Happy Things <3
💕 First kiss July 1st (technically 2nd, after midnight) this was a few days after our first hangout at the drive ins on the 26th (official anniversary)
💘 July 4th ~ Cody brought over lil flavor packets for my fizzy water I had with no flavor. Hehehe. We played monopoly, watched LoL YouTube, got Tbell, I fell asleep during George Lopez standup cuddling cody's foot. Then we went upstairs and cuddle and talk and I slept the best I have in so long. This morning we read my old journals and Cody would read them and it was so freaking funny. Oh, also, Cody kicked my ass in Monopoly and I will never Monopoly again. Hahahaha.
💟 Came over 7/9 and we watched supermarket sweep, Employee of the Month, he bought us Chipotle, and we cuddle and kiss and I love how happy I feel when we are together. He sends the cutest messages and always says the cutest things and is so funny. I am always laughing. One of my favorite times yesterday was when he would be talking and then pause and I'd try to fill the word in and he said it was like mad libs, which is exactly what I was thinking.
💞 Thursday July 16th - Cody brought me Cajun fries from five guys we ate them and played videogames and vidyas.
💘 Friday, July 17th Cody came over and we smoked, he brought Elena a toy elephant and me something to help me roll joints! I ended up doing it too! He brought everything I needed for it too. We watched YouTube, hells kitchen, and played outerworlds. We cuddled a lot. One thing Cody does that I love is when he thinks of something funny and thinks I might have thought it too, he stops and looks at me and waits for me to say it. I love when our brains click like that. He spent the night too we stayed up until almost 5 am and let's just say our neighbors know that too. When we kiss my entire body electrifies and it has been so so long since I've felt anything even close to this. He smells soooo good and knows exactly how to kiss! It's crazy! The next morning we slept in and i felt so safe and happy. Then we got ready and smoked and chilled and played fallout. Cody is so good at it - he's so freaking funny when he plays too. Then he went out to melt with me and we had a car picnic.
💕 July 19th - today Cody came over at 9 am and hung out all day while I worked. We went thru Mickey D's for his breakfast. He downloaded kingdom hearts on my PS4. We played that and fallout - he bought us chipotle he brought me a huge charger for my controller too!
💟 We have hung out many times. He brought me a new battery for my vape pen. It is amazing! We watched all of Umbrella Academy in days. Vacation got cancelled so he spent the night in Saturday - it was a dream. Waking up next to him and immediately kissing him is heavenly. I hope he likes me too. I always doubt myself. Today he told Annie about us. I am so happy he did that, whether it was for me because I was scared or for himself, I am still happy about it. I just hope he isn't pulling my leg about anything. I gotta stop worrying so much. We get to hang out Friday so I'm happy. We got food on Sunday when watching Umbrella Academy - I got sushi and he got general tsos chicken from Number 1 buffet. He said fried rice would be better than regular white rice. I love his loops.
💘 9/2/20- it rained. Cody slept over. I have never woken up next to someone and felt as good as I do when Cody is there. Is this what it's like to feel like someone genuinely cares about you? I keep thinking it's all a dream or a joke. He is so hawwwwt I could die, I have never wanted anything so much. He made the BEST pancakes I've ever had in my entire life for me this morning with blueberry sauce. He makes me nervous because I feel like I could grow to care too much about him and fall so very much in love and that always scares me so much because of how unlovable I have felt for so long. He stayed with me all today, he's napping now. when he touches me my skin literally sings! Ahhh. He's amazing. We watched a LOT of guy's grocery games, haha.
