professional help, c4. The waltz of the Snowflakes.
Tumblr media
simon riley x original character.
trigger warnings: violence, sexual assault, mentions of rape, trauma, sexual themes, swearing, use of alcohol and drugs.
song to listen to when reading this: Harden my heart, Quarterflash.
abstract: he can get fucked, and his captain too. it's Jude if you haven't noticed. I have nothing more to add really, he's an ass and I'm not getting paid enough to deal with this shit, see ya. also, forgive me for the swearing it's a real problem I know!!
Well. That didn't exactly go to plan. Simon Whatever, what the fuck is your problem? She called a friend while driving home. 'Salvo, io gli volevo mettere le mani addosso, stu scemu…’ She was going over the speed limit, holding her phone with one hand. ‘Una merda Salvo, mi hanno mandato via come una cretina, son andata, ho parlato, mi ha detto non si puoi fare guagliù, chi cazz si pe me dicr chell c’agg fa oh!’
Now, to all my readers, I will translate. Jude speaks dialect when she's mad, bare with her. Her voice usually drooped an octave when she spoke it to accommodate the guttural and rough sounds of her language. Swear words that would make your racist grandad cry. She was calling Salvatore, she met him in 2021, he was currently deployed in South Korea. She told him she wanted to hit him, she said, they sent me away without hearing me out, they said what you're suggesting can't be done. 'Scusa, cosa hai proposto tu?' She loved Salvo, he was so understanding, he could read her mind. It was refreshing, when she found out he was from the same country as her. Speaking a bit of Italian with him was a break from all the English, the accents and the words she didn't know how to pronounce. 'Cosa ho detto, ho proposto che lo seguissero, anche grazie al cazzo vorrei dire… ( I refuse to translate all the swearing, Jude.) Questi vogliono aspettare e non fare nulla, però mi fanno perdere tempo con ste cazz'e riunioni!' (This means, 'I told them to follow him, obviously. They don't want to do anything, they want to wait and see, and yet they make me go out of my way for these fucking meetings.')
Salvo tried to reassure her that it wasn't really her problem, to which she replied, Arash was her patient. He asked her about the captain, she commented he stood there, watched her argue with his guard dog Lieutenant without saying a word. Coward, she called him. Who's the Lieutenant, he then asked. She told him, maybe she messed up the name a bit, but he seemed to recognise him. 'No, veramente?' He asked. 'Il Fantasma'. That made sense, you know, the mask an all. He told her he was quite famous for his mask and his story, which he didn't fully know. Lots of trauma I think, you could work with him. She parked her car in front of the dance school and got her bag. 'Non me ne fott, possono fare quello che vogliono, non sono io che ci rimetto. Lui nu strunz, fammi dire…' She explained she didn't care anymore and that they could do whatever they wanted. He was a dick, that's what she added, probably referring to the famous Lieutenant.
The girls could sense she wasn't having the best day and didn't want to mess with her. They stood quiet and avoided their usual chatting. They did warm up, barre and some center, she sent them off early. 'Miss Alba, we're gonna start rehearsals soon? For the Nutcracker.' It was Luna that spoke. She almost forgot. 'Yes girls next time.' Shit.
The Waltz of the Snowflakes. That's what she was gonna have to teach them. The owner of the school was crazy, the piece was way too difficult for her class. She didn't have time or strength to explain the piece was not meant for girls that young, she would have to simplify it. She put on a video on her laptop, trying to remember the best she could the original piece. She stripped of her leg warmers and her black shrug. Her mind kept wandering off the meeting with Price, not letting her concentrate. She was mad. Not because she didn’t get her way, they were the ones dying in the Middle East, not her. But because it was fucking humiliating. As a woman as well, you know. Maybe she made a mistake, going in there looking all pretty. But again, why would she sacrifice herself just to earn some basic respect? After she failed her pirouettes for the third time, she decided it was time to go home. She would talk to Arash and, if needed, follow him on her own.
notes: Since this is a shorter chapter (I've been incredibly busy with uni and work), here are some details about Jude:
height: 5’2’’ - eye colour: green - hair colour: blonde
traits: mole on her cheek, slightly crooked nose. mole on her right butt cheek, scar on her knee. at least 30 smaller moles all over her body. small boobie queen.
if she was a colour: dark blue
if she was an animal: killer whale
if she was a place: a forest
if she was a food: spicy pho - motto: for the plot
favourite position in bed: on top/doggy
favourite part of her body: eyebrows, hips
what she looks for in boys: loyalty, someone stable, good manners, honesty.
tattoos: big flower on her back, her grandmas house on ribcage with ivy on it, lavander flower between breasts, dagger on right arm, wine glass and whisky sour ingredients. nike (goddess of victory) statue on left arm, goth looking stars and white ferrari doodle. oui, non written on both knees. heaven written on ankle made with stick and poke needle.
loves to talk about: time, space, her dog, humanity, world wars, greek mythology, vegan recipes, life after death.
do not talk about: her family, weight, fire, not being the best in school and at work.
she would like to: try hotpot, paint pottery, start a podcast, go on more hikes, visit thailand, get another dog, attend a wedding.
she will never: have kids, get married, go to australia, go skiing again after she fell, have plastic surgery, drink beer.
if you’d like to know more stuff about her let me know!!
notes: Salvatore, Salvo for short, is a common southern Italy male name. Salvatore means 'the saviour', Salvo means 'safe'. Full translation of the speech: 'Salvo, I wanted to hit him, this fucker. It went to shit Salvo, they sent me away like I was stupid, I went there I told them what I thought, he said we can't do that, who the hell are you to tell me what I can and cannot do?' 'Sorry, what did you say to them?' 'I told them to follow him, obviously. They don't want to do anything, they want to wait and see, and yet they make me go out of my way for these fucking meetings.'
'No, veramente? Il Fantasma' means 'no, seriously? The Ghost.'
notes: if you want to hear what the dialect sounds like you can hear it in the tv series 'Gomorra' on YouTube.

Hello! I made myself sad thinking about GerryMichael and Les Mis!
Spell of "fuck you, you're getting your blorbos tragedied!" If this gets traction I shall give myself psychic damage and write a ficlet on it.
Basically, what if the song A Little Fall of Rain in a very very recently post-Sannikov.
Elaborating about it under Read More.
They haven't told each other anything yet. Been pinning for years, but Gerry's too focused on the whole Leitner thing so Michael stays quiet. Gerry, in turn, thinks Michael probably isn't interested in "Gertrude's rough agent" and would prefer someone less "weird/dangerous". (They are both plain stupid, your honour <3)
Sannikov happens. But Gerry gets called by Gertrude as backup and arrives about a day later and waits for Gertrude to call him
He doesn't go into the island, but there's the whole ruckus of the Ritual crumbling, so he takes it as a sign to go and help out.
