particular because I adore them and they reminded me of Stormbringer, and how Chuuya and Dazai worked out their system of "punishments" that allowed Chuuya to express frustration with Dazai without condemning Dazai.
Chuuya is like a barometer for Dazai's intentions; from the moment Chuuya was introduced to us as the audience, he was deciphering Dazai's intentions where they might have been opaque. It speaks so much to their relationship and provides insight into the reality that as much as Dazai is a mastermind archetype, he's also a person capable of being understood. And I think that's sometimes what saves him from himself.
What if he has multiple weird patterns he displays for sadness, frustration, content, or disgust? The times he really feels them, and they become too strong for him to just deal with normally? What if these are the only times he's actually being genuine with his emotions?
And Chuuya is the only one who is actually familiar with them all?
Because Chuuya never shamed him for his weird quirks, as much as Dazai never did his.