💞 Cody slept over fridayyyyy and Sunday this week! On Friday we cooked (he had eggs and bacon and I had a bagel burger) we learned how to deep fry, hahaha. We made fried pancakes but we didn't have milk so we used chocolate milk. It was so funny, we didn't notice we didn't have milk until we had to put it in. We watched a lot of Masterchef. I was a grump and he was sweet. He bought the spiderman playstation game and we played Up words. I love that he asked if I wanted to play a board game that made my whole week! I had so much fun even though it took me so long to think of words... I feel bad because I get so mad at myself then get grumpy when I feel like I'm under pressure. We finished Masterchef Season 6 and Claudia won Cody and I liked stephen the best, but he didn't make it. :(

Week 3
June 30
We had to be up and ready to go at 7:40am because today we were going to be driving to the Jesuit Missionaries about 3 hours away. Before the missionaries, we went to an amethyst mine. It was cool to hear about it and they said that they don't export the gems so the only way to get it is by buying directly. The gems were breathtaking!
After another two hour drive we finally arrived at the San Ignacio's missionaries and ate at the comedor right in front. I got a pollo milanesa and a salad. I crushed the salad but the pollo was average so I didn't finish it.
After lunch we toured the missionary. Our tour guide explained to us that these missionaries were sent to spread the word of God to the Guarani People. They had built multiple communities in the surrounding area including brazil and paraguay. Later they were taken out and some of the guarani people went back to living in the jungle. San Ignacio was abandoned and destroyed, so the restoration is only partial. It was cool to be able to walk through their common spaces and know that a couple hundred years ago there were indigenous people walking on the same grounds.
The tour finished and we loaded up on the bus for the three hour ride back home. We ate dinner at the hotel and I got a pumpkin soup as a starter and let me tell you I was a little on edge because I’ve never had pumpkin soup but it was sooooo delicious. Since it was a starter they only gave me a little but I would’ve been happy eating a whole bowl of it, 9/10. For my main course I got the fish of the day which was “pacu” with a side of mashed potatoes. Mashed potatoes didn’t disappoint but the fish could’ve been better. Not my cup of tea. And for dessert I got a flan.
After dinner we all went to bed since we had to get up even earlier to head to the waterfalls.
July 1
We left the hotel at about 7:30am and headed to the waterfalls that was only 30min from our hotel. We were trying to get on the first train up to the waterfalls so that it wouldn’t be as crowded on the lookout. It was perfect timing because as we wrapped up taking all of our pictures a crowd of people were walking up. If you are able to get on the first or second train in Iguazú falls it honestly will make taking pictures a lot easier.
After we saw “la garganta del diablo” we went to the little store they had and I got an empanadas de espinaca y queso (spinach and cheese). When I paid for it the guy told me to be careful with the animals. But I realized that the birds here are VERY vicious. I stayed inside to eat my empanada but my professor went out to drink her coffee and eat her empanada and got attacked by some birds! This is why they have cages specifically made for people to eat in LOL.
We did another trail to see the falls from a different angle and it was just mind blowing.
After the trails we had little time for lunch. I didn’t want to eat too much because we were going to be taking a boat tour right after. From one of the comedores I got some chicken and rice. While on this trip there are two things that I really miss: rice and beans. They have rice here but they usually eat potatoes and beans are not very popular here so my Salvadoran blood has been a little sad.
Anyway we got on the boat and I definitely recommend doing it if you are able. They give you a waterproof bag to put your stuff in and I also recommend taking your shoes off and putting them in the bag. I was also wearing a poncho which helped protect me, but regardless you will get wet. They take you really close to the falls and you can take some pictures in front but then they tell you to put your phones away because they take you sooooooo close to the falls and get soaked!!
Once the ride was over we got back on our tour bus and headed back to the hotel.
For dinner, we ate at the hotel and I got the pumpkin soup, salad and the chicken milanesa with a side of mashed potatoes. Pretty good meal, favorite of course was the soup.
After dinner some friends and I went to the store to get something to drink. I got a white boxed wine that was only 55 pesos! (~$1.30). If you were wondering, no I did not finish it.
July 2
We were able to sleep this morning till about 9am since we had to leave the hotel at 10am. We got on the plane and headed back to Buenos Aires.
After we got off the plane and back to the resi (which I sort of missed) we dropped off laundry and got a little snack.