When he gets there everything is quiet. Snow falls again and the island rumbles very gently. Gertrude has left already, probably took an alternate route to avoid being followed. In the rubble is Michael, being torn apart and meshed from the inside. But the ritual is over, Gerry cannot see what Michael is seeing as his identity gets mangled in his subconscious.
Gerry crouches to try and help Michael up, to no avail. So he just sits with him on the snow and listens to him rambling, and mutters back, trying to make those last minutes any less painful, even if it's just a soothing illusion for both their sakes.
Cue "Little Fall of Rain"
He stays until Michael stops breathing, stops spasming. Keeps a few minutes of silence. But eventually walks away.
The ship is waiting, and with time he's forced himself to learn to let go when people die. He never got to say anything, so the connection was not mutual (he thinks, at least), and thus it means Michael was just talking under the delirium of death, and his words were probably not meant as a confession. It hurts, but Gerry prefers to think Michael didn't confess back, that only he (Gerry) did it as a last ditch effort and it was null as soon as it was over.

found an interesting translation thing in today's les mis letters chapter. i've been listening to the donougher translation bc i haven't read that one through yet and i heard "bristling and farouche" and thought, huh, i know that word! and hapgood says "bristling and wild" so i suppose that makes sense? so i went to cross-reference and turns out in the french (at least my editions) the phrase is "hérissée et fauve". my french is extremely basic but a quick dictionary search gives me "wild animal" for "fauve", which, okay i guess, that's why hapgood has gone with "wild", but then why has donougher gone with "farouche"? it's a loanword from french too and it's used similarly in english as in french from what i can tell - but why pick another french word meaning "wild" when "wild" is right there!

Jane of Lantern Hill, chapter 2
"She was beginning to wonder how any one so lovely as mother could have a daughter so plain and awkward as herself."
I'm reminded of that Wrinkle in Time bit where Meg despairs of being ugly when her mother is beautiful and Charles Wallace goes, "mother is beautiful, which means at your age she must have been awful." I'm not sure how sound that logic is (although it holds true within the WiT universe, since Meg does grow up to be beautiful) but someone should definitely tell poor Jane that she won't always look the way she does at 11.
Anyway, we get bits and snippets about Jane's mother here, hints of who she might actually be if she weren't under her own mother's thumb. We learn that she would prefer simpler clothes and seems to share Jane's interest in cooking. We get a suggestion that perhaps she would prefer not to spend her every waking moment fluttering beautifully at a social event. But, of course, the entire household is structured around what Mrs. Kennedy wants, and those she loves are no less consumed by the need to not upset her than those she does not love.
We get to meet Aunt Gertrude in this chapter, and she too has been eaten by the house. And yet, she has probably the most autonomy we've seen so far? We're told that Mrs Kennedy does not even respect her, much less love her, but Aunt Gertrude "would not let grandmother keep a housemaid." That implies a level of standing up to her mother that we haven't seen from Jane's mother so far (although of course Jane exists, so clearly her mother did some amount of making her own choices). And Mrs. Kennedy apparently is willing to let her family clean, even if she won't let them cook. Or at least, she is willing to let Aunt Gertrude do so. There's some really insidious class stuff going on here that I am entirely too 21st century middle class to fully parse.
I will say that LMM has motifs that she seems to return to when writing emotionally abusive families. I haven't read the Emily books, so I can't speak to Teddy's family, but Jane and Valancy's families use a lot of the same tactics and have a lot of similarities:
-Physical needs met while emotional needs are ignored or mocked
-Rigid, iron-clad cleaning routines
-Controlling and scrutinizing food
-Religion used as a weapon
-Uncles who ask demeaning questions to humiliate you in public
-The pretty, popular cousin you get compared to
The rigid routine and pretty cousin in particular jump out at me, because they're very specific details. Some of it could be literary tradition or stock narrative devices -- Jane's household is reminding me a lot of Marius from Les Mis' family situation, except that his mother is already dead -- but LMM definitely seems to have some beats she likes to return to.

Hi cou <3 I wanted to ask if you had any thoughts on the Transcendents and/or any brainstorms on what we may see from them if they ever do appear cause there's some interesting names there
Hi Sol!! This ramble really got away from me. I end up going on about the Great War, different European organizations , talk about 55 minutes a little bit, brief stints on the real-life authors, this is really rambly as all hell.
Honestly? I don't know what to expect from them at all, and I'm quite excited about it.
Realistically, I don't expect them to appear directly. It seems like the Transcendents mostly exist in background and worldbuilding outside of the main series. Our favorite sad frenchmen Verlaine and Rimbaud were mostly for Chuuya's backstory (though Verlaine is still technically relevant, as an executive. I expect him to come back... eventually. The Chekhov's Gun of "waiting for a storm" wouldn't have been left if he wasn't mean to come back eventually in a plot relevant way, I hope. We know what happened to Rimbaud, too.
As for the big names we haven't seen any of yet, I feel like they were mostly involved in the circumstances of the War, and some background for 55 Minutes. (I had to go reread the passage where they're mentioned.) We... don't really know anything about them at all, other than they were European ability users who were deployed during the war with devastating outcomes.
Read more cut because I got real rambly <3
If we did see any more from them, though? I expect big things.
I study English literature, so I'm not too versed on other European works, unfortunately, so I did a little light research. (I encourage anyone better with German literature particularly to hop in.)
Goethe's Faust was wildly influential in German literature during a time where there was a push to form a unique literary identity separate from that of England and France, if I'm understanding correctly. It was and is a great work of literature that helped form the literary identity of a country. Foundational. That's not something to be taken lightly and I'd expect a powerful user to come out of it.
Similar with Victor Hugo. Plays, massive literary works, all riddled with social commentary that was key to his time. Big things. I'm more familiar with Hugo and kind of making the assumption anyone seeing this is, too. Or at least knows Les Mis. You don't write Les Mis to get anime twinkified in a way that is weak or uninteresting.
And of course, Shakespeare. Who had such a wild contribution on English literature and the language itself that we still use today plenty of words he invented, and follow the pattern of his plays to no end. I had a horrible Shakespeare phase I never grew out of, and have favorite sonnets (sonnets 131-134 my beloved). He was foundational to the language as we know it. I'm sure he'll be a powerful user.
But... sure, whatever. All the characters we know are powerful skill users in their own right. That's not new, that's just me going "look! this major author was important! wahoo!" I haven't said anything yet.
