we've all seen the jokes about Raphael and clonefucking but what if we talk about Raphael and Clone. welcome to my TED talk, here's how Raphael can still win-

(don't take it TOO seriously, i'm just offering some info/lore/mechanics and whatnot from d&d that could be interesting to consider, for fics or headcanons or whatever else this might be useful for lol)

anyway onto the post. so while idk if 5e has anything particularly specific or definitive about this (knowing 5e probably not, though I haven't read descent into avernus so idk if they have more fiend lore in there) going off 3.5e cambions are just defined as another name for half-fiends, which the MM says are typically outsiders with the native subtype - meaning they can be "raised, reincarnated, or resurrected just as other living creatures can be". huzzah, this means they have souls (imo). presuming the same holds true for cambions in 5e, since 5e also just defines them as the offspring of a fiend and a humanoid, i don't see why Clone wouldn't be an option for Raphael. it's only 8th level (surely there's a few 15th level wizards out there), the material component cost is only 3000gp (for a diamond and a container for the clone), and once the clone matures it "endures indefinitely" as long as the container does; when the creature dies its soul transfers to the clone with all its memories, abilities, and personality (but none of its gear, so we still snatch his diary) + the body's physical remains don't disappear if they aren't destroyed, so the orb vision we got about Meph munchies still tracks

the only potential issue is that in order to transfer to the clone, the soul of the creature must be "free and willing to return", but idk why anyone would have a claim on Raphael's soul to prevent it from returning. since he clearly deals in other people's souls a lot, he would probably be pretty careful about not letting anyone else get their hands on his! (plus he makes a point of saying he's a devil not a cambion when talking about himself, he wants to act like he doesn't have one at least 😂)

Clone lets you make the clone look like a younger version of the creature as well (nooo dont make your clone look like a younger version of yourself Raphael you're so sexy ahah)

🥀- Well, I love compliments in general. Surprising, right? (/sarcasm). But this is about unusal compliments. There's one that I have gotten textually which was "you need to be studied in a lab," and honestly, yes! It reminds me of that one scene in b99 where Gina has the attention of an entire group of professionals.

There's also the category of compliments that are normal ones but said in a freaked out tone. For example, when I mention some strange and unusual fact and people are like "you're so knowledgeable" but they have visibly been dealt psychic damage by what I just said. It's fun!

Last but not least, frogboiling. "You talk so much about [strange and unusual topic] that I like it now / am desensitized to it / think about it sometimes" is HELL YEAH from me. Alas, I suppose it starts to veer away from "unusual compliment" territory.

💎- I feel like a cat who has been given a sack of catnip?? Hello?? Mm, well. is it cheating when I say "my vibe"? Perhaps if I specifically say "being reliable / dependable / a role model," which I know I am.

I've taught people how to cook / bake. I've taught people how to paint and write and sew. I am always ready to offer good advice, an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, etc. I have very sharp senses so I can help people identify smells / flavors / sounds from really far away / who is walking nearby. I know various methods of healing! And uhhh I also think I'd make a great parent someday teaching so many skills - and singing, boy I can't wait to sing lullabies I know they would love my lullabies.

🎀- hmm! hmm hmm hmm let me think... i rarely retain information about characters who are canonically disordered, and there's also the whole "good representation" nuance aspect... not to mention that i'm sure my other disorders also change the ways i act, lmao!

all this to say that this comes from a personal feeling of "oh yeah it would be so tasty if this character had npd, they own it, i love it."

of course, shout out to my boy narcissus who was so upset about the inexistence of clonefucking that he died <- GREATLY EXAGGERATED SUMMARY OF THE MYTH at least the version i know

Okina Matara, from Touhou Project. Ah, I could ramble for hours about this series if given the opportunity, but I shall not. Instead, quote the wiki, she has no mercy for disrespect and graciously blesses those she favors, is ostentatious, prideful, confident, self-centered, a mastermind of incidents, has connections to MANY parts of the lore and mythology, and ultimately her first appearance was all about drawing attention and reverence to herself. Plus, she has a canonical connection to disabilities!

Yukari Yakumo / Maribel Hearn, also from Touhou Project. Ditto, I will mostly quote the wiki. She is a mastermind, has incredible intellect, very abstract and private goals, a facade of whimsy and deceit while also actively enjoying making others fear her, and is generally considered as someone who calls the shots. She also has quite the flowery language. Furthermore, as Maribel, she is othered for her tastes / demeanor / abilities, and textually calls herself a celebrity who should be indulged.

Asuka Langley, from Evangelion. Mainly Soryu, as I've yet to watch the rebuild movies, but from what I hear, they don't change her personality that much. Anyhow. The very explicit need for attention and praise, and huge dependance on her self worth (and others' acknowledgement of her worth) is very npd to me. Granted, given the nature of Evangelion, going in depth about the characters' psyches is... a complex venture.