Later that night we went to “Caracas bar” to watch the Brazil vs Argentina game. I got this drunk called guarapanita which was rum and fruit juice. I also got some tostones de carne which really hit. The bar was a really cool and had a big screen to watch the game on but unfortunately the energy in the bar was really off. If you don’t know Argentina lost and it was really sad :(.
July 3
I was so excited to wake up today because my sister was going to be coming to Buenos Aires! I got up at around 10:30 and went to brunch with some girls at this cafe called adobo. We ended up walking but then couldn’t find it and then google maps said it was twenty min away so we got a taxi but what we didn’t realize that there were two locations #whoops. Anyway the food was bomb. The bagel sandwich just hit differently and Nutella and banana French toast was to die for!
After breakfast I went back to the resi and picked my things for our trip to Uruguay later that evening. I picked up my laundry and waited for my sister to arrive. Once my sister got there we went to exchange some money. I thought that Uruguay was going to be cheaper than Argentina for some reason but I was wrong. The exchange rate right now is about .55 Uruguayan peso for 1 Argentine peso.
We went to a cafe near Plaza Serrano called “La Panera Rosa” and I got a Chicken Rigatti Pasta. It was honestly one of the best meals ive had. It really had a lot of sauce and contrary to what Future says you can really never have too much sauce.
After lunch we got in a taxi and headed to the port and got on a Buquebus. Which is a ferry and then a charter bus to Montevideo,Uruguay.
We checked into our hostel and then I messaged a friend I had met back in 2016 through Amigos de las Americas a nonprofit organization that I volunteered for. When my friend said he'd love to meet up I was ecstatic! We went to a random cafe near by and got a Chivito, which is a typical Uruguayan sandwhich and of course some wine.
After my friend Miqueas gave us a little tour of the city and we headed to a bar to get a night cap.
July 4
Happy fourth of July!!
This morning we got up and checked out of our hostel since we would be traveling to Colonia later. We walked to a restaurant to get some “breakfast” even though it was 11:30 am. My sister and I shared a milanesa that came with two fried eggs and some fries and potato salad. No need to mention the restaurants' name there are probably better ones out there.
After lunch, we headed to Montevideo Shopping because my friend works around there so he said he would meet us up after he got out. Sooo in the meantime, we got to walk around and window shop.
Once my friend got out of work my friend took us to the coast to get a good view and he knew I had a blog so he wanted to make sure I got good pictures! ( Gracias Miqueas!!! <3)
After the photo session, we headed to the bus terminal and got our tickets for the bus ride to Colonia. We decided to get a quick bite to eat in the terminal to this restaurant called “La Mostaza”. My sister and I shared Ravioli, which was pretty bomb. The filling for the ravioli was like spinach and it was different but definitely tasty.
Once we finished we headed back to the hostel to pick up our luggage and then got a taxi back to the terminal and then got on the bus for Colonia. Once we arrived to Colonia I was a bit nervous because I did not see too many taxis but luckily once we walked outside there was a stand and then headed to our hostel and went to bed.
July 5
Today we got to sleep in again and then got ready to go get some breakfast. We went to this cute coffee shop called “Colonia Sandwich and coffee shop”. I got a roast beef sandwich and some tea. The place was really cute and since its winter time here they had blankets for everyone who sat outside which definitely helped.
There were a bunch of birds surrounding us it was a little scary but more cute lol.
After lunch we just walked around the town which is really small so it wasn’t too long. We saw a lighthouse and some cool views on the coast.
Later we did some more walking and found the drawbridge that we couldn’t find earlier. We also gained a new friend along the way lol.
We decided to get a little snack to hold us over so we could try and eat dinner at a “normal” time. (Dinner in Argentina and Uruguay is usually eaten around 9 or 10pm so its been something difficult to adjust too) We walked into this restaurant that was right in the center, I wish I could tell you the name but the sign outside literally just said “Restaurant”. Anyway my sister and I shared a Rice with seafood dish and some wine. I loveeeee seafood so this was a perfect combination for me.