The Transcendent characters are... kind of strange, when you look at their real life counterparts. Most if not all of the characters are based off of authors within ~100 years of each other (with lifespans ranging from early 1800s to early-mid 1900s, generally.) With considerable overlap.
The Transendents, though? Are kind of outside of this. Victor Hugo is a little earlier than average, but he's got some decent overlap with the other authors. Rimbaud and Verlaine are in there, too. But Goathe? He was born in 1749, and died in 1832. The end of his life overlaps with some of the older authors generally present in the main series, but he really is significantly earlier, generally, to the point its kind of weird. And Shakespeare? Man is from the 1500s. He is so far removed from the other general eras that I was honestly surprised he was mentioned anywhere within relevant BSD canon. As such, I'm expecting to see some crazy shit with him, even in more background lore than actual main plot. Shakespeare is so far removed from any of the other authors featured and so foundational to his language that I can't imagine him not having crazy amounts of impact.
As far as the 'organization' itself, the Transcendents seem to be more of a class of ability users from the war more than any kind of group on their own, which I'll always find interesting. I'd love to learn more of what exactly they did in the war--its only mentioned that Goethe, Shakespeare, and Hugo 'clashed' during the war in 55 minutes. Each from one of the three countries who's peace treaty resulted in Standard Island. So likely they were all enemies. We don't really know who was on what sides, or what the "sides" were at all. Its interesting, because if we expand the scope to Rimbaud and Verlaine as well, that leads to three French Transcendents known, and only one English and one German. (I have my own running theory that Agatha Christie, or perhaps some other member in the Order is also a Transcendent, though.)
Which... I like to believe Shakespeare was allied with the Order, since they seem to call the shots for English ability users and foreign conflicts relating to such, and 55 Minutes says the Transcendents were deployed. As for the other two? Who knows.
We do know a decent bit about goings on in the French side of the war. We know they were running spies, with Rimbaud and Verlaine, and that there were internal conflicts at the time, as Verlaine killed his creator/was acquired by Rimbaud in what they called the May Uprising, iirc. France was also responsible for Mimic becoming what it was. Where Hugo fell into this, I don't know, but he was most likely working under whatever same government umbrella Rimbaud and Verlaine were. But with, theoretically, an even more combative ability, or just more blanket-powerful. Which... Rimbaud's Illuminations is pretty damn powerful, but Hugo was the one deployed as a direct offensive in the war, so we can at least assume his is either more combat-oriented or more generally powerful than Rimbaud's. That's about all I can assume about him.
Wells was an engineer for English skill-weapon development, which we can assume is a project that continued on in England after the war, considering how quickly the Order was able to deploy a weaponized skill user to wipe out Yokohama in Dead Apple. We really don't know much about the Clock Tower, other than the fact the Guild may also have ties to it, and that they're powerful. I'm sitting on the idea that Shakespeare was also involved in the order. We don't know what Agatha's ability is, but again we can make the assumption that whatever hers is, it is less combat oriented than Shakespeare's. Which... doesn't say much of anything, but we could theorize that Agatha's ability leans more manipulative or psychological than physical if it isn't combat optimized, which is an interesting insight to her, but kind of fitting to what we have seen of her, I think.
We... don't really know much of anything about the German side of things. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Goethe is the first German author mentioned in BSD canon at all? So I don't really have a reference for him. We can assume his ability is combat oriented and insanely powerful as well, but I've got nothing beyond that. Hopefully we'll get more content surrounding that eventually, that would be really cool. But... assume combative or otherwise offensive, that's all I've got.
I... don't really know what else to say on them, honestly. There's so little known and so many pieces missing that I can hold high expectations for the Transcendents we haven't seen, but I don't know enough about anything surrounding them to really have more than vague speculation.
Its a silly one, but I personally would love to see some kind of weird obscured identity surrounding Shakespeare at some point. If you've never gotten into the Shakespeare Authorship Question conspiracy theory rabbithole, I recommend it. Some kind of weird identity obscurity in canon would be a really fun nod to it that would personally make me happy and will probably be a headcanon I hold, but beyond that I've got nothing.
This was a very long answer to tell you I have no clue, but I had fun with this ask anyway!! I hope something from it gives you some food for thought.

I am waiting for the new voicemail from my friend Jonathan while reading Les Miserables what's your impression and favorite characters so far?
I'm so sorry, this ask came in May 23... But hey, at least events have swung back around to the point when we are waiting for another Jonathan voicemail! (and wondering... will we ever hear from our good friend again, or did he not survive the climb/vampires/wolves/etc.?) So, at least it's still kinda topical!
I read Les Mis once before, back when I was twelve or thirteen, I'd say? So I'm going into this with a basic idea of the plot, but most of it has been fun re-discovering and I'm really only remembering moments as we get to them at best. I think one thing I'm noticing especially is how well Hugo writes this certain type of punchy line. I keep noticing it. He builds up a longer scene, paragraphs or sometimes even into chapters long, and then crystallizes an idea with a very short sentence that carries a strong emotional weight to it. Often this undercuts whatever was being said before, or at least provides a new perspective that changes how you view it. I could try and dig up a couple examples, but I'm sure you know what I mean, it has been happening a lot!
As far as the actual story goes, it's once again really engaging and interesting, but so far at least in a way where I don't typically feel a huge need or ability to verbalize my interpretations so much? I've really been enjoying reading others but I just haven't done too much myself. Part of that is because I'm so hazy on a lot of the story while others aren't and part is most of my meta brain being caught up in Dracula at the moment and part is probably even it coming in daily without any breaks but also I'm just... I dunno, enjoying the ride more quietly I guess.
That said, I absolutely love Jean Valjean, and Fantine, and while I don't feel like I really know teenage Cosette yet I want to make sure she's safe and have so much love for her as a child that it carries over. I noticed a lot more details about Javert that really inform his character and actions (his own criminal family background, the layers of power in his relationship with Valjean when he was mayor and after, etc.) that I definitely missed age 12, which make him way more interesting to me. In contrast Marius is honestly not super interesting to me? I definitely felt awful for him learning about his father (and for his father of course) but so far it's probably the least emotionally engaging part of the book for me. I guess Waterloo was at times a little more of a slog since there weren't characters in the vast majority of that section who we knew personally, but otherwise, eh. So far all the younger characters haven't fully made their impact, to be honest.