Lapis Lazuli, from Houseki no Kuni. Oh boy oh boy I LOVE HnK, it has such WONDERFUL themes of body horror and existentialism and peace. Anyway. Quote the wiki. He has a charming, leading personality, extremely smart, curious, and at times manipulative. They have been called surprisingly deceitful (could conceal secrets for centuries). So yeah, I love him.

crashing into your inbox late for the director's cut meme. okay so from burn away the goodness (which i'm so, SO obsessed with). it might be over 500 words.... but do you have thoughts you'd like to share on section V (you don't have to do the whole thing if you don't wanna). but. it sucker punched me SO BAD.

HIIII yes omg SO i think something i want to highlight here is the contrast between when jace initiates sex in section iv and when porter initiates sex in section v.

a BIG thing for jace in love's never meant much to me/burn away the goodness/the WIP in my docs thats just called "jace your sexuality and body politics are insane please fix them (working title)" is a loss of control. his magic comes from having control over himself and being able to project his will into the world, he used sex as a bargaining tool to keep a hold on most of the members of his old adventuring party, he hates being perceived as weak or able to be bossed around, he tries to keep a handle on his casual situationship with porter by implementing rules for himself, etc.

regarding scene iv and scene v: i wanted to do smth to highlight the contrast in how he reacts to being the one in charge vs. taking on a more passive role. after having his autonomy and control completely taken away from him via murder and getting brought back wrong, he starts out scene iv by not wanting to stay home and recover. and he's willing to resort to both violence and sex as persuasion techniques, since theyre both languages that porter speaks fluently. when he thinks he's the one running things (he definitely doesnt clock porter actively choosing to not take a swing at him), he's confident and full of desire.

contrast that with scene v, when porter tries to take him up to the bedroom, he's on the defensive. he doesn't know the exact extent to which porter has control over him, and that makes him nervous. porter's so focused on jace not being angry with him anymore, jace forgiving him, that he doesn't see how wired he is, primed for a surge (s/o to the unsleeping city and specifically pete the plug for my interest in wild magic sorcery as a concept), until he's literally getting flung against the ceiling.

what really sets jace off is porter pinning his wrists to the bed, effectively taking away his ability to use somatic components (again, loss of control - his magic is the only thing thats keeping their power dynamic even SLIGHTLY balanced and he's well aware of it). the whole thing reminds jace of porter strangling him to death, and that's what causes him to lash out. on top of that, realizing that he, a fully-fledged sorcerer, couldn't stop his own wild magic surge, is a HUGE blow to him. he's always prided himself on looking effortlessly put together and this has completely ruined that illusion, which pisses him off so much.

porter honestly has very little sense of just how angry, bitter, and lost jace is feeling in this. he wants things to go back to As They Were, just with jace being more obedient and acquiescing/willing to manipulate and kill a bunch of children for him, but that's not possible. on some level porter knows that he's fucked up badly and irrevocably, but he can't do anything to fix it, wouldn't even know where to start, so all he has is "sorry" and his attempts to make jace comfortable.

also sidenote i did fully intend for clonefucking to go in here but then i wrote a whole separate clonefucking fic. so instead there's jace trying to figure out the spell featured in one above and one below.

E (with 7 fics)... i wish i could say this was an sb influence but no. i was like this before. like. this is partially a byproduct back when i was writing only to get attention but also like. it's fun. i will admit. it's just fun for me.

that's exactly OP's point. an actual clone has to be younger than the original, on account of the original was past the embryonic stage when their DNA was extracted for implantation into a zygote in place of the zygote's original DNA. unless the clone and original started as the same zygote, either because they're identical twins or because there were fertility treatments involved and therefore they would have been identical twins had both embryos been implanted at the same time. in which case there's no way to tell which is the original, only which ended the intrauterine stage first.

an actual clone also has to have entirely unique experiences. though again identical twins are a subset of clones and therefore they'll have much life history in common simply by being in the same place with the same people for so much of it.

unless we're talking about a speculative fiction setting where duplicating a whole adult person results in a second whole adult person with the same life history until the moment of duplication. and/or a speculative fiction setting where it's possible to encounter an alternate universe version of oneself, who will therefore have different life history depending on whatever factors differentiate the two universes, but who will nonetheless be another whole adult person. people keep using the word "clone" for this sort of situation, when the words "duplicate" and "doppelganger" are right there and do not denote any connection to the actual process of cloning.

people also keep using the word "sentient" to mean something along the lines of "has human-level intelligence" or "has human-level wisdom", instead of using "sapient" to mean the thing it means (which is indeed "has wisdom") and using "sentient" to mean the thing it means, which is "has senses". we know fish are sentient because we know fish can process and react to sensory input; be pretty surprising to learn fish are sapient, though.

pretty sure people in the clonefucking meme are mostly not thinking of fucking actual clones. precisely because they have the wrong idea about what "clone" means.