After we decided to walk and get some ice cream at Freddo which is a pretty popular chain here. We got a Dulce de Leche cone.
Much later we went to go get some dinner at a pizza place called “Napo” it was really delicious. You could even see them making your pizza. My sister noticed that the guy making the pizza had a hat on and said that's probably a health code violation but im still here so I guess it's not that big of an issue. My sister and I got a salad and a pepperoni pizza and some red wine. (forgot to take a picture of the pizza sorry!)
After we headed back to the hostel and went to bed.
July 6
Today we woke up and checked out of our hostel and then headed to go get some breakfast. We went to this cute cafe called “Picnic”. I got an orange juice and a caprese empanada and then my sister and I shared a donut which was nothing like ive ever had before 10/10.
Since we had basically seen all the important landmarks we walked around and went window shopping. After we decided to go do a wine tasting at a place called “Buen Suspiro”. We had tried to go there the night before but it was closed. We got some charcuterie and tasted four different wines: Rose, Sauvignon blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tempranillo. My favorite was the Tempranillo and a close second was the Sauvignon blanc.
After the taste testing, we went back to collect our belongings and headed to the port to get on the ferry back to Buenos Aires.
Once we got back I helped my sister check into her hostel and then headed back to our resi to work on this blog because it was long overdue!
After I finally caught up we went to dinner at “La Robla”. I got myself a Milanesa with a salad and my sister got a Steak with some mashed potatoes and we shared half a liter of sangria. I didn’t know sangria is literally just wine and fruits lol, the more you know.
For dessert we got a banana split!
After dinner, we walked my sister home and then went to bed.
This week we’ve done a lot of traveling so im excited to be back in BA!
Hasta luego,
T.L.

At 41 weeks + 3 days and 4 membrane sweeps later…
I woke up Saturday morning, August 11th with mild contractions that were 20 minutes apart. They weren’t painful but I was pretty sure they were contractions because they were 20 mins on the dot for a few hours. So that morning Chris made breakfast for Kinley & I and then we headed to the grocery store to get a couple things we needed.
Towards the end of my pregnancy my midwife said we should have sex two times a day until the baby came to continue to ripen my cervix, so at 11:00 AM we put Kinley down for a nap and decided to “do it” (sorry if you’re reading this Mom & Dad! Lol!). We knew that if this was the real thing, it would kick start/speed up labor. Plus we figured, “doctor’s orders!” Haha
That immediately threw me into labor. Right off the bat, contractions were 3 mins apart. I was in shock. Could this really (and finally) be the real thing?! After an hour of contractions 3 mins apart, I called my midwife to talk it over with her. She had said sometimes sex can bring on contractions like that and then slow down a few hours later. She said I could come in if I wanted to, or stay home to labor as long as I felt comfortable doing so. Even though they were 3 minutes apart, I still felt like I had time on my side and felt comfortable staying home. The contractions eventually slowed to 5-6 mins apart, but they were definitely getting more intense. This was definitely the real thing!
Around 1:00 PM I called my bestie to come over to help us with Kinley while I continued to labor at home. I walked, and walked, and walked around my house ALL DAY. It was a hot summer day so instead of going on a walk outside we opted to stay in in the air conditioning. I wanted to stay as active as possible to keep things moving and also bring the baby down with gravity. When my legs got tired I sat on my birth ball and bounced and rolled my hips. The contractions were completely manageable all afternoon.
Around 7:00 PM (8 hours into labor) I knew it was time to head to the birth center. I started to get the “shaky labor legs” and the contractions were intensifying so I knew it was time to go. We still had a 45 minute drive ahead of us so I figured we needed to hit the road before things got too much more intense. When we arrived, my midwife checked me. I was 4 cm dilated, fully effaced, with a bulging bag of water. I was happy I was at least that far along.