five fandoms, five ships / which do you like best
thanks for the tag @cottonraincoat! took me way too long to get around to these so i'm just combining the two in one post lmao.
when i watched the agent carter show i absolutely fell in love with it. it's been a few years so my memory could be foggy but i adored the depiction of her character and her friendship with jarvis is one of my favourite representations of male/female friendships.
sam obisanya is just. such a kind and good person i can't help but adore him, and his relationship with his father makes my heart warm. seriously go watch ted lasso i beg.
and i mean i am slightly ooc-ing hector bc he is. an ancient greek man. but his depiction in the iliad wrecks me. i went into reading the iliad expecting to dislike him but oh my god he is the epic's true hero.
and okay now for the ships... i cannot lie i haven't been super into shipping for most of my life so i'm not sure i can make it up to five, but i will try...
obi-wan kenobi/anakin skywalker (star wars) wow how surprising. i think i got into reading this around 2021 but didn't start writing it until 2023. they are truly insane about each other and i am insane about them, simple.
valjean/javert (les mis) i did not get this until this january when i saw les mis again in london and the tension between them was indescribable. javert kind of gives owk-era vader in that he has a job he's supposed to do but his obsession with this one guy (that he can still technically argue is duty-related) is getting in the way of everything.
roy kent/keeley jones/jamie tartt (ted lasso) ted lasso is my favourite tv show of all time and i wish these guys had worked out as a throuple. s3 was disappointing overall but jamie's arc over the whole show really won me over on him.
queen charlotte/king george iii (bridgerton/queen charlotte) queen charlotte is hands down my favourite season of bridgerton and the relationship between charlotte and george is really part of that. i weep every time i see or am too heavily reminded of the scene with them under the bed.
erm erm erm cinderella/prince charming (cinderella iii: a twist in time) i will always be a cinderella iii stan and their relationship in this is so sweet and joyful. i really would recommend the film for an easy watch (zero knowledge of cinderella ii required) it is super cute.
this has taken me so long to do i have no idea who has and hasn't done it i'm sorry :,( but please if you haven't done either yet and would like to go ahead!

If you get this, answer with 3 random facts about yourself and send this to the last 7 people in your notifs! Let’s get to know each other better! (Anon or not, it doesn’t matter)
Thank you for this ask, anon!! It's been a while since I've last had this post in my inbox, but it's always nice to see it pop up again. ^^ Now, let's try and find something I haven't said yet, and maybe bring in a little variety...
I first learned about fandom as a kid thanks to my sister, who's ten years older than me and whom I still occasional discuss fandom stuff with, tho we don't really share fics and stuff anymore like back in the day, when she was introducing me to fanfiction and fanart and slash and other stuff. Two of my best fandom friends are also quite a bit older than me. The current "intergenerational friendships in fandom are Always Bad & Predatory" climate and also the general hatred of any woman over... let's say, twenty-five? in fandom never fails to weird me out as a result.
When I was in high school, I had to have surgery in one eye... the good one, too, lol. Anyway, it was a rough time, to say the least, but there's one memory from it I still unironically cherish, and it's so silly and in a way that most likely seems funny only to me: that one time a doctor told me that my pupil would kind of get pulled out of shape and become slightly oblong... a bit like a goat's pupil. I'm sure it's regained its original shape since then (it's been years, after all), and I doubt it's ever been very visible anyway because my eyes are pretty dark and I always wear glasses (and for a while during recovery, the most noticeable thing about the operated eye was, huh, how red it was), but sometimes it still makes me smile how I once used to run around with a more-or-less-secret freaky goat eye. Like a witch who made some weird deal! Or, idk, someone who had a weird run-in with Thor! Which tells you pretty much all you need to know about my sense of humor, I fear. XD
Somehow, despite honestly wanting to, I've never watched any Les Mis, any Notre Dame de Paris, or any Phanton of the Opera that wasn't the movie (which idt I ever got to end of anyway because at the time I had just read the book and spent the whole movie thinking "??? why different??? where Daroga???? WHY PHANTOM PRETTY???? DD:") but I've watched the Italian version of Spamalot live, the premiere of a rock opera style musical based on what's commonly thought of as the first modern novel in the Italian language when it was broadcasted on tv, and three different version of Mozart L'Opéra Rock, La Légende du Roi Arthur, and a couple of Prince of Tennis (yes, the weird tennis anime with That Scene With The Dinosaurs) musicals through, er, less legal means. I honestly love people who are into musical theatre in a more serious way for a bunch of reasons, including how they all seem to be so passionate about so many aspects of their thing from technical details to backstage drama, and I'd listen to them go off about it all for hours (sometimes I do, on Youtube!)... but you couldn't pay me to say one word to them, at least at this point. Which I feel also says something about me. XDD

Happy new year!!! Sorry that's a little late and that I'm just replying now. I actually just now listened to New Year's Day finally..I feel like a bad swiftie haha but I didn't listen to new years yet or what are you doing New Year's Eve either. Anyway I hope you had a nice time ringing in the new year! Honestly I just had a few drinks and my sister went to bed pretty early. I stay up.late all the time so it's not a big deal to me. What about you? I was gonna ask you about your plans before but I didn't get a chance. I hope you're feeling better if you are still sick! Did you think of any resolutions yet? I haven't yet.
Oh I'm glad you got stuff you enjoy. The scarf sounds nice and I'm also a pink girl but don't really like raccoons lol. Christmas was fine..I got a blanket and the 1989TV tangerine vinyl which I think will be more for my sister since she likes orange and i already had the pink one. Also the calendars I mentioned before. We ate a lot of desserts too.
Oh what did she think of the movie? I'm not sure what to expect and don't think I will have time to see it now. Overall it looked pretty good and I do like the original movies which have songs so hopefully she still enjoyed it. It's the same with my family too, but I think they thought In The Heights was okay. I won't be able to see the Color Purple either, and I haven't really heard anything about it yet or if it got good reviews. Hopefully I can also watch eras again when it goes on streaming.
I'm curious to see the differences for the Color Purple movie versus musical but I can hardly remember the musical. So I think I will like watching it again, but I won't remember it as much compared to something like Mean Girls I guess. That was the case for the Holiday Inn musical..I could barely remember the musical while watching it, but it seemed a little bit different to me but maybe I just didn't know it that well haha. It could be cuz the movie is older too, but I still enjoy both. They also mentioned New Year's which was something else I didn't remember. Oh that's a fun story..I liked that I watched it at the right time, even though they mention all the holidays. I figured you knew about it! I think Rent also has a New Year's song too, with the lyric it's gonna be a happy new year so I'm manifesting a little bit haha.
With Christmas songs, there's a lot of different ones so I always like hearing them. Maybe I would do a more classic one that sounds like Christmas and maybe a more slow or melancholy one. When I think of those, I think of John Lennon's or my grown up Christmas list which are pretty different. Then there is Taylors which sounds more joyful and the feeling of this time of year versus Twenty One Pilots who released one a few years ago, and it's called Christmas saves the year. Just one of the similarities between my two favorite artists. But then Taylor has New Year's Day which sounds melancholy but isn't, versus Sabrina's song. That's cool..maybe finally learning one of those instruments will be part of my resolution..but I've been saying that for a while now.