There needs to be a word for the pop-cultural concept of "clone" that isn't "clone" because clone already means something. A clone is equivalent to an identical twin. If someone made a clone of you, you would have an identical twin that is significantly younger than you. You could even say that identical twins are naturally occurring clones.

Favorite game from the last 5 years?

Um...so, here’s the thing. I’m so not current on games XD; The most recent is probably Mass Effect 3, and conveniently, it’s my favorite.

Most nostalgic game?

Sid Meier’s Pirates. Was my first PC game. I’ve sunk (heh) a lot of hours into it. Yeah, the storyline is so-so. But BLACKBEARDS FLAMING HAIR AT SUNSET IS MY AESTHETIC. I would love to play it in VR if that ever became an option.

What game deserves a sequel?

Eh...I think most of the games I’ve liked are part of franchises? But I wouldn’t mind a DLC where we get to see what happens to the Milkyway after the Reaper War. Mostly I want to see Shepard get out of that dusty rebar hell and into a proper hospital. Maybe a reunion with their LI. Is that too much to ask!? (Or like a cut scene where the crew finds out what happened to Shepard depending on the ending you chose.)

Game that deserves a remaster?

The only thing keeping me from going back to Dragon Age Origins and romancing Zevran properly is the poor graphics and fighting mechanics. That and the endless dungeons. I wouldn’t mind a remaster of ME1 either. Or you know....some extra, queer romance options for the whole trilogy? Just sayin’

Uh, come on now. I think it should be obvious at this point ;)

RPGs.

Battle royale games. Waaaaay too stressful for me. At least when I lose against a boss 15 times in single player no one has to see my defeat.

The Citadel DLC when Shepard meets their clone for the first time. Shepard’s reactions the ENTIRE time. Oh my goodness. And the clone’s sass.

I can’t pick Shepard? Well, then. Jack Nought from Mass Effect has one of my favorite story arcs. And I’m still bitter about Brynolf in Skyrim not being a canon LI. Even though the Old Nord word for “spouse” literally means “personal shopkeeper.”

Favorite song from a game?

I love the entire Mass Effect trilogy soundtrack, but the song that starts playing when Shepard activated the crucible? That’s the one I’ll play by itself.

Favorite ship from a game?

I kind only have feelings for Bioware romances. Sooo...for canon romances: Zevran x Femwarden and Femshep x Kaidan from Mass Effect. (Honorable mention for Shrios.) And I love me some non-canon rarepairs. Soooo many.

Favorite voice actor from a game?

JENNIFER HALE OWNS MY SOUL.

Favorite boss?

Clone Shep. Having your own powers used against you!? They’re the only one beside Shepard (depending on class) and Tela Vasir that can biotically charge. (Banshee don’t count.)

First console?

Never had one. My first gaming PC was as 2005 Dell desktop with Windows XP.

Current console or consoles?

I have two laptops. One is....a 2010 Acer with native Windows 7 (and now Windows 10 *sobs*) I use it to create new OCs without having to overwrite my current playthrough.

And I do my actual gaming on a 2018 Acer Nitro. It niiiice. Even if it has Windows 10.

Console you want?

I’m pretty content with my new laptop. But I wouldn’t mind having some variety of PlayStation so I can play Kingdom Hearts.

Place from a game that you’d like to visit?

The Citadel.

Thessia before the Reaper Invasion. The amount of eezo in the atmosphere won’t give me tumors, right? Riiiight?

Ridiculous crossover that would never happen but would be super fun?

The miscreants of Legends of Tomorrow time travel to 2186 and help Shepard fight the war. Actually, with the way they write that show, this crossover idea isn’t *that* implausible. 

Book what would make a good game?

Erm...I know Cassandra Clare is problematic, but I would *love* a video game based on the Mortal Instruments. Lots of action, and romance fit for an RPG. But like. I’d want it to be based in that *world*, not based on the books themselves. So I can romance whomever the fuck I want.

Show/Movie that would make a good game?

Uh.....Atomic Blonde? Maybe Ocean’s 8? I don’t watch enough shows or movies XD; 

Games you want to play?

Well, now that I have a laptop that *can* play Andromeda, that one for sure. And I’m super interested in Life Is Strange, and it’s mostly @commander-hot-pants‘s fault. I should also uh...play that Assassins Creed game I have on Steam. Unity, I think? It’s the French Revolution one.

Have you gotten a 100% completion in a game?

If I like the game, yeah. The only one that I can think of that I didn’t was Fall Out New Vegas. Kinda drove myself into a ditch with that one. 

Have you cried over a game?

Cry? No. But Thane’s death scene makes me tear up every time. And the first time I played the Horizon mission? I felt like someone had broken up with ME. That was when I knew I was hooked. I was grieving for a week after finishing the trilogy for the first time. But that may be because I finished right around Trump being elected. Gross.