For the next hour and a half I walked around the room continuously as I breathed through contractions. When I needed a break from walking, I would sit on the birth ball to bounce and roll around as much as I could. I would usually walk for 5 minutes and then sit on the ball for 5 minutes. I knew staying active would help move things along and I had prayed specifically for a fast labor. At 10 PM my contractions were 2 minutes apart and my midwife checked me again. I was only 4.5 cms dilated. She asked if I wanted her to break my water and I immediately said, “YES!” After she broke my water I got into the birthing tub to continue laboring.
Things picked up QUICK! Within about 30-45 minutes of laboring in the tub I asked my husband & midwife to grab the trashcan because I needed to throw up. I knew I was entering into transition which was 7 cm. Feeling nauseous and throwing up is usually a sign that you’re entering into transition.
I couldn’t believe that I was already 7 cms in such a short amount of time, but I could also feel the contractions intensifying. Up until that point the pain was totally manageable. I had told my husband right after I threw up, “Wow, I’m surprised because the contractions only really hurt for about 15-20 seconds (at its peak) and the rest of the contraction is totally manageable.” But it seemed like it was only 1 minute later that I was grueling in pain for 2 minutes straight through each contraction. I knew I had passed 7 cm and was now somewhere between 8-10 cms.
Each contraction hit me like a massive wave and I was doing my best to stay relaxed and breathe through them. Staying relaxed is one of the most important things you can do in labor. If you are tense, your cervix can also tense up and it can stall or even stop labor, so I was trying my best to hold on and stay calm.
Before I knew it, I heard myself REALLY vocalizing through each contraction. I had to because it was the only way to keep from screaming although eventually there was some screaming— and that was okay! I knew not to resist the sounds my body was making because as I screeched trough the pain I knew my body was doing everything it needed to do.
I finally reached the point where I felt like I couldn’t take the pain. Panic set in for a moment as I wondered how much longer I had to hold on. But in that moment I remembered reading several birth stories where other women got to this same point and the very next moment the baby was born. This gave me hope she was about to be born.
My midwife began reassuring me that I was SO CLOSE. I wanted to believe her, but I was wondering if she was just telling me that to comfort me or if she was serious. The date was August 11th and my sister’s birthday is August 12th. My sister was praying hard that Harlie would be born on her birthday. I remember glancing at the clock at 11:30 PM as my midwife said, “Your baby girl doesn’t want to share birthdays with your sister, she’s going to be born before before midnight.” “Really?! I thought. Was she being serious?! I pray to Jesus she is being serious!”
Immediately after I remember thinking, “the pain of these contractions are so intense, I can’t IMAGINE pushing during a contraction to get her out!”
But then suddenly, I pooped.
You might be wondering why I included this, but it’s actually a fascinating part of the story! When your baby is about to be born, the baby descends deep into your pelvis and your colon literally gets flattened, therefore you poop! No need to feel embarrassed, it’s 100% normal and something that just happens in childbirth. The cool thing was, my husband said the moment after I pooped, he saw my big, huge belly all of a sudden drop and almost flatten. The baby dropped deep into the birth canal and she was ready to make her debut.
The next moment I screamed, “HERE SHE COMES!!!”
I knew it was time to push, no one had to tell me. I very much wanted and prayed for this feeling. I told my midwife prior to birth that I did not want to be managed in the pushing phase and that I wanted a physiological birth, meaning I would follow my body’s lead on what to do because it knows exactly what to do on its own.
I began pushing and it was completely instinctual. I never told my midwife I was going to push and she didn’t say a word other than “GREAT JOB! GREAT PUSH!!” After 4 minutes of pushing, she was born! I was in complete shock!
Within 1 hour and 45 minutes of my midwife breaking my water, I progressed from 4.5 cm dilated to my sweet baby girl being born!
She weighed 9 lbs 6 oz and was 22” long!