Those are good choices! I always try to go for something newer but couldn't think of any from 1989 or Speak Now vault tracks. I also forgot Bejeweled..to be more confident cuz I need some of that energy. Maisie also has a lyric about New Year's but I like her lyric last year I had to focus on survival..now I'm in my holy revival or there it goes! The universe is shifting and it's all for me. twenty one pilots has a song called Shy Away but the lyric is don't you shy away and I like that but that album is older now too. I'm hoping for new music from them this year soon!
I'm happy you were able to finish The Night Circus and Les Mis in time! I didn't know you were planning to read the Starless Sea in January too..so I will definitely try to read them together at the same time. I just don't know how far I will get or if it's the best time right now for me to read quickly. I mean Since it's the start of the year, I haven't gotten into good reading habits yet. But I guess I can try. I briefly looked at your list and will listen to your recommendations so you'll have to let me know if you like any of them. I'm interested in this is me trying cuz of the title and I like that kind of story. One book I added to my list is called Pink Mountain Nights and I recently remembered two other books I was in the middle of a long time ago so maybe I could finish those this year. Also omg how was Funny Story? I'm glad you loved it! I'm really curious since the plot didn't really grab me at first from the description. But it kinda reminded me of Happy Place and People we Meet on Vacation cuz of the opposites and fake dating I think, but I guess it was more similar to Book Lovers and Beach Read then? You are making me wanna start them again and maybe that's a good thing haha. Maybe I will read a little bit today cuz they are comfort reads to me so I can remember it and hopefully finally finish them this year.
Idk what Taylors new album will be. I've heard a lot of different theories too. Like maybe it will be the same vibe of 1989 ish? Cuz she's thriving right now so then that would be pop I think. I still don't know if she would release it during the tour, but some people think she will and play it acoustically on tour. If that's the case, which would kinda make sense for a breakup album, then I see it being more like Red..which still has some happy/upbeat songs too. I'm sure she will surprise us cuz I think she can do any genre, but I would hope for more guitar, rock, and instruments..which could be similar to Red so it's exciting. But I do think rep is next..she didn't announce it for new years, so I see it being announced when she goes back on tour in February. I'm really excited for the vault songs! So basically twenty one pilots could release a new song around the same time too I hope and that would be a dream! Fun fact..a while ago, I actually had a dream that said new music for them was coming in February lol. They are my two fav artists and weirdly their albums match up so well together cuz they also do eras and Easter eggs. I can explain more if you want, but I would definitely recommend their music!!! They were actually on tour with Paramore before. I'm glad you are liking Paramore, Lana and Fall Out Boy. For Paramore, I would also recommend their sorta unreleased songs from that era..called Oh Star and Adore. I think Oh Star was actually the first song they ever wrote together or something, but I still love it. It's one of my favorites. Those are some of my favorite Lana songs too! For Lana, there is so many I forgot to list cuz I didn't know which ones you already knew. I do love her newer songs too, but love the old albums. I think that's great..I already kinda listen to a new album everyday too, basically but you should also take your time. I haven't made my list of songs and albums of the year yet but I can recommend some if you want next time so let me know, but listening to Lana should take some time too. Aww thanks for saying that..I hope the same for you. I'm pretty busy this week..so I don't know when I will be able to reply but I hope you have a great week and start to your year!
you're totally fine! not a bad swiftie at all! there are no rules here 🤍 i ended up cancelling my plans because i'm still sick :( (which seems to be a recurring theme this winter) and went to bed early! i have a few bookish resolutions, and then i'm also habit tracking in my hobonichi (we'll see how that goes)! happy to share both if you're interested 🤍 do you have any resolutions?
omg the 1989 tangerine vinyl!! i keep thinking about getting it for sweeter than fiction, but i can't really justify getting a third 1989 tv vinyl, since i already have the pink and the yellow (which was a gift)! what kind of desserts did you eat?
the family friend liked wonka! but their family also likes timothee chalemet a lot, which i think helps in this case. i still haven't seen the in the heights movie! speaking of musical movies, did you see the tracklist for mean girls? what are your thoughts?
if you could learn any instrument, what would it be? sometimes i think about trying to learn guitar or piano again, but i don't have space for a piano, not sure if i have the self-discipline it'd take to practice a musical instrument frequently enough, and also i think i'd just get annoyed/stressed out that i'm not ~ instantly good ~ at it haha. even if it has been years since i last took my lessons.
maisie's holy revival is a good lyric! i put "the universe is shifting and it's all for me" in my hobonichi, and my friend (who is also venturing into the world of hobonichis with me) put the holy revival lyric ("now i'm in my holy revival") which is fun! i haven't listened to twenty one pilots, but i know you like them a lot, so maybe i'll add them to my little album challenge. i know i was like "haha 365 albums in 365 days is a lot" but here i am! i've decided to do it! we'll see how it goes. i'm sure there'll be days where i have to play catch up (especially when i'm traveling), but that's okay!
i absolutely LOVED funny story! i wrote my review of it last week and will post it on my book blog closer to publication date, but i really, really loved it. i think i'm a january (beach read) sun, nora (book lovers) rising, and a daphne (funny story) moon. i just loveeee emily henry's books and her characters. i support you in reading whatever makes you happy! it's not a competition, and it's all about what you're having fun with!
would love to hear you explain the twenty one pilots lore/comparisons! i listened to paramore's self-titled album today (my album of the day!) and i really liked still into you (which i already knew before going into the album) and hate to see your heart break! i think the interludes were fun, and almost reminded me of dodie's music, if that makes sense?
hope you're having a good week! 🤍

Coming Attractions!
First Monday of the month, so here we go.
As per usual, this also means an open question night--my askbox is always open, but I'll be actively keeping an eye on it tonight. I do take prompts, but am not necessarily fast in filling them. Any fandom I've posted about here or on AO3 is fair game, as is any of my original stuff.
Short one this month, because I didn't get much done last month, whoops...a big work project took up more brainmeats than I expected it would, ah well.
Mostly moved, mostly everything is sorted; a few things I still need to finish organizing/putting away/etc. But that should also free up some brainspace hopefully!
Anyway. Actual updates.
Star Wars:
Pretty much the same as last week--need to catch up on OTP meme fills; poking back at my original plan for last year's SWBB so I can use it for this year. Not a lot of progress, but hopefully this month will be better!