Prior to birth, I prayed specifically for a few things: no tearing, no hemorrhoids, and a fast labor. Low and behold with a 9 lb 6 oz baby, I didn’t tear, I had no hemorrhoids, and my birth could not have been any faster. My mind was blown, and still is, how God answered each and every one of my prayers specifically and intentionally!
Delivering the Placenta
Did you know that after you deliver your baby, you have to deliver your placenta too?
After Harlie’s birth, I had to then deliver the placenta about 20 minutes later. After a few pushes it was out. After I delivered it, my midwife brought it over to show me how fascinating it was.
Previously I thought placentas were gross, but she really opened my eyes and showed me how amazing they are! (Seriously google how amazing placentas are, its fascinating!!)
As she was explaining how amazing placentas are to me, she told me she was particularly amazed by mine for several reasons. She took it over to the scale to weighed it and said that it was two times the size of a normal placenta. The average placenta size is around 1 lb and mine was over 2 lbs! She also could not get over the “health” of my placenta and said, “this does not look like a 41 week placenta! This looks like a 37-38 week, thriving placenta!” She said typically a 41-42 week placenta tends to not be as healthy because its losing its ability to nourish, but that was not the case for mine! She then went on to say that the health of my placenta is why my gestational age is past 41 weeks, and I should expect to go that long every pregnancy! I thought that was a really awesome fact and is a good reminder to eat healthy during pregnancy because you are nourishing your baby and your own body!
Funny side story:
About an hour or two after the baby was born, the nurse walked me to the bathroom (attached to the birthing room) to go pee and take a shower. After I went pee, the nurse stood me up to help me get into the shower. All of a sudden I got really dizzy and my arms and legs began to shake so I told her I needed to sit back down on the toilet to rest for a minute. Next thing I knew the strong scent of ammonia was hovering under my nose and I woke up to my midwife saying, “Welcome back!!” with a huge smile on her face.
“What? Did I pass out!?” “Yep you did, so we are going to postpone that shower until later!” We all had a good chuckle as the nurse helped me back to the bed. They said that my body did such a tremendous amount of work that I was just very depleted of nutrients. They told me I needed protein, carbs, and water - so good thing my bestie packed me a bagel, protein bar, and smart water in my labor bag just before we left the house. Mama straight HOUSED that food as soon as I laid down on the bed :)
Anyway! I hope you enjoyed the read! Harlie’s birth is sooo special to me and I pray I have another one just like it! Yes, labor is painful but it’s the best type of pain— the pain of bringing a child into the world! Birth doesn’t have to be a horror story, it can actually be a dream come true.
XO,
Christi

Exercise 5.30 am :
In 2006, my schedule was every other day – strength; Every other day than that – cardio. I didn't go to the gym; I bought DVDs for @ home. For me personally, if I do the gym, it's an excuse for me not to do it (I don't want to drive, it's too this or that outside, gas, etc). In my living room, I have no excuse.
For strength I did Gunnar Peterson's line of Core Secrets. [1] [2] [3]
For cardio I did Madonna Grimes hip hop and Latin series, a hula series by Kili, Paula Abdul's dance cardio, Chalene's Turbo Jam, & Shaun T's Hip Hop Abs -- Level 2 Ultimate Results Series.
Since January 2007 I've done Turbo Jam exclusively and have her full collection of workouts. I LOVE it and will keep it as a staple in my daily workouts. Anything dancey is the easiest way for me to get it done – I get bored with other stuff. I change my schedule every month; I like to keep my body guessing and not getting used to a routine!
In July '06 I did cardio M W F and strength T Th Sat.
In August '06 I did cardio Sun W Th F and strength T Sat
Then, up until January 20th, 2007 I did cardio Sun W F and strength T Th Sat
My favorite TurboJam Routine is the 'Advanced Rip You Up Rotation'. It's Sick and INSANE and I LOVE IT! It pushes my body to the max and then I don't do it for a few months later so my body doesn't get used to it. Click here to see the TurboJam Advanced Rip You Up Rotation.
Healthier Choices:
Breakfast 7.30 am – I never have time to eat in the morning so yeah, I am do a quick slim fast instead. To save money, I do the powder and just mix in the morning with Lactaid non-fat or fat free milk. It costs MUCH less than the individual cans. $7 for a can that lasts you like 2 months. 2 months of breakfasts for just $7?! Come oonn hahaha. To alternate when I have time (usually weekends), I'll do 1 cup of Total Raisin Bran cereal (high in iron) or multigran multiberry Cheerios instead with some type of fruit. For the winter, oatmeal or grape nuts with lactaid non-fat milk and nuked in the microwave. Omelet's are yummy with Egg Beaters, green red and orange peppers, some onions and a little low fat cheese. Try Morning Star breakfasts sausages. They aren't real meat, so the fat content just isn't there. And they're actually good!
Snack 10 am– something small like a low fat yogurt & pretzels or grapes & pecans. You get the idea.
Lunch 12.30- This is "big" meal time or where I try and do high caloric if I get the inkling rather than at dinner. If you do it at lunch, you're more likely to burn it off during the day than to have something high in calories for dinner and then go to bed. To save money, you can do Healthy Choice Flavor Adventures. They're really good and are usually on sale for $2. I now cook my lunch & dinner at one time daily. I'll do 2servings, eat half for dinner and half for lunch the next day, it saves tons of time and thinking!
Snack 4pm- whatever I didn't eat for the earlier snack. Or I get a big bag of Snyder's low salt snap pretzels and at home, break them into little 100 calorie packs (kind of what they're trying to do now with cookies and chips, etc) into sandwich bags. It actually helps because it helps me stop at a point and not sit and eat and eat with an open bag. Some yummy air popped popcorn from my local Nuts To You store. Also fun option is 1 or 2 cups of seedless grapes or just a piece of fruit. I also enjoy Vita Muffins You can get them from a Whole Foods supermarket or go to vitalicious.com.
Dinner 7pm- Again, Dinner is half of whatever I've previously cook for lunch. Or I just go with something light since I can’t burn off much at night

Tips I've learned along the way
LIQUIDS
I drink AT LEAST 64 oz of water a day. 32 oz during my morning workout, 32oz on my way to work (it's an hour commute by car) after the slim fast (You MUST drink a lot of water after slim fast). 32 oz during the rest of the work day. I know that if I try and do it at home, I wont. Sometimes making the water with Crystal light can help you drink it–rather than just plain water.
I went 2 months without drinking any diet soda. I now allow it as a treat(the new diet cherry coke zero is phenomenal!!! )
FOOD
No eating after 8pm. No snacks or sweets or anything. Before I did nothing at all after 8, but now I won't deprive myself of water, crystal light, diet soda... Since while you sleep you are your most dehydrated. The time is determined on when you go to sleep. I go to sleep at 10pm – so 8 is my cutoff.
Wheat Wheat Wheat! There are SO many choices out now. I sometimes do wheat potato bread instead of white bread or even whole wheat bread. I do wheat bagels (Thomas' has some yummy ones! They're called Bagel Squares). Wheat tortilla bread for my wraps. Wheat pastas –ORGANICS is a great brand! ORGANICS has yummy wheat pastas and pasta sauces! The marinara sauce is amazing. Ooo with wheat penne pasta, shrimp and some cheese on top *drools*.
Low fat does not = low calories. Read your labels. I track my exercise and calories.
Low fat mayo, low fat yogurts (I do a generic supermarket brand. 40 cents and its sooo yummy!), Low fat dressings – try the new salad sprays! They give you the dressing taste without all the calories. Balsamic is my favorite. Also, instead of mayo try Hellman's new Dijonnaise. It is soo yummy. 0g of Fat. Its a mixture of spicy mustard and mayo.