BSG:
Big Bang matches have gone out! I'm excited to see how everything turns out. And hopefully get actually back into writing the many plotlines that are floating around in my head, lol...particularly The Other Battlestar which still needs an Official title and has been waiting to come out of my head and get Shared for like. over a year. even discounting the like 8-10 year gap when I wandered away from the fandom...
I should be picking up my rewatch soon, too! I have the back half of season 3, plus season 4, and maybe the webisodes (I have access to Face of the Enemy but not Resistance, so we'll see if I actually watch those). Which does mean we're coming up on my absolute least favorite episode in the entire series, haha. I haven't even gotten to it yet and I'm already mad about it (and have found an Additional Reason to be mad about it that I hadn't had before! Yay!) But also after that I get Lampkin, who I love, and while season 4 is a mess in terms of cohesion/continuity it has some of my very favorite episodes in the entire series, So.
Castlevania:
I haven't actually sat down and watched Nocturne yet (mostly because of the aforementioned work stuff), so I haven't quite fallen back into this fandom yet. I do want to get back to Incinctus, and I had one other plot thread idea for another fic based on the first series (essentially, shifting Alucard's S3 timeline by six weeks so the night Sumi and Taka plan to attack him is the same night Greta's messenger gets there, and then see where things go from there).
It's kind of interesting--I have approximately zero knowledge of the games, apart from a few bits and pieces I've picked up from reading fics and/or hanging out on a discord server. Which, of course, has been talking a lot about Nocturne...but almost entirely in the context of how it relates to the game characters/plotlines it's drawing from. Which means I'm both...more and less hyped for it? I don't know, I'm not sure how to word how it's impacted my interest/excitement/etc. for the followup series, because a lot of the comments about certain characters/choices completely fly over my head but they Dominate the server and I'm like "...okay?"
Anyway, we'll see how I feel about it when I watch the series. And if I do end up building a VC crossover in my head (because like. armand and the theatre are right there and while I was able to confine myself to a quick Easter Egg reference in Incinctus...lol.)
Les Mis:
The next chapter of P&J is coming, I swear. Also planning to debut Acheron this month because...I mean I know it's technically a Groundhog Day AU set in June, but it feels appropriate to start posting it around Halloween? IDK XD
Original Fic:
Again I do need to catch up on OTP memes. I do like the one piece I put out this month, which was about the Horsemen in Lux. They're a Delight and I love them.
...yeah, that's about it. Like I said, short post this month because I didn't get much actual writing done last month. Hopefully October will be better for me (if nothing else, hopefully I actually will catch up on all the backlogged OTP Meme fills, lol...)

What are some of your favorite movies (old or new)? I know I already know some of them, do you have other favorite movie ships (I'm pretty sure I already know some of those too, such as Jack/Rose, Jake/Neytiri, and probably Will/Elizabeth)?
While I do like Avatar, I've only seen it a few times. I don’t know if it’s one of my favorite movies--and that Jake and Netyri are a favorite couple of mine--but I do like both.
You’re absolutely right about PotC and Willabeth and Titanic and Jack/Rose. I also ship Jack and Angelica, Henry and Carina, and Philip and Syrena in that franchise.
But some others are Inception. I like Arthur/Ariadne from that movie a lot. And Cobb and Mal.
...And people will probably hate me for this--because I guess people have issues with this movie--but I do love the Daredevil movie with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, and I definitely ship Daredevil/Matt and Elektra there (and in general).
I’ve always loved the The Other Boleyn Girl movie, but I don’t ship anyone in it.
I’ve also always really liked Tristan and Isolde, and ship them.
The Princess Bride: Wesley and Buttercup.
Remember Me: Tyler and Ally
This is actually a mini-series, but I sort of see it as a movie because it together is as long as one: Syfy Alice (a sort of sequel to Alice in Wonderland). And Hatter and Alice in this are actually one of my OTPs.
I like “In Time” with Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. And I shipped the couple in that.
I like Sucker Punch a lot, despite its flaws.
The Red Riding Hood movie with Amanda Seyfried is also good. And I shipped the two in that.
I really do like the broken up couple in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I just recently saw that movie.
Oh! Happy Death Day is some of my favorite movies. And I love love LOVE Tree and Carter!
Phantom of the Opera is definitely one of my favorite movies (the musical). But moreso the 25th recording at the Royal Albert Hall at this point, than the movie musical. Though there are some things about the movie musical that I still love. Like Raoul. Patrick Wilson is the best Raoul ever. And no, I don’t take criticism. And I’m a rare Raoul and Christine shipper. But I do appreciate the Phantom and Christine relationship, of course, as that’s what makes the story what it is. But do I think she should have ended up with him after all the crap he did to her? Hell, no! She made the right choice in leaving--after giving the Phantom much more kindness than he rightfully deserved from her, to be honest--and being with Raoul. And I will die on this hill.
I recently watched Source Code and liked that movie and couple.
I like Limitless. And while it probably is one of my favorite movies, it’s at the bottom of my list. And I didn’t ship anything in it (I don’t even think there are ships? I forget. I’ve only seen the movie once). But I did see some of the TV show, and shipped the new guy who took the drug with the police officer gal he was working with.
I like most of the Disney and Pixar movies, and ship the main couples there. But my favorite (and least when I want something lighter than, say, Hunchback, which I also love) is probably The Little Mermaid. And I will defend Ariel until the day I die. And she and Eric are probably my favorite animated Disney couple. Edit: I also really enjoy Atlantis and Milo and Kida, and so many more. I also adore Fox’s Anastasia and Anya and Dimitri. And The Swan Princess and Derek and Odette. Oh! And Cale and Akima in Titan A.E.
I have a lot of love for Disney’s Enchanted these days, too. I’ve always loved that movie. But it was my grandma’s favorite movie. And since she’s passed, I guess I like to rewatch it and feel close to her. And I ship Robert and Giselle and Edward and Nancy, of course.
...And I feel like I’m forgetting something that I recently watched and loved, maybe.
I do love The Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, as discussed, and need to watch The Dark Knight rises already. Oh. And I ship Bruce and Rachel.
The Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies also mean a lot to me, since Spider-Man 2 was the first PG-13 and action movie I ever saw, and it changed my life.
When in Rome with Kristen Bell and Just My Luck with Lindsay Lohan are probably the only romantic comedies I’ll ever like (though I don’t care about the ships in them that much. Though the latter’s one was cute). But I don’t like them that much.
I feel like I should include Les Misérables (the movie musical) on here, even though I feel it’s somewhat cheating to include musicals--I usually separate those into a musical category--but since I got into Phantom through the movie, I suppose I’ll break the rule this time.
I also like some Disney Channel Original Movies and some of the ships there. Troy and Gabriella from High School Musial being the most obvious choice. But tbh, that’s probably its own list.
Edit: I also, for the most part, don’t include books that have been turned into movies or TV shows in a favorite movies or TV shows list. Because while some of them are... I feel like that’s somewhat cheating, since my love for those films somewhat comes from their source material. So if you’re asking me what I love based on just what a movie itself presents with nothing else tied into that, this is my list.
Edit 2: Oh. And Frozen (and Frozen II with it, I guess, even though that movie has its ISSUES. Even though I still love it). And Anna and Kristoff, because I’m like a lot of the world in this way. I just... like Frozen. I’m not even entirely sure why. Elsa. I always have, and I probably always will.
Edit 3: The Clue movie.
Edit 4: And It’s a Wonderful Life, of course!
Edit 5: And I like Tangled and Eugene/Rapunzel a lot.
The "Now You See Me" movies and the ships there.
Disturbia with Shia LaBeouf. And I ship the main ship, I guess.
The new(ish) live-action Disney Cinderella: Ella and Kit
And while I don't care about the story for Transformers at all--or those movies that much--I did ship Sam and Mikaela.
Oh! National Treasure! Ben and Abigail! That’s one of my favorites. I can’t believe I forgot them!
Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley and the couples there
Edit: Oh, and Bohemian Rhapsody is one of my favorite movies! Shame on me for forgetting it!

Hey, I've seen ur Italian Literature recoms. and it's really helpful. Do you, by any chance, read French Literature too? If so, can you suggest some?
hi anon, sorry for the lateness but I'm going to give this a crack - ofc for obvious reasons as in I'm italian and not french I'm entirely less familiar with french lit that you'd study in school than with italian ones and my knowledge of contemporary french lit is subzero so I can only help you with classics but
I'm going to go straight for it and start with the 19th century novelists for reasons sorry if I go like not in chronological order but
as alexandre dumas wrote my second-favorite book in existence (the three musketeers) and is also one of my favorite writers ever I'll recommend you the d'artagnan romances (musketeers, twenty years later and the viscount of bragelonne) which are long but are all very easy to go through - honest the best thing with dumas is that while he's everything but synthetic you don't feel it, do start with musketeers because it's honestly out of this world good
also honest dumas hasn't written a book that's not entertaining but do read the count of montecristo you really really do want to it's amazing and my second-fave of his after the aforementioned d'artagnan books
talking about 19th century novelists... I mean you really wanna read victor hugo, mind that you have to be in the mood for it because most of his stuff is heavy/long but it's also incredibly well-written and you breeze through it if you vibe with it - maybe you can start with his theater and in that case anything is good though I'm partial to le roi s'amuse for obv reasons (as in they got rigoletto from that plot xD), but wrt novels I'd go with notre dame de paris, les miserables and the man who laughs first, starting with notre-dame because it's shorter and you get a better idea, but my friend les mis is just... I mean I honestly think if you don't read that book you miss out on some of the most amazing literature that ever was so there's that
and going back to another of my fave books ever, do try stendhal - my favorite is the red and the black which has honestly the most delicious terrible amoral protagonist ever and I just really love it, but the charterhouse of parma is also p. great
discussing the other heavyweights of 19th century french novels I personally did enjoy what zola I read more than I enjoyed what balzac I read but I also have no idea what's translated in english or not since not all of them didn't get translated in italian anyway but like if you want to give it a go wrt what you can expect from it with zola I'd go with therese raquin and with balzac either eugenie grandet or lost illusions (?? idk the english title)
meanwhile moving wrt flaubert you really wanna read madame bovary
also alexandre dumas's son - who has the same name as the father so you'll find him as alexandre dumas fils - has the dame of the camelias/la dame aux camelias which is where they took la traviata from and T__T I love iittt
and to finish with 19th century people, you want to try out maupassant too - any short story collection will do you good I think but if you want to try novels I'd go for bel ami
that is to say I haven't touched 19th century genre fiction but I mean... jules verne is a classic™, try out around the world in 80 days, journey to the center of the earth and 20000 leagues under the sea first and then if you like them you'll probably enjoy everything else
talking about classics, another one of my favorite books ever™ is laclos's dangerous liasons which is previous century but like... go for it
for more modern novels I do like a lot radiguet's the devil in the flesh and camus's the plague, there's other stuff I've meant to check for a while especially genre but I haven't gotten around to it yet :(
aaand I mean.... if you're very daring and you're into it I mean I feel bad leaving marcel proust out of a post about classic french literature recs because like in search of lost time is a... founding thing in french literature but like it's the kind of thing that you should read a) when you have a lot of time b) when you're in the mood c) when you're already familiar with most of ^^^^ the above stuff because otherwise it would just go over one's head and it's like seven books so I'm mentioning it because I have to and it's a great book but like if you aren't familiar with previous french literature I'd advise starting from something easier XD
now that was what I can give you for the novels but for everything else:
theater wise you're good with anything by moliere - any play of his is good, I can give you tartuffe, don juan, the miser and the misanthrope to have a few titles but most of his stuff is good
voltaire's work is in general a+ from philosophy to anything else and he's also very accessible, I'd start with candide if you want one thing
if you want to try more philosophers montaigne's essays are great, pretty accessible and have influenced also english writers and so on so he's the one I'd go for
(do not for the love of yourself ever read rousseau DON'T DO IT ANON DON'T DO IT THIS IS AN ANTI-REC)
wrt poetry I mean... if you want to go back to medieval times you can have a knock out of the chanson de roland for like EPIC POEM TIMES - I enjoyed studying it in high school admittedly but I guess it's not fundamental™ unless that's what you're interested in but as half of the few poets I actually do like are french...
my favorite of them is paul verlaine - I checked wiki and in english you can find not all of them but like do try fetes galantes, songs without words and poems under saturn, then there's charles baudeleaire for which you can get les fleurs du mal (I SHOULD hope there's a decent english translation around at least), and then arthur rimbaud, personally I just got a book with his full works and it worked great for me but for specific ones, a season in hell is his most famous, and like I have no idea if they translated verlaine's les poets maudits into english but it could be a good start for that whole branch of poetry
aaand I mean... that's what I feel comfortable recommending but if any of my french followers/french speaking followers who know more about this than me would like to chime in do feel free to! :D I might tag someone in the comments when my brain like starts working because I've been copying notes for the entire afternoon while writing this and I'm braindead but if any of you finds it before I tag you really go ahead XD

12 & 18???
Book Asks!
12) Did you enjoy any compulsory high school readings?