Treats
EDDYS slow churned ice cream –½ cup for 100 cal!!! A nice pick you up and it's really yummy. I usually have that ½ cup with a Deep Chocolate Vitamuffin -- my healthy version of 'ice cream and cake'. Breyers slow churned is YUMMY also. It tastes just like frozen yogurt.
ALLFRUIT Popsicles – mmm they're excellent. I've even gotten my 'bad eating' family hooked on those hahaha. You can get them anywhere but Target has them for less.
Snyder's snap pretzels, popcorn, nuts (like pecans, sunflower seeds)
& of course, Fruit fruit fruit!
Exercise
It is recommended to do 30 minutes of exercise 6 days a week. That doesn't mean 30 minutes all at once. You can do 10 in the morning, 20 later…20 in the morning, 10 at lunch -- like that. Exercise in this form is represented as "breaking a sweat". So whatever helps you break a sweat, do that for 30 minutes… if you get my drift ;)
Never do exercises less than 6 hours to your bed time. It'll throw off your sleep and good sleep helps you have energy which in turn helps you lose weight.
Sleep
Wake up the same time every day, even weekends. Your internal clock will thank you!
Shopping
There are just so many choices out now. And they aren't too much more than the"regular" stuff. Genaurdi's is my favorite supermarket. Shop Rite has better prices and Target has some great things also. Whole Foods is a great supermarket. I also buy in bulk my meats and veggies at a wholesale bulk store – like BJs, Sam's or Costco. I only cook for me, so I freeze everything in twos – 1 serving for lunch and one for dinner.
Tracking
My one major piece of advice? TAKE PICTURES! You'll thank yourself when you are 80+ pounds less a year later and can look back and say wow.. Take swimsuit, underwear or exercise clothing pictures for your own collection and clothed pictures to share your success with others.
I measure & weigh myself every week (although it started melting off so fast in the beginning I would do it every other day LOL).
Invest in a good digital scale. Mines is so good, it literally told the same exact weight the same day I went and got on the doctors scale: true test of a great scale. I got the Tanita with Body Fat% calculator for $70.
Keep a diary. I TRY and track everything I eat, exercise, how I felt about that exercise, menstrual cycle (it affects your weight counts-ovulating, cycle, end cycle), and a chart of my measurements, weight and dates. - This also helps you learn more about your body. I'm so much more self aware! I track my exercise, food and weight. I've noticed that by the end of the day I have 400 –900 calories left to expend!! How self-aware it makes you!
I also invested in a good heart rate monitor. I have a PINK (heheh) Polar F6 heart rate monitor. It tracks the amount of time you work out, how much you have burned, how long you were in your selected hr target range, plus so much more! I use it at every exercise session.
Words of Encouragement
Turbo Jam + Tracking program + Polar hr monitor = a SICK combination that will help you SO much!
Just be patient! HAVE FUN! That is the most important. If you're not enjoying it, you won't lose and it wouldn't be worth it even if you did!
Don't be so strict with yourself. Slip ups happen. It's the control you set that will amaze yourself. "ya know, I really only do want this one piece of candy". "I don't really need 2 pieces of pizza".. etc.
PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR BODY. In a week or 2 my appetite completely shrunk. Pay attention to when you feel hungry and etc. You'll be amazed.
It takes 45 minutes for our bodies to realize we are full. Eat slow –cut up your food as you go.. sip water..etc.
This is the first step, getting information. Gradually do it. You don't have to be a pro from the get go! Try the exercise first. It's most important to change exercise first because when you start changing your diet; you'll need your metabolism to get going on this new routine. Then try the stopping eating at 8 (or what works with your bedtime). Then try the eating changes. Let me know how you're doing! Slow and steady wins the race. Don't look for quick fixes as we've all tried those and we see it doesn't work. It didn't take you overnight to gain the weight, so you won't lose it overnight either!! You have your whole life to lose the weight –more important? TO FEEL HEALTHY! My energy has skyrocketed and my self esteem and self confidence has followed.