Yeah, I had a few that I liked! I'm going to include middle school reading in this too since we were reading high school level books. The one I remember enjoying the absolute most was And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, which I read for English in 7th grade. Watership Down was assigned to me in 6th and I hated at the time, though came to love it years later. I also enjoyed Fahrenheit 451, Life of Pi, Catcher in the Rye, Lord of the Flies, and parts of Les Mis.
18) Do you like historical books? Which time period?
I'm not sure if this question means "books written in past time periods" or just historical fiction. I haven't read much of the former (except, of course, keeping up with Dracula Daily), and the latter, I really just started recently. The historical period I'm most interested in is the 19th century to early 20th century, but I don't think I've actually read any books set there yet. Other than that, I did very much enjoy a couple of regency WLW romances written by Olivia Waite.

fic writer interview!
thanks for the tag @grantairesbottle !!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
20 ! how did that happen !
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
56,068
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
5 on ao3 but really 4 bc I think Original Work + Dungeons & Dragons (Roleplaying Game) count as one (its backstory for one of my PCs)
the others are Les Miserables, Dimension 20 (specifically Fantasy High) and Life with Derek
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
What To Expect When You're Expecting A Soulmate - (Dimension 20 (Fantasy High)) - Fig/Ayda - the figayda soulmark au nobody asked for but i wrote anyway - classic first words your soulmate will say to you are written on your body somewhere, bc with their first interaction how could i NOT. 2k, oneshot!
Llamas and Siblings and Pies, Oh my! - (Life with Derek) - Casey/Derek - texting fic! the whole family's involved! i don't know how to describe this one except ridiculous and very fun! 4k, oneshot!
Bump In The Night - (Life with Derek) - Casey/Derek - a mix of soulmark aus from a 3am prompt that i wrote in 40mins and didn't read through before i posted. wild that its this high up tbh. 600 words, ficlet!
A Pretty Good Bad Idea - (Life with Derek) - Casey/Derek - summer vibes prompt that's actually just pwp - everyone loves smut OPPPPP. 2.5k, oneshot!
What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger - (Les Miserable) - Enjolras/Grantaire - again, everyone loves smut? this fic is so old omg but yeah i guess its a thing i wrong. canon-compliant pwp. 2k, oneshot!
5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
Yes! Always! I love to chat come talk to me!!
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
God, right. Do we mean angst like "everyone's about to die"? Because if so, What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger, again, or Just Open Your Eyes - but they're both Les Mis and like. Is death angst in canon-era Les Mis bc idt it is???
Non-death related, I'm going with Evacuate The Dancefloor. Mostly because it was going to end happily and then the last 40 words just came out of nowhere but like. It had to. Idk. Sad wanking innit.
7. Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?
Hmmm I haven't written any with like crossed over characters but I like putting people in different settings. Hogwarts AUs etc. And like. My Life with Derek Tag AU, cleverly just titled "Tag".
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Writing for small fandoms is a blessing, no.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yeah but like I'm not comfortable writing it really? But sometimes I do it to challenge myself and those are always the fics with the best stats which is WILD.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I’m aware of!
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Again, not that I'm aware of!
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nel said this too in hers lol but like. No posts fic, but RP. A lot of RP.
Also @nosybutterfly and I have the starting of a Life with Derek one but we've both been working on separate things recently - Em we should get back to it !!!
13. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
The ship that first got me into fanfiction was Harry/Ginny (Harry Potter). But I've probably read more Enjolras/Grantaire (Les Miserables) than anything else. Plus Combeferre/Courfeyrac (also Les Mis). Honourable mentions to: Beck/Johanssen (The Martian), Josh/Donna (The West Wing), Laurie/Amy (Little Women), and Casey/Derek (Life with Derek).
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Nothing has been posted of it yet but I've got this one Ballet Dancer!Casey/Photographer!Derek Long Distance AU and. Eurgh. One day.
15. What are your writing strengths?
I think I manage to get a lot of info into not a lot of words. I also think I'm funny but who knows what everyone else thinks.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
I start so many things I know I'll never finish yikes
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter - I don't even remember my old username but it was on Sink Into Your Eyes, back in the day.
Also Firefly - mostly on fireflyfans.net
19. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?
A Thousand Years Go By (Love Don’t Die) - Life with Derek - Derek/Casey - the mcturi siblings are paranormal investigators checking out sam's new mansion-come-hotel. 8k, oneshot!
this fic hit me like a fever dream and i could think of nothing else until it was written. its also got just... so few hits compared to my other dasey fics and that makes me sad sometimes ngl.

So I'm new to the les mis fandom, sorry if this is a really obvious question, but why do people not like the bbc les mis? I've only seen the first 2 episodes, but it seems pretty well done? Idk I haven't read the brick either so I have very little knowledge, but you have all the knowledge, so would you mind giving me your view?
Well first of all, you are allowed to enjoy any content you wish to enjoy. So if you like BBC Les Mis, then like it!
the biggest reason I think this adaptation is so disliked in the fandom is because of the writer--andrew fucking davies
davies kept talking about how HIS adaptation would be the best one yet and that it would rescue the book from the clutches of the awful musical. And like you just....don’t say that. Especially not when the musical has multiple tonys and is one of the longest running musicals in broadway history. and ESPECIALLY when most of your audience are probably fans of it!
I don’t really want to relive all the dumb sexist and pot stir-y shit he’s said so here are some articles to read...
Andrew Davies on Les Miserables: 'I toyed with the idea of Javert having loveless sex with a 50-year old prostitute to clean the pipes out...'
Andrew Davies on Les Misérables: ‘I’m rescuing it from that awful musical’
Les Misérables viewers think the BBC's adaptation is "weirdly sexual" after scandalous brothel scene (marius has a wet dream about a cosette/eponine hybrid)
and you know? I felt all this stuff when I was watching it. BBC Les Mis didn’t feel genuine to me! It felt like it was trying too hard to say SOMETHING so it didn’t actually say anything at all. or at least nothing new (which is the point of an adaptation). I didn’t feel love when i watched it and that really could have been because of all the nonsense that came before.
And it also could have been because I knew the writer thought all the female characters were flimsy and all the men were just angry 🤷🏼‍♂️
For real tho the thing that really got me was this--
Davies said his adaptation would be the best! And better than the musical! And that all of his characters would have the depth they had in the book! But then.....it wasn’t the best adaptation, it was maybe fine? It wasn’t better than the musical. And the characters weren’t all that deep. He bragged before it came out and then he didn’t follow through!
Also. Just because you include a lot of scenes that are in the book, doesn’t mean your adaptation is good.
I think @lesmisbbc has a really good collection of posts people made when we were all watching it. If you wanna read more specifically why people didn’t like it on a story level. I won’t include all that in here because I really want you to make the choice on your own if you like it or not. Because you ARE allowed to like it.
